Casual neighborhood BYOB spot serving classic & less-common Thai dishes in a simple setting.
Restaurant next to the Thai Embassy in the US. A convenient place to enjoy the country's signature dishes. .
Silver Spoon Thai Restaurant, offers authentic Thai cuisine in a cozy atmosphere. The menu features a variety of traditional dishes, including Pad Thai, Basil Fried Rice, and Mango Sticky Rice. The restaurant is known for its fast and friendly service, making it a popular choice for both lunch and dinner.
The lady who was working did not want to serve me for some odd reason. She ignored me a few times when I had put my hand up, yet when she looked at me she wasn't even busy. The “spring rolls” here are not cooked how the Chinese & Thailand people cook it. It was soft boiled and had some odd sauce all over it. The restaurant needs to look up on what exactly spring rolls are because whatever it is you are serving.. it isn't that! They also got my order wrong twice..
This garden restaurant which is nestled a small staircase below street level serves delicious and affordable Thai food in a colorful and well decorated modest little setting with cushions on bench seating and tables.
The service is quick and attentive and the spot attracts people of all walks of life.
I recommend the Green Curry and Thai Fried Rice. All dishes come with your choice of protein from chicken, beef and shrimp.
Give them a try if you are in the area!
One of the friendliest places to dine in the area! Some highlights are the Thai Lime tea, pad see ew, and the curry puff appetizer. The curry puff had an incredible mix of spices, with just a little sweetness to make it unique and memorable. Will definitely be going back next time I'm in the area
A very quaint restaurant that is very in the wall! The decor is very cute and really charming to eat inside. The best part is because it is underground you are transported out of Downtown Chicago; no car sounds, no street traffic, just Thai food and vibes.
Food is good for the price (recommend the Lunch Special for the biggest bang of your buck). The drunken noodles were tasty but the Panang curry was VERY tasty!
Would come again to try all the other curries!
The food here tastes really good. The chef must be extremely talented because each curry and soup is seasoned to perfection and bursting with flavor. My one complaint is that there could be more vegetables in certain dishes, but given the extremely reasonable price, some trade-offs are to be expected. Highly recommend.
Great food, cozy vibes, and reasonable prices! Loved how quickly the food came out too and how yummy it was. Will be coming here again!
Restaurant is really good, the server (Jackie) was so gentle and patient and helpful. Also the food was really good. I really enjoyed the whole experience
Ordered pad Thai for lunch. Noodles were gummy and stuck together. Was very disappointing, especially considering the price.
The staff here are rude and racist towards black so my people watch out I will never be back.

Food was meh, but was charge 20% tip on top of the bill automatically. No restaurant should be doing this, either charge proper prices for your food and service or close your damn doors.
Ordered food to go and it was 10/10. You have to get the mini egg rolls and pad see ew. We also got some crab rangoon and it was yummy! Would totally dine with this place again.

The food was absolutely delicious! Thank you for the amazing x-hot red curry with chicken. It’s definitely not for the faint-hearted, and that was exactly what I was looking for. I will absolutely be ordering from this establishment again.
Kind of a hidden little gem on Rush St., but worth finding. The food was delicious.
On January 3rd, 2025, at approximately 5:25 PM, I visited Silver Spoon Thai Restaurant with my two children in a stroller. Since the entrance is down a flight of stairs, I politely asked the staff in English if there was an elevator or ramp to assist with access. They informed me there wasn’t one. Then, right in front of me, they spoke to each other in Thai, assuming I didn’t understand, and said, “How are you gonna get a stroller down the stairs? There’s no elevator, you **** ****” (insulting swear word)
This level of disrespect toward a customer is appalling. If they care so little about their customers, imagine how little care they might put into food preparation. I strongly recommend that Thai people and anyone else choose one of the many other excellent Thai restaurants in Chicago.
Rude server.
Cute little place with nice seating area and decent food
Had a great dinner here. Thai Fried Rice w/ Chicken. Egg Drop Soup and Chicken Satay. It was all delicious and ready fast. The service was great.
