A range of Thai specialties presented in modern white-tablecloth ambiance set in shopping center.
Love the food; unfortunately today’s take out was not 5 star overall. 1 order Pad Siew-my favorite. Can you cut the Look Fun uniformly or is that too much trouble? $22. Big fat noodles and my pet peeve - Most restaurants do not peel the exterior skin from broccoli. Am I the only one?! For the first time at this restaurant I was disappointed. Shucks🙁
If I could give Maile’s zero stars, I would. I ordered takeout and specifically requested beef loco moco because I do not eat pork. What did I get? Clearly ground pork and chunks of spam. When I called to sort it out, the woman on the phone was not only rude but argued with me, insisting it was beef—even though the meat was white. Last I checked, beef isn’t white. She then told me I’d have to drive back to prove it to her because the kitchen staff claimed it was beef. Are you kidding me? I told her I had kids to put to bed and couldn’t make the trip, but she didn’t care at all.
The worst part? She had zero interest in offering a solution—no refund, no replacement unless I drove all the way back, nothing. The customer service here is an absolute joke. And as for the rest of the food? Disgusting. The curry was a congealed, separated mess that looked like it had been reheated one too many times.
I spent $50 on this garbage, only to be treated like I was the problem for daring to complain. Don’t waste your money here unless you like bad food and even worse service. This place is a shadow of what it used to be, and I will never go back.
Be sure to check your take out order BEFORE you leave the restaurant. We orderedYellow Curry and Tom Kha soup with chicken and brought home YC and something with cabbage carrots tomatoes and No Chicken or coconut milk. Not sure what we got. Tried calling. No answer. Don't feel like driving back to the restaurant to exchange. Not what the mouth was hungry for but ate anyway.
I might add that the food is excellent. We've eaten here often. Just wary of takeout.
Some of the best tasting rhai food around. Prices are a little steep, but for the quality and service, it was worth it. Chicken wings were good and not overdone. The wonton soup with bacon flavor was awesome. And the glass noodle salad had a lot of flavor. Portions were great for the price also. There are not too many thai restaurants on this side of the island, so it's definitely worth going here if you're looking for good Thai food.
This place totally surprised me in an amazing way. I heard great things from other locals and I love authentic Thai food. I know how epic it can truly be, but don't ever expect a game changer when I try new places. This place doesn't just change the game... it's got its own. It's so, so, so unassuming... everything we had was incredible. They do a caprese that puts Italian restaurants to shame. The fried chicken appetizer... just wow! That sauce... I need it in my pantry. The service was awesome... it was busy and they had some less then desirable customers and were handling all of it with total grace. Definitely try this place, you won't be sorry. And please do be extra kind to everyone working there 💞💞
I think this is the worst pad Thai I’ve ever had in my life… the noodles were barely covered in sauce and there was no flavor AT ALL. There were patches of just plain white noodles. My Thai tea was filled to the brim with ice. For gross pad Thai and a Thai tea I paid $30!?! Was an absolute rip off. They better do some quality control or this business is going to tank miserably.
I haven’t been back to the restaurant in a while. It was usually pretty good when you ask for a higher level of spice but today, 2 of the 3 dishes we used to order were bland (pad siew was horribly bland and looked to be cooked poorly). The curry we got was fine.
One of the most disappointing restaurant service experiences I’ve had living on Oahu. My girlfriends order was made wrong twice. First with one of her allergy foods that she listed to the waiter. Then remade with a high spice level which we weren’t asked by our waiter what spice level we wanted. She’s visibly pregnant and listed to the waiter her allergies. He was attentive at first, he did not introduce himself and share his name however he was a younger looking kid with short blonde hair, then midway through service he focused on his friends at the bar and completely ignored us for the later half. I had to get up and speak to the host about missing the rice I ordered, when the food was wrong the second time, and when I wanted the check to leave.
The food I received tasted very good however the terrible dining experience and lack of care for my girlfriend’s order makes me not want to return.
