Best restaurant I’ve been too in a long time! The food is exceptional - I’m still drooling over the ramen 🍜 it was the best broth I’ve ever tasted - both times I’ve tried it! The drinks were perfect with the meal! The service was amazing! Everyone was so friendly and fun ❤️ The tacos were out of this world! I traveled two hours to eat this masterpiece 🤤
All the food is made from scratch, and it tastes amazing. PLEASE save room for a slice of cake! They have homemade cake, and it is a must to order a slice!! Honestly, if you want the best dessert in Deland, go here and get some cake. In case I didn't already mention it... you need to try their cake
I really wanted to like this place, but sadly it’s just another Volusia County Asian Restaurant that pales in comparison to what’s available in Orlando.
The green curry sausage sliders had virtually zero curry flavor, the sausage patties were pretty bland, and there was so little chili mayo on them that I literally had to ask for a side cup of it (which also was insufficient because the side cup I got had about 0.1oz worth of mayo in it). The yakiudon also didn’t do much for me. The noodles were gummy, and the fried pork belly was incredibly tough and hard to eat.
My server was pleasant, and the restaurant itself is cute enough, though it’s a bit cramped inside.
Mongoose f’n rules. This is my favorite restaurant in West Volusia, maybe central Florida. The food is absolutely amazing. The Dan Dan Noodles and the Hot Spicy Beef Pan Seared Noodles are EPIC! Tacos are fantastic as well. I don’t eat sweets, so for my birthday they made me a Birthday Pastrami Sandwich, candle and all. A+, Two Thumbs Up, Great Family Fun.
I don’t think there’s a best word that can describe this place. I love it and can’t wait to keep going back. I would pass by this place multiple times and always wondered what it was. I bit the bullet last night and went with my husband, sister, and her partner last night. Alyssa is great and hilarious. Her vibe is amazing, and she is so down to earth. The food is the best Asian food I have found in deland! I was amazed by how good it was. I can’t wait to keep going back. Do not skip on dessert either. I’m so thankful I got some because it was amazing! I’m so happy I got to try it, the meals were excellent full of flavor as it should be to a perfection. So glad to have found this place. AMAZING!
This is a quaint little restaurant that you should definitely stop by for an evening of great food and drinks. Alyssa was awesome as our server and made great recommendations for food. The drink selection is amazing with beer, wine, and sake options. Near downtown Deland, this restaurant is a must.
Great atmosphere , service and wonderful noodles . Prices are reasonable and portions generous . I agree that the Mango cake is awesome . When in Deland , I will definitely revisit
Some of the best noodles I’ve ever had in my life!! The staff were warm, welcoming, and the food was incredible. The egg roll is to die for!

Okay so this place started out really good. But the last few times I’ve been the food has been overly salty the Dan Dan noodles to be exact and they don’t have taco shells therefore you cant order tacos.its been months sadly , Which sucks because the pork belly tacos are the best I’ve ever had. And. The homemade hot sauce is fire. Hope they can pull it together asap.
Great find just off the main!
Excellent service and food, we all had noodle dishes and split an egg roll. Beer and wine available as well.
Very clean inside, too cold to sit outside that evening but patio did look inviting.
Limited parking so maybe don’t drive your extended cab or suburban.
This is a one of a kind place. Menu changes but everything is amazing. The staff seem to truly love their jobs and it shows. This place deserves more love.
How did I not know this place was here! Old location was Chicas which I loved. Ordered to go, ready in 30 mins and delicious! Pork belly and noodles, egg rolls and pistachio cake! Unfortunately they were out of rice due to rice cooker was done but the food did not disappoint.
Love everything about this place and the people in it!
We were a party of 8 and they let us sit in the patio. It felt like a private area. The place has a pretty fun and thematic atmosphere. The food was delicious. Couldn’t pick just one. The pork belly tacos, Dan Dan noodles, steak tacos were the best for me. I tried the mango and the pistachio cake, moist and delicious. Our server, Chloe, was great! She made great recommendations and kept up with the big party and everyone’s requests.
I hate to say this, but I normally don’t do reviews but this restaurant needs to be recognized. The food is chef’s kiss delicious and every bite got a so good and yum from my family. The dishes are amazingly seasoned and prepared. There is a passion for this cuisine and it shows in every bite. Service is amazing, atmosphere is amazing, and the cake is what sugar addiction is about. It was an absolute pleasure eating the food and can’t wait to come back with my family and enjoy again.
Alyssa is amazing, best server ever!! EVERYONE SHOULD GO HERE!!!!! ITS DELICIOUSLY AMAZING!!
What an absolute gem. Best quality dishes I've had for ages. The noodles are money!!!
