Casual-yet-elegant eatery serving traditional Thai fare & sushi with optional patio seating.
This is a great place to go and enjoy family and friends while tasting delicious Thai food dishes. Their sushi is delicious, however it took a little while to have it made and delivered to our table. The atmosphere is comfortable and relaxed while the staff attempt to do their very best to achieve a very good dining experience. However may need to be reminded. Reservations are recommended to be sure to be seated in a timely manner. Definitely worth trying to satisfy your Thai food desires.
Seriously the best Thai restaurant I have ever been to. I come here multiple times every time I find myself in the Atlanta Area. The food is affordable, authentic and incredibly delicious with the sushi being one of the best I have ever had. I also had the Pad Thai and Massaman Curry which were also incredibly tasty. The staff and owner are great - I was greeted very kindly as soon as I walked in and the great service continued throughout the night. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves great Asian food. 10/10.
Steep stairs and a tight table layout make navigating the dining room challenging. Once you're at your table, none of this matters.
The freshly prepared food is nuanced with balanced flavors. The portions are generous, colorful, and arrive hot. The spice indicator on the menu is accurate. The drinks are layered with enticing combinations.
Delicious and excellent value, on the Thai side. The sushi is expensive, but probably comparable for the quality.
Overall, i look forward to coming back and wish this place was in my neighborhood because it is definitely better than the two Thai places there.
This restaurant pick was a last minute choice as the restaurant we were headed to turned out to be permanently closed. Mali Restaurant was a pleasant surprise in all 3 categories: Food, Service & Atmosphere. 1st time I've had Green Curry but it was excellent and plenty 🔥🔥🔥
We dined for the first time on Friday night and had luckily made a reservation because they were incredibly busy. The host and wait staff were friendly and attentive despite the busyness. Our issue, however, was with where we were sat. We were given a table in the very far corner of the lower section, with a beautiful view of the storage corner where highchairs, boxes, and other random junk was stacked up. The table itself would be fine if it wasn't for the direct view of all this junk! When paying $100+ for a meal for two people, this is not the atmosphere you want. I urge the owners to either clean up this junky corner or hang a curtain or something. Overall, it was a disappointing experience and not the date night atmosphere we hoped for.
Excellent food. I’ve had the spring rolls, pad thai, thai tea, and some of their sushi. The service is always great too.
The best spicy seafood soup that I have ever tasted! The green curry salmon is to die for!

Exceptional good food and very professional staff

Solid thai with pan Asian accents. Nice atmosphere with good service.
Quality of food needs to be stepped up a little, sashimi could be fresher. It's usually been excellent over the years but not so good a night.
Stumbled upon Mali while out for lunch with friends. We eat Thai fairly often so it was easy to compare. WOW! Were we happy with our choice. We caught them near the end of their lunch service time but the food was prepared perfectly and tasted better than many of the places we frequent. We did not feel rushed and the staff was more than pleasant and accommodating.
Excellent Thai food. Didn’t try the sushi but I will next time.
Best Thai food I’ve had in Atlanta. Some favorite dishes are the Pad Thai, Basil Rolls, and the Chicken Satay.
We loved the food and atmosphere of this restaurant. All hands were on deck to help make our experience memorable, and the food was bomb. Great pad Thai and fresh ingredients.
Great food! Great customer service! Great atmosphere!
So good every time!
We had an incredible meal and the service could not have been more pleasant and professional. Highly recommend.
I arrived with a party of 16 people. We had one awesome server by the name of Kevin. He was cheerful, precise and accurate with all of our orders. Not one order was incorrect and they all arrived sufficiently. I will definitely be back.
A very unique experience. The food is always good the sushi from what I hear for others is great (allergic). There aren't many dishes without fish or fish sauce but the ones that are..are very delicious.
great, inventive starters! very kind staff and quick service! I've been many times, and it never disappoints.
This is a cool spot. Dined in and sat on the porch. The staff was amazing and the service was awesome.
Both the sushi and Thai food that we had were above par and delicious. Drinks were also great.
The menu is a little pricey and it can be difficult to find parking depending on the time of day, but well worth the money and effort.
