Cozy, funky space with inventive cocktails and a back patio serving up scratch made Thai classics and specialties like southern Thai-style fried chicken and various curries and noodles.
Got delivery from here and sadly it was the worst Thai food I’ve ever had. The Khao Soi was super bland with no spice. The soft noodles were alright but the crunchy noodles were soggy. The Phat Kee Mao was not as bad as the Khao Soi but it was too savory. The only flavor I got was that umami but it was overdone. The veggies and noddles were just fine. Overall, just no complexity in the dishes and the flavor that was there wasn’t enjoyable.
My friend and I went to Same Same Wednesday night and ate on the patio. It was delicious and the drinks were great. Fast forward to today... I just reheated my leftovers and there is a beetle, (clearly cooked within the original meal as its bright and crunchy) in the food. I have NEVER had this happen in my lifetime and I'm disgusted beyond belief. Please remedy your kitchen hygiene and food prep procedures asap. I will not be going back here, which is sad as the food had great flavor. Appetite gone.
We loved their crispy fried chicken. The shallot topping was flavorful and the sticky rice was really soft. I also recommend their fried rice. About the curry, the crispy noodle was good but it was so little, the rest are soft noodle. So only order it if you really into curry.
Food was pretty okay. We sat at the bar and the bartender was pretty cool and attentive. Gave me a new drink when the one I initially got was way too strong. We got the Thai fried chicken with fries. Fries were amazing, chicken was pretty okay. The pad se ew was also okay. Not the best, but this wasn’t a traditional Thai spot so I’m not surprised. I’m not sure if I would be back. The food was just okay.
Pretty good Thai restaurant. Really great service, despite being busy. Food takes awhile to come but it’s really fresh and pretty delicious. 4 stars because it was pretty expensive but it’s on Roscoe street so not surprising. Indoor and outdoor seating- outdoor seating out front and out back which is really nice. Would go back to try their fried chicken and other curries.
Affordable Thai bites in Roscoe Village. Hat Yai fried chicken and spicy fries were delicious. Felt like thai flavors mixed with southern/soul cooking. However, Phat So Ew was a tad too salty and sour for our taste while the Tom Yum soup was bland. Mango sticky rice could’ve been better, the mango wasn’t sweet so as a dessert it wasn’t up to the mark. They got lagers from Thailand which was a nice touch. With 2 patios and indoor space there’s ample seating. Portions are large and you can get plenty for 2 under $30. Staff is friendly and welcoming. They don’t take reservations at the moment but you can call ahead to check if they’re busy. Will be back to try their curries and give it another try to see if it was just a bad day.
The best part about this place is the decor. It's cute, dark, alluring, perfect for a date. But the food was just sooo bland. They didn't offer a spice level for their curry and the massaman was SOO sweet. No other flavors, just sweet. Drunken noodles were okay, pretty bland, one note. Overall, I left incredibly disappointed and wishing for some sort of flavor on my tongue.

food and drinks were all great! we shared a few dishes and tried a few drinks and they were all fantastic. very cozy atmosphere and friendly service.

kind of just okay! I was expecting more flavor from the panang, given all the reviews. shrimp spring rolls were also not that exciting. not a bad experience, but just ok!
It's a cool vibe restaurant but the food is really not great. I was expecting some great Thai food but the value wasn't there and neither was the taste.
Have been here a couple times - dine in and carry out. Chicken is great!
Pad Thai and Panang curry are both a bit bland.
The restaurant looks nice on the inside and outside, and the staff are friendly. Unfortunately, the food is bland and lacks real flavor. It is definitely far from authentic. For good Thai food, I recommend trying other places.

I ordered panang and green curry, both were subpar. Not ordering again.
Best food in Roscoe Village! Vibe is great in there too. 10/10 recommend!
Went twice, first time was okay. Second time was awful, very dry and bland pad Thai, The papaya salad had a weird taste to it akin to Pine-Sol. The ribs were dry and overcooked. When we expressed our dislike to the server, she didn’t really do anything. We left most food on the table and paid the full bill. There are far bette Thai restaurants in the city, skip this place. Go to a Thai restaurant actually run by Thai people. The food did not taste authentic.
