Authentic Thai
As a Thai, this is our go-to place for delicious green papaya salad and some authentic dishes. The shop is small with a few seats but quiet and cozy. Really nice place to unwind as there's not many who actually dine in. The place is run by two people, the chef lady in the kitchen and the gentleman as the cashier and server. It looks to be a popular take-out place so expect extra wait time for dine-in ordered food.
They have a "secret" Thai language menu which has more authentic dishes not typically offered in your neighborhood Thai restaurants. It's one thing to offer authentic dishes and another to make it taste delicious for Thais. Even though I cook Thai food at home, this place will have my money because they can cook certain dishes better than me!

Trash owner.
Selling the noodle dish for$14 for this little 2 pieces of who knows what.
I asked if this is everything then he rudely reply “I ran out of everything, this is all we got so that’s all you’ll get”
Maybe they should consider go do something else in life.
Bad month owner. Both of them.
This place is a hidden GEM 💎 and should have way better ratings on Google (i’m starting to think it’s all rigged). The food is fantastic and authentic thai food, and if you don’t believe me, my partner spent time in thailand and said the same. The Tom Yum soup is so flavorful i find myself craving it and the Pad See Ew is delicious - I can’t wait to come back and try more things because luckily it’s local to me. The service is also worth noting - very friendly and warm, it truly feels like you’re in someone’s kitchen getting a home cooked thai meal. Can’t reccomend this place enough and i’ll keep coming back.
The Pad See Ew (Thai spicy) was delicious and well balanced. The service was quick and helpful. There aren't many seats, but well worth a stop.

Fee seating available. Food was okay but you can definitely find better Asian food around this place. Price was proper
The pad Thai was not good. Almost no flavor. I used to live in Thailand and this was probably one of the worst Thai dishes I’ve had. Skip this place.
Tom Yum actually not a Tom Yum. Very sour, without lemongrass and other important ingredients. NOT recommended unfortunately
I went here with 2 friends and we ordered fried rice, spicy papaya salad or somtum, spicy grilled ribeye, and fried tuna in spicy thai chilly paste. All of the food tasted just right! And the portions are amazing! The owners were nice and friendly, too!
It’s a healing for thai people who got homesick!
Can’t wait to go back there again and order more variety of their menus !
I placed an order on DoorDash for pick up on Tuesday and when I got there they were closed. The hours posted outside said they were open until 9pm on Tuesday and I was there at 7:30pm. I tried calling and their message box was full. Truly poor service and I’m unable to get a refund:(
I come for the mango sticky rice often its very good although as of lately, I get mostly mango and not enough rice. kind of frustrating considering it’s $13 but it is very good
I had a large to-go order and Tom Yum was absolutely delicious! Customer service was phenomenal
The best Thai food I tried in Chicago!!! Tom yum soup soo yummy
Got their boat noodles. Delicious, and very friendly owner!
Please run away from the place.

Hidden gem!!! The soups were so fresh - get the tom yum soup and/or pho bo, and the som tum papaya salad!! Am very impressed with the quality and the prices, would literally every come everyday if I could. Support small businesses! ◡̈
Unbelievable Thai food, very authentic. Tom yum soup with seafood did not disappoint. All the food was hot and fresh, extra crispy egg rolls & the carrot salad was the perfect fresh, crunchy side to the rich soup. Absolutely delicious!!
I really don't want to write this review as this is a tiny family joint. However, the tom yum noodle soup we were served was tragically bad. It was a murky grey with some sad fish cakes and a scattering of ground meat. It was neither salty, sweet, sour or spicy. I literally don't know how it is the same dish as the rich red soup I see in other images and the namesake of the restaurant.
The somtum was fine and the larb was a pretty sad take as well with bland ground meat in a one-dimensional dressing. It has nothing on Aroy Thai's version. I see no reason to frequent this place with so many great Thai restaurants in Chicago.
Very good food
This is a very cozy, casual and small family owned thai restaurant that I like to visit when I want a quiet thai meal.
Honestly the homemade soups 🍲 are a favorite of mine and I love their thai iced teas and iced coffees.
Egg rolls and chicken satay is always a self bet and there are many other appealing appetizers to choose from.
Most people pick the soup because it's always so hearty and even though the owners are from Thailand 🇹🇭 they also offer Vietnamese pho!
Great prices and the owners are so kind. It's a pleasure to support a family owned business that's unpretentious and offers a wide array of enticing food.
One of the best thai food in chicago. Taste is authentic just like in Thailand. Every thing is delicious. It is quite spicy. The place is small, only 10 seats. You can reserve table in advance. It may be difficult to find street parking. Or you can go by red line, get off at Belmont and walk a little bit. Or order ahead and pick up or have it delivered.
