We had such a wonderful time. We started with the fish patties. The patties had good chew and flavors to it, came with sweet pickled cucumber and carrot. Crispy rice salad was flavorful and the fermented pork sausage had nice flavor and texture. Laos Sausage were juicy and had a lot of flavors, definitely must eat it with the sauce. We also had yellow curry and it was DELICIOUS. The ground chilies went really good together with the curry and jasmine rice. Ong Choi had great crunch, the fried garlic was so fragrant and delicious. We closed the dinner with some mango sticky rice. Everything was on point. Service was really quick and attentive (I’m sorry I forgot your name but you are amazing!! Thank you so much). We made a reservation a day prior since they get busy during dinner time.
One of my favorite eats on the island, been coming here since they opened and they’ve always had impeccable decorations, warm service, and all the southeast asian flavors we crave after a week without. I love sitting by the koi pond and watching the turtles waddle about every so often.
My go-tos are crispy rice salad, eggplant, rad na (gravy chow fun) with very seasoned tofu, and their spicy manila clam stirfry. Your tongue will be tingling by the end of your meal but that’s what the sticky rice is for! 🤤🍚
This place never ceases to amaze! We ordered the pumpkin curry, nam khao (crispy rice salad), and Tom kha soup. IMO these are the best items on the menu and probably in my top five things to order on Oahu! They will not disappoint!
I recommend trying to sit outside because the ambiance is amazing and super fun! Do you
My friend and I love this place and we've come back several times. The atmosphere is exotic. Devas, Flowers, lights, and vines decorate the outdoor courtyard beautifully, and the waterfall, turtle pond, and, plants add a nice refreshing water element. The umbrellas and fans keep it nice and cool on a hot day. The food has always been 5 stars. My favorite dish is the red curry, which I always order with lots of vegetables and rice. The servings and service are generous.
I was so glad I found this restaurant in Chinatown serving authentic Thai and Laos cuisine. The service was prompt, and the food was both authentic and flavorful. The atmosphere was great, with a relaxing inner courtyard featuring a little pond. It was fun watching the turtles and koi fish swimming around while we waited for our food.
Olay’s Thai Lao Cuisine in Honolulu is a hidden gem known for its lively atmosphere, excellent service, and mouthwatering Thai and Laotian dishes.
The inviting outdoor patio, featuring lush greenery, a koi pond, and a tranquil waterfall, creates a perfect dining escape. Whether you’re craving flavorful Drunken Noodles, fragrant Tom Yum soup, or other authentic dishes, this spot delivers.
With its warm hospitality and BYOB policy, Olay’s is a must-visit for a delicious and memorable experience.

One of the best places on island, would rate them higher if I could. Have eaten here four times and five stars each time. Service is friendly and helpful, going out of their way to do things or make things right. Food is incredible - get the crispy rice salad omggggg. Patio is shaded and has lush garden vibe, pond and birds.

Ughh. Leaving 3 stars for food, since I've never got to try it. Ordered pickup through Uber Eats. Waited a few minutes after which I started driving, got there 20 minutes later, parked and noticed they cancelled the order 5 minutes before I got there. No call, no other notification, just email from Uber Eats.
Figured I'll go in and check anyway since I'm already there, maybe they are just out of one of the things or something - walked it, stood in front of the host table for 2-3 minutes. One employee sitting down just next to me didn't bother acknowledging me at all. 3-4 others in the back, also zero reaction. Mind you this was a good 45 mins after their opening time. Decided to leave at that point.
Well, you guys suck....Thanks for wasting 45 minutes of my time and effort.
Panang chicken was great.
Best Thai I've had on island so far
Delicious Thai Red Curry with Chicken!
Ann our waiter was so friendly, sweet and attentive. Ambiance Is beautiful at night and the food is very tasty. One of my best experiences in Oahu.
