I grew up eating Penny’s and it’s just the same. Still good 👍🏽

Diner Review №4

Food ok, not bad, not great. Went mid afternoon and not crowded. Bought noodle- barbacue pork dish. Somewhat bland. Dont think meat was barbacued. Service ok.

Diner Review №5

Great service and delicious food

Diner Review №8

Do not order delivery from them. I ordered from their website and never received the food. The person who took my order was someone who told me their name was “Ann”. I told her my food was never delivered, even though I ordered from their website. She told me I had to contact Grubhub since they were the third party used for delivery. How is that my problem? Anyways, she’s clearly wasting my time bc she’s too lazy to help the customer. I call Grubhub and tell them what happened. Their rep told me that they will contact their store to tell them I want the order replaced or if I want a refund. I tell her yes, I’d love the food but I would love it now than later. She puts me on hold and tells me that she spoke to the store and told them to remake and redeliver my order. Afterwards, I call Penny’s to make sure they get the order and she told me that they couldn’t make the order until GrubHub send it to them. That makes no sense at all when I originally placed the order through PENNY’S website. I tell her at this point I need to speak with the manager. She puts me on hold for 10 minutes then hangs up. I call GrubHub and tell them I need a refund now. The GrubHub rep called Penny’s and then told me that after telling them they needed to refund me that they get hung up, too. I call Penny’s and “Ann” said they never did that. Penny’s has disgraceful and dishonest people working for them to take orders and dealing with customers. This was the worst food delivery experience I had to deal with. Then I finally got a call from Penny’s saying they have refunded my money back to my credit card, but don’t know how long it will take to process. Today my bank notified me that they never posted a refund. They only took the money out of my account. I can upload my call logs and bank details, if necessary. This location is such a joke and should not be supported.

Everyone knows Penny's has great dishes.

But let me tell you, their Thai Iced Coffee is the very best in the area I've had. Fresh, foamy, thick and creamy. Don't know why it took me so long to give it a go. Can't wait to go get another!

Found this place looking for soup on a Sunday. Delicious

Diner Review №17

Diner Review №18

Hands down the best tom kar soup I've ever had. The red curry was delicious with just the right amount of spice. It felt like someone's grandma was in there cooking. The service was amazing the staff was attentive all at a great price.

Diner Review №33

I will never come back here. I was very disappointed with the food I ordered today. I got a small fried rice with added roasted pork for $13. Additionally, I ordered Pad Thai, which cost $15 without any protein. Adding chicken or tofu cost an extra $2, while beef and shrimp were an additional $3. The Pad Thai didn't taste traditional; it had too much soy sauce and included red cabbage, which I've never seen in Pad Thai before.

Diner Review №34

I love coming here when I get chance to be in Oak Park. The food is great, portion size is good, and the service and store cleanliness is top notch.

Diner Review №37

Diner Review №38

Penny's has always been my favorite. Never disappointed when we go. Tried a new dish, Thai Ravioli, it was delicious. Won ton noodle soup another favorite as well as the Beef Pad se eu.

Diner Review №39

I still love Penny's after all these years going there.... one of my favorite items is the TomYum soup... but a little disappointed that the mushrooms used in the soup seem to come from a can now instead of the fresh ones they used to use. Stir fry is excellent though!

Diner Review №40

Absolutely amazing crab Rangoon!!! And love their pad see ew with beef!

Diner Review №41

Really loved this place but there was some confusion with the 2 different restaurants under the same name and the manager was super rude my confusion. I didn't want him to make the food if the kitchen was closed and he was insulted by me telling him it was fine? I almost only leave 5 star reviews but this was super disappointing

Diner Review №42

Delicious food and outstanding service. Thank you!

Diner Review №43

If you're in search of comfort food that doesn't compromise on quality, Penny’s Noodle Shop is the place to be. A standout on their menu is the chicken soup, a heartwarming bowl of culinary perfection. The soup is generously filled with tender chunks of chicken, and the freshness of the veggies is evident in every spoonful. The portions are satisfyingly large, ensuring that you won't leave hungry.

