Low-key spot serving Thai classics in a comfortable space with red brick walls & exposed pipes.
Halal Thai food right in downtown Chicago! The prices are great, the service is excellent, and the staff is super friendly. While the food isn’t outstanding, it’s still very good and captures authentic Thai flavors. The portions are generous and well-presented. The iced Thai tea, however, is a standout and an absolute must-try. Definitely worth a visit!
Avoid this place and believe the bad reviews. We went for an early dinner and ordered noodles and cashew chicken. I have lived in SEA, and I can confidently say this wasn’t even close to SEA cuisine. I wasn’t expecting authentic Thai, but the food was completely inedible. The chicken tasted stale, and the stir-fry came drenched in a soupy, awful-tasting sauce. Even the veggies tasted off. On top of it, they added a 15% gratuity to the bill and still asked for a tip. When we shared our feedback, the manager rudely gaslighted and dismissed us.
For lunch,I ordered the pepper steak and is was served tepid with tough beef. The brown rice was good.
This is an old restaurant and it looks like the owner is ready to retire. It has a last leg feel about it.
Ingredients are nothing more than average quality.Pricing average.Tips are automatically added in.Valet parking available.Decor poor.Carry out boxes and utensils sit in middle of dinning room.
AWARDED 1 YUM ON A SCALE OF 3
Food was herrible and bad. As a Thai person and thai food lover, this is not a real Thai food. I ordered chicken stir garlic, squid salad they were soooo SALTY LIKE Wth. And also ordered beef noodle which is shouldn’t put a pho noodles on this dish. The noodles soup tastes so bad like just a veggie soup, no any taste at all. Wouldn’t recommend. Very disappointed that i chose this restaurant as a only Thai restaurant i want to try for this vacation in Chicago
Don’t get the Pad Thai.
This would be my main warning. I know it’s not the most traditional Thai dish but If I was the owner of a Thai restaurant in the USA you bet I would make sure I serve a decent Pad Thai!! I think the owner stopped caring.
The food came out so quickly that My suspicion is that everything is pre cooked. They probably have a huge batch of pad Thai and just heat it up. That’s the only reason why it would be runny and overcooked. Also the noodles are close to breaking down. No seasoning and bland taste. Simply appalling
The rest of the food was decent, red curry was spicy and creamy but nothing amazing. Beer was cold
We didn’t eat the pad Thai so the waitress asked if we wanted to take it home, we said no and she was very apologetic and gave us some free gyozas to take home which were actually nice. Her kind service and the decent curry are the only reasons why I didn’t give it 1 star.
I’m guessing the good reviews come from people that got other dishes
Every thing is good but, the fragrance is a little bit too strong, affecting the dining experience.
Small joint but excellent food and great service.
The food here was amazing and I want to come back again soon!
Loved it.
Excellent waitstaff excellent food I had the tom yum soup which was completely excellent and I also had the lardon our highly recommended. Fam and gum were excellent servers
Excellent food and customer service. I've eaten here twice so far and enjoyed both dinners.
The food is decent as to its price. The food tends to be sweet than I thought.

Thier mild is not mild , very spicy , couldn’t eat well and didn’t take our huge amount of leftovers
I first experienced Star of Siam at the Taste of Chicago over 15 years ago...and it's still my favorite Thai restaurant to this day! The BEST chicken pad see ew I've ever had. The crab rangoon is so good too! I usually order take out and haven't dined in since pre-covid but used to love the seating on the floor with pillows. I highly recommend - five stars!
We went here with a group of 8 and 3 kids on Christmas Eve. Really good service and friendly atmosphere

The pad Thai had white noodles (?) and tasted nothing like pad Thai. The spring roll appetizer was awful. I came here a few years ago and enjoyed it, so I’m sad it seems to have gone downhill so much.
The food was very mediocre. Tasted really bland and unseasoned. I always tip if the food is good, in this case it wasn’t good at all so I didn’t tip. The server then came up to me and said I’d forgotten to add a tip and then demanded that I add a tip which was quite strange.
I’d definitely go somewhere else

Got the Pad Thai delivered. Big portions but almost completely flavorless 😕. Genuinely think they forgot to add the seasoning
2 out of 4 dishes were 9 out of 10.