Great food, tons of flavor over all great experience

タイ料理。悪くないけど量が多いので3人で行かないと食べきれない、夜はバーがローカルの溜まり場になる。ウエイターの接客はほどほど。

My wife ordered takeout and the order didn’t include rice. Who on earth serves Thai food without rice?

It’s not looking good… once they’re on a Saturday and it was completely empty. I hope they don’t.
We used to love this place. Now it is WAY too much expensive for the little food you received and the quality is ok. The curry is really small for 20 bucks with no rice and the rice is 4 bucks for a really small amount. So sad it got out of control.
Extremely overpriced. One entree didn’t even come with rice and was $4 extra, a side of chili sauce in a tiny cup was $3, not to mention the kitchen fee and 3% credit charge. The food is decent, but not worth the price.
So disappointed in the food.
It is almost as if they must recently hired a new chef and he/she doesn’t have the recipes down yet.
The ribs and fried rice were way too greasy. There were heavy streaks of oil residue on my entire plate after eating each dish.
The house/ pork fried rice was over cooked. The meat was all well done and the rice was over fried.
The ribs were too fatty and the Tom Ka soup was over salted. My wife had to add bone broth to the soup to lighten the reddish color.
I walked into Malie’s Thai with my mom, and no one greeted us for 12 minutes. The owner seated and served a group that arrived after us before even acknowledging our presence. When I finally got my takeout, it was tasteless and overly oily. Unless you're a regular or fit the owner's preferences, expect poor treatment. Terrible service, subpar food. Take your money elsewhere
Love a pau hana and this is my favorite restaurant of all time.
Free parking
I ordered delivery for noodles and mango sticky rice, and the noodles were delicious but I didn’t get the dessert. When I called they told me that they were out and that I should call DoorDash to get a refund. It should’ve have been indicated when I ordered that the dessert was out or they could at least have offered to help with the refund process.
Delicious Pad Thai. Great service and great food. Can’t wait to go back to try more
Do not go there if you are a tourist, you will not be served.
We where completely ignored and people who came after us where served.
We where dressed nice not in beach attire.
We used to love Maile's Thai Bistro, but things changed when they started adding extra fees. As soon as we saw the sign about a 3% kitchen fee and a 3% credit card fee, we decided to leave. I don't mind paying with my card, but I draw the line at paying extra just for using the kitchen. It's the same kind of thing that caused Scratch Kitchen to go under, and I won't stand for it.
Not sure what happened but last food I ordered from there was not even close with what it used to be.
Not really sure why this place is so popular. They have 3 teenage boys running the service for the whole restaurant on a Friday night, but only one of them is a server. We waited a good 20 minutes for a server to even acknowledge us while the other two boys looked bored. There were empty tables so it wasn't exactly super busy.
When the server finally came, he seemed rushed. We order drinks, an appetizer, and dinner. At no time did the server ask us about spice levels or anything, which has been pretty common at EVERY other Thai restaurant I have ever been to. Well, 30 minutes late, our DRINKS, appetizer, AND dinner all came out at once. Again, it wasn't exactly busy and the three boys were seen standing around and talking.
The food tasted okay, but it was SUPER mild and bland for Thai food. Panda Express is spicier than their curry and Pad Thai. This tastes like old haole lady Thai food.
Well the check comes and this place uses every chance they can to add surcharges to everything. They add 3% kitchen surcharge which they call a "tax" on the bill... Which I don't believe is legal. They then add 3% if you pay with a credit card. They say you can avoid 3% if you pay with your "debit", but I don't know who is stupid enough to trust teenage boys with their pin number. It's not like they have a portable POS system to pay.
The bar seemed full and the server seemed to spend extra time with the boomer regulars. Like every other place is Hawaii Kai, the food is a let down, the service is inexperienced, and the place seems to cater to the boomer regulars rather than attracting new customers.
Avoid unless you like non-spicy retirement home Thai food.
