I've done hibachi at a lot of places. Hands down this was the best food and service ever!!! I'm coming in to edit because I did light the first time. We went at 630 on Vale tines Day. The place was jammed packed with people in line to pick up to go orders and people in line for the restaurant side a d then thr hibachi side. Then, people without reservations trying to do walk in with it already being packed WALL TO WALL !!! I will say this, they should've had someone by the door directing people on where to go. 🤣 But, I've been to high end steakhouses and restaurants and they would've sank with the crowd last night. So, we got seated at the hibachi and within 2 min they took our drink order. Drinks came out in less than 5 min. Then our food order was took, then out came the salads, then the soups. YES it was a little fast paced- due to they were booked solid with reservations. But, none the less the service was impeccable, the food is now my addiction, the prices are great and at the end of our meal the woman came out with all containers and bags for anything you had left over. I grew up in melose park so I'd go with my parents when I was little. I literally forgot about this hidden gem- now I'll never forget about it. I'm currently trying about 25 min away but I would travel here just for take out. ITS THAT GOOD ! Also, people are not aware that they do have the hibachi, they have sushi and they have Thai food. I will be going back here monthly going back and forth between the hibachi and the restaurant. Oh !!! They also have steaks so it's not your "typical" Cantonese or Chinese restaurant. And it is very clean inside. I just can not say enough about this place 🥰🥰🥰

It's one of the best egg drop soups I've had .. went in for their lunch specials. I couldn't believe it. I ordered so much. Food was less than $60. Three entrees at the lunch. Special price and three appetizers... Look forward to going there again

It was my first time at a hibachi restaurant, and I was blown away by the experience. The atmosphere was lively and vibrant, filled with the sounds of sizzling grills and laughter. The chef was incredibly entertaining, expertly flipping food, creating amazing flame tricks, and engaging with diners throughout the meal.

The highlight of the night was not just the performance but also the food—the flavors were out of this world! Each dish was a delightful masterpiece, cooked to perfection right in front of us.

The combination of fresh ingredients and skillful preparation made for a truly unforgettable meal.

After such an amazing experience, I made a promise to myself that I would return soon to partake in these delicious festivities again.

I did just that on December 22, and once again, it did not disappoint. The food was just as mouthwatering as I remembered, and the service was impeccable; the staff was attentive without being intrusive.

The restaurant was spotless, which added to the overall positive dining experience. Everything seemed to run like a well-oiled machine, and I couldn't help but appreciate the efficiency with which the entire operation was handled. I left feeling satisfied and eager for my next visit!

One word: AMAZING!!!! I’m always reluctant to try new hibachi spots because we are loyal to another spot that will remain unnamed LOL. However, after today I am a believer!!! Johnny made the best meal ever for our birthday dinner !!! And was also entertaining!! New Star does not disappoint !! If you’re hesitant don’t be!! Go!! The food is so delicious from start to finish!!! You also get a lot of food for your dollar!! I’m impressed and so happy we came here!! I can’t wait to come back with more people!!

I got the happy couple meal & a pina colada which more than satisfied me & my partner for less than $125. We had enough left over for 2 more meals! It came with shrimp steak chicken fried rice noodles vegetables soup AND salad.

The chefs show was also super entertaining. I’ll be going back but I’ll be sure to go earlier.

I only got videos unfortunately so the picture quality sucks but this dinner was amazing.

Food is great, but it’s really really busy on Sundays, even with a reservation. We’ve been here for an hour and the waitress just took our order. Coming Monday-Friday is much better, especially if you’re hungry 🤣🤣

This was the first time I was here. I was told by several friends that the place was fantastic. I was not disappointed the place is extremely good.

My family eats here weekly. Food is top-notch and they are soooo good with kids. Even providing them with a toy before dinner. The service is outstanding. I think that’s truly what sets them apart is the service and the flavor. Patient and with a smile. We recommend!

The food is good. But the customer service is TERRIBLE. Very small space. Long wait times. Standing room waiting. . The wait time is always an hour. And no same day reservations. . They are always packed NOT BECAUSE THE FOOD IS SUPERB.. but because they're the ONLY Hibachi restaurant within a 10mi radius.

