Straightforward Thai dishes with adjustable spice levels presented in a plain wood-paneled setting.
The perfect ending to a wonderful day. My friend and I shared Red Curry Delight with Chicken and Spicy Eggplant with Tofu (each $13.95). Hot tea was $4 and Thai Iced Tea $5. Delicious food at very reasonable prices. Attentive service. Located a block away from the Capitol South Metro, so the perfect place to eat before or after visiting the Library of Congress.
Great Thai food and service. We came kind of at the tail end of the shops hours where the kitchen was gonna close in 10 minutes, so felt a tad pressured to rush the food and drink choices (not by them—they were nice and patient—just in general). Our drinks, appetizers, and entrees ended up still being so tasty and piping hot! The chicken wings were so crispy and the sweet and sour sauce they had elevated them! The crab rangoons were super delicious. My SO and I got got chicken and beef Pad Thai dishes, reapectively (my rushed choice, but hey, can't go wrong) and it was definitely some of the best I've had in a minute!
Most importantly, the service was great despite them winding down operations and they went out of their way to accommodate and not rush us, still checking on us to make sure we were enjoying our food and whatnot. I highly recommend this spot!
THE place for inexpensive authentic as-can-be Thai food popular within the GenZ government interns who frequent this long-standing joint that survived the pandemic with good old fashioned delicious food.
We love this place and it’s food and come here enough to know a good thing when we eat it. The drinks come heavy, the apps come fast, and the entrees never disappoint. Come here for the early crowd and Happy Hour specials. We had the spring rolls, fried wontons, yellow and red curries where you can adjust spiciness. Careful not to get ahead of yourself, looks can be deceiving.
The staff was lovely and squeezed us in before a reservation. They take early reservations on the weekend. Was busy but we were very well taken care of. The food was delicious and the location is close to the library of Congress
Delicious! Very glad that I stopped in for a meal. Highly recommend Talay Thai to those local to DC and anyone in town.
This restaurant deserve more rating than what they are. Foods was delicious and taste authentic.
Don't you dare harass me and come at me like that cause i don't tip you. Tipping is a choice, get along with it. I pay my food, not your salary.
Best drunken noodles I've had in DC!

Good...
Loved my pad thai and the tofu was really good, i was just hoping for some more vegetables in the mix. The host was very accommodating, great lunch spot overall!

Went there twice with my husband we both loved the food and Mai Thai
Im Restaurant war sehr laut und dunkel. Tische sind klein und Stühle waren dreckig. Mann muss minimum 18% Trinkgeld geben.. Trotzdem war gut besucht..
The food was decent but the server was very rude, if you expect good service, this isn't the place
I ordered the Sampler and the Pad Thai...how can you mess up the latter? Third rate food effort at best; will not revisit

Enjoyed happy hour here! Impressed by how long the happy hour is! Food was yummy and drinks were good too!
Their Drunken Noodles are so underrated
Love this place, yes great HH but the food is truly amazing!!! And I love all their chili oil options. One of the best places in DC!
I love the delicious Thai food here! The staff is always nice. Safe to say I’m a very regular customer. I recommend the tilapia in curry 👍🏾!
Very pricy and mediocre flavor at best.
Food was decent but they changed mandatory tip of 20% without asking us. This is not ok or legal.
Our group of six enjoyed a delicious lunch at Talay Thai. The service was attentive, and they were great at accommodating my friend's dietary restrictions. The food arrived quickly and satisfied everyone's taste buds. We particularly enjoyed the pad see ew, tofu panang curry, and shrimp green curry. The pineapple fried rice and shrimp fried rice were also delicious.
The only area for improvement might be the atmosphere. While it wasn't unpleasant, it could benefit from a bit more ambiance to match the quality of the food.
No service but 20% mandatory tip
Grabbed this as was closest to Capitol Bldg and kids were starving after a tour. SO happy with everything we ordered. Delicious flavors and textures, plus fresh ingredients. We originally ordered for take out, but ended up sitting on their cute patio and the owner was very gracious about the change.
Very tasty food and excellent service. It's interesting, this felt like two restaurants in one: Outside, well-dressed, young capitol-hill types were enjoying drinks after work; inside, families and small groups of friends had dinner. All our dishes were quite tasty (the pad thai was maybe a little too sweet, but otherwise great). We really enjoyed the food. Portion sizes were perfect, and our waitress was very attentive and made us feel welcome. I would definitely recommend!
