Pad Thai & other staples served in a bright room with colorful hanging lights & warm decor.
This place is amazing!! In from out of town so tried this place. The food is awesome!!! I don't like spicy and they made sure it wasn't. They even customized my thai tea with extra cream. The chicken satay was super tender. The peanut sauce is one of the best I've had. The fried shrimp rolls were Super Fresh. The garlic prawns were out of this world yummy. I wish they would take off the peelings but I'll definitely order it again. The pad see ew was so fresh and wonderful. I really can't wait to return to this place. I highly recommend it!!
Went on weekday during lunch and it was packed. Service was a bit slow towards the end but there was a lot of traffic in the small restaurant. The food was amazing - tried a ton of apps: the Thai samosa, crispy tofu and spring rolls. Crispy tofu was the best. Got pineapple fried rice with plenty of pineapple, cashews, egg and tofu. The Thai iced coffee was the right amount of sweet.
A Thai fusion local restaurant with clean decent decors. Provides indoor and limited outdoor seatings.
It’s a quiet space great for kids, seniors, meeting, groups, gathering and even a date; good for sport events with big screens.
Food seems authentic and a bit americanized and delicious. Fried rices are recommended. Wine and Beer only served.
Service is OK and responsive. Plenty of parking space in the plaza. For some reason, there is no cell coverage in the place and they don’t have or share WiFi either.
I've been coming here for years and the food has always been delicious. I would always recommend coming here to eat because their takeout is always less quantity than what they have when you dine-in. The lunch meals are always a perfect proportion and their dinner never disappoints. There is a plethora of vegetarian options and they are very accommodating to fit dietary restrictions.
The food was cheap & okay. Thai tea was delicious. I got spicy fried rice with pork, but there were very few pieces of meat in the dish. The dish was on the sweeter side than spicy. It was good but nothing extraordinary.
My friend got pad Thai, and she said it was okay. She has been to this restaurant multiple times, and she said other dishes that she tried in the past were better.
We also got fried tofu and Thai samosa. Samosa was great. The shell of the samosa was cripy and light. The chutney was sweet. Fried tofu came with a peanut sauce, and it was overall decent.
What a lovely restaurant! We came here for a weekend night out. The host and staff were very friendly and kind. Service was quick and attentive.
The overall restaurant gave out a relaxing and chilling vibe. It would be suitable for a couple’s date night, a family night out, or just hanging with friends.
The food was great. We ordered Satay tofu, Som tum (papaya salad), Tom yum soup with rice and Beef noodle soups. The last one was Mango panna cotta for dessert. All the food were delicious.
With an exception of Tom yum soup (sour enough but no spicy at all), I had no complaints.
Curry is delious!!!
I ordered from UberEat (never ever going to do it again). More on this later.
To my surprise, the Penang Curry did not come with rice, which is something that’s pretty much expected, but it’s okay, I let that slide since the curry was very good.
I’m writing because I noticed on the receipt from the restaurant giving me different numbers from Uber’s receipt. Restaurant only charged $20.45 while Uber charged $22. Okay fine, Uber needs to make a cut, sure, I get it.
There’s also driver’s benefits, which I think is still fine. But then there’s delivery fee on top of service charge. And poor restaurant probably still has to pay another service fee to Uber for using their service. An order of two meals added up to $60.
I think I would’ve had a much better meal in person. Sorry for the 4 stars, I hope this raises awareness for customers to not use UberEat. They’re charging customers and restaurants too much for their service.
An amazing Thai restaurant! The food was bursting with flavors—each dish had the perfect mix of spice and freshness. We tried a variety of items, and everything was cooked to perfection.
The food is good, however the service is horrible.
Had a reservation at a certain time, we show up and weren’t greeted/seated for 5-7 mins clearly standing in their presence. Once finally seated , no one showed up at our table for 15 minutes.. not even once acknowledged our table. They lack customer service.. & they make you not feel welcomed.
The staff there are lazy, though the closing time is 230 pm, they start winding down at 130 pm. Anyone who shows up after 130 are turned back
Far from the authentic taste you'd find in Thailand. The tom yum was far too sweet, and the pad thai was overly oily and bland
Food lacks quality and taste. Just overly pricy.
