Thai Food Restaurant
The environment was clean and quiet. My family and I had a good time there since we could sit comfortably and have adequate privacy to chat. The waitress was friendly and patient. The restroom, what I care most, was clean. LOL.
We ordered Green and Yellow curry, and we gladly ordered rice for the curry. Please don't miss the rice; otherwise you will regret not having it. Fried rice was awesome, and I mean it as being a person of having fried rice background culturally.
Don't forget to go next door, Ginger Elizabeth, for dessert.
Upon entering we were told to seat ourselves where we pleased. This place is so quaint and clean.
Our server Erick was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and suggestions. We ordered Calamari as an appetizer and our entree were the Salad Bai Yok Chicken & Kow Pad just egg and beef. The food was served heat hot and the taste was so flavorful & fresh with both orders.
We will be back
I really like this place (I had it mixed up with the place upstairs Veg Cafe but they are both really good). I have been here several times over the past few years and I went back recently. They have a fairly diverse menu with vegan options. (Check out their menu). They have a “seasonal menu” that changes from time to time.
The service was really good and the atmosphere is nice. You can adjust pretty much anything as far as gluten free, vegetarian or vegan options. Most of the entrees and items are Thai types so lots of noodles and rice. If you’re vegan or vegetarian and like Thai food I would recommend this place 100%.
Service is great. Food was great, and a lot of dishes coming out of the kitchen looked amazing. Lots of vegetables and great colors. Portions of main entrees are a bit small for the price, but the flavor is good. Pad-thai is a bit on the sour side. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. They have lunch specials. Parking on J St is paid parking Mon-Sat, but you can usually find free parking on the numbered streets.
The red curry was pretty bland, I asked for it very very spicy and it was mild at best. Service didn't ask if it was spicy enough. Prices keep going up and serving size keeps getting smaller. I received a very small scoop of rice which was gone before I was 1/3 done.
Had a great time at Thai Basil. It was my first time and I thought the menu had a nice blend of Thai staples, but also a pretty impressive specials list. I had salmon cakes, and they were much tastier than I was expecting. I had the fried rolls, too, which come with a nice sauce, and I tried the mango sticky rice and fried banana with ube ice cream for dessert. The portion sizes were reasonable and the price and service on point! I'll definitely go back.
The service was great, the menu is quite thorough and very informative, the endless water is excellent however my favorite part of this restaurant is not only the food but the atmosphere. I tried the Seafood soup with the creamy coconut broth, I am not lying when I say this was and is the greatest soup I’ve ever tried, i consumed the entire bowl they gave me and cried tears of joy. Thank you Thai Basil for such an amazing experience your World class seafood soup brought me not only joy but a brighter outlook on life. Will come back and we order it again 😼🙏🏼
Love the soft shell crab curry here! The fresh salad rolls are also amazing and so is the Thai ice tea. The black rice ice cream dessert is awesome too! Cool little place with nice outdoor seating!
Update: The pad thai and yellow curry are also amazing!
Except for the lamb chops, everything else is ifee!? I dont recommend it.
Walked in around 730 Tuesday night.
Volume very loud and place had several empty tables.
Sat upfront by window and soon was overcome with people yelling at each other at most tables not sure is the alcohol or what. The waiter came by he was yelling at me as he dropped off an ice water no menu and I started to ask no ice but waiter was on disconnect.
Young woman took order never saw menu I always try pad Thai in new place
Tea came again the male waiter too stressed running around.
Food came pretty fast size was more like a lunch te than dinner entre.
Noodles were big sticky ball nothing could get between them including my chopsticks. No flavor no spice even though I ordered med spicy.
Chicken dry no flavor very mass produced.
Male waiter came by about when I was done how is everything I just waived my hand as ok and justed wanted to leave.
Young woman who was my waiter I had to wait and flag her down to get her interest and that's when I shared pad Thai was not very good she asked i told her.
I didn't look at amount but when I see $17 plus $3 for chicken that was at most something to eat I kind of thought this is wrong.
