Casual, stylish Thai eatery & sushi bar offering range of rolls & noodles, plus sake, wine & beer.
We arrive on Friday night and the restaurant is busy. However, the staff still managed to take care of us very carefully although the wait time little bit long. I and my friend were surprised by the Drunken noodles and the rolls, the amount of food was reasonable. They have a lot of items on the menu so new customers might get confused, the chef's recommendation board right above the sushi bar will help you know what to order. We will come back.
We’ve been going here for over 15 years and the food has consistently been good. However, we will not be going back again after today’s experience.
Terrible Customer Service:
After getting take out and not being happy with the food, we called to talk to a manager and were told “we don’t have a manager”. The lady was argumentative and then hung up on us. Called back and they hung up again :(
- The Pad Thai noodles were extremely greasy (sitting in puddles of oil), and lacked flavor. The oil also had an old/rancid smell. We asked for spice level 7 and the food was not spicy at all.
- The papaya salad was an extremely small portion compared to the past. Flavor had no resemblance to a typical Thai papaya salad.
- The wasabi had zero wasabi flavor. We have been having sushi for over 40 years and have never tasted anything like that. It was essentially green paste. The ginger was very dry and clearly not fresh.
Sadly, we will not come back and definitely not be recommending to friends and family anymore :(
Let's just start out saying overall we had a great experience. I can't put my finger on it but walking inside you don't get a welcoming feel. Kinda dark and has an older feel. Don't let that fool you, the food was really good. Our food was really fresh and flavorful. My biggest knock is they were working a skeleton crew of 3. The Sushi chef had to come out and help the tables. After waiting a bit the sushi chef even brought us our bill. The place started getting packed and I can only imagine service suffered a bit more after we left. Give this place a try, you won't be disappointed.
TL;DR Good variety and selection, where is the spicy at?! Ambience is better at the sushi bar, so don't bring your curry eating friends like me :)
My family enjoys the sushi, but when they bring me they don't get to sit at the sushi bar and enjoy that experience bc I don't order sushi. I got a curry with a spicy level 9 but it wasn't spicy. The sushi eaters of my group enjoyed their meal. One noted the wasabi wasn't very spicy. The dining area was clean and quiet. The music was enjoyable for a "born in the 80s". Forgot to check but I think it was Coca Cola products. We went on a Friday, parking was getting pretty full, but no wait to get seated at around 7:30 to 8:00 in the evening. Food was fast but still gave us time to enjoy our plates to share before we got our entree. Didn't have to wait for our check but wasn't rushed to leave. Is this review two hundred words yet? My kid had dessert, they were out of a few options of ice cream. The imported beer selection was pretty good and decently priced. The outside parking lot smelled awful like sewage, but had nothing to do with the restaurant as far as I could tell. No television inside which is a plus for me when dining with the easily distracted family.
We came to this place for a first time and it was so delicious! Wish we would’ve taken photos but got too excited to eat. We got the fresh spring rolls for an appetizer. For the entrees, I got the Pad Thai w/spice lvl 3 and my partner got the Pa-Nang Curry w/spice lvl 5.
Everything was amazing and we finished all of it! I know some on here might say that the servers were asking if they were ready more than once, but I just feel like they’re eager to take our orders, we never took it negatively! And once we told our server we weren’t ready, he gave us plenty of time til we were.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this place if you’re looking for some good and flavorful food! I’m glad we had the chance to pay them a visit and we definitely will be coming back soon!
This restaurant serves, hands down, the best Thai food I’ve ever had. We ordered take out from them during covid and raved about it, so now that dining-in is back we wanted to have the full experience . We ordered Tom Yum with shrimp, chicken pad Thai and Penang curry and not only was it as delicious as we remembered but the presentation was beautiful, too! Olivia was our server and she was so very kind and helpful. We will always be adoring patrons.
Such a hidden gem, I almost don't want to share. Great sushi and rolls, fish is so fresh. Prices are normal to less expensive than other sushi places. I highly recommend trying this spot for sushi.