Dinned there with my girlfriend, we went for the happy hour which is from 4-9:30pm. The drinks were HEAVY. Certainly will get your money‘s worth on the drinks which are $6 during happy hour. We ordered the fried wontons, fried dumplings and chicken wings which were all stellar and $5. But the main dish that really sold us was the drunken noodles. They were spicy and packed with flavor.
Food was great hidden gem down the street from the dome! Nice place
insanely cheap (really good) food and drinks right by the capitol. However, everyone in this establishment is 22 and a Hill rat. Not a bad thing per se, but know what you’re getting into.
Happy hour until 9:30!! Featuring 2.50 Miller Lite
Very delicious! And it is just at the corner of the metro station
I ordered the calamari and was disappointed to find that most of the calamari were actually chunks of fried, heavily battered broccoli, which made me feel like I was cheated out of the dish. Drunken noodle was a bit bland, and the Thai tea was a bit watered down. At least service was good.
We visited this restaurant today. We were received after 4 minutes we entered the restaurant. We are actually students and I feel like it depends on the customers to give tip or not. But the lady that received us was so rude with us just by the fact that we skipped the tip page while paying. She canceled the payment and went back to the tips page again and forced us to pay her the tip amount. The food was good we tried shrimp tempura, green curry and drunken noodles along with iced tea. I really liked tempura and green curry.
Laid back atmosphere. Good food.
Very attentive and kind waitstaff
I really like the food. Well seasoned and always hot. it does have smaller portions though.
Happy hour here is amazing, it’s so cozy and everyone’s having a great time, good and drinks are very inexpensive and it was all around an awesome place! Will definitely be coming back to try the rest of the menu
Very good, not too pricey, highly recommend!
We loved our lunch here. Very delicious and spiced just right
Bad food ! Worst service !
The food was amazing!
Told me 15 mins took 45 mins. I have a short lunch break NEVER AGAIN!
Amazing prices
Happy hour all night
Authentic flavored thai food
Close to the Capitol building. My wife and I shared a plate of drunken noodles and some crispy spring rolls. The food was very good; very satisfying.
Basil fried rice was perfect spice level and very tasty!
Excellent service for convenient lunch.
Restaurant is walking distance from the Capitol and Library of Congress. Came here to eat after our Capitol tour. Really liked the Pad See Ew
We had some excellent and tasteful vegetarian dishes.
Great food. Come for drinks, cheap and strong. Awesome service.
Loved the food ! The waiter basically forced me to add a 25% tip by showing me at least five times the 25% button. We left with a bittersweet feeling because the food was fantastic. To end on a positive note, the other waitress was adorable !!!
Food was good but we were not pleased by the fact that our main course were served before the appetizer and not at the same time. Had to ask to wait twice and they force the tip amount in the end.
Fortunately everything tasted good but the service experience needs improvement.
Got takeout for a vegetarian curry (only vegetables, specifically requested no meat) and found a piece of chicken in there when I got home. A shame because otherwise it tasted fine--not the best I've had but not the worst.
The curry is amazing!!! 🤩
Horrible customer service. Dont waste ur time going to this place its not a tourist friendly specially if you bring your kids. Very rude attitude from an old men that works there, probably was the owner or some employee that doesn't like tourists with kids 😡😡
customer service really bad
Walked in, the owner told me they were closed the seated other people afterwards while I was waiting for the rest of my group to show.
The place was very busy which is usually a good sign. All 3 pad Thai noodle entrees the noodles were very over cooked and bland. Spicy eggplant dish that my husband tried was very good. They auto charged 20% gratuity on 4 entrees, which was frustrating, because they didn’t say anywhere that they auto charge for 4 (typically for Parties of 6 or more) and they were still expecting a tip after that.
The food was very good and fresh. The food came very fast and the owner was very friendly!! In addition the prices are low!
No one was at the host stand when we came in, and it took a good 3 minutes before someone saw us, looked irritated that we were there, and then seated us. The place was slammed, and it seemed like they only had two waiters. I know that means they are stretched thin but I was still shocked when the waiter greeted us by saying "Hurry up and tell me what you want" white motioning with his head to pick up the pace. When the food did come, they got my girlfriends order wrong. We didn't bother saying anything as we had comments soon and wanted to make good time. The padthai was decent but not worth waiting for so long and dealing with bad service.
Good spot for happy hour. Solid Pad see ew
Their tom yum soup is really great, the penang curry is nice as well but not as balanced in flavors as Thai food normally is. We asked them to make the curry more spicy which made it a bit better. Papaja salad is way too salt and not nice at all
Really fantastic food and service. My wife is Thai and she loved it.
