The spice scale here is legit! Like when they say that a 5 is "Thai hot" they ain't kiddin!
Overall pretty good. It's definitely got the vibe of a good hole-in-the-wall Thai restaurant. I thought the See Ew was pretty good. I'd definitely go back and try some more stuff out.
I give it a 4 because when I stopped in they seemed to be out of some pretty basic stuff, like basil and bean sprouts. Worth another shout though.
If you want to hang out in locally owned small business. Be patient, and friendly and they’ll treat you amazingly. They caught me dying on level 3 spice and brought me out a Thai tea to help with spice. I’ve tried the PHO BO, Yellow curry, coconut shrimp and crispy chicken. Everything so far was amazing.
Great job Chang Thai team! 🔥🔥🔥🤘
Shrimp pad Thai was outstanding. Love heat but since this was my first visit I didn’t go for the highest heat but went with 4 out of 5. Perfect. Started with the fresh rolls and and a Thai iced coffee. Our table also had the pineapple fried rice which was fabulous. This is a must try Durango restaurant.
I came in here before and there was some crazy dude that owned it. It was fantastic food, but I never came black because of the unhinged owner. It now has new owners and they are absolutely the most pleasant people, and it is soooooo good. The seafood Pad Thai was absolutely to die for. Really recommend this place.
We had a great experience at Chang Thai. Reservation is needed even though we were able to get in as the host let us in due to seat availability. The food was amazing. We had green curry, yellow curry, basil fried rice and Thai fried rice. Amongst all green curry was our favorite. Definitely going back there whenever we are in Durango.
We ate here and it was really really delicious food! Unfortunately there is a really strong odor of sewage, or something rotten, I don’t know what it was but it would be nice to get that taken care of. I would definitely do takeout from there, the food was seriously so yummy but the stinky smell in the restaurant was pretty bad.

Order-to-go was not ready for at least 45 mins after stated pick up time was given.
The tastes of the pho and pad Thai are so good. It reminds me the food in Asian. Btw the staffs are so sweet and nice, they even keep checking on us if the spiciness is ok.
One of my favorite Thai eating experiences. Food was absolutely amazing. Service was amazing and the staff was very friendly.
If you want the fresh smell of raw sewage and tiny portions for a $20 dollar average this is the spot
2 Stars for a semi-decent flavor

Soups are okay. Not worth the price given they are a little bland

Restaurant smells of raw sewage, could not believe people were sitting down to eat in the space.
Pho was not good at all
My husband and I love trying new places and this one was delicious! The food was fresh and exceeded our expectations!

Quick service, with tasty affordable meals.
We came from Texas, it's the best Thai restaurant I've ever tried, excellent food, I'll be back when I visit Durango again.
The experience is wonderful!!! I really recommend this place 👍🙌💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
The food was excellent, the service, I really recommend it 100%
The food was absolutely amazing!! I got the spicy Thai noodle soup, my family got the princess cashew plate, Kao pao plate and we also got the gyoza. Every single bite was delicious!! Definitely would recommend! Just a heads up spicy is definitely spicy but really good!
Little Thai spot in Durango. Food really authentic if you around this is the place that must to stop.
good
We went here twice in the last month. The food is great, the best we’ve had in the four corners in recent years. Service is 1 star because of the Disney land prices. We were charged $18 something for take-out curry when there is a different price listed online. Most expensive too. Also payed more dining in by two dollars on another item than what was listed on the menu. And they put an 18% gratuity when we ordered just four dishes. Price gouging is out of control in Durango.
THE BEST FRIED RICE PORTION EVER 🔥🔥🔥
Tasty and friendly staff
Best Thai food in Durango. Especially love the Avocado Green Curry. Hubby loves the Thai Beef salad although he wishes it was a tad bigger. Prices are very reasonable.
Disappointed with how our dishes tasted compared to times we have ordered from Chang Thai in the past. Ordered Pad Thai and fresh spring rolls.
Wonderful Thai food. Great service. Thank you.
Had a great time eating food here!!! If your are a spicy food addict like me try Thai hot🔥, if your use to spicy food like me it was a sweet spicy. Love their rolls and peanut dip sauce ❤️. The drunken noodles were bigger than advertised as well as most of the food here. They also had a vast variety of drink available my favorite was their ice coffee. This is a Thai restaurant for those who don’t know already. The wait time for our food was like non-existent we place our orders and it came out it a blink of an eye. (For the restaurant) Thank you for being a great host on our vacation and checking to make sure we were okay. 10/10 would recommend!!!❤️❤️🎉
Ordered the vegan pad Thai and honestly it’s the worst I’ve ever had. I hate writing negative reviews for local business but this was disappointing. It Had literally two pieces of tofu, and this did not taste at all like pad Thai. I asked for medium spicy and it was not spicy at all. Sauce tasted like ketchup. For the prices they charge, it was sad to get the dish I got. Hope you can improve your recipe
A wonderful place with delicious food! The new owners are amazing and the service is great. I used to avoid this place due to the previous owner, but the new owners are very friendly and make the best thai food around!