Young waitress said oh? Bloom feedback gave me bill and I walked out.
This place I'm sure is on the lower end of great food and atmosphere

Portions are ridiculously small for the higher prices. About 3$-$4 more per entree compared to your average Thai restaurant because you have to pay extra for meat.

I always enjoy their super fresh food and great service. Curry is fantastic and their noodles are perfect.
Ordered the vegan pani puri, vegan Impossible garlic noodles and pad Thai. Quality, real food. So many vegan options that they have a dedicated vegan menu. And vegan dessert menu!! Most importantly, all delicious and excellent!! Super sweet staff. The owner came over and checked on us a few times, very nice and friendly lady. She told us about how the restaurant has been open for over 20 years and they were one of the first to offer an exclusive vegan menu. And she offered us some just baked pumpkin spice crème brûlée with vanilla ice cream. The vegan cheesecake was amazing, too - topped with a beautiful hibiscus and basil sauce, fresh mangoes, strawberries, apple and pineapple. Very nice atmosphere and ambiance. Wonderful all around. Super impressed!! Will definitely be back.
Vegan food is not good enough to eat
I ordered online for take out. The rice portions were very small and not enough for the two orders of curry. The yellow curry had about 2 potatoes and 3 carrots in it with about 6 shrimp. The shrimp was so tough I had to trow them away. The curries were primary liquid. The noodles were sticky.
The whole experience was bad. When you open the app a large box pops up telling you to tip and the kitchen staff get 100% of the tip. You have to push ok to let you order. Then, the app auto calculates an 18% tip with an option for 20%. It is very difficult to find a set your own tip option.
I paid $70 for three small and gross entrees. Needless to say, I will not be back. AND, please pay your employees... the entree price is already expensive!
Great vegetarian options. There yellow curry was super flavorful
We had a lovely dinner with great service. Food came out quickly, was fresh, hot and delicious. Glad we tried them out and can't wait to go back.
I've always loved Thai Basil. While the food could have more spiciness, only for my own preference, the food quality has always been topnotch.
It's a great place to sit down, eat, and chat away.
WORST TOM KHA EVER. !!! Was take out. You usually see the spices of The kaffir lime leaves, lemongrass, galangal. All missing. All that was in there were mushrooms, and limited chicken. Asked for the second hottest which is usually really hot. Not Hot at all. Basically just had limited Thai chili and coconut milk. This is my go-to when I try a new Thai place, very disappointing. There are four to five different Thai restaurants within blocks.
We will be back
I love the salads here. I use Grubhub to order all my on campus meals, I wish I could get delivery instead of walking!
The environment was clean and quiet. My family and I had a good time there since we could sit comfortably and have adequate privacy to chat. The waitress was friendly and patient. The restroom, what I care most, was clean. LOL.

The best thai around.
Drunken noodles 😕 Special the beef feels like I'm eating rubber, and price on the higher side compared to others Thai restaurants .
Best Thai in Sac ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
yummy food, attentive service, and a great menu full of options for any restrictions/allergies!
Ordered the crab potstickers they only have 4 when i said something to the waiter he said they are only made of crab when i know I seen they had chicken and pork so he lied also the food was horrible the mango sweet rice was small portion fir 9
As many times that I have been here i have always received great service. Food is very flavorful. You can taste the freshness of ingredients. Highly recommend if one is in the mood for some great tasting Thai food
Omg 😆 was soooo good! Food was fresh and seasoned just right. The restaurant was as very clean and service was top tier. Visiting from Washington DC, this was amazing.
The best tofu drunken noodle I've ever had. Very fresh and flavorful.
Very friendly people at the service
Overpriced
We say the cutest thai restaurant with great ambience. We stopped to check for vegan options and were thrilled to receive not only a dedicated vegan menu but also a vegan seasonal menu. The selection featured both traditional classics and unique creations, making it difficult to choose from the plethora of options. Everything we tried was delicious. Their house tea, made from a blue flower they grow and dry themselves, was exceptional. I only wish I didn’t have to leave town so soon, as I would have loved to try more of their offerings. If you’re vegan, this place is a must-visit. It's surprising it didn’t show up on Google when I searched for vegan-friendly Thai food. So i had to make sure to post a review of this vegan friendly delicious spot. The owner also talked to us such a kind woman.