Great atmosphere & food! Love coming in for lunch when I can. All staff is super friendly, highly recommend this place.

The Viet style fried chicken was solid and the service was good, but that's about all the positives.
I ordered the neua nám tok and it came with the driest "sticky" rice known to man. We mentioned it to our waitress and asked for just plain rice instead and was met with somehow even drier and burnt rice from the bottom of the pot. The flank steak itself was overcooked for my liking while having no char at all. The greens and the house dressing at least were tasty I guess.
For cocktails, the My Thai slushy was decent, but the Thai Tea-ni tasted more like a standard espresso martini.
The worst food I ever head ! I can’t understand why this place has 4 Stars, this must be a joke
I am persistently on the hunt for Chicagos best Tom-yum soup.
I appreciate a place that puts some mood and intention into the ambience of a restaurant even if that's not what's bringing customers there. They hit the Bangkok Street food vibes perfectly.
Waited 15min for a table and was able to pony up to the bar for a cocktail while we waited. Shocked to see that the only FOH were the two women holding court over the bar and dining room. They were both friendly, attentive and quick.
Order Tom Yum soup, mushroom wontons (think crab Rangoon but mushrooms) , Phat Thai noodles, and the Same Same bowl. All of the food was good! Soup broth can use more depth of flavor but this is me being unreasonably picky . Noodles were spot on, and Same Same bowl was a refreshing rice / salad bowl I could eat any day of the week.
Fast, easy, and delicious! Great flavors and hit the spot on a cold night in Roscoe Village. Definitely would go back!
I am absolutely obsessed with this place. The shrimp spring rolls are fantastic and I will be ordering the Khao Soi Gai every week for the foreseeable future. It is incredible!! I tried it for the first time last night (having never tried Thai curry) and oh my god. It’s sweet, savory, the chicken is great, and the noodles are perfect! I had my 8 month old try a bite and he loved it too!! The papaya salad is also super good! I will absolutely be ordering from here again next week. Thank you!!
Plenty of seating when we arrived for dinner. Although there is a small bar inside we did not try any of the drinks. The atmosphere inside is very pleasant and a bit more upscale than most Thai restaurants. The menu is not terribly extensive by comparison, but we had no trouble finding our favorites. Surprisingly, the prices were for just the noodles and veggies for the phat kee mau, and the protein was a large cost more, so the prices were easily higher than other Thai restaurants. Nevertheless the food was quite good if not exactly the flavor we expected. Service was pleasant and attentive.
Don’t order papaya salad ours came delivery spoiled
I asked them to make it so hot I'd see my ancestors through my tears. They did not disappoint. Great Thai food!!
Great hidden gem of Roscoe Village. Cozy dark vibe- great date spot. Service was ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
if you like white hipster thai this is your place. no mushrooms in the tom yum soup, curries had a very thin watery broth and beef was tough people packed in like sardines and the music is too loud. the drinks were good but the wine pour was pathetic for $16.
One of my go-to spots. Warm and cozy every time!
I loved it all! From the food to the atmosphere, everything was wonderful. That was my first time trying Thai food and I don't regret it!
P.S. Thank you so much Kristina and Carlos for taking us there!
Two stars are for the friendly service and cool atmosphere. The food wasn’t “bad” per se, but utterly disappointing. I got the Same Same bowl and added steak. The fresh veggies were fresh. The small ramekin of ginger peanut sauce was tasty, but the steak was so overdone. Cooked till it was grey. Two hours later and my jaw is still sore from chewing. And there’s really only one way I like to make my jaw sore ;-]
My wife got the Penang curry with tofu. She got exactly 8 oz of curry sauce, which she likened to slightly spicy cereal milk. Thin, flat, and way too sweet. It came with 4 thinly sliced pieces of tofu, a few pieces of green bell pepper, and way too many bamboo shoots.
Shame on us for not sticking to our Thai go-tos in Uptown or on the South Side.
Rude staff
Great Thai spot - super friendly service and solid food.
We loved their crispy fried chicken. The shallot topping was flavorful and the sticky rice was really soft. I also recommend their fried rice. About the curry, the crispy noodle was good but it was so little, the rest are soft noodle. So only order it if you really into curry.
