Your safety is our priority, we follow all safety guidelines and regulation. Love you and hope to see you soon.
I went to this place for dinner with friends, and we started with a few appetizers. The papaya salad was incredibly fresh and delicious, and the chicken stews were well-marinated. The pig foot rice was amazing too. The whole place had an authentic vibe, with Thai music playing in the background. The coconut pudding was also very good. We will definitely come back to try more dishes and highly recommend this place!
A Thai friend recommended JJ to me and I'm glad I listened because everything I had here was amazing. The Thai papaya salad was generously piled on the plate, with the papaya strands perfectly absorbing the sauce—well-seasoned but not soggy. The yum hed (grilled mushroom salad) was an absolute flavor bomb. The mushroom was grilled to meaty perfection, soaking up all the addictively tangy and spicy dressing, and topped with crunchy toasted rice. Gai yang (grilled marinated whole chicken) boasted a layer of crisp, golden skin with excellent char and juicy, fall-off-the-bone tender meat. It was tasty enough on its own, but when dipped into their house spicy dipping sauce, it became mind-blowingly delicious. Service was warm, polite, and efficient.
This has become a favorite thai food spot for me due to its quality ingredients, presentation, taste, ambiance and service.
The thai crispy wings with their special dipping sauce is some of the best wings in the city. Its moist, steaming hot and super crunchy. And its fairly priced.
The tiger cry marinated grilled ribeye is excellent compared to other restos. Its smokey and charred and pairs well with the slaw. Douse the sauce all over the steak and slaw which gives it a nice tanginess.
Lastly, had the bbq pork over egg noodle with kale and garnished with a wonton chip. The unbrothed noodles with scallions and oil was a perfect pairing to the bbq pork.
The ambiance was buzzing for a lunch in late the week and the service was prompt and friendly.
Definitely will be a new fave spot!!
J.J. Thai Street Food is a small, bustling restaurant along West Town’s busy W Chicago St serving up classic Thai street food staples. Try to make a reservation for popular dining times— my friends and I forgot to do so and waited ~45 min for a spot on a Friday night. The space is small and intimate, with limited seating.
I tried the following dishes:
- SP3 Tum Khao Pho (Corn Salad): This had a flavor profile similar to papaya salad— quite spicy and a little sour.
- A9 Gui Chay Tod (Tapioca Dumplings with Chives): This was really good— they make the tapioca skin crispier and stickier / more glutinous than many Thai places, which I really liked. The chive flavor was just right and not overpowering.
- N4 Bamee Hang Moo Daeng (Egg noodles with BBQ Pork without broth): A simple staple dish, these noodles were nice and buttery but overall the flavor was kind of lacking. I think I would’ve preferred noodles with broth, so that’s on me… the flavor and fullness just felt incomplete without a hearty broth.
Most entrees are between $14-18. Although I wasn’t wowed, I haven’t seen too many specialized Thai street food spots in Chicago, and I’d definitely be down to come again to try other dishes on the sizable menu!
Used to love JJ’s, but the prices are high and the portions are minuscule. Ordered the SP2 Yum Hed mushroom dish ($17) and the E1 Nam Tok Neua Yan ($19), and got a to-go container that was maybe 1/4 full for each. There was a some inedible gristle in the ribeye.
It might have been better received if rice came with the dishes (as was described— but apparently it’s a few rice pieces as a garnish). It doesn’t. As delicious as the flavor is, it’s hard not to feel like you just got ripped off. It’s just so much money for so little food. It’s a bummer.
Visiting and wanted Thai and heard this place recommended. Overall not too impressed.
Had r3, crispy chicken with ginger spicy sauce. It was hard to tell from pics for me, but it’s a breading similar to what you’d see on almond boneless chicken or sweet and sour chicken at Chinese places, not a Panko breading. It was fine, just underwhelming. Also thought the rice was a little mushy, but maybe that’s the nature of long grain rice
Friend had the crispy pork belly with basil which was better than mine. Not the best I’ve tried, but hardly the worst
Portions good for lunch, but on the smaller side for Thai places
Bottom line: No frills, delicious, authentic Thai food.
