Walked a few blocks down to get some good thai food and it did not disappoint! Got the yellow and green curry and both very similar but had some differences. I love the taste so much and would put it at the top for one of the best places ive been for curry! If you are looking for reliable, fast, and all around good, this is your place!
I will start by saying that Thai is definitely not my first choice when going out. Walking into Thotsaken it was homey yet fancy with immediate service. I started with the summer rolls which were absolutely worth the order. Ordered the chicken drunken noodles for entree and they were amazing. The food was hot fresh and warmed up my heart couldn’t have asked for a better meal.
I seeked out Thotsakan as they were highly rated on Google reviews for Thai restaurants in SD. I ordered the Thai Basil as I do throughout the US.
The service was quick and my dish was served even quicker. Vegetables were very fresh and crisp and the flavor was fantastic. Aside from there being very little parking options in downtown SD...I only wish there was a little more Chicken/protein on my dish. It was not a deal breaker as once I finished the dish...I was comfortably full. Great job Thotsakan...and if you're in the downtown area of SD and are craving Thai...please visit Thotsakan.
The food here is fantastic. We had the Pad Thai, Tom Kha soup, and pumpkin red curry, and each dish was absolutely delicious. I've had a lot of Thai food in my life, and this was among the best, if not the very best. They offer amazing vegetarian options also and are very accommodating for those who prefer dishes without fish sauce. This is a super great restaurant and I highly recommend it.
If you’re doing your research for a good Thai place in the area - then you found it.
We always struggle to find Thai that is as good as back home and this is the place that’s giving home a run for its money. We started with the Summer Rolls and those were the best I’ve had. I love the tofu in it - so different. Then our entree came and this is the most delicious Pad Thai. I ordered mine with duck because the charge for duck was very inexpensive. I loved the duck in it as there were bits of skin as well. We didn’t know they had cocktails until we asked to see if there was a menu. I got the Appletini and loved it. Lastly, we got the mango sticky rice and the mango wasn’t the most ripe however it was still incredible.
Wow, this is the best Thai food I've ever had! The creativity at this place is crazy. As a vegetarian, having mock chicken and vegan Thai food is rare. This place doesn't skip on flavor and the service is fast! Thotsakan definitely deserves the highest ratings.
A small place, but the food and service was great

Good flavors. Great service. The Drunken Noodles did not have a lot of pork and the meat was almost cold. The Ka Pow was very good, vegetables were fresh and chicken cooked perfectly.

Great food. Amazing and friendly service. The restaurant is clean and well maintained. Many choices and everything tasted phenomenal.
Beware! They will automatically add the tip after they take your card! My bill was $100, (0nly 4 people) and when they ran my card the bill came $120 and line for a tip. When I asked they played dumb and would not correct the charge. They said it was the tip but I had not been notified of that.

Ok, but not fantastic.
Got my soup and then 2 minutes later my pumpkin curry, so the latter already a bit cold when i started on that. Pumpkin tasted like it was already quite old and dryed out.
Good vegetarian Thai food
Nice calm place for a late lunch special (ends at 3)
I went there with my friends for lunch on Saturday. There was 5 of us and one of my friends asked about the lunch specials with the younger lady at the host stand confirming they had lunch specials. I love getting Thai for their lunch specials and their menu even has a page that says DAILY lunch specials. When the server comes out (maybe the owner?) to take our order she said there are no lunch specials on the weekend and I even pointed out to where it says DAILY lunch specials and she said it hasn't been updated. The menus looked new and they even had it advertised outside as well with the same daily lunch special menu. What was even worst is I saw other people ordering lunch specials. She straight up lied to us. If I was by myself I would have left that place instantly but I was with a group. I tried to be positive and ordered my favorite dish, cashew chicken. It was the worst cashew chicken I've ever had and it was pricey for $18. It had no flavor at all and the chicken tasted off and was rubbery. I only had a little of it but I felt sick the rest of the day from the food. There is so much amazing food in San Diego I would never recommend this place to anyone! Super disappointed in the food and how shady they are that they would lie to customers straight up like that!
Such a gem of a spot! Great vegan options and friendly service. The place is clean and the atmosphere is lovely and relaxing.
The Pad Thai is far far too sweet. Was like eating a dessert.
One of the worst tom yum I’d ever tried, after eating ther my brother and I get sick.
