Thai classics pack a punch at this compact, no-frills eatery, part of a small local chain.
Second-Best Thai Restaurant in LA!
I had an amazing experience at this restaurant. Their crispy pork with basil leaves was absolutely outstanding—easily the best I've found in the U.S.! The pork was perfectly crispy and flavorful, making it a must-try dish.
I also try their stir-fried water spinach and tom yum soup. The stir-fried water spinach had a delightful smoky flavor and was cooked to perfection, with the ideal texture and temperature. As for the tom yum, it was decent, but nothing extraordinary compared to the other dishes.
The service was exceptional. The staff were warm, attentive, and professional. Unfortunately, I forgot to get the name of the server who took care of us, but she did an excellent job and made the experience even better.
A quick note: This restaurant only accepts cash payments, so plan accordingly!
11/21/22: TLDR: Go down the street to Torung, Pailin Thai, or Chuan Chim for better food at half the price. Details: I ordered the Crispy Catfish. The waiter asked if I wanted rice, and I said yes. The catfish was good but the bill came and turns out they charged $3 for the side of rice. For a hole in the wall type of place, $20.75 for catfish (literally the cheapest fish you can buy) and rice with no vegetables or anything else, just doesn't make sense.
P'Yai is an institution in the Thai community and in Thai Town. I remember my mother taking me to eat here when I was a child and now, I am almost 50 years old! My family have been coming here to eat for two generations.
Personally, the food here is the most authentic and reminded me of the food that I grew up with in Bangkok.
Really good Thai chefs have also trained here and gone on to open their own restaurants in LA.
The staff are really sweet aunties that makes us feel like we are coming over to one of our aunts and uncles' houses to eat really good Thai food.
Rad Na, Pad See Ewe, Kai Lan w/ Crispy Pork, Grilled beef spicy salad are some of the dishes that's second to none here in Thai Town.
They have two locations, but we feel that this one on Hollywood Blvd is the best.
Please have some cash ready because this location is a CASH ONLY restaurant.
Authentic Thai food in Thai town🤤🤤 so happy I was introduced to this hidden gem by a friend
In Thai, ‘Yai’ means grandma & the name is so fitting as the food was so comforting and legit.
@eatswithedith
🍽️Ordered:
1. BBQ pork
2. Tom kha gai (hot & sour chicken soup w/ coconut milk)
3. Pad see ew w/ shrimp
Every dish was exploding with flavor & I loved how they all complemented each other. The bbq pork was my favorite which is surprising bc I don’t love pork! The sauce that it was paired with was just so delicious 👌🏻
The Tom kha gai was super creamy and just tangy enough. It’s the perfect dish to have on a cold day ☺️
💡Tips:
-bring cash!! This spot is cash ONLY
-there is a small parking lot so if you go on a weekday it’s pretty easy to find parking
💰Price:
$56/meal
I love the service, and they always give exactly what I ask for. Freshly cooked, I’ve had no complaints for the past 3 months since I started eating here for lunch or dinner
Najlepsze tajskie jedzenie jakie kiedykolwiek jadłam! Bardzo miła i pomocna obsługa. Szczerze polecam;)
This place has significantly lost over 90% of its total customers since its peak in the late-2000s. Prices have tripled, now one of the highest prices, and it's still a cash only place. No credit. Next door Torung Thai is up to 50% less cost per item than Yai. Who has that many cash in their wallets these days, especially if there's a lot of homeless people loitering around the restaurant and Seven 11 market next to it.

I love this place
Yai is my all time favorite Thai restaurant on the west side of America!!! I love their minimal ambience, & Tru to siam vibe. Buddhist fly catchers & all
Favorite dish Kai pad goo chiang!!!
Omg!!! The Roasted pork belly with Chinese brócoli is amazing!! All the food I tried here is delicious very seasonable prices good service!! I highly recommend it!!🥰
It wasn’t the best pad that that I’ve had. The service was nice.
Son muy desesperados y quieren tomar la orden a la voz de ya. Es mi primera vez que vengo y no vuelvo a regresar.
Best Pad Thai in town.