Good portions, and some of the best Thai food ever
These jokers literally told me "we're just putting in your order now, it will be ready in 20 minutes" thirty minutes after I placed it. Now after 20 passed, they said "5-10 more" and after that ten minutes told me "it's in the fryer now, 10 more minutes". Better you didn't lie to your customers if you ever want them to come back.
Food is ok. Nothing extraordinary or special. It is like any of the food outlets in a random food court.
Service is slow, especially when there are no patrons (they had an already served group of 3 and my order was next).
They have an extra kitchen charge (3%), and credit card charge (another 3%). That is 6% on top of already inflation bound economy. If you tip about 15%, your meal is basically about 20% more than what it is stated on the menu.
If the food was awesome, I'd pay that much. But unfortunately, that is not the case.
Not a good business model if they are trying to build loyal customer base.
The spicy basil noodles (pad ki mao) with beef were amazing
So much fun here! The bartender was great 👍 great food and drinks. The garlic stir fry with seafood was so good! The Mango lemongrass cocktail was great also! Great vibe lots of locals!
Ordered beef glass noodle salad; Shrimp Curry; Basa with Lime chili sauce & Spring roll with sticky rice a hot tea & Thai tea cost 100.00 was the worst food. Every item basically came with same sweet chili sauce & herbs on
each items were totally rotten & nothing was fresh. The best part was before our departure notified the nice server & called in to inform the manager about food quality wasn't up to par, no flavor & they both took my complaint well. Our Pearl City area have way better Thai food than this place which is overrated & overpriced. Also diners be aware they have 3% kitchen fee & charge another 3% if using a credit card to total price. Mahalo.
Now they charge you extra. Kitchen fee AND credit card fee.
Ordered a red curry and fried chicken today. This was my second time at Maile’s and the food was again just disappointing. The fried chicken had chunks of fat in it and the curry was very basic. Anyone could have cooked it with a basic red curry paste. You have to ask for napkins and utensils.
I expected more quality
It's ok, but there is always a problem. Half of the times they say they can't serve you because they are closing early or they stopped prepping, or any other crazy reason.
Terrible service never order Take out from this place
Ive wanted to love this restaurant because our family loves Thai food and we live in Hawaii Kai.. we've lived here 3 years and tonight was our 3rd and final time trying to like the food served here. (Basically once a year we cave and retry it)
After my husband's first bite of Pad Kee Mao (pictured), the first words out of his mouth were, "if I made this, Id be so disappointed". We've had this dish at so many Thai spots (its my favorite!) and this was the worst tasting weve ever experienced.
We also ordered Punang Curry which was ok, but nothing to write home about.. not very flavorful like it typically is.. just a little kick then kinda bland beyond that flavor profile (normally its such a wonderful blend of sweet spicy creamy goodness).
Sucks to relearn the hardway that Mailes really is subpar and I need to stop retrying in hopes that I'll have a better experience.
For anyone looking for good thai in Hawaii Kai, we much prefer Olay Thai that comes to the farmers market on Tuesdays at Kaiser Highschool. Their punang curry is so delicious -- wish their storefront wasnt all the way in Chinatown or else we would enjoy mote often.
Service was pretty slow. Food was OK.
Terrible service. The worst
Good food, but I wish that they were a bit more up front about the extra kitchen charge and separate credit card charge. Or maybe just roll the extra hidden charges into the menu prices. It just doesn't feel good to get nickeled and dimed on top of rising menu prices.
Seriously wow! I’ve ate at many Thai Bistros across the mainland and this is by far the best I’ve had! Very flavorful, great presentation, great service and a nice atmosphere. Didn’t get a chance to try any of the bar drinks but seen some of the ones coming out and they looked amazing! Will be coming back soon!
LOVED their pork jerky and their spring rolls. I got the garlic shrimp and i loved it except they leave the tails on the shrimp and they only gave me like 5 pieces.
Used to be decent back in the day. Current kitchen serves rancid food, roaches, and flies. Don’t eat here unless you want diarrhea.
