Large menu of Thai specialties at longtime area eatery, with seasonal outdoor seating & a full bar.
I had a wonderful time at this cozy Thai restaurant. The ambiance was warm and inviting, and the service was friendly and attentive. We ordered duck curry, spring rolls, and a couple of soups, and each dish was a delightful blend of flavors and textures. The duck curry was rich and spicy, while the spring rolls were crispy and packed with fresh ingredients. The soups were comforting and hearty, perfect for a cool evening. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for an authentic Thai dining experience.
We were visiting and had a hankering for some Thai food. We found this place as it was close to the hotel we were staying at.
The place itself looks basic- nothing fancy. Furniture seems a bit dated and the place looks dingy. We were seated upstairs.
Our server was a young guy who was very pleasant to deal with. He gave us a run down of their most popular dishes and made recommendations. With it being a very hot day, he was sure to get us iced water frequently.
Food was good; very flavorful. The food had all of the Thai flavors you would expect- basil, fish sauce etc. the one thing that surprised us was the use of jalapeños. It definitely was different but we enjoyed it.
Will return if we are in the area again!
Ordered the spicy coconut chicken noodle soup for $16.95 for takeout. The soup came in a 16oz container not even filled to the top. Noodle portion was small too and everything combined fit into my small bowl at home. It tasted good but was absolutely not worth the money for the portion I was given.
I came here for dinner and ordered their Pad Thai, and ensured it was vegetarian. I was initially taken back by the portion, but once I started eating, I wiped the plate. The food here seems to be quite delicious, and was relatively quiet for a Sunday night.
Definitely worth dining here.
The food is really good! Exactly what I needed. Great vibe and friendly. Loved it!
This place is awesome
Great food and great service. Prime location and wonderful vibes environment.
We got our food so quickly and had lovely service by Tania! The Chaing Mai Curry was amazing as well- will definitely be back again.

Staff, pricing and quality are unbeatable! Highly recommend!
Ordered Bua Thai for delivery to my hotel two blocks away. The food was tasty, the drunken noodles a little too oily for my liking. I ordered directly from their online delivery service on their website and the first available time was 7:30pm. Ok 30 minutes, great. No. The food took over an hour and the restaurant explained they had to cook it which I’m grateful it was cooked fresh but then adjust the timing on your website delivery. I also requested napkins and utensils since I’m in a hotel and they did not give me any. Even the receipt that was delivered with the food clearly said need utensils.
The best pad Thai in DC!

Leckeres asiatisches essen. Der Service ist sehr nett. Die Lage und das Ambiente sind auch schön.
Food was disappointing.
I placed an order here by mistake. They are over 25 miles from my house. When I called they wouldn’t offer even a partial refund.
Ordered take out - I got some rice noodles with chicken, my brother drunken noodles.
It was delicious. Just the right amount of oil and spice. And even just picking up the owner/worker was so funny and kind. Would definitely return if back in the area.
Fresh, tasty, good service, great price
We went to DC on a whim while we were driving back home from VA. Randomly chose this restaurant based on reviews and it's hands down in my top five places for Thai food.

Great food
Y’all are sleeping on Bua Thai. I just got a carry out order of drunken noodles from there and I’m obsessed. FRESH. The peppers and basil were extremely fresh, the noodles were cooked perfect, and the spice level? OW! I chose spicy and I have a high spice tolerance, but it made me sweat a little. Well done. When I walked in around 7pm on a Tuesday, there seemed to be just one customer doing carry out from there. It always seems slow and the customer service is ALWAYS extremely friendly. We gotta keep businesses like this going and take care of them! Thank goodness I live so close - I will be back, and frequently.
Although they have extensive gluten free options (almost entrees can be made gf), the server told me it might not be safe for those with celiac due to cross contamination. I really appreciated them being up front with me, although naturally I was disappointed to leave after just having drinks as the menu looked so tasty!
