Right next to our hotel we found this Thai restaurant that advertises Vegetarian Cuisine on its sign. We are a vegan and a vegetarian couple so we thought how wonderful to find a great place so close by! Turns out it's not all that vegan/vegetarian. There's a whole menu section called Ocean (seafood), which in my book isn't vegetarian, but I know many people consider eating seafood as vegetarian-ish. Anyway, lamb, duck, chicken, pork, beef, eggs, surf & turf are all over the menu, but there *were* dishes we could eat and they were tasty, so all hope was not lost. The best thing about the menu was the beverage section where they actually say "Vegan Thai Iced Tea (coconut milk)" and "Vegan Thai Iced Coffee." I had red curry with vegetables, tofu, and brown rice, and it was good, filling, enough for two meals - so thumbs up! My boyfriend liked his meal also, I don't remember what it was, he ate the whole thing right then and there. Clean place, nice decor, friendly service, no problems whatsoever. Just the unusual signage outside clashing with the menu inside.
I have finally found a Thai restaurant that is equivalent to the quality in Hawaii. This was the first time in 4 years where I found a Thai restaurant that spiced their food perfectly. It was flavorful, sweet, and the food seemed healthy. I ordered the $22 wild salmon panang curry. It was worth every single dollar! I actually wanted to go back the next day, and take home food back to Fontana. My friend ordered the tropical duck for $25. He really liked the flavor, but would have preferred the sauce on the side to keep the fried duck crunchy. Our waitress was very personable too! The lighting and color scheme was romantic and apparently very gay friendly!!
Day 3 San Diego - Shrimp curry and mango shrimp rolls.
Lanna Thai cuisine is a hidden gem. Despite its modest size, the restaurant exudes an air of efficient organization, making every visit a delightful experience. The staff, with their warm smiles and attentive service, create an inviting atmosphere that immediately puts patrons at ease.
One of the standout dishes at Lanna Thai is the shrimp rolls with mango cream cheese. This innovative creation strikes a harmonious balance between flavors and textures. The succulent shrimp melds seamlessly with the luscious mango cream cheese, creating a mouthwatering bite that leaves a lasting impression.
Equally impressive is the shrimp curry, a testament to the restaurant's commitment to using only the freshest ingredients. The dish bursts with vibrant colors, thanks to an abundance of crisp, tender vegetables that perfectly complement the plump, flavorful shrimp. The curry sauce, rich and aromatic, ties everything together in a symphony of taste.
In the end, dining at Lanna Thai is not just about savoring delectable dishes, but also about the overall experience. The combination of a small yet well-organized space, amiable staff, and exceptional cuisine makes it a must-visit for any connoisseur of Thai food.
Amazing!!! We order a lot of Thai food, and we're in town looking for our favorite food. This place has great food- our favorite pineapple fried rice we've had at a Thai restaurant, pad kee mao was SO good and the pad see ewe was such great flavor. I would pass on the spring rolls, sub par. But everything else was super good! Hottest we got was a 6/10 and i feel like it ran on the hot side of other restaurants. ENJOY!
A small Thai place with a large menu. Something for everyone. Avoid the crowded parking lot and find a place on the street. The menu has the usual favorites and many things I've never heard of, but will try.
They were busy but they got us seated very quickly and the food was EXCELLENT. recommend the pad see ew.
Best thai food in San diego . Provides high chair for kids .
Update on December 2024: Went again and same quality, same taste. It was full and saw lot of happy faces.
Kinda obsessed with this food. Why is it so good 😆
Amazing food, excellent service. Lots of veg options
the tofu yellow curry is out of this world
I was surprised with the quality and taste of the food. The ambience is good. During lunch it was busy and two servers were working hard to stay on top and were very polite and professional. I will go back to try other dishes.
bad attitude
Great panang curry and fresh coconut
Fantastic food, service, and ambiance. We eat here a couple of times a month. Very good every time !!
Whole fried fish was absolutely delicious. The fresh spring rolls with tofu and shrimp were also great. We’ll be back!
Always delicious. I've been coming here for years. Their 'island treasure' seafood served in a whole coconut is fantastic. The curries and fresh spring rolls are also favorites. And try the mangotini - you'll likely want more than one!
This restaurant came highly recommended but our party of 4 didn’t think the food was good. We got the pad Thai, Thai fried rice and massaman curry and all were just ok.

