Mr.East Kitchen is a fast-casual eatery serving a simplified Vietnamese menu with a modern twist. Boba tea, pho, banh mis, and more are served all right here in San Francisco's SOMA.
We recently ordered from Mr. East Kitchen and was thoroughly impressed with the whole experience. The food was ready for pickup in no time. As for the food - we got shaking beef, Tom Yum Noodle Soup (one with chicken, one with shrimp) and pumpkin curry. Portions were good and everything was perfectly seasoned, and the freshness of the ingredients really shone through. The pumpkin curry especially was our favorite - great flavor with a perfect kick of spice. We’ll definitely be ordering from here again — quick, flavorful, and satisfying! Highly recommend!
Just had breakfast here and it was delicious. I had the panda waffles and made it a combo with 2 eggs and Sriracha bacon. House coffee has refills. My dining partner had the omelet with shrimp and kale, salad (fruit is an option), and black tea. Friendly service. Highly recommend!
Been coming here for a year now, since they opened. Fenomenal job, a small crew keep that in mind, a good place. They have a very friendly staff with good portion meals when dinning in or out and responsible prices. Today I hot the soup it’s delicious! I got the Tom Yum shrimp soup, and garlic fries. I especially like how they leave the delivery box open so the fires don’t get soggy, super thoughtful of them. Some restaurants don’t do this and it shows how well thought out they want to present their food. Very good! 5⭐️
The Asian fusion food we had at Mr. East Kitchen was excellent. Atmosphere was really nice and the waiters were very polite.
However, we did have a minor issue with the service. 2/3 of the meals we ordered came promptly, but we had to wait an additional 10 min after that for the last dish to arrive.
Our first time here and me and my friends all loved our meals! We ordered the garlic noodle bowl with honey pork, drunken noodles with tofu, and the vegetarian steak. As most spots in SF, seating is limited but not terrible. I still recommend a reservation just in case. Service was great and I would come back!
THE BEST French toast we’ve ever had 🍞🍓✨
@mreastkitchen is a hidden gem serving Vietnamese-Thai fusion dishes and they are definitely a must try. Service was so nice and it’s the cutest spot for brunch, but they’re also open for dinner! They’re trying to pick back up again after the pandemic so please check them out, you won’t regret it! 😊 They have such a variety and everything looked and sounded so good we had a hard time choosing our dishes. Was very happy with what we ordered and everything was delicious! Can’t wait to come back and try the other items we were eyeing 👀

Strong recommend!
YES & I can't wait to go back 👍🏿‼️

Great place with great food. Super friendly and fun place to brunch. Definitely will revisit
Really nice place for brunch! Their garlic noodles are to die for! (Make sure you add bbq pork because you will not regret it!) Everything on the menu is great! Went for their holiday special drinks and I wasn't a big fan of the combination of matcha and strawberry but their matcha and strawberry holiday special drink changed my mind! Also the staff is super kind and attentive! Really recommend this place if you want to hang out with friends or bring your family!

Ordered shrimp Tom Yum noodle soup. good portion and fresh veggies.
Staff is very kind and the food was great!
Fantastic food and friendly staff :)
The Sriracha bacon is one of my favorites and then I also love the Sriracha bacon egg Benedict. The chicken and waffles are bomb too and the morning crispy chicken salad. I ordered all of these dishes this morning to treat myself. I really love to order from this place, it's like a comfort food for me now! One of my favorite places for brunch!!

It’s not the best french toast, but it’s yummy ~ and it’s hard not to love the vibe here. Great people, great quality breakfast, with lots of unique options.
Really good food. Been here several times and tried several of the menu items and they were all very good. Cheap by SF standards as well.
Best Waffle I ever ate! Would definitely recommend!
Great downtown spot for some excellent shrimp Pad Thai! Very friendly staff. I would recommend it.
The restaurant is small, clean and modern. The service was good. I ordered the banh mi pork sandwich. The bread wasn't the crunchy French bread that I'm accustomed to. It was a softer roll which was a really nice combination. There was a choice of sides included. That was a plus! I'd order that again and it was $13. Very reasonable these days especially because it came with a side.