We’ve been going here for over 15 years and the food has consistently been good. However, we will not be going back again after today’s experience.

Bad experience in here
I've been going here for a few years and the food is great, but over the last year the service has really gone down hill. We were there this evening and it took an hour just to get drinks.
Yes, SO Good! Imagine a Thai green Curry bento box with Tempura. Far for us but worth coming back weekly! Oh ya
Wouldn’t recommend going here. Ordered an appetizer and two entrees. One entree came out, 10 minutes later the server dropped off the appetizer. We asked about the other entree and they said it was coming. We had to wave down another server and we finally got our missing food. There are better options around for sure.
Such a hidden gem, I almost don't want to share. Great sushi and rolls, fish is so fresh. Prices are normal to less expensive than other sushi places. I highly recommend trying this spot for sushi.
Loved the sushi bar. Miguel was awesome!!
Will need to go back and try the rest of the menu!
Server kept asking us if we were ready to order even though we said we weren’t. She couldn’t give an opinion because she “doesn’t eat meat.” Tried to take away my wine before I was finished. Didn’t ask if we wanted anything else before producing the bill. Seemed not to be a qualified server. Food was fine.

Está buena la comida el Sushi también
Service is less than par. I've been a regular here for years (shouldn't matter online or in person). Love the food. Hate the service. Get your poop in a group.
$10 for hot water and a tea bag and an iced coffee. Ridiculous
Very good family restaurant with plenty of options for everyone. My dad and I love sushi and seafood which is an opinion the rest of our family doesn’t not share and this place is always the perfect compromise. They have an excellent selection of fresh fish for nigiri and sushi as well as a very broad menu of different Thai options which will almost always have something for everyone. Definitely recommend checking it out!
I stopped in the other for lunch. I was seated right away. The place was nice. Decorated as you would think being a Thai restaurant. I ordered the drunken noodles lunch special. It was very good. Came with soup and an egg roll. The portion was large, I took home some leftover drunken noodles.
I recommend this place.
Thai food was so good and the coconut soup WOW delicious 😋 you need to try the sweet rice with mango, so good.
Love this place...
If I could give a zero I would, I used to love this place but the last couple times I've came, the bald male server would forget he sat us down and it would take forever just to get a drink started , still giving the place a chance and benefit of the doubt we went yesterday .and we sat down, he walks by us we are already sitting for 20 minutes he then asks us what we would like to drink we said a sake and Sapporo, then 30 minutes pass we flagged him down asking if he remembered he says "wait" and we still never got our drinks almost an hour and we were hungry. We were bummed about it , decided to get up and eat across the street. As we walked out the man watched us and didn't say anything . What a terrible experience and we just got off work ready for dinner. Not sure if they need more workers or he just dosent care . Sad
We enjoy coming here when our sushi craving kicks in. The staff is very welcoming and the food tastes fresh.
I ordered a bunch of appetizers, I had been overcharged. I left the restaurant in a rushed for the event. Also the satays were hard and dried. But one thing for sure I will never come back there!.
Hair in my food! I’m gonna warm everyone RN. I had hair in my food. It’s disgusting!
Vanessa and Marvin are amazing!! No matter how busy it is, they always give amazing service! They work soo hard. They deliver amazing food always the way we like it! Van is the best Sushi chef around!! Fish is fresh and the sushi rolls taste amazing! Perfect every time!!
Our server was hustling. Place was packed they were understaffed but did a great job. Thank you for the great service and food. It was their first day back after being closed for sometime and it was our first time here. Our kids loved it! We will be back for sure!
This place was amazing!! We got the pineapple fried rice with chicken and it was everything we could’ve asked for. The servers were polite and helpful, the food was hot and tasty would recommend for sure!!