Good food and cozy atmosphere. Plenty of parking at the strip mall it’s in.

Great Thai food in Foster City.
My favorite Thai restaurant. Great for dining in or a takeout. My recent favorites are Bangkok duck, seafood eggplant, duck eggplan. This place never disappoints, food is consistently delicious and service is friendly and efficient.
I used to love sweet Basil. We would order to go or dine in. Something changes - the dishes this time were just not flavorful as usual. The fish dish smelled so potent we returned it, the pad tai tasted like pasta with ketchup, I sure hope the cook had a fluke of a bad day..
This was a very cute restaurant. I went for a business meeting, and it was quiet enough to speak. The waitress was very polite and attentive. I ordered the Foster City Fish, and it was delicious! That great part is you can substitute greens for rice, so I didn't feel stuffed by the end.
Tasty food, great service, good environment. Will visit again if in the area. Ordered chicken curry, string beans chicken, and chicken soup all medium spiced. Yum.
Asked for extra extra spicy and was ignored. I asked the server and she said she didn't want put that request in.
Desserts are a lot smaller than pictured. Patrons beware.
Wow! So good!
We got take out from here and the food was great. Very cute inside, nice atmosphere. Will definitely come back, and would love to dine in the restaurant as well.
One of my favorite, their basil food is second to none. Most similar place put a huge fish and little seafood and call it seafood our some place go as fas putting 90% noodle and 10% 1 2 seagood ingredient and still call it seafood, this place offers true assortment of seafood
Polite staff and good customer services. Food is good 👍

It is OK I have had much better Thai food for similar prices.

We ordered samosas that were really sweet and soggy, not crispy. It was not worth the money, portion was too small.
The green curry was good.
We reached at the opening and the staff was too busy getting ready for the day so we had to wait for their attention many times. Not going again.
Excellent restaurant
I was very disappointed with the food given that has so many good reviews. We ordered the shrimp roll, chicken satay, seafood salad, pad thai and Bangkok duck, only the Bangkok duck was good, the noodles of pad thai was good but not having enough flavor, I would not recommend the appetizers and salad at all, I guess the sauce and dressing were not tasty. Service and atmosphere were good though. Unfortunately I will not go back to this restaurant for the food.
Ordered three items:
Chicken wings as appetizer: meat is dry
Beef as an entree: sauce and veggies are ok but beef is chewy
Duck as a noodle: duck is very chewy
Conclusion: all meats are overcooked
Good place to eat
Take your business elsewhere. Rude staff, doesn’t make a difference if you make a reservation or not. We had been regulars until we went this time, never again. Food quality has gone way down, noodles feel stale, curries are lukewarm, as if heated hours ago. You would see the staff being totally unreasonable about accommodations for kids. Heck, I would pay for people to avoid this place!
Terrible food. Over priced. Small portions. Disappointing. Soup, $15 for 8 oz.
Great for a simple date or night out. Light atmosphere and friendly staff. Music at just the right volume, which can be hard to find . Lots of vegan/vegetarian options including mock duck. Will be adding this into our weekend rotation.
The ambience is amazing. Food is good.

Sugar is not good for you, but the food, and even the name of the restaurant, suggest they add sugar to the food, so that it is more "Americanized". The sugar, the craze, the insanely this, insanely that, the absolutely this, the absolutely that. Not to mention that it is unhealthy, it probably isn't good to get bipolar.

The foord was absolutely terrible. I ordered the crab cakes, no crab whatsoever in it.tasted like dessert it was soo sweet. Pat thai , come on , it was a sorry excuse.also the rest of entrees we ordered were terrible. I spent $95 and it all went into the garbage bag. Avoid this place. What a rip-off.
Pretty good tasting food for the price. Will come back
Hands down the best restaurant in foster city.
Went here easter sunday and had an A1++ experience. The staff was welcoming and friendly. Food reminded my wife and I of our bangkok/ phuket trip in the more local areas
Best Thai in the bay!
Great food, and lovely staff.
