"Banana Leaf has undergone a change in management. While upholding our inviting ambiance and wooden décor, we have enhanced our recipes and expanded our menu options. Our updated menu now includes authentic Thai cuisine and noodles, as well as modern American breakfast and brunch dishes infused with Asian influences for the weekend."
A hidden gem. Quaint clean location. Outstanding breakfast on a Saturday morning. No wait. Fast service and amazing food. The roti rito was a work of art and the fresh salad and potatoes were an excellent addition to the twist on a breakfast burrito. The Thai tea French toast is something out of a magical and creative mind. Dessert for breakfast is part of the pleasure but the presentation and the taste are worth it. Rich French toast and a delicious syrup, fruit, and corn flakes make for a fabulous meal.
This Thai restaurant is an absolute gem! The moment we walked in, we were welcomed with warm smiles and a beautifully decorated space that blended traditional Thai elements with a modern touch. The service was outstanding—our server was kind, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was nothing short of spectacular! The Pumpkin curry was rich, creamy, and perfectly spiced, while the Pad Thai had a perfect balance of sweet, sour, and umami flavors. The ambiance was cozy yet elegant, making it a great spot for a relaxing dinner. I can’t wait to come back and try more dishes!
Banana Leaf is under new ownership. I was pleasantly surprised they now offer a breakfast menu. I was so impressed with my meal that I ate there three times in one week!
The food is not only delicious but also beautifully presented. The staff are friendly. Our server, Anuska, is kind and attentive. I'm looking forward to experiencing the dinner!
Delicious Thai Food at Banana Leaf!
The Pad Thai was packed with flavor—perfectly cooked noodles, tender beef, crispy tofu, and a great balance of sweet and savory. Fresh ingredients and friendly service made the experience even better. Highly recommended!
Visited here for a quick brunch. I ordered mini chicken & waffle and Atlantic (salmon) Benedict. Chicken & waffle arrives as a bite-size portion. It tastes good (though I didn’t expect the chicken to be popcorn chicken), but $12 for that small portion is kinda on the pricier side.
The salmon Benedict falls below expectations. The English muffin, served cold without any attempt to heat it, is difficult to cut or eat due to its hardness. The portion of salmon is inadequate. What looks like salmon in the photo is actually tomato slice :)
I will give 3/5 for the food but service is great.
I’ve lived here for so long and I am so upset at myself for not coming here sooner. The food was amazing, if I knew a better word for delicious I’d use it. The server was amazing and wonderful to talk to. The star of the show is obviously the Thai French toast. My mom doesn’t like sweet things but she loved this!
Absolutely love this spot, food is amazing. Had a horrible experience today hence the minus 1 star. The server today was very rude and so off-putting that we left before ordering. We will definitely be back hopefully next time it will be better
Drop everything and go there now! The food is so good and the service is excellent. Lunch specials offer a huge variety of food for just $20 including Thai ice tea or coffee. One favorite is the Pumpkin curry with choice of protein and sides (spring rolls)!
Breakfasts are amazing. My favorite is salmon Benedict. There is such a variety of food here in a very unique selection of cross- cultural delights.
Excellent food and excellent service!!!

Had breakfast there with my daughter. The pancakes were enormous but very doughy with a small dollop of whipped cream. On top was a tiny bit of fruit, corn flakes and parsley!!!. The dragon fruit from the picture was missing. The chicken apple sausage and the sunny-side-up eggs came separate in a small aluminum baking dish. The eggs were covered in a thick layer of raw egg white, the sausage was cut in half and burned at the on the bottom. Including coffee, tax and tip our bill was $78.14.
OVERLY PRICE food!! Lacks flavor!!!! And the servings is for a 5 year old! I paid $7.99+tax for soup served in what I thought was a tea cup! Ridiculous!

My favorite Thai restaurant. Great papaya salad, pad thai and pumpkin curry. Consistently very good. Pineapple rice is also yummy. Breakfast menu looks great. Fast and polite service.
The Thai Tea French Toast was an absolute treat! Everything I ordered was fresh and superb!