Unfortunately I have to update my previous review because Cafe De Thai continues to go down in quality. Today at lunch we were among the first to arrive so they were not busy. We placed our order and then waited... and waited. I kept wondering why they did not bring the salad and soup like they always do with the drinks. After some time they brought my entree, so I asked what about the soup and salad and was told they were coming. I put the entree off to the side since like most people I prefer to eat the soup/salad first. When it did come the salad had about enough dressing to cover one piece of lettuce. The soup was good but boiling hot. When I finally got to my entree it had cooled off and I noticed it seemed underdone. No grill marks on the chicken, the broccoli was so hard it could hardly be eaten and the noodles were totally undercooked. Not once did anyone come by to ask how our food was or if we needed anything. Finally we flagged the server and asked for boxes. She did not ask how our meal was or anything else, so just a complete service failure. This used to be one of our fav Thai restaurants but I doubt if we will go back anytime soon.
We arrive on Friday night and the restaurant is busy. However, the staff still managed to take care of us very carefully although the wait time little bit long. Sushi is delicious,Fried rice is too dry
Dont put screaming babies next to people with no kids. Took 12 minutes to get our diet cokes. I had ti chase down a bus boy to get a container to go and still going on 45 minutes for our waitress to bring our check.
I've been eating here for over 12+ years but recently my husband and I ditched the sushi restaurant we used to go to and started eating here more frequently. The food is amazing. There has never been a time when the food wasn't good that I can remember. Service is outstanding. Van is a GREAT sushi chef who helps everyone else out in the restaurant and makes my husband really delicious uni shots. Vanessa and Malvin are also amazing at what they do. They are so nice and friendly. I recommend the Kelly roll, larb, papaya salad and the salmon skin roll. Ask for their house made garlic ponzu sauce. You won't regret it!!
First thing you notice is the super large selection on the menu, I would reduce the amount of choices. The price was good for what we ordered includingv3 glass of wine and 1 large beer. I'm surprised that white rice doesn't come as part of a sashimi order, they charge $3 for a cup of white rice and $2 extra for brown rice. Check you receipts to make sure you are not paying for something that you didn't get.
I waited 90 minutes to pick up 7 side dishes for dinner.
The best California rolls, fried rice, and wonton soup around! Oh, and don't forget the mango sticky rice for dessert!
we often bring large groups to dine and drink and spend alot of money. so sorry to say new ownership has caused service and food quality to decline. will keep an eye on future reviews to see if any return to former glory before we go again
What has happened to our favorite restaurant?!!! Our favorite waitresses are gone , the service is horrible/nonexistent,. I thought my popcorn scallop was inedible, it used to be one of my favorites. The DOUGH on it was not tempura. Then another day the vegetable tempura had the same heavy soggy batter on it! The sushi is still great... don't EVER loose Van please. We want to dine there a couple times a week and get "to go"but we hesitate to recommend Cafe de Thai to our friends. Other friends say thai noodles and soup is now flavor less. Have you changed chefs, owners or quality control?
Change in ownership, no more free refills! Prices went up . We came 2/14 at 430pm. 2 servers for a fully booked restaurant, 3 hours from start to finish, they forgot our water and messed up the punch card rewards. 10 people waiting to be seated. The food was good but we probably won't return since they are skimping on the menu offerings.
This time I ordered the assorted sashimi which came with a miso soup, chicken satay, and Thai tea without boba. It was all delicious. My server was attentive and the food came quickly.
We love Thai Sushi for takeaway house fried rice with chicken, triangle puffs and chicken satay, in fact just picked up order just tonight
Honestly I've only ever ordered their food off ubereats... many times... but I've gone across vista, carlsbad, san marcos, and oceanside to find the best pad thai. I found it and I just wanted to share. Thank you!
Great fast quality food. Ordered by the time we sat down the food was already ready.
Great food and reasonable prices
This place does so many things well! Sushi, ramen, spring rolls, curry!
We ordered take out sushi and we’re incredibly disappointed. It was lacking flavor and didn’t taste fresh at all. We ended up tossing most of it.