Start off with saying I only ordered desserts to go. Sticky rice with mango was not sweet and a really small portion. It’s my favorite dessert so I’ve had it a multiple places all over and this was the 1st time I was disappointed. My friend ate the custard and said it was not very sweet and tasted funny. I(it was a tiny little scoop).
But the place was packed so I’m thinking the food is good.

Great food prices reasonable. Great happy hour drinks
The food was so so so good! There were so many gluten free options and no confusion about it either! I would recommend this to anyone!!!
Excellent food and friendly service. I had the drunken noodles and they were great. Would recommend.
I love their pad Thai. They have good drunk and noodles. The see Ew, I think is great as well. I'll have pictures for my next time I go
This unassuming restaurant was great. Food was delicious. Brought out hot and fresh. We ordered lad na, soy beef soup, vegetable dumplings, and fried rice. All excellent; would highly recommend.
Service is very good. They were very attentive to our family especially to our mom who needs accommodations. We LOVE the noodles and tom yum soup. We'll def go back!
Food was delicious (imperial pad Thai and some pineapple rice dish), the service was lovely and welcoming, and while the inside was cool and refreshing, we sat outside and watched people go by. It was delightful.
Worst food I ever had in my life. Went there today the noodles were old and rubbery and the fish cakes were hard. I never write a review! But they should be arrested for serving food like this
Food was good. It’s not authentic Thai but more like a very yummy Americanized version of it. However, we weren’t happy with the service, there were only 4 tables when we were dining but I needed to get up to ask for everything, including to order after continuously trying to make eye contact with the staff for more than 10 minutes as they keeps walking right by us. They also put service charge in there without informing you (yes, even for two people party). I would say it’s my fault for not paying more attention but I ended up tipping the person double bc I filled in the 20% in addition to the service charge.
Sabrosa la comida , agradable lugar , lo único malo fue que el mesero nos quiso cobrar doble propina , abusando de que no hablábamos muy bien el inglés , con lo que no contó es que si se de matemáticas !
Tasty vegetarian options — the peanut curry is delicious.
Delicious and flavorful food and tasty cheap drinks. Eating on their patio was perfect on a nice day.
Plats goutu personnel agréable et pas si cher
Sadly I got rubbery, unseasoned chicken in my curry.
Accidentally ordered from the wrong Thai place but I wasn’t disappointed at all!
I tried the Thai stick which were beef skewers. They came still hot and juicy. Very well seasoned and the sauce was good.
I tried the red curry with duck. I was a little skeptical because it had pineapples in it and I don’t like to mix my sweet with my heat. It surprisingly was very comforting. The duck was sliced a little thick. Although an accident, I was pleased!
Also had the Thai iced tea. It was a little too sweet for my taste though.
They let us in 30mins before closing. Spent almost $200 but was really rushed. Asked us to leave when i’m not even half way done with my meal. Food was mediocre. Understable that they’re closing but shouldn’t accommodate us when they just gonna rush us we’re really nice. Old server was really rude. Really sarcastic. Would not go back!
Great food! Ready for pick up right away. Everyone in the family loved their dishes.
Ordered standard dishes and salads for delivery via Uber Eats. Salads were basic with big hunks of ice burg lettuce. Mains were portioned decently, but were really bland. They added jalapenos to drunken noodles? And still almost zero heat. Wouldn't recommend especially for the price.
It is shocking that a place can with such good food for such low prices. I'm from Florida and the prices are lower here in downtown d.c. than they are in Florida. On top of that you're going to get some of the best Thai food around.
Probably the worst pad woon sen I have ever had and the shrimp tasted left over. Don’t recommend
I order the fried rice w/out onions due to my allergies.., I requested absolutely no onions of any kind. After a long wait they brought me my food with chives…after getting their attention we told them it had chives and he told me that wasn’t onions.., I send it back waited another 10 min to get a new plate with uncooked rice. Btw, the first plate was overcook. We ask for the check and told them about the dish and he just looked at us. On top of that he added his gratuity for a lousy service not to forget the careless on his part for serving an item that could have send me to the hospital.