Massaman Curry and Pad Thai are gems!
Stay away from sweet and sour chicken and beef fried rice though.
Clean good tasting H20:)))
The masaman curry is our favorite in the city. Everything on the menu is good
Have been going here over 25 years . Families favorite
Food was good but service is okay
Not tasty at all. I would skip. Find another place
Loved this little slice of local in the hustle and bustle of Chicago. Travel here often for work and get tired of all the traditional corporate dinner meals. Food was good, served well and while not always traditional, the name says Uniquely Thai, so it hits the mark. Service was excellent.
The Star of Siam was one of my favorite when visiting Chicago. Ordered it last night and had it delivered and the food was
grotesquely horrible. The rice was hard as a brick and was and the fish tasted old.
I won’t go back and would not recommend this restaurant.
Food is phenomenal, I’m at the table, eating and leaving a review because it’s SO GOOD!
I love this place! Located in the heart of river north, this place is a must! The portions are fairly big and the flavors speak for themselves. It’s the only Thai place I’ve found that I always have seconds no matter how hungry I am. The mango sticky rice dessert is delicious and plenty of mango compared to other Thai places I’ve been to. Usually wait times aren’t too bad either which is another plus.
Rich flavors, reasonable cost, well lit, good recommendations by the staff - hard to not do 5/5. Really enjoyed the curry and grilled beef in particular and pad see ew. Looking forward to trying more of the menu!
Very nice people. Loved the food. Good family place. Good value

Do NOT go here. This place deserves 0 stars. Worse Thai food known to man. Server was extremely rude and defensive when confirming about halal items. I never write reviews but I needed to say how bad this place was.
Tried this place when visiting Chicago as they had halal options. Immediately regretted as we were met with rude staff when we asked a question and then horrible food shortly after. The beef and chicken had an off putting smell to them and the food was just mid overall. Lacking flavor and quality.
Very efficient and great food 😁
As someone who has lived overseas, I can say this is the best, freshest, and cleanest food I've ever eaten. This is a place that you can taste how much their care about the food. Even the fruit in your drink is the freshest fruit I've ever tasted. The staff is kind and gets you your requests at an incredibly fast pace. Went 2 days in a row, and barely waited 5 minutes for my food, even when they were busy. Keep in mind, it takes me an hour and 25 minutes to even get here. They also have incredibly reasonable food prices for being in the city.
Cheers to the super adorable waitress that made the experience even more awesome. Super kind and friendly. The best service I've had in a long time.
This place deserves 5 stars, no doubt. Top tier service and cooking.
Quite possibly the worst Thai food I ever had. Very bland, flavors really tamed down. The interior is really weird food, not welcoming and seems dirty. The service was friendly and fast tho.
The food was amazing and so was our waitress Rosie!
Large portions for an affordable price with very friendly waiters. Delicious curry! I also highly recommend the Thai iced tea. I didn’t get soup but the table next to me did, it also looked delicious.
Ordered pad thai and thai iced tea and it was delicious. Ended with their coconut ice cream and was extremely satisfied with my meal. Got to meet the owner and he’s a very kind man.
Mein absoluter all time favourite der Thai Küche ist grünes Curry.
Hostile server. My server became hostile towards me when I asked for a to-go box for my rice while she was clearing, and it ruined my experience of the meal, which I guess tasted okay. I also got a takeout pad see ew, and that was not good. I would recommend trying other places.
High reviews for this place is probably some scam, way below average food, service too very bad. Since no one came upto me I walked to grab some cutlery and the waitress demanded I let her do her job not realizing that she failed to bring my soda. For someone who insisted I let her do her job forgot my order. I'm not the sort to provide reviews but I came here based on reviews and wanted to let others know the reviews don't align with what this place is actually. Very very disappointed customer.
Our go to place for Thai. Simple and delicious with good ambiance
The curry was not creamy and tasty. It needs to be cook more time.. The padthai was bland. Even the simple jasmine rice...
Some of the worst pad thai of my life: flavorless, bland, overcooked noodles, undercooked tofu. The dish is just bright beige. Zero flavor or seasoning in here. Served with a lemon?!?! This is lame as hell.
Egg rolls were soggy; the veggies inside were stringy and chewy. Gross.
Thai Coffee is great, so I guess that's something.