Relatively good service, our order was originally placed to ARRIVE at 5:45 but we received an email a few minutes before letting us know that it would arrive at 6:15. The egg rolls were very good, the boba tea was very weird clumped together and a gooey mess. the chicken pad Thai didn’t have nearly as much flavor due to being so dry i couldn’t get the noodles apart from eachother. We were also informed that if you tip online that the tip doesn’t make it back to the delivery person which is pretty messed up.
In one trip this place went from a must stop to an avoid at all costs. Food and service have both gone down hill. Pick something else, you’ll be happier.
literally the best thai place that i have ever been too, i don’t live in durango but i would drive hours for this place no question. amazing staff , super friendly , amazing atmosphere
Caution on the Heat Factor, but it was DELICIOUS!
Good service. Food was good, but had almost no spice when I picked the spicy option. Vegan portion was small compared to the other plates for the same price.
Great place! Calming music and delicious food in a charming room with generous portions and caring service staff.
Ordered Yum Thai Beef, Thai Fried Rice, Panang Curry and Chicken Wings. Overall the food was delicious however the portion size for the Yum Thai Beef and Chicken Wings were far too small for the price.
Needs more stars to describe how amazing this restaurant is.
Portion size is ok, but not a lot of flavor. Ordered the pad Thai and crab rangoon and neither had much flavor. The crab rangoon was under cooked and the pad Thai had only a few pieces of vegetables. Overall, pretty disappointing, especially for the price.
Good food every time.
Lots of flavor and spice.
New owners, great authentic Thai food.
Very good food and drinks. Servers were very kind.
Lovely local Thai place! Kind staff. Fast service. Small unassuming restaurant. Delicious food! The Pad Suki and Massaman Curry (we got both with tofu) were delicious. We got them mild but still had a little kick—delicious.
The original, previous owners had an ordering / reservation system in place that did not take the user experience into account - I.e., it sucked.
New ownership has everything dialed. Food and service is superb. Our benchmark were all of the great Asian restaurants that we had when we lived in Seattle.
Decor and atmosphere is typical of most Thai restaurants. The food however just rocks.
This place Is fire
Insane pad Tai. Great for takeout or dine in. I live near by and will be coming here often.
So yummy! We got delivery, and everything arrived perfectly. The portion sizes are huge with lots of meat and vegetables, and the sauce was the perfect amount and full of flavor.
Don’t even come close to what it was a few short months ago. Way overpriced, awfully poor quality, loaded with msg to mask the lack of flavor from obviously old ingredients. The first two visits there under original ownership, had a chef that was old school and turned out dishes that were fresh, and appealing. He’s gone, and new people have fallen way below minimum standards. A complete waste of money.
Everything I could ask for from a local Thai spot. Tom Kha hot pot, Panang Curry, and Pad Thai were great. Owner hooked it up with some boba Thai Teas on the house. Definitely going back!
Delicious food and great service :)
Friendly staff, was seated right away, and the food was tasty! Ordered the spring rolls & gyoza as an appetizer, and chicken panang curry & shrimp pad Thai as an entree. It was amazing. Will be returning to try the other items!
Amazing food! Service was quick and people were very kind and helpful. Definitely eat here!!
I have ordered the Drunken noodles and the Panang Curry both to go. I have eaten at all the other Thai options in Durango and Chang Thai's druken noodles are the best in town for sure. The Panang Curry was a very large portion of curry with large chunks of chicken carrots and peppers. I actually ran out of rice before I ran out of curry which is a nice cause it's usually the other way around. Both meals were good proportions (maybe a little less then the other places in town but still plenty for a meal).
Spice 1-5 scale and I got a 3 which had some spice but was a very pleasant warmth. If you like spicy I would go for a 4-5.
The folks who work there are very friendly and the food was ready very fast. Under the new ownership I think we got ourselves another great spot here in Durango. I'm planning to go back and dine in with my wife soon which is exciting because the other Thai places in town don't have a dine in option. When I picked up my to go order the tables were very clean and had a nice aesthetic flower table piece, I'd assume it's a solid choice for a more affordable date night.