Super nice waiter and staff, food was great and they were able to take some small changes.
Got the drunken Noodles and the Duck Spring rolls. Food is always excellent.
Starters lovely, mains very sweet.
It used to be better in the past. Now cocktails and noodles went a bit down
Great restaurant, great food, great customer service
Delightful meal.
From the good bar drinks to the authentic food. Had the papaya salad and beef pad se ew. Great flavors!
Bon rapport qualité-prix, super bon et calme
Delicious
I’ve tried over 30 thai restaurants in the dmv area and this is the absolute worst. Your restaurant sucks……….I wouldn’t eat the food again if it were free.
Great kao soi! Great patio tables. I was bummed that they had no mangoes when I was there. C'mon guys! Get mangoes. You live in a huge city. This would be 5 stats but you lose a star because you couldn't serve mango and sticky rice.
Everything was delicious and the service was excellent! Pad woon sen was for favorite
Came back thrice just to get their spicy soup. Really great place!
Service was very bad
Very bad food and expensive, the sup was horrible and the other dishes also , we had a bad experience knowing a lot of thai restaurants !!!!
Great food at great price! Need to be back for happy hour.
Great food and service.
Really great food and a very relaxed atmosphere!
It's actually not very good...
One of our favorite place NJs for happy hour which we combine with dishes from the regular menu. Great food. Great value.
Best Pad Woon Sen in DC! I used to go to Bua all the time when I lived in Dupont!
Our go-to place for a casual Thai dinner. Happy hour drinks are strong. Food is great. It's our friendly, neighborhood Thai diner -- great food minus the frills.
The food was amazing. The prices are fairly high but the food was worth it I had the Gang Pad Yang and the duck was so soft the source was amazing.
My husband & I always went to Bua in the late 90’s with a group of inline skaters after skates and it was one of our favorites! We were surprised it was still open and my husband was in the neighborhood today & stopped in to surprise with takeout of my all time favorites: rare beef salad and green papaya salad!!
I asked him if he had eaten some of my salads because the small containers they came in looked half empty!!! (See picture) He had not even tasted them so apparently that’s all you get in an order. That alone wouldn’t have caused this poor review but both my husband’s pad thai and the 2 salads were so tasteless!!! The beef salad had very few and very thick & well-done poor quality, fatty beef when it’s usually thinly sliced & rare. No crushed peanuts- just a few tasteless & soggy peanut halves. The papaya salad was not much better… mo peanuts, no shrimp, NO flavor. Very very sad!! We won’t be back.
Great food. Great service. Super fast. Reasonably priced. Centrally located. Definitely will return.
On Saturday night, 10/2, we made reservations for a table for two. We were greeted immediately and taken to our seats. From there it went downhill. We sat for 15 mins without anyone acknowledging us, no waters were offered (outdoor seating), and when someone came to clean the table next to us, they skipped our table and went to another table to get them refills. It did not seem particularly busy that night having only 6 tables filled up stairs out of the 20. Do not recommend.
I ordered Pad Thai with shrimp for lunch and got soft shell crab for later. The Pad Thai wasn't bad but very very small portion for 13 bucks. The Thai tea was pretty good costly (3 bucks) for a medium sized cup. The young man that took my order didn't greet me or treat me the same as other non black customers. I'll try the vegan place next door next time.
Great place for thai food lovers. I enjoyed their duck items. Would love to try other items as well.
Great food. The waiter explained everything well.
Service and prices are excellent, particularly at happy hour. They also use no milk in the kitchen (just because Thai food generally doesn't) which is nice because my GF is allergic.
Wonderful location, good food and service
It was amazingly good. I ordered pat Thai which is their signature menu, it was so good and pretty good price. Thanks!
I got takeout from here - green curry and panang curry. The food was mediocre. Not terrible, but not great either.
