Hearty portions of classic Thai dishes served amid vibrantly painted walls & white linens.
Great food and value for money! We ordered a pad Thai and a pad sew, good portion and really tasty. The noodles were perfectly cooked and the sauce flavourful.
Both dishes were at only $12 for a significant portion.
Service was quick and nice.
Would definitely go back for a quick and tasty lunch.
Love this place!! We used to come here often years ago. I was in the neighborhood so went there for lunch today and the food was amazing, affordable (a great deal for lunch special) and they even remodeled, so pretty!! Also great service. I’m lactose intolerant so they changed my Thai iced tea to coconut milk for free, no fuss! I am going to make it a point to come back here more often.
Everything I tried was delicious! Staff were really nice and service was great. Nice vibe / atmosphere.
I tried:
• Chicken Satay - comes with a yummy satay sauce and side cucumber salad.
• Seafood Pad See Ew - delish! Came with a generous amount of seafood (shrimp, scallops, mussels, squid, and imitation crab)
• Lychee Ice Tea - delicious and refreshing. But I love lychees, so I could be biased :P
I asked for some cut chillies and was brought an awesome little server with various chillies.
Would definitely visit again and try some other dishes.
We dinned in and we loved it! They have set up the cutest table on the sidewalk, it was quiet and we enjoyed the music from the bar next door!! The food was epic, perfectly made and looked amazing! The service was so fast even though they had many deliveries to prepare. The staff is so friendly and attentive and off course wearing masks all the time. Much recommended!!
I was greatly impressed by this quaint Thai restaurant. I had the duck curry with lychee. The curry was full of flavor and the duck was cooked perfectly, the lychee sweetness was the perfect balance to the spicy curry. I also hand the fried pumpkin appetizer, was very much like sweet potato fries. The flavor was great, however there was too much breading and it distracted from the pumpkin flavor. The location was within walking distance of many popular hotels. I recommend the restaurant for authentic Thai food. It definitely reminded me of my years living in Asia.
Really nice Thai restaurant! They had a few fusions dishes and I decided to try the Udon Pad Thai, as I'm a fan of both Udon and Pad Thai. The Udon noodles were cooked well - I would say a little more tender than firm, but it complemented the flavors of the Pad Thai well. If you like spice, you'll have to ask for their spice rack or order the dishes with a mild, medium, or high spice as it's not a given. I had a few cocktails and definitely recommend the Pink Tokyo - very light and refreshing for a late lunch! Had the Thai Tea to go and it was so tasty - definitely one of the best I've had so far in the city.
Delicious, order to go and super happy with our order thank you!
Amazing food. We had the lunch special. The Tom Kha soup is amazing, as is the crispy basil chicken with fat soft noodles made in chinatown. It does not disappoint. We were there between

Would definitely go back for a quick and tasty lunch.
Pad Thai was lacking - overcooked, not enough sauce, and very little tofu. It tasted like it was something from a can.
This place is fantastic! Great flavors, incredible value and excellent service. Highly recommend for anyone who wants authentic Thai and a good price in a cute spot.
Appetizers were great.
Amazing place. Great food and nice staff. Would eat here every week since it was close to my job. Recommended
Das Essen hat ganz gut geschmeckt. Personal war nett und Bedingung war schnell
Ordered through GrubHub based on good reviews. Ordered arrived incorrectly. My GH receipt had 4 items. Their receipt had 3 but 2 orders of Thai Beef Salad. I also ordered curry, but apparently, they don't include rice. Or mention they don't include it. It wasn't offered as an add-on to my curry. They offered MY wings, which were ok at best. Sauce was good, but the chicken was overcooked. I called the restaurant and told them I was missing the item and was disappointed my curry didn't have rice or option for it and was offered an "sorry man."" How about maybe offering to bring me the correct order or offering some rice. I'm not in the restaurant, so I can't just ask my server to grab some. Instead, I'm left with reliving it on Google to warn others. It would have been easy to make my day, but instead, I get to drink my curry and not get any noodles. I was hoping the beef salad would save things but again. Just ok. No char on the meat. Barely spicy. I asked for 8 of 10. It's maybe a 4. I wish I had more pleasant things to say, but today they didn't earn it.
Do better
Tom
This place used to be Michelin rated 15 or 20yrs ago, but unfortunately it went downhill. It's OK, certainly not bad, but not great anymore. Slightly small portions these days.
I think this place has fantastic pad see ew and excellent coconut shrimps. I like the decor and private feeling.