Gigi, it was a pleasure to meet you and thank you for remembering me and my girlfriend.
We will see you next time!

Relaxed spot for good Thai food. The Thai tea and Pad Thai are great!
Food is ok, and the service is a bit cold
Please adjust your business hours on Google map. I arrived at 8:43pm, and their marketed closing time is 9:30pm. We were a party of two and there were plenty of empty tables. The host refused to sit us and informed us in a very rude manner that they are doing to-gos only.” Very disappointed.
This was my first visit to Sweet Basil Thai and the experience was nearly perfect. The service was prompt, our appetizers delicious. My wife and daughters entres were great. I got the yellow curry shrimp, a favorite of mine at Thai restaurants. The shrimp were poorly cleaned, veins and legs on many. It tasted fine. I'll certainly give them another chance. UPDATE: 3 subsequent visits, and everything ordered has been phenomenal!!! Bathrooms need some work, light wasn't working in the women's and men's needed deep cleaning.
Bland and over-priced.
I got the "sweet basil" with spice level 4 out of 5 and was disappointed when it wasn't spicy at all. What I got was a spice level of... 0.4. Aside from the lack of spice, it was also bland.
I ended up asking for their hot sauce to go with it. The hot sauce was good, but the dish should be able to carry itself without the hot sauce.
Egg rolls were nice so that bumps it up to a 2.
We had not visited this restaurant since before the pandemic. Their food was always very tasty, but we used to find even their least spicy dishes way too spicy and excessively garlicky for our pallets, to the point that occasionally, we found some of the dishes so excessively spicy and garlicky that we couldn't eat any of it.
To our delight, this is no longer the case. During our last 2 visits, we've found that their food is even tastier than before. Spicy dishes are clearly marked on the menu, and the rest of the dishes are well-balanced and not spicy, as expected. They either have a new chef or their chef has become more tempered in the use of spices. All-in-all excellent Thai food, nice service staff, and reasonable prices. Definitely recommend this place.
It’s worth coming out to this residential strip mall for the complex flavors and thoughtful presentation at Sweet Basil. The curries have a deepness from the spice mix. The standard Thai dishes have separate flavor profiles. The dining room is always beautifully decorated, but is usually loud and hot. 18% gratuity is automatically added for parties of 4 or more. Recommend the curries and papaya salad, and unremarkable dishes are the Pad Thai and fried duck.
This is one of the better Thai restaurants I have tried. Every time I eat their dishes, I am really impressed that the meats are always tender (all the other Thai restaurants I have tried make their meats dry). All the dishes are flavorful.
If there is anything to improve, it would be for the stir-fry noodle dishes. For example, where are the crushed peanuts in the Pad Thai? And the Pad See-Ew has too little noodles in there. When I order noodle dishes, I expect there would be more noodle, because it's the main ingredient.
Yum yum. Banging Thai
Great local Thai joint. Curries are on point. The masaman curry is one of my faves that I always get. Pad Thai is delicious and the crab or duck fried rice are always go to dishes for us. The roti is surprisingly good as well. Overall you probably won't find any bad dishes here. Service is good and it's a decent environment. It's worth going out of your way for this place if you're feeling like Thai food. You won't be disappointed.
Servers were very friendly and were able to accommodate our special requests. We go there many times! It's my mom's favorite place to dine!
Always great food, and as takeout my order is prepared quickly and ready at the given time
Food was good.. Crowded for lunch..!!
All the dishes we ordered were flavorful. We enjoyed the atmosphere as well as the food. My favorite was the fried fish with the pineapple fried rice.
Best Thai food we’ve tried in San Mateo and foster city
Slow service but the wait was worth it.
Horrible service. Refused to serve me because they were closed in 15 minutes.
Charming, authentic and many selections for this location
Taste and quality have gone seriously downhill. Ordered pad thai and spicy fried rice today, the worst I have ever had. Not ordering anymore from here
Good restaurant. Tasty veg foods are served.

Came for some late night Thai food and was thoroughly satisfied. I wanted the Pad Kee Mao but they ran out of flat noodles :( Anyways got Pad Thai instead and it was very tasty. Had all the right flavors and the only complaint that I have is that I wish it there was more! The duck noodle soup also had great flavors but there was way too many noodles and not enough broth. Duck was juicy and tender.