I don’t know why people does good reviews to a place like this
THE BEST PUMPKIN CURRY I have ever had! I consider this a “take out” place as Service and Location is mediocre.
Never in my life would I think I would receive my check 10 min after sitting down to enjoy my food. Terrible service, I’m not sure what has caused this energy to take place but San Diego and its service really needs to get it together. $20 for terrible service will never be worth it.
We got the vegan larb and the kale mock duck salad and two appetizers and found the meal too light and unsatisfying. The salads lacked substance and the mock meats were over-fried. We appreciate the vegan and vegetarian options though

The food is amazing! I’d absolutely come back. We got our food to-go, which was easy, simple, and effective.
There's a lot of vegan and vegetarian options and meat options so it's great for everyone. The vegan tom kha soup is really good and has a lot of flavor which sometimes vegan soups are lacking. The parang curry and red curry were also really good. The vegan pad thai was lacking flavor compared to the pad thai with meat.
Good food with great service.
Very many clearly marked vegan AND gluten free options. Love restaurants with overlap. Super tasty, fast, and reasonably priced. Excellent portion size with lots of veggies and tofu. Big fan.

Wish I could give this place 10 stars! I'm vegan and recently had a 2-week vacation in Thailand. This restaurant was SO authentic. I ordered the lunch special which is available from 11 am to 3 pm and it was such an incredible deal: for only $16 you choose an entree which comes with a small veggie soup, a side salad, an egg roll and 2 pieces of fresh fruit. 🤯 My entree was the Panang Curry with mock duck and OMG. I have no words. The soy meat, veggies, sauce, rice... everything was so well seasoned and tasted delicious!!! The server asked me to select a spice level from 0 to 10 and I went with 5 but my it ended up being too spicy for me! But that's ok, now I know to lower my spice level next time. Lol. The coconut ice cream was the perfect sweet ending to my heavenly experience. I'll most certainly return again and again! 🙏
Delicious food!
The pumpkin curry is outstandingly good! Super friendly service and amazing food:)
Best green curry I've had. Would recommend.
It could have been better but the service was awful. Food was just „okay“. The old lady was very ignorant, we felt very unwelcome with our kids.
Wasn’t overwhelmed by the dinner entrees we had, but the spring rolls were some of the best I’ve ever had.
Great spot with a parking garage across the street.
Fresh ingredients, delicious and very well-made dishes with beautiful presentations. Extremely friendly staff and professional, pleasant and wonderful experience.
Also, there is a huge vegan menu, which is something to mention!
Enjoyed this Thai restaurant that includes Vegan menu items. Fun wall of Thai headpieces. Loved the spring rolls. The lunch special included soup/salad. Recommend folks try this spot out.
One of the best Thai Restaurant in Downtown San Diego, CA. If you happen to be a vegetarian, then this is the best restaurant for you. The food is delicious 😋🤤 and price is very reasonable and affordable. I had the lunch special and the portions were really good 😊.
Customer service is 10/10. A very welcoming restaurant 😊. I highly recommend this restaurant. I also enjoyed the Ginger Tea .

Really bad. Mushy rice noodle and slimy tofu.
They are open from lunch on. The lunch specials on menu are only M-F though. The Tom gum soup was tasty and I tried the sampler. Wasn't a fan of the deep fried avocado cream cheese dumplings, but chicken satay was good as well as veggie spring roll. There was also a shrimp offering, also good.
Many delicious vegan options. Friendly staff. Clean and comfortable setting. The ONLY downside is finding parking.
Vegetarians & people with dietary restrictions beware.
I came here to eat on November 20, 2023 and when I ordered, I ordered Pad Thai with mock chicken. The server didn't repeat my order back to me, but I trusted she understood that I said MOCK chicken, because I've never had issues ordering vegetarian food at Thai restaurants before. I received my food, and as I was eating it, I noticed the protein had an interesting texture to it. The server took quite a long time to check on us, but when she did, I asked her to confirm that it was mock chicken. Her response was, "you didn't say mock."
She took the plate away (mind you I already ate half the plate), and got it remade. At that point I felt sick, and got the check. Never at any point did she apologize for her mistake, she had a foul attitude towards me, and she didn't even take my meal off the bill.