Cutest, little aesthetic cafe, with modern and fun Asian fusion food. The food was so incredibly delicious, affordable, and had so many options. The only part I didn't like, was that I couldn't order everything! The interior was so cute, and the staff was so fast and so lovely to talk to. I highly recommend it!!
Hands down best and most affordable place to eat in this area. Perfect place for UOP students to grab a bite.
One of my absolute favorite brunch spots. Their Saigon Steak is juicy and super flavorful! Their chicken banh mi is very good as well with its strong flavor and soft bread. And of course I can't forget my favorite drink, the lychee mimosa! Can't recommend this place enough!
Chilli Garlic noodles is yum and very delicious. Specially the garlic in it is so crunchy and flavorful.
Strawberry Jasmine boba is tasty.
I arrived for lunch, dining-in as a solo diner. They feel very understaffed. It's just a huge crowd of Doordashers (all clad in motorcycle helmets, swarming by the order counter) and people doing takeout. I was the only dine-in. There's plenty of tables and interior seating, but most of the tables weren't cleared out at all while I was there, and table service was non-existent. They did eventually start clearing out the tables, but close to the end of when I had finished eating (1pm).
With the complete lack of service, I made a mistake dining in. It's probably why everyone does takeout.
The atmosphere isn't great. Dirty dishes everywhere and it's a lot of yelling to the delivery drivers on which orders are ready.
The food has good portion sizes. I got the shaking beef and it was good. The beef was tender and flavorful. I would order from here again, but next time via delivery instead of dining in.
All the food was delicious. The food we didn't order all looked delicious. And the service was excellent!
I think this is like the best owned family restaurant I have ever went to in San Francisco. The food was awesome and so great
Useless
Fantastic, flavorful Asian food, with a good variety and a focus on chicken, though there are great beef dishes too. Delivered to our office smoothly.
The food here is delicious! And you get a pretty big portion size much, so I think it’s a great deal for the price.
I come here regularly and the food is always great / the owner is super friendly :)
A friend had recommended I come here for brunch. The wait to get seated wasn’t too bad - a few minutes at the most.
I was pleasantly surprised that the menu was Thai fusion and was torn between a handful of dishes. We ended up ordering: Vietnamese Dalgona coffee, Tom Yum Omelette, and Vegetarian Steak.
The Tom Yum omelette had all the delicious notes a tom yum soup would have, including the spice. This does have a kick but accentuates the dish rather than being painfully spicy.
The candied spicy bacon that topped the omelette was sweet and spicy, definitely a delicious treat.
The Vegetarian Steak had umami taste and well balanced, especially with the sunny side egg.
Both dishes had baguette slices topped with minced garlic and cheese shavings, diced potatoes, and a little salad.
The Vietnamese coffee wasn’t too sweet, and there are non-dairy options available as well.
Overall, would come back again.
Tom yum noodle with shrimp and garlic noodle are good. And not expensive.
Waiting long for order delivery
Owners, managers, and waiters are so cool and nice! Great service, solid food, for amazing portions and reasonable pricing.
The food is so creative with great taste! The menu almost includes all types of foods from south east Asia and mix with western style. The Vietnamese-Thai-meld chicken on fried rice dish was comparable to any high cuisine restaurant. It came with bok choi and broccoli steamed to perfection, still crisp, not soggy, what you would expect from an experienced chef. An omelette dish had the same quality. The lychee mimosa (topped with a beautiful fresh lychee) was an excellent accompaniment.
Dinner on 6/1/24 was at Mr East Kitchen. I was excited for this restaurant because when this establishment was new I had an awesome dish to steak over rice with a fried egg, it no longer there but it has fat service
Very nice brunch stop, with good food/drink options and reasonable prices. Their
Mia is amazing she is so kind and always remembers my order. Happy to come back here after some time. It's much more organized and the food is great as always.