Food: 7/10
Service: 7/10
Vibes: 8/10
Value: 7/10
Very unsuspecting place but their food is excellent. Be careful of the spice level you get because even the medium was too much for me!
Pad See Ew was okay, but Pad Thai was just ketchup, ketchup and more ketchup.
Food was good, svc not so much , we celebrated my son's birthday there and waited a long time for his ice cream to come after paying the bill and waited longer to ask for 2 extra spoon .
Easy 5 stars. We had the Spicy Noodles and Yellow Curry. The portion was great. Flavor was delicious! We finished our meal but left feeling very satisfied.
Was excited to see the dine-in tables starting to fill up around 6:00pm or a Saturday night! They were doing a lot of take-out business but the restaurant itself is very cool inside.
It’s among my top fav thai places in the bay area. Have been visiting this place for quite sometime and the food quality and taste has been consistently great. Service is pretty amazing too. You can’t go wrong with Spicy noodles (Pad kee mao), Spicy fried rice, Crispy spring rolls and thai Iced tea.
Great ambiance, service and food. Loved the floral wall decor.
Had lamb dish. Presentation on plate was artistically fantastic.
The pumpkin curry is wonderful.
Food was excellent and the waitress was friendly and funny
Good Thai restaurant. Their menu prices went up a little. This place used to serve really good food. A little bit on the down side I guess.
Don't get the Bangkok Duck here. I got maybe 4 small bites of duck meat and fat, and the rest of it was soggy batter and onions. The portion size is awfully small for $17.50. It barely even filled half of a normal to-go container.
Great food and ambience , I visited this place like few years ago and it was great. I did visit this place yesterday again and the taste was not up to the mark. Spring rolls, soup was good but the wings did not taste great. Phuket fish was my favourite of all and the fried rice was little bit bland.
We came in on a Saturday night, it wasn't very busy but there was a large party in the back. We were sat right away and that was the fastest service we received all night. It took almost 15min to get a water and to be acknowledged to order. Another 20 for our appetizers (crispy spring rolls), and our food came out about another 10/15 min later. Our waitress didn't check on us once, and we saw other tables getting preferential treatment as she checked on them several times. Another couple walked in after us (about 30 min) and we saw that served right away. The food was delicious, but the service was beyond lacking.
Excellent set of food trucks at this location. Pav Bhaji hut food truck is awesome
Tastes like LYSOL - it was about 9:00pm their closing time is 9:30pm and the room was still nearly full of eating customers when someone sprayed Lysol disinfectant cleaner and not the one you use on desks either if you know what i mean. The room was immediately filled with this intense chemical smell. Each spoon of food tasted exactly like Lysol. My wife had to evac the floor as she's sensitive to the smell. Within 5 minutes nearly everyone got up to leave either to breath or felt disrespected. I sure did. If you are a decent restaurant I expect you not to bust out any disinfectant until all of your dining customers have left the floor. Sadly disappointed.
Terrible service, food was not great! Lots of better options in the area for delicious Thai food. The quality of the food went down after the pandemic. :(
Nice food 🍱
All of the food was an utter disappointment, even on a non-busy workday. The thai samosas were oily and didn't pack a punch. The crab fried rice, served luke-warm lacked flavor. The pompano fish was sweet instead of spicy and the green curry was watery. While the food was mediocre at best, our server was good and quick with a joke. The warm moody atmosphere with tropical flowering plants certainly holds up to the name.
This is my favorite place. Amazing food choices. Great taste. Exceptional service but when we got there, it took longer than usual for our food to be served. The other customers who came in after us got seated and served before us.
Nice Thai place with vegetarian options, delicious soup, and curry. Staff are kind and attentive.
The veggie duck was delicious and so were the spring rolls. Only issue was I asked for no ice for the Thai ice tea and it came with ice. And the coconut ice cream was too hard and old tasting for the dessert.
Otherwise, will come back!