Friendly and polite staff. Delicious food with reasonable prices. I got the drunken noodle and pad Thai, which were both excellent. I also appreciate that when I asked for mild spice they actually did just that; I love hot food but due to medical issues it really hurts me now. It's really nice to be able to enjoy Thai food without the pain; not every place will do this. I will definitely be back to try other dishes here.
Seems to have gone way down hill since new ownership. Why pineapple in curry? Portions are much smaller. Will not return.
We unfortunately had a very poor customer service experience. And compared to other thai places in the area, the prices are high and the food is just mediocre. We'll go elsewhere next time.
Me and my family wanted to eat Thai food. And this place was ok. But to be honest, the service, some people, especially the boys, seemed unwilling to serve and even me and my family walked out."""There are no words of thanks." "I feel""""very disappointed"""Thank you.
Very good authentic Thai!
Love this place. I've had the massaman and pumpkin curry and both were amazing. My wife loves the yellow curry. I have a hard time not just going back every weekend for more because it's so good. Very lucky to have a great Thai place in town
Lovely little place. It’s not about the decor, although I was mesmerized by the large screen TV playing scenes from Thailand. We were greeted and well attended to by several. I had the Thai Spice soup that was so good! Definitely going back! ☺️
Bussin
Friendly staff quick efficient service comfortable atmosphere
Food was outstanding. Service could have been a little better, but it wasn’t horrible. Atmosphere was great, nice lunchtime music.
Excellent food! Amazing staff. Cute little place. Always crazy busy (for good reason), so order before you get super hungry. But, know, that the wait is worth it!!!
My food is always amazing I love the orange chicken here!
New owners, same awesome food paired with awesome service.
Absolutely incredible. Beef pad see ew was phenomenal. Some of the best I've had in years. Wife raved about how great the pho bo was as well. Gyoza was great as well. Service was quick, great, and the host was funny.
I wish I wasn't just visiting so I could come back next week!
Updated review: There was a change in owner in 4Q2023. Be careful on GF now and ask detailed questions on meal prep.
Exceptional Thai flavors!! Gluten free options are wonderful and much appreciated!! We truly hope that you stay open here in Durango. Your business would be sorely missed.
Good helping of food and you can get it as spicy as you desire. Food is prepared fresh and quickly. I've had the pad see ew and the Thai basil fried rice. Both were delicious.
Amazing food! Wonderful sevice and good authentic thai food!!!:)
The food is very good, the staff is very friendly. Skip downtown and come here.
Had an over charge which was resolved.
Beyond that, this place serves what is likely the best food in Durango. I like that the dude is confrontational. Makes the food even more special.
Pho
Full disclosure, we chose Chang Thai as it was one of the only restaurants open in Durango on Thanksgiving day: we had just landed in Durango and were looking for a meal. It did not disappoint.
The service was top notch and the food was even better. This may be the best Thai food that I have had. We will definitely be back.
Very friendly. Tasty food. Price is good. I tried the same dish two times in a row and I was pleasantly surprised both times. I would recommend this restaurant in Durango for Thai food. I appreciate that they had clearly labeled vegan / many plant based options. Decor inside leaves something to be desired but food is good and that’s what matters most for a restaurant
They should get 7 stars!!! So much better with the new ownership. We got pad thai, Singapore noodles, spring rolls and thai tea. All was fantastic and served beautifully. Cant wait to go back
This place is amazing. Best Thai food in the 4 Corners, by far! Make sure to try it out
Pad Thai was good...but not great.
Excellent food. Friendly and fast service. Glad your here! We will be back alot. Thank you!
Pad Thai was great
We have been loyal customers of Chang Thai at all their locations in Durango over the past several years. Their food was always amazing! We ordered on Friday to discover new owners had taken over and this is not the same Chang Thai anymore. We ordered online earlier in the day and our food was 45 min late. It was also not the same food- the flavors/dishes were completely different...we are very disappointed.
We just tried Chang Thai under the new owners. I was disappointed. I did not get my food at the time I ordered, in fact it was about an hour late and we did not get everything we ordered and it wasn't as good as in the past. The restaurant was busy, which is good to see. I understand under new ownership there are bugs to work out. I hope to try again when they figure a few things out.
Great Thai restaurant with actual Thai cooks.
If you haven't had the red curry from here then you have never experienced what it is like to eat a meal crafted from the gods. Truly a religions experience! Seriously, put your phone down, get in your car, and go order the red curry immediately.