Love going to Same Same! They now have gluten free menu indications on their online menu. Before they did this, I was getting conflicting information from the waiters in regards to gluten free options. I usually get the Thai green curry which is excellent! My friends and family have tried most other dishes and they are always excellent as well.
My current favorite restaurant in Chicago. Everything is delicious. It's hard to not want to go every week.
The food is amazing! The service was amazing! And the patio is great. Spicy and perfect. A great date night spot even if you have kids that love trying new things.
Very blah. Flavors were seriously lacking. I love Thai and if I was blindfolded and fed the food I would never have guessed it was Thai. There was no basil in sight which is an obvious sin. No mint, no nothing. A poor demonstration of Thai. Service was fine.
Delicious food and great service. Would come back!
This place is adorable!
The cocktails were surprisingly unique- really enjoyed the Monkey Business and the Short Round.
We had a few of the snacks and the steak dish. Absolutely no complaints.
I've been twice and both times the server was kind and attentive. It started to fill up towards the end of our meal the second time but we did not feel rushed at all.
There's a big patio out back that we'll be back to check out in the summertime!
You can get a couple drinks and split food here and only be out about $50 per person which is a great deal if you ask me!
Wow! Such an enjoyable and unique experience for dinner in Roscoe Village! If you have a taste for delicious Thai food or really yummy fried chicken and want some fun ambiance, super friendly staff (thank you Hannah and Anna:) and a funky playlist for date night or any night, this is the place!!! They also have a great outdoor patio and cocktails!
Best fried chicken I've had in a long time with a lot of competition. Highly recommended to locals and visitors, well worth the trip
Overpriced....3 bowls of Thai food & 3 drinks over $100 with tip.
Because it's on Roscoe maybe?
Maybe the chili pepper on the menu means the food is "seasoned".
I guess the pricepoint reflects the neighborhood because this wasnt $17 phat kee mao.
This is a great restaurant. Seating area is small but they do have a back patio when the weather is nice. Food is incredible and service was outstanding.
Best Asian cuisine in the area, how can you screw this up? Go here!!
I drive out from the suburbs for the food here! Especially the Pad Thai and rib tips! Can’t find authentic Thai food like Same Sames, where I live. Delicious food and friendly staff. Definitely a favorite of mine!
Been here before and loved the food but service was sadly horrible tonight. Arrived and was told no one was ahead and we’d be seated when the next party left. A party of 2 left a 4 top and we expected to be seated. However a part of 5 came in 10-15 mins after us and were prioritized before us. We were then directed to the bar for seating, which was taken as soon as suggested. The male host made excuses about having to prioritize larger parties which felt very dismissive and unfair to people who were already waiting. The bartender agreed that we should’ve gotten priority. For a place that doesn’t take reservations, they should really ensure they’re committing to fair seating practices. We had later plans that weren’t taken into consideration since it was just assumed that we could just continue to wait.
Honestly, not good food, don't understand the many positive reviews. Maybe ordering take out had something to do with this?
My panang curry was 95% undercooked bell peppers, and bland sauce. Sorry to say, but I wouldn't consider eating here again. Perhaps in person it is better.
Fun ambiance! We loved the fries, Phat Kee Mao, and My Thai slushies.
I have been multiple times and the service and quality of food has been excellent each time. The restaurant is very tiny and the vibe and music makes for a really cozy night out. I’ve tried multiple dishes and loved all of them. I particularly love the curry and their fries.
Loved it!! The food was amazing and our server was the best! My friends and I loved the environment and well definitely be coming back!
Chris and his team at Same Same exemplify the integrity of hospitality. Immediately you can feel at home here. Between the quality cocktails and knockout authenticity in their Thai dishes this establishment shares not just great atmosphere but the heart of what it truly means to have a place to escape and feel the comforts of life and community. Thank you all for knocking it out of the park just by doing what you love and being yourselves. So stoked to come back! ❤️🙏
Had carryout a few times, and dined outdoor post vaccine. The back patio is awesome! Really good curry and don't miss the spicy fries.
Good for Takeout.
Great Thai food in a small eclectic space. Great for carry out as well
Worst Thai food I have ever had in my life.