I saved a reservation for 2 o’clock and came 10 minutes early and still waited till 2:30 and had to leave because they claimed the table was still being cleaned. Even though I reserved a spot. If you plan on going just go in a hour before you’re hungry because there’s no point in making a reservation days before.

Filthy, from the tables to the silverware, especially by the men’s restroom, you can see the filth going all the way into the kitchen, and walked out when I went to the restroom and an employee used the urinal and walked right out and straight back into the kitchen without washing his hands, if I can give a -5 star I would, place needs to be inspected the right way instead of paying off the inspector

Going there since 1982... Always great food. Their BBQ ribs , well everything is amazing... Try their tropical drinks too.. yummy

The restaurant has a great atmosphere with plenty of seating options, which I really appreciated. The service started off strong, but unfortunately, our server seemed to forget about us at some point, which was a bit disappointing.

As for the food, I found it to be a bit too greasy for my taste. I ordered the shrimp lo mein, and it didn’t really hit the mark—maybe some of the other dishes would’ve been better. On the bright side, the portions are very generous, so you can definitely take leftovers home, which is a nice bonus.

Overall, it’s not a bad spot, but I’d probably try something different if I came back. 🙌

Nothing special just regular Chinese food

The service was amazing, and the food blew me away. The spices and sauces gave everything such a unique flavor—it really made the dishes stand out. My teriyaki steak was cooked perfectly, and the fried rice and Lo Mein were absolutely incredible. I even noticed the noodle choice for the Lo Mein, and it was spot on. The ice cream was so good—super creamy, not icy at all, and had real fruit chunks in it. Honestly, I have nothing to complain about here. You won’t regret checking this place out—it’s definitely going to be a favorite for us!

Great gluten free Chinese food and extensive menu! I can’t remember the last time I was able to have orange chicken since being gluten free, but this option tasted just as I remembered it to be.

Unfortunately a horrible experience with the reception staff that ruined the entire dining experience. Not only did the restaurant keep taking people in without a reservation ahead of our reservation time but also the two ladies at the reception had a terrible attitude and were not able to handle how busy the restaurant was. I will definitely will not be coming back.

Our FAVORITE Hibachi ever. My family has enjoyed New Star for 20+ years first with their Chinese food ( so good ) and now for their Hibachi. It has become a celebration tradition and it has never disappointed. We have never gotten bad service,or bad food or a bad drink. And the staff is always so nice and accommodating to the best of their ability. We may just have good luck going there to never have had a bad experience but we are loyal. We drive 40 min to visit them, and nothing else has compared in our opinion.

We went for my mom's birthday and it was quite a visit. The food was amazing and who doesn't love some up cllose and person entertainment of tricks with the food being prepared. Will definitely love to go back. The food was nothing like anything I have ever tasted before. Everything was fresh and authentic. New Star is definitely my new dine in spot.

I have known this since the mid 80s. Food is still great. I think it's been around for 70 years. It's been one of my favorite restaurants for a long time.

I made reservations for hibachi to celebrate New Year’s Eve with my mom and kids. They said it would be 20 minutes which is fine but then we waited an hour, and finally just asked to sit at a regular table. They were extremely disorganized and somewhat unprofessional. It can be disappointing when you tell your kids about something special and it doesn’t happen. They lack customer service- I wouldn’t go back.

Food was great but i spent almost $200 for my food then they just rush you to leave, that was not cool at all....

Too much butter garlic is used for me at the Habachi side on everything ordered. I don't like that they now charge 18% on all bills, although it was just me and my husband, not a group, not to mention you would tip another 20% 4 your service. The service was great, I just didn't care 4 the extra butter garlic on all the food cooked and the new extra charge.

The wait was long and once we where sitting no one took away the dirty dishes and they gave me four shrimp and the server was missing so unprofessional

Hibachi is awesome, but the service is terrible. Their reservation system is completely unreliable. Last 2 times I have come, there were issues. The less recent time was in the summer and we didn’t sit for over an hour past our reservation. They don’t say sorry or even offer to buy a drink or an appetizer. I thought it was just a bad night but again tried going tonight with a 6pm reservation and knew we were in trouble when we walked in and you could barely even fit into the place. There was someone yelling at the staff because his 5pm reservation was not seated (it was 6pm). When I checked in they didn’t say anything except we need to wait for a table to clear. After 30 minutes I checked in again and was told that some people were waiting for 90 minutes and that there was no estimate for when we would sit. We left and will probably never go back. It’s a shame because the food is really good but they clearly don’t give a crap about their customers and their reservation system. Get it together.

