Family-owned, art-lined venue for traditional Thai dishes like curries & noodle stir-fries.
Been going here for about 10 years and it was once my favorite Thai place. Last two times though was VERY disappointing.
On my 2nd to last visit, the noodles had no sauce. I took a bite to be sure, but it was awful. I hunted for the waitress and asked if they forgot the sauce (!!!) and she said it's always prepared like that....
Last time - and I do mean the LAST time I'll go there - again NO SAUCE at all on the noodles. Had to ask for sauce.
Sadly, not my favorite any longer.
Should have known when we walked into the ONLY empty restaurant on Auburns final cruise night (A FRIDAY AT 6PM) that this was a BAD CHOICE!!! THE ABSOLUTE WORST THAI FOOD IVE EVER EATEN!!! Both of us had very simple curry dishes that were just flavorless nasty choices!!! The service was just as bad with a unfriendly server. Although they have a soda fountain they dropped off a warm can of soda and cup of ice at the table. The dish was served with a pile of rice on a plate and a bowl too small to mix the ingredients. Absolutely NO SPICE in the yellow curry and just a milky watery nasty dish! The meat was rubbery and flavorless. The plate was too flat for the runny tasteless sauce and the entire dinner was just a epic fail. How in the world has this place stayed in business in such a expensive rent district??? Certainly not from serving decent food or providing good service. It was expensive and disgusting and will never return. There are 2 MUCH BETTER PLACES IN AUBURN. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS DUMP!!!
I didn't care for the inside of this place. Whatever, the food is what counts. My plate looked good. The vegetables looked fresh. It could have been good, but the sodium content was incredibly high. It was disturbing. I told the waitress about how salty it was. I asked if I could order it without so much salt and she said no. It was in the sauce. Really hoped this place would have worked out but I would have to recommend Auburn Thai. The best Thai in Auburn. Even if they close between 3-4. I would wait. I wouldn't eat here.
I’ve never left a bad review before but me and my friends came here for a quick dinner craving some simple thai and ended the night by making ourselves throw up because the food was so rancid. Restaurant was dirty, all of our orders were wrong and my friend who has been vegetarian her whole life requested no animal products and meat was put in her vegetable dish?? Waitress also was wearing AirPods while taking orders.
I love everything about Royal Thai restaurant. Comfortable patio dining. Very delicious food- real and authentic: one of the closests you will experience outside Thailand.👍😋 Excellent service. Massaman curry is the next best thing to what my grandfather cooked at home for me. 😍 Pad Sei Ew (stirred fried flat rice noodles with soy sauce, vegetables, and protein of your choice) is fantastic. Tofu Pad Kra Pao (stirred fried tofu with basil) is a must-order dish. Spicy salads are always great. Thai iced tea is the best. Low-key but genuine, peaceful and relaxing. It's a family-owned and run by the sweet Thai mother and daughter. I always order take-outs for my neighbors who love Thai food, too. 😃 Sufficient parking space along the main road and side streets. My fur babies are always welcomed here. They love to people-watch and dog-watch while waiting for me to eat my lunch. 🐶
I highly recommend Royal Thai in downtown Auburn for both dine-in and take-out. 🙏💕😊

Fantastic luncheon special. Reasonably priced and good serving. Extraordinary accommodating.

Pineapple Rice and Yellow Curry!
The taste of the food is delicious.
I tied their lunch menu. A great lunch special with the choice of protein/noodle/rice/ curry.
Best Thai food. Friendly people, great prices .
We love Royal Thai! Their food is by far my favorite Thai food, and their service is wonderful:)
If you are looking for authentic Thai food, this is the place! So good!
Best quality Thai food in Auburn. Avocado Curry is to die for.
Please do not waste your time by going here. Food has no authentic flavor. Service is super slow, and it's almost like that staff has no interest in working here.
The food here was not good. Very bland and sweet. We didn’t eat one of the dishes we ordered. Would have rather eaten frozen Thai food from Trader Joe’s. Service was lacking as well. Atmosphere is dark and dingy.
The food was healthy and fresh. Lots of veggies 🥗 cold and warm. They put some sugar in the food. I personally did not like it, but, hey, you might. .haha. Also, very reasonably priced. I got away feeling pretty full on $16.00. Tip included🙂
The restroom was pretty clean, decorated in Bamboo. A signature, clean restroom is very important to us ladies and children. Royal Thai is very conscientious about their restaurant. Both times that I have been there I thought they were having a very holy experience🤔
I can appreciate that, but, I still told them I couldn't appreciate the sugar in my food, and that next time, I might ask for soy sauce or no sugar in my basic dishes. Also I would have preferred warmer food, but that's just me.