The food here tastes really good. The chef must be extremely talented because each curry and soup is seasoned to perfection and bursting with flavor. My one complaint is that there could be more vegetables in certain dishes, but given the extremely reasonable price, some trade-offs are to be expected. Highly recommend.
Decent food for the price.
Hot tom yum soup was sooooo Spicy, it wasn’t eatable. I can do spice and eat spicy food everyday but this was ridiculous.
I only had the soup and and seaweed salad so can’t speak for the rest of the food but those two dishes were good, if I could actually eat the soup….
Rama curry used to be so much more substantial now is just watery peanut sauce over a huge bed of broccoli. I loved the peanut buttery curry. The tables closest to the door catch a harsh draft, may want to eliminate or only allow parties of two that can cuddle huddle to avoid the brisk breeze brought in by the delivery drivers
Food was nasty. Panang curry full of oil and pad thai flavorless. Also rice too sticky.
Silver Spoon Thai Restaurant Review
Silver Spoon Thai in Chicago is an absolute gem! From the moment you walk in, the warm and cozy atmosphere sets the tone for an exceptional dining experience. The staff is friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu, always ready to recommend the perfect dish.
The food is the star of the show—authentic, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Their Pad Thai is perfectly balanced with just the right amount of sweetness, while the Green Curry is rich, aromatic, and bursting with fresh ingredients. The Spicy Basil Chicken has the perfect kick, and their Mango Sticky Rice is the ideal way to end the meal.
Portion sizes are generous, prices are reasonable, and everything feels crafted with care. Whether you’re dining in or grabbing takeout, Silver Spoon consistently delivers high-quality Thai cuisine. It’s a must-visit spot in Chicago for anyone craving authentic Thai food. Highly recommend!
Very friendly staff even in the midst of being crazy busy. Food was fantastic as well. We'll be going back.
Ótimo !
My favorite neighborhood comfort spot! A must get.
Absolutely delicious! Tried both the yellow curry and red curry and both were delightful.
Fast service on a Saturday around lunchtime.
Would recommend!!
I’ve been to this place at least four times—three times for dine-in and twice for takeout. Each time, I ordered the same dish. This time, however, I received half the portion of curry. When I called to complain, the staff member insisted the portion was correct, despite my experience from previous visits. I ordered just last Saturday, and while the food may be decent, the response to my complaint was disappointing. The waiter I spoke to was unhelpful and dismissive.
The BEST tom kha soup I’ve ever had. Super fast and friendly service.
Ordered well in advance. They pretended to not have the order. Made it on the spot, took 15 extra minutes. Disappointing experience
Great food and big entrees. Attentive and friendly staff. Nice, clean and cozy place.
Dishes are on the sour side. It’s ok but not authentic Thai
Can be better
Nice hole in the wall Thai place. Some odd odors nearby. Food was pretty good.
One of the friendliest places to dine in the area! Some highlights are the Thai Lime tea, pad see ew, and the curry puff appetizer. The curry puff had an incredible mix of spices, with just a little sweetness to make it unique and memorable. Will definitely be going back next time I'm in the area
This is the best Thai food place in magnificent mile Chicago!
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Not very accessible unfortunately, so we got it to go and ate elsewhere due to a lack of wheelchair access, but seriously delicious nonetheless
First Halal certified Thai restaurant I have ever seen! The food was amazing and even though it was extremely busy, we still got in and out in a reasonable amount of time
Food was good, in basement, cozy size.
Duck curry is amazing and filling 5/5 service as well
All we ordered vegetarian foods were so delicious and yummy 😋top notch 😋
This is far and away my favorite Thai restaurant that I've ever eaten at. The pad Thai is fantastic, but I would also highly recommend the pad talay and crab rangoons. It is located right next to the Thai consulate in a small basement space. Great for dine in and takeout! Paid street parking or garage parking is available nearby.
We ordered on Uber eats and were very happy with the food!
Food is great and staff is sweet!
I recently visited this restaurant with couple of my friends, and we were all amazed at how they haven't increased their prices despite the widespread inflation.