Excellent food, relaxing atmosphere, helpful service staff. We had beef larb, crispy rice salad, drunken noodles and pumpkin curry, plus steamed rice. All were tasty. Our server was helpful with selecting dishes, and had an upbeat manner. Don’t let the dive appearance discourage you, as there is a large open patio area in the back
This is super nice place hundred percent recommended we found like 90% of the people are locals, but it’s really good we had to serve was a mango rice really tasty and then Pun Pa face wrap was delicious as well
Excellent dining experience! All of the staff were friendly and helpful and made for a great evening! Delicious food and perfect spice levels. Patio seating was perfect! BYOB and make a reservation
Good food, and the wait staff was very knowledgeable! Great vegan and vegetarian options! The panang was one of the best peanut curries I've ever tried. The koi pond and garden dining area is a huge plus! I'm looking forward to going back!
Update: been back many times and still enjoy it!
Amazing hole in the wall restaurant with great atmosphere and great food
Horrible experience. Would recommend especially via resy. Resy told it’s ready. Restaurant told it’s not. Order with pickup 7 pm was not ready at 8:30 pm. Forgot 1 of 2 dishes. It’s in ghetto area. Thumbs down. No nearby parking space.
Very unassuming from outside, you enter a new world a you enter the rather spacious dining area. They have a wide variety of Thai food.
I recommend making a reservation as this place can get quite busy. We hoped to walk in but had to get our food to go due to multiple large parties having bookings. Anyway, the restaurant is charming and the staff we interacted with were all super nice. All three of the dishes we got were amazing and we can't wait to go back for a second visit (with a reservation this time).

Excellent food. The atmosphere is A+. I had a tofu and vegetable pad thai, fried calamari and a thai tea. I will come back again and try other food next time I visit Honolulu.
Really nice place. It's hard to tell what it looks like from the street. Outdoor covering makes rain a little challenging
An oasis hidden in Chinatown. Great food. An extensive menu. A fountain. What more can you ask for? Just delightful.
Super yummy Thai food! We were very pleased with everything, staff was friendly

Great open space with fun decor and a waterfall with koi and turtles on the patio. Very friendly waiters who kindly helped us clean up an accidental spill. The food is so good — you can’t go wrong with a stir fry or any of the noodle dishes. My favorite is the ginger tofu green bean wok fry. I ordered it spicy in a foolish attempt at bravery and it was so hot there were tears in my eyes, but the dish was so good that I finished every last bite. Flavorful, fresh, and vibrant food was delicious and I’m already looking forward to visiting again!
Good vibes. Mahalo!
just got off the phone with the manager named Rob.. He hung up on me and when I called him back and asked him if he was in the habit of hanging up on customers, he continued to be extremely rude and patronizing. All I wanted to know was how I could make an order online for delivery since Uber Eats was not working, He was verbally abusive and yelled at me several times..What a sad man, I really hope the owner or someone above him sees this because I truly love your restaurant.. I’ve been coming here since you opened and my family comes in for every special occasion.. However Employing someone like him is so unacceptable … All I wanted to do was order dinner for me and my family. Needless to say I will not be coming back, I spent my $150 at Bangkok Chef for dinner.. Please fire this sad little man, to be honest, I am afraid to order from your restaurant now because if Rob sees my order, I’m sure he’s going to spit in my food. That’s the kind of person he seems to be.
Great and delicious Thai and Lao food, I think their Lao food is better but both are great. I recommend their crispy rice salad, the flavors and textures are unreal and pair well with the Lao sausage or a nice curry. Courtyard is a beautiful place to dine and really is an oasis in chinatown. Parking can be rough but worth hunting in the area and walking.
The appetizer combination platter was good, but the other main dishes were just average or below average. The best dish was the Mussoman curry fish, and the braised pork belly was ok, but their "unique and special", Laotian bamboo was just too salty and tasteless. There were many nice vegetables in the stew but unfortunately it was inedible. Service was average but the outdoor courtyard has a nice ambiance. Just watch out because the outdoor flooring is very uneven and is covered with fake grass in places, so you can't see the potholes...
Ong choy w/shrimp was excellent.
Food took 1.5 hour to come out. The staff brought out the wrong dish and then no rice with the curry. 1 star experience due to their unapologetic attitude.
Same good food and atmosphere, but outrageous 4% fee if you're paying with a credit card. The place is already more expensive than many other, just as good places to include Phuket Thai on Cooke Street that don't have such a fee, so this really added insult to injury. To boot, 4% across board regardless of what card you use seems excessive as not every card type charges merchants that much. Sure, we avoid this fee by paying cash, but who carries that around these days? I certainly factored that into my tip when the bill came, and deducted some that amount from what I would have left as a tip, though I highly doubt that most do this.