The noodles in the soup deserve a special mention. Perfectly cooked, they absorb the rich flavors of the broth while retaining their own unique texture. It’s clear that the ingredients are top-notch and that great care goes into crafting each bowl.

In a world where fast food often trumps quality, Penny’s Noodle Shop stands out as a beacon for well-prepared, healthy, and downright delicious fare. Highly recommended for anyone looking to satiate their soul as well as their stomach.

Diner Review №49

I used to live in Oak Park for 5 years and this was our go-to place. Amazing food and great service. The noodle soups are the best soup in OP, hands down! I've tried both the beef and chicken and equally great. Everything I'm back in the area, this is a must-go!!!

Diner Review №50

Dined at Penny's during a non busy time (noon on a weekend). I ordered pad see ew, chicken satay, and spring rolls. The spring rolls were good, and the chicken satay was bland, but moreover, I was quite disappointed with the pad see ew dish. I frequent many Thai restaurants and order the same dishes, and Penny's dish was quite a surprise. The pad see ew was covered in a dark maple syrup sauce; by far the most unsavory and unappetizing dish I've ever tasted. I did ask the hostess if maple syrup was commonly used on this dish, and she said it was probably because I requested not to include the egg. Unfortunately, I will not be going back.

Their food tastes so bad and no service at all. But asking for tips. Never comer back.

Diner Review №55

First time order from this restaurant.
We order 8 phos. Nothing topping meat with meals.
Taste is so bad .$16 for one noodle.

Diner Review №56

I wish we had a penny”s noodle shop on the south side.

Diner Review №57

Not authentic pad thai missing the tamarind flavor… very heavy on soy sauce. Dry chicken, I think they need to adjust their recipes

Diner Review №58

Diner Review №59

flavors are still good.. but $70+ for two entrees and two apps. chicken and pork were dry and they dont use bbq pork anymore. also, canned mushrooms bleh

Diner Review №60

Still very good food but prices had gone a little too high for comfort.

Diner Review №61

Diner Review №62

Although the food is good and service more than adequate, I feel that the pricing is quite high. It’s high for what you get and the quality is definitely not worth it. The food itself is decent but it should be cheaper. And that is why I don’t come often.

Diner Review №63

Great local Thai restaurant

Diner Review №64

Food is delicious!

Diner Review №65

Nice environment, friendly staff. Went with my mother and loved the food and tea.

Diner Review №66

I got home a few minutes ago and am currently enjoying my Egg Noodles with Barbecued Pork, so incredibly YUMMY!!!
I was craving noodles and it hit the spot, I added chili sauce to it and it kicked it up several notches. So good! I also picked up an order of Japanese Gyoza which never disappoint. So worth driving up from Chicago.
I AM IN NOODLE HEAVEN!!!

Diner Review №69

Great food and service at a reasonable price!

Diner Review №70

Game went from 2p start to the right at 4p. Got to the Ivy Parking lot at 2:30p and walked across the street to Penny’s Noodle Shop to wait out the heavy downpour. It’s right under the L train. Ordered some ramen because it’s ramen weather and green Thai beef curry since I haven’t had some in awhile. Hopefully this weather lets up by 6p. What turned out to be a day game looks to be a night game. First one at Wrigley.

To my stepdad Robert VOELKER, wish you were here but ty for having the big guy stop the rains.

Diner Review №71

They raised their prices more than other Thai places nearby $18 for Singapore noodles?? And it's not authentic at all I honestly have had better at other places also the owner is not very nice to delivery people and he should be thanks to them he gets business I will definitely go elsewhere next time

Diner Review №72

Penny’s is well worth a stop. Food we’ve ordered is delicious and the service is courteous. This restaurant should be your regular go-to for healthy dining. Well priced, very generous portions, and a lovely place to eat. Large groups, families too. Highly recommended. Carry-out is excellent and quick. Have made many much needed positive improvements recently, so give it a visit.