We had Chang Thai cater my 80th Birthday. The food was amazing!!! and plenty of it!
We've given Chang Thai several chances and had bad experiences each time. We were done giving patronage to Chang Thai and didn't plan to post a bad review, until we read the owners replies to the other bad reviews. This guy is a jerk and will be out of business eventually.
-The food is not great. Pad Thai is pale, with warmed veggies and we even received uncooked\raw tofu, not much flavor.
-Service sucks. The order system is idiotic for all the reasons others have stated.
-They ask for tip when you purchase food online via the reservation system. Counter service doesn't warrant a tip, this isn't even counter service, we're pre-ordering food.
-I showed up one minute before my food was scheduled to be ready and ended up waiting for 30min (the point of the reservation system is...?), they didn't even start my food, was this because I opted out of the pre-tip? No one else was waiting for their food like I was, hmm... Guilt tipping for non-tippable items is pretty shameful. We'll generally tip before we receive service and food because we don't want hair or boogers in our food. That's blackmail, not cool.
-Someone walked in to get their food and asked for an extra dipping sauce, the staff said no prob, but it was an extra $0.75. He was pissed and commented on how he just tipped 25% on an $80 dollar order! He left the food and walked out. The staff all trash talked him when he left, it was clear as day to me sitting, waiting for my food to be cooked. He came back a few minutes later, to their surprise, with a $20 bill to pay for the dipping sauce. I'm sure he won't be back either.
This place isn't worth it and would have already failed if it existed in another market with competition. It exists because there are so few other options.
Update: To whoever the waitress was who got fired I am SO sorry. I cannot believe the owner somehow detectived his way into thinking you left this message. To the owner, you were terribly mislead my friend. It is utterly disrespectful to leave a public message airing out someone else's personal issues. Your outbursts in these reviews just project your insecurities. If you truly believed all the great things you say about your restaurant, then you wouldn't feel the need to defend yourself all the time. You blatantly disregard genuinely helpful reviews coming from good hearted people to defend yourself and your restaurant. Why can't you take good advice? You aren't perfect, no one is, do you not feel the need to be better? There is absolutely no need to respond to trolls, but most of the reviews you have blown up on are actually good advice. Take care my friend
P.s give that waitress 10k 🕺👍
I would like to start by saying the food is absolutely amazing and well made. There's clearly thought put behind the dishes. There is also a very clear lack of care for employees. The owner of this restaurant seems to not care for his employees whatsoever. I assume because the owners do not plan on continuing the business much longer, but that is not a valid excuse whatsoever to treat your employees terribly. If thats truly the reason, then discontinue the restaurant. The owner is very obviously unhappy in the business, so take the time to step your way out, rather then continue to waste many peoples time with your gross attitude. The woman you hired as a server was probably the greatest decision made in a while, without her not very many people would even give your good food a chance. Good people are just as important as good food. Your negativity towards employees will only discourage them. Besides the food, the server is the only reason many people come back. If you truly like working in this business, then treat your employees and customers with a little more care. Judging by your replies to reviews, you care more about defending your character then listening to criticism from genuinely caring people. You should not reply, let alone give any thought towards the people who are leaving negative reviews for no reason. That would give you more time to actaully give some thought on the real criticisms. I have never been in the restaurant business, so I'm not going to act like I know anything about it. Its not that easy just to discontinue the restaurant. Just think about what you would rather be putting your time into, what is more worth it to you. Putting your employees down, the people who make you money, isn't a great way to spend your time.
An amazing little "hole in the wall" restaurant.
Definitely fresh ingredients with just the right amount of spices 😁 😁 and easy to access with a phone call and reserved seating.
I highly recommend it, and honestly will try again when I'm back in town.
Keep up the good work, to the great cooks behind the delicious food.
Great appetizers and delicious entrees! We had the eggrolls, potstickers and Massaman Curry! Very authentic!
We are an elderly couple, saw this restaurant on Maps. We were ignored when we walked in. After standing at door for 20 minutes, asked the waitress if we could sit at a vacant table.
She asked if we had a reservation??? We did not have a reservation. We were ignored and finally walked out of the restaurant and will not return. What a waste of our time.
When I moved out of Denver, the one thing I missed most was good ethnic food, specifically Thai food. This place fills that void and more. The owners are incredible. The food is amazing. Definitely give it a try.
Really amazing food!!
I am a Thai food snob and this is one of the best places I have eaten outside of Thailand. Definitely the best spot in Durango. The food was all cooked perfectly, seasoned and sauced to perfection, and their spice scale wasn’t a joke just as it should be. The slow service should be the last thing you care about with food this good.