Been getting take out from JJ's for a while and we finally made the time to dine in. What a great experience! Not only is their menu much expanded, but the freshness makes a difference! So many flavorful dishes and it's the sort of place that makes you want to try everything on the menu.
The atmosphere was casual and filled with a buzz. They've also received a note from the Thai consulate to recognize their authenticity. So, if you're looking for a bit of Thailand in Chicago, here's your place.

The place is really small - so they're is usually a wait if you go during peak times.
The food was tasty and we got to try a good variety of dishes we hadn't tried before. The portions are on the slightly smaller side (we ordered what we thought was too much, but it turned out to be just the right amount). It's not the best Thai food I've had, but it's pretty good.
R3 is one of my favorite dishes in the city. Great service and great food,
Always a huge fan of this place. Great authentic good at a reasonable price. So glad they survived the pandemic closures around West Town.
The vibes is great and the foods are even better ☺️. Great place to be!

They made a mistake packaging our take out orders but agreed to deliver the correct items. That is good service. I expected the sticky rice custard have coconut sauce instead of dry. The chicken wings are good. The crispy pork belly is only ok.
I went today. The food was good but they allowed a customer to put a electronic scooter in a dangerous place. My wife hit his knee with the scooter because it was in a hidden place. She is still in pain. They didn’t say sorry or anything

Though it looks like an ordinary small restaurant, the quality of the food and service is terrific. Highly recommended.
Arguably some of THE BEST food in Chicago. Consistently good, flavorful, amazing service and reasonably priced. You cannot beat this place.
My boyfriend and I frequent JJ constantly. The papaya salad, chicken wontons, crispy chicken with basil and the egg noodles with fried tofu, NEVER DISAPPOINTS. I’ve never been disappointed by anything I’ve ordered, even when it’s really busy, the quality maintains. Not to mention Paul is the best server! So kind, attentive and courteous.
My go-to for consistently delicious Thai street food.
Amazing food! Loved everything about this place. I would go here everyday if I lived nearby!

This is one of the best restaurants I've been to in a while. Every vegetarian dish we ordered was veryyyy delicious. The service was top notch. The staff were very friendly and very attentive. I can see this place becoming a lot more popular within the next year. It's a small space, but the space was well utilized. I rarely leave reviews, but this place definitely deserves to be recognized. I will be adding this place to my list of go-to spots!
If you're looking for authentic Thai food at a reasonable price, this place should definitely be on your list! The dishes were packed with flavor, and the quality of the food was fantastic for what you pay.
Dining in was a great experience—cozy and inviting. The only thing to keep in mind is that the place is pretty small, so it can get busy quickly. Despite that, the service was smooth, and it was a pleasant atmosphere overall.
I’ll definitely be coming back for more! If you love Thai food, this is a spot worth checking out.
The street food, which accordingly to the waitress is very authentic, was disappointing, and it wasn't street prices. Very expensive for what it is.
Maybe to the next thai restaurant down the street next time.
delicious thai with both staples and specialty menu options. staff is super friendly and atmosphere is cozy! coconut pudding dessert is a must try!
Amazing hard to find northern thai food. Love the sai krok isaan
You should wait eternity for your order
Best Thai food in Chicago. Flavours on point!
We love JJ Thai and would go a few times a month. The menu is geared towards street foods. Some of our favorites are the basil seafood or chicken rice, mushroom salad and fried squid. The coconut desserts are also tasty. The wait staff are always so friendly and kind. Go during lunch if you can because it can get crowded during dinner. Highly recommend!
My boyfriend and I absolutely love this place. He worked in the food industry for a long time so we have done a fare share of eating in this city, and this is one of our all time favs. This is the only place we've come to two nights in a row lol. Our go to dishes are the papaya salad, fried shrimp rolls, grilled beef salad (E-SAAN), and crispy chicken salad (E-SAAN). Everyone is so nice and the place is very cute too!
We had an amazing dinner here!
One of the few times in my life where I was surprised at the blandness of Thai cuisine.
Always loved JJ been eating here for 5 years. Food remains excellent.
