Ordered on online... I bought the chefs fried rice with chicken and the yellow curry with chicken. Just delicious! The rice was very flavorful and I really enjoyed the curry. This is my new local thai spot when I cant drive all the way to north park.

Diner Review №2

The food was Amazing!!! And the service is next level! The owner brought us drinks and food to try. You can tell he has a true passion and wants you to love the food!!! This family restaurant is definitely a must!!!

Diner Review №3

This place was so cute, the service was amazing and the food was truly incredible!!! The decoration and lighting is so well done and thoughtful we will definitely be going back and would recommend 1000 time over!

Diner Review №4

Lovely Thai restaurant. The food here is delicious. We enjoyed a noodle dish (Pad Thai), soup (tom kha), and a rice dish (cashew nut delight). All were tasty. The service was friendly and relatively fast. The menu appears to be well-rounded. The decor was pleasing as well. I look forward to exploring other dishes here.

Diner Review №5

I’ve been going to Sala Thai for about 20 years and it’s been consistently amazing. The panang curry is my favorite dish. It’s the best around! Everyone here is lovely and the revamped interior is very nice. Definitely recommend!

Diner Review №6

I love their curries, tom yum soup, and fried rice.
Good place for lunch or dinner, and for family groups.

Diner Review №7

Food was good and was received in a timely manner. I'm so glad I have given this place a chance to order our dinner . The previous place i get our thai to-go food was closed after taking my order .
It's a little further from my house but this will be one of my to-go place from now on.
Good price, food, and service.
They are also fast to pick up their phone which i really appreciate.
I only hope they can fix/update their operation hours on Google to avoid confusion. Coz google says they close 8:30pm but uber says they're 24hrs on Fridays but when we called they actually closes at 11pm.
Other than that everything is good!

Diner Review №8

I've been going here for over ten years and they're always great. We tried a bunch of Thai places with a Thai friend and this was their favorite. Always a good option.

Diner Review №9

Absolutely fantastic! The food is terrific - flavorful and spicy. Best Khao Soi I’ve ever had. We also loved the garlic pepper wings and the stir fry. Very cute family runs the place - they were so gracious and welcoming. 10/10, will be back!

Diner Review №10

Great spot. Family operated, and the food is awesome. I highly recommend it.

Diner Review №11

Ordered take out. They have 2 for 1 specials.

Diner Review №12

Everything at Sala is amazingly fresh. Their noodles are really well done, everything the right texture. Flavors are well balanced and portions are large. My absolute favorite are the shrimp shumai appetizer. Sometimes I get 2 orders (5 in each) to make my meal. Their sauces are amazing. Prices are very reasonable.
The restaurant is not large but it’s clean and cozy.
They’re located in a shopping plaza so there’s plenty of free parking. Do yourself a favor and come by - lunch or dinner!

Amazing food!

Diner Review №17

If you’re searching for the best Thai food in San Diego, look no further than Sala Thai. This gem of a restaurant offers an exceptional dining experience with dishes that burst with authentic flavors. During my recent visit, I had the pleasure of trying several dishes, and each one was a standout.

The Green Curry was nothing short of perfection—creamy, aromatic, and with just the right amount of spice. The eggplant was tender and soaked up the sauce beautifully, making it a must-try. The Tom Yum soup was another highlight, offering a harmonious balance of sour, spicy, and savory notes that made every spoonful delightful.

For starters, I indulged in the Spicy Noodles, Calamari, and Shrimp Rolls. The Spicy Noodles were packed with bold flavors, and the calamari was cooked to a perfect crispness without being overly greasy. The Shrimp Rolls were fresh and tender, providing a light yet flavorful beginning to the meal.

If you’re in the mood for delicious, authentic Thai food, this is the spot to visit.

Diner Review №18

We've loved this place since it opened some 30+ years ago. Since moving to North County, my husband and I search for Thai food restaurants that compare to Sala Thai. We still make the trip to enjoy the food and service which has retained excellence.

Diner Review №19

The price of the mango sticky for the 3 spoonfuls of food is unbelievable. This should be listed as a sample. It didn’t even fill up half the container. Absolutely will not be returning. DO NOT RECCOMEND.

Diner Review №20

I love this place, and it has the best Khao Soi I've tried. The owner is a sweetheart, and she makes sure you enjoy your food. I go back every time I'm around the area.