Excelente lugar para comer si te gusta la comida de este tipo de cosina llena de sabor me pedí el basil fried rice delicioso y muy bien la proporcion para el lunch, lo acompañe con un Thai tee muy rico y fresco le doy 10 de 10
Amazing Thai place, best in SD so far
We will be back!!
Very tasty food and good options for vegetarians.
This is one of our favorite Thai places in San Diego. The food is good and reasonably priced. We have tried half the menu and are never disappointed.
The only negative is that the parking lot is small, and you often have to park down the road.
Nice

There are better Thai places all over san diego. They were very nice in there though.
“This curry is so badass” - my friend
Delicious food. Good service. Price is also fair.
Busy place because word is out that the food is fantastic!
Ordered the duck curry, crab fried rice, and salmon tri-curry dishes. I’m gluten-free so they were able to accommodate that on all 3 dishes, which included using gf soy sauce on the fried rice. All 3 dishes were fantastic and the salmon dish included red, yellow, and green curries. Loved the green curry best! The massaman curry on the duck dish was also very flavorful. The crab in the fried rice was REAL crab and very juicy. I would definitely order all 3 dishes again AND try even more dishes based on my experience so far.
Service was very friendly and although they were very busy on a Monday evening, several servers checked on us throughout the night.
Would definitely go back!
Decent, but standard Thai cuisine. Not good enough to recommend, but if you’re needing lunch and are near there, it’s not the worst choice you could make.
Xllnt food and xllnt service. I have eaten here more than 20 times.
Fave Thai takeout spot in SD
.rfy
I love the atmosphere here but tonight the waitress kept asking tables if they were done with their food yet. It felt as though she was rushing us. It was 8:15pm and when she assumed me and my friends were done, she said it's because they close at nine. It felt awkward and we just got our food so I lost my appetite after that and we left promptly after paying the bill.
Best in town
great food
We went for lunch. Great service and good was excellent.
We really loved this place. Staff were very good. They were friendly and took care of customers very well. I was very impressed with their compassion.
Food was excellent.
We had papaya salad, Thai tempura and chicken supreme. All dishes were tasty and quality was very good.
For dessert we had fried banana with Thai tea ice cream. Thai tea ice cream was heaven.
Will definitely visit again.
My husband’s favorite Thai restaurant in San Diego, we had to make a stop when we visited. He always gets their Pad Thai (with duck if available), I’m a fan of their curries & noodle dishes. The staff is really considerate & helpful; they are happy to make dishes as spicy or mild as you ask. My only complaint is they keep trying to fill my ice water, so either I’m playing defense on my cup or feel obligated to drink it (hate wasting water, especially in California). Overall a great place to eat. [:)]
We went to this place for almost ten times during these years. Foods were good all the time, but today the service ruined the experience. We had a group of people sitting separately in tables for 4 or 2 to make things easier, but we still got all the bills with a mandatory large-group 20% tip. After talking to the manager, she said she was going to waive the mandatory part. However, we still got bills with that mandatory part. What the waitress did is she took the bill back and then put the same back on our table. They intended to charge extra to get the easy money. Most people just don't want to spend time arguing. That doesn't mean it's the right way doing it. 20% tips are not big deals. But, a mandatory tip for a service we didn't receive, nope. The waitress even verbally harassed our table after we argued for the mandatory tip but before actually paid the bill. That's a very intriguing response, particularly based on the timing.
Fantastic food and lovely staff.
Excellent everything- food, service, location. I love coming here and they just added nice new outdoor tables. Highest recco!
Everything was awesome except that 2 dishes were not done as per vegetarian request.
Good Thai, better than most but could be better.
Had high hopes for this place given the great reviews but ended up disappointed. Food was average at best. The Lanna platter was just okay, the massaman curry was bland and tasted a bit odd, and the honey duck was tough. They also gave us rice in mugs which was strange. The workers were nice even though they were short staffed. There are definitely better Thai places in San Diego.
Love me some curry
The only downside here is the parking. Great food for a good price and the atmosphere is amazing.
The food us great
Cuisine thaï super bonne, attention à vos papilles !
This place was spectacular. Best Thai I have had in SD and you wouldn’t think from its location in PB but elegant at the same time as chilled and relaxed. Always a lot of people there enjoying their meal along with a lot of folks waiting for pickup. They are super quick making the food and always hand it to you with a smile
Great Pad Thai!!
The food was ok … the service was good but the overpriced menu ruined the experience.
Delicious yellow curry. Had level 3 spice, which was perfect - just a hint of heat. Sweet rice and mango for dessert was excellent!