There is very Pleasing art work everywhere, but it should have had a history paragraph and a price tag included for the money they seem too desperate for.haha might as well sell the amazing art work.
That might make it more light and breezy to go there💖
The best service. I walked in of the street for to go. they where so nice. The food was cheep and amazing. omg the best thai!!!!
Food was great. Way understaffed which resulted in slow service.
The first time I went here was years ago and the food was pretty mid. Today, I decided to come here only because Thai Garden was closed. I ordered what I usually get at Thai Garden; Tom kha gai, and pad Thai. It was dirt in comparison, almost inedible. The noodles were so dry with hardly any flavor. The Tom kha gai was overly sweet, hardly any coconut, and also really lacked flavor.
A nice Thai place with tasty, reasonably priced food. The service was friendly and quick.
It’s testing very good for pad Thai and Tom yum kung (hot soup shims) …
Red Curry was 80% bamboo shoots and chicken was boiled with no flavor. Husband got served the wrong dish, but they quickly corrected it.
Really good Thai food and we know Thai food. Avocado Green Curry was really good and not as spicy as 4 red chiles showing in the menu.
It wasn't amazing but it wasn't too terrible either. The atmosphere was cute but lacking. The service was slow when there were only two parties in the restaurant. The appetizers (calamari and roti) were pretty good. The seafood fried rice was mediocre. The seafood was unappealing but the rice was good. The yellow curry was amazing, as were the drunken noodles and pad see ew. I wouldn't be rushing to come back again but it's a decent spot to eat
Awesome place.
Got the yellow curry and potstickers, everything was DELICIOUS! Service was great especially since it was Valentines day!
Served spring rolls still frozen inside. After politely asking for cooked, they brought them back burnt. Still made us pay for them. (??!) Mediocre, bland entrees.
Do good to yourself and go to Auburn Thai Garden instead; they at least have a decent lunch special.
Unfortunately, we won’t be going back. We ordered one order of drunken noodles, egg rolls and tempura shrimp.we eat Thai food quite often and this was not very good. My wife and I split the one order and didn’t finish it. $43.00 seemed kinda high as well. That’s my two cents. Enjoy😜
Good in general. We had shrimp that was kinda undercooked. Asked for it to be cooked a bit more and came back about the same. :-). But otherwise good food.
Excellent flavors. Affordable prices.

This place is a diamond in Auburn. Delicious spring rolls and their sauces are undeniably delicious. The pineapple rice is the best rice I have ever had. The drunken noodles at spicy level five are ridiculously delicious and good. The service is pleasant and unobtrusive. Very clean and organized restaurant. Tasteful Thai music in the background. This is my Thai place.
Real Thai food. We lived in Thailand for 10+ years and my wife is Thai. Perfect!!!!
Delicious and fast. Open 11-9 every day except Mondays
Great food, clean, and hospitable.
-vegan optional
Food and service were good. We ate there but most people get takeout.
My favorite Thai restaurant in Auburn, the location is excellent, the staff are awesome, and the food is delicious. Also a nice outside patio area that's not in the street! It's always been there. My go-to is the green curry extra spicy! Highly recommend!
Pad Thai tasted like spaghetti o's. :(
It was reasonably priced, good service and it was extremely excellent tasty dishes. I will definitely go back and everyone should try them. It made me hum with delight! With each bite!
Love their Fresh Rolls, Papaya salad, Yellow Curry, Tom Kha soup. I could go on and on but instead, go eat there. You'll love it. They can adjust the heat level of their spicy dishes too. I like mine hot.
Ii just got food to go from here, Mae took my order, very polite , I got to my sisters and she’s very hard to please. She said it was absolutely amazing as she’s always had her opinion and most time not good. She ate everything on her plate and seconds on the soup. She’s up In her age and not well. Seeing her eat was a smiling site. Thanks so much. And for me I enjoyed mine and hers as well , the steak which I was surprised to see was delicious. Oh my. Doggie an eight month old hound says way to go as he shared some steak with me woof woof. Thanks again. Wow!
Fantastic green curry, loaded with Japanese style eggplant. Just wish they had a better website for take out ordering because the specials looks amazing! Drank a beer while waiting for my order to finish. Worst part was having to smell all the deliciousness while driving home!
Good, but not great. The portions are pretty small fir the price in my opinion. 1 side of white rice is literally 1 scoop of white rice. Not proportionate enough fir a single order of curry. The drunken noodles are normally a go to for me. They have good flavor, just nothing spectacular. Just okay over all.
Real Thai food, perfectly prepared and perfectly spiced. It was so delicious! I only wish they had a restaurant in Texas, we’d eat here a lot. Service with a smile and priced well. Great place to visit!
mango and pineapple red curry was amazing
Always great food and service
I just had the most delicious, peaceful meal here. I was the only one in the restaurant, just me for a late post-work dinner. Service was great, I didn’t feel weird being the only one here, and everything I ordered was top notch. Good portions, lots of fresh veggies, good flavor. Will definitely be back.