I really love this place! I love to order their crispy chicken fried rice whenever I'm back home in SF and it has been consistently good. I sometimes order the lava beef too and it is also really good as well. Everyone working there has always been so nice and the vibe inside the place is really relaxing. It is a small place, but it is nicelt decorated. I love catching up with friends here that I haven't seen or talked to in a long time and it is near Yerba Buena or Downtown SF so it is easy to hang out there after or take transportation.
Literally my favorite place in the city- I have yet to be disappointed by any dish after trying like half the menu. The best part is that instead of braving the brunch crowds on the weekends you can get the brunch dishes any time! Super nice staff and always such an amazing spot
Staff was friendly enough, but the food very disappointing and overpriced. I had the veggie pho, and it was pretty tasteless. Expected more based on the reviews/rating.
It's one of the best Pad Thai I have tasted.
We were looking for food near our hotel, and the reviews are good. So we tried, and we weren't disappointed. The staff and the owner are friendly and accommodating.
Although we only we ate what we selected and they are very good. The place is not big. To my estimates, it sits less than 50 people. Plan ahead if you decide to eat in this place.
A nice Thai food spot that opens early in the morning. I had the Hainan chicken rice which is not actually Thai food, but it's good. The ingredients are not very similar to those I had in Asia countries but the rice and chicken were delicious. The food service was very quick but servers were not around that much. The staff was friendly.
Bref. Vous l'aurez compris... Je suis tellement fan de cet endroit.
Pretty good Thai-American brunch spot. I visited it on a Sunday noon and it was busy but still had high stools available. The menu is large so it’s easy to find what to eat either you are in mood for sweet or savory food. I really loved their rich Tom Yum soup with crispy chicken and my husband found Pad Thai Shrimp delicious. The service was friendly and fast, and people kept coming till the end of their brunch hours so I can assume that this place is pretty popular among those who know about it. Glad that we discovered this Thai spot in our neighborhood.
Very delicious food
Salmon curry is one of the best!!
My favourite crispy chicken fried rice in this city!
The food was absolutely delicious!! From the bread to the French toast like everything tasted wonderful! And the service was magnificent ☺️
Delicious food so we can back both days of our trip! We live in Chicago but don't have something like this that we have found which is saying something!
Food was awesome and server Noel was so friendly and helpful(^_^)
Thank you so much!
Vietnamese boba coffee drink was really good and I love being able to get pandan waffles or pho^_^
I stumbled upon Mr. East kitchen, and I was very surprised. I actually found a place where everything on the menu looked delicious and was affordable, which is a rare find San Francisco. We got the crispy chicken fried rice, which was bomb. We also got the garlic noodles which were really good and a chicken bun which just needed a little more chicken. Great customer service. Coming back to try the soups.
Food was spot on for flavor with the dishes we had. Veggie pho, veggie fresh rolls and the pad see ew. Great Smoky flavor in the pad see ew!! Service was quick and our waiter was very friendly with a good se sense of humor. He made sure we were happy without being overbearing. The place was packed from the time we arrived until the time we left. Definitely a popular place to eat, and I can see why!
Came here at 10am Sunday and had brunch here with friends. No line and plenty of empty tables. We ordered Hainan Chicken and Garlic Noodles with Chicken. For both dishes, the chicken was dry. For the Hainan chicken, the sauce was too thick. The garlic noodles was okay. Quantity was good but taste is below average. Our friends ordered Thai Tea Pancake and they seem to have enjoyed it. Maybe the typical brunch offerings are better?
The food was fresh with unique combinations. Thai French toast breakfast with honey glazed bacon eggs and fruit. Perfect. If you like coffee the Vietnamese iced coffee was great
My sister and I came here on New Year’s Day to have brunch after dancing the night away. The mimosas were so good as well as the food. The tum yum omelette is a must.
This restaurant is so so, I don’t understand why they got high scores.
Overall great experience. The spicy sole fish was especially delicious; the flavors were exceptional and the eggplant perfectly cooked. Atmosphere was very clean and welcoming. Service was great. Prices also seemed very reasonable given the quality. The latte was also outstanding!
