At Bangkok Chef, we’re all about bringing the vibrant flavors of Thailand to the heart of Honolulu at 1627 Nuuanu Ave. With a warm Aloha, we believe in serving authentic Thai dishes that offer a genuine culinary experience. No compromises—just pure, delectable Thai goodness.
Had not been there for a long time, like over 2 years as it is just too expensive to eat out these days. I can tell you the food is still excellent and reasonably priced.
We had a variety of dishes. Only thing is yellow curry a little watery, and the papaya salad had vinegar instead of lime. But the other dishes were wonderful. My friend said the Thai tea was strong (better than too weak). Plan to return!
This review is long overdue. After all the years of me going to various Bangkok Chefs on Oahu the fact is simple. High quality delicious food for a reasonable price.
It’s been hard to find good value meals these days, and as prices keep going up and portions get smaller, I find myself visiting Bangkok Chef for their consistent service, nice atmosphere and classic recipes.
Bangkok Chef provides a great casual dining experience with a nice selection of menu items. I generally prefer this Manoa location due to the availability of parking. Most of the menu items here are served pretty quickly. Also, for the price point, the flavors are terrific. As long as the quality of the food remains the same, and the prices remain affordable, this place gets five stars.
6/1/2018 update: Tried the Thai Style pho as well as the Summer Rolls. I was impressed with both dishes. The Thai style pho had a generous amount of meat, onions, fried garlic and other things in there. I also like the thicker noodles. The summer rolls were also tasty and had thinner noodles in them as well as no sprouts.
Bangkok chef is a quick, affordable and delicious Thai food place near the University of Hawaii at Manoa campus. The staff here are friendly and welcoming. The food is filled with fresh flavors of basil, ginger, lime leaves etc. My only complaint is that the amount of protein is less compared to the rice provided.
Check out Bangkok chef ..good food. Pad Thai noodles and chefs special and great spring rolls. Come and check em out. They also have tapioca too.