Delicious. Owners and staff were very kind.
Been coming to this restaurant since the 90s and this place is an institution. Curries were incredibly flavorful and spiced to perfection. The Massaman curry was an absolute highlight. Service was friendly and quick. We don't know Chicago without Star of Siam
I feel like I went to a party but really just had lunch.
There are very few places where I would write a review and even less where I would actually do. My wife and I came to Chicago on a 4 day holiday trip and were in the mood for thai food.
I asked google for some nearby suggestions and came up with 2, Star of Siam won the contest as it was closer and less pricey. The look outside is not impressive and when you step in it feels much more intimate, as if you were being invited to your Thai friend's house.
You can immediately tell that this place is going to be the real deal.
To start we had a rice and chicken soup that we shared, it was exactly what we needed, the size was perfect for two and it was tasty, perfect for somebody looking for somethin healthy and good. Next came a salmon with curry on top and some vegetables on the side, simply perfection, the curry was well balanced and the vegetables cooked to perfection, no added butter or fat anywhere, it does not need it period.
My wife had a beef with curry which was a bowl of beef bathed in abundant creamy peanut curry sauce that was just delicious reminded me of an old indian favorite dish. When we got the check we were very satisfied on value for money. If you are in town and in need of something different you cant go wrong here.
This was the worst Thai food that I’ve had in a long time! I ordered the “spicy eggplant” and asked if it was spicy. I was told it was medium spicy but when it came it wasn’t spicy, it had no flavor and wasn’t hot. It was basically overcooked eggplant in a tasteless sauce. The service was not attentive. This is just not a good restaurant - what a disappointing experience!
Came in to dinner with my parents on Labor Day. Wow, highly efficient service. Very kind staff and workers. Most importantly, a very diverse selection of dishes. There are reviewers that are really picky and bash the restaurant but our experience was phenomenal. Try their green tea ice cream, delicious (:
Very friendly service but questionable food. Some of the chicken I had, though very flavorful, seemed undercooked and I did NOT want to eat it. The peanut sauce it came with, however, was delicious. The Pad Thai is on the sweeter end but I liked it. I also had the green curry chicken which was spicier than expected so I didn’t love it exactly. The “deluxe” Thai tea was also a little short of expectations because it was literally just sugar. The best thing I had was the mango sticky rice which is probably the best I’ve ever had - perfectly ripe mangoes, very sticky and warm rice, and a good coconut sauce. Overall experience was alright but there better places for Thai food given how expensive the bill was after including the gratuity fee (total about $25 per person).
We went in for dinner ,with a stroller and baby. We were greeted rudely placing close to door even though we asked for another table ( the restaurant was practically empty) but Nops.
Food we ordered came in quick , to our surprise it was bland and tasteless. Chicken saate and giyoza was fine .
We are a big fan of Thai food but this was next level bad. Fried rice was tasteless and noodles was dry . We ate maybe 25% of food and couldn’t eat any more.
On top of that 15% surcharge added to bill . Am not against tip and I believe 20% should be norm But forcing on people is bad.
I think they know people won’t place a tip after bad food Thatsy they charge it to bill.
I don’t do many reviews, especially posting a negative one, but this place was jaw dropping (and not in a good way.) It was our first time here and our server was fast at serving us but was rude in some instances. I do not tolerate when my parents feel even a sliver of disrespect, attitude, or talking back. There was a moment where we questioned sanitation of the restaurant due to an event that occurred. The atmosphere was fine but it just didn’t feel 100% to us. The most important part is the fact that our meal costed $100+ when majority of our food was unsatisfactory. I do however recommend the shumai which was delicious but unfortunately it all went downhill from there. The salmon was overcooked and the vegetables seemed like they were from frozen packaging. The beef with broccoli appeared to be dumped onto the plate, the beef was chewy, and the sauce was very watery as well. Last and yes the least, was the Pad Thai. I have never been more disappointed by a dish in my life. As dramatic as that seems this Pad Thai had overcooked noodles that were not soft and savory. The noodles were chopped up and not long and stringy like past Pad Thais i’ve enjoyed, and the proportion of peanuts was very unbalanced as well as everything else. The whole dish as a whole tasted edible but is the bare minimum for a restaurant. The chicken was rubbery and I soon felt uneasy after eating. I was very shocked by the size of the food, it got me thinking it would be delicious at first and that I can have more later, but I was sadly wrong. Shortly after eating the Pad Thai my stomach went in knots and I felt very uneasy. I have never wanted to leave a restaurant as quickly as possible. Please do your research before assuming this place is worth the money and your time. Thank you.