Incredible food. Couldn’t recommend more. Has been a favorite and go to spot
Service and hospitality was great. The food was amazing. Would definitely add this to the list of places to stop in at.
Amazing authentic Thai food with very quick and efficient service. The servers were very attentive without being too overbearing. Love the inside of the place😍
I ate here with some friends a few weeks ago and needed to leave a review because I can’t stop thinking about the fried tofu dish we ordered, the Khao Lard Ka Praw Tao Hoo. I can’t recommend it enough. Super crispy and great with the sauce. I’ve never had tofu like it before and I’ll definitely be back soon to have it again.
Visiting and wanted Thai and heard this place recommended. Overall not too impressed.

Portions good for lunch, but on the smaller side for Thai places
We’ve been coming here for years dining in and taking out. The food is consistently excellent and authentic.
Thank you JJ team for being our go to Thai restaurant!
The food is too sweet. Thai food should not be this sweet but desert is great.
I love this place. Tasty food and very nice staff.
We came as party of two and the waitress told us to leave the contact and wait for about half an hour. However, we waited for more than 1 hour and saw all people before us went in. We checked with them several times after seeing they serve for people who came after us but they always said: next table will be yours. Waste of your time to come here and the inside environment is super crowded and noisy
Do not come here if you are a party of 2 because - they will seat any other party size who even joined the waitlist after you. Even there had 2 seats come available, they had no problem keeping you waiting and wasting your time, and seated other party of 3 or 4 who came later than us! Time wasted and poor service experienced.
If my wallet could handle eating JJ everyday, I would. Their takeout prep and timeliness is the best I've ever experienced from any restaurant. I actually haven't done dine-in yet, but the restaurant always has a very lively atmosphere. Staff is super friendly and attentive.
Great food, however they have forgotten parts of my online order.
Ngl.. ordered carry out and the quality of the food was pretty freaking good but the portions left me less than satiated. Im not a glutinous person by far and I felt the portions left more for taste. Maybe a dine in restaurant for experience and presentation. The coconut pudding was bite sized but legit. Wish I would have taken it photos.
Some of the best Thai food I've had in the city! I have had at least 8 dishes, and every single one was a hit. MUST try the mushroom salad and the chive dumplings!
One of the best places to eat in Chicago!!! Out of this world food, great staff, and fantastic atmosphere!!
Great flavours! They offer a whole fresh coconut as part of their drinks that you can eat up. Everything we ordered was good!
This restaurant was recommended to me by a coworker. I visited here with my sister for a quick lunch date but we were both pretty disappointed with the options. First off we order Thai ice tea, flavor was decent but the glass was full with 80% of ice even though we asked for light ice. Then we got the beef curry noodle which was very flavorful to me, however my sister with a different taste bud complained of it being too salty. Another dish we ordered was the pork rice plate which I enjoyed very much but the portion they give is small given the price. The shrimp roll appetizer was delicious and we both loved.
One of my favorite Thai restaurants in the city. Everything I tried was really good including the crispy basil chicken and crab fried rice. Will definitely go back
A great spot for Thai food. Portion sizes are a smaller than most places. Seasoning and flavors were good. Had 3 different dishes and all were tasty.
Most authentic Thai restaurant I have been to in awhile. I was blown away by the flavors, customizable heat levels, and recs from the staff.
We had been there years ago and they were able to still make some of our favorites that were no longer on the menu!
I think it's the best Thai food in Chicago.
My mom (born and raised in Thailand) said that the beef dishes at JJ's were the best that she can remember having and she is sad that she can't find beef as good where she lives.
She lives in Bangkok.
The best!!!
Very good food (authentic Thai cuisine according to my friend from Thailand). Friendly service.
probably my favorite meal of the trip, a small cozy space. the waitress was very efficient and also gave great recommendations. I got R9, crispy pork belly basil with rice and it was so good, the pieces are fatty and the outside was crispy while soft on inside. I think there were another type of sausage mixed in as well, which gave a different texture and flavor. I've never had this in other thai restaurants and i was really happy with the choice. definitely recommend
Delicious food, great service, fair prices.
Thai sausage and papaya salad were the best I’ve had in the city and really good price for the amount of food served.