Love coming here. GREAT STAFF, GREAT FOOD! Always treated well and the food is delicious. Highly recommend the pad thai, pineapple fried rice, hot pepper noodles, edamame and crab ragoon.

Diner Review №83

Great service good food

Diner Review №84

They have the best pho around! I won't go any where else for it! Servers are super nice and friendly and the atmosphere is just amazing!

Diner Review №85

My goodness. How do you make pad thai with mushy noodles, no fish sauce, no limes, no egg and no salt. Thankfully (sarcasm), their hot sauce on the side is vinegar and pickled peppers; the kind you get from Subway. Yall are crazy for charging $20. I also got some gritty bits, kind of like when you don't wash the inside of a green onion. Tom kha kai wasn’t too bad though.

Diner Review №86

Diner Review №87

My favorite Thai Spot in OP!

Diner Review №88

Diner Review №89

One of my favorite Noodle places. Their Tum Yum soup is fire! Entrees are always delicious.

Diner Review №90

Family friendly place. We had the kids menu fried rice for the kids and it was very good.

Diner Review №91

Enjoyed my soup and noodle dish very much. Ordered very spicy, and ended up at least somewhat spicy, which is normal for most Thai places around here.

Diner Review №92

It's a trendy offering of slightly americanized Thai, Vietnamese and Japanese cuisine.

Diner Review №93

Liked the food. Couldn't get it last time. Waitress wouldn't let sample sauces. Was looking for a sweet non terriakyi. Wouldn't allow even tho they did awhile back. Just forgot which one. No customer service skills. Even the manager said they didn't do that. But they did. Those 2 wouldn't. My business & anyone/everyone I know I'd say go elsewhere!!!

I've been eating at Penny's for years. The Tom Yum soup isn't as good as it use too. It's been watered down alot, and less shrimp.

Diner Review №119

It was the worst place ever. Like the Broth just taste like colored water and they charge 3.50 for the meat and it wasn’t even good. came out to $50 for to people and it wasn’t even worth it!

Diner Review №120

Great food. My fave is shrimp fried rice and crab ragoon

Diner Review №121

Diner Review №122

Diner Review №123

Ordered for delivery and food got here on time via grub hub…everything was mediocre at best. Super greasy egg rolls (which are mainly filled noodles by the way…where’s the meat and veggies??). We also had the red curry with beef, Shrimp and tomato noodle soup, crab rangoons and lard nar. Everything had a slightly funky flavor and was just so bland. 1.5 stars.

Diner Review №124

Diner Review №128

Diner Review №129

Awesome food, i like this place.

Diner Review №130

Great noodle soups!

Diner Review №131

The service was good but this place reminds me of a Chipotle restaurant. In other words they are trying to create a "clean" version of asian food which I object to. We ordered the Pad Tai chicken for $12.99 and they charged $2 extra for the chicken. The noodles were not seasoned well and overcooked with cilantro. The second dish was the roasted pork. It was very dry with undercooked rice. It came with a small salad which was the most delightful of the $55 bill. The next dish was the satay chicken which was not fresh. The peanut butter sauce was creamy, but it didn't help the chicken taste any better. We ordered the vietnamese rolls which were tasty, but didn't have any shrimp in them, but they were good. Lastly the pot stickers were okay, but not work the $55 bill. Overall I could tell this food was reheated and not cooked fresh. I will not return. If you want to test it, order only one dish because the price of an entire meal is not worth it. Never again!!!

One of the best Tom Kha Kai, happy they are close to my house! Will come back! Thank you!

Diner Review №135

The Pad Thai is still very good after all these years.

Diner Review №136

I love Penny's.

Diner Review №137

Their beef soup is just pho. Taste same as pho. Again same noodle. Why bother to call it beef soup noodle and cost 13$ for this cheap taste!!!