Good food
I ordered the red curry, HOT! If you like spicy curry, you will love this place. Hot is HOT and oh so good! Our appetizers and drinks were good too. Parking is easy but crowded since it's in a strip mall. I'd go again.
Thai food to die for!!! So delicious!! I can’t get enough, every dish is amazing
Excellent Thai food!! Only reason for 4/5 is you have to buy rice. It’s pricey.
Food is really good!
Love this place. Probably my favorite Thai on the island. Highly recommend the panang and pineapple curries and the pad see ew.
Came at 6:20 for dinner and was told the kitchen was closing, and we couldn't be seated? We were waiting outside on the sidewalk to find a nearby restaurant, when hostess proceeded to sit a party of 8 right in front of us. When I talked to the hostess/servers, they said someone in the kitchen said they still would not seat us because they wanted to close early. Wildly disappointing and unprofessional behavior for a restaurant.
Setting new standards for laid-back Hawaii, it took one hour to get two stir-fries and a salad. Only one dish arrived hot. They weren't busy, just very slow moving. Food was good so two stars.
Consistently bad experience. Ordered from Uber eats. Thai fried rice is so overpriced and bad quality. Rice is so mushy and wet, and I asked for VERY HOT and it’s the most mild Thai fried rice ever. No sign of any sort of spice. Chose Beef and 3 pieces of beef. Gave this restaurant so many chances but just consistently horrible
The taste of food was great except of too much salt in everything. Otherwise excellent service.
Ordered 2 pad Thai shrimp and a chicken pad Thai and an order of spring rolls to go. Besides only getting literally 4 shrimp in each plate and dry chicken that was like paper. It was over cooked no flavor. Spring rolls were overcooked and lacked any real flavor. Definitely not worth the $78 we paid!
I love their vegan dishes. The staff are great.
Always enjoy it here!
It’s been awhile since I’ve had good Thai
Awful! That's the best word to describe the food here, I don't usually like to leave bad reviews but this is a must because when the food is so bad to ruin your day you have to warn other people before they try this place.
It started by letting us standing there for a while even though the place was empty, we ordered the food and the waitress didn't even bother to ask us how spicy we wanted our dishes so just sent everything bland. The food was all pre cooked and cold, no flavor whatsoever, the beef was as tough as leather. $40/person for Thai food lunch? An absolute rip off, never again!
Yummy peanut sauce and delicious sangrias, especiallythe white one!!
Nice place, great customer service! I ordered their loco moco, everybody should try it!
Best Thai food! Debated not posting a review because I don’t want it to get too busy haha. But they’re amazing and feel like they deserve every one of those 5 stars. Togo is always just as top notch as their food when ordered in, a lot of places can’t say the same, very good at making it the spice level you ask for. From appetizers to mains and dessert you can’t go wrong. Been eating here for over a decade and it is always a fav of anyone I bring
Maile's Hawaii Kai is the best of the 2 restaurants. SERVICE IS ALWAYS BEST.
Best Thai on island. Their panang curry is a favorite. Service is fast. People are nice.
This is what I don't understand? You wouldn't make a customer sitting at a table and wait an hour and 20 minutes for their food? Why would you do that to someone who already pre-paid and ordered online? Not once! (Which I took as maybe you were busy). But Twice! This second time I asked for my money back. It's quite obvious you care little about customers? As there was no apology for your mistake.
Authentic Thai tasty food. Neighborhood bar (8 chairs).Cocktails with your meal. Servers' fun and caring towards customers. Service speed can be long. That's why you want to start with drinks and appetizers. Or take out orders are available 🤙😋😘
Delicious Thai food!
Our fav Thai spot on Oahu! Love that they offer gluten free and dairy free alternatives with high quality food.
Didn't go there
Very good food. Great service in a pleasant atmosphere.
Curry is fabulous…Pad Thai was not worth the price…missing spring onions and a few other ingredients usually found in this dish…
AWESOME PLACE.
SUPER AUTHENTIC THAI CUISINE...WITH A HIGHER CLASS CLIENTELE... (at a super fair price)
DELICIOUS FOOD and FRIENDLY PROFESSIONAL ATTENTIVE STAFF.