JJ is our favorite place to go. We have been coming here for lunch and dinner like forever. This place offers a variety of popular Thai street food dishes and they are all heavenly delicious. Note: Try their Khao Kha Moo and Fried Tofu Salad (Nam Tok), you can't go wrong with those!
Would definitely go again. Good price for the quantity and quality of the food. Enjoyed their grilled whole chicken and soup beef noodle and Tom Yum soup. FYI, you can bring your own alcohol there.
Solid, and it’s BYOB too
Amazing food! Will definitely come back to try more stuff.
Food is good here. But the location of the restaurant is so unfriendly to people with car. You have to go round and round to search for a parking spot and there is no parking garage nearby. So think clearly if you want to drive here.
Great little spot for Thai. Had a few different dishes. Wings and grilled squid were great!
Authentic and yummy Thai food
The chive dumplings and papaya salad are AMAZING. The Cornish hen is also perfect. Never have had a bad dish here. Waitstaff is also super friendly, attentive, and kind.
Amazing, unique Thai food. BYOB too. Highly recommend!
My boyfriend and I are obsessed with this place. Every thing we've ever ordered has been STRAIGHT BANGIN'. I agree with other reviewers that this isn't the typical american thai place. There are menu items for both adventurous and cautious eaters. Staff are sweet and helpful. If the menu suggests adding a crispy fried egg, for the love of god: do it. also: do not sleep on the desserts.
I love this place. It's not the typical Thai food Americans are used to, it's better. So no pad Thai or pad see ew type dishes.
The soups warm the soul and the texture of the rice is perfect. Every dish is perfectly seasoned with the most unique, delicious spices. Try everything, but my personal favorite is the N6, egg noodles with BBQ pork.
I love this place. Khao lard ka praw tao hoo (basil tofu with rice) is my go-to. The tofu is perfectly crispy on the outside and soft inside. And the basil sauce is so good.
This is my gold standard for a neighborhood restaurant- good experience all around dine in, take out, delivery or otherwise.
Terrible Experience. It is the first time I have encountered a waitress like this, soooo rude, she can ruin your night. I will never come back.
The environment is bad, you are sitting right next to others and you are basically in their kitchen, which means you hair and clothes will get all the smells.
The service is horrible, took us an hour to get everything we ordered. Of course, no one is going to add water to your glasses.
Awful experience, bad environment, no service, small portion of food, never come back.
I had an awful experience at this restaurant, and I highly recommend that you never choose to dine in here because the waitress is so rude and impolite. We were a group of three and ordered a lot of food; the meal lasted less than 2 hours. Here is our experience:
1. During dinner, the waitress tried to take my friend's plate away to stop her from eating, even though we havn't finished at all and had a lot left on the plate.
2. She came to us and said, "It's so funny you guys had dinner for 2 hours."
3. When we asked for a few boxes for the leftovers, she said, "Let me help you package the leftover; otherwise, you guys are going to take an hour."
4. We were about to leave with another takeout order, and we asked her if that was ready; she said, "You guys are in a hurry now?"
🌶️ If you're tired of the same old Thai routine, JJ Thai Street Food in Chicago is your ticket to an exotic culinary escapade. Bid farewell to the standard pad Thai because this place ventures into uncharted territories with a menu bursting with unique, delicious offerings.
🍜 Opting for takeout, we embarked on a flavor journey that exceeded expectations. From the first bite to the last, each dish showcased the restaurant's commitment to delivering a true taste adventure. The freshness and quality were evident, even in the absence of a dine-in experience.
🌶️ Now, let's talk spice – JJ Thai Street Food has mastered the art. The dishes are perfectly spicy, striking that elusive balance where heat enhances rather than overwhelms the flavors. It's a testament to the skill in the kitchen.
🥡 Located in the heart of Chicago, JJ Thai Street Food stands out as a haven for those seeking a departure from the ordinary. If you're ready to elevate your Thai food game, this place is a must-visit. Exotic, delicious, and with the perfect amount of spice – JJ Thai Street Food is a culinary gem in the city. 🌶️🥢
I went in with high expectations because of great reviews, but I left with a sore experience. We had the Tiger Cry steak and the Crab Fried Rice. The fried rice was good portion and tasted great even if the amount of crab fell short. The steak however was a cheap $5 cut that wasn’t very filling.