Definitely one of the best Thai place I’ve been to. We ordered chicken satay which was juicy and well complimented with the peanut dip. Skip the samosa. Crab cakes were light and scrumptious. Red curry was great, I paired it with spicy chicken rice and the sweet and spicy was a great combination. That said portion sizes were a bit small.
I’ve never been here before. This Thai restaurant is in a shopping center so you don’t have to stress about parking. It doesn’t look much out side but when you walk in you see all the beautiful decor. Nice ambiance. It looks relaxing with the added cushioned pillows.
The staff: were friendly and the service was fast. Was kind of weird though we had asked to sit in this one area and they immediately said no! But they must have had a reason. But either way we had a good experience.
The food: we ordered as normal, you know fried rice, pad Thai, BBQ chicken, spring rolls, and crispy tofu. My personal favorite was the crab fried rice and crispy tofu. Tofu was perfectly cooked, there’s a crisp in every bite.
The price: not bad, about $13-$15 an entree and it’s very shareable. Check out the pictures oh I recommend ordering either a Thai Tea or Thai Coffee, very refreshing and nicely presented :).
Clean restaurant but the food was not up to expectations.
We ordered Pad Thai, chicken satay, and Tom Yum. The soup and chicken satay was okay. However, the Pad Thai was not to our liking. The noodles were over cooked and it was too sweet.
Used to be great, but they’ve stopped answering their phone (always rings busy or goes to a Verizon error) when they’re busy. This forces you to order online from their website, which suffered from the problem of taking forever. It’ll quote 30 minutes (which is longer than is ever quoted in the phone) and 45 minutes later you still have no food. They seem to only focus on DoorDash and the like for prioritizing their orders, which is a shame.
When you do eventually get the food it’s quite tasty. Lots of flavor and the quality is pretty darn consistent. Spice levels aren’t always the same, but that’s not the end of the world. Other than once or twice in the last ten years they always get the order right. And they used to be fast. Maybe they’ll get back to that some day.
This Thai place was great, great flavor and taste. My reason for 4 stars is the curry portion size was a tad small. I asked them to make the spicy noodles less spicy and it was pretty spicy for me ;). They forgot to add tofu in my green curry which I informed towards the end, the waitress was gracious enough to give a cup of tofu and the curry alone.
Would definitely come back if I am in the area.
Always tasty. And great presentation
We eat here regularly. Except for the Graw Prow everything is seriously delicious. Their eggplant is superb.
This is one of my favorite Thai places in Bay Area when you dine in. But when you order takeout or doordash the portions are significantly smaller than if you would dine in. I think it shouldn’t be like that and I would like restaurant to improve that. I hope they see my review. Especially for expensive dishes like seafood delight or like today, I ordered Foster City sea rice plate and it literally was only the rice plate, $17.54 + tax kinda pricy for the rice bowl, two shrimps and one clam, seriously ?
Excellent food, good prices, outstanding staff, and a very nice and comfortable restaurant.
Chicken Thai red curry here is very tasty. I only ever get takeout, so I can't speak to the restaurant itself, but the takeout is very good
It's recommended for traditional Thai cuisine. Try the volcano beef
The food tastes good and the price is reasonable.
But the service is really bad. The male waiter is so rude. And also look at the pic, the potato is already bad. To be honest, I understand the difficulties that the local small business have so I never rated a store such low a score but I’m just too angry about the male waiter’s service. I hope they will pay attention to their food quality and service.
Our favorite Thai food restaurant in the bay area. They have a cute place with great service. Everything in their menu is amazing. We order pad thai and one of the curries and have never been disappointed. Overall amazing experience every time you go there.
Yummy ! Delicious just like the food-cooked in Thailand.
Tasty PadThai - Great Thai milk tea - amazing food here
5 stars !!!! My favorites thai restaurant
Confirmed from me a Thai person
great food!
The food here used to be awesome but quality and taste seems to have detoriated with each of our recent visits. Sad to see current state of this once great restaurant.
We ordered fried rice, papaya salad, jungle curry, all vegetarian. Food was decent, service was quick. Ambience was good.
Some of the best curry I've ever had! Everyone at the table had something different and we all sampled. The pumpkin curry is outstanding