Small but wonderful buisness with kind staff great food and personaly great music rotation. Thankfull for leftovers as portion sizes are generous
I LOVED my food. I picked the phat kee mao. It was DELICIOUS. Flavorful!!!
Our group shared the wok peanuts. They were good but flavor was disappointingly subtle.
The waitress was attentive and the place has a nice atmosphere
Here’s why I gave it a 4. My partner got the hat Yai chicken. He said it was dry and the sauce saved it enough. He was especially disappointed considering the price.
The Khao Soi Gai is amazing! Full of tons of flavor! Service is great! Would recommend!
The staff is always so welcoming and attentive! Everything on their menu is wonderful as well, especially love their cocktails. Could not recommend this place enough!
Really good Thai food. I have had better but this place was solid. The vibe is great, there's some neat art work and lighting. The menu has some good variety. I would go back and try more. The panang curry was solid.
I get the green curry made vegan here, and it is amazing!
Really great atmosphere and the food was good but not the best thai food I've had. Also the portion sizes for the price were lacking a bit.
Great little spot in Roscoe Village. Tasty without overpowering flavors. Service is really good as well.
Great food, great drinks, great atmosphere, it’s just a gamble to come if you don’t live close. It’s pretty limited seating, you can’t add your name to a list, if you show up and they’re busy you just have to continue down Roscoe and find a different place to eat. Not a huge deal, but if you traveled from other parts of town it’s disappointing.
Same
Fantastic food and good service. :)
YUM!! I ordered the Khai Soi and Papaya salad and they were both so good. The fernet slushie (not sure if it’s always on the menu) was so tasty. Also the bartender and other staff were all super friendly!
Love the name because I always order the same thing whenever I go here.
Their inside was too light for me. I don't like the color of their light. It looks too hot inside. So I prefer to sit outside since they have outdoor dining. But if you want to have a drink you can stay inside. They have a lot of dishes on their menu to choose from. The first dish that I tried was their Phat Thai. It has a weird look. It doesn't look tasty but you will be curious to taste it. It has noodles, peanuts, lemon and some meat. When I taste it it's weird. It's good but not the best. I also tried 3 pieces of Hat yai, Chinese broccoli, Vietnamese wings and a mocktail. They have a good taste. I love their Chinese broccoli. I love veggies, that's why I like it. I'm so happy that I enjoy the food here. I will go here again next time if I'm not busy.
Good service ...great staff who are super friendly.
Chicken was superb...nice and crispy.
Flank steak was well cooked.
Nice place with a nice atmosphere.
Really really good food and drinks (I tried the my Thai slushy, monkey business, khao soi gai, and combo fried chicken)! Loved their outdoor seating and they provided the sweeeetest customer service. Every employee that we interacted with was genuinely kind and helpful even though it was busy
UPDATE: I tried this place again because I live very close and had a fantastic experience! I got the green curry and it was devine. We also had exceptional service. I think the first time I went they just had a bad day. I now definitely recommend this place.
I had the Phat Kee Mao with chicken and the flavors were off and not enjoyable. Probably my least favorite Thai dish I've ever had. It also took forever to get our drinks and they didn't all come out at once (3 drinks, one was a can of beer). The service was okay and the ambiance was nice (except for the screaming children, but that wasn't Same Same's fault). Honestly wouldn't recommend.
Same same is SO GOOD! Ironically the owners of the restaurant are our new neighbors so we thought we’d give it a try. Holy smokes, so so yummy. The Papaya salad was out of this world as well as the Paht Kee Mao might be the best I have ever had. The prices were really reasonable and I had plenty of leftovers to take home! We’re excited to have a new go to Thai spot!
The place has a good vibe and an additional star for the bar keeper/waiter who practically seemed to be managing the entire restaurant.
Very limited veg options, and the food was average.
Food is legit! Clearly homemade with imported Thai ingredients - US produce doesn’t reach the notes you get in these dishes. Chris the owner is super charming and helpful. Can’t wait to come back.
Wonderful curries and all around great Thai fusion food and drinks. Always exceptionally polite staff and a fresh ambience. Quality is not sacrificed when doing takeout/delivery vs dining in.
Not your regular takeout Thai spot, this is Thai food executed at a high level.