Worth every penny.
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Late lunch on Father's Day.
Good food and selection. Didn't try to get it as spicy as I would normally eat (Thai hot) just to see their normal, but added prik nam pla (nice that they had it!). Definitely going back, since I can't get back to Thailand until they open the boarders.
This place totally surprised me in an amazing way. I heard great things from other locals and I love authentic Thai food. Love this place. Spent many disappointed Thai dinners on the island until we found Maile’s. Moved from Seattle and Maile’s is similar to Srivilai and Buddha Ruksa.
The best pho in Honolulu.
Best thai food I ever had. The service is also great. Been going there for years and you won’t find better food in the Hawaii Kai area.
Thank you 🙏
Great vegan options. The summer roll was really fresh and tasty. The vegetable stir fry was so crispy and they alter the spiciness to what you prefer. The vegetable stir fry did not come with rice, which at first I was disappointed, but the amount of veggies you get is plenty and I didn’t miss the rice at all. The vegan pad Thai was also very good. It wasn’t greasy and the vegetables were all fresh. My in-laws got the calamari. It wasn’t that great. It was heavily battered in some yellow breading. Overall great restaurant.
Delicious
Amazing food and always a pleasure. Their Thai Loco moco is to die for and the angel wings are worth the drive!
Delicious food! Atmosphere could be improved with louder music, could hear kitchen cleaning dishes and refrigerators humming throughout meal.
Great food and service.
Best Thai restaurant in Honolulu?
Let's check the facts as I have experienced them:
Amazing food? Yes!
Great selection on the menu? Yes!
Terrific service? Yes!
Amazingly clean and safe environment dining in? Yes!
Option for pick up and take out? Yes!
Easy parking? Yes!
Full bar with hospitable and entertaining bartender? Yes!
Maile's Thai Bistro hits all these points, it really is that good. I'm running out of adjectives to express just how good it is.
After a year of not going into restaurants, my wife and I had an anniversary so we decided we would go to Maile's which we knew was practicing safe covid requirements and then some. While other restaurants were operating at 50% occupancy, they were operating at 30% occupancy for safety.
Everything was spotless. The safety measures in place made us feel very safe to eat and be without masks at the table, and it was just awesome to see a few other people in the restaurant also eating and enjoying a great meal together. The service was impeccable, and the food was incredibly flavorful and delicious, not to mention how great the plates looked in their design and presentation.
This is a real testament to smaller restaurants with owners who actively are interacting with their customers and have the skill and ability to go above and beyond what we would normally look at as a "great meal".
TLDR; the best Thai Fusion restaurant on Oahu. Super clean, Super safe, exactly what you want for an enjoyable dinner!
Good amount of social distancing and has indoor and outdoor space both being perfect for a good time and a good view. The food is good and the service is amazing would recommend highly and would go again
The staff and inside is nice. I tried the Thai fried chicken and it was mostly fried batter with hardly any chicken. Maybe I'll try something else, but def pass on that next time.
Great portions,
Great food and service
I frequent this place. I typically get spring rolls and Pad Thai. Then I get something to take home. I had their whole menu.
Great value, great food, and great service before, during, and probably after quarantine. Consistent quality whether dine in or takeout.
Good stuff.
Great Pad Thai and Fried Rice
This is the absolute best Thai restaurant in Hawaii and I am saying this as a person who has lived in Thailand and is married to the best Thai chef I have ever known. Thanks My Dear ❤️❣️
Delicious food and super friendly staff. The drinks are a little strong for my taste, but hey, more bang for your buck.
Not sure who is the chef in the kitchen these days but the food is better than ever. I'll keep coming back. Thank you for the wonderful food and service!
Phuket Thailand is the only part of Thailand I've ever visited, but the food here reminds me of Phuket, and the service is outstanding! Highly recommend for a beer and appetizer after some Costco shopping!!!
Reeeeealllly good!!!