No stars but i had to give a star so i can post my review. Dissappointed. And 15% gratuity automatically added to the bill. Not worthy.
The food was delicious. We had red curry chicken, which had the right amount of spice and shrimp pad-see-eiw, which was very good. Thai tea was also very good and not too sweet. Food came out very quickly and service was very attentive. I highly recommend this place.
Spa music playing, full of farangs. Not sure really to make of this place. They do use fresh vegetables and herbs. You can literally see them on the sidewalk. They love salt. Service was great IMO. Even though a dish was sent back they went above and beyond to fix it. I think if you have a problem they want to learn how to fix it. Overall, ok. Not great but good.
Not the best beef noodle soup nor is the spring roll the best. But the service was very nice.
Food was alright. Lacking flavor significantly. Over priced from what I usually spend per dish and 15% tip included in bill. They ask for a tip on top of that as well.
Really enjoy Thai food but this place was severely lacking flavor.
Service was super fast and the staff were very friendly.
Ordered: Pad Sew Ew, Fresh Spring Rolls, yellow curry (rice was not included and an extra charge) premium Thai tea which was a regular Thai tea. $80
15% tip included and then they ask for additional tip.
I visited this place by myself. They automatically added 15% tip to my bill on top of the meal price and tax, and then the receipt asks you to add tip again. Be careful if you got the bill with just one number and no other details. Ask for the itemized receipt to be sure that they don't already add 15% tip to the total (you will end up giving 30% or more tip at the end, unless that's what you want).
Star of Siam is one of the many Thai places in downtown but needs to up their service. The food is great with many of the dishes which can be made vegetarian or vegan. The Green Papaya salad and the Masaman curry are my top two dishes along with the Mango sticky rice. However the service was mediocre to say the least. The plates were not clean and they did not provide us cutlery even after the food arrived. The waiters seemed be over loaded with work even at 4 pm when there were not many customers. Our waitress was in a hurry to get our orders and did not seem too interested to answer our questions regarding the ingredients in the dish. The food made up for the meek service this place provides.
Do not make the mistake and stop here for food. It is bland and tasteless and makes you want to throw up. Service is rushed and very rude. Went here twice and that was too much, never again...
We ordered vegetarian pad Thai and it was very good. The smell, and the taste matched up. Our server was also very nice and friendly.
The ba mie veggie was excellent combination of classic noodle taste and fresh vegetables in savory veggie broth . If you need hot spice, the best to do is adding mixed if pepper and chilies powder.
Food was fresh and flavorful. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend the shrimp egg rolls and the spicy crazy noodles.
Good service, good food, properly spicy for me when I asked for spicy.
I stopped by for a pick up. The way I was treated was terrible. The customer service is awful. They don’t know how to talk to people. They don’t even have a manager. So I wasn’t able to solve the problem
Was within walking distance of my hotel. We were pleasantly amazed ny the good! So delicious. Will visit again when we are in the area
We had an amazing experience there! The food was amazing and the service was so quick! The people working there are so kind and generous! One of the servers gave us a free desert! Would recommend!
Perfect bowl of red curry shrimps if you like spicy !
We dined here last night. The waiteress(Anne) took our order, she was completely distracted and as expected got our order wrong. She offered no apology and to be honest a bit rude at times. we had to ask for water, cutlery and plates a couple of times !
The food was also quite under whelming. We ordered Tom Yum soup, red curry and spicy fried egg plants. Tom yup soup was very good, no issue there. However the rest of the food lacked flavor and probably the worst thai food i’ve eaten.
To add insult to the injury there is a 15% mandatory gratuity which I strongly believe our waitress doesn’t deserve !
Definitely not going here again.
What a gem! I literally cannot stop thinking about the Tom Kha Gai. Definitely good you're in the area.