This is one of my favorite spots in all of SF. Parking is tough, but the food makes it worth it. Tom Yum omelette and the bahn mi are two of my favorites, but everything I’ve eaten there is excellent and the presentation is outstanding.
This is the last review you need to read. GO. Just get there. The sooner the better. You will not be disappointed. Do you like Thai food? Do you like Vietnamese food? Are you interested in seeing those flavors used in new and exciting ways? GO. Go and treat your tastebuds to a party in your mouth!
Mr East Kitchen is a little and a surprisingly amazing place. I had a great time here and the food is so delicious. I loved the veggie pho and the garlic noodle bowl. The patatas bravas (potato fries) were to die for, the taste of the fries is still lingering in my mouth. One thing I did not like was that it was too crowded and they did not have enough room to keep the dishes on the table.
The waiters were really funny and sweet.
Highly recommend the Saigon steak and Thai tea toast plate. The rest of the food menu is ok.
The Saigon steak plate is well balanced with a mix of fries, salad, bread, and protein. The steak is extremely tender and flavorful. The fries are perfectly crisp and the salad is fresh and perfectly seasoned.
The Thai tea toast was pretty good too but the Thai tea flavor wasn’t that strong. The fruits were very fresh.
In terms of drinks, I recommend the Saigon coffee drink.
I love Mr. East! I used to live around the corner and I picked up garlic noodles once a week. The tofu is crispy on the outside but moist and flavorful on the inside, and it's one of the only places that includes an actual adult size portion of veggies.
I've honestly never ordered anything else because I love this dish so much. I bet everything they have is fantastic. I still stop by whenever I'm in the neighborhood! It was so sad to see businesses closing in this area -- support Mr. East!
A rather busy restaurant for its location. The food was very good. We ordered the garlic fries and chicken pho. The garlic fries were great. The pho was fine, but not the best I’ve ever had. I was jealous of some other people’s food that came out. I’d like to come again to try other food.
Came in here to kill some time but ended up killing my hunger. Foos was absolutely delicious and flavorful. Cant wait to go back and try other dishes.
Vegan options for brunch? In San Francisco? Heck yes. I got the bahn mi, and the server brought extra sauce so that the bread wouldn't be dry (the mayonnaise it usually comes with isn't vegan.) The food came quickly, and the staff really seemed like they were having a good time. So glad we tried this place.
Very large portions, reasonable prices for SF, good flavour
We ordered a latte, Tom yum omelette and salmon Benedict.
The Tom yum omelette isn’t as sour as Tom yum soup usually is, so I loved it! I think food took a while to come, so if you get a drink and have some company, it’s really nice :)
Something interesting they have is sriracha bacon! It has more of the sweetness than the spice, but I liked it. It’s thick cut and cooked softer (not crunchy) which is my preference, so I love it .)
Good portion sizes for the price with lots of vegan options. The tofu was a little rubbery.
So damn delicious with great service is more than 5 stars for me!
This place is incredible. The fusion of flavors is off-the charts. The chicken sandwich with garlic fries was so good I had to ask to thank the chef for making my night. My wife’s noodles were equally good. Desert was also perfect. Unironically, this might be the best food I’ve had in SF.
I rarely give reviews this favorable. I dined in with 7 others and everything ordered was done with high technical proficiency. There are 3 styles of Benedict, all of them awesome and tastefully plated pretty dishes. Noodle dishes are spot on. I recommend trying the fun drinks especially the mimosas.
Fried sole fish was really tasty! Papaya salad wasn't that spicy, but still tasty. Maybe that's for the best. Pad See Ew was classic.
We usually never go back to the same restaurant, this one really made a huge difference to our pallet. We even got our family to join us the next day for the meal and experience!
The service was brilliant and the food mind-blowing!
❤️❤️❤️ A must visit for an excellent food eating experience in san francisco!
We dined for brunch hour and were not disappointed! I ordered the banana french toast with the egg/bacon combo. It was all very good but the Sriracha bacon was TO. DIE. FOR. The Americano coffee drink was nice and strong, just to my liking! Very friendly staff with quick service!
