I love Thai food and all the curries. All the Coconut Thai restaurants in Sacramento are excellent. I'm so excited that The Coconut opened a new restaurant in Elk Grove.
I tried them out a couple of weeks ago. The dining room is much smaller than the other Coconut restaurants in the Sacramento area. There is no room between tables. It was a little uncomfortable!
We ordered a red curry with shrimp, which comes with white or brown rice. I got the brown. Both the curry and rice were excellent. However, the boat noodles we ordered were as good as the curry! The soup is too light, and the beef is almost inedible! The overcooked beef was too tough to bite!
The service was a bit slow. But they’re soft opening at the time. I think they should be improving soon!
Ordered the Fresh Roll, Tom Kha-shrimp, Tom Yum-shrimp, and Pineapple Fried Rice - shrimp. All where great! Very fresh and flavorful! Shrimp had the tail removed so it was nice not to have to dig through our dinner with our hands. Service was excellent! There are 7 tables inside for dining and takeout is available.
Good service and good food. The papaya salad was not what I expected. I think their special dressing is made of lime and soy sauce, I'm used to lime and fish sauce. I must say they do cater to vegetarian, so this would be a great spot for those. We got everything else with chicken. My husband did enjoy the eggplant dish the most and my kids loved the thai fried rice, just enough flavor for them. Their thai tea is absolutely delicious! The portion size is massive, great value for sure. Also wanted to note that their medium spicy level isn't too spicy, it's hard for me to consume spicy food and I handled it pretty well.
Very disappointed with our experience at this restaurant. as others have said, it is a small restaurant so it feels a little crowded, but not terrible. The cheese wontons were bland, but the sauce helped a little bit. Both the chicken and shrimp pad thai lacked flavor and seasoning, service was abysmal, and they automatically added 18% gratuity for our family of four. We were excited to try this place after seeing the great Google reviews but we will not be wasting any more money here. The only dish that was edible was the shrimp Thai fried rice. It is such a shame that we had to ask so many times for our check and never got checked on or our waters refilled. We noticed other tables asked for their checks after we did and received them before, and other tables were waited on frequently while our table was completely ignored. It is unfortunate that the 18% tip was automatically included because the service we received really didn’t deserve a tip at all.
Was really excited to try this place and wanted some good Thai food and this was not it. Staff was nice but service was a little slow and food was not great at all. None of us enjoyed our food and was just disappointed all around. Noodles were dry and rice was just ok. Chicken didn’t have any flavor. Hoping to find a better Thai place out here in Elk Grove. Not sure how this place had such high reviews.

Lots of food but small location.

We were happy with Kim's help. Hoping you can start military discount as well, as we often go to many of your Coconut's places. Kim said she will ask. Please reach out.
Food was delicious but they put so much zucchini and carrots only small portions of chicken not enough chicken, and we pay full price for veggies not happy
We were really excited to try this place with all the gluten-free options. While the service was polite and prompt, we found the food dishes to be lacking in flavor. Then when it was time to pack up the leftover untouched salmon salad this small clear container was brought out that was near impossible to get the salad into, my husband had to scoop it leaf by leaf into the container, and while I did find it comical it was inconvient to say the least. Not a place we will visit again.
Dropped by this place because it was new and wanted to give the business a try. I am a huge Thao food fan, but the food I order was not all that. 1 order Papaya Lao style salad was plain. 3 order Chicken larb was plain. 1 order Beef steak larb was plain and too sweet. My total cost for 5 dish was a total of $79. With such a high price, the food should be superb. I was very disappointed and would not recommend this place to anyone. My first and last time going there.
Wow! Such a great little spot. Food was perfect in presentation and flavor and quality. Large portions. Very reasonable prices. Service was prompt and GREAT. I will absolutely go back here.
The Thai Fried rice is delicious, I would suggest it comes with shrimp and chicken. Also the Pad Thai looks good.
A quiet small hole in a wall Thai restaurant. I'm not sure how long The Coconut EG has been here, but it used to be a Korean place with really good kimbap and bulgogi bowl. We came here for lunch on Saturday, and the place was filled up pretty quickly, so plan ahead because of the limited tables.
Curry Puff was good and nice fried. There's nothing to rave about. The Chicken Pad Thai was very good and a staple dish. The waiter will ask you for the spicy level. The Mango Shrimp Salad was excellent. Fresh ingredients and generous portion. It's a perfect dish for the hot summer days in Sacramento or when you crave something refreshing.
Friendly and attentive staff. I like it that I didn't feel rushed like other smaller restaurant because they are trying to turn the table around quickly.
Awful. Discovered a cockroach inside and pointed it out to management who simply walked away. A disgrace.
Refused to refund to wrong food made. Server has bad attitude all around especially the cashier. She condicending by apologizing but refused to refund. Don’t spoil your night by going ther as you walk away with no food and no money back.
Excellent local takeout option. Let your taste buds go on a pleasant journey.
6/1- Took my mom here today. We enjoyed a delicious lunch. The food was fresh and delicious. The service was excellent. I am so excited to have The Coconut in Elk Grove ❤️!
First time at this resto and we are definitely coming back! Ordered the Shrimp Tom Yum (which was to die for), fried chicken, garlic pepper beef, thai fried rice and yellow curry tilapia - all delicious I swear! We didn’t wait long for our orders and we really enjoyed these thai food. Give them a try - you won’t be disappointed.

Came in around 1:30 for lunch for the first time. Husband and I had the Tom Yum soup, Red Curry, and Pad Thai. All with chicken. All were requested medium spicy. Prices were good. Medium was spicier than we expected which made drinking the soup difficult towards the end. The Red Curry was very good and would definitely order again. The Pad Thai was good but I felt like it had maybe a little too much citrus. Overall would come here again.
Great staff and food. Just a bit tight.
Curry puffs were delicious - Val
The Coconut Elk Grove is a small hole in a wall restaurant serving authentic Thai restaurant in Elk Grove. I would say limited seating but we got there early to secure our spots.
The staffs were polite, helpful and the food was superb. I chose the spicy shrimp with egg plants which was spicy as expected and tasty. The portions were generous and the price around $18 not including the tip. The Coconut Elk Grove is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a delicious Thai meal. Parking could be an issue because of many stores within the vicinity. Don’t let that stop you from trying out the new and hot Thai restaurant in town.
Food is ok but they should put less sugar in all their food. Everything is too sweet. Panfried noodle dish should have more noodles.
I was so happy to see that Coconut opened an Elk Grove location. We used to drive all the way to Sacramento to eat Thai food! My personal favorite dish is the Pad See Ew with beef.
Hoped to give them 5 stars and support small businesses but couldn't quite get there. We had Pra ram that came with one tiny thing of sauce. Which meant the entire dish basically had no sauce. They charge extra for suace. The veggies etc were cooked perfectly. The yeĺlow curry was fine, not too spicy. The chicken skewers were dry. They're close, so hope they just knock it up one level.

The food was so yummy.
Amazing food! Very small place but it's quite cozy if you're there before the line!
Had the pad see ew-- so delicious! 😍👌

Food was excellent, service was amazing! Dining area is a bit small, but it was very popular when we were there. Keep it up and they’ll have to expand! Highly recommend!
I am a picky eater and yet I loved this place. The service is great and the food is even better. Highly recommend
EXCELLENT food and safe for gluten free/celiacs! (If celiac MAKE SURE to let them know when you order)
Will definitely return - the “Basil” dish was the best!
The food is just as good as the Sacramento location, I'm so glad they're in Elk Grove now, seriously the best yellow curry and Tom Yum soup around!