Had a really great dinner and time at this restaurant. The food was so good, we came back twice in two days. Absolutely delicious, both the food and the drinks. I especially loved the Lemonade Thai Iced Tea and the Crispy Fried chicken. Plus our waiter was incredibly nice. We are not from the area but I hope we will be back one day!
Food was good.
Delicious food in a warm welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommend!!!

Good service and welcoming atmosphere. The food was very tasty, but quite small portions on the curries for the price.
the best pad kee mao in town. owners are very nice!
The Egg fried rice is amazing here. I'll definitely be back whenever I'm in the city for work.
Really great food and service! Easy to walk here from many neighborhoods as well.
I love coming here for lunch. Parents of one of my students are the owners. The food is always good to great. They are really nice people.
Very good food
Good service good food
Food is not flavorful. We requested extra peanut sauce but that never came with our spring rolls and they charged us extra for that.
Food is costly for what you get. Both quantity and quality is not good. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone.

Quick, simple, always fresh and amazing taste.
This spot was great!! All the food was delicious! The duck noodle soup was amazing!! Service was perfect and the atmosphere was ambient!! All in all, I highly recommend this spot!!
I eat here all the time. Great vegan options and very fair prices. They are also very quick even at lunch time.
Good Food and service is great. Everything on the menu is great.
My favorite goto spot for quality & affordable thai food for the last 6 years!
Amazing food. We came in late on a sunday with a very large party and they had us seated and eating food within 30 minutes. The food was amazing! We all ordered something different and everyone loved their food.
What a great place! We went there for dinner - great food, such an authentic and cute athmosphere, nice waiters, good money for food ratio!
We have been there before and we'll be back again. Food is very good with interesting choices and service is very friendly.
Très bon restaurant. Ambiance chaleureuse et reposante
Great place, friendly and polite staff. Yakisoba here is a must try.

Have had good fried chicken rice during COVID, hence the 3rd star. Today not so much. Burnt coconut shrimp (5 total couldn't eat these 2) to the point of ugh. Tom Yum soup reminded me of dishwater with nasty veggies like broccoli and couldn't taste the lemongrass or any heat, I didn't pay extra for the meat and I'm glad I didn't waste my money.
Me and my girlfriend came in today and got the yakisoba and crispy/ roast pork with rice. It was hella FOOKING good. 10/10 recommend.
My favorite neighborhood spot. I love sitting on the patio, the entire menu is awesome.
Une super adresse pour manger au calme. Plats epicés juste ce qu il faut et travaillés.
The owner/people there are incredibly nice! The vibes are awesome and seems like a small homey place. Definitely recommend!
Sehr sauberes, schönes sicher neues Restaurant. Mit unserem Essen war alles in Ordnung
awesome food, cooked to your choice, lovely people wonderful service......
Highly recommended, especially for lunch - the lunch specials are great value for money. There is ample seating, with both indoor and al-fresco seating, with a high ceiling so you never feel cramped. Décor is on theme and service is good, as is of course the food. Really appreciate that the lunch specials let you choose your protein.
I love this place. The pad Thai is fire and I mean fire. Make sure u say medium if u want to be able to eat it
Everything was as expected.
Good food.

Great service the workers would always pay attention to customers and ask anyone if they need anything. Would always refill cups of water when she saw it low. Food was great and quick would come again. :D
Stopped here for lunch while I was in SF getting my passport renewed. Tasty food , friendly staff , and good heaters for safe comfortable outdoor dining.
Great local Thai restaurant with amazing decor. The owner (?) was super friendly and fast service! Great spot when you're craving delicious Thai food and their Thai coffee, especially with tapioca pearls, was very refreshing. I'll be coming back here when in in town!
Great place and great service, for my first time the waiter was so helpful with great food selection.
My favorite Thai place in the world. Its been a while since I've been but I can't wait to go back. Loved the massaman curry.
The Lunch specials are awesome! Cute table set up on sidewalk... Big portions.... app, soup, main dish and drink for $16!! Food is presented so nice too...delicious !
Omg mango curry is out of this world!
When I was visiting SF, I swear at I here about every other day. Of course, I tried a lot of other places but always ended coming back here. The taste and the service (and prices) can’t be beat.
The lychee curry with duck was sweet with big knobs of tender fruit, extra-spicy on request, and rich with duck fat. The duck itself was well-cooked: the yummy skin just chewy, the meat pliant. As a pumpkin curry devotee, lychees here were a revelation. Unique, yet balancing.