I was really excited to visit this restaurant, especially after making a reservation, but unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to expectations. The place was overly packed, and despite having a reservation, we had to wait longer than expected. To make matters worse, even though we were seated first, we were served last, which was frustrating. The overall customer service was disappointing — the staff seemed overwhelmed and not very attentive. I hope they can improve their organization and service, as the food had potential, but the experience left much to be desired

Yesterday it was my daughter 17th birthday we went here to have dinner. They told us it was a hour and 30 minutes wait. She wanted to wait it tured out to be a 3 hour wait but black people notice they were catering to Caucasian people. Telling us they made reservations a week ago. After the 3rd time a couple of us intervene and said hey whats going on here, the people heard us. That Caucasian family told them they were wrong and they need to take care of the people who they have in front of them.

II ordered food for delivery tonight. I don't think the server MONSE M completely understood my order. I explicitly asked what vegetables were in Chicken Fried Rice and Kung Pao Chicken. I am allergic to mushrooms and she told me NO mushrooms in the Kung Pao Chicken. When the order was delivered, not only were there mushrooms in the Kung Pao Chicken, but the container was not even full!. I usually have 3 meals out of one order. So now I'm out $14 cause I had to toss out the dish. Egg rolls were half burnt. I don't know what is going on, but now I have to look for another place, which is sad, because I thought we found our place. The last order we placed was not up to par, but we didn't review it then. Gave them another try. Sad. I work hard for my money and I don't appreciate my order not being accurate, nor anywhere on their website to send an email to try and resolve my complaint.

At first the person who took our orders didn't give us a good service. We had told her it was our first time, we asked nicely if she can please explain to us how it works. Today is my birthday and I have had a day. After researching restaurants I found out today the one I wanted to go to was closed so I went with my second choice which is new Star..

These people on have blown me away….. if I could give them 100/10 I would.. I made a reservation and we walked right in to service right when we walk in they give my kids toys!! A car and a squishy toy and they loved it and was entertained all dinner.. the food selection and options are massive nothing the reviews prepared me for..

The service was quick and fast.. and I mean fast our reservation was at 5 we ordered appetizers and drinks then food and we were honestly done by 5:30 the food was soooo fast AND FRESH HOT!! The portions are very large and I asked our waiter if the fried rice is enough for me and my son to share but honesty all 4 of us were eating and was still able to take food home.. which our server helped us pack up and she was very kind.. they even brought me ice cream after hearing it was my birthday… that’s not even the best part

My daughter left her watch at the window or our table.. after we got home she noticed she didn’t have it on and we called and the lady on the phone was instantly like “ oh your daughters watch is right here, we got it” my daughter is 8 she has no lock on her Apple Watch and anyone could have taken it.

Our favorite hibachi restaurant by far. We regularly go here for birthdays. Always a great show. Fantastic price for how much food you get. Each hibachi dish comes with salad, soup, noodles, fried rice, fried veggies with mushrooms, plus the main meat you pick. Always a great show with egg tossing, fire and more. Highly recommend.

The hibachi food is always great every time my boyfriend and I come! I feel like the portions have gotten a bit smaller but the food is still good. Chinese food is also good. I personally didn’t like the sushi here. My only complaint is the service sometimes.

They have a really good hibachi .Also plenty of room, kid-friendly, handicap friendly, sushi and booths at the front that you can see on North avenue. Besides fantastic carry out for to go orders. The service is fantastic the owners are great I can't say enough go and enjoy.

Very good. The only complaints we had were fat left on the steaks. We did see it on there prior to being cooked in front of us. But sadly, it was served to us still attached. Also the chicken was over cooked. Not sure if it’s because the children was cut too thick and the chef thought it needed to be cooked longer, or if that is just the norm there.

I guess we will find out on our next visit.

I LOVE Japanese Hibachi! It's my absolute favorite food!

So, as a treat, my husband and I went to New Star to celebrate our 17th wedding anniversary. We went on a Monday night, and it was packed...for good reason!