Service was also shabby as we got probably the worst seats in the place, right by the kitchen and bathroom. We asked to be moved to one of the other various open seats but one of the female staff kept saying no and gave us a dirty look.
Everything is good.
The food is very nice and the service is extremely fast. We really liked the crab meat fried rice, the calamari, and the sticky rice dessert.
The food was very good, isn't it? It can scan menu on the table. That was nice. Also the waiter was very friendly to us. Love this Street Food and I wish that this Street Food restaurant will be the popular restaurant forever. Thank you so much.
disappointed, this is not the first time,it is the second time I drove there and then I found it closed. I tried to call, but no answer , because I Saw their staff didn't answer the phone before, I just thought that they were busy ,anyway wouldn't come again.
The place has a really cool vibe that goes well with the Thai street food theme. But the food has this incredible homey feel, as if your grandma just threw something together for you, every bit as tasty as you'd imagine! The food is delicious, the portions are well sized and the prices are reasonable, what more could you ask for? Plus you can definitely spice things up to eye watering levels if you prefer that sort of thing
Do Not Get Tricked by The Simple Name of Street Food Thai Name, This Small Heaven In Chicago Delivers Outstanding Quality Food, Chef, Tina Brings to Us her Native Cuisine, Along with the Friendliest Servers, The Experience has Always Been Nothing Short of Delicious. Our favorites are Papaya Salad, RibEye Tiger Cry, Warm Corn Salad, BBQ Roasted Hen is to Die for, if you get there Early Enough Order the Fried Chicken, Fresh Coconut and a Refreshing ThaiTea.
Went to JJ’s for dinner and went back the next day for lunch. Papaya salad, chicken wings, and basil chicken are a hit!
R5. Khao Kaa Moo | Braised Pork Over Rice -must try!! Outdoor seating in the summer too!
This place is amazing! Some of the best Thai food I have had. Not your typical Thai restaurant menu either, with so many interesting and delicious options. An absolute 10/10 establishment.
JJ Thai Street Food is a hidden gem I stumbled upon while exploring Ukrainian Village, and while it may not have completely won me over as a Thai food enthusiast, it certainly had its highlights.
First and foremost, the service at JJ Thai Street Food deserves a standing ovation. The staff was attentive, friendly, and genuinely passionate about sharing their cuisine. They made the dining experience enjoyable from start to finish.
The atmosphere in the restaurant is wonderfully chill, providing a comfortable setting to savor your meal. The aroma of the food wafting through the air had my taste buds tingling with anticipation.
Now, let's talk about the food. I decided to order a variety of dishes. The grilled squid was decent, though it didn't quite bowl me over - but hey, maybe grilled squid just isn't my thing.
The homemade chicken balls, on the other hand, didn't quite tickle my taste buds the way I'd hoped. Taste is subjective, and while some may love them, they didn't align with my palate.
However, there was a shining star in my meal - the basil seafood with rice. It was a delightful explosion of flavors, with the perfect balance of spice and freshness. If I were to visit JJ Thai Street Food again, this dish would definitely be at the top of my list.
In conclusion, JJ Thai Street Food offers a pleasant dining experience with impeccable service and a charming atmosphere. While not every dish may have been to my taste, the basil seafood alone makes it worth a return visit for those craving authentic Thai flavors.
A small restaurant yet very nice and filled with great authentic Thai food, service, and atmosphere. I’m Thai living in Denver and couldn’t find any authentic Thai food there. This place is on top of everything. Will be flying out here just to dine in here! Also, I love how clean it is and the servers are nice and really helpful with the orders!
Food: I’ve been to JJ Thai Street about 5 times now, and every single time the food is on point. Love their authentic, no fuss dishes. The first time we went, there were four of us, and we ended up ordering 12 dishes because it was all so flavorful! Thai iced tea is super refreshing for a summer day. Squid is perfectly crispy. Pork belly is an absolute must-have every time. If you want something vegetarian and healthy, their papaya salad is the way to go. You really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu.