Great food. East and South East Asian varieties. Friendly service. Gioza and fried calamari pleasantly complimented the sushi!!
Great food and sushi 🍣. Friendly atmosphere and service
The food here is always excellent and so is the service.
Great food, great staff,
Sushi rolls were delicious. Fast and friendly service. Will definitely return.
Very good for a local area!!!! I really like interacting with the employees very fun and friendly. The food is really delicious 😋
Another review stated that the food was a little bland, I agree. Big portion sizes. We had thai dishes. The sushi options looked good though.
Delicious !
Our go to Sushi 🍣 restaurant in San Diego. The service is the best, the workers make is feel very welcomed
One of our local favorites. You can't beat the combination of Thai and Sushi! There is something for everyone. Pad see ew and Drunken Noodles is our favorite with an assortment of sushi. Staff is always there and ready to serve. Place also has a sushi bar if you don't want regular seating.
Like the serving size and the speed of service. Want a tasty and filling lunch with quick service? Look no further.
My new sashimi go-to place. I love sushi rolls and sashimi so I tried one afternoon here. Location has plenty of parking. I came in happy hour. I had salmon sashimi for $15. I tried their spicy california roll for $5. All good. Will definitely come back. Service was great too. If you are planning to just have the rollls or sashimi, you can stay in their bar with the sushi chef. They are friendly and attentive. Im coming back here!
The sushi chefs are the best, the food and fish is always fresh , the prices and service is really good also 👍
Delicious authentic Thai food with many options to choose from.
Love this Thai-Japanese restaurant that offers great dishes from both cuisines. The Happy Hour menu is a fun way to try their appetizers.
This is THE spot to get Thai food at. The service is always friendly, attentive, and fast even when they’re busy. I come here often and I have tried a variety of noodle plates and sides. I have to say the food is consistently delicious. You can tell the chefs take pride in what they put out. The overall environment of the restaurant is welcoming and friendly. I highly recommend this place, it truly deserves so much success.
it is delicious
Sushi was great. I ordered pad thai and I will not order it again. It was salty, noodles were mushy.
Once a week, on average, we treat ourselves to one of the best sushi/Thai restaurants I have ever been to. Delicious food for every palette. Hard working, friendly wait staff make for a great night out, on our own, or with friends. A++
The Sushi chefs, very funny and pay attention and spend the time and energy to serve the best quality Foods and prestentation
Many issues with this restaurant I've been a customer for a long time so I was there when they had the mice problems and recently the waitress Vanessa has not been putting in my order right away until half and hour later and that's not how you treat a person who constantly comes eat with their family
Love coming here. Every roll I get I love more than the last. I crave mango sticky rice for weeks after getting it. Soo good.
The very best house fried rice with chicken and triangle puffs in San Diego, Vanessa is the best
Nice place. Decent mango sticky rice and great sushi.
Love the Sushi, only place I go to.
ewww so gross. sushi made me feel
sick to my stomach i couldn’t even finish or have half my meal. it was really so low quality
No television inside which is a plus for me when dining with the easily distracted family.
The sushi I got was okay but the Thai curry sauces didn't have the traditional bold flavor that I was looking for. Also be a seafood Dipper had no flavor and tasted like low quality Frozen bulk bought seafood . The service was good though as our later stayed late after they closed while we finished eating.
Love this little hidden gem! Some of the best Thai around and sushi is bomb
Went to DMV to pay car registration. In and out in less than 10 minutes . 9am is great time to go.
Tasty curry options
GREAT food EVERYTIME !! !!!!
Great food.
This place used to have decent drunken noodles and sushi. Now their drunken noodles dish is 85% broccoli and onions and 15% noodles and 100% unappetizing. Also, I ordered a Cajun Tuna Roll today and the tuna smelled like the Oceanside Pier. I sent it back and they didn’t charge me, but seriously ruined my appetite for the night! Not coming back.
Good eats!
Sushi is great. Curry is great.
Liked the food, service and atmosphere.