Food is delicious! Always a go-to for Thai
Quality food and presentation. Clean atmosphere. Good service.
Excellent food. We had Spring rolls, Massaman curry with vegetables, Thai iced tea and Basil fried rice all of which were flavorful and hearty. The ambience is lovely too.
The only downside to our visit was the waitress, she was rude and unbothered, made a face when we asked for water refill and hot chilli oil, maybe she just shouldn’t work at a restaurant if she doesn’t like it.
Best Thai in Sd.
Had the lamb shank on the special menu and it exceeded expectations greatly. Highly recommend.
Good
Nice Thai restaurant.
Good service food tastes good.
Only thing is parking.
Love this place
I like getting to go orders from here. If dine in is the same as to go service, you'll be treated. Lanna Thai has the largest fresh salad rolls of any Thai restaurant I've ever been to. Definitely to share. The food is, for the portion and quality, probably under priced. The heat scale is relative. 7/10 is nothing and 10/10 is fire. And I'm keen to spicy food.
Amé este lugar. Tiene un sabor delicioso y tiene opciones para que lo pidas desde muy picante a nada picante. Es ideal para comer en familia. El servicio es muy bueno, todos son muy atentos.
I love this spot. Everything tasted fresh and delicious! I had take out one night, red curry, and it hit the spot, I had to go back and bring a friend to try some more menu items. Great portions too! The second time we had the yellow curry and drunken noodle with a heat level of 7, with tofu and chicken. It was so flavorful. I was truly impressed. I also had a lychee martini and it did not disappoint. The staff are so courteous and attentive, the place itself is really pretty inside, great for a date, very intimate, and clean. It’s now one of my go tos for Thai in the PB area! And last but not least, they have some amazing prices, especially considering the portions and quality of their food. Thank you so much Lanna Thai for such a great experience!
Tom-yum soup and pineapple rice were terrific. Service was outstanding. Definitely recommend 👌
Omg best massaman curry and pad Thai. Been dreaming of it since the other day.

Knowledgeable about dietary allergies. Accommodating, fast, polite, excellent food. For two with a gluten intolerance and celiac, we ordered the pad thai and their surf and turf entree.
Amazing!
Great Thai restaurant! Red curry was incredible. Spice level of 2 was perfect. Reasonable prices.
Only downfall is they don’t take AMEX.
A real gem! Best thai food! Great staff and service. Upscale decor and use of space. Even with two tired seven year olds we felt welcomed. Highly recommend the duck. Even my mom, who doesn't like duck, asked for another bite.
Meh
Green curry was ok. Papaya salad ok too
Not a fan of the pad Thai flavor or noodles
Very generous portion of chicken
Lots of parking
No wait
Lanna Thai is amazing. The yellow curry is my favorite. Service is always great!
One of the best thai please I visited in the recent time’s.
Food was authentic and delicious
One of the best Thai foods in San Diego
My boyfriend and I got take out after surfing. The red curry and drunken noodles were delicious. The woman who took our order was very sweet and the service was quick! I recommend.
For authentic and reasonably priced Thai cuisine, this is definitely the place to go. Check out their specials like the whole fish entree that happened to be branzino that was fried on the outside and very tender and moist on the inside. The pineapple fried rice is another favorite. There are many seafood dishes to choose from and also a few 'American' style meals for those who don't like mainstream Thai. The restaurant is clean, nicely decorated, and the staff are all very nice and helpful. There is some parking in the lot in front of the building. If you like Thai beer, they have that, too. Overall, our meal there was outstanding, and we would certainly go back again.
Every single meal that we had hit the mark. Evening though we arrived late the staff was able to pull tables together for us and did not rush us through our meals. Each staff member had wonderful customer service and were extremely helpful and friendly. The shrimp wok was delicious and highly recommend I only got a 2 on spice. My family loved the surf and turf and island treasures which is a seafood medley with curry sauce. My ultimate favorite part of the entire meal was the dessert of fried bananas with coconut ice cream it is the perfect flavor pairing and textures of sweet banana with a thin lightly fried crust with black sesame seeds and coconut ice cream that is slightly icy and creamy. This is the best dessert I have had in a very very long time. Thank you for making my birthday dinner so special.
Delish food and great service! I forgot to ask for my noodles with extra sauce and the waitress brought my food back to the kitchen and quickly had them reheat my food and replaced it very professionally. Love it here!
