Great little spot. Easy for kids to eat. Soup is good. Good amount of chicken and the rice has good retention of chicken flavor. Try all the sauces for sure. Jabanero is a must.

I’ve had Hainanese Chicken Rice in so many different places, but imagine my surprise to get one so pure, clean and delicious as the one at the little Rooster & Rice Pleasanton location! The plate was ready almost as soon as I finished paying, and the quality was out of this world! Tender, succulent chicken, fragrant and savory rice, super clean broth, and the dipping sauce was addictive. I only wish we had one of these in Monterey, CA!

I ordered the original, which had the chicken and rice with this amazing garlic and ginger sauce and a side of veggies.

Similar to hainanese chicken rice or singapore chicken rice, the thai chicken rice features moist chicken over fragrant chicken rice, slices of cucumber, topped with cilantro and comes with a side serving of chicken broth and mixed soy sauce condiment. The soy sauce mix contains minced ginger and bean. The basic chicken rice serving is $10.95 with a mix of dark and white meat, if you request all dark meat, it will cost $1 extra. The place only seats 12, so it is mainly a take-out place. There are health conscious options such as tofu and brown rice. I think i can eat this twice a week. 😆

I visited this place for the first time for a box with a big piece of chicken with jasmine rice. Chicken is very tender and juicy. Seasoning is perfect. Rice is not dry, it's pleasant texture when i put a spoonful into my mouth. The sauce comes with it made the dish even more enjoyable. The small cup of chicken soup is simple and tasty. The service is quick and efficient. The place is small, but eating place was very clean. Highly recommend.

Only 14 seats inside, but it moves quickly and makes excellent takeaway. Drinks include Thai iced tea and coffee, cane sugar Coke, Fanta, and Sprite, milk soda, and coconut water, all $3. The sriracha sauce is not the rooster style, less sweet, and the habanero sauce is excellent.

This was a surprised to me! I didn't expect "the original" to be that good. I'm glad I found this place. I intend to visit at least once a week.

Ample parking as its in a strip mall. We were the only 2 customers at around 4pm.
Food has to be ordered and picked up at the counter even for dine in.

This place was outstanding. I got the original and you can really taste the chicken flavor in the rice, broth and the chicken. Love to see places with a simple menu and actually cooking in their kitchen.

Nice employees, I was late to pick up, they made a new one for me because the old one is cold.

The chicken is very moist and juicy! The rice is perfectly cooked, never dry. And their soup helps balance the chicken and rice dish asking with their sauce.

Delicious chicken, the brown rice is cooked perfectly. The soy ginger sauce adds a wonderful flavor to the dish.

Overall experience was good, the food is straight forward nothing too crazy, I tried the skinless “Marina” and the original with the skin... and I must say I’m a fan of the skinless cuz the skin one had an after taste I couldn’t get used to, but my friends liked it so 🤷🏽‍♂️

Pleasanton住兩年難得吃不膩的飯。他家海南雞飯真是我在美國吃過幾乎最好吃的。我喜歡tights 但雞胸肉會比較健康。走過路過不要錯過。

Used to come here religiously but over the last 6 months the prices have increased and the quantity of food has been reduced, making this place not the deal it was previously. Food has been pretty good overall, not a lot of options but the original plate plus the habanero sauce is one of my faves.

Salad with chicken thigh and is a great keto/paleo/GF option, if you skip the dressing (check to see if they've gotten gf soy sauce if you want dressing). Lots of kale & veggies!

Bland and overpriced

Simple fair with not a lot of choices. But you know sometimes when you are good at one thing you should stick to it and this is Rooster and Rice. Skinless chicken was moist and tasty, brown rice was not hard or overcooked. Broth soup was obviously from cooking the chickens and was also good. Sauces added that nice little bit to put it over the top.

If without the ginger-soy sauce included, I find it little hard to eat the chicken (YMMV). I'm not used to dish like this. Chicken is like steamed or something. Serving is just enough for 1 medium sized person however the pricing can be 1 or 2$ less to be like below $10 meal.

Food was great! Definitely a Thai spin on the traditional chicken and rice plate. The chicken meat was a good amount. The white breast meat was a little on the dry side, but it was very lean and the sauce was fantastic! The habanero sauce they have added just the right amount of spicy kick as well. The accompanying soup was also delicious and light. Just what I needed on a rainy day.

I also appreciated the fact that their packaging was mostly compostable. That's not often seen outside of the SF/Oakland areas. The only downside is the tiny size of this restaurant. I ended up taking my food to go because there were no seats available when I came at lunch on a Saturday. The place seats 12 max if everyone doesn't mind the close proximity of seating.