We ordered Hibachi. The food was delicious - freshly prepared with precision. The chef was gregarious and put on a great show!

The entire staff was friendly and eager to please...their professionalism showed...from the way we were first greeted, throughout the meal when they came by to make sure we didn't need anything, to the end, when we were warmly welcomed to come again.

The restaurant is very clean. The chairs could be a bit more comfortable. And, the number of people at the Hibachi table could have been smaller.

However, I can state unequivocally that New Star has the BEST hibachi I've had since moving to Chicago 19 years ago.

I made reservations and they confirmed them via text, email, and called me multiple times the day of the reservations. We were there 15 minutes early so I expected to be seated promptly at our reserved time, we were not. We were seated 30 minutes after, and the host was rude about. A complete disregard for our time and no apology or even recognition of the infringing on our time. It was not crowded (and even if it was) so the fact that we were made to wait 30 minutes was ridiculous. The prices increased (well over $100 for my 3) but the service decreased. No timely removal of plates, it was Hibachi and we had a large party, it was bowls and plates everywhere with no room on the table. I had to ask multiple times for them to collect the bowls from the table, again ridiculous. Two different chefs because we had a large party, but my daughter and a couple others that ended up on the other side didn't get as much food, was looked over multiple times as their chef tended to the other guests on that side of the table. I've been to this restaurant numerous times and continued to patronize for the quality of the food, prices and service. All of that we diminished for me yesterday and I'm pretty certain I won't return, unfortunate.

Food was so good. Amy and Crystal were the best servers ever! I had such a great time here. Love it!

Pretty good overall, but we had a pretty big party so the server kept forgetting our sides, drinks, even kids drinks etc. Maybe more servers for a big party, but still ok service and still a nice place. Food was alright but my steak was super tough, I asked for medium. That's all.

This is that old school American style Chinese food that tasted bomb and delivered!! Too many Chinese food places under deliver, source poor ingredients, and have bad cooking techniques. You won’t find any of that here. Worth the trip!

LOVE their Mongolian beef, shrimp fried rice and egg rolls! Parking is sometimes an issue but that's b/c they're always busy b/c they have such good food and staff is always very friendly! :)

Our take out order was completely messed up. My salmon lunch special was missing the rice… coworker ordered a noodle dish and got some sort of rice dish instead… and they put in food we didn’t even order. If you have a food allergy, definitely stay away from this place since there is no telling what you might get. We are too scared to order from here again.

We made a reservation for 7:30pm, but still waited an hour to be seated. Food was good, too many people for a small hibachi area.

Mediocre bland food, relatively poor service. Cold egg rolls, greasy fried rice, CHEAP MEAT Chinese joint. last time I was there our food taste like Dishwater. When I made a few special request like extra crispy egg rolls, our waiter didn’t even even acknowledge it and brought them out cold. I’m sure you can find better Chinese and sushi at more affordable place too.

Food is great for starters. I really dont appreciate the way the handled my kids. Around 7:15pm 9/11, the OWNER JINNY ZHAO proceeded to shush my kids even though they were not loud. After that she proceeded to tell them they had to be good in order to get a toy. She then played keep away with my darker toned daughter saying, “you have to say thank you” in a very rude tone. I approached her about my displeasures and she just brushed it off saying "sure" I have grandkids etc.. my kids love the place but her not so much. JINNY ZHAO LEFT us with a very distasteful experience. Not to mention our cook brought Tupperware as soon as he finished cooking. Shameful experience

Visited numerous times for family birthday celebrations- food is always good HOWEVER during our last visit on 9/11/24 we had a very unpleasant encounter with what I'm assuming is a host/staff. When time came to get seated everyone was excited, said staff (older woman) proceeded to get toys for the little children (2) on the family (which they have done before) except this time before she handed it over she proceeded to shhh my 3 and 4 year old (which weren’t even loud) leaving them confused and then pretended to hand over the toys to then stop and ask them to say please/thank before giving it to them. When my partner expressed his dislike of the situation, the staff just brushed it off as if it was not an issue. Very unfortunate encounter and even more disappointed at the fact that when the staff was made aware of that we were uncomfortable about how she handled our children she thought it was no big deal.

Everything about this restaurant screams quality. The staff, location and service was top notch. The food was great, highly recommend