Excellent experience
The food is excellent, the service is friendly, and the small restaurant is charming. The ocean spring special is a wonderful seafood medley. The Pad Thai was very good. I enjoyed my duck curry. The Lanna Thai appetizer is recommended. Other guests recommended soft shell crab.
It's really good steak
I ordered a vegetable delight and it had small pieces of chicken in the sauce. Seems like you can't trust their vegetarian options. Also, the soup they serve for dine in service is made with chicken broth.
Pad Thai was delish, as was the chicken rice. I really liked that they asked what "heat" spice I'd like. I went with 3-4 and it was perfect. My friend got the 10 and her face melted off but she was happy :). Fried banana was a nice dessert. Super friendly service. I'll be back.
Great food and reasonable prices for lunch.
Great food!
Some of the best I have ever had and staff was amazing!
Not going to write a crazy long post. I love Thai food and this might be up there with the worst I’ve ever had. Pad Thai and panang curry. Very watery curry with hard vegetables. Pad Thai was… okay, and that’s me being nice. Could’ve been an off night so try it if you want.
I ordered from Lanna Thai through door dash after reading mostly great reviews and I have never been so disappointed in food before in my life. The pad Thai was almost inedible. The vegetables were hard and tasted sour, and the panang curry had the consistency of water. For the high price I would’ve expected a much better quality. Save your money and try Thai food somewhere else.
If you are visiting San Diego this restaurant is a must,
Love this place, it's small so if it gets packed it can get a little loud. Also, if you like spicy food you will get it here but luckily on a scale from 1 to 10. There is a big difference between numbers, so if you are normally a 7, I would try a 4 first.
I eat here all the time, for years. It has a great gluten free selection.
My favorite place to eat Thai food the food it’s amazing and the service it’s the best
I’m delivery driver. This restaurant is horrible. Always long wait time and they don’t care.
Outstanding Thai Cuisine here at Lanas.
From the Pad Thai, to the flavorful curry & Seafood dishes.
Lanas is always consistently ftesh with high quality ingredients.
Polite and effecient staff.
Highly Recommended!
Great food, great service. Love it.
Excellent food.
Pleasant and relaxing place to eat Thai food. Very authentic and service is reasonable, not outstanding, but good.
Amazing variety of Thai food. Also delicious whenever we come. The quality of the food is great. Service is terrific too. When they're busy it might take longer for menus or food.
The best thai food in san diego
Got the curry and it was ok. A little bland imo. The crispy spring rolls were good. Haven't tried anything else.
The best Thai food in the area. The owner is super friendly and remembers repeat customers. Citrus Chilean Sea Bass is buttery and perfectly cooked every time. The noodle and wok dishes are all delicious, particularly the Pad Thai noodles, Pad See-Ew and East Eggplant wok.
I had the masa man curry and jasmine tea to drink. The curry was really good, and a big portion- half of it went home with me. It has a good ambiance to it! I was dinning solo, and enjoyed my early dinner/late lunch very much. The sunset from the window might have something to do with it
Food is fine, taste is ok. We tried basil fried rice and pad ke mao, compared other we tried this didn’t impress me much. We arrived at6:30 and got table around 7:15, huge wait time.
Great food with excellent service
Best food
Absolutely amazing! They had the best yellow curry. I was recommended it and was not disappointed what do ever.
Superb service and food is always perfect. They are amazing- from 2019.
2022: This is a great place for food. Unfortunately, it's very tight inside due to limited space. It's a great place for brief lunches or take out. They do deliver.
Nice food. Love the quality!
Great Thai food! Wonderful staff!
We were visiting San Diego from the Palm Springs area. There were 2 families in our group. We had to wait for 10-15 min before we could be seated together. We considered leaving, so thankful we didn’t leave. Food was So Worth The Wait!! Waitress was on it. Food and drinks came out in a timely manner. The timing between appetizers and main course was perfect. They never tried to rush us. We all had something different, and everyone was totally satisfied w taste and portion. We had the house appetizer sampler, that set the standard for the tastes we were about to experience. I’m writing this review 24hours after we had dinner and I so want to go back and have it again. Do yourself a favor and if necessary, wait a few min and delight yourself w amazing flavors and top notch service.
Great fodd and a mellow atmosphere
Danke!
Amazing Thai food! Service is outstanding
They have vegan options and coconut milk for the Thai tea! Delicious
Been going to Lanna's for several years now. I highly recommend this amazing Thai restaurant, it's the very best in San Diego!! They have amazing top notch Pad Thai, and delicious curry dishes. Lanna's get's 5 stars!