The stick black rice with mango would have worked better with a ripe Manila mango but am not gonna availability against 'em.
EXCELLENT FOOD AND SERVICE! Ihad a really good experience at this place!! They were closing as I arrived and they knew that I needed to feed my son and his friend after a 15 hour road trip plagued with problems. The staff graciously sat us down and proceeded to impress us with the best meal I have enjoyed in a very long time! Despite the fact that they were closed when we arrived, we never felt rushed or as an inconvenience! I highly recommend visiting Modern Thai if you are ever in San Francisco!
The food, service and ambiance...all excellent at a great price.
Really good food and good service
Delicious food + great service!

Ordered kao soi and was very dissatisfied, soup portion was so little, would not try again.
Poor quality food I ordered beef basil and they sent ground beef with onions pretty much which tasted pretty mediocre.
And it’s expensive for that quality and portion.
Two hours and counting, still waiting for my delivery. (Ordered on a Tuesday night). On top of that they made changes to my order without asking. Save yourself the hassle and go somewhere else.
The people who work here are just the sweetest. And the decora is amazing as well
Arrived in the city mid afternoon and needed a late lunch. Glad I found Modern Thai!! Good menu selection along with wonderful food and service. This restaurant offers a small bakery in the front with an amazing selection of cookies and other treats!! Will definitely return when in town again!
Best Thai food I've ever eaten
The staff was very efficient and attentive. The food was delicious.
don’t order modern Thai if you have a nut allergy. I ordered the Panang curry and it had peanuts in the sauce and THEY DIDNT WRITE IT ON THE MENU OR IN THE INGREDIENTS. I called them and they weren’t even sorry or phased by how scary that can be for someone who is deathly allergic
They have fallen down. Beware. Stay away.
Rally good food and cute inside
Fantastic food and a great layout. The service was wonderful also. Had Pad Thai with pork. Lunch prices were at a great point.
Delicious food, good portions, very friendly and timely service
We ordered fried rice, pad thai and chicken sate through door dash. The fried rice and pad thai were terrible. We ordered around 11AM. Im pretty sure they gave us leftovers from a previous day.
Very decent and at a good price.
Wonderful food and a great experience here. I was only in the city for a short time but if I ever return I would love to eat here again. The staff was fantastic, made every effort to get my order exactly right. They were sweet and helpful, and invited me to bring my husband next time. The funky exterior of the building belies a beautiful, well kept, and clean interior, decorated with greenery and wine bottles.... reminded me a bit more of an Italian restaurant than a Thai restaurant. Huge windows and the high ceiling make it lovely and bright inside. I had the pad thai and the yellow curry with chicken. Everything was delicious! Parking is easy at the Polk & Bush garage across the street. Thank you Modern Thai for a lovely end to my SF visit. Hope to come back soon and bring my sweetie!
Great food and the place is beautiful !
The food was delicious. The service was great and this place is super cute. Definitely going back again!
Fantastic cuisine and a peaceful environment. I enjoyed the whole experience
Crispy chicken w egg fried rice was no lie. Crispy af. Dipping sauce? Yum.
Great food, if you like spicy thai infusion. Excellent atmosphere. Courteous service. Highly recommended.
Great Thai food! Authentic flavors and wide variety of menu options. Plenty of excellent vegetarian choices. Staff are very friendly and warm! This restaurant has been around for many years and is much better than all the Thai restaurants in the Polk Gultch area.
This place is great. Friendly service and delicious food. Prices are very good as well! Stop by if you are in the neighborhood...
Prompt no-nonsense service, yummy dishes, there was hardly anyone there, but we went the Friday after Thanksgiving
The food is fine. Expect loads of sugar in your food as per most American Thai restaurants. This review is reluctantly posted, as I've been a long term customer of this restaurant for nearly 8 years, frequenting their brick and mortar location and doing pick up. DO NOT ORDER DELIVERY (ie Eat24/GrubHub/Uber Ears). The team at Modern Thai is not operationally sound -- they messed up my order not once, not twice, but three times, resulting in a 3 hour delay in me receiving the correct order. Manager and staff don't know how to make longtime customers feel acknowledged either. Fine to eat there in person but I repeat, DON'T ORDER DELIVERY FROM HERE.
Had pad Thai noodle which should be safe but noodles seemed tough, maybe undercooked. Room a bit too bright.