Awesome food and atmosphere. Service is great too. Can't go wrong with this spot
Felt like having some Thai so we ventured to the east side. We got the green papaya and long rice salads and shared a red curry and pad thai. The green papaya salad was shredded fine and included some crunchy green bean and tomato slices and included ground peanut topping on the side. The long rice salad reminded me of a spicier, tangier thinner chicken long rice. I was surprised it came out warm. The red curry sauce was pleasantly spiced and oh so creamy and lovely over jasmine or sticky rice. The pad thai was one of the best I’ve ever had. The texture of the noodle and veggie toppings were so nicely balanced. We mixed ours up before digging in.
Always leave happy, friendly people, great food. Mahalo Maile
First time ordering from here. We got take out. They forgot to put in one of the meals we ordered. When I called they said all they can do is comp a meal the next time we go (there will never be a next time). Also, I ordered a vegetarian noodle dish and it came with egg in the noodles although eggs are not listed in the description of the meal. I don't eat eggs. So we paid $60 for some stir fried previously frozen vegetables. Thanks.
Excellent food and service at reasonable prices.
Love the curry there. Always very good food and service.
GF wanted some Thai food yesterday and since we were in HK stopped by this place for lunch. We usually go to Phuket so that's my standard. The food at Maile was just ok. It was on the bland side for Thai food which I expect to be flavorful. More expensive too. I wouldn't go back.
Service is 🤙👌👍 food is awesome! Great clean atmosphere.
The owners & dining experience are amazing! I recommend both of their locations!
Maile's has excellent quality Thai food. They are tasty, the ingredients appear to be high quality. The service is generally good, or even excellent. Staff is friendly. Prices are modest for the quality of the food. We love it.
Happy Hour is the Bomb!
Pupus at a discount...spring rolls, wontons, cold tofu, fries(are a must, they often run out), edamame...just a few. Wine, beer & well drinks are also cheaper. 3-6 everyday.
Also love yellow chicken curry, chicken pad thai, angel wings- regular menu pricing.
Enjoy!!!
Nice place good food and is nice to do once in a while.
Pupus half price 3 till 6 food was outstanding yellow curry, potatoes and carrots cooked perfectly (firm n crunchy)with sticky rice...Never Enough sticky rice. It's a shame there was very few servers on tonight. Our waiter took our order never check back until he brought the check. Acceptable in a way because he was only one of maybe 2 waiters serving that evening.👍
Top shelf food and services
We used to love Mailes in Hawaii Kai.
We ordered take out every week.
Lately it's been very inconsistent.
In the Phad Thai Noodles with Shrimp add tofu.
The tofu was cold and raw.
Shrimp tails , sime with no shrimp on them.
Forgot the Chile sauce again.
I always ask for it up when ordering.
It's so unfortunate to see our favorite local restaurant in our area, go down the tubes like this.
Last time they blamed It on the chef being out of town.
But 3 times, is too much.
Another time, a hostess.
I blame management.
So bummed.
I
Delicious but pricey
Best Thai on the island. The only restaurant out here I keep going back to after 6 years.
Great happy hour specials! Really good Thai food. So tasty and great with drinks. Bartender even created a yummy blueberry Ichiko drink. Thanks Maile!
Fantastic food, very friendly staff, and an excellent drink selection.
WOW
FANTASTIC
Fantastic!!
Good food. The value is not there compared to thai valley cuisine, and the service is definitely not up to par on some nights.
For the price of the pho, you would think it was bomb. It is not. The pho taste like instant noodle pho. The fried rice and other entree’s were good.
My go to place in the east side
Atmosphere and service was outstanding. Some parts of our meal were outstanding and others were mediocre at best. Prices were a little steep. Once again atmosphere and service was excellent. I would go again and try different foods.
Love the food, love the staff, love the vibe.
Good food, service not bad --but not great
Good food
Thai style Loco Moco us a must try!
You may need to wait a little longer for your food but it's so delicious and hot who cares! Have always had nice servers and parking is easy.