I gave it 4 stars because I use to come here alot 2023 but recently when I come food is burnt or dry won’t be returning it was good while it lasted
This place makes the perfect papaya salad. I love eating here, they have a lot of good food and really great service
The food was scrumptious Thai fried chicken rice, salad with Thai lemonade combo
Very tasty and great service. No problems finding vegetarian options. The combo option was plenty of food. I got a cocktail (February 15?) and had it made with sparkling water instead of sake, it was so good! I wish they had a mocktail menu as well, the non caffeine drinks are very standard and boring. please consider making fun drinks sans alcohol!
Na
Food was bland. No spices at all. When I asked for spice level at ordering they said everything will be medium. I specifically asked them to make it spicy, it was not at all medium. It was like no spices at all, below mild. To spice up I asked for hot sauce, I don’t know what they gave me, I added the entire thing but I didn’t feel taste at all. I ordered stirred eggplant with garlic, it really just came with bland veggie stock with chopped floating garlic and tasteless eggplants. I also ordered basil fried rice, I wish I would have ordered plain rice instead. There were barely two pieces of tofu in it, one medium one small. If you are looking to enjoy good tasty food please do not eat here. I came to celebrate my husband’s birthday dinner and they just ruined it. I never ate such bad food in the entire Bay Area. I’m a Thai food lover and this is does not deserve even 1 star.
Saturday early dinner after hike . We were actually on our way to a different restaurant when I spotted this! So glad we came here. Food was so delicious! We got chicken wings and spring rolls as appys. The sauce for the chicken wing was tangy and spicy.
Entrees: ROTI GAI TOD, paradise chicken, pad Thai, spicy basil story fry and red curry chicken. All were so good! Oh and the Thai iced tea is excellent
Excellent location, fusion Asian food.
The most creative Thai fused with the American breakfast extrvanaza cuisine! Try it!
We stumbled on this hidden gem! Me & 2 of my coworkers. The menu is massive. The service is fast & the food is great! I had pad Thai with shrimp, spring rolls, and fried chicken wings, everything was good but the chicken wings were ok. Their sticky rice is so delicious! They have American food as well. Plus, mimosas, I will be back to try.
Their curry sauce is weak and thin
Their spices are minimal
Their portions are minimal
Their service is meh
They dont like when you ask for specific things
They charged me for extra potato in my curry (an extra 3 or so dollars, mind you) and my curry had ONE piece of potato in it. Unneccesarily passive aggressive, and to charge me extra is a slap in the face on top of it. This is peak bad service and hospitality. I will never eat here again.
What an insult to the Thai people.
I had high hopes ! We ate duck which was slathered w a brown sauce that was like packaged sauce in England used to compensate for poor meals. It tasted of nothing and obliterated the duck. I guess breakfasts are better. I will never know.
appetizers are mediocre, fried rice and pad thai are soooooo gooooooood
The food was poor which was surprising given the reviews. I went for brunch and I ordered the SF Island scramble which was supposed to come with shrimp, lump crab and smoked salmon. It only came with shrimp, mushrooms and bell peppers. My partner got a Benedict which was lukewarm. The muffins were barely toasted, My son got the crispy Thai tea French toast which he considered too sweet. The plumlicious bacon was also luke warm, undercooked and had an odd taste. To top it off the coffee was watered down. Really a disappointment. The staff was friendly and people did seem to be enjoying their meals. We unfortunately did not.
Bien
Ordered food on Tuesday night for my children who were craving yellow curry and pineapple fried rice. I asked several times that the curry be mild, without spice, even mentioning that it was for my children. I tipped >10% cash - on a phone pickup order. My ten year old took one bite of the curry and started begging for milk. He simply couldn't eat it - nor could I. This felt vindictive. I called the restaurant and asked them to choose a way to make it right 1) remake it 2) make us a second pineapple fried rice instead 3) refund it. They said that they'd refund the entire order. 4 days later and they've not done so, adding insult to injury.

Buen servicio .la comida buenisima
Tienen que probarla
After a few years of not going there we decided to try it again. Food was good. Curry a little salty but good.
Nothing beats a delicious brunch with bottomless mimosas.
Oh, my, god...I still can't get over how good this place was!! This has got to be the best Thai Brunch I've had and there wasn't a single dish that we didn't like! Did I mention, they have bottomless mimosas for $22 and you can try different flavors with each new refill I highly recommend bookmarking this place for your next brunch!