I have been vegetarian for nine years now and even my partner confirmed that I ordered MOCK chicken. I was kind, patient, and understanding to her and all staff during this experience, but I was met with hostility and passive aggressive tone.
My partner enjoyed his food, but due to this experience I will not be returning and would not recommend this place to those who have dietary restrictions or allergies.
Best Thai food I’ve ever had! Drunken noodles are the BEST! 😬
Service was good but lacked customer oriented attention.
Rich and flavorful Thai food that was quick and easy for lunch. Checks all the boxes.
The hostress had attitude, rude and gossiping in front of me and took it out on me. They also told me they can't make authentic thai food.
That lady might have a bad day at work but you are still at WORK. Be professional! You shouldn't take it out on the customer. What is wrong with you
Located next to the trolley. The food was excellent. Service was very fast and friendly. Highly recommend the springs rolls and the cashew nut stir fry. My wife loved her pad Thai. Will definitely return.
The food was great here. My 7yr old enjoyed the lemon chicken and she's like Ratatouille, if she doesn't like it she does not swallow. The vegetarian options were great too.
Came here for a quick lunch and really loved everything on the plate. They have lunch specialty menu so you get soup, spring roll and fries with the dish. Must try drunken noodles.
Excellent Thai food… we went as a group of 12 and all liked their food. Highly recommend Tom kha soup which is coconut based and drunken noodles…the service is very good too… overall a very pleasant dining experience…
Solid spot
A delightful restaurant in downtown San Diego, Thotsakan provided us with a delicious dining experience on a Saturday night with friends. We savored the summer rolls, accompanied by a delectable peanut sauce. The portions of tofu Pad Thai and chicken Pad Thai were both generous and substantial. Our friends opted for the green curries but found the portions so sizable that they couldn't finish. I highly recommend this Thai establishment if you're in the area. The staff was attentive and pleasant, adding to the overall positive experience.
Really good food
Got the fried rice (chicken), drunken noodles (chicken), yellow curry (chicken), and curry puffs (Thai samosas). The dishes were cooked quickly and brought to our table within minutes, I would like to highlight the puffs and yellow curry. Both have left the best impressions and honestly have really made this restraunt a staple for me in the future
Hervorragendes Thaiessen! Service könnte besser sein aber das Essen ist ehrlich zu empfehlen.
Avoid! They initially gave me the wrong food when I went to pick it up. I opened the box at the restaurant told them it was incorrect. The person insisted it was, and I had to push back to say "I didn't order (this specific) dish."
Finally they came back with "correct" food, but forgot the Thai tea. So I waited again for that.
Later, I discovered that I had received real chicken in my soup instead of the mock chicken I ordered. I emailed them twice about this issue, before posting this review, and never got a response.
Some of the best vegan Thai food I’ve ever had. We got the vegan pad Thai and drunken noodles with mock chicken and mock duck. Incredible! Highly recommend.
Vegan Pad Thai was delicious!
Really nice restaurant in downtown San Diego. We had dinner at thotsakan with some friends on a Saturday night and it was delicious.
We had the summer rolls which came with peanut sauce, soo tasty.
But also tofu pad Thai and chicken pad Thai, the portions are generous and huge. Our friends for the green curries and couldn’t finish.
Highly recommend this Thai place if you’re around. The staff was careful and nice.
Great vegan options and very nice service!
Not impressed, very little flavor and chicken kabobs were under cooked. Didn't finish meal.
Outstanding service is part of the reason why the restaurant gets five stars. Second reason, the cream cheese wontons. Those wontons are delicious. The cheese is very soft and the sauce compliments the cheese flavor. The curry was good but the wontons are the service are the toppers.
Ordered a few different dishes. Everything was good. Very fresh.
Staff wishws you were not there!
Delicioso todo riquisimo
This place doesnt deserve almost 5 stars. Vegan pas thai was too sweet and bland, springroll was cold. The best thing was the clear soup and small salad.. had High hopes for This one.
really not very good. overly greasy, ingredients are not very high quality for the price. lacking spice on spicy dishes.
Great thai restaurant, the spicy food truly is authentic, the drinks are great, and the Mango Sticky rice is delicious.
Great Thai - fresh and great flavors. Big portions, so make room.
Excellent Thai food, many vegetarian options
Good Thai restaurant with fresh food.