Food was sensational! Service was a bit slow but it was clear they were slammed with online orders.
Have the Mango Sticky Rice! It's rare that food, however good, invokes such a sense of pleasure. This dessert is stunningly yummy IMO. Indeed, everything I've eaten from Chang Thai has been fresh and delicious.
Amazing food!
Love this restaurant, such great food and great service, servers and cooks are so friendly and welcoming!
Curry is absolutely delicious. The wait for pick up is reliably three times as long as they say. So don’t ever be in a hurry to eat.
Inside is always smoky from the kitchen so I don’t recommend eating in.
Good vegan options
If you really wanted your wife’s small business to succeed you wouldn’t go on psychotic rants and ban people from your restaurant for leaving bad reviews. You think people would learn to keep their politics to themselves….remember Top That Frozen Yogurt? Swapping out this place in our weekly routine for Thai Kitchen or Sizzling Siam. Food is great, but not giving my hard earned $ to a business who not only doesn’t respect their staff but their PAYING CUSTOMERS. Show your wife some respect and save your novels for your therapist.
This Place is awesome
Great Thai!
My friend and I ordered food online for takeout here about 8 weeks ago now for a climbing group of 5. Vegan “egg rolls” were good. Food not really memorable enough to review at the time but maybe enough to hit up if we come back.
What warrants review is the owner’s husband, Christopher Fucci. He is ruining this business. He is the primary cause of take-out and dine-in complaints alike. His wife, Sasiporn “Ja-Ae” Fucci (she spells it Foochi) cooks and is the legal owner of the business. It is truly so sad to see a “man” his age conduct himself in such a manner.
I have screenshots of him stalking me on LinkedIn and other socials after leaving a previous review. I was advised to delete my initial review when he was stalking me.
I was also advised to establish a pattern of time-stamped screenshots, of his social accounts stalking my profiles. Which he did so directly after I (a young woman) posted google reviews to *his wife’s* business page.
I’m posting to keep this relevant for anyone who visits Durango. This man is a few beers short of a six pack and the worst Durango’s local community can offer. Thai food with no drama/abuse is available at Thai Kitchen!
really good, among the best Asian food in Durango for sure
Worth the wait! Very tasty food
WOW! this Thai cuisine is so authentic! Spice is perfect even for a 3, the naan is so fresh. The curry is excellent! All the flavors are so delicious. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Love the atmosphere as well! Great place! Stop by, your in for a treat!
Too many rules about pre order but they are generally short of staff.
Best Thai food in Durango! I like to order the masaman curry. I also like that you can order online for a set pick up time.
Really enjoyed the Thai food here. Tasty and flavorful. Love that they have several clearly marked vegan options. Ordered a few curries (green and yellow curries) with tofu, a pad Thai, several apps including the egg rolls and the fried tofus. The food was all very good. Spicy and flavorful.
While we enjoyed the food, the dine in experience wasn’t great, next time would order for take out. Ordered ahead for dine in at 7:15pm reservation time. Arrived a few minutes prior to the reservation time. The place was packed and no table was available. Went for a little walk, came back and there was still no table available despite the reservation time. There was only one waitress working the entire floor. She was very kind but overwhelmed by the number of people she was servicing. We didn’t get seated until 8pm. Once seated we ordered drinks (4 boba teas) but they never ended up coming out. We received our preordered food at around 8:15pm. We didn’t mind as we were with friends and using the time to catch up, but had we known there would be such a long wait to be seated we would definitely have just ordered takeout.
Still, would recommend as the food was great, the fact that there were so many people reflects that this restaurant is quite popular. They could use a bigger space and another waiter working the floor during peak hours.
Was “permanently banned” after the owner had me mistaken for someone else. The server doing his (the owners) dirty work for him, kept calling me by a name that wasn’t my name. They made a huge scene in a restaurant full of people, causing them way more embarrassment than me. If I wasn’t mistakenly banned already, I wouldnt be going back anyway.
Response to owner: yet another unhinged response from this owner. He calls me a liar, but I guarantee if he were to look at the possible camera footage during this “RHC? incident” you will indeed see a 6’5” 200# male on the screen. Not the “34 year old little girl” you speak of. Ask the server who she talked to if you don’t believe me. I simply said I was picking up an order for her, not that I was Raya. Your minions responded so aggressively and quickly that I never had an opportunity to discuss anything further before being asked to leave. I asked to speak with you for clarification, but was told you were unavailable. Makes sense after hearing that you are rarely in the building. A real keyboard warrior who fails to reveal himself in the real world.