We'll be back if we have guests in town due to the atmosphere mainly, but we're likely done eating there as locals in other situations.
Awesome restaurant, definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Hawai’i. The best mango sticky rice EVER and Ross is such a sweet and helpful staff member!! 10/10
An amazing hidden gem in china town! They have a beautiful back patio which is decorated in flowers 10/10 atmosphere! Will come again! super friendly staff!
Food was great. The service was HORRIBLE. Three different people told us that they would bring us water and never did. We had to ask different waiters for water. Also, we had to get up from our table to find someone to take our order after sitting for over 30 min.
TERRIBLE SERVICE. CAME IN TO PICK UP A PHONE ORDER. NO GREETING. NO ONE ASKED “HOW CAN I HELP YOU” TO DETERMINE IF I WAS HERE FOR A PICK UP OR DINE IN.
Incredible food
Friendly service
Super cool atmosphere
We were trying to make reservations. Went online on google and it would go to an error when we tried to put down a credit card so we couldn’t make a reservation. We called around 7 pm on a Sunday, went to voicemail. Called multiple times after that. Around 10 pm they answered and the guy says we are closed call tomorrow, couldn’t have just reserved something? Why is it so difficult to reserve? This attitude made us decide to go somewhere else.
I've never seen a menu as well catered to vegans and meat eaters alike. Almost every dish on the expansive menu can be veganised, and from those I tried, are incredibly tasty and rich in flavour. The backyard seating area is enchanting and well decorated. You'll want to stay a while! I would note that the portions are exceedingly large. For two people, two main dishes was too much.
Very good 👍
The green garden seating is amazing in that it’s so contrasting with the concrete street front. (Soothing waterfall and koi pond) the curry was tasty, ong Choi with tofu (very good) and pork belly (meh). The restaurant is short-staffed. I felt bad for the 2–3 servers trying to cover so many tables and guests.
Good restaurant but missing the original Thai taste.
Ordered pad Thai with shrimps and calamari: at the end the taste was too sweet and we started to feel a bit nauseated. I have been in Thailand various times and well, I know the difference.
Quantity was good, and service was perfect and attentive.
Soft drinks were good but I would prefer to have more options to choose from.
The place is nice for family and friends.
Cute restaurant with a neat patio. Food was absolutely wonderful, as was our sever. Be advised, apparently you are supposed to make reservations. The host was a bit wavering if they would still seat us or not- we were understanding and said we could go to another place for the night and make reservations another night, but he eventually sat us and said that we would have to be done eating by a certain time as another party was coming in. We agreed that was fine, however, the kitchen was so backed up, we hadn't even gotten our food for quite some time and the host kept asking us if we were almost done (still no food). There were a few open tables during our entire duration there and we obviously did not have any idea how backed up the kitchen is or is not - the host should know that. So all of his constant "are you almost done?" When we hadn't received food was a little frustrating, as we offered to simply come back another night. Our waitress was very nice though and told us not to rush.
Keiko is a wonderful service
she gave us some suggestions, the food was very delicious and sufficient quantities
Keiko was our server and was the best! She made the atmosphere and experience 100% better. All of her recommendations were so good. Thank you Keiko!!
WOW WOW WOW… I think I just ate at my new favorite Thai place in my life. Things we got are an absolute must: Thai papaya salad, crispy rice, drunken noodle, panang curry. Shared amongst 4 girls, we killed it. Come hungry and the portions are hearty. The vibe is so cute, feels like you’re in an outdoor jungle with a waterfall. The open air setting keeps it breezy. Plenty of seating for single, couple, groups, and large parties. Reservations are also an option. The food came out quickly and the service was great! Very pleased 12/10
I love this place
Tried to walk-in but they said there is waiting list and wait is about 30 minutes. When we went back to the shop 30 minutes later, we still had to wait 30 more minutes just to get a seat. Also, waitress said she will bring water but she did not come back for 10 minutes with the water. Couldn’t wait anymore so had to leave. Too afraid to find out how long the food is gonna take. It was bad experience.