The quality of the food was exceptional. The ice tea was the best I've ever had, and my friends enjoyed a fresh and high-quality appetizer. I tried one of their curry dishes, which was absolutely delicious.
What makes this place even better is that they now offer halal food, which is a fantastic addition for those of us seeking Asian halal options. I will definitely be bringing more friends here in the future.
Highly recommended!
The food was absolutely delicious. The service was great, they played nice music and much more. We ordered four dishes, the massaman curry, veggie Supreme, drunken noodles, and mango sticky rice. We ordered these all for mild, but the drunken noodles were still spicier than you would expect. The massuman curry was amazing, and I would easily get it again. The veggie Supreme was great and a nice variety of veggies. The drunken noodles were spicy in a good way. It was a nice level of spice that was needed to make the food pop. Finally I got the mango sticky rice which I ate so fast. Easily one of the best, highly recommended if you go during the summer. Lastly, the prices posted aren't accurate. We went into this thinking it would be 8-9 dollars a dish but they were actually 15 dollars a dish. I have added 2 photos displaying the price per dish as of 7/31/24.
A table of 6 that came into the restaurant after I did, all got their food before I even got my drink. The wait wasn't even with it,The food was very subpar. Would not recommend to anyone.
Very racist
They don’t sever black people food is very mid.after waiting for 45 mins.
The food was okay and the servers were helpful but the temperature in the restaurant was freezing. I had to leave to get a sweater and was still too cold to enjoy my food and the experience.
Good food and taste is awesome. The price is also fair.
Pretty good spot to get dinner. I like that there's no music in the background.
Food was nice.
Best curries around. Noodle dishes were also amazing.
Perfectly average Thai food. Cozy basement space. Curry was...fine. They forgot our brown rice but at least they offer it. Given the modest quality it's pretty overpriced.
Everything was ok, nothing was out of ordinary
Yeah the food looks good but don't be fooled. The building is infested by pest. The owner of the restaurant and building is a disgusting slumlord. Hundreds of pest haunt this building idk how the restaurant is able to keep them out and safe from the public but not my problem
Cute little NOISY basement space. My pad sew was acceptable but not as good as other Thai restos. Slow service but friendly.
People are horrible with there service You would think customer service wild be nice but no Thru lie about anything if it's not good, they don't understand English
Not highly recommended
Best thing about the Thai Fried rice was the portion. It was sweet, and no spice. I asked for spicy and they put sauce on the side. I wouldn’t come here again.
I am a regular customer. I just tried to pick up an order that was not prepared. I gave a description, and was told that I did not exist. One time I leave the phone in the office! Came back, called with the information, and surprised with the response. They could do it but with a time beyond that I had to eat. Cancelling the order was bad enough, but the lack of apology was amazing. I understand things happen, but being dismissed by the cashier was rather rude. So sad when a place with a good reputation begins to argue with a loyal customer of 8 years

Food is good for the price (recommend the Lunch Special for the biggest bang of your buck). The drunken noodles were tasty but the Panang curry was VERY tasty!
Would come again to try all the other curries!
The food is not super bad, but their Tom Kha soup did not taste how it should (the coconut flavor was not there), neither did the sauce in the mango chicken. Their rama had too little sauce, it was a bunch of bland steamed broccoli and rice with a scanty drizzle of peanut sauce. Service is fine, decor and plating is quite good, but the food is lacking.
Everything from the Thai tea, cucumber salad, to main dishes were EXCELLENT!! Highly recommend and will definitely be back when in Chicago.
Customer Service was great and the food was Flavourful!! Definitely Recommending this place to family and friends !!
The Pad kee mow was maybe the best I’ve ever had. Very affordable too. Thai tea was also delicious.
Menus sencillos pero completos de comida tailandesa internacional.
Absolutely delicious Thai food. The spicy 3 roll appetizer was amazing as was the Tofu rice entree. The Tufo was fantastic.
Thai cuisine was excellent, especially the red curry—it was delicious. The ambience was decent, though not particularly outstanding.