I’m not sure why you seem to have such an unhealthy obsession with this RHC person. I imagine the DSM4 would classify a lot of these actions as narcissistic, and obsessive compulsive. But like I said, thats not my issue, it’s yours. Now that her name is out there, so is mine. And so is yours Christopher Fucci. How unfortunate you would do this to a business someone (your wife presumably) worked hard to build. A travesty in fact.
If you love having diarrhea this is the place for you
Yum yum! :)
terrible owner frfr
got HORRIBLE food poisoning from here. UNCLEAN establishment!
Food so bad it makes me want to decapitate myself
Had one of the worst food experiences of my life here. I am a huge conservative so i thought i would love this place. But it was trash! horrible food and service!
Got food poisoning I'm pretty sure from here.
Owner threatens to decapitate his patrons. He’s s bad look for our awesome community.
The chef/owner is so nice. It's cool to just watch her work. She's a true master of her craft. Pick anything, you'll love it.
Still unclear how their dine-in sitting works, since for takeout you also reserve a time. Would probably go more if the website were a little more clear.
Super shameful behavior by this male owner. Here is 1 Star to add to the chorus of people stating how disrespectful this man is.
I have been a long time fan of the food here. A few months ago, I was picking up an order and noticed there was a right wing COVID denying book on display on the bar. I wrote a review asking why they would display this book? It is disrespectful to our community who endured the shutdown and those who DIED during this pandemic. I deleted the review an hour later cause I try not to be too negative online.
This evening we ordered some food and received a message that the order was ready. My partner ran in to grab the order and was told by the greeter that the order was canceled. He asked why we received the text saying it was ready if there was no food? The waitress then said the male owner canceled the order because of a bad review and that he intentionally sent the misleading text. She said we were "banned". Seemingly, the man didn't have the balls to state it to my partner directly.
This guy needs to practice some self reflection. Reading over other reviews, clearly the dude's a bully. Bad Service.
How unfortunate that this person is a part of our community. My family and friends will no longer frequent this establishment.
Note: Do not reply to this message. It will be bloviating and dramatically unhinged.
Great food, but be sure to order ahead of arrival...we did not and waited about 45 minutes to be served...worth the wait, but if I had been in a hurry it would not have worked. Excellent food...3 is 🔥
One of the best restaurants in Durango, staff is nice, the food is always amazing, and very clean dining room.
Best Thai in Durango
Best Thai in town! 🥰
This Thai holds its own weight against any I’ve had in a big city. I always beat myself up for not ordering from here more often!
Highly recommend! Great vegan options, really fast service, excellent food. Take out was a breeze.
Excellent!
Great food and service!
This isn't just the best Thai food in durango- it's the best restaurant in town!
We always order take out and the packaging is impeccable. I think you can tell a lot about a restaurant by how much care they put into making sure your meal is carefully wrapped up for home enjoyment.
The pumpkin curry is phenomenal!!
Very fresh. Spring rolls are amazing
During the final days of my life before the Angel of Death swiftly takes me from this Earth, I will beg them to grant me one revisit to Chang Thai before I depart. To all the pizza and wings, burgers and fries Yelpers out there: close your eyes. Cover your ears. These words were not meant to befall them.
To re-experience the carnage that is the Pad Thai would be something dubiously legal.
To pay homage to this altar of sautéed
satisfaction would be not a sacrilege, but a sacrament unlike any we will likely experience again on this planet. This will be our last supper.
The steaming egg rolls will be broken, and the deep, rich thai tea will flow into our goblets, to be toasted to the health we are undoubtedly about to sabotage. You will deny your coronary constitution three times before the morning comes, with either crab rangoon, drunken noodles or fried chicken pot stickers. You, Chicken Samosa, will be my demise. Do quickly what you must! And leave me to enjoy what little time remains, before the coma I prepare to experience commences. Take comfort to know that although we may check out soon, it will be in a blissful stupor.
And to think: all that for 46 pieces of silver? What a steal.