Long wait, they told us to wait for 30min, which is fine we don’t mind waiting. But it took them 75min to have us seated. It was too packed. Didn’t take our orders for 30min. Waited for water 20min. Wasted 2hours of my life. Not worth the wait.
To keep it short, the food was subpar. We waited 15-20 mins for a table and we were excited given all the rave and traffic. But if you think they serve quality Thai food, you’re mistaken. Similar quality as Panda Express for Chinese.
Would I go back? No.
Bella's professionalism and genuine warmth made our meal memorable. It's rare to find a server who balances efficiency with such a personal touch. I highly recommend dining here and requesting Bella as your server for an exceptional experience. We love to comeback every time.
We loved our server, Bella. She was kind and really friendly We loved our experience and her so much! Highly recommend the pad Thai
Wonderful ambience by the koi pond — and the fans keep you cool while under the umbrellas. The menu selection is outstanding. BYOB but a liquor store is right next door! Ajia was our server. A sweetie!
Food is good but way too expensive especially for the locale (Hotel St but you’re paying Waikiki prices). Min dish for appetizer will run about $19 for 3 stuffed chicken wings, and for a main plate average is $22.00. Rice extra. 😅. Atmosphere is all outdoor seating and comfortable and clean.
Got there early right when it opened, and the server very nicely seated us next to the turtle pond in the back. We had a wonderful meal with larb, curry and tomyum soup. All of them were flavorful and In large portions. The tom yum soup was probably the least impressive since it was a little too sour but the others were on point.
Dined with family and friends at Olays. Convenient parking at 1021 Smith St (2 min walk). With reservations, we were immediately seated in a charming, hidden, plastic oasis at the rear. We felt transported.
Culinary highlights included the appetizer platter (spring rolls and stuffed chicken wings were crispy and flavorful; deep-fried vermicelli noodles (mi drop) was exceptional), Shrimp Pad Thai (slippery noodles, signature fishy, sweet-savory flavor, tangy lime accent) and Tofu Pad Makeua (wok fried, fresh eggplant with tofu basil, garlic, and oyster sauce). Massaman curry tasted flat, lacking the aromatic fresh (garlic, galangal, lemon grass) and ground (cardamon, cloves, coriander, cumin, nutmeg) spices I’d experienced in Bangkok. Maybe, next time, we’ll give a different curry a try.
Our server, Michaela, was groovy and attentive.
Prices are reasonable.
Great food! The wings were awesome. The ambience is really nice with live music.
Amazing atmosphere, probably the best in the area where the backyard feels like a resort with waterfountains and canopies. The food was great (although a little on the pricey side for chinatown) with a nice selection of both Thai and Lao dishes with a bunch of choices, but not overwhelming. Really friendly and helpful service, but the only complaint is it took 25 minutes to get our food, and the appetizer came out with everything else when it could've come out way sooner.
11/10 awesome. For group, for a date, for ambiance, for outdoor seating, the friendly vibes, and the awesome and massive food menu. We’ve been here many times and often find ourselves ordering the same things: Thai fried rice, Tom yum, Tom kha, pad ki mao (not as sweet as pad see ew), papaya salad… beware of the spice level tho! Many of the dishes can be either Thai style or Laotian style as well. It’s also bring your own beer/ alcohol. CJ market is next doors, so it’s super convenient to buy some seltzers next door and eat at Olay’s.
The "service" tonight was so bad that we'll never go back or recommend it. There was one guy working really hard and checking on tables in the lower section near the entrance, but we weren't lucky enough to be seated there.
The several employees we were served by/interacted with acted like they couldn't care less about anything.
One girl came out to serve food to a table with a mouth full of food.
We waited an extended period of time to even receive water.
We had to remind them a few times about items we ordered or that were needed for the table.
We ordered the same spice level for our meals, yet one was extremely spicy while the other barely had any heat to it.
In the end, we had to go inside to ask for our check.
As we left, the same 3-4 staff who were rarely seen coming out to serve tables were standing around joking and laughing inside.
Food was okay and the service was not upto the mark. They place has a cute outdoor space
We had been looking forward to trying this place for sometime and unfortunately we were let down. My meal was extremely salty. (Waterfall salad) We enjoyed the patio just felt the food was average especially for the price.