I've been here a few times now and never disappointed food is always great and the cake is amazing. I always enjoy coming here. It's a fairly new place so please stop in and give it a try you will not be disappointed. The fried pork belly for an appetizer is fantastic.

Noodles and cake are amazing
Sat at the outdooor patio which was lovely and they had good music playing. Staff were friendly but the the waitress really talked up every dish, setting our expectations too high. Regarding the fried rice, she said, “it was life changing.”
We ordered fried rice, Yakiudon noodles, and green curry sausage sliders. None of the dishes were particularly amazing. Restaurant supposedly makes their own noodles and I’ll say the noodles did have great texture however each dish fell short when it came to actual flavor. Minimal sauce, minimal spice - it was just bland. Portion sizes were too small for the price you pay.
Between my wife and I, we ordered 2 appetizers, 1 entree, and 2 glasses of saki. Total came out to just under $100 after tip and tax and I was still kinda hungry after.
Place has lots of potential - if the chef is open to suggestions and the waitress stays grounded in reality.

First time stopping in today! The egg rolls were excellent! Hot and Spicy noodles and Yakisoba were out of this world delicious! Decided to take two slices of cake to go (Mango and Pistachio). Best cake I have had in a very long time! Great Service as well!
Everything was excellent and the atmosphere was cozy, quiet and comfortable. Service couldn't have been any better.
A lucky find. We were driving around aimlessly and saw a sign for this place and decided to check it out. It was not busy at the time, which is criminal given how good it was. Alyssa answered all of our questions and made sure we knew what everything was. The food was ready pretty quickly, and delicious, perfectly seasoned, nicely presented, and good portion size. Alyssa had also recommended we try their cake for dessert. Best. Cake. Ever. We tried the pistachio and the mango. I don’t care for pistachio, but I would order this again in a heartbeat. And the mango? Light, fresh, not overly sweet, chunks of real mango, and the icing was perfectly light and creamy to complement the mango. If I’m in the area again I’ll definitely be going back!
Fantastic place! Food was delicious, I got the Yakisoba with tofu and also tried the egg roll. Highly recommend. Server was friendly and attentive And we had a party of 11 for a birthday celebration. I will be back and others in the party were saying the same.
Absolutely the best restaurant in deland, coming from a local. The food is incredible.
It feels like you’re at dinner party at someone’s house a lil bit and it’s so cute and cozy!! Food is bomb, we’ve always had the same waitress and she’s a sweetie. Love this place!

Tasty and creative menu! Great service from Alyssa. Outdoor seating area is pup friendly. We will definitely be back again.
This is an amazing new restaurant with a unique take on Asian street food.
Pork Belly Taco
Asahi Beer
Hot Spicy Beef pan noodles
Mango Cake
Everything was beyond expectation. Big flavors, perfect portions, and great service from Alyssa. Mongoose is a definite "must visit" in DeLand!
Went here last week to celebrate my birthday and everything was fantastic! Can't recommend enough. I've thought about the food several times since will be making plans to go again soon. The pistachio cake was also next level. 12/10!!
Excellent service, cozy, artistic, and upbeat atmosphere. Most importantly the food…We had the lemongrass asada tacos- to die for and a very good portion size! Will definitely be back. This is a gem of a spot in Deland. If you haven’t been, you just go. They always have different specials to try. It certainly will not disappoint.

Omg!!!! The Hong-kong pasta was amazing!!! Desserts are homemade and my husband is going to try their tacos tonight! Great food, and Alyssa is the best with customer service! My new favorite spot!
Stellar food , but very limited menu. Appetizers like egg rolls , rangoons , pot stickers , etc. would be greatly appreciated. Amanda was a great server . As an aside , you have to have shrimp on the menu , as every Asian restaurant does.
Amazing people. Amazing food. Worth the visit for sit down or To-Go. Alyssa was helpful and friendly & the kitchen team is top notch. Highly recommend to anyone wanting fusion food that hits hard. 🔥🔥🔥
Incredible food, warm atmosphere, you feel like you're a regular the first time you go. We had pork Bella and asada tacos, some of the best pork belly I've ever had. Also the soba noodles which were very refreshing and delicious. Would highly recommend this place. Also the bill was so cheap! And they have Japanese beer, asahi and sapporo!
Alyssa was ridiculously cool, the food was freaking awesome. Try the hot noodles, the lemon grass tacos asade tacos and the Dan Dan noodles.
Food was good wish they had more of a selection on the menu.
Great spot, great staff, great food. Hot n spicy noodles actually have some spunk.
Cute little spot across from DeLand Police station, small menu but nice
Just wow!