Diner Review №21

I love love love this restaurant!! Their catfish is super good! I also recommend the chicken khao soi and of course some mango sticky rice for desert 😋 The staff are also really kind and service is quick. Highly recommend this restaurant, best Thai food in San Diego!

Diner Review №22

The most terrible Tom Yum on our planet, 4 shrimp and salt water.🤮

Diner Review №23

Sadly inconsistent quality and service. Can be great but seems not interested in getting it right!

Diner Review №24

I have known this restaurant since I was a teenager and the food still tastes like how I remembered it whenever I got a chance to visit San Diego again. The people are super nice and never disappoint! Try the mango and rice dessert! It's so delicious! My go-to is the Shrimp Pad See Ew (Thai Stir Fried Shrimp Thick Noodles). Thank you, Sala Thai! Brings back memories! It's always nice supporting local restaurants in San Diego with great tasting foods. This is definitely a great place to eat Thai food. 😊💞 - CandyB-

Diner Review №25

I just placed an order through Uber eats . I ordered pad Thai . Only 4 shrimp veggies not cooked well. No utensils or sauce not even a napkin . Wouldn’t recommend!!!

Diner Review №26

I stopped for lunch with my sister and tried eggplant delight, and she tried the Pad Rard Na. They were both excellent. I got shrimp with mine and it came with four large shrimp. She got chicken. Quick and friendly.

Diner Review №27

I hate leaving bad reviews but I just had one of the worst pineapple fried rice here. The rice was soggy and tasted briny, it was not good! The dish did not taste anything like the pineapple fried rice I've had at other Thai restaurants. I hope I don't get sick from it because it tasted terrible! The Thai iced tea was very bland as well. Also the server didn't provide any spices to me either. I don't recommend!

Diner Review №28

Food always fresh.

Diner Review №29

Quite yummy

Diner Review №30

Diner Review №31

The worst pad thai I have ever had. Won't return

Diner Review №32

I went here yesterday during lunch time. The lunch special comes with an appetizer and main course. I appreciated the portion sizes for lunch. Too much food slapped on a plate can be a turn off for me, so I was happy to see the perfect portions for lunch 😊

The red curry was yummy with fresh green beans, rice and white chicken breast. The only reason I didn’t give five stars was because the vegetarian spring rolls were mushy inside and bland, although they were fried well.

The staff was extremely welcoming and friendly. I will definitely be returning to grab some lunch.

Diner Review №33

Nice people but the quality was poor. Pad Thai was not fresh, all the noodles were stuck together like glue as if it was prepared earlier then sat for several hours. I won’t be going back. Pineapple rice was also tasteless with very little chicken. The egg rolls were good.

Diner Review №34

Diner Review №35

I can always guess which Thai places will be terrible by the nationality of the customers. Not a single Asian eating here, so I assumed the worse. This place serves "white" Thai food. No chopsticks or sriracha unless specific asked for. Pad Thai was very saucy, fried rice was salty, whole fried fish was not fresh, Tom Kha, was nasty. Idk what to say. Most the.people reviewing must not have eat quality Thai food. I only came beciaee my brother had a gift card. Was disappointed as I expected I would be. Service was good, though.

Diner Review №36

My go to spot. Everything is good!

Diner Review №37

This place has been my favorite Thai restaurant in San Diego for 20 years, I love that they still have the same fresh taste, same smiling faces and great service.

My personal favorite is the chicken Penang with brown rice. Just know to ask for mild if you don’t like it spicy.

Tip: their lunch special is filling & under $20! I highly recommend it.

Diner Review №38

Good lunch specials

Diner Review №39

Food was really good! Service super friendly. Very nice experience. Highly recommended.

Diner Review №40

First time ordering take out. Green curry and massaman curry were delicious. White rice was cooked perfectly. Would go there again.

Diner Review №41

Don't get the pad see ew! We had 2 orders. One was soggy and watery, and mine had a very unpleasant after taste with every bite.

Pad Thai and soup was great though!

Diner Review №42

We have been waiting to try this place for a long time. But don't go by the look of the place. It's a small place tucked in one corner. But as soon as we entered we were greeted with warm smiles and seated quickly.
The ambience is nothing great. It's like a normal Thai restaurant.
Service was really good. The food came by quickly.
We ordered lettuce wrap which I would rate 3/5 - presentation and the lettuce could be put together well. The chicken didn't have a lot of flavours too.
Our main course was from the wok hot chicken which was really nice. Came with a side of rice. 4/5
I will however go again and try other dishes. Not too expensive!