Quaint location in Honolulu Chinatown. I had a Thai noodle dish and it was very good.
Makeila our wonderful waitress made our experience exceptional. She was attentive, friendly, patient, and positive. We were a party of 8 with children, and so we appreciated her amazing service ❤️ We enjoyed our lunch: Tum thad platters, Pun pa, Tom khem, Pad kapow, Kapoon, and more 😋😋😋🥲 WARNING: We'll be back ❤️ 😊😋⚠️
Food was mediocre at best. Everything eas very salty even for thai food. Was dissatisfied at the food quality and the papaya salad was just salt rather than actual flavor

-Pumpkin Curry $19
-Pad Thai $22
-Tom Yum $20
-side Rice $4
-Som Tum $16
We heard they had good food from our friends who live on the island. This was where we had out last meal before heading back home to Washington state. The ambience of the restaurant was beautiful, my kids loved the pond with the turtles and fish. Our server gave us exceptional service and took a picture of our group together. We had different noodle dishes and tried a curry dish. Everything was fantastic. Our favorite restaurant we visited! Thank you.
Great meal and amazing attention. Thank you for making our meal so great
Sehr netter Service, schönes Ambiente und sehr gute Thai-Lao Küche. Restaurant könnte direkt im Isan stehen😁
A must to visit, upon our arrival to Honolulu we made this stop, what an awesome experience, the atmosphere, food and of course Makeila made it so much special. A must to visit!
Have eaten here several times. It's consistently good. Nothing on the menu is the best in the area, but the variety keeps all my guests happy. The service is generally on the slower end, but that's made up for by the wonderful ambiance. A beautiful unexpected oasis in Chinatown.
I eat the Lao hot version, which is a little spicier than standard hot sauce.
We stumbled upon this place while walking around Chinatown in the lookout for somewhere to eat. We don't regret finding this place. The restaurant is so nice and clean inside, but the surprise was the little hidden outdoor area that they had in the back. It was so nice. It's definitely a welcoming place. Makeila was our server, and she was so attentive and nice. The food is great, the portions are good as well. I got the shrimp pad Thai that I split with my two kids, and we ate it up. The appetizers were great as well. You must know it's always a great idea to make a reservation and also its B.Y.O.B which is perfect. A big plus is that it's women owned, which is so great. I definitely recommend this place and will be coming back.
The back patio is amazing! Great food, solid service. BYOB. Definitely make a trip here!
The court yard dinning area was amazing and so was our server Alison.
Shout out to Gabe & Mellow for an incredible dinning experience. Let’s get to the food we ordered a bunch of items and everything was absolutely delicious the garlic curry & yum salad was to die for. I will definitely be coming back again.
Delicious Thai lao food, Anne good service was talking care of my table.
Excellent excellent food, excited by everything we had
Best curries in town. Don’t be misled by its appearance when entering. Outdoor garden dining area is cool and tropical. We’ve been visiting for years and its food is consistently top notch. Our server, Makela, was well versed in the dishes and offered great suggestions to enhance our meal.
good thai food, nice outdoor seating area in the back. can't go wrong here if you want classic thai restaurant food.
Love the food, wish I tried it earlier. Great prices and good portions. We got the appetizer platter which was really filling, but also had the garlic curry and the Laotian pad Thai. Flavors are really unique and a great place to try Laotian food if you’ve never had it before! Definitely coming back.
Visiting Hawaii & finally decided to drop by this place, that I saw on instagram. I will say this place is amazing! The vibe is amazing! The designs! The worker name abs had such great customer service!
Me and my mother adored her to death! We ordered the cucumber salad medium spice (it was bomb), the pad Thai which tasted so good & the kapoon, I tried so many kapoon and this one beat the rest. We also order dessert which is called Nam Wan, it's a tropica jello with coconut milk & shaved ice (which was obviously good also). I love the fact that they sat us where the koi pond was also!
Charming place but food not as good as usual. Yellow curry, pad Thai, mee krob not as tasty as it has been in the past
Everything about this place is just beautiful. I can see why you might need a reservation just to eat here. Luckily my group of 4 was able to get in and get seated. The seating area is beautiful with a fountain on the side that had a turtle and some koi fish. The menu was massive but I ended up going with the pineapple curry. Pretty good and pretty amazing. Definitely recommend giving this place a shot.