The first thing you notice when you are lucky enough to walk into Chang Thai is the sense of beauty and serenity. The walls are a beautiful color, the tables are spaced out so that everyone has a bit of privacy, a small oasis. The kitchen area, which you can see from the dining room, is even calm, with delicious smells to tempt the hungry diner. Our lunch yesterday, on a snowy, cold day, was superb. Spring rolls wrapped around impossibly tiny julienned vegetables and rice noodles were so delicious dipped in peanut sauce or a sweet dipping sauce that I had to force myself to stop at eating just four. Pad Thai came next with crushed peanuts and even lots of mung bean sprouts, which are hard to find in Durango (Albertson's carries them most days). Then...a new dish created by chef JaAe: beef ribs cooked in a slow cooker with a honey sauce so good you wished you had a piece of bread to soak up all that goodness. A pyramid of rice on the plate was just beautiful. The star of the meal, however, was the thoughtful kindness of the super busy chef JaAe and Chris who took the time to remember it was my birthday and bring out a cupcake heaped with a mountain of chocolate icing and a flaming birthday candle. We will never forget their kindness or the incredible meal we had.
Delicious appetizers and meal! Highly recommend! Will definitely be back when I'm in Durango.
I am surprised by the food from this place. It was Christmas day and most places were closed but this place was open. So my friends and my family went there and we did not care what they served and we just wanted food. But the quality of their Thai food is great, even their Thai tea.
I thank the owner for serving us on Christmas day with excellent Thai food.
great food and service!! best tea ever. we will definitely be back and we highly recommend!
Food was mediocre. Third best Chinese restaurant in town.
This is the BEST Thai food I have ever had! The owner is super friendly. I could eat here every night.
Well here goes. The first time we went there we were unaware of their policy on dining in and showed up hoping to dine there. After seeing the messaging at the door regarding dining in we were somewhat shocked by the tone of the message, and were therefore afraid to even ask about dining there, but gave it a shot. There was only one table with customers dining. I assume we were talking to the owner, explained we weren't aware of the policy and asked if it would be possible to dine in. He went and counted up his orders and said it would be about an hour, so we said that wouldn't be a problem, we'd go have a drink somewhere nearby and be back in an hour. We returned in an hour and got a take out bag with our dinner, so we didn't even bother with asking if we could eat it there as he seemed very stressed and I actually commented to him that everyone there seemed way too stressed out. The food was indeed very good. The second time we decided to just order out and called 15 minutes after they opened. The website used for ordering said the first available pickup time would be 8:15, THREE HOURS LATER! Naturally we did not order. We then perused the online comments and responses from the owner. What a jerk!!! (That's putting it lightly)
So Mr. owner, you should not be in business. Your rants to people trying to eat at your establishment are immature, unprofessional, and downright offensive. Your business model is clearly not working and you blame your customers for your failure to adjust to the demand for your product. First rule of business, the customer is always right! You asked for suggestions: 1. Quit taking orders from the day before if you can't keep up. 2. Don't offer dine in if you're going to insult everyone that tries to eat there because you again can't handle the demand. 3. Examine your processes to speed up the time needed to fill an order. Eight orders an hour is clearly not enough for a take out restaurant. 4. Go to some kind of management training, you're clearly not managing yourself, and therefore probably not the staff either. 5. Spend more time trying to solve your inability to keep up with demand instead of writing lengthy, insulting responses to customers that comment on your obvious business problems. For would be customers: Thai Kitchen takes your order by phone or online and normally has it ready in 15-20 minutes, the food is just as good, they value their customers and you don't have to feel intimidated by their policies and owner. It's a shame because I really wish they would succeed because the food is really good, but I fear the worst for this business due to the owner.
I have read your response. Thank you for validating my comments.
All I can say is, HELL YEAH! I used to be a die-hard Thai Kitchen fan back in the day but ever since you guys opened up at 11th Street I started to convert. Like many other folks in town I was bummed when that whole deal didn't work out but knew deep down you would be back because the food was too damn good. Sure enough you persisted and now have a real location and the food is better than ever. The food is consistently amazing and in my opinion probably the best in town. To those out there that say it's expensive or inconvenient, you can go pound sand.
This is the best food in Durango.
Wow. Epic food. This place has secured its spot as best Thai food in town.
Also has good vegan options 🌱🌱
Waste of time
The best Thai in Durango..if not all of Colorado!
I walked in to Chang Thai hoping to be able to place an order to take out. Chris was busy but took the time to talk to me and was very forthcoming that a take out order could take an hour or more. I asked him if it was definitely doable and he said absolutely. I sat at the counter and wrote down my order and Chris came over, took my order and my phone number and called me like 30 minutes later and told me it would be ready in 15. The order was flawless, the food was delicious and we were thrilled! Perfection and I wish you guys all the best! Prices were reasonable and food was exceptional! Can I get a standing?