Great vegan food and great service! Nice that there is outdoor seating, too.
Yummy Thai food in downtown Auburn.
This is the worst Thai in Auburn
Flavors r bland. Service was horrible. And it was so hot inside we got r food to go. This was 2 years ago. But I have tried it several times and it never got better. Unfortunately for them there r other Awesome Thai here in Auburn.
Palm Ave Thai and Star Thai r better
Outstanding food.. fresh. And quality veggies too
We sat outside on the front patio. The furniture out front was designed for inside and the table was starting to swell a little. It was a Saturday and they had no sodas or bbq chicken. With restaurants in their current situation we forgive a lot. The service was good and the food was too. I got a hunch there was just one server and one cook working right now. So it was challenging to serve us all.
Excelent food!
Those didn't even deserve a single star. I don't want to leave bad ratings but this was inconceivably awful. The chicken was stringy as if cooked from frozen and no flavor. The pad Thai was like a bland soup and the stir fry was so sweet it turned stomach. Add to that the completely apathetic host and we literally returned the food to the counter and had to buy lunch somewhere else. I guess the door dash delivery there from Taco Bell while we waited for our food shows that They don't even eat their own food. Disgusting would be flattering.
I love eating at this restaurant...or should I say getting take out. The food is excellent and the service is great!!
Worst thai food ever. No flavor and noodles sitting in watery sauce. Save your money. Since the pandemic the food has gotten so much worse
Dropped in here the other day on a whim. Ordered up some food together. (Stupid Covid) and waited. Outdoor seating was clean and nice but small and uncomfortable.
When the food came it was packaged nicely so we took it home for dinner. Overall the food was good. Not great. I’d def go again and try something different. Nothing bad to say. I’m not an expert in this kind of food.
Ive had their soups before but I ordered the chicken wonton and the wonton is old and tough to chew. Pretty sure the wonton should be soft. The broth and chicken were ok.... but did not enjoy the food in the way I had hoped.
Very good
Aweful
Not that good. I would never eat here again. Food is bland, no flavor. The fried rice was flavorless and didn't even look like it was ever in a fry pan. The pad Thai was inedible.
Good food and Service. Great place to be with family
The food is edible, and that’s about it. Poor flavors and the service was extremely slow, despite there being only 2 or 3 other tables to serve. There are better Thai restaurants in Auburn.
Great Thai food. Had the mango curry. Delicious
Great lunch special and tasty food. I had the red curry and I was impressed. The decor is nothing to get excited about but the food and service made it a non-issue. 100% chance I'll be back.
Good food, good service!
Authentic thai food that inspired me to try some satay thai chicken cooking at home. Very good food and generallly more healthy for you
Very disappointed. I ordered the Thai fried rice which had absolutely no flavour, the beef tasted old and looked gray, and the vegetables tasted like they came straight out of a freeze bag. The rest of my group was equally disappointed.
Furthermore, the waitress who served us seemed to have an earphone in while serving.
Altogether very disappointed with the experience.
I like that they have vegan options. Always nice and friendly, great food.
Really good curry soup
If you like Thai food. Stop by Royal Thai
Food was good. Small portions.
Hard to begin a statement, that clearly puts into words, how wonderful this establishment is. Not only is the food delectable, but the atmosphere and the authenticity is beyond words. They truly are Thai people, not only in their cooking. With their integrity, their genuine nature and their humbled sense of purpose. Royal thai should be in a city that is capable of demanding its supply. It is a hidden treasure to Auburn. I classify this restaurant as my favorite, without a second guess. To those willing to try new things, get a true taste of Thailands delights, this is the place for you. Enjoy Royal thai, or leave it to the people like myself, but I hope you do give it a chance. I hope you give them multiple chances! You never know what you may find after a few taste tests. Thanks for reading this, I hope you enjoy your dinner.
Clean and good service. Delightful food with good flavor.
Arrived at approximately 7:30 on a Saturday and they were closed even though their hours on the door and internet said they closed at 9pm. Not happy after driving 45 minutes just to eat here.
I came here with my family to get away from the Roseville Thai scene. I have been to several Thai restaurants in Auburn but this was my 1st time at Royal Thai. This is not a large restaurant, but the staff is friendly and the views of Lincoln street are nice. Everything we ordered was the delightful
Good food!
Small mom pop setting, food good price good taste
Used to be really good til they closed
Fantastic!
Open to customization/Vegan option. Friendly.
Don't order the thai rice. Tasteless and gluey.
Not great Thai food. Spring rolls we're good. The rest not so much. Chicken was way overcooked. The veggies we're cold and undercooked.