My husband and I have been coming here for years! One of our favorite spots for Thai food and sushi!
I have been to Mali quite often. It has never failed to be fabulous. The service is always great. 👌
The food is good, the service is good, the prices are high.
I haven’t been there in a while, but the food was good. It was not as good as I remembered.
Great execution and service. The menu does stretch a bit on different Asian cuisines but whatever they do is done right. Been here at least 5 times and they literally don't miss a beat. Not expensive.
I lovet
Love their panang curry and coconut soup. Their panang is a bit saltier and thicker than Spoon's but really good. Great place to eat if you can't have gluten or have a gluten sensitivity. I'd definitely get again.
I've been a patron of this establishment for over three decades, but recently revisited it to catch up with a friend on a Saturday night. Departing from my usual order of sushi and a martini, I opted for the fried soft shell crab dish. While visually impressive, it turned out to be excessively spicy, surpassing even my tolerance level as someone from LA. Surprisingly, my friend, who typically enjoys spicy food, also found it too hot to handle. Additionally, her masaman dish lacked the expected coconut flavor, instead leaning towards an overly sweet and flavors of cinnamon and pumpkin.
However, what compels me to share this review is my disappointment with the cocktails, particularly the lemon drop martinis. Despite their steep price tag of $15 per drink, they seemed to be lacking in alcohol content. With a final bill amounting to $165 for just two of us and a $32 tip, the overall experience fell short of expectations. We will not be back.

Decent choice for lunch or dinner when you want to try something new. The food is about a 4/5 - nothing special, but still not bad.
Perfect restaurant with amazing service and delicious food! The staff gave great recommendations. Our food was prepared in a timely manner and the flavors were present! For entrees we ordered the lemongrass grilled chicken (Grilled chicken, marinated in fresh lemongrass. Served with sautéed mixed vegetables, bell peppers, mushrooms, and our sweet chili sauce) and the Massaman chicken *mild spice* (Mildly spiced sweet coconut Massaman curry with onions, avocado and cashews). They have a large menu that will satisfy anyone’s tastebuds. I love the neighborhood feel of this restaurant and the music selection. I will definitely be back!
Everything was delicious . Glad we found this restaurant
Best Thai in Atlanta
Wasn’t prepared for such an elegant experience! Great ambience and delicious Thai food, will definitely be back
Amazing place with great food!
Delicious basil rolls, pad thai and rainbow curry with shrimp. The service is terrific and atmosphere is great for dinner with and good conversation.
Cute little space. Very friendly staff. The food was a little too salty. Had the Tom Kha, Panang Curry and Green Curry. All were a bit more salty than expected.
Took my family to Mali on 12/22. My brother ordered the duck curry and unfortunately experienced food poisoning. Called them the next day to let them know but still have not heard back from the manager. I’ve had a good experience with them before so very disappointed with this experience.
Whether I’m picking up to deliver or ordering for myself the staff are very helpful and attentive!
Been going here for 20+ years, always good
Dinner was excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant
Excellent! We ordered Spring rolls, the veggie gyoza, malis pockets and the golden veggie. Every item was full of flavor and nothing was wasted. There is ample parking which is a plus when you're in Atlanta!
Great experience - will be back
Delicious! I’m vegan and ordered the red curry with tofu which is a fully vegan dish! We enjoyed everything.
A little expense, but excellent food quality. Dish was very flavorful! Differently an Atlanta favorite?
Great sushi, yummy green curry, pad kee mao and pad see ew. Our family loves going here as well as getting take away. Neighborhood fave!
The service was very attentive. The Pad Thai left a bit to be desired, but I recommend the Massaman Curry. It was great! The garlic rice complemented it well, but the rice needed a touch of salt. Overall, a decent food experience.
This is one of my favorite restaurants. Now my son brought us all here for his birthday. 🤪
Amazing neighborhood Thai restaurant. Best green curry in Atlanta. Clean, great service, cold beer
I have been here few times and always walked out feeling dinner and the overall experience is just ok.
The chicken is consistently like chunks of beef.
I find Nan and Surin better Thai restaurants.