Super yummy.
🍜The pad see ew is 100/10, I recommend to order it with a Thai fried egg. The beef is very fresh and tender.
🍗The Roasted Cornish Hen is AMAZING. Crispy and savory.
🥟The golden pouches (wontons) are crispy, juicy, and tender. Very gentle flavor from the wontons themselves, but the sweet n sour peanut sauce adds a nice tang to it.
🥩They had a steak option, and the sauce that comes with it is SO GOOD. A salty, spiced, savory profile that really makes the plate.

Best Thai restaurant in town
Great little place.
Yummy food.
Kinda pricey, but good.
Let me start by saying the food here is 10000/10. I got the drunken noodles and the black sticky rice with coconut ice cream and wow I drool just thinking of the dessert. The only reason I give this place a 4.7 is because for the prize, the portion wasn't that big. The sparking sake was also amazing great, I got a big bottle for about $15 which filled up my glass twice. My server was very friendly and immediately greeted me when I came. The restaurant itself is in a beautiful area in midtown so I'd recommend this spot for solo dining or coming with friends and family. Very comfortable and pretty.
Overall pretty disappointed. The drunken noodles is about half lettuce with half noodles on top, so it looks like a full bowl of noodles, and is not. The waitress didn’t really greet us, and didn’t once fill our water. Confused, we called out to the kitchen after waiting for service and they filled our water, and then we were waiting again. So we called the kitchen again for our bill and boxes. We asked where our waitress went and he informed us that she LEFT THE BUILDING. The environment is cute but the food isn’t good enough to make up for that service. The guy from the kitchen was nice tho.
The service was great, quick & friendly. The atmosphere is perfect for date night and to top it all, the food was delicious.
This is my favorite Thai place in Sacramento and some of my favorite overall food in Sacramento. Can’t recommend it enough. I love ordering whatever they have on their vegan specials menu. They have all been incredible so I just trust what they create and go with it!
Wow! Very unexpected good!!! I think it might be the best soup I've ever had
Delicious food and extremely fast service!
I haven't been there for more than a decade because I usually eat at their vegan spot upstairs. That being said, Thai Basil didn't disappoint. The place was kinda empty, and it seems like a lot of their business came from the takeout. I got the impossable kimche fried rice, and I'll be enjoying it for the next two nights.
This by far the BEST Thai food in Sac. Cooked to perfection and with love. My fav is the Kow Pad fried rice with shrimp.. The service is excellent .
Excellent!
I eat here when I have time. The plates can range in how they look from day to day. Like the fresh spring rolls with shrimp. There are some pictures that look way better than my plate, but they could be out of some garnishes. I get the yellow curry meal but make it green cause I like the taste of their green curry. They have outdoor, indoor, and a second story. The view of j Street is never that appealing, but you'll probably see the crazy homeless that stalk the corner parking lot of Chicago fire from the second floor. The outside area plants give a nice block and they take you away from the street view. It's not really fun for me when I go alone. I don't really like to people watch, but if that's your thing there are always people around. They have art and statues you can look and wonder about, so it's not all bad.
Best Thai I've had on a trip! The drunken noodles were perfect and I will be going again!
This neighborhood staple has a great selection of authentic but approachable dishes in a relaxed setting.
tom ka with mussels is amazing.
Eh. It’s fine. Would’ve rather gone to THAI if it was open
The most disappointing $23 chicken pad Thai I’ve ever had. Never coming back.
We were seated immediately. Our appetizer was okay. We ordered two curry dishes. The green curry tasted soapy and was too salty and the avocado curry was even more salty.
I paid with my credit card and placed the card near myself on the table. When the server returned the card to the table, he placed it near my male companion.
Inexperienced waitress. Chewing gum the entire time. Noisy when removing dishes from the table. Not much customer courtesy awardness.