Diner Review №43

Food is always good here. Staff is friendly and the food is always ready quickly

Diner Review №44

Diner Review №45

Extremely Delicious food!

Diner Review №46

Best little Thai place in the neighborhood! Family run, with delicious fresh food and friendly service.
Photo is Panang curry with shrimp lunch special which comes with an appetizer - yummy, comfort food. Try the Chu Chee Salmon if you stop by for dinner.

Diner Review №47

Massaman curry was very yummy! Decent amount of meat and very flavorful. The summer shrimp was interesting as well. First time I ordered they didn't include the peanut sauce unfortunately but the second time they did and it was very rich! I definitely recommend this place, they have great Thai food.

Diner Review №48

Diner Review №49

Some of the best Thai food in town!
Love the staff and service! if you love authentic thai food, this is the place!

Diner Review №50

The worst thai food ever! The spring egg rolls were disgusting! There was no flavor and no peanut sauce. I didn’t eat them and they still charged me. When I let them know they offered to serve me something else, but the feeling was gone. The soup was very basic.

Diner Review №51

Asian food is tricky for me and im a picky eater... However, Sala Thai was not only delicious, but the owner was so pleasant to talk too and was very helpful with selecting my dishes.

I like spicy, so she even added a little "extra" to my selections. The restaurant is small and quaint, but seating was roomy and comfortable. I will definitely be back! Highly recommend!

Diner Review №52

Very Authentic Taste!
Excellent quite place to dine in

Diner Review №53

Delicious

Diner Review №54

Love the Tom Ka. Coconut lemongrass soup!!!

Diner Review №55

Worst Thai food I’ve ever had. Chicken larb was more like lop soup. I ordered spicy level six. There was no spice whatsoever and the chicken is completely white smelling like mince boiled chicken. Normally comes with cabbage. It came with chop lettuce. . My friend ordered, mango chicken it’s taste like old cheap Chinese food. Last time I checked, it’s Thai food. right.

Diner Review №56

My one issue is that the portions were so small. The dishes were very tasty but got home & ate a little something.🤤

Damn, I forgot to take pictures, food was good, spicy seafood combo plate was on point, chill spot for a date

Diner Review №63

Diner Review №64

Long hair deep in my food… worst drunken noodle flavor and no veggies. Thai tea was good… i dont like to give negative reviews but i didn’t want to eat it before or after finding hair. In cooking use hair nets or tie your hair back.

Diner Review №65

Great, very friendly and fantastic tasting food. Don't skip out!

Diner Review №66

Diner Review №67

Food is great. People are lovely 😍

Diner Review №68

The family has eaten here since the late 70s . Consistent quality and cleanness great both sit down & take out . Date night quiet ,lots of classic favorites . pot seu , crispy garlic duck. Recommended to all.

Diner Review №69

Service was very friendly, and the atmosphere was pleasant and clean. Food was okay, good price, but maybe not the most flavorful Thai in the area

Diner Review №70

I have eaten there many times and they always have delicious food.

Diner Review №71

Diner Review №72

I had the duck and even though I don't have much experience with duck and I don't need it to know that this is the best duck I've ever had.

Diner Review №73

Good food. Loved the Beef soup!

Diner Review №74

Untastey, inauthentic Thai food. Neighborhood place

Diner Review №75

Love love LOVE this place! Have been eating here since college in '08. Always yummy, family friendly, just plain good Thai food.

Diner Review №76

My favorite go-to Thai restaurant. Their lunch combos are the best… I recommend their pad Thai, Penang curry, or spicy chili.

Diner Review №77

Such a wonderful place! Delicious food and wonderful service!! Wish that we still lived in San Diego so that we could meet our weekly needs for Thai food. We miss Sala Thai so much!!

Diner Review №78

Had the yellow curry with brown rice and really enjoyed it. Service was good. They are taking the covid regs seriously with servers masked and are using disposable table coverings. This has all been so hard on small businesses so glad to see they are still hanging on and I will make a point to going back more often.

Diner Review №79

Good and easy thsi lunch

Diner Review №80

Worst place I’ve ever been too

Diner Review №81

Delicious food!

Diner Review №82

Diner Review №83

Excellent food, variable spice ratings, bang for the buck.