Delicious!! The food, service and overall atmosphere was great. They have something for all types of dietary preferences
Tons of great vegan options (veggie-centric and with meat analogs). Get the edamame with garlic, it is GREAT!
This was amazing. I'm celiac (gluten free) and it was awesome. I've never had Thai before. I wish there was a gluten free dessert option (the mango rice looked fantastic) but seriously I would go again. It was affordable, the portions large and the soup delicious. Can't wait to eat again! Sweet and sour duck 10/10
Cute little Thai spot! I had the broccoli and spinach stir fry with peanut sauce. Delicious! Perfect amount and came out quickly. Also the Thai coffee was very good. Great spot to go before a show at the civic center. Will visit again😀
The food was delicious and the workers were very nice! A definite recommend :)
Excellent Thai food in San Diego, perhaps I would strongly recommend with large family. Taste is authentic and good service. Sticky rice, red curry was just awesome.
I ordered the pumpkin duck curry with extra sticky coconut rice for take out and it was SO delicious that I was craving it so much. Few days later, when I returned to San Diego, I asked to be driven straight back to this restaurant. I tried the drunken noodles next which was tasty but oh do I miss the curry.... Will have to wait until I return back to San Diego one day
Love this place. Not sure there is a better Thai place in downtown. Pad Thai, Drunken Noodles and Green Curry have been our go to dishes here.
Order one of everything!
Best Thai in San Diego. Excellent, homemade, rich flavor!
The best Thai food I've ever had!
Excellent thai food. Great place to have lunch. Delicious food, fast service. Lunch sets are value for money.
Food was ok but not anything wow as compared to other thai place I visited.
Firstly chicken satey was so bland and had no flavors. But Dunken noodles was fine and at least had some good flavors. Three flavored fish was a new experience for me and it surprised me. All those salmon fillets had different flavor and it stole the limelight from other dishes.
I went for dinner over here. Overall the place is nice.
I would still say it qualifies for 4 stars for me.
We were a party of two and ordered Pot Stickers for starters (the picture shows two less because I missed to click it and started eating)
Drunken noodles and Pad See iw for main course.
Pot stickers were overly fried and lacked the flavors. We have had better at different places.
For the main course there wasn't much a difference between Drunken noodles and Pad See iw. They had the same look and feel. The only difference was in the level of spice which we selected individually for our dish.
The food is still ok, family oriented place, but can do better.
Excellent service and food. The coconut juice was v yum.
Fire Thai food. Love the peanut 🥜 sauce. Great staff.
Fantastic Thai food. I had the drunken noodles and my wife had the Panang Curry. The ginger tea was very refreshing too.
This place was great. Even our 18 month old son was eating everything he could get his hands on.
Thai food is one of our favorite cuisines, and this place didn't disappoint at all.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is casual but hip. The guests and layout can make for a bit of a loud talking environment, but we weren't bothered by it at all. Just typical restaurant chatter, but due to the box style of the building, you can hear most people's conversations even if you don't want to.
Parking nearby was a pain in the butt (definitely do not park in the place across the street as it is $30...we parked about 2 blocks away for about $13).
Best panang curry in town! Best with tofu IMO. The chicken spring rolls are freshly fried, nice and crispy, yet light.
We grabbed a quick bite before a show and everything was good. We had potstickers, soup and dessert and enjoyed it all. Would love to try more of their food in the future.
The food was good, boy not significantly different from other Thai restaurants.
The entree ( veggie pad thai) was on top easy, but as exciting as listening to a lawnmower outside your office during a Zoom call
The dining room was small, but quiet during lunch time on a weekday. The service was average but did not take away from the experience. All of the food was so flavorful! I enjoy spicy food so the standard spice level was really good, but be warned if you like things more mild. The vegan curry puffs were my favorite item.
Food was great, loved it
Thank you
Wow the food here is so good. Such good flavour. The spicy eggplant dish is very good.
The atmosphere is chill and casual.
Lots of vegetarian options.
Travelling for work, this looked like a chilled restaurant to get have dinner by myself, but the staff did not seem happy to serve a table for one and tried to rush me through my meal before I had finished. I could understand if it was a busy period, but there was literally one couple waiting and I'd barely started my entree when I was abruptly given the check.
Some of the best Thai food I've had in all of San Diego and inexpensive. It is a must.