Food was extremely subpar and the service was even worse. We were told to leave the restaurant exactly at 10pm despite the fact that we were still eating our food. When I asked the server for a plastic bag to carry my leftovers in, he responded "the bags are downstairs." I had to assertively ask him to go get me one. I do not go to establishments to pay for service + tip to be ushered out and told to fetch things for myself.
Really good food for a very reasonable price. If you like spicy food, ask for your dish to be extra spicy and you'll love it.
It was okay the flavor was good but the portion was just very little the price was reasonable very sweet people
Pad Thai was good, masaman excellent.
Delicious! Loved the Kao Soi. Great for pickup!
Все было вкусно! Особенно горящее мороженое
Great food at a great price.
Great service, great food
Good food and attentive wait staff. My default is Se Ew and it's was very tasty as usual.
They have delicious food here and I'm not the biggest Thai fan. I love any of the rice dishes kao pad is my favorite. I also like the seafood dumplings appetizer, can't remember the name of the top of my head. I had the coconut soup with seafood, it was ok, but he seafood was a little dry. Otherwise this place is top notch. The price is a bit hefty, but they do give good portions and their variety in chili sauce is wonderful.
The service is slow and the food is not so good.
Pretty good and tasty food w affordable prices.
Enjoyed happy hour
Food was sub-par particularly the chicken was over cooked
Not the friendliest staff but food was ok.
I had the Kee Mao, Drunken Noodles; they were pretty tasty and spicy.
Nice Thai place near DuPont circle. Starters (spring rolls and won ton) were good. For main we had fried noodles and fried rice. Both really good. Tasty, well seasoned and crunchy veggies. Dont miss the Happy hour (3 Dollar Beer, 5 Dollar Cocktails).
This restaurant is quite the disappointment. I came here because they serve Khao Soi for $9.50 during lunch time, which is much cheaper than other Thai restaurants in the area for this specific dish. It's a small restaurant with an outside patio, but the style is old as is the building.
The good: The Thai Ice Tea is good and refreshing. Servers are nice and welcoming.
The bad: The Khao Soi, which lists on their menu as a Traditional Northern Thai red curry egg noodles soup with chicken, topping with pickled cabbage, red onions, crispy noodles, and scallions, was the worst Khao Soi I've had. The egg noodle texture was the same as eating as ramen from a cup noodles, and the crispy noodles were basically fried wonton strips. There is hardly and chicken, and it is thinly sliced pieces of white meat chicken instead of chunks of dark meat chicken or a whole chicken leg.
Overall, I was highly disappointed in this restaurant, and the only highlight of the meal is the Thai Ice Tea. Perhaps their other dishes may taste better, but they should remove Khao Soi off their menu if they aren't going to serve it right.
Excellent neighborhood Thai restaurant. Pretty good variety of traditional Thai dishes, fairly quick service, and fast turnaround on takeout orders.
Reasonable price, great menu
Prices are cheap. Like we paid around $10 a plate. Place was clean. Staff was really kind and friendly. Food tasted okay.
Great chicken and fried rice. Many other good dishes as well.
I love BUA, I’ve been coming here for years !
Great food, prices and comfortable service.
I often order Penang curry vegetarian and one or two of the tasty starters ! Cosy spot!
Highly recommend all food options
On the pricy side with the portion you are getting. Food generally is decent, nothing too outstanding tho. There's only street parking.
Great food and service, I've been here numerous times, by myself and with friends. Two of my favorites are the Coco Bouillabaisse soup, seafood soup in a mild spicy coconut broth and the Gang Ped Yang, red curry boneless roasted duck with pineapple, tomato and basil leaves. Always consistently great food, I've never had a bad food experience here.
Always delicious!
Good basic Thai food. Unpretentious and friendly stafff.
For 20 plus years my family and I have enjoyed Bua from appetizers to their tasty berry mojito and still Bua surprises us 😋