Service is terrible. They can be rude. I noticed they treat their white customers way better. And there’s always flies buzzing around and on the food. Not to mention v expensive.
Cute little place on J street. Food was absolutely delicious and service was wonderful. Definitely recommend!
Been here many times before and the waiters here are always super nice and have quick services!! always come with my family on sundays and although it can get a bit busy at times, the food is super delicious and very filling!! Especially the desserts those are quite good aswell, atmosphere is nice and cozy, if you know anyone who is vegan and wanna go somewhere nice and have yummy food, I totally recommend coming here!! 10/10
Love this place been going for about 9 years now
So good! Very friendly.
This was our favorite restaurant in Sacramento. We rushed there and arrived 30 mins before close and they wouldn’t serve us. Lost us as customers for life. Really sad that they would treat repeat customers with such disdain.
Get the green curry!!! ☘️☘️☘️☘️

It's not the prettiest restaurant, but their food is so good, best Thai in Sacramento, I think!
There were 7 of us and everyone really loved the appetizers and all the dishes ordered. Lost a star because we ordered Thai hot and there was no heat at all. :(. We were surprised because the waitress said if we order it that hot we couldn’t send it back?
I ordered the Thai fried rice to go which was excellent, but they didn't give me any silverware or napkins. Please train the people to pack the proper to go items in bags. People may not be taking there food home. I had to stop for these items. When I called right after to tell you, would not answer the phone.
Simply was not impressed. That's all!
Consistently good with lots of vegan options
Amazing! Order the RP6!
Really great food at a very clean and cool place. Won’t regret it.
Cute little spot. Great food and the servers were very nice and fun to joke with! Visit when you can
I looked up reviews and since they are mostly strong decided to order some take out. Either this restaurant is very inconsistent or other diners enjoy bland food. Got the Pad See Ew and it was sour and otherwise flavorless. The tofu was chewy and very hard. The Tom Kha soup also lacked flavor, was overly sour, and had a very thin consistency. The chicken in it was so dry and rubbery. Sticky rice dessert was the best part - the mango was fine. The sticky rice itself could have been better and was like one big thick blob. Flavor was ok. Food did arrive quickly, but otherwise was mostly inedible. And not spicy whatsoever. So disappointed. I’ve tried Thai Canteen several times and it was much better.
Really enjoy this place. Quick, clean and friendly staff!
good
Food and service were both amazing!
Great food, geeat flavor, great spice. Ordered delivery and they forgot one of the entrees when I called the woman on the phone was extremely nice and apologetic and had a replacement ready in 5 minutes. Honest mistakes happen and they did everything right to fix it. It is a little expensive but I think worth it. Would definitely go again and recommend to any of my friends/family.
This place is absolutely fantastic! My wife and I go everytime we visit Sacramento. We live in Alaska so unfortunately it's only about every two years or so. She will start talking about Thai Basil 3 months before we get there. Some of our best dates have started at this place.
A bunch of my friends recommended this place to me, and I was not let down! Food was amazing! Highly recommend this place!
You're walking up and ypur eye catches the green paint of the building.
There are tables inside and out.
If you're going for dinner, highly recommend getting there at 5 or soon after. It fills up very quickly.
The menu is extensive and there is a vegan only menu as well.
Wow oh wow, blown away by all the dishes we ordered.
We went for the Vegan chef challenge. Yum yum.
Everything thing is good, just have to close your eyes and pick if you can't pick.
Staff was super friendly and helpful.
Highly recommend.
The server suggested something and it was delicious
I love it so much here. The people here took such good care of me and I was really the only one here in the restaurant after one table left but it was good because I got to charge up my laptop and my phone it was two tables here next to outlets and the lady here so sweet.
Now, that mushroom dish amazing the fried mushrooms here I couldn't even finish it played it with so much and it was really delicious. Let me explain.
You know how you've been to a million restaurants and they have fried mushrooms on the menu and it's just those regular tiny small white mushrooms maybe they're cut in half. And you know when it's done good it's a really good okay thing to order.