Fresh, affordable Thai food in a casual downtown setting. The food is good and service is fast. Great place for a weekday lunch, but get there early as tables fill up quickly. Lunch specials come with a fresh salad and wonderful consomme-like soup. The ginger with veggies was very good with a nice assortment of al dente veggies in a tasty sauce with strips of young ginger. A "5" out of "10" was plenty hot for me. Will probably notch it down to a "4" next time. This would be a great addition to your workweek rotation.
The vegan pumpkin curry is soooo good! :)
The staff were very friendly and the food is alright. The portions are larger but the taste is ok, nothing to take home. At least the pad Thai I had. There's a strong smell inside the place which felt unsanitary. May be they should explore more hygienic options for the sauce tray as that really is out open
The pumpkin curry is amazing.
Amazing Thai place with solid vegan options. The "mock chicken" is so well seasoned you cannot even tell the difference. Their Thai iced tea warrants a return alone. Would absolutely recommend this place if you're looking for some reasonably-priced Thai food with vegan, vegetarian, and non-veg options at once.
Fantastic tasty food here! Flavors to temp any pallet. The ice cream is to die for. Will be back for sure. A new San Diego favorite.
Amazing place! I travel for work 5 days a week, destinations are all over the world. This restaurant did it! Not only the food is tasty, there is plenty of it for the price. To add to amazing food is the service, they actually listen to what I asked for (spice level), and also the side sauces I requested. Definitely try this place and enjoy authentic flavors and amazing service! I’ll be returning here on my next visit to SAN.
It's the chicken satay you want here. Pair with a bowl of rice and some coconut ice cream - heaven!
Unbeatable lunch specials. Delicous pumpkin curry.
Good food, good service nice place!!
We dropped by to get take out for lunch, and we found our new favorite thai food place! Although it’s a bit pricey (13 dollars a dish) the food was amazing and the mock meat was really delicious! My boyfriend had the salmon and I had the yellow curry and both were tasty. The service was fast and very friendly and the restaurant was pretty and clean.
Excellent vegan mock-meat options for every dish on the menu. It was a great choice for my family where some folks are vegan and other folks like me were in the mood for real Thai dishes with meat. Great ambience and amazing service. Parked in the garage across the street for $20.
Great staff and fast service
We had chicken satay, tom kha hot pot with shrimp, ginger tea, drunken noodle, and mango with sticky rice. All was delicious and is all I normally love about Thai cuisine. The tom kha was more lime, but I'd say I prefered it that way.
The 8 out of 10 spicy was more like an upper medium on the drunken noodle, but the flavor was still good.
The best red curry and fresh spring rolls in San Diego!
The service here is outstanding; just the most sincerely nice, down to earth staff all around. The food is very good also. We had chicken spring rolls, cream cheese wontons, garlic & pepper chicken and pad thai. I'd have any of them again any day.
Food was spectacular. My family and I have ordered all vegan items and without tofu to substitute the meats, and without a doubt, they tasted better than the real thing. Highly recommend the place, the food, and especially the Thai ice coffee.
This place is pretty quick and delicious! They have vegetarian and gluten free options. Super tasty and friendly staff. I normally place a pick up order for lunch and they get it correct every time.
Wonderful food! We dined in and the staff was so friendly. Vegan pad Thai and spring rolls are super delicious. Will be back before our vacation ends.
Not only was this the best Thai food I have had in a long time, but their vegan/vegetarian items are amazing. It was one of the best meals I've had in a while.
Great lunch specials
Absolutely lovely food and incredibly good service.
Lovely local restaurant.
The two women that ran the place were just so kind and did an amazing job managing take outs and dine in. I have never enjoyed the service so much. Beats any expensive 5 star place. Thankyou
We dropped in for lunch and were very happy with the lunch specials and the fast, friendly service. We got the potstickers to start with in addition to the vegan yellow curry and vegan pad thai.
The curry was PHENOMENAL! It was packed full of delicious flavor and features peppers, potato, carrots, and onion.
The pad Thai was also delicious and came on a heaping plate. I had to take some home (and I almost always finish my food at the restaurant.)
Overall, we loved the restaurant and will definitely be going back for more!!
The waiter was so polite, showed great respect, and Great at attending everyone who came to eat. Food came fast had a really great taste. Usually don't eat vegetarian food, but it was Amazing. I definitely will be back!