Ordered the spicy garlic chicken ($14). It was tasty but a little too salty. My vegetables consisted of one mushroom cut in half, three broccoli stems, 2 long hot peppers, couple of bell pepper strips & a few flat fancy cut carrots with some cabbage.
My friend enjoyed her chicken pad thai noodles ($13).
Great food, great service.
The catfish literally had no flavor. I used to love this placed the quality of the food has went from a 10 to a 1. Everything was brought at publix 😕. The seafood is not fresh shrimp pad thai is a no.. if u are looking for inconsistencies please come here
Probably the best Thai food in ATL! You must get the Pad Kee Mao. The smoky flavor from the wok takes right to the streets of Bangkok. You can command the spice level to any place you’d like. Be sure to order it with pork and grab some spring rolls as you wait! I would highly recommend!
I used to travel across town to eat here. The last dining experience proved me wrong, the sushi was not great whatsoever.
My visit to Mali was disappointing. The staff appeared unfriendly and agitated, creating an uncomfortable atmosphere. Moreover, the restaurant closed promptly at 10 PM, just as we were about to enjoy desserts. To add to the discomfort, the strong smell of bleach from vacuuming and mopping nearby ruined the experience. I hope they address these issues for a better dining experience.
Excellent Thai and Japanese food, loved it!
With Thai everywhere it seems, I had forgotten all about this restaurant. It has been in VaHi forever, is good, and, frankly is back on my go to places. I could also hear my tablemates which is an added plus. Yes, they do have sushi
Delicious!
Been going to this restaurant for over 20 years. Food is always good, service is hit or miss!
Delicious sushi. Delicious entrees and appetizers. I loved it.
Stopped here to avoid some of the rush hour traffic. So glad that I did! Every dish I had was absolutely delicious! Service was wonderful, and everything came out in a timely manner. Definitely recommend, and cannot wait to go back.
Best Thai food in Atlanta
Never disappoints!
In addition to Armando's exceptional service, I also want to highlight the incredible recommendations he provided at Mai Kitchen. As I was perusing the menu, Armando took the time to explain the different flavors and options available, which greatly enhanced my dining experience.
Armando's expertise in pairing flavors with various dishes was remarkable. He provided insightful suggestions on which options would complement specific menu items, taking into consideration my personal preferences. His knowledge and passion for the flavors truly shone through as he described the ingredients and techniques used to create each unique taste.
I must say, the recommendations at Mai Kitchen were an absolute delight. Whether it was the tangy and spicy options or the savory and aromatic ones, each one added an extra layer of deliciousness to the already delectable dishes. Armando's guidance in selecting the perfect flavors for each dish truly elevated the taste and allowed me to experience a symphony of flavors.
Moreover, Armando made sure that I had an ample supply of my preferred options throughout the meal. He attentively ensured that my table was well-stocked, ensuring that I never ran out. His attention to detail and commitment to providing an exceptional dining experience were evident in his thoughtful gestures.
I cannot stress enough how Armando's expertise in flavor recommendations enhanced my dining experience at Mai Kitchen. His suggestions were spot-on, and I found myself savoring every bite with the perfect combination of flavors. If you visit Mai Kitchen, I highly recommend seeking Armando's guidance on the available options – he will undoubtedly elevate your meal to new heights.
Love the food here. Eat it weekly
First time there. Food and service were excellent!
Without a reservation you may wait a while. Still worth it. Great customer service and of course delicious thai food and sushi 🍣
Definently in the first top 5 of the area, but not the top. It was a little bit pricey, the Tom Kha Gai and the Mali Chicken made a decent dinner. They do have a good selection of wine by glass or bottle.
The food was good and the portions were very nice. I just think I chose the wrong type of sushi 🍣, but everything else was amazing! Especially those drinks!! Come through
One of our favorite Thai/Sushi places in Atlanta. Great food and service. Love their Maki/Sushi rolls. The ambience of the place is good. I would prefer a less cramped seating arrangement, but not too bad either. Definitely a must visit place.
Nice
This is one of our regular go to places. The food is always consistent and great. I especially enjoy the Pad Thai and the sushi is outstanding as is the service. Definitely worth a visit.