Great service, great lunch menu, great food, cute outside seating. We will be back!
It was okay warm soda in a can warm water in bottle served with glass of ice...Food was tastey
Wow! On my first time here (I love Thai) I had one of the lunch special choices: w/yellow curry (3 pepper hot). You can choose your hot level. Brown rice is a must for texture and taste, small salad included and a fresh spring roll and iced tea $11. Yummy. Good, knowledgeable staff. If you have never tried Thai, risk it. The staff is helpful.
The thai tea..... whyyyyyy. I'd rather drink the canned thai tea. I wonder if the owner or servers has tried tasting this. Is it thai tea? Is thai tea still thai tea if nobody is around to make it from scratch? Brew the tea, add the special cane sugar, stir, mix with half n half. How hard... youuuuuuutube it.
Great food
Having lived in Thailand many years, this is the closest to authentic in the Auburn area. Food is great and lovely setting, especially outside.
Delicious!! And very friendly staff. We'll be back next time we pass through Auburn!
We love the food here. Casual, family-friendly. Always nice service. Highly recommend.
Good food great service!
It wasn't what I expected. The thai tea and potstickers were good though.
The food is wonderful!!
Great place to eat
Best Thai food in Auburn. Great customer service. Quaint location and perfect ambiance.
The food was delicious. Nice ambiance, great service. Loved it.!
Always very good, and healthy choices too!
Food is great. Service is a bit disjointed.
This was my forth visit in a long time and I must say our food was very disappointing. I ordered the steak grilled with Thai BBQ sauce and it was served cold and extremely tough. I told the server about it and she brought me another steak. Unfortunately again it was cold, tough, and tasteless. Interior and location is charming and the service good, but I will not be returning.
@ food,ls,great,well
Quick, delicious thai food! Very pleasantly surprised to find this in Auburn. Perfect if you're sick of normal pub fare.
3 stars because of circumstances but 4 stars on a regular day. I went here with my mom on a Saturday evening. There was only one chef and 2 waiters. They did warn us up front so at least they didn't just make us wait and complain for unknown reasons. The food was OK. I like that they provided a good quantity of food in the dishes and the Tom Yum was good. The dishes were saltier than I would have liked and the service was slow but they came through when they could. They have some cool takes on spring rolls with lots of vegetarian options. I feel like it is pricey for the area and quality but I liked friendliness and ambiance.
Great food as always!
Service was bad, food just ok
The yellow curry was great. Noodles were good. Peanut sauce was good. Spring rolls had a whole lot of iceberg lettuce. Friendly.
Thai Food at its creative finest. A little high end cost wise, but the "unique" menu and wonderful flavors were worth the above average cost, around $11 per entree.
The Thai Tea was delicious, a must to try.
Auburn is a quaint village with abundant artistic and holistic health businesses. Recommend coming during the week as many businesses unfortunately close on the weekend; though Royal Thai remains open. This is a sports community, so bring your bicycles, kayak, and/or fishing poles.
After your sporting activity, cleansed with fresh air, you will especially enjoy Royal Thai Restaurant and its abundant fragrances and flavors.

Excellent! Food, service and ambiance was exactly what we were looking for!
Quite authentic food
Love this place!
Extraordinarily slow service. We have been sitting here for 20 min in a nearly empty restaurant and no one has come to the table to even offer water. We had to track someone down to take our order.
This place had good presentation but lacked actual taste it was okay/eh at best. I'm really disappointed honestly it's quite expensive for 3 people it was 60 bucks at lunch time. The portion sizes were good and it's awesome for vegan and gluten free but it doesn't have any flavor. I eat Thai on a regular basis and I've never been disappointed. :c
Excellent food
We found Royal Thai on a Sunday night drive home from Tahoe. The green curry and pad eggplant dishes were great. We finished the eggplant and brought the curry home. This place, comfortable, good prices and delicious food.
Such great Thai! Great friendly service. Even better food! Holy crap good Thai food!
Great food and atmosphere.
Servers were friendly, food came out in a timely manor. Just a little advice though if a restaurant has a vegan menu they should know what vegan is. We were very clear with our order and I stated before placing my order that everything we were ordering was going to be vegan. They brought our food and said "are you guys okay with eggs if not we'll have to remake it" . I would understand this mistake if they didn't have a vegan menu. Vegan means no eggs and if there was any confusion about what we wanted I would expect it to be cleared up before bringing the food out not after.
I love their Tom Yum soup with shrimp. Very flavorful and Delicious. Especially wonderful when you're not feeling well, purks ya right up. :)
Great food
The red and yellow curry we had here were great great. The portions were large and the presentation was great. If you find yourself hungry in downtown Auburn give this place a try.