Food was fantastic, service was stellar! Thank you for the exceptional experience at your tasty restaurant! We will be back!
Ordered Uber eats for the first time in months .. that service was good .. But to say I’m bummed about my food is putting it mildly after such an expense .. I ordered Yellow curry & instead of potatoes it’s full of soggy broccoli & mushy tofu… so disappointed.. not what the discription said or what I’ve had from other Thai places… weak curry flavor & thin sauce vs creamy … won’t be ordering here again
Very happy with the service and the food.
Favorite place to eat! You can eat sushi or thai, you always happy with your food.
Love their tea!! Excellent!!
Terrible customer service.
I don’t know why they can’t help a first time customer waiting by the door for more then 30 mins with no help. They made eye contact with me multiple times and didn’t even bother helping me but helped the others first that came after me.
Not sure what the problem was, maybe this restaurant is racially motivated to ignore certain customers but I definitely DO NOT RECOMMEND if you’re trying to wait more then 30 mins to get helped.
I've been there several times & this is the first time it was this bad.
Service... just running people around forgetting stuff.
Got the bento box:
Soup was cold
Salad dressing was pure salt
Tempura tasted like the oil was a month old, I mean it tasted bitter
The chicken teriyaki was the worst ... cold & it tasted like they just dropped the sauce from an old bottle.
And the bobba was hard as a rock.
The sushi is always good and the curry is decent but the rest... be careful.
Love the food and the staff. Very friendly neighborhood place that welcomes you.
Our go to for yummy Thai! Love their Tom Kah soup!
Order a higher number to get the desired spice. But nice and comfortable.
Consistantly delicious, fresh ingredients, well plated. The staff is friendly and attentive. Prices are competitive. We have never been disappointed!
Food is tasty
First up, the menu is vast. Anyone knows a menu so big across 2-4 food cultural sets can’t work.
I opted for what was commonly known as Thai curries. The reality was far from good. The dishes were jammed full of vegetables and simply lacked any meat or significant flavour or spice.
Actually on reality, it tasted like something you’d get from a sauce jar from the grocery store. Okay for those that don’t know Thai food. If you do, don’t bother.
First time here. Met a friend for dinner who highly recommended this place - said he'd been coming here for years. I ordered the chicken pad woon sen with chicken. Other than them making it with shrimp ( they quickly brought out the chicken after letting them know), it was great. The food was delicious, large portions, and ambience was nice. Will definitely be back!
Went for lunch special and ordered pad see ew and pad Kee mao. They almost tasted the same. Nothing spectacular. It as nice that they gave you a bowl of coconut soup (Tom kha soup) or miso soup and a salad which was just pretty much lettuce. They were really skimpy on the salad dressing too. The lunch special sizes were really tiny too for the price of I think 14.95… it’s good if you’re not picky but like I said, wouldn’t be my go to place for Thai. The ladies were friendly and the interior seemed nice and decent.
I have had pad thai at many places but this one had a different take. They served it in what looked like a tortilla bowl.
The Noodles themselves had a prominent tamarind taste. Not bad.
We tried out 3 different soju cocktails, all which tasted like sugary water.
But the place and the service were nice. Seems like a very nice place to come for some quick lunch. I heard of this place from some coworkers. I would recommend it
The fried rice was delicious and huge
Favorite spot to eat
This is my favorite sushi place in the Oceanside area. The rolls have generous amounts of filling and always taste so fresh, they haven't once made a mistake on any of my doordash or to go orders. Just tried the yakisoba tonight and it was absolutely perfect, love having the option of spiciness level.
Excellent Taste and Service !!!!
👍👍👍👍👍 (five thumbs)
A good selection between Thai food and sushi, though I suggest going to either and all Thai or all sushi restaurant if you want good food. Our waitress was terrible. Got our order wrong. Never made the spicy fried rice we ordered. The spicy garlic edamame was burnt (not sure how that happens) and the tempura had crab legs instead of the all vegetarian option we ordered. Out waitress only came by our table once in the 90-minutes we were there. The bus boy asked if we were good more times than our waitress.