* Curry Puff
* Thai Tea Pancakes
* Stuffed French Toast
* Spiced Maple Chicken & Waffle
* Mama Pad Kee Mao
* Kaeng Karee Gai Tod
* Plumlicious Bacon
* Bottomless Mimosas
* Bloody Mary
Run, don't walk, to get yourself some Thai iced tea French toast! It was a delightful revelation.
I've been going to this place for years. Unfortunately this last time the rice pasta was guhe and sticky, pork had no flavor. Hard to go back after that.
Time to lock for another Thai restaurant
I had Thai Stuffed French Toast and Honey Oat Lavendar Tea. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL presentation, ya'll! Fresh berries (in December, no less), crispy outside with creamy bananas inside. Well worth the tab. I love Thai cuisine because it boasts lots of tasty vegan and vegetarian options using super fresh ingredients, so it's nice to find one that serves breakfast, too. Courteous staff, easy to get to location with off-street parking. This place is a gem....
I ordered from here because a CSR at Home Depot was ordering his food and he told me about the fried chicken over rice, so I got home and ordered the following day.
Since then, I have been there 3 times in a week because their menu is so extensive and the food was tasty.
The atmosphere is serene, quiet and clean.
I especially enjoyed my dessert which I didn’t know that I was ordering from Uber Eats. I thought I was ordering a chai tea, but instead ordered a roti dessert which was ice cream, the roti which is a pastry and Thai sauce pour over into. It was a pleasant surprise and no wonder is was $12 lol
I have dined in and ordered through Uber Eats
These questions only give one answer. I’ve eaten breakfast and dinner and the $19.99 lunch special which was a great deal. Entree, Thai ice tea, salad, and appetizer
Local Thai spot for fresh, delicious entrees!
Stopped in for lunch and decided on the lunch combo’s. What a deal! You get an appetizer an entree and a drink for $19.99. The place was super cute and the service was great. I’d recommend the pumpkin curry with chicken, the cashew nut with chicken, and the spring rolls/chicken wing appetizers were really good as well.
The 1st time: Food was very good. However, something happened to one of our orders and it was about 35min late. Staff was great
2nd time: Everything was great and on time. Food came out pretty quick. looking forward to going back and trying the dinner menu
The restaurant I was referring to in my previous review was a Bay Area (Milpitas) restaurant. This restaurant owner reached out to me and clarified. I am giving 5 stars to this restaurant just for reaching out to me. This tells a story about how committed they are to serve their customers. I had an extremely frustrating experience at the restaurant last night. Despite being on the waiting list, the staff allowed others to bypass us, and the customer service rep was rude and inefficient. The new management seems to be lacking, as witnessed by their disorganized approach. We eventually left for a nearby restaurant, where we enjoyed excellent customer service and food. If you value a positive dining experience and best value for money I recommend trying Thai Cafe instead.
Good overall but over priced
Went to brunch with a group of family friends and had the spicy chicken and waffles. The presentation was amazing, but the flavor was even better. If that wasn't enough, the portion was huge. The only bad thing was I was to full to keep eating! I will happily come back in the next time I'm in town. The staff was nice and service was fast.
Service was amazing, food was AWESOME! - Cute space, good lighting, nice music.
I love this place!!
Small restaurant with really great food. The pineapple rice was excellent and the curry duck was amazing.
Love the breakfast rotirito and panang curry
Soooooo Good!!! My new go to spot!!!
The first time there, food is very good, and the service too, I will go again when I am in the area.
Top notch soups and curry. Delicious. Really enjoyed the ambiance.
Amazing food. Got it delivered and it tasted like we ate it in the restaurant.
This was my first time here so can’t speak to the quality before but found the food to be mediocre and incredibly overpriced. Curry seemed to use a blanket of spice to cover up a lack of flavor depth. Fried chicken was just OK, but with all the amazing fried chicken spots in the East bay certainly not worth $20. Fresh rolls were just wrapped lettuce.
Updated review:
Have to update my review and score from 5 to 3 stars. This used to be one of my favorite spots and loved getting food here. First time I ordered after the new management and I was very disappointed. Food was less flavorful, overall missing the spices and ingredients I normally would get, and the serving sizes were smaller. Sad to say I have lost a favorite place and won’t be going back.