Awesome Thai spot in Chicago on Illinois. Big fan of the chicken pad ped, it was is indeed very spicy but listen—mind over matter. It’s delicious. If you’re nervous, get extra rice and go easy on how much pad ped you add. A thousand percent worth it. Very cool and authentic digs!
27.PAD THAI (THAI STYLE NOODLES)@
Stir-fried thin rice noodles with small pieces of tofu, egg, chives, bean sprout and peanut.
(chicken, tofu, vegetables 14.75/ beef 15.75/ shrimp 16.75)13.75&fried rice
パッタイは、酸味が効いていて美味しかったです。量は多いです。フライドライスは、これも凄く美味しかったです。ランチのtipは15%初めから入っているので考えなくてもOK。
Very nice place, some of us absolutely loved the peanut sauce based dishes. I was very excited to see stir fried green beans. Unfortunately they were a bit tough and chewy.
Ordered the vegetarian egg rolls and the green curry, which were both delicious. Only drawback was the overpriced $5 charge for a medium portion of simple white rice. It's worth noting, same as other reviews, that there is a tip automatically included regardless of the size of your party. I really enjoyed the flavor of all the various tableside sauces.
15% MANDATORY Tip? Scam of Siam
And they get rude and lie when questioned about. Also pay EXTRA FOR RICE on an overpriced menu. Cheats. Thai food without rice?
The brown skinned girl is a trained liar and the tall bald man is the mastermind. The food is NOT Thai. I would hesitate to even call it American Thai. If you have eaten real Thai, you would know.
The girl lied to my face that every table has a note stating 15% mandatory tip. None of the open tables had them. And then she lies about not knowing how to reverse it cos it’s her first day at work. And a whole bunch of lies after that – straight out of Bangkok slums! AVOID this Scam of Siam. K̄hmoy
I enjoy the place!! For a 4.1 I gave them a 5.0!! Everything was perfect!!
Simply awesome restaurant for some great Thai Food. The service was super duper swift. We literally just settled in our chairs after ordering and the food was there. And boy was the food super good.
The food was incredible and so was the service! The atmosphere was very relaxing and welcoming as well, gem of a place!
The food is incredible. The owner runs a great restaurant. I definitely recommend this place. The food is fresh.
My first Thai restaurant in 1992, and still one of my favorites anywhere in 2024. Generous portions, great service
Love this place. 2nd times I’ve been here when I’m the area of Chicago. Food is fresh and delicious. Off minor street so a little quieter and cheaper than the main st. Food is amazing. We had chicken soup and appetizers. Pot stickers, crab Rangoon, vegi egg rolls and cucumber salad all which were great. They do add the 15% tip for you but let you k ow up front. I recommend.
Loved the Red Curry; awesome meal!
Not so Thai.. more like southeastasian fusions, singaporean-thai. Love the atmosphere and very kind staffs!!
I doubt the place is run by Thai ?
Super in all terms (rude. Hostile , no patience, Bad attitude, esp the old bald guy don’t know either he is a waiter or manager such a waste in the hospitality industry)
Sincere recommendation don’t waste your time.
P.S: in general Thai are super nice people and sweet to talk from my experience in Siam or outside of the country too
Amazing staff, super fast and friendly! Food just not great.
Great food. Two is us dined. Ordered food. Received food. Paid the bill. Not sure why they automatically charged 15% tips. Already paying for food. Servers should be paid appropriately by their employee. Tips are up to customer and for when someone goes above and beyond their job responsibilities.
I ordered the miso soup, eggplant, and massaman curry and all were super delicious. They were accommodating of vegans in the group. Everything came out very fast for our large group
Great pad thai and beef and broccoli. Went with family and by ourselves. Although aggressive about tipping more.
Incredible and delicious food and somehow the service is even better!!! Gyoza is soft but crispy and delicious. The spicy sauce was not too spicy. I could eat the peanut sauce with a spoon straight up! Favorite Zabhiha Halal spot downtown!
Amazing Thai food. Serves halal as well. Thank you so much 😊! Never had a bad meal here.
Pretty normal thai restaurant. Flavors do not hit the spot at all.
Order fryrice , cucumber was bitter and rice had a lot of oil at the bottom of container made me sick
The food and service is Exceptional..The price is quite reasonable..This is definitely a must go to restaurant..When I am in Chicago, this is my go to restaurant..Keep up the Great work ...