Nice chill place. Service is great 👍🏿
Service was great and the food was amazing! Can't wait to come back! We had the spicy beef noodles and the ramen special (highly recommend!)
We were looking forward to the meal, first timers. Enjoyed it for the most part, falvors were good but very oily and apparently loaded with salt. Wasn't sitting well a couple of hours later. It ended up being a disappointing experience.
Fresh and delicious! If they warn you it's spicy, listen! Will definitely be back soon.
This small restaurant off the main strip in the house with a wrap-around porch, where Chica’s Cuban Cafe started out, proves the axiom that good things come in small packages. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Cozy and intimate inside, the service was friendly and personable. The menu is teeny, tiny but doesn’t have to be any larger imho as the Asian tacos on one side or the card make great appetizers and the noodle bowls were absolutely scrumptious and substantial. The imported Japanese Saki was perfect with the meal. We had noodles left over to take home. We look forward to returning as soon as we get a chance!
amazing food, good prices, good people. jason puts his heart in this food and it truly shows.
We ordered a couple different noodle dishes from here to try it for the first time. Everything we had was excellent and full of flavor. I even took home a few slices of their homemade cake for our kids to have. We will certainly be coming back!
Amazing food. Hidden jem in Deland.
New Asian spot in Deland. The vibe is very nice and the food is great! Would recommend trying.
Update:
Sorry, but I will have to downgrade my rating to 3 stars. I ordered the Shanghai noodles and it’s was extremely salty. Basically inedible. Also the meat was very dry. Please taste the food before serving it.
Mongoose is in an older house on Howry. I'm told the location was home to Chica's and Spellbound. It very clean and quaint inside. Our server was perfect we waited for nothing we picked two tacos - the lemon grass beef and the pork belly as appetizers, then my wife had the Hot Spicy Beef Pan Fired Noodles and I had the Shanghai Noodles with Stocky Sweet Pork Spare Rib Pieces. I can't say enough about how good it was. Veryfrrsh and the flavors were amazing.
It's a Friday night and we didn't have to wait an hour.for a table. Love it here. You can't go wrong
Great noodles and tacos with unique flavors
Mongoose is a great new space here in Deland, and a blessing for those who love Asian food. Service is quick and friendly, and the chef/owner makes everything with careful precision. Delicious. Immaculately clean space as well. Lots of spacious outdoor seating. Please support small businesses!! No day but today!!
This past Sunday, Rikki and I headed to Mongoose restaurant in Deland for dinner. We stumbled upon this gem a few months ago on a Sunday evening when most restaurants wind down early. Its theme is centered around Asian street food. It is in the spot formerly occupied by Spellbound Café.
The building looks like a converted single-family house from the 1930s and exudes charm from the moment you enter the narrow driveway leading to a small parking lot behind the building. From the parking lot, you enter through the covered porch, where there is outdoor seating. Upon entering, you're greeted by a warm atmosphere, with a few intimate rooms and a two-seat bar offering a prime view of the bustling kitchen. Mesmerizing 4K aerial scenes of overwater bungalows in Thailand draw your eyes to a TV mounted on the wall. Adjacent is a bookshelf stocked with titles like “Mission Street Food”, “Smoke and Pickles”, and works by Anthony Bourdain. Behind the bar is a whimsical neon fortune cat wielding chopsticks over a noodle bowl. Adding to the ambiance was the soulful melody of a Chris Cornell song. The great playlist continued throughout the evening.
Opting for our favorite seats at the bar, Jenna, bustling behind the counter, welcomed us with a warm familiar smile. We brought our cribbage board and were able to play a couple of games during the evening. In the kitchen, Jason, the chef and mastermind behind the menu, was working and chopping effortlessly. Jason proudly introduced us to the new wine list, curated with the expertise of a Master of Wine. We ordered a bottle of Heinrichshof Zeltinger Mosel Riesling. It had notes of lime and wet stone with bright crisp acidity and a lime zest finish. It perfectly complemented the flavors that followed.
We perused the menu and settled on the Fried Nikuman Pork Belly Tacos for an appetizer. It was a revelation. This delightful dish features crispy pork belly nestled within a soft Nikuman taco shell, accompanied by a medley of Tsukemono cabbage, onion, cilantro, lime, and Thai chili. Each bite was literally a symphony of flavors, the pickled cabbage harmonizing with the succulent pork belly. It was so creative. I could eat a pile of those tacos.