Thai food here has not changed since I first came about 15 years ago. Great-tasting food with good-sized portions. The green curry, pad thai, pad see yew, green papya slad, tom yum kha, roasted pork on bed of vegetables are my go-to items. Come in a big group so all these dishes can be shared and enjoyed.
It was the most disgusting food that I’ve ever eaten.
Still going strong for 30 years! Still loving it.
food is good, service is awful. They even shows the discrimination to people, which is unacceptable, they accept CASH ONLY and DO NOT provide official receipt, but they ask you to pay for the Tax which is unreasonable. Not recommend.
Don't let the entrance fool you. This place served really great Thai foods. I went there and had shrimp tom yum along with shrimp fried rice with curry. The tom yum was delicious. The balance between the heat and sour was on point. The fried rice was creamy. The fried rice was slightly bland, but it came with salty pepper dip of some sort, so dipping the shrimp there occasionally made it perfect.
Do beware that the restroom was a bit dirty, and they only accepted cash.
Not gone lie me and my brother where looking for a bathroom and the 7/11 across didn't have a bathroom so we went to this place just to buy the lowest item like a tea just so we can use the bathroom. My bro got the tea but I decided to get the fried pork belly since the lady at the counter recommended after I asked what was the most popular item here. I used the bathroom quick and let me tell you the bathroom was super clean compared to other establishments I visited. So I got done with my business and got the food to go, I hoped in the car and decided to give it a little nibble since I was driving all the way to San Diego. And not gone lie the first bite got me hooked idk how to explain it but I honestly love that dish with that little side of sour cup they give you. The veggies where crunchy. Not gone lie I literally stayed there in the parking lot with the car on devouring that plate. Made me want to go to Thailand and get me a wife out there lol. But great service, great food, the bathrooms are clean and I will recommend this to anyone specially that fried pork belly. Oh and that dish is so good it literally made me do my first food/restaurant review. Can't wait to go back and eat again.
Absolutely incredible — best Thai food in LA. Incredible service and affordable.
Green curry, Pad se ew, and Pad thai are all good.
Yai has my vote for top tier Thai food. It is one of the best places in Thai Town in my opinion. I have tried all the spots around, and Yai does the classics very well. The crab fried rice is SO good and comes with a ton of crab!
It is cash only.
The space itself is lacking for a nice meal out. It is a very minimal and has pretty much no decorations, but the food makes up for the atmosphere. The staff is always friendly!
The best Thai food and great atmosphere.
I don’t live in LA, but i work out here often and always crave thai food when i land in Burbank. Over the years Ive tried a dozen places in and around Thai Town and literally nothing comes close to Yai. The flavors hit buttons you didn’t even know could be hit. It’s cash only and they don’t deliver, but the challenge just makes it more delicious.
The BBQ beef is tasty. The toasted chilly dipping sauce is the best in the biz. The pork larb goes unmatched. It's perfection.
They have the best thai food. Please stay away. I want it to all to myself:-) Go eat there and support this restaurant, its the best
This restaurant is a hidden gem. It's located in a quiet neighborhood, but it's worth seeking out. The food is amazing, and the service is top-notch. The staff are always happy to chat, and they make you feel like you're part of the family.
Good services & food unnn
Los recomiendo.
Authentic Thai food in a casual setting. Between my date and I, ordered:
-Green Curry with chicken
-Pad see ew with beef + fried egg
The curry was rich and flavorful, with Thai eggplant and bamboo shoots that were well received. The chicken was cooked well.
Pad see ew was delicious and good portion. Only strange thing is that fried egg is sold separately ($3), even though that’s a necessary component of the dish.
Either way, came out to $32, $38 after tip, and they are cash only. I’d definitely come back!
Food is so good. I drive all the way from Calabasas to eat here. There’s other Thai restaurants closer but they don’t even come close
This was my favorite place and every time I am in the area, I always stopped by to get my favorite dish. But today is a very disappointed experience, I paid the lady with a $50 bill and she gave me the change which I didn’t count it. I just grab the bag with the food and the big cup of Thai tea and left. I trusted I got my change correctly, when I got home and checked my wallet, I notice that there’s a $10 missing. I withdrew cash to pay them since they don’t take credit or debit card. I can handle their bad service because I love their beef with chili garlic, but I am very disappointed with losing money.