Diner Review №84

The amount of each dish is particularly small. It feels like a children's package!

Diner Review №85

This is absolutely the worst Thai food restaurant that I have ever been to in San Diego. There is no flavor in the food, the tofu is it like you are eating a rubber. The vegetables are undercooked.
And I was charged way more than reputable local Thai restaurants😔

Diner Review №97

Diner Review №98

Pretty good for my first visit. Red Curry w/ brown rice. Flavor profile was good, price for pickup was a touch high and I wasn't given utensils or napkins.

Diner Review №102

Diner Review №103

I ordered the vegetarian pad Thai the other day and it felt like it was microwaved. The vegetables were very cold and the noodles were as well. There was no spice added into the noodles or the sauce that all pad Thais have.

Diner Review №104

I love this place. The Thai food is so good especially the pad Thai and fried chicken they are a must get every time you go their!

Diner Review №105

Great neighborhood Thai spot! The Panang Curry is fantastic! And the management and staff are so careful here that we are totally confident ordering take-out and doing our own pick-up here during the pandemic.

Diner Review №106

Diner Review №107

Diner Review №108

Best Thai food in San Diego, I love this place. Food is always fresh and.delicious, prices are good, and the employees are very friendly. The green curry is my favorite!

Diner Review №109

Terrible service, ordered online, accepted order, and then they canceled order after my kids and family been waiting for 50 minutes.

Diner Review №110

Lettuce wraps are delicious.

Diner Review №111

Best Thai food in tow

Diner Review №112

Diner Review №113

Sala Thai is the best in town.
Amazing food and amazing staff!!!!!

Diner Review №114

There are lots of good Thai restaurants in San Diego and Sala Thai is one of my favorites. It is a family run restaurant and I often see family members sitting around a table preparing vegetables for the kitchen. The food is fresh and delicious, the service fast, and the prices very reasonable. Their curries are wonderful, the Pad Thai and Pad See Ew delicious. I love the Tom Ka Soup, which is richer than at other restaurants where I have eaten it and often make a meal of that with vegetables in it. Seasonally they have Mango Sticky Rice, which is the perfect dessert for a Thai meal. It's a great place for family and friends to meet for celebrations. There's plenty of parking in the big lot and rarely a wait to sit down. The service is terrific and the owner will often come by your table to ask if everything is okay. She really cares.

Diner Review №115

The host was friendly and nice

Diner Review №116

Ordered online with Uber Eats. Their delivery was spot on, but the food was very disappointing – tough chicken satay, unappealing blob of minced chicken, all thrown together. Won't do this again.

Diner Review №117

Diner Review №118

Food was pretty good as far as taste, so don't let that hold you back....I have a specific gripe.

I found them online because they advertised gluten free. After talking to someone on the phone, placing an order with 'gluten free' checked and putting "GLUTEN FREE - SERIOUS - CHILD WILL GET SICK" in the notes for everything ordered, and ordering what seemed safest on the menu (veggies with rice) , talking to them again on the phone....still had a reaction, apparently to gluten

Hope others have better luck and the source of the issue is found. Won't be ordering GF again any time soon

Diner Review №119

Diner Review №120

I used to order food to go from this place especially Pad Thai, but today I was totally disappointed, know they are serving food to go in a very small containers not the regular white one PORTION WAS HALF THE SIZE OF COMPETTING RESTAURANTS.

This Thai restaurant has been serving the area for nearly 30 years! Sala Thai is always on the cutting edge adding new items that we all want from pork belly to wings the offers are outstanding! The quality of the service and the ability to offer food for your home parties is outstanding. Just book in advance if you want to host a private party in the restaurant! Chira the owner is always willing to modify the dish for vegans; many people are choosing this as the new way of eating healthy. She offers non gmo organic tofu.

Diner Review №161

Wonderful neighborhood eatery. Delicious thai food and thai iced coffee and tea. Caring and attentive owner.

Diner Review №162

The food was great, but their service was horrible. There weren't that many other customers when we went in, so they shouldn't have been backed up but I don't know what they were doing. They forgot to bring water for my son, utensils and a to go box. I had to get up from my table n ask at the register a few times.

Diner Review №163

The food was delicious, the vegetables were very fresh. And the rice incredible! The ambiance was quiet and nice. The prices are reasonable. We had a lovely time!

Diner Review №164

Love it

Diner Review №165

Comida rica...cuidado con el picante!!