Diner Review №138

Awesome like always friendly people

Diner Review №139

Wow! Lives up to the reputation. First visit but sure not to be the last. The chicken pad Thai was excellent, with grilled chicken flavor. The hot spicy noodles they recommended were also amazing and the gyoza we're delicious as well. Dang good and real quick for takeout.

Diner Review №140

Diner Review №141

The service is great! I went here on a Thursday night about 45 minutes before the kitchen closed. They didn't rush us at all. I ordered a veggie noodle soup. It was good, but I feel it needed more veggie flavor. I really miss the local Vietnamese pho restaurant. I was spoiled by their food. Nonetheless I ate all my bowl because it was ok, and I was hungry. I will definitely come back.

Diner Review №142

Recognizing Penny's Noodle for Outstanding Customer Service. Had a problem with order after opening at home. Called back to restaurant to explain situation, a momentary hold to confirm order #, took my information to replace order immediately or at a later time.

Diner Review №152

If I could give these place 0 stars I would. Terrible service.

Diner Review №153

ABSOLUTELY. NEVER. GOING. BACK. I tried ordering food, however, the owner kept saying “Sir, this is a Wendy’s”. Like seriously? I tried then ordering a couple of double stacks and the man was confused. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!

Diner Review №154

Guy was rude. My order was wrong and he responded unprofessionally. I will never come here again

Diner Review №155

The manager here is a total A.H.! He took our order, gave us the wrong food and then was in straight in denial. He was arguing back and forth with us instead of staying calm and try to resolve the problem, he was very problematic and then hung up the phone on us.

Diner Review №156

Horrible place & staff

Diner Review №157

If you want to waste your time speaking with inept staff this is the place for you. Food is soggy, such a shame I had high hopes. You’ve been warned.

Diner Review №158

Diner Review №178

Diner Review №179

Diner Review №180

Diner Review №181

Bland food, pretty disappointed. The reviews for this place were great so I expected to be delighted.
The taste was off completely. The pad Thai tasted like they used a seasoning packet from the grocery store and the pho was sad, just not flavor in the broth or the beef.

I have a credit for something they forgot to put in my bag when I picked it up and I don’t know if I’d disappoint my pallet like that again

Diner Review №182

Always on time. Consistently good food. Thank you for being open!

Diner Review №183

Diner Review №184

Diner Review №185

Loved it! Try the pad thai.

Diner Review №186

Food was not good

Diner Review №187

Best Thai in Oak Park!!

Diner Review №188

I am not quick to review... I've been coming to Penny's for years now and it is reliably my top choice for Thai in the entire area. I admit it's a bit pricey for a weekly feast, but they're great for a once a month take out splurge... Especially if you intend on splitting your order across 2 or more meals. Their portions aren't HUGE but it is densely packed and SO rich and flavorful.

Diner Review №189

Diner Review №190

Delicious pad thai and fried rice

Diner Review №191

Good food . Fast delivery

Diner Review №192

Loved their Singapore noodles and Pad Thai

Diner Review №193

🤷🏾‍♂️

Diner Review №194

This is definitely one of Oak Parks hidden gems. Fresh, consistently prepared, delicious food . We are loyal customers and missed them when they were temporarily closed due to COVID. Penny's Noodle is a five star recommendation.

Diner Review №195

The food is sickening. Taste really bad.Noodles are over cooked. I’d rather starve than to eat here.

Diner Review №196

Heard about this place, everyone raved about it ..kept an open mind and finally gave it a try.

I'm not sure where the hype comes from. Order chicken Pad Thai - at 1st glance is the darkest pad thai I've ever seen the chicken ( looked like beef), tad greasy and its bland.

The 🔥 sauce gave it some flavor. 🙌 the sauces.

Diner Review №197

I just went for the first time in a while. I was really happy to see how they were handling pick ups during Covid. They have a separate entrance and exit and the cashier was wearing a mask and behind plexiglass. I usually order either one of their ramen dishes or a fried rice (the tofu is particularly good). Their crispy spring rolls are the best, but only come two to an order so plan accordingly.