Great food! When I went in, they only accepted cash.
I've been eating here since 1989. It's the best Thai food this side of Thailand!
Wonderful food!
Fantastic
Absolutely fantastic
Food was good. Restaurant smelled weird. They only take cash.
One of the best in town recommended 100% 👌 Cash 💸 only guys
My family and I absolutely love this Thai restaurant. It is the most authentic and delicious Thai food you can find around. We stop by often whenever we are in town. The only downside is, they only accept cash so it makes it very inconvenient for us and I’m sure for a lot of people who don’t carry cash nowadays.
I have been going to this restaurant for 30 years! The food is always delicious. The flavors & the authenticity are amazing. Never disappointed with any dish I have tried

Great place for Thai food. I highly recommend the crispy catfish spicy stirred fry. I think the portion is getting smaller each time I visit but the taste is still amazing.
อาหารรสชาติไทยแท้ และไม่ติดหวาน

You can't go wrong on anything in their menu. I have brought all of my dates and family members to this specific location and everyone has loved the food.
Used to b one of best places in Hwd! Now due to Covid issues etc! Selling dishes with bbq meat and roast pork that are green and spoiled ! Should b sued not going back ever unless really desperate
Incredible food. So delicious!
The best sea food soup!!!!
Foods are ok, good services
Delicious food
Great food
Always a treat, tasty, delicious Thai food, cooked to perfection in the tradition of "Yai" (grandma) style of cooking. in a strip mall, clean, simple dining where the food is the star. Fried, crispy catfish w sambal sauce, chinese broccoli w crispy pork belly, their own beef jerky, curry and noodles that transports you to Thailand.
Best known for flat noodle Rad na with gravy.. Highly recommended..
Delicioso 😋 😋
I'm 45 yrs old my me my mom and my brother been going here since I was 7/8 yrs old the best in California..family owned authentic Thai food. Nothing else to say!!!! Best I have eaten in LA! And I am from Singapore and travel to Thailand often!
Excelente servicio y una comida Thai deliciosa.
Very tasty soups and shrimp with peppers. The Chicken Pad Thai was just OK. This place only accepted cash when I was there.
Went there with a friend who was a strong regular when she lived in cali. Small quaint little place with a handful of tables. Food was beyond delicious and enough to bring the rest home.
Number 1 La Nah noodle in USA, best ever !!
I like Vietnamese food but I love Thai food. This place has really good authentic Thai food 👍
Best tasting Thai food! Worth the travel!
Love this spot they always know how I want my food and what I like thank you I’m always coming back
Best Thai food around for me. Highly recommend the red curry with chicken or duck, pad Thai, duck chilli garlic, beef salad, and crispy pork with Chinese broccoli.
Best tau in hollywood been going over 30 years
Me gusta la comida de este restaurante 😋 porque le hecha chile hay camarón con arroz frito bien picoso si tú quieres pollo carne los recomiendo.
Crispy fried pork belly over chinese broccoli!
This place is unbelievable. We've only ever done pick-up. If you like Thai food, prepare for your mind to be blown. Truly. Everything is full of flavor and cooked perfectly. You can't go wrong with ANY dish. Though, their BBQ duck curry is our favorite. To top it off, the service is great - friendly and always smiling. What more could you ask for?
Been going here for 17 years this place is the best of the best!
Best of the best !!! Fast cooking , all menu are delicious, affordable price UNBEATABLE!! Respectful worker , say no more ! Love this place so much . If they were 10 star I would probably gave them 10 star :)))
First time. I really like the food and service was exercise.
love this place my favorite thai food in the world. been coming here since i can remember. Service at its finest and the food always great never disappoints.
Duck, pork, beef ❤️
I've been coming here since the 90s. It's a very welcoming place with homestyle cooking and staff that treats you like family. The coconut chicken soup, crispy pork with Chinese broccoli, crispy catfish, jungle curry (whole peppercorns on the stalk are the star), papaya salad (sub blue crab for shrimp), and pad prik king (dry red curry) with shrimp are better here than anywhere else I've been.