Have ordered red curry and green curry! So far this is the best place near Navy Yard. Highly recommend.
This place has great food. It's pretty authentic and located close to Capitol Hill. They have excellent happy hour specials and also allow for take-out ordering in advance throug their website. Probably one of the best restaurants near the House office buildings.
Great food. Super quick service.
Fabulous meal. Authentic flavors in comfortable, unpretentious setting.
Really great food! It’s pretty close to the Capitol and to the metro stop too. The food is really delicious, portion size is decent, and the price is really good for DC. Probably one of the more affordable options for Thai food in DC city proper. Thai ice tea was good too.
It’s really good the taste WOW ! Give satisfaction of my mouth 👄 Thank You
Delicious! Some of the best Pad Thai I've ever had.
I could not eat any of the order, there was too much sugar added to all the dishes!!! Ridiculous!!
A true hidden gem - cheap food and drinks in downtown DC! All the food I’ve had here is great. Duck Red Curry is my favorite Longggg happy hour!
My only complaint is I wish they would play a little background music. When the place starts emptying out, it seems like EVERYONE can hear your conversations.
The wait staff were very kind and eager to assist. The food was flavorful; thankfully they were generous with their portions! The price was very reasonable for the area. It wasn't very busy, so it's a great respite from the busy National Mall area nearby.
Absolutely fantastic and very welcoming atmosphere! This place is a gem…I’ll be back.
The food is excellent. I got spiciness level 4 and was not disappointed. The service is great as well, our server was friendly and quick.
Good local restaurant. Waiter apologized for service. I thought it was good service considering he served the entire restaurant by himself and it was almost full. Would definitely return.
Best happy hour in DC! Love this place.
Talay Thai is a neighborhood staple. The menu has tons of options and the Happy Hour specials cannot be beat. Not to mention that the staff is wonderful. It does get busy on week nights, so make sure you call for a reservation!
The absolute best!
I was really looking forward to getting takeout from here, but honestly, I wasn't impressed. The service was solid, but the food was ehhh. I felt my app and entree needed more flavor. Will try again on my next trip to DC. Perhaps I just didn't get the right dish.
I got the Pad Peanut Sauce where you can pick your own meat and chicken was recommended. It. Was. Amazing. I pride myself on making a pretty good peanut sauce for tofu my family all loves but this is definitely better. I wish I was a good enough cook to figure out what they did different but I will have to be content knowing I can come back and have the dish again anytime.
I get the pad see ew every time and it's delish. Recommend.
3.5 star food, 5 star happy hour specials. $2.50 a beer ain’t bad by any measure
Excellent food!
The food was amazing, :)
It was a busy Halloween weekend but they took care of quickly and professionally. Oh yeah, the food was great, too!
I can't speak for the food, but would recommend that anyone using the online ordering feature beware. I placed an online order after hours for the next day, and was immediately charged.
I arrived to pick up the order - midday on a Saturday - but the restaurant was closed (no indication of a change in hours on the website). I assumed the charge would automatically be reversed as a clear mistake, since there was no possibility of the order being fulfilled.
When this did not occur, I messaged restaurant a few days later, and on not receiving a response, I called. The person on the phone was short with me and demanded that I call back at another time later that day.
I did so, and was told that the charge had already been reversed and it would show up in a few days. I waited about 2 weeks, no refund. Contacted the restaurant again with no response. A month after the order, I was finally able to resolve everything through my bank.
Loved it
The prices in the menu were not up to date, plus we were charged addionally 20% gratitude, so at the end we have payed almost twice the price that we thought the meal will cost.
My first choice for Thai take out.
THE place for inexpensive authentic as-can-be Thai food popular within the GenZ government interns who frequent this long-standing joint that survived the pandemic with good old fashioned delicious food.

Вкусно, дёшево и рядом с Капитолием.
Good food, big portions
Awesome Thai food with a great patio area. The food was very tasty and patio spot was great for dining outside. Staff was very friendly, and the street the restaurant is on is not crazy busy, and has big tress that provide great shade. Definitely recommend checking this spot out. Full bar too!
Great food! I was able to try three of their dishes during my trip to DC, and all three were fantastic. I especially recommend their curries!
Food was average. But 20% tip was automatically added to the check without prior notice...
Great and authentic Thai food close to the Capitol.
Delicious drunken noodles. A few vegetarian options. Nice outdoor seating area
Excellent for lunch, after work, or late night. Good food, cheap drinks and innovative Thai cocktails.