The ambience of Mali is really good. Casual, but very cool decor. Kept the original old brick of the building on the inside, which gives a nice warm feeling.
Amazing pad thai
Atmosphere and ambience is in between casual and fine dining here. Went on a Friday evening but didn't need a reservation as there were plenty of seats (though the inside was booked out so we sat in the heated patio). The food here was what I expected for the price. The thai iced tea wasn't overly sweet and heavy on the (black) tea flavor, different than most other places I've been. The red curry was a two-pepper sign, but I didn't find it spicy at all. Good flavor and slight creaminess to the curry. The tofu in it was fried well and the curry was true to it's original/intended flavor. The pad kee mao (drunken noodles) were made with thin rice noodles instead of the typical wide noodles. They were chewy (al dente) and the vegetables were cooked thoroughly, though the tofu for this dish was pretty squishy (not fried enough to form a coherent skin around). Overall a good spot for a date night or slightly-better-than-average thai food.
The food was really good - loved the Tom Kha soup and the Spider Roll in particular. But the service was pretty lacking. We couldn’t get a waiter/waitress to come over so we could check on our appetizer until after we’d finished the rest of the food. And when she did come by, she argued over whether we ordered the dish.
Obsessed with the spicy vegan role. Never let it go, please!
The staff is really knowledgeable about vegan options. They told me that basically all of their curries and tofu/veggie dishes are vegan as long as they don't have the shrimp symbol, indicating seafood, by them on the menu. I got the red curry with tofu. It came with a half of a cup of rice on the side. It was delicious and had a good bite to it (seems like the spice indicators on the menu are accurate). I was pleased with the meal, but it was overpriced ($18).
They have lots of good seating, both indoor and outdoor with heaters on in the colder months.
Great food, fast, in the neighborhood. Friendly staff, I love Mali
A VA Hi classic ! Amazing cocktails, sushi, and entrees
Great food and atmosphere! Best curry in Atlanta!
I've been here a few times so far and it's really great!
Never had an issue with staff, the inside is very upscale and vibey. The green Curry and red Curry are so freaking good, I'll go back anytime for those. I haven't tried their sushi yet but I'm excited to back!
It's definitely a date night, it runs pretty pricey, unless you get chicken or tofu almost every dish is over the 20 dollar mark, but the portions are filling and the food is good. Would definitely go here for a sit down dinner and a splurge.
Great neighborhood spot for a quick lunch or to meet for a drink.
So so.
The Masana is amazing . Great sushi/sashimi
Lovely neighborhood gem.
Superior Thai food!
First time here.. I love sushi... so let's say I was not disappointed. Food and service was great.
I came here for lunch on a weekday around 12pm and got seated immediately, it wasn’t crowded at all. I ordered the tom kha soup with chicken, it was delicious and a relatively large size bowl! I also got the panang curry and tasted the massaman curry and both were great and the perfect level of spice. My only complaint is that the panang curry portion size for lunch was really small. I would definitely go back, but I think the dinner portion would be more worth it. They also have a sizable parking lot which you can access via North Highland Avenue, but there’s also street parking.
Good ambience. Nice indoor space and outdoor patio as well. Good food selection. Rich flavors.
I have been dining here for years and still find this to be the best Thai Food this side of Bangkok. I actually lived and worked in Bangkok for a number of years and their cooking is the closest I have found to be true Thai food. They also serve sushi here is you prefer a Japanese twist, but I always stick with their Thai dishes. I have tried almost the entire menu and have never been disappointed. The staff is great and easy going, the atmosphere not too loud, and the prices are quite reasonable compared to other Thai restaurants in the area.
My pad kee mao came with thin white noodles instead of wide noodles as it should be. Tastes good though. Also, they charge extra for hot sauce. Not nice.
Massaman curry was excellent and had the tempura veggies were super crispy
Delish an Atlanta icon. One of my very favorites.
Best Thai place in Atlanta guaranteed. Food here is amazing!!! Spicy basil, dumplings! Everything here is great
Soup was cold but sushi good
In terms of sushi, not the move. A bit more expensive than the average roll, and yet, the portions are small.