Long story short, go somewhere else if you want Thai food or sushi.
I placed my order on the Grubhub website on my home computer on Tuesday on December 21, 2021 for my lunch. I ordered one Pineapple Fried Rice with grilled Chicken meat. The price was $13.29. Then the one order of the Shrimp Tempura Roll Sushi it comes with 6 pieces. I received soy sauce 4 packets and Wasabi and a slice of Ginger with chopsticks. The price was $8.29. My beverage was the one regular size Thai Iced Tea with a lemon wedge. My total cost was $2.50. One small size Miso Soup was $2.50. Inez my Grubhub driver delivery driver arrived earlier by 5 minutes. The total bill was $40.05 with the 5.60 tip plus the service fee $2.50 and the delivery fee was $3.99 and the sakes tax was $2.00. Every thing I ate the Pineapple Chicken Fried Rice was very delicious with the Shrimp Tempura Roll was also very flavorful. The Miso Soup was really good. I highly recommend this restaurant.
This place is just what you need if you can’t decide between Thai and sushi! But while both cuisines are available, neither is being done as well as other dedicated just-sushi or just-Thai restaurants. But the novelty is awesome and the food is solid and affordable.
Wonderful food!! Sushi was very tiny for the price, but the Thai curry was gigantic for the price!! I will certainly be back again and again for the curry, very creamy, flavorful, good veggies, good tofu. YUM 😋
This place has good chefs my buddy hu, Was behind the sushi case for quite a few years and these guys have only gotten better he since retired but passed the torch onto some awesome chefs get the tuna poppers if you know what's good for you you'll have some hand rolls
Shrimp Curry is good and filling..order your food or wait 20minutes
Tuna poppers where really good except I've never seen a sushi roll so tiny in my life! It was a 4th in size of what it should be. Jalapeno poppers where good too. Sticky rice w/ mango was miserable too! Not sure the price overall matches one way or another. Disappointed on price and quantity. The 3 stars where thanks to my sons consideration.
Followed instructions to the T
Food tasted like absolute dogwater, and is not worth the price. The only good thing on the menu was the water. DO NOT COME HERE!!! If you want some delicious money worth Thai food then go to Rim Talay Thai Cuisine in Oceanside.
Ps. My wife wants to run me over for bringing her here… do better.
We really like the food here. They have exceptionally good sushi, sashimi and rolls. We usually get delivery but last night had a dine in experience and it was a great time.
Wonderful Sushi 🍣 fabulous service great staff.
Delicious! Great sushi, curry, and the Japanese ramen was on point!!!
Came here for the first time with my friends they sure have a great menu complete with Thai food sushi and a few other Asian dishes. I had their lunch special red curry and it was delicious and it came even with soup salad and an egg roll
1st time here and the food was awesome customer service was good will definitely be back
Van and his fellow Sushi Chefs serve up the best Sushi I've ever had in North County
Gutted/Disappointed 😞 that Cafe de Thai & Sushi is not open on Sundays. I was day dreaming of Drunken Noodles, delicious chicken eggplant, perhaps a tuna hand roll polished down with sake
.... only to be met with crushing disappointment, closed on Sundays 😖
Find is great especially the sushi, the service not so good.
Glad I discovered this place. Reasonably priced and delicious. Meals are prepared with great taste, right portions and attentive service. Seafood is fresh and tasty.
Service was slow most likely due to lack of employees. The food wasn't bad, it just wasn't "great".
Good food but bad customer service. Usually takes 5 to 10 minutes to get any acknowledgement from the staff.
I tested positive for covid three days after eating here and this was the last place my husband I were in public. The sushi was quickly served which makes me believe it was already pre-made. The restaurant did not have a social distancing seating and the restrooms need better keeping. They also did not enforce mask entry before seating. I wish I would have read the reviews before agreeing to come to this establishment no my health is suffering.