Shrimp Pad Thai and Panang Chicken Curry delivered. It was too close to closing time earlier in the week to dine in and there was a wait. Although this is a popular place now, the food is not the greatest. The outdoor dining area looks awesome.
Excellent Thai and Lao food. One of the best Pangnam curries I have ever had. It was Extra peanutty.
The atmosphere was fun and romantic on the outdoor patio.
Unfortunately, the service was subpar. The waiter was inattentive and did not bring many of the things we asked for the first time.
Papaya salad was unique and tasty. Tofu and Pork dishes were delicious. Vegans can definitely enjoy flavorful options here.
Unassuming entrance opens to a lively backyard seating area. The back outdoor (covered) seating is a great atmosphere. Live music and decor set a fun ambiance!
Service left a bit to be desired. The hostess was busy helping coworkers and unable to seat guests promptly and the server forgot our order, and brought out our meals in completely random times. Everyone was friendly. If you’re not in a rush it’s a great place for Laos / Thai cuisine!
The restaurant has an amazing atmosphere is a true dining pleasure. The food meets all the expectations that she would expect from Thailand cuisine. Our server was exceptional and took very good care of us. We highly recommend if you’re coming to Hawaii to make this one of your stops
Just decent. Nothing special.
Very pleasant decor, nice courtyard. Good food.
Too much attitude and piss poor service. Food is average at best and not worth the up charges, minimum fee, extra that.
Charming courtyard to sit in, food was delicious, service was excellent.
We had the appetizer platter and the mango sticky rice for dessert.
How often do you get the chance to eat lao food? I ordered the lao version of pad thai, and my partner ordered the prince curry. Both great. We're vegetarian and vegan and dang it was nice to see a menu with lots of options!Rice was cooked well, and next time I'll get the sticky rice. They asked about reservations so I'm sure they get full fast. No alcohol on premise, and they were very polite & humble when I asked. Honestly, no need alcohol. I hope they keep it that way. If you want umbrella drinks there's bars everywhere. The pond was fun- fat koi and red-eared slider turtles to watch. 100% will return & tell friends.
I've never eaten in, but love this place for take out. Super tasty. Try the lao sausage!
Really cool Thai spot awesome outdoor atmosphere and good food. they don't serve alcohol but you can bring in anything you want and they have a small store beside it that sells whatever
Great food, lovely ambience, friendly staff! Specially good for vegetarian and vegan diet. Had a papaya salad and panang curry and they were both great! We ordered spice level hot and man the papaya salad packed a thai chilli punch! Lovely experience
The food is great, everyone in my party enjoyed their meals. The service was long-winded yet not very informative and when things got a little busy it fell off completely. We waited 20 minutes for our check after having our plates removed.
The main reason for the lower review is due to the review bribery that goes on here and the miscalculated suggested gratuity on the receipts. 5-star review for 10% off the next time you go in... This place doesn't need to do that due to the quality food alone.
Summary: great food, meh-service, and slightly frowned upon business practices.
Food and atmosphere is great. Love the Thai Lao selections and the outdoor patio. JR was our waiter and he was great and gave great recommendations!
Olay's is great!
We had Nam Kow, Mango Salad (Thai Style), Lao Beef Jerky, Spicy fried rice, and spring rolls. My wife also had a passion fruit refresher. Everything was amazing. The ingredients were fresh, and the flavor was perfect.
My wife is Lao, and she does not tolerate bad food. I think that this is her favorite place on Oahu.
We found this restaurant last night on Google, and decided to give it a try. The ambience was absolutely perfect. Live music, lighting, everything. We asked our server, Aija, for a recommendation and she recommended the Drunken Noodles. We decided to give it a try with chicken, along with the Tom Yum soup with shrimp. This was the best recommendation ever. To say it was delicious is a huge understatement. The portions were great, and although we were pretty full, we came very close to ordering a second round of the same. Definitely coming back, you cannot go wrong here!!