I'm halfway through my pad Thai and had to leave a review, it's that good. I'm not accustomed to rating food so don't have the words, and also I want to get back to it so just trust me and buy the pad Thai.
It's the best Thai food in Chicago hands down. Good cocktails too.
I got the Khao Soi Gai, never had it before, it was amazing! Excellent service and not long of a wait for a Saturday night. The drinks were delicious and strong!
Amazing food and drinks, great atmosphere, polite and friendly staff! Highly recommend!
Great and spicy.
5 stars for great service, ambience and food! Really fun and relaxed. A plus for a fun cocktail list. The girls behind the bar were so sweet and attentive!!
Best food and service ever
Very nice atmosphere and friendly staff as well as owner even personally checked on us :) I had the Phat Si Ew and its delicious I suggest adding tofu!
cute place and great food!
Great food and service. Def will be back.
Excellent restaurant with a great vibe. The owners have a really cool story and philosophy behind the restaurant - the food has a real soul to it.
If Only I can give zero stars. A friend recommended same same for the chicken dish.
Until we went and had inadequate service.
Inattentive and rude wait staff. Overcooked food and poor service.
Go somewhere else!
Nice atmosphere, great food, friendly staff.
The food quality is excellent! It was an amazing dinner, our first time here. We experimented. We had panang curry, Neua Naam Tok, Khao Soi Gai and Sii Khrong Muu Yang. All prepared like a 5 star kitchen.. it was BAM with flavor and spices but not over done.. the service was excellent and personal... the Thai ice tea was also refreshing and perfection... I cant wait to come back and work my way thru their menu!
I’d say any Thai place is better than this. The flavors are not there. It was a very lame tasting experience with every dish missing authenticity. The house drinks and the seasoned fries were the bigger disappointments. The fries were just covered on a ton of tajín and the cumin drink tasted like soup.
OUTSTANDING! Won tons and pad Thai are out of this world.
My boyfriend and I love eating here. The food and drinks are great, great service and cute decor.
Excellent food and place, service is great!
Best Thai and cocktails we've had
Deep flavor and not overdone. Nice tasty dishes and nice place to come and hang and have some drinks.
10/10. Owner is such a nice guy, & their frozen mai tai was DELICIOUS. Strong but tasteful
Amazing cocktails and food!
So so so GOOD!
When you're here, you're family
Love this restaurant! Excellent food, drinks and staff! A real neighborhood gem!
Affordable Thai bites in Roscoe Village. Hat Yai fried chicken and spicy fries were delicious. Felt like thai flavors mixed with southern/soul cooking. Very tasty.
The best Pad Thai I have had in Chicago!
The khao phat muu krob with the chili sauce is absolutely incredible. Didn’t try any cocktails, just had the Chang lager. Cold and refreshing while sitting on the patio in the back. I will absolutely come back here and bring more people next time. 10/10 would recommend.
Friendly staff, food was good. Too many other great Thai options
The food smelled so good but was only there for drinks. Sounded like a new bartender, the drinks were not great. Would go back for food for sure and probably try drinks again.
Green mango sticky rice so bad..... as u can imagine eating a dessert with cereal.... the curry is as sweet as syrups. My wife (Asian cis woman) claim this to be the worst Thai of her life.:(
The perfect Thai place with each dish made perfectly. Amazing ambience too.
Must try the chicken wings!
Sick
Super cute interior! But pretty costly and far from the best Thai in the neighborhood
Perfect little dinner spot. Spicy fries were fantastic! Khee Mao was flavorful, spicy & came out super hot.
Pretty good for my first try. Will definitely check out again
Great food! Enjoyed everything. Randomly decided to try their spicy french fries and... they were amazing! Panang Curry was what I got and thoroughly enjoyed it. Will be trying em again!
Order from here a few times and was always pleased. Last night (a subzero Saturday night) I placed an order. After about 10 minutes after my delivery time had passed, the restaurant called me saying that the Door Dash driver was running behind (understandable, as no one wanted to go out and pick up their own food) and that our food had sat out for a little bit. They remade our order, and within 15 minutes of the phone call we had piping hot freshly fried chicken and wontons. On a freezing Chicago night, I don't know what's better. A++++ customer service and the food was so delicious!