The mushrooms here are way more better than that and they're so substantial the flavors are delectable you can taste the smokiness the crispiness in the peppers and everything man it's so good I'm going to come back.
Had the pad see ew. Good portion sizes
Just awful with horrible customer service. Our food was completely inedible. The spicy eggplant tasted like something that had been in the bottom of the refrigerator for weeks. The texture was mush. The fried rolls were pale—not fried at all. The green curry was bland and soapy. When I called I heard a long, sad story about why. Bad days happen and I understand. Unfortunately, this was the second time in a couple of months so I’m not so sure that sad story was 100% accurate. I was told I’d receive a full refund by the next day. A few days later it still hadn’t happen so I called back. Same sad story. Got it—when can I expect the refund—was told it would be taken care of immediately. Now it has been over a month and no sign of it. THANKS SO MUCH, THAI BASIL!! Bad food, bad service, bad business.
Excellent service, delicious fare and wonderful ambience on the patio outside. This restaurant in lovely Sacramento is a keeper.
Best Thai... we love going to Thai Basil. Delicious food & consistent quality. Yum!
Great food and pleasant little restaurant. Nice waiter. Give it a try!
Food is FRESH and DELISH!!!
The Thai food here is very healthy tasting and not too oily. It's a great spot if you're vegetarian and have dietary restrictions because the staff is attentive to it. Pricing is on the higher end of the spectrum. The food however, does not taste super authentic. The green curry does not have much flavor, no basil flavor at all despite the restaurant being named after it. I did like the pad see ew. Protein is extra. Portions are average sized. I did like the presentation of the dishes.
My gripe was how hot it was eating in there, wish they turned the AC on more. I was sweating through the whole meal. Service is very friendly and interactive.
First time in this place. Did not know what to order. We started with a fired mushroom appetizer. Quite honestly, this is the reason for the 4 stars. This dish was bad. I could not find the mushroom. All we had was fried onion. The avocado curry and the Thai fried rice were really good and the portions were big. Because of this, I will go back and give this place another opportunity. Service was a bit slow but that was because it was only the waitress and the cook in the establishment. I guess sign of times. Another reason to go back and support.
Never review food . I go out every weekend . Inside look pretty .. look traditional except the jazz lolz . It's supposed to be a nice day out with my family . It turn out it a nightmare 2 dish very salty , pad thai chicken is chewy , sour , no tastes just salt , burn rice , burn onion !! It's doesn't taste like thai food . The fried fried super oily , salty , did u see in the picture? ><
Dessert is good , appetizer is good.
Each dish cost 17 $ add meat 2.5 . Over prices . You could have done better as a chief
You don't know how to cook ?? BAD EXPERIENCED 👎 ever !!!
This is literally my favorite Thai spot for probably 20 miles. I come here often, bring my dogs, friends, etc. and have never had bad service. I just looked up their page and was surprised to read some of these reviews... The taste is excellent, they accommodate allergies, they are very consistent, I've never had any problems with service.. and there's almost never a wait. To me, this is a gem in Sacramento!
Ordered for pickup 5/18 at noon. The pad thai and fried rice are good. I was sad because the green curry felt like a waste of money it is bland it tasted like basil and coconut milk. It is missing green curry paste, sodium, and aromatics. I was also disappointed because I ordered a lot of sticky rice and it was already hard on the outside. Thai Basil has good reviews, but I think I’ll stick to Vientiane Restaurant or Taste of Thai.
I ordered the yellow curry with brown rice, cucumber salad and peanut sauce to go. The food was good. I was also charged for cashews which I didn’t ask for, but the cashier/owner offered to take it off the receipt. I decided to try the cashews with the yellow curry. I tend to be adventurous. The cashews were a hit, an added bonus. The menu seemed outdated in that I was charged more than what was listed. Other than that, my experience was pleasant. I was even offered water.