Poor service. Beware closes 30 minutes or more before advertised hours.
Nice food i got.
Food was pretty good... Service was great
I left my phone there and I was able to retrieve it before they closed. Good Wonton soup, Gzoya and Shrimp Lo mein. Too noisy though, couldn't have a decent conversation. But still very good food! Would definitely recommend eating here!
Tasty food. Great service. A nice neighborhood Thai spot that I would come back to again.
Always a great experience. Service is good. The food is delicious. My favorite in the peanut chicken.
I love the option of indoor or outdoor seating. And the happy hour specials are really good.
Amazing service and great value !
After asking the restaurant to not make the food spicy they decided to ignore my ask and delivery typically Thai food (extremely spicy). I could not even say how the food was because I can't consume food that spicy. That's why one star, it does not reflect the food quality/taste but their ability to listen to their customer.
My favorite pad see ew that I’ve had in DC so far! Veggie springs rolls were very crunchy and good too. We’ll definitely be back again!
Recently placed an order for pick-up here and had a terrible experience! Beware. Upon arrival for pick-up, I was asked my name and they could not find my order. I showed them the electronic receipt and they said no problem, it will be ready in 5 minutes. I am asked to take a seat and wait. 25 minutes later, the waiter comes back and tells me I set my order for pickup at 7pm. Not true, I showed him my electronic receipt again, my order was set for pickup at 5:45pm. He asked me to continue waiting, another 10 minutes go by, before he finally realized he has my order ready the whole time. I ended up waiting more than 30 minutes for an order pick up, was never offered a drink or any apologies for the error and left with food that had been sitting out and lost its hot temp. Look I understand mistakes happen but the terrible customer service, being blamed that it was my fault and not even saying, "I am really sorry for the confusion, thank you for waiting". Very very disappointed.
Great service ans environment
Poor service
Great food. Great service. Happy hour!
Awesome!
This is our go-to Thai place for lunch. Just down the hill from the Capitol. Friendly service and generous portions. Outdoor seating as well, whuch is great when they are not doing construction, which seems like all the time!
i agree, Talay Thai should have a higher rating. The service was great, and don't get me started on the food! everything was perfect i loved it. the food was delicious, the presentation of the food was gorgeous, can't wait to come again soon.
Talay Thai was great! the food was outstanding and absolutely delicious!! The presentation of the food was very pleasing aswell! i hope to visit again soon!
Great service. Nice neighborhood place.
The food was great, the place outside was awesome. The waiters were very polite
I had take out here and the customer service is amazing. They took the time to call me as soon as they received my online order to inform me that the mango salad was out. On top of that the staff went above and beyond to make sure that I had something else, taking the time to offer me a plethora of options. And to top it all off the food was really good!!
I had the Pad Thai and Green Curry. The Pad Thai was too sweet for me. The Green Curry was good; would be better with brown rice. Good service. I look forward to trying something else the next time I eat here.
Our absolute favorite! Talay Thai has the best happy hour in DC and the staff could not be kinder. Super highly recommend stopping in for a drink and the spring rolls!
Best Thai around. Decent prices. Tom Ka, drunken noodles and red curry delight are all top notch.
Not sure why this place has anything below a 4.5. Luckily my roommate doesn’t look at reviews and took us here on Friday. I got the red curry with duck and it was amazing especially for the price. 10/10 recommend.
Awesome . Little in the wall near the capital building. Worth every reasonable dollar that they charge
Know the food before you come into the restaurant, or you’ll get lost in the menu. Great appetizers, make sure to try the Thai tea, it’s sort of like the Thai version of horchata, if you’re familiar with Mexican food.
Should have left a review years ago. My friend turned me onto this place a few years back and it has become my go to carry out in the Navy Yard/se/Sw area ever since The customer service and food is always amazing. Never feel shorted by portions or seasoning. The staff is very kind as are the happy hour pours 😬. I like that this place is a Thai restaurant the most. They don’t offer five other types of Cuisine as many other restaurants offer I the area (positive for quality here). Five stars for their efforts with dine-in service during Covid and positive attitude.
The Red Curry is sooo good! The heat and the flavor is on point!
My husband had Mussaman Curry and he thought is was very good. He asked for hot was and the heat was just right and not very hot.
The Thai iced tea was delicious and worth a try!
The drunken noodles with beef had lots of flavor.
The Pad Thai was amazing and the pineapple fried rice with chicken was a winner as well.
Our table of 5 received really good service and we are leaving full and glad we came!!!
This definitely a place to try!