Découvert par hasard...
Une cuisine délicieuse et un service souriant !
A ne pas rater ! Ça change de la célèbre et très décevante dish pizza... !
Je choisis le royaume de. Siam pour la cuisine ! Chicago je t'aime !
Worst server and food
I recently dined at Star of Siam and was disappointed to find a mandatory 15% tip added to my bill, which goes against Illinois policy. Tips should be optional and reflect the service and food quality, not forcibly charged. When I confronted the owner, he claimed that this charge was to support his staff because they don't earn enough otherwise. Despite this, I suspect the tips might not actually be going to the waitstaff, which is disheartening. Transparency and fair treatment of staff are important, and this experience left me with a negative impression.
Was there for a business lunch. Great food and service. I ate more than I should, the food was that good.
The waitress was incredibly impatient while taking our order, displaying poor customer service skills. Additionally, we were shocked to discover that a 15% gratuity was automatically added to our bill, despite being only four people and not being informed of this policy beforehand. It's disappointing that they charge such a high gratuity rate even for a single person. Overall, a disappointing experience.
The drunken noodles lacked flavor and were unusually thick and sweet compared to regular noodles, which was odd. The sticky rice was wrapped in a banana leaf instead of being served in a banana, leading to some confusion. The 15% tip is automatically added to the bill after tax is applied. Overall, the experience was disappointing.
A well-appointed Thai restaurant with prompt, polite, and attentive service to the needs of the customer.
The dishes are quickly prepared and extremely flavorful and tasty.
Definitely worth trying and trying again—well done! 🍽️👏
They added a 'gratitude fee' without asking me. I was the only one person, just bought soup for $12 USD, and in the end, it was $17 USD. The food was good, but I won't be coming back again.
We started with gyoza which weren’t bad but a little soft even though they were fried. For my main, I got the pad khee mao hot. The portion size was good but everything else wasn’t. The chicken was over cooked and while the shrimp was tasty, I only got two small ones. The noodles were cooked fine but lacked flavor. Finally, for being an already spicy dish and then asking for extra spice, I didn’t taste any spice. My nose didn’t run and I didn’t have to drink any water once. Overall, I find Thai food hard to mess up but this seemed to find a way.
Food is 3*, very basic, this is predominantly a delivery/takeout spot. Good portions, would order to eat, nothing to enjoy in terms of flavors. They have 15% mandatory tip for sit downs - that was communicated very clearly and is fair, my only issue is that they calculate tip on post-tax amount
I had a green curry which was amazing.
Food was good, great atmosphere, but one of the older servers scammed us (a table of six college students) into buying an appetizer without disclosing the price or asking if we agreed to order it. After the appetizer arrived to our surprise, we asked about the price and he proceeded to tell us that he had generously discounted it from $29 to $25 due to our age.
We ordered through uber eats. Took a really long time. We got the greed curry, pad kee mai, and pla-duk . Food was bland, not spicy, needed salt, noodles were dry, green curry was missing everything it just tasted like water and coconut milk. Each dish is about $15 and rice for the curry is separate. Very disappointing. Would not order again.
Excelente servicio y la comida está increíble
Pad thai was some of the best we've ever had. Also loved the mai tais, Vietnamese spring rolls, and gyoza.
A great place to eat when spending time downtown. Calming space, great food, and the staff is really, really nice—they go above and beyond to make sure you have a great experience. Very kid friendly. Highly recommend.
The food is so good that I started eating immediately without taking any photos. It is one of the best Thai restaurants in US.
This is the worst service Thai restaurant i ever had in my life!!
I went to this restaurant at noon on March 24/2024 Order Kanar Num man hoy (kanar is Chinese Broccoli) but this restaurant using Broccoli instead! (Not Chinese Broccoli)
I asked to change dish but a girl staff seam doesn’t want to do it, she said actually we do nothing wrong and have right to not change it!! What!!
However, she eventually changed dish to Mussamun.Curry in the end!
I placed a large catering order for delivery from Star of Siam last week, and it may have been the most seamless and delicious group food ordering experience I have ever had. Incredible value for the amount and variety of food, and they use halal high-quality chicken and beef. Cannot recommend highly enough!