Was looking for a cheap dinner on my first night in Chicago and you can’t go wrong with Thai. This must be a local fav. It was super busy with both takeout and in store. The boys were super attentive and ran that store like clockwork. The dish was super fresh and tasty. If you like Thai and are in the River North area, check this place out.
The atmosphere was very cozy, the service was excellent. The servers were very friendly. For $30 plus tip I felt the servings were rather small, most of the meat was tuff in the main dish. The cucumbers had not marinated enough in the tasty sauce. But, the sticky rice mango was delicious just that the serving was rather small.
Chicago-perfect below street level restaurant right next to the Thai embassy! I had a very reasonably priced lunch special of an egg Roll appetizer and full plate of chicken pad Thai. Just the way I love it, not too sweet. I think this will become my post-hospital visit treat from now on.
I saw this place walking between my hotel and parking garage. I didn’t want to take two trips with my bags! I ordered online but I was early. The staff was hard working and very kind to the crazy lady carrying a ridiculous amount of luggage. And the food was delicious, hot that night and also cold the next day. Highly recommend!
Highly recommend the basil fried rice. You have the option of choosing your, “heat” (spice) level. I choose medium which adds a nice kick. Sometimes I add a protein, chicken is good. Crispy red peppers and onions add a nice crunch and flavor. Will have leftovers for at least two additional meals! Yummy!
so good
I ordered a takeaway Thai fried rice lunch set and seafood tom yum soup. The server said the spring rolls were included in the lunch set, but they turned out to be sticky rice cake-ish rolls with tofu and carrot instead of the typical golden crispy ones I expected. I couldn't eat them at all and was disappointed because I had been craving the crispy ones.
The seafood tom yum soup was filled with fish cake instead of more seafood, which was also disappointing. Additionally, the server said they'd include cutlery, but they didn't. Luckily, I had a plastic fork from a previous meal so I could eat my food 😬
There weren't many Thai restaurant options in the area, so I chose this place, but the overall food and service were really underwhelming.
Friendly Staff, Huge menu, and Great food!
Noodles were a bit hard and the meat was not tender and dry. Sauce is okay. Waste of money. Have given them two chances and both times i'm disappointed in the quality of the food. Will not return or recommend. Only good thing is that it's cheap
Incredibly overpriced. 6 miniature crab rangoons for $10; small portion sizes for main dishes.
Great Thai spot downtown to grab a quick lunch. Stopped in on a Thursday afternoon, and there were quite a number of tables filled up. Still was able to grab one relatively quick. Had the lunch special, Spicy Drunken Noodles + Fried Tofu appetizer. For the price, it's a great lunch and filling, especially when you consider what's around. Definitely recommend it if you're feeling spicy!
This restaurant has the best price for delicious food in Chicago! I really enjoy their noodle dishes and curry. However, I think the quality has gone down a little, but this could be the little time they have to make the food. Anyways, would highly recommend!
Authentic and good thai foods. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to my friends
The food was mediocre, and it took over an hour to come out. The wait staff had no idea what we ordered and we had to check in with them several times before they brought us our food.
Food was flavorless - chicken pad Thai tasted vinegary…
The Duck Curry was to die for- easily the best curry I have had in years! The Pad Thai was excellent, as well. (The Duck Curry was just so good it overshadowed it for me...)
Additionally, it was peaceful and the service was great. Fantastic date spot!
Food was good, but they put bean sprouts in the pad see ew which made my wife sad since it did not say that on the menu.
Amazing food! We loved everything we ordered. Will definitely be back next time we’re in Chicago.
Service is not good.. we waited for an hour for our food
Worth the wait! Small place with huge flavors. A staple for Thai food. Skip the wait,
Order ahead and pickup.
The food was delicious, the portion was big enough, and the wait time wasn't too long. The place in the basement is way better than expected. I loved my yellow curry. I feel that this is one of my favorite Thai restaurants in Chicago. For sure, I will be back.
Pretty good food, highly recommend getting the thai tea
The best Asian food I've ever had!!