Super cute ❤️ and delicious food. Green & panang curry perfect spice level & super flavorful!
Little restaurant with a few seats, very nice peaceful atmosphere, gentle music w/ doting staff.
Also can’t be the prices in this economy 😮💨
Best Thai food in Chicago! Always so good.
Непримітне кафе, але дуже смачно все!
Великі порції, врахували всі побажання, приємні ціни, привітний власник. Рекомендую!
The staff and service was very friendly and they took excellent cleaning safety measures. We ordered Crab Fried Rice, Tom Yum Noodle Soup, and Pad Prik Khing which were all very flavorful with perfect blend of spices. If you want authentic Thai food in Lakeview I would highly recommend Tom Yum Cafe!
Never taste any Thai food so bland like this
Hours are wrong - went at 10:14 on a Friday night and they were closed - google says open till 11
This place has the best Thai food in the area! Not only is the food fresh and flavorful, but the owner is super kind too! I loved my experience here :)
I had stopped ordering from here about 3 years ago since the food was no longer good...I had been a loyal customer since 2016. I have been ordering from all the recommended other sources and they all seem to have gone down lately. I thought I would give Tum Yum another try since their reviews seem to have gone up and since the others were disappointing lately and WOW! They're back! Food was reasonably priced, portions were generous and the quality was exceptional! I'm back to being a loyal customer again!...so happy!
OK...I ordered twice since the 5 star review above. They have no menu to offer and ask you to look online...the prices online are from delivery services and they are elevated prices that the delivery services are charging to cover their expenses...even if you pick up the food...so it is way overpriced! The services add about 20%, or at least 15% to menu prices to cover their expenses...so Tom Yum charges the same for some reason. The quality of the dishes the next two times I ordered was not good. They forgot the sauce for the mediocre pot stickers, the Tom Kha soup was like water with very little flavor, The Lard Nar was inedible...not like anything I have had before and the Shu Mai was full of baby shrimp (not minced) and very fishy tasting...we tossed them. The Pad Thai had no flavor, it was like soggy bean sprouts and bland noodles... So long Tom Yum Cafe. There are better places for less money and higher quality. I get upset when I feel ripped off!
The chicken pad Thai is delicious, but I also got pot stickers this time and didn't care for them. I got them steamed and they weren't firm in the way they should be. They were super long and floppy and stuck together so they ripped open when I tried to separate them. They also weren't that flavorful. I still love this spot, but I wouldn't recommend the steamed pot stickers.

I am a Thai food enthusiast and local chef so I enjoy trying new restaurants and their take on classic dishes. The north side of Chicago is booming with excellent options for Thai cuisine and I was excited to try a newer one. I was so hopeful coming to this small establishment that looks like a Ma and Pa feel. The guy who took my order was nice but very disappointed that my receipt only showed the total charges instead of items. I ordered the Beef Pad Thai and the Panang curry noodles. Panang Curry Noodles a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT and was not combined in the sauce that amount to the consistency of soup…. I was given a box of dry noodles separately from the watered down curry soup! I had to mix it together in which the photos show it just wasn’t curry at all. The soup quickly absorbed the noodles which tasted flavorless. So unhappy $20 plus down the drain for dry noodles and a 3 shrimp soup sauce. Too pricey for what is being offered! Try Joy Noodles or anything else but this! The Pad Thai was okay which is why I gave it a 1 stars! I wish instead I could have given it none. Panang Curry should never taste watery and plain! I know there’s better options in the neighborhood that I will try…. Sorry 😞 but I tossed the dry noodles….Just wasn’t worth it….$35 for 2 entrees that was very dry… Not willing to try it again
Cute lil Thai spot! Yum I would come back just for those crab rangoons! Don't be shy- order the peanut sauce and you'll be pleasantly surprised how that can enhance the flavors of it all
Good, but a bit overpriced for what you get. There are other thia places that are just as tasty and less expensive.
Delicious food and consistent quality. One of my go tos for take out!
small place but i rate the food and it’s delicious when you are into thai cuisine
Went to see if I could find the same taste from my favorite Thai spot back home. It wasn’t found here. I instead was humbled in remembering that each chef has their own style, flavor, and take on any one dish. I ordered the tum kha soup, pad Thai, and Thai iced tea. All were delicious. Thank you Tom Yum Cafe!
Pad Tai- all noodles not even ratio, protein, vegetables. Faint chemical smell and flavor. Packaged taste
Acceptable takeout Thai cuisine. Fairly good value for money.
Delicious!!!!!
must visit for all lovers of thai cuisine.
a bit if wait time thats worth it.
Ordered on Grub Hub and they said on orders $25+ they include a side of egg rolls, and when I picked it up, they basically said I don't know even when I showed them the offer on my phone. False advertising, food wasn't the best.