Great vegetarian options

Best fried chicken rice I had in long time. Delicious
My family and I absolutely adore Bangkok Chef, a remarkable Thai restaurant. We find ourselves constantly drawn to their tantalizing Spring Rolls, flavorful Chicken Fried Rice, irresistible Pad Si You, and comforting soups.
The Spring Rolls at Bangkok Chef are simply divine. Crispy and filled with a delightful combination of fresh vegetables, they make for a perfect start to our meal. And when it comes to the Chicken Fried Rice, we can't get enough. The tender chicken, fragrant jasmine rice, and colorful medley of vegetables create a harmonious blend of flavors that keeps us coming back for more.
One of our absolute favorites is the Pad Si You. The wide rice noodles, perfectly stir-fried with beef and crisp vegetables, result in a dish that is both comforting and deeply satisfying. And let's not forget about their soups, Bangkok Chef's soups never fail to impress with their rich flavors and fresh ingredients.
Aside from the incredible food, the ambiance and service at Bangkok Chef are top-notch. The warm and welcoming atmosphere combined with the attentive staff create a memorable dining experience for our family. If you're in the mood for exceptional Thai cuisine that will leave you craving more, Bangkok Chef is the place to be.
Nestled in the beautiful Manoa Valley, this Bangkok Chef is my favorite by far. You will always feel welcomed and cheered when you walk in the door and are greeted by Ms. Vasana, and whether you are inhaling yellow curry, add broccoli, and fresh summer rolls with sweet peanut sauce or Tom Yum, lemon ginger soup, or Tom Kha coconut ginger soup, both piping hot, healing and delicious, you will feel as if you've invested in your health and that it was worth it.
My father, who grew up in this lovely valley, always used to say, "Eat your wealth to increase your health. You can't take anything with you anyway. " And he's not wrong when it comes to this yummy gem of a restaurant. Eat here. Your body and mind will thank you. 😊
Reasonably priced locally owned mom and pop feel.
Good but not outstanding thai food, but again, cheaper than most, so 4 stars over all for value.
Great place to get some good Thai food. Always visit every time I'm on Oahu
Overall good. Usually very consistent, tasty food. However, my most recent order included pad thai, and the dish was much wetter than usual and the noodles were a bit soggy. And there was no tofu in it. Not sure if this is an anomaly or if the recipe changed.
I am not a picky eater, but I could not eat the food we got delivered by through Uber. Everything tasted like it was cooked hours ago. Case in point, the 'sticky' rice was so sticky that you couldn't eat it with chop sticks - it was melted together and tasted like plastic. The pad thai was overcooked and dry. I can't recall the last time we threw away an entire order...
Yes, it's cheap, fast, and very decent Thai food. More than decent. Often very very good. But sometimes not so much. Depends on who's cooking I guess. But always a nice treat and you don't feel broke after. The spring rolls are amazing and never disappoint. Be ware of the other locations though, I tried once and it was no bueno.
Cooked to order! Fresh-tasting. Authentic Thai flavors! Very friendly staff.
Great place for some great Thai cuisine.
Their spicy dishes are to die for. But you can have it mild too. Clean seating area & parking in front.
This is the best place for mediocre Thai like cuisine. The meats are over marinated, the sauces are too sweet and the sticky rice was stale and crumbly. The pad thai was watery and syrupy. What saved a two star review was the cold desserts. The thai iced tea tapioca was actually quite refreshing.
Very delicious, pad se ew. Tom kha and many more dishes, all delicious
Food is still delicious and MSG free when requested, HOWEVER, their portion sizes shrank by 1/4-1/2 depending on what you order! Not only that but the curry lacked the variety of vegetables it once had and was mostly full of potatoes (which are cheap) taking up most of the space of the smaller containers...
I understand this might be due to the disruption in the supply chain thanks to this "pandemic" but that is no excuse to rip off your customers. Has your consumer base shrunk that much that you need to cut portion sizes and increase filler ingredients?!
Once the supply chains resume to their full capacity I expect Bankok Chef to increase their portion sizes accordingly to that which they had previous of the pandemic, especially since the value of the dollar is greater now than it was in the years following the recovery of the housing-bubble (2010-2015). Inflation is not the reason for this change...
I would like to be a returning customer but I cannot afford to eat out if the portion sizes are shrinking and all I get are potatoes... you will lose business in the longer run this way. I hope to see your portion sizes return to your standard!
Good food, reasonable prices.
Convenient for Manoa residents.
Great pad Thai and spring rolls right here and Manoa!
Possibly the best spring rolls I've ever had. The fried rice was also excellent. They were able to accommodate our large group of adults and children. It wasn't too busy and the staff was friendly and responsive. I knocked off a star because the Pad Thai was just mediocre and multiple people in our party that ordered the summer roll really didn't like it due to the mint. So just find and stick to the menu items that you like....like the insanely delicious spring rolls.
friendly staff and quick service. good is great too.
Never again. Hands down the worst Thai food I've ever had. I mean this when I say that you couldn't pay me to eat here again. The green curry was completely bland and coagulated in a way that resembled phlegm--I've never seen that in a curry before. Despite asking for the highest level of spiciness, it barely had any heat. I spent a considerable amount of time in Southeast Asia, and I know what a Thai curry is supposed to taste like, and this ain't it!
安くてバカ旨
Plastic even to stay. Bland. Potatos in the panaeng curry
Had ala cart pork panang, chicken basil, and spring rolls. All very good as usual. I like this location for taste and convenience vs Nimitzor Nuuanu.
Always good - fresh, hot, authentic (personal tip - choose the sticky rice 👌)
My go-to place for dinner when working in the evenings. Healthy, tasty and good value.
The food is consistently good.
This is almost the same as Thai food in Thailand
Their Pork Curry with Jasmine Rice is TDF! :9
Fresh, homemade, good Thai classic dishes!!
Authentic food! Very tasty! The two folks in charge we're both Thai. Very informal, but the food was excellent
Every Friday with the whole family for years
Favorite thai restaurant. Been going here since they first opened.
Our local take-out fast food Thai Spot. My other half always gets the #16 with chicken and veggies. I prefer the Tom Ka soup and or the Curry Dishes. They are now offering noodles instead of rice too!! Which I also like. It's good easy meals to choose on the run or for dinner when you don't have time to cook.
Always good food at a reasonable price.
I had the tom kha gai and the summer rolls. Delicious!
Okay, not great but okay
Little hidden gem with great food!
Cheap and good not much else to say
Good food. Fast service.
This Bangkok Chef in Manoa is so delicious... Monday thru Friday. I think the chef is different on the weekends :(
From the service and food is all great.
Good Thai, the larb and papaya salads are my fave!
The red curry was fantastic
#food was excellent
I love the food it is so convenient when I don't have time to cook. I just order ala carte and it is great. I love the red curry and basil chicken.
No vegetarian/vegan option...
Always love eating here...everything is onolicious!
Good fast food Thai
Fast service.
always quick in and out. Phone in order, arrive, pay and pick up order ready in 10 mins from initial call.
I enjoyed the #12 green curry with chicken
Tasty, simple, quick. Well seasoned but not over the top so anyone will enjoy.
So good!! I love this place, it keeps me coming back and has never let me down.
Food is great but priced kinda high.

Food here is so good for your soul! We love Bangkok Chef & in the past have eaten here 3-4 days in a week!

order and pay before get your meal. many choices :) friendly staff and taste nice.
They have many variety of thai food. Moreover they serve enough food mostly one meal set would be enough for a person ..you can also take out if needed. They got good parking space as well.
It's not the best Thai food I've ever had, but still for quick and easy access, I've never had a disappointing meal.
My favorite Bangkok chef
Fast, healthy, delicious. And mango ice cream!
Hidden deep in Manoa Valley is a gem of restaurant. Good Thai food, good portions, clean, I find it worth the drive even if I am closer to the S. King street location. The portion sizes are bigger. You can order your food to the spice level you desire. You can call in your order ahead of time if you want take out, in fact I would suggest it since they cook each dish to order. You'll like this place.
The woman at the register was not friendly, and actually rude. not going back anytime soon.
手軽にタイ料理がいただけます
本格的というより、ラオス風なのかな
Great food and good prices and portions. I eat here all the time, the food is sometimes inconsistent (depending on who’s in the kitchen?) but is generally delicious. Friendly staff. Even if you it don’t call your order in, the wait time isn’t too long. Highly recommended :)
Still the best place for reasonably price satay! Get the Panang Curry extra hot.
There long rice had lots of veggies health and taste
Great food from a take-out atmosphere
Great food great price and service
Portion get s smaller but price goes up
Great Thai food, good proportions
Love the mango salad