For our entrée, Rikki savored one of the last servings of the Dan Dan Noodles. These aromatic noodles are infused with the rich flavors of five-spice pork, sesame, cilantro, peanuts, and chili oil, creating a mouthwatering fusion of textures and tastes. Meanwhile, I ordered the "HOT" Spicy Beef Pan Fried Noodles, a fiery yet flavorful concoction. This dish features tender Asada beef stir-fried with house-made chili crunch, shallots, and fried garlic melded with pan-fried noodles.
As the evening unfolded, Jason shared snippets of his culinary journey, from his ambition to run a taco food truck inspired by a trip to Mexico City to his mastery of noodles acquired during his travels in Japan. It was evident that his passion infused every dish with authenticity and creativity. He generously shared a glass of Domaine de la Solitude, Pessac-Leognan, and we toasted with him. The wine was complex, with notes of blackberry fruit, mint, bell pepper, and graphite, balanced with a long finish.
Amidst the hustle and bustle, Jenna tempted us with a large slice of freshly baked blueberry lemon cake. It was bursting with flavor without being too sweet or dense and crafted with care.
In the end, Rikki emerged victorious in our cribbage games.
Our experience at Mongoose restaurant was nothing short of exceptional. From the charming ambiance to the impeccable service, every aspect of our evening was delightful. Jason's passion for food shone through in every bite, and his dedication to his craft was evident in the creativity, flavors, and presentation. To top it off, the warm hospitality of Jenna made us feel welcome and at home. Without a doubt, Mongoose restaurant has earned our enthusiastic endorsement. We will return.
Delicious food and great service from Zoe! Love the atmosphere both inside and outside. Will definitely be back!
Zoey was awesome, the food is excellent and the atmosphere is so chill. Great little place.
First time here, absolutely love it! Zoe was fantastic, will definitely be back.
Only regret is that we took so long to try this place!
Delicious noodle place with a very small menu. Everything we’ve had thus far has been delicious. The shiitake mushroom noodles is the best and vegetarian. Cute little place with only beer and wine selection. Our fave noodle bar now!
The sliders are out of this world
Tacos are best priced in all of town for the quality and size
Plus which is the biggest plus they are open on Mondays.
Mongoose Mondays!
Absolutely delicious. We tried many items on the menu, and each one was fantastic. Service was good and the ambiance is great. 10/10 recommend.
Yummy yummy fusion food. We found out this new place because all other places were closed but surprisingly we really enjoyed it. The outdoor and indoor seating are both super lovely. We came in pretty late and they even catered to my friend’s “special” request. Definitely will come back.
What is there to say about this place? Oh, I got it. Freaking rad. You want tacos? Done. Soba? Bet. Something you never heard of but saw and now you need it? They got it.
Best food in Deland - and great vegetarian options too! Truly excellent flavor profiles and a fun atmosphere.
Wonderful staff, wonderful food! Highly recommend! Telling all my friends/coworkers/family
If you’re looking for something different in DeLand, this is it. Didn’t recognize any of the food, yet everything was delicious. Nothing there for kids yet and it is brand new so they are still developing their menu . Their Asian Fusion food was outstanding and flavorful. Definitely a must try.For desert the mango cake was moist and incredibly yummmy.
Awesome atmosphere and you can't beat the food. I definitely will be coming back.
Amazing food , amazing service ! 🤤 Will definitely come back and bring my bf ! they have gluten free and vegan selections as well which is great !
Food was delicious! Waitress was on top of it! Atmosphere was clean and relaxing 😌
Mongoose was incredible. The atmosphere is cozy, like a back alley Yokocho neighborhood bar in Tokyo. Friendly staff, fun design and comfortable seating. Clean bathroom and visibly clean and professional kitchen.
The owner and head chef was clearly inspecting every dish that went out for any imperfections and even stopped at a couple tables when he had a second to get feedback from patrons. Jason Labombard obviously knows his stuff and isn’t afraid to experiment.
Beer and wine are available but the star for us was the food. I brought friends so we could share. Each of us were able to order a dish or 2 and eventually ordered the entire menu, since it’s created daily it’s typically only 5 or 6 items currently. The plates are designed for sharing with the exception of the a la carte tacos - which you won’t want to share. Our whole order including beer and wine was less than $100.
Every dish from the signature Dan-Dan Noodles, a notable street-food favorite of the Sichuan Provence, to the mega sized egg rolls; to the pork belly and lemongrass fried rice was amazing. Presented on beautiful dishes, each one topped with a house made sauce that popped in a different way.
Mongoose is Asian street food - meets North American fusion - in the best possible way. The creativity and love that clearly goes into every plate would be rare in a city the size of Orlando. To see it on the ground floor of a historic house in downtown DeLand is nothing short of a miracle and a gift to our little town. Please come, please bring friends, and definitely bring your appetite!
Had the Tacos, excellent choice. Great portion size.