Great service and delicious food
I love the Singapore noodles. Menu has increased and it's still a great value.
Good food, fast service, great price
Amazing, cheap, quick and clean. Good service and cheap beer!
Ordered the Penang Chicken.
Not only it was tasteless and small, it arrived without rice.
- Apparently, Unlike any Thai or Chinese restaurant in the entire US, this is something you need to order separately from Mosern THAI when ordering a $14 entree.
This is the second chance I gave this place, it was the last.
Delicious food, very reasonable prices, attentive staff, and tucked away from the main drag enough to keep things quiet and relaxing.
Crab rice is the best !
Good place for lunch meetings, place not too crowded between 12-1pm. Food was pretty decent and easy on the pocket.
Polk Gluch neighborhood Thai restaurant (4.5 stars) with couple "Zagat rated reviews" on the wall from previous years. There is an outside enclosed dining area along the sidewalk. The much larger inside dining room of tables & chairs. They have various lunch special from 10 to 4. Not much atmosphere for romantic dinner but thai taste, portion size and price make up for this! Can order take out & closes at 10:00 sharp! (I was there at 10:05☹️)
Great staff but good ohhhh
Where the hell is the food I ordered thru grub hub??? It was supposed to be here 40 minutes ago.
Cold empty feeling to the place with reasonable prices and good food.
Fantastic food! Great service. Lovely watching the world going by while eating the delicious food and contemplating life.
Delicious Thai in a homey setting.
Its a hit or miss sometimes. I've come here to get food to go and my last meal I just had, something tasted really awful with the pad see ew broccoli. Tasted like some kind of washing agent....but other times were alright.
Kind servers, delicious food, great space!
This spot has quality food but it is a little overpriced. They're pretty quick. They have indoor seating as well as a nice outdoor patio space. Try the chicken skewers (satay) on the appetizer menu. It comes with awesome peanut sauce. I like the pad thai, and curry dishes too. Seafood is a bonus! Get shrimp. The food is fresh.
The food was good but the included gratuity was a shock for a table of two
Very solid portions and good prices...and actually yummy thai food
good food but it seems the portions have gotten smaller. Nice environment with porch area for nice weather, nice wait staff, good location. Food is consistently good but shrinking portions.
Have visited here twice in 4 months. The first time I had a salmon curry that was okay. Never saw curry just drizzled over Salmon on a PLATE before. It was overpriced especially since I paid extra for rice. This time the prices were better and so were the dish options. The Pad See Ew w/ shrimp and Thai Ice Tea, $15.
PS. I've never seen it busy or full there. Not even when walking by. I think they messed up in the beginning being overpriced. I'd recommend trying now, though I wouldn't have before.
This is an okay Thai place. The food isn't anything to write home about, and I definitely found a hair in it once, but it's on the cheaper side and the service is very friendly.
nice
I like it.
I eat here occasionally for lunch. They are never busy at that time and the food is decent. None of San Francisco Thai is as good as Berkeley Thai unfortunately
Awesome pad kee mao
Good was good and so was the service.
Terrible, don't bother with this place, the customer service is offensively bad. Not only did my deliver lack an item that I ordered and paid for but then everything they did send me was so hot it was inedible even though I ordered it as mild with a note stating "please make as least spicy as possible". When I called to try to address this the lady that answered the phone berated me, said "what do you think that I can do for you?" and then hung up on me. When I tried to call back to at least get a refund she turned off her cell phone. What restaurant has their main number be their personal cell phone? Ridiculous. Consider yourselves warned, just don't do it.
My new favorite place in the area!
Appetizers and desserts are solid. The meet dishes I have ordered from here have been rather disappointing the beef rather hard to chew and full of gristle. The vegetarian dishes are always fairly adequate. So, go veggie here if one visits Modern Thai.
I like the spacing and the quiet interior and decoration in this restaurant. However, the servers always seat me too too close to other patrons when the restaurant is always nearly empty. They always direct me to seat closer to the other guests.....which is fine, however, acoustically, does not make an easy place to have dinner conversations in quiet voices. (I indicated that I would have preferred to seat further away from the other crowded tables.)
Spicy foods tend to be rather mild and not too spicy. I had to add liberally from the spice rack. Also, my tummy was a wee bit upset after I ate here. I have only eaten here twice. The service was slow and rarely did the staff come by to check on refilling the water.
I probably will venture further down Polk for my Thai food fix if I ever am wandering down Polk again and away from the Mission.