My friend and I went there for dinner once and we got sick soon after going. The staff were very polite and friendly but the food got us both poisoned.
I visited based on reviews, but I'll never return, and I strongly advise against visiting this place at all costs. A couple of highlights are as follow;
1. All customers will receive a peculiar warning(?) sign with the menu about tipping at least 15%. If the service is good, customers are usually willing to pay more than 15%. Why force a certain percentage of tip?
2. I ordered Pad Thai, which is typically hard to mess up since it's a signature dish. However, the food was horrible; it was overcooked, resembling congee.
3. While I was eating, a lady was cleaning and mopping next to me. Did she want me to eat all the dust with my food?
Came a long way to have dinner after seeing great reviews. Worst food ever. Absolutely no taste
The service here is good. We were seated quickly during a busy evening, and the waitress was nice and attentive. I noticed the waitstaff members repeatedly asking their patrons if they needed anything.
The atmosphere seems warm and cosy despite the busy dinner rush. There was a line starting to form after we got in.
The foods are not the best or the worst Thai I’ve had. Like they almost hit the spot, but not quite there yet. The Tom Yum soup is flavorful on top, but I notice the flavor becoming lighter at the bottom. The drunken noodles are good, but could be a tad more flavorful. I did enjoy the green curry chicken.
The rice comes with an extra $5 charge for a large bowl. And the bill has an automatic 15% tip added. Prices are reasonable for this touristy part of Chicago.
Overall, I’d say this is a decent spot to try amongst all the other food options in the area.
Good food but I got double charged.
My friend and I split the bill - they charged me the entire bill but then still charged my friend half.
Reached out over 4 months ago via the contact form on the website and never got a response.
Which is why I won’t be back although I used to like to go there.
No wifi
I was n given the wrong appetizer and provided drinks after my food arrived despite ordering beforehand. My vegetable entree was literally $5 bag of steamed vegetables for $15. None of the food was available as vegan unless it was overpriced vegetables. Service was kind of nice, although there was a bit of a language barrier. Mandatory 15% tip. Would not come back.
Excellent food, prompt service, will be coming here again. If anyone is curious, the spicy items on the menu are NOT spicy at all, so even if you like just a little heat, order something with the spice indicator!
Loved their menu. So many Thai places have such similar menus, but this one had plenty of unique dishes I'd never seen before. I got the Singapore noodles with shrimp and squid. This dish was made in a curry sauce, and I unfortunately can't have garlic or onion, but they were very accommodating and made the dish without those ingredients. It was still so good even without those key ingredients! They also include the tip in your bill- I appreciate it just because I think it shows that the restaurant really takes care of their staff. Sometimes people don't tip, but this ensures their employees are taken care of. As they should be, as they were all great!
Star of Siam Restaurant has been here for ages and is a well known Thai food standby by both locals and area employers (catering).
We started with Gyo Tod (fried wontons) which were unique as you usually don’t see shrimp wontons on Thai menus! They were served with in-house made plum sauce and were generously filled. Very good delicious starter to dinner. We ordered Pad Ruam Mit (mixed vegetables) with chicken although you can have tofu or other meat choices. Also, Panang Nue (beef curry) which didn’t disappoint. Huge amount of beef in the rich flavorful curry!
Both dishes offered generous amounts of tender meat and vibrant flavors.
Notables:
1. If you like your dish spicy hot then you need to tell the server or you’ll get your dish served flat tasting (in my opinion).
2. Jasmin rice is extra and doesn’t come with your meal but the food was really good quality and generously portioned so it wasn’t a big deal.
Restaurant was clean, service was excellent and friendly. Tables and booths are very roomy.
They charged me more than they were supposed to. I noticed that only when I came home. Do not recommend
Pad See Ew was dry and unseasoned. No sauce, it was just stir fried in oil and minced garlic. This is the first time in my life I’ve had BLAND Thai food. I’m perplexed.
This Thai restaurant is a dismal failure. The service is abysmal, the food is mediocre, and the ambiance is hostile. The server ignored me, made me wait, and tossed the menu at me. The food lacked a strong trace of Thai flavor, the vegetables were rubbery, and the noodles were bland. The prices were exorbitant, $20 for a plate of noodle. The server snatched my card and vanished. No gratitude, no courtesy, no reason