The food was decent, but the preparation of each fish was lacking a bit. The noodles were great, but the chicken could be more flavorful. The shrimp was good, but had too much breading. The potstickers had good flavor, but the texture was a little too soft. Good prices for the food, and friendly service, but I didn't have a star dish.
Food was delicious and have returned.
Amazing food and great service!
I love this place, I was so hungry I forgot to take pictures of the meal. The staff here are so friendly, excellent service. The best pad see ew ever, and curry chicken. Don't forget to order sticky rice for dessert! Highly recommend!
Good food with good portion and price.
Great atmosphere. The servants are polite and even give great recommendations. Ofc, the food is delicious.
good food
Everything was really good!
Got the chicken satay, kao soy and drunken noodles. We’ll be back for more.
Excellent pad thai and mini eggrolls. Friendly and fast service.
I got a spicy beef basil, and asked for hot with extra jalapeños. The flavor was good, and the spice was a little mild for me, but I eat habaneros. A normal person might think it was too hot. I wish they had a hotter dish however.
Also, those stairs yo, pray to God b4 walking down.
My wife and I ate here 11/03/2023. The baby egg rolls was our appetizer which was good. We both got the chicken pad Thai. The whole dish tasted off. Undercooked noodles and pieces of chicken that tasted disgusting not to mention the sauce of the dish was not what I have experienced for Pad Thai in the past. Overall just a bad experience with the food. Very disappointed that I wasted the first night of a weekend with my wife on this restaurant.
My go-to Thai spot in River North. Staff are the absolute sweetest and the food is always amazing! This place is also vegetarian and gluten-free friendly!
Very busy.
Slow service, overcooked, small portions, overpricing and not ventilated place
Delicious!!!!
We visited this place 2 years ago on our trip to Chicago. We loved it. Great food, and great service.
Almoço rapido, bom e barato. Menos de 15$
A hidden Thai spot in the heart of downtown on Rush St. you go downstairs and you find a little humble restaurant, but their food is very good. I recommend the Tom Kha Soup and the Satay chicken kabobs with peanut sauce. Only downside is we didn't know it is a BYOB place so someone in my table had to go out and buy some beer at a nearby Whole Foods, but overall great food and good service.
Was absolutely amazing. The food was perfect! The service was great. The price was nice. I wish I didn't wait until the last night to visit here or we would have went more than once! It was outstanding.
I took a friend that never had Thai food before and we had a feast. What I love about Thai is how well it serves both vegan and no vegans.
We ordered Fresh rolls for starters which was nice and vegan pad Thai and massama curry. I missed the veggies on pad Thai tho.
Mango sticky rice was ok. It didn’t feel fresh and it was a bit hard with a lot of green mangos…it was almost authentic not 100% tho.
This place is fine, but the other reviews about the bland flavorless pad Thai are true. Its like they don’t use tamarind sauce in their recipe (the main ingredient for pad Thai sauce). V v disappointing. Crab Rangoon and cashew chicken were fine though.
This is literally a hole in the wall restaurant. I had found this location via Google looking near my hotel. The food was beyond delicious. I could’ve eaten a meal there every day on my trip. Definitely give it a try.
We were looking for a quick bite since we were exploring the city and decided on this spot. It's located on the lower level of a building and when we arrived they had just opened so we were the first ones ib. The staff are friendly and it's a small quaint place to dine. The food to me was only okay, the drunken noodles could use a little more flavor, my friend said her fried rice was too salty, and my bfs dish, he hated. My favorites were the thai tea and orange chicken.
Loved the atmosphere and the food, it was pleasant all around.
Love the atmosphere, hole in the wall basement with a very cozy vibe. Started with their Thai soup, very flavorful, you’ll taste all the different ingredients as it perfectly blends into the the soup, mixture of lime juice, mushrooms, protein and the spices. Same goes for the fried rice, again the mixture and all the ingredients into one dish. Winter is around the corner make this place my go to for soup when I’m in the area.
Almost romantic little place. Loved it in Chicago. When everything closes around downtown, this place is open for dinner and the food is superb!
Amazing food and staff. Lovely atmosphere