Food was so delicious! We had the spring rolls, pad thai, and basil stir fried chicken. I loved it all!
Always good and very friendly staff. Papaya salad is great
Tom kah soup meh. Curry. Prob the worst I ever tried. It was more like broth a total joke and embarrassing to Thai cuisine
Awesome little spot with great food and great service. Authentic Som Tam, amazing chicken satay, super duper Pad See Eew -- what more can I say...ขอบคุณครับ!
Authentic Thai food
The best โป๊ะแตก ever in chicago. I recommended this for who ever wanna try authentic tom yum from thailand.
Their som tum (papaya salad) is incredibly authentic! Tastes like home!
Their papaya salad is delicious. I’ve tried so many and their recipe is so flavorful and good. Watch for the spice because it sneaks up on you.
So good
Quick service for takeout and the food was delicious! :)
Takeout was ready in ten minutes! Tasty too :)
Love Tom Yum! Their pad see ew is by far my favorite in the city and the lunch deals are amazing value. Very nice staff too.
Ordered from Tom Yum via Grubhub tonight and the entire meal was horrible. The massamum curry was NOT right at all. Grey dried out beef and a watery sauce. Not a hint of curry. Pad Thai was flavorless and topped with peanuts when asked to have them held. Larb and Tom Kai were also disappointing. This restaurant does not know how to make good Thai at all. Bad, bad, bad! Grubhub should drop this restaurant.
delicious and very great food.
Great authentic taste, particularly with the namesake Tom Yum!! Actual galangal and lemongrass in the broth! It's our favorite in the area! Also try the boat noodles!
Pickup (takeout) experience has been fantastic. Delicious curries and extremely friendly staff!
Live near by and tried it 3 times before giving up. Never found a good dish
My go-to for amazing Thai Food in Lakeview. Delicious food and very nice staff.
Amazing!!
This place is so underrated. It’s sad that people don’t really see the restaurant because it’s around the corner .
The food is so flavorful. My favorite is the chicken basil and the papaya salad.
The prices are cheap. Try it!
The food was outstanding!!! We did the lunch menu for $10, so worth it! We ate indoors, seating wasn't very comfortable and service wasn't that great. I think they operate more as a take out...
Great Tom Yum. Very cozy. Limited seating. Very intimate but fantastic food and friendly staff
Would recommend fasting rather than eating here.
Chicken larb was one dimensional in flavor. Pad Thai had virtually no taste at all. Even the peanut sauce on the Thai salad was not up to basically Thai takeout standards.
Basil chicken was actually tasty, as was the mango sticky rice. But something made me ill.
BYOB. 12-seats. Lots-n-Lots of authentic Thai Spicy Dishes! Neighborhood Place.
"No delivery as they only have 2 Cooks." 🥰 Untainted by Greed! 😉
Basic protein is INCLUDED with dish. 👏 $9.50 PAD SEE EW is a single serving. So, so THAI ICED TEA.
I look forward to coming back for more especially the Soups!
Дёшево и вкусно
Amazing hole-in-the-wall Thai place. Good prices. Tasty food! Great place to bring a date for that intimate feeling. Would definitely eat here again.
Love the Thai basil Stir Fry!
Food tasted like absolutely nothing, I had ordered the pad Thai and Thai rice and got an order that tasted like nothing. Wouldn’t recommend this spot, I was left half sick afterwards.
a foodie , tiny ,hard to find place with excellent Thai food.cOnly 4 tables means that they make it all fresh to order.
Pricey but excellent
Fantastic. If you wanna feel ‘REAL’ thai food, you should go. Go twice. Go three times. Keep going. I haven’t eaten all the food they provide. But I assure that theirs are true one.
There were some people eating there like us. But there the people ordering foods to go, too.
I truly recommend you all to go.
TERRIBLE. Long wait only to be given the wrong order. Owner admitted it was their mistake but refused to replace it. Called twice to ask for a refund but was refused and ended up getting screamed at by two different workers.
AVOID.
The noodles we quite undercooked.
Best Thai food! Love the isaan sausage. Everything is tasty.
Its a small hole in the wall sort of a place. Best for takeout. We ordered soups, curry and a stir fry entree which were very good.
This place has the Real of Thia food . Is very Yummy Yummy
Pretty good stuff. Not very expensive, and service if you are ordering out. I wouldn't recommend treating this as a sit down place, rather a take out place. I would recommend the American Fried Rice the most, which has hot dogs, eggs and chicken wings in it, which is pretty good.
A hole in the wall with great tasting Thai food.
Tasty Thai food with hearty portion. The owner (who is also the chef) is a lovely Thai lady.