Had an amazing experience at Olay Thai! The decorations and lighting make for a unique ambiance that sets this Thai restaurant apart from all the rest. Having traveled across northern Thailand I can vouch for the authenticity of the Laotian dishes. I love that they differentiated between the traditional Thai and the Laotian versions of popular dishes. Special thanks to Ajia for her stellar recommendations and service, she really made our night.
Junior is an amazing server. We love coming to Olay but Junior provided us with excellent service and as usual… the food was absolutely delicious.
You go for the ambiance, but the food was sub par. I’ve had much better Pad Thai on the Big Island, where I’m from. Olay’s pad Thai was bland and many parts of burnt egg. Yuck!! And I was the first one seated at 4 pm. The fried calamari was the worst I ever had. Soooo much breading, the calamari was greasy and rubbery. The only flavor came from the bottled sweet Thai dipping sauce. The courtyard is why you go. It’s a little fairytale like setting in the heart of Chinatown. A cute koi pond, lots of lights and decorations… but the food is why I came and I was terribly disappointed. I looked around and didn’t notice anyone looking like their dish was really good. The pics are of the fried calamari and the massive amounts of breading once the calamari was taken out. Pic of burnt egg in Pad Thai.
No. No. No. The food.
The atmosphere wasn't an issue, for me and my fellow diners it's all about the taste and service. The service was excellent, the food? Not so much.
Our selections were calamari, shrimp summer rolls, tum mak thaeng, khao piek sen udon soup, Thai loco moco, Thai basil beef, garlic pork sticks, and fish patties.
The food, over all, was subpar. My selections, the pork sticks, calamari, fish patties, were actually horrible. The calarimi was not thin slicked, but in uneditable chunks. I know how to cook and season the fish and pork, but this rendition is to be avoided.
The drinks? Masked our taste buds . . .
Go elsewhere.
This is such a cute little restaurant. They have a courtyard that you can sit in. There’s a pond there with the largest kois I have ever seen. The vibe is very on point.
The food is excellent, tastes very fresh, full of herbs. Portions were massive. The drinks were good too.
Tried once for their barbecue pork, which was very dried, stingy and overcooked. Will need to try sth more to tell and make assessment.
Stumbled on this gem! The food is Thai and Lao. The Lao menu hands down da bomb. We had thum platter, nam khao, and shrimp fried rice all Lao hot. We were vacationing in Hawaii and craving Lao food. It's located in Chinatown and literally the cutest restaurant. It has an open top patio with flowers and just very Hawaiian with a Thai and Lao twist! The service was fantastic both days we were there. It's also BYOB! There a store right next door that sells beer. Hope you guys give this gem a try when you're in Honolulu!
Junior deboned my rice and it was so yummy ;)
Excellent food, decorations, service, and atmosphere.
Bigger on the inside! Great atmosphere, perfect service, and delicious food!!!
The best curry in the state! Reliably fresh and as deliciously spicy as you can handle.
Good
Place was decent. Small but nice. Tasty tom yum soup and roll. They had so many empty seats and they made us sit right next to another couple. I could hear every word they were saying.
OMG!! I love there pumpkin thai curry!! My hubby and I got the pineapple fried rice, fried egg rolls and yellow curry. I asked them to add fish onto the pumpkin and was amazing!! The leftover mint leaves from the egg rolls I put onto our water and hot tea and gave it a minty taste :)). The ambiance was nice bamboo, waterfall pond and thai hawaiaan vibe! Waiters are friendly and great. Good job guys! Keep up the good work!
Excellent food and great ambience. My wife is Laotian and she loved everything that we tried. Highly recommended. This is a must try if you love Thai/Lao food.
The Tamarind soup I ordered was really good. I also ordered red curry with chicken and Pad Thai with beef to go. The Pad Thai was awful, it barely had any beef and it was tasteless and dry. The chicken curry was just okay, far from authentic Thai cuisine. The rice was awful, it was dry from days ago. The service was really good, he place was nice and cozy and busy.