Service: I’ve never made a reservation, even on a weekend night, and the wait was never over 20 min. Service is very efficient and friendly.
Atmosphere: Cozy little restaurant with limited seating both indoors and outdoors.
The chicken meatballs are to die for.
Nice atmosphere for a behind the scenes feel for dining. Polite wait staff. Clean place. Unfortunately the food was just Ok.
Me and my girlfriend was there for the time. Everything was fine until the waitress (GIRL) came over took our orders. She tried to tell us about the restaurant’s new salad instead of regular salad
(papaya salad). So I made a joke with the waitress (GIRL) by asking her: IS THAT NEW SALAD FREE? Immediate she turned her heat on and walked quite fast away without any worlds. She left us at the table for about 5-6 MINUTES with our stomachs growling. We both didn’t know why she gave us her attitude and treated us like that. That was unacceptable for services. SHE RUINED OUR SATURDAY NIGHT. IT WAS QUITE DISAPPOINTED!
They are not clean , worst place
Everything was got was so delicious. Every spice and sauce was perfect and left us wanting more. It is a small spot so make sure to plan for that. Thai iced tea might be the best I have had.
We got a iced coffee, papaya salad, tom yum soup, pork belly rice, chicken noodle soup, and egg custard sticky rice and it came out to $70 pre-tip. The food were all great. The rice dish could have had more rice and been hotter (it was a bit lukewarm when served). Service was amazing. We were greeted with great smiles. Will be coming back!
Some of the best Thai food I've had in Chicago
Casual Thai restaurant that serves street-style food rather than your traditional Thai food. It was packed even though we went on a Monday evening. Its relatively small inside and only a few tables outdoor. They also have a BYOB policy. The savory and spicy tones are not describable — like traditional Thai cuisine on flavor steroids. The tofu was hella crispy and the spices tray elevated it even more. The bua loy puak dessert tasted like warm, sweet coconut milk with taro and the kha non mor kaeng was a thick eggy custard cake with similar sweet taro flavors. Highly recommend this restaurant for people who like Thai cuisine.
Our favorite place for papaya salad and grilled squid. We loved everything on their menu- lots of spicy items which was perfect for us. They even accommodated our little one with a high chair. Staff was super nice and atmosphere inviting - will be back again soon to try other things on the menu.
Tiny portions. Dry chicken. Way overpriced. Lots of better Thai food in the area.
This place has really grown to something we really love. Chicago Tier level.
As a second-generation Thai, I almost cried during my meal here. I can't say enough about their street food authenticity; they serve water in the traditional metal cups you see in Thailand, complete with upbeat Thai music in the background and phenomenal food. Food was amazing and though I was full, I couldn't get enough of it. I have been searching for YEARS to find a very specific type of Isarn sausage in the US and I finally got the closest I ever had at JJ's. Don't skip out on dessert, either! I would sell my heart and soul to eat here everyday if I could.
Scrumptious!! The khao soi curry was thicker than I’m used to. Still absolutely delicious nonetheless. I wish they had Leo or Singha and played Thai movies instead of american daytime gossip on the screen to bring the experience together. Regardless of me being nitpicky, I WILL BE BACK! 😍
From the appetizers to the main dishes, the food is absolutely delicious. The service is very kind and professional as well. Highly recommend!
I am a huge fan of JJ’s! They’ve become a staple for us, I’ve tried 50% of the menu and it’s all fantastic. Their sauces are downright delicious. Always get the garlic ginger rice, you won’t regret it!
Food is amazing. This is my go-to Thai food spot.
One of my favorites!
Good
Great Thai food
Very laidback
Worst. Service. Ever. Will not go back.
This place slaps, some of the best Thai food in Chicago
Superb food and extremely friendly staff.
Ordered basil pork and a thin noodle dish with pork I think. Both tasted pretty decent but the basil pork could have used more chilies or basil or something just to add a little more variety? Guess I might say the same for the noodles.
Also regrettably the portions are not big enough for leftovers, which is what we often order Thai food for (didn't see any curry on the menu)
All said, flavors were nice and may try again with some other dishes
Hands down the best restaurant in Chicago.