Original Review (previous management)
The food here is always delicious. Everyone I have interacted with has been so nice. One of my favorite places to get Tom Kha!
Food was really tasty. We ordered the chicken larb salad, red curry shrimp and chicken basil and the mango sticky rice. Red curry is creamy and very flavorful. I would have given this place 5 stars but food just took forever to arrive. Service was great though. Really pleasant staff. We will be back.
Overall, it was a great experience. Small, cozy and charming space. Friendly staff. My Crab Cakes benedict could have used a little more love. We had to wait a little while before the Mimosas started flowing. The Thai French Toast is definitely worth trying. Would/will return.
Visited Banana Leaf after the Grand Opening of new management——
service was great, we set reservations & they we were sat on time. We continuously had servers checking on us through our visit making sure we were all set. As an appetizer, we ordered the mini chicken & waffle. Then ordered the Loco Moco and Chicken Satay Platter as our entrees. The appetizer was yummy, but our entrees were alright. Going to return to this place to give a second try to different entrees.
Everyone was really nice, but the food was just okay. Will try to give it another chance
No nuts and Raisins on my breakfast salad smoked salmon
Waffles were burnt! and cold. sent back came cold and dry. Drove from Hayward..... Not again...
Apparently they are under new management...and the food price is NOT worth it. $64 for 3 plates of noodles and two Thai Iced Teas. Not bad right? Except for I have HALF the amount of food I used to order. Not sure if this is the "lunch portion" but why are they charging more for less food? Not good.
Banana French toast is amazing. Can’t stoped thinking about it.
Had lunch and got the Tom Yum Soup with Beef @ 5 heat level....So good and tasty....Unfortunately they served it in a chipped bowl and I almost cut my hand. 😑
Usually only 2 servers you will have to wait but is worth the waiting green curry with duck the best.
Not sure if this is the same as all the other Banana Leaf chain restaurants I've seen in Asia, but this one is not that great.
The curry tastes like it came out of a can.
The pad thai is the generic American-Thai style with orange, too-sweet sauce.
There are much better Thai restaurants just North and South of here. The only positive is that the inside is pretty cozy/clean compared to the surrounding El Cerrito city.
I have been eating at another Thai restaurant for years. I tried Banana Leaf for the first time a few weeks ago. I ordered the basil chicken-fantastic. The same great service if you walk in or phone order. My new favorite Thai restaurant! Trying delivery today and taking a friend for dinner next week. I can only speak for one dish, I'd say give this restaurant a try. Parking is a limited, thus the reason for 4 stars.
Really good food thanks guys for the delicious meal every time. My wife agrees the taste is spot on. My go to for Thai in the area.
Fast takeout place, pad kee mao was good and a huge portion at reasonable price. Somewhat sketchy area but free parking lot.
5* Green curry w/steamed white rice
5* Thin-noodle pad Thai w/prawns
4* Papaya salad in piquant dressing
5* Cold Singha beer to complement
5* friendly courteous wait staff/service
Tom kha seafood soup is awesome. Small size was generous. Appetizers were wonderful. Looking forward to our next visit soon.
Service is hit or miss...but. that's totally fine cause they are short staffed & the food make up for that. Hahaha 😆. Everything, I have gotten to eat here has been real good.
Super clean, friendly service, delicious food, nice presentation.
Family owned.
We use to come here for years & was a fave. Called around super bowl to ask if they had fried tofu for me and they did so we came back to try it. We ordered fried tofu, green chicken curry & basil rice. Flavorful and nice portions. Attentive service & plenty of parking.
Food was good it was our first time here.
Had a pumpkin curry soup level 2 on spice and added pork. It was good but I didn't realize it had coconut milk. Which my spouse doesn't like so I had to eat it. Which was fine. Price is ok. Service was slow but they had only two servers and the place was pretty packed.
Great food good flavor. I'm recommending
Food was very good. Ambiance and service is very basic. Nothing says Thai. Great for take out.
Our favorite Thai restaurant in the area. Usually only do take out. All the usual dishes are excellent. Legit and real Thai food. Make sure to get the spicy papaya salad and the mango sticky rice dessert.
Good Tasting Food
Good Thai food with great prices
They fired someone for being black.