We parked in front of the restaurant and it looked like someone was going to break into the car. He was eyeing our phone/GPS that we keep in a holder for directions. Once we realized that we left the phone in the car we retrieved it just in time. The owner confirmed that there had been small break ins in the area. Beware and take your valuables with you.
While eating my leftovers I discovered some chicken in my tofu curry. Also the chunks of carrots and potatoes are too big.
Very tasty food and nice staff.
Delicious quality food. Drunken Noodles. Spicy Thai Rice. Green Curry. In that order. You won't be disappointed.
Great vegan options. Worry free ordering because Menu show options: Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten free , and Soy free. Amazing food!! Delicious!
The nicest staff I've ever met. Every time I go there I'm warm greeted with a smile and delicious food.
Good food. Nice ambience and has outdoor seating to enjoy the hustle &bustle of the city at the same time have a peaceful dinner.
beautiful vibe and nourishing tofu pad thai. thank you <3
Awesome food and the eggplant is the best the severs are great
Excellent food, service was great. Recommend the pineapple fried rice.
Best Thai food in downtown Sacramento! Fresh ingredients, excellent service and typically ample parking for downtown. I have dined here since 2007!!
So delicious
Routinely voted one of the best Thai food restaurants in sacramento.
Great food, great service
I had a lovely afternoon enjoying lunch outside with friends.
Had drunken noodles that was fanstic! Super fresh veggies. The hosts were super kind, and I loved that they used the water that we didn't drink to water their plants :)
It’s fine. Not mind blowing or anything but solid Thai, good quality meats
Yummy 😋
Food was way too salty. Portions are small for price paid.
Amazing Thai restaurant! We had the drunken noodles w shrimp and chicken and the Holy Chicken as an appetizer:) Both were GLUTEN FREE and taste great!
The Service was great! Our entrees were fine.
Good food.
Delicious food, friendly staff.
My husband's soup was awful. The chicken in it was dry and there was pretty much nothing else in it but broth. He ended up sharing my noodle dish which was ok. Very disappointed and won't eat there again.
Fast service, REALLY YUMMY food. Very pleased, have come many times. Thank you!
Absolutely delicious I had the Korean summer barbecue dish. Had corn and mixed vegetables with like four pieces of ribs. Would highly recommend
Service was fast and friendly. Food was decent
Great service and good food. Excellent gluten-free selection which is so rare!!!
Gan Garee-Gai Yellow Curry w/ Chicken was delicious, however, the potatoes were not cooked through till done. The accompanying rice was also delicious. And the service at lunch was great!
Thai Basil has always had great service, delish food, and I love that's there's dedicated vegan options that are just as tasty. I go here more than I should. Thai drinks here are way too sweet for my taste but they are popular with others. I try to go at lunch or early dinner when things aren't too busy. They just started allowing people to dine inside, but they have a patio and solid to-go service if you prefer.
I always enjoy my food....
But yesterday...food wasn't so great...
My Lemongrass soup had no flavor..
Normally it's packed with flavor....Fried Mushrooms no flavor @All....I was very disappointed ....I kept asking the server for Salt and Lemongrass flavor something to help.....Dinner was horrible
LOBSTER POT STICKERS SOUND VERY APPETIZING..WE WOULD ENJOY EITHER SEA FOOD SOUP / THAT ARE SPICY ...THEIR MENU LOOKS VERY DELECTABLE...
Amazing thai restaurant. Staff was kind and helpful assisting my friend (who had never had thai good before) select something that she would enjoy. we were also happy to see plenty of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options and alternatives were available and clearly marked on the menus.
My food was great, and staff were attentive but not overbearing. I'll definitely eat here again!
My two friends enjoyed the food. I had spicy fish and chips and found the food dull. Service was good
Very polite! Great outdoor seating options✅ However our food was a little greasy & Overall tasty and fresh veggies were awesome 😋
You never disappoint! Thank you for being my number one go to for Pad Thai!! Love you guys ❤️❤️❤️
I loved the food at Thai Basil, everything was very delicious and our waitress was fast and efficient.
Soo delicious! And everyone is sooo friendly!