I dislike pad Thai, but it's good here. It's not the star, but for those who are less adventurous, it's a good start.
The immediate area is quickly being built up and long time establishments are closing. Eat here while you can!
The seafood curry is amazing!!!
Great service and amazing food
My mom loves coming to this restaurant. Why it's beyond me. Let's start with the bathroom there wasn't any paper towels to dry your hands and then before serving the wonton soup they served the chow mein, shrimp fried rice and chile garlic shrimp! Who does that ? We were almost done with the entrees before they brought the soup. I was observing the waitress she was wearing a glove that she was using to put lettuce or cabbage on plate for everything. To touch money , wipe the tables and to pick up the dishes from the tables. "Big No No" cross contamination!!! I also noticed they have a "B." So I'm wondering if that's happening outside where all customers can see ? What's going on in the kitchen?! Ewwww🤮🤢
Tasty and affordable food in Hollywood
Epxelente serv.y la comidad muy deliciosa
Exelent¡¡
really good
Food is amazing here and friendly staff. Try the Nom Tok beef 🤤
Better than eating in Bangkok!
We're order moo Todd, somtum, sticky rice, and pat Thai khonkean. It all yummy!!! Service is awesome as well
👍
Very very gooooooodddd,,,,
good food
Best bbq pork and sweet sausage fried rice for the price. Cash only though
Bad customer service most people that I know don't go there anymore because servers are rude. One server asked my husband "do you need anything else?" With a rude attitude because we ordered a salad, after that I took my girls to the restroom and when we came back my plate got taken by another server. I was still eating and my husband was on the phone with my oldest son on an urgent call. She didn't have the manners to asked if she could take the plates. She chose to removed it without asking. That's why the business is decreasing since the real owner died. So sad!
The best thai food
This place makes the most delicious Thai food ever! I have been enjoying it for over 20 years.
We really enjoy going to this restaurant, but people there are kind of mean, and many times, they were acting so serious, so we stop going there for that reason, even though food is really good. But maybe about a year later, we decided to go back there, and this time their attetude were better, they told us bye with a smile. It was good. Oh we ate chicken coconut soup. Oh one more thing, I'll give them 3 stars, on our next visit, if I see them more friendly, I'll give them a 5 stars.
Best thai spot around
This restaurant is amazing!! The staff was so amazing because they were really really super nice and very pleasant to be around. I ordered some noodles and a green curry with chicken and Chinese eggplant and it was wonderful. I would totally come back here! This restaurant is a definite win you should totally go here! (Plus it wasn’t cold inside witch is a good thing!)
My entire family goes here! I mean ENTIRE FAMILY, specially my family members that are from out of town. This place is usually the first stop if we make it. This is our go-to spot! Delicious food and very attentive staff! This place is cash only so bring cash, if not you can always use the atm in the 7-eleven that is in the same plaza. Parking is sometimes difficult but its definitely worth it!
Best green chicken curry in town. The service is good and the foods are delicious
Don't order too much.... Food is good .
Solid but not inspiring. I go there frequently for pad Thai or pad te U
The food is really good.its a must go to place
Yai is my fave Thai spot. I always get the coconut milk soup and add sticky rice to it. The spicy beef salad is a winner. They have ice cold Thai brewskis to wash it all down...cash only!!!
Is terrible food and the service to bad... I don’t like it
I've been coming here for 15 years. My Thai family members recommended it and they know good authentic Thai food. Love this place. Food is outstanding.
Yai love it
Great Thai food highly recommend that place
Wonderful Tai cuisine. Reasonable prices. Clean.
Panang curry it's amazing
I used to love this restaurant but lately the service has been a shambles. I really enjoy the menu and the chefs know what they are doing, but will not return based on the service. The staff they currently have are not welcoming and friendly at all, and little do they know that i can speak Thai - 2 of them were gossiping today about us and kept looking over making us uncomfortable because we were sharing the dish, which we often do because the portions are too big for us. We order extra sides to boost it up. When we were ordering the waitress was suggesting we ordered more and was rude when we didnt. I could understand if the restaurant was full but its 5pm and was empty. Go somewhere else where your custom is appreciated.