My favorites (so far) are their noodle items. Try boat noodles (noodle in pig blood broth-trust me, it tastes so much better than you would think) and ก๋วยจั๊บ 'guay jub' (flat noodle with sweet and salty broth topped with hard boiled egg, pork, etc). Guay jub taste just like what we have in Thailand! Sooo good.
Amazing tasting thai food.
Delicious. Amazingly huge menu for a tiny kitchen. Highly recommend
The fourth star is for the taste of the food. This place is pretty much middle of the road for me. I wouldn't say that its very different from the average american Thai offerings. They have a pretty decent lunch special, but the soup of the day depends on whatever they have in their kitchen. For me, the sauces and taste of the dishes had more authenticity than the average thai restaurant.
The place is small and I came here on a Saturday, and it was completely empty. However, given its size Im sure it fills up pretty quickly. They do take reservations. I would recommend calling in advance on the day you are going there since they have been closed a couple of times when I went. Also, when on Broadway, turn west onto Barry, they are the 3rd building down on the right.
the service was good- not too much english spoken, but efficient and helpful. The cook makes good
Awesome Thai food ... Yum Yum 🇹🇭
This Thai restaurant is small, but has seating for about 12 people. The menu offers a large variety of dishes, which is great. The food was pretty good, but some dishes were a miss.
Tod Mun Pla $6.50 – Small delicious fish cakes.
Tom Kha soup $4.50 – Good and comes loaded with ingredients.
Kai Jeow Ground Pork $7 – You can’t go wrong with Thai omelet.
Pad Ped Pla Duk $12 – Catfish with just the right kick.
Bamee Galic Chicken $9 – Not much to this dish other than noodles and chicken. Not the bamee style I like.
Mor Kang $4 – Pass on this dessert. I’ve had much better Thai custard than this dry and bland one.
We were able to find paid street parking out front.
delicious Thai food. Small hole in the wall but great place for take out or quick lunch. The pad Thai and massaman curry were very good.
Their food seems watered down. . The curries and sauces are diluted. The portions, in comparison to other similar places has decreased.
There was a fly in my water. Set lunch menu was awful
We eat here quite often. The food is very delicious and authentic. Consistently flavorful.
The restaurant is very small, but very tasty and authentic.
Their phone number doesn't work. I called multiple days and no one ever picks up.
Tiny little place with super friendly staff and reliable Thai favorites.
We ordered to deliver. I am a 45 year old family man with a culinary taste. First the hot and sour soup smelled. The fried rice was very greasy. The Chicken Sate was edible. The edamame was rejected by my kid. (she loves edamame) How can you mess up edamame!!!!!!! Hope they fix this soon.
Food here is authentic.
Great Thai food , finally in our neighborhood!
Best Thai in town.
Very tasty food. Very friendly. I don't think I
have had a bad thing here.
The best authentic Thai food in Chicagoland!!!
This little hidden spot was a good find for me when I lived in the neighborhood. They were open later than other places for those late night munchies and their food is clean with good portion sizes. I was never disappointed.
Really good food that isn't heavy with the salty canned flavorings. Little sitting area if you want to eat in. Best take out Thai in the neighborhood :)
All of the food we got was WONDERFUL! My only complaint was that the portion sizes are pretty small for the price, so you may want to get an appetizer. The cashew chicken is AWESOME and so are the crank rangoon and pot stickers!
The Best Thai food on the Broadway!!
Try their Cambodian fried rice!!
Great authentic food. Quite small with 4-5 tables, but the food makes up for it.
Food was great just only one time difference. I can give 4-5stat for food but open time I rate 1 star because i went there but restaurant still close maybe 7 times and make me so dissapoint. How they can do business with out permise time
Says they open at 11:00a. They do not. If they stick to their business hours as posted, they could have had our business. I guess they do not like making money. Or know how to run a business. On to the next place :)
Tasty-Tasty!
I USED to eat here a lot until I was served COLD CRAB RANGOON! Does this mean you don't make it fresh? Do you re-use old orders, put it in the fridge and then re-sell it? I paid to have extra seafood in my Tom Yum soup, the soup your restaurant is named after, and it came with almost none. I called back and spoke to a very nice woman who took my name and number and said I could come in another day and have my meal replaced. I called today to do so and the owner said that he wanted me to bring in the crab Rangoon from two nights ago! The woman I spoke to never asked such a thing. He would barely let me speak and said he didn't care and that he has other customers so he doesn't care about me. I would think twice about eating here. I never will again.
Very authentic Thai Food and it is very tasty!! We got Green Curry, Pad Se Eww, and Mango Sticky Rice. Made us reminisce about our recent trip to Thailand. I highly recommend if you're in the neighborhood!
So many good Thai restaurants nearby, but I was pleasantly surprised. Great Tom yum, loved the green curry. Will come back