Outstanding meal, outstanding service and outstanding location! I ordered the special - avocado curry and it came out with a presentation like I have never seen! The sliced avocado was in the shape of a heart with the meat and veggies inside! I have never been served a meal that looked this amazing in my life. The green curry was delicious and the veggies were perfectly prepared, fresh, not frozen and still a tad crisp - amazing! The little restaurant has lovely ambiance, bright and cheerful, and the service was very friendly. I can't wait to come back.
Excellent food and fast service. Although the resturant was very busy, Chris, the owner took time to introduce himself and talk to everyone. It felt like a very warm and friendly neighborhood resturant. If you’re planning on dining in be sure to make reservations! And try the cheese Rangoon. The absolute best I’ve ever had.
I have never written a review for any establishment. This is a first time for me.
I had to write this review because I feel so strongly about this place being the best Thai food I’ve had. I’ve even been to Thailand. I’m educated.
First off, the owner is great (despite what is implied in other reviews). He was managing a lot at once while serving our large party of 5 and was very patient with our large, complex order and provided great service.
We had multiple changes of heart while ordering and he was very kind about it. I had to change my order down in spice level because I smashed my face mountain biking. He offered a home remedy to help with my soon to be scar from the stitches.
They ran out of Thai tea and he kindly split the remainder of what they had between my friend and I at no cost! The boba had the best consistency and taste.
My friends had both the egg-rolls and spring rolls as appetizers. Both were 5 star dishes.
Now onto the main dishes…
We had a variety of food that came out pretty damn fast. The glorious aromas were pouring out of the kitchen.
I personally ordered the pumpkin curry (yes, I am super basic and like fall themed dishes but I think I still get after it as you can tell from the scars on my face).
My friends ordered Tom yum, drunken noodles, and two pad Thais.
Each individual dish was uniquely delectable and full of flavor but my order was the best. This pumpkin curry should be the talk of the town. The shrimp were huge!
The ambiance is also something to note. From the dramatic dark blue walls to the natural vibes of the grass walls, we felt at home.
Right as we thought we couldn’t fit any additional food in our belly’s, the owner came out with chocolate milkshakes!!!! Big win. As if I hadn’t already been convinced…
Durango food in general is overpriced and overrated for tourists. This place is the real deal at a very affordable price.
I cannot wait to see what the new back patio holds!
My husband and I add Chang Thai to our weekly meal planning without fail every single week — it’s our favorite!! The owner now greets my husband by name each week and is so kind to him. Our biggest obstacle is choosing what to order each week because everything is so dang good. We’re so excited to bring our friends when they visit and we’ll be customers as long as Chang Thai is around.
Favorite Thai food of my entire family! We are thrilled this location is open now!!!!
I really want to critique this from a culinary and service aspect. Everyone here was very nice but I personally had a very bad experience. I will admit I had a horrible day before hand, possibly contributing to my frustration, but I digress. 1. Potstickers were over cooked 2. I'm sorry but the ragoons were disgusting 3. The ordering process is a nightmare especially for less tech savvy people. On an upside The spring rolls were absolutely amazing. I truly hope you can improve your place since I can tell you truly care about the restaurant. Thank you.
Reply to your reply: I truly love how you barely respond to criticism but write a whole essay on the ones who critique you.
1. According to my family the entrees were great. Im not saying satan himself prepared all the food. It was just my food that seemed to have mistakes. And thats perfectly fine, mistakes happen and it seems in your situation you couldn't have prevented it. But what you could have prevented was purposefully sending out a meal you knew was incorrect and expect the patron to bring it up.
2. I will talk half responsibility for the lack of communication. As told before I had a very bad day and was frustrated, so when my family asked if I wanted to say something, I just expressed my need to try and go home as soon as possible and they accepted that. But we also could barely say anything since no one did ask how the food was. The server gave us our food. and never came back to the table except once when we asked for water and tea. Then we didn't see him again.
3. Im not saying your website is the most complicated thing in the world. It is just over complicated. Graphic design is not your passion. I actually am quite good at web design. So if I am not exiled from this restaurant after this review I would like to help you improve the website, so it won't cause my elderly grandmother to rip her hair out trying to schedule and figure everything out.
Tastes great.
Welcome to Chang Thai, singlehandedly trying to recreate dining out in the most inconvenient way possible!
Seriously though, what is this?
We just enjoyed an excellent lunch, and dining experience. We had two curries and tried the samosas out of curiosity. The portions were generous and flavorful. We went for a late lunch, but the dining area was still full and take-out orders were flowing. The owner was friendly and told us in advance it was an unusually busy time. It was worth the short wait. We are looking forward to trying other dishes.