Portion size a little small for price but good spot if you’re craving thai food. Happy to have them
In my neighborhood
The restaurant is quiet and has a nice relaxing atmosphere. Most importantly, the food served is delicious. I like how the waiters ask what the level of spiciness you want your meal to be (from 1-5) and I appreciate the cute mason jars used for drinks. Along with Sa Wad Dee, it is one of my favorite local thai restaurants.
Love love love this restaurant. New to the area and this is an instant favorite. Have gotten food here many times now and it’s always super delicious. I like that they let you customize spiciness. Tom yom soup is a must, and so is the papaya salad. Everything I’ve tried are delicious.
Very nice people really good food my favorite pad tai restaurant. Definitely recommend trying this place.
Ate as take-out, and were surprised at the excellent quality of the food. Outstanding Pad Thai -- not overly greasy nor too sweet - the accompanying shrimp were fresh and perfectly cooked. Excellent Papaya Salad. Both green and red curries were also good. Menu is limited, prices reasonable. Highly recommended.
Good food
Love the food and service.
Love this place
I've eaten here several times when I'm working in the area. It's always really tasty, fresh, and friendly service. I eat a lot of Thai food and Banana Leaf is my favorite. The picky guys who work with me love it too!
Pretty typical Thai place. I got the sauteed cashew, and it tasted like it had been cooked in old oil.
Cozy spot for affordable, tasty Thai faves
I am very picky about my Pad Thai. Now this place is my go to place to get it. Perfect portion, perfect taste.
The food was great but the service was terrible
Delicious food and friendly service. They also seem to do a lot of carry-out business. The Pad Thai and egg rolls were perfectly cooked. They have 4 kinds of hot sauce. They also have several kinds of curry entrees. The server will ask you how spicy you want your food to be on a scale of 1-5. And they make a killer Mint Limeade fresh. The decor is nice and there is a parking lot.
Six stars if I could. Great pumpkin curry
I was good. I ordered the rosted duck and it was great. Only the broccoli was a little bitter.
The food is very flavorful and the service is great
The pumpkin curry was out of this world. Good service.
Just ordered Togo, really good food but the amount of food you get for the price really isn’t worth it. There’s plenty of other places at don’t nickel and dime you with the same quality.
Totally recommended.
4 Starts - The food took long even though there were not that many customer.
I love the Tom Yum Soup!
Tasty.
Very slow service and they close much earlier than they state... The food is mediocre.
You need to try this.
One of the best Thai food places I've ever been. Their pad Thai is great and the mango sticky rice was the best.
Quaint little place in El Cerrito, totally unexpected and pleasantly surprised. Probably the best Thai in area of El Cerrito, Albany and N. Berkeley.
The food was great. Only issue was 1 the lady threw the food on table..didn’t ask who’s food was what... then my moms food wasn’t hot and last one out. Then there were ppl playing music loud and singing and me and my family could barely speak with them so loud. The employees didn’t do anything and then when I asked them to, the employee said she would but then didn’t and totally disregarded that it made me leave the restaurant. I ended up telling the ppl that the music was to loud and then I left. Won’t return due to this And I’ll be calling back to speak with manager to discuss this to better their customer service.
Love the duck
Great food and environment
Great food. Authentic Thai flavor. A little slow on the service so if you are in a hurry during lunch time, this is not the place for you. But the staff is friendly. A little bit on spicy side for me - just a personal note.
Best food A +++++++
Not bad food but not good at all so below standard and the baby daycare in the back is so loud and irritating. Don’t go, go to Bangkok on Solano.
I was not impressed with the Pad Thai even though it was on chefs special menu. We waited along time to place our order even though it was not too busy at that time. Would not go back.
The weekly lunch special of tofu and vegetables basil Penang was too small. I was still hungry after eating the meal with very little tofu (about 3 pieces) and had to order fresh spring rolls with vegetables. Overall, the food was tasty but it wasn’t filling for me. And their was only one waitress during lunch so she had to work extra hard.
Soo good 😋😋😋👍
Banana Leaf was very good new kind of flavor for me but very tasty
Lovely tasting food and good service!
Cute cozy and good food. Relaxed service that is quality with out being too much in your face. My food has always come fast. Love their fresh rolls.