Vibes 5/5 but food was okay… went for our first time for a birthday super excited as this has been on our list. Got some apps and few entrees to share. Everything was ok but not amazing, and unfortunately our favorite dish the green curry was quickly destroyed when 2 of us bit into actual clumps of paper towel….not one piece but 2. We were scarred and didn’t want to risk eating it bc what else could be in it at that point. One piece mistakes happen, 2 is suspicious and they were a good size. Had to chew a few times to make sure it wasn’t a piece of ginger, pulled it apart was definitely paper towel. Politely alerted the staff who offered a remake but we were pretty traumatized and didn’t want any more of the same batch. They did give us a small discount and a couple free desserts to make up for it. If you go, I’d go for apps and ambiance. I’m not sure we’ll be back.
Food was great, excellent selection, adventurous menu; however, the service exceeded expectations. Noah was the very best server I've ever experienced in my 60+years; the atmosphere is delightful and combined with Noah's service increased the dining experience by 25%. There were three tables of people with diverse backgrounds he was able to bring together as Aloha family. Just fun.
All five stars because this is some of my favorite Thai food in the island. I have dined here before, but the service tonight was exceptional providing my friend and I with a really fun and friendly experience that made our night. Noah knew a lot about the food and was able to make suggestions we really loved. He was attentive and very good at his job. I could tell the other tables around us enjoyed his service too. The atmosphere is so lovely with all the mood lighting and decor in the courtyard it makes it feel like you’re eating in a garden oasis and not in Chinatown which can be loud and uncomfortable at times. We will definitely be back again soon.
Best Thai and Laos food in all of Honolulu. Be sure not to miss the spot. Every time we go they treat us like celebrities and not just because we’re locals. They treat everyone like celebrities very impressed with this place as I travel all over the world and spend a lot of time in Japan when I come back here I’m always impressed, everything on the menu is outstanding fresh natural ingredients. Love this restaurant and you will too I promise.
We got it at the night market. The Worst chicken sauté and lemongrass chicken I’ve ever had! super dried and sooo hard. They didn’t even tell us they ran out of peanut sauce for the chicken sauté until after we paid and they gave us the chicken, and the server woman was so rude
Okay, we got lucky and went without a reservation but thankfully the hostess was able to squeeze us in despite being fully booked for the night. Staff was great and the food was amazing!! The only downside was we were sat next to the koi pond and I did not find the smell of it pleasing while I ate my food. It’s BYOB style so no alcohol is on the menu to order but they let you bring in your own to drink which is pretty cool. Small grocery store is next door to do a quick buy if needed. The crispy rice ball salad and pad Thai seafood was delicious!
We didn’t have a reservation but they were so kind to fit us in a busy night. The food was delicious. Do not skip out on the Nam Khai it was so so so good. Will definitely come back.
first stop off the plane for our first stop in HI. ambiance was unmatched. great service and food tasted great and authentic. would recommend! kop chai lai lai 🙏🏽🤙🏽
Best curry i’ve had in my life. Really good decor and atmosphere
Came here around 9pm. Staff were very kind to move us after we saw a table open up right next to the Koi Pond.
There’s a lot of detailed effort put into the atmosphere of the garden and I really, really loved it. Unfortunately, the music was really loud, my wife and I couldn’t really converse and the volume was uncomfortable, but I suppose that this is a common vibe for the neighbourhood at that time of night.
The crispy rice ball salad and Lao sausage were excellent explosions of flavour, although the stuffed chicken wings didn’t have much going on.
Service was noticeably friendly, we were greeted by many staff upon arrival and leaving.
I’d be stoked to go back again (if I was back in Honolulu) but I’d try to go before the DJ starts
Just visiting for an anniversary and I am so glad we found this place for a dinner! Great atmosphere from the beginning (thanks Maya!) and loved the koi pond though we didn't sit right by it. Got set up perfectly with drinks right away and had some great food. Will spread the word!
This restaurant epitomizes the idea of "diamond in the rough". The location isn't anything to speak of until you walk off the street to the outdoor oasis that is Olay's. Although the outdoor garden is incredible, the real winner at Olay's is the food. Whatever you order, you can't go wrong, but I am so happy that their "Thai" and "Laos" levels of spice live up to their name. Can't wait to go back!
The food was outstanding and the outdoor eating area was beautiful
A wonderful place in the middle of Chinatown with an amazing atmosphere and remarkably friendly service. Two minor downsides are the slightly higher prices and that the food was delicious, but not excellent.
Amazing food and service! Abcde was amazingly helpful with a family lunch.