Try the Vietnamese tea
Them drunken noodles A+! The Thai tea pancakes are also super unique and to die for!!!
Hell yea
Relaxed vibe. Good garlic noodle bowl. Large portion.
I have been three separate times this year and everything on the menu has been fantastic! Great spot for fusion style breakfasts.
Tom Yam is really good
Tasty and beautiful food
Ordered from Mr East Kitchen through forkable - the curry bowl was delicious, but what really made my day was they they had read my request for no rice and extra greens and made it work - there was even a polite note that they were out of bok Choi so I got broccoli. Small thing, but made my day; thank you!!
They don’t miss !!
My wife and I got the Saigon steak and Thai Tea French toast, and some mimosas everything was perfect, one of the best breakfasts we ever had. After the first bite, we couldn’t believe this place wasn’t packed.
For context I can’t remember a time I left a review on anything other than friends and family businesses, but I felt obligated to leave a review here, and I don’t know these people.
I always love coming here! It's such a cute aesthetic place and has good coffee shop vibes even though it's more of a food place.
Good:
- The food here is so beautiful and portion sizes are great - I loved the Tom Yum Noodle Soup dish - the soup base was great but also the noodles were so tasty and the right texture.
- I have gotten French toast here too and loved it.
Bad:
- Takes a long time to get food when it's super busy here - not their fault but I was waiting for over 45 minutes one time to get food on a Thursday at lunch.
Overall this place is great - prices are reasonable and it's a super great Asian food place.
I had a great dining experience here! The food was fresh, delicious, and well-priced; I especially enjoyed the Thai tea french toast. Additionally, the staff were friendly and very attentive. They also let us split the bill, which is convenient for groups. I highly recommend this place!
Mr East Kitchen is amazing. First time. I got the Saigon Steak for brunch. It was so good. Lychee fizz also 👍. Definitely will be back.
Good food, good portions, good price. One of my go to spots for brunch in SF
Go to place for Asian comfort food.
Best dalgona coffee around
Pretty solid spot for a quick lunch bite in the area
Had a great brunch here. Food was unique and tasty. Service was excellent
Incredible food! I’ve been here too many times to count, and it always delivers
Great food and service, it gets a bit loud when it's busy. Fruit tea is delicious and refreshing.
DELICIOUS food, reasonable prices, and awesome service!
Jan 2023 update: Came here for lunch. Food was good (Garlic noodles with five spiced chicken, Pad see ewe with chicken, and Chicken satay) as was the service. However, I'm giving it two stars only because there were hella flies (little ones) and gnats in our area. Landed on and near our food, etc. I won't get into further detail, but it made the meal unappetizing. There is a distant possibility that we come back, because this may have been a one-off (I'd like to give them another chance), but yikes.
Original review: Ordered an Earl grey milk tea and garlic noodles with chicken. The drink was good, would order again.
My kids didn't care for the noodles for some reason, but I liked them.
For the budget minded who wants quality meals. If your hotel ever charges your Continental breakfast for $50 or more, might as well skip that and walk a few blocks (15min or less) and have an enjoyable meal that is easy on the budget and feel like you’re dining in a quality restaurant. Came here on New Year’s day when most restaurants are closed and we were not disappointed. Came back the next day but unfortunately they are closed on Mondays. Everything looks good and taste good but I think I need more meat on my chicken katsu.
This place was so good! Environment and aesthetic, The food is so delicious nad the service was really nice!
We have come here a few times now and the food and service is amazing. Highly recommend.
The food was amazing. Even if I was full, I still wanted to eat more. The lattes and coffee were/was very fancy and had latte art included. Would recommend and go back again.
Had the chicken sandwich before and loved it, was looking forward to it today for dinner and guess what? They decided to cheap out on their ingredients for one of the most popular dishes! Look at this chicken, thinner than a pickle. Great way to start driving a restaurant out of business.
We eat here all the time. Big portions for a good price. Lunch/dinner is on the spicier side (jalapeños) but breakfast isn’t. Their mimosa are great too