Three rolls fit in a single takeout box.
It's a beautiful eatery with tasty sushi and Thai .. we are vegetarians so we loved the pad Thai and avacado sushi
Great food and service, highly recommend the fried catfish!
Easily Top 3 Thai restaurants in Atlanta. I order at least once a week. Red curry with chicken is my favorite!!
For the most part my delivery experience was ok. The only thing that could have been better was the Mali Salad. It was very bland, no taste and just not a good choice. Maybe its the type of greens they use, who knows, I won't try again for a while.
The only other suggestion would be to steam/cook the veggies more. My veggies were super super tough crunchy and just not cooked throughly. I had the Mali chicken with 3 scallops. The dish was great, but it definitely has the potential to be Wonderful, Amazing, to die for if Veggies are done correctly.
I also had the crunch Salmon Roll and the 2 piece Scallop Tempura both phenomenal!
I have been enjoying this restaurant for 25+ years now. The food quality, recipes, service, and convenience make Mali my go to spot for Sushi and the 2nd best Thai food next to Nam.
The flavors are delicious! The wait staff is attentive, friendly, and accurate. Worth every dollar. It's a go-to favorite of ours.
My opinion has changed. I like Mali. I made dinner for two out of appetizers/starters and spent $50 for two. Nice meal. Love the rolls and the tempura
Probably my favorite Thai restaurant for a long time but this time something was missing. It was almost like they were a new restaurant. I've noticed it with other restaurants I've gone to after covid.
Came in for a quick lunch right before closing. The space was really beautifully decorated and spacious for large events if interested. My waiter sonny was really nice and recommended the Frozen lime mint drink which was delicious. I belive the two rolls I had were the mali special and the firecracker which had a little bit of hot sauce(not hot at all)on it. There is parking available across the street and free 2hr street parking. Will definitely be back
Lovely
I would give them 6 stars if I could, I dropped some cash from my pocket when I was eating. They contacted me to return the money even though I had already left the restaurant. I doubt many people would show that level of consideration or honesty. You earned a loyal customer for life.
That aside, the restaurant still deserves a 5 star rating based on the fresh, authentic, healthy Thai dishes served here. Their seafood is always fresh and the staff friendly. This is my goto place for Thai in Atlanta.
And to that bartender- a special thank you! You can’t know how much I appreciate that.
Used to be a great place but now they nickle and dime you on everything . Brown rice is $5 the service is poor and the food quality has deteriorated .
Great sushi
Pad see ew isn't on the menu but they made it anyway and it was delicious.
We dined at Mali last night for the first time and loved it. We probably spent a couple hundred dollars and ordered an amazing sushi spread with rolls and sashimi and nigiri, then enjoyed some Thai entrees afterwards. Cherry, their bartender, made us delicious cocktails. I tried lychee and pear martini, both with Hendricks as a preference. Service was just about the right tempo, not too slow, nor too fast. We spent at least 2 hours there and did not feel rushed. Bathrooms were very clean and functional, and easy to access from the standard seating inside the restaurant. I will say my only constructive feedback are the high top seating - I do not recommend these if you suffer from lower back problems, but rather, sit in the standard seating tables for lumbar support. We avoided the patio. The upper level restaurant is very nice, not too loud, and generally a good mix of locals (it was the evening, after Summerfest). Parking was super easy, free, no hassle with valet or lines, in the back of the building under a canopy of oaks. We enjoyed a little promenade after dinner, strolling up to local celebrity Paolo for his hand-crafted Italian gelato. All in all, a really perfect way to spend dinner.
Best sushi I've had in a while. Everything we ordered was delicious. Great service as well. The patio is very nice
Good selection of pan-Asian options. Particularly liked the spicy garlic curry
The soup smelled like a dirty wet rag and I ordered a salmon roll and what came out was white fatty fish, I have never seen anything like that in my entire life. Do not recommend!!!
Sashimi doesn't taste fresh
Mali is our regular Thai place, we get take out nearly every week. For those who stay away from mixed asian cuisine places, I fully understand. But the sushi is perfectly acceptable and it's one of the better Thai places in town.