Diner Review №166

The food is quite good but rather expensive. And the last time we were there the service was lackluster at best..

Great food and great service. We stopped there for dinner with a group of 8 and they easily accommodated us. The highlight were the curries. Generous portion and great taste. This place is tucked away in a corner of a strip mall so it's easy to miss it. But don't.

Diner Review №176

Old school Thai at great prices. Amazing every time. Love the lunch specials.

Diner Review №177

Great hole-in-the-wall Thai place! They got me hooked from my first visit in college, 15 years ago. I judge every Thai restaurant I visit based on their pad gra prow (spicy basil chicken), and Sala Thai has the best in all of SD! Even when I visited Thailand I was hard pressed to find a restaurant that served the same quality of food as you find here. Don't expect to be blown away by the ambiance; this is much more a home-style place, very small, with sparse decoration. But what they lack in decor they make up for in yumminess!

Diner Review №178

Diner Review №184

Hidden gem! I stopped by here on the way home from grocery shopping with my BF, it was supposed to be a quick stop. But once we saw the inside we decided to sit down and stay. The inside is nicely decorated with simple pretty lavender accents. The overall atmosphere was laid-back but very nice. The service was quick and fast and the food was delicious! Below I have a Thai tea, chicken yellow curry, and chicken curry rice. All were so delicious! Definitely coming again. Great place for dates, or for bringing the family and kids. A little slow.

Diner Review №185

Ordered on postmates - paid $2.00 extra for Shrimp Pad Thai. I got 2 shrimp! 2!
When I called they said they give 4 - 4 shrimp for $2.00- and that they put 3 in mine .....you know you shorted me or basically said my postmates deliverer ate one? Then when asking for a refund was told I had to bring the food back for that.
Tastes disgusting and has 2 shrimp. Not worth your money. Or the one star I gave it

Diner Review №186

Very comfortable dining environment, great and delicious, very affordable

Diner Review №187

Clean, nicely seasoned Thai food. Great variety and pleasant atmosphere, charming owner/server.

Diner Review №188

It's fine. Not much of an ambiance, but the food is good

Diner Review №189

Diner Review №190

Awesome Thai restaurant. Food was on point and staff were super friendly. I had spicy noodles with chicken and I was expecting less spice...well I was surprised. It was hotter than I though but I thoroughly enjoyed the food. Plus the veggie dumplings were really good, as well.

Diner Review №191

First time here and pretty disappointed. Ordered Pad Sew with Mock duck and medium on the heat scale. Portion was half the size of competing restaurants that I have been to and had no spiciness at all IMO. Not to say it was bad, just not what I was hoping for. The size of the portion will keep me from coming back though. Bummed.

Diner Review №192

Nice People. Food is clean and come out quick. One of few Thai restaurant deserve five stars.

Diner Review №193

I didn't know what to expect here, but I was still disappointed. There's a lunch menu and a dinner menu. Staff was nice and the order came out quickly.

I came for a lunch special, pad thai with veggie dumplings. In theory it should be good, but this version does not capture any hearts from me. I guess it's a good portion size for a lunch price, but the pad thai itself wasn't that great. It became a bit dry in nature, the noodles were a little overcooked, and there wasn't much flavor. Plus, it was on a top of a bed of soggy vegetables, like cabbage and broccoli, which I find unusual to have like that and doesn't make the dish look appealing.

Maybe the other dishes are better, but I would guess not.

Diner Review №194

Polite people all around, and the food is nice and flavorful.

Diner Review №195

Diner Review №196

I had the spicy noodles with duck. What I got was rice noodles swimming in grease with some chili flakes and very little else in the way of spice or seasoning. There were a few crispy pieces of duck but a very stingy portion of meat to noodles. About on par with college cafeteria food, which is why I'm guessing the positive reviews from this college neighborhood.

Diner Review №197

This is a wonderful local Thai restaurant that my family has been visiting for over 20 years. The food here is exceptional and well priced. The staff is attentive and friendly, and balance a busy kitchen well with kind caring service.

It is absolutely the best Thai food in the area and I recommend it to anyone looking for a delicious bite to eat eat for lunch or dinner. The dishes served here are extremely flavorful, and are not overpowering in heat - though you can order nearly everything more or less spicy.

I highly recommend Sala Thai as the best Thai food in town. Every other Thai restaurant that I've been to throughout San Diego and across the country falls short.
