Char’s Thai restaurant, authentic Thai food located on 5th & Rosemont, Tucson, AZ
I swear by this place! It is THE go-to Thai restaurant. No one does authentic like here. The best tasting Thai dishes and service is great. I always look forward to the changes I get to stop here. More than several visits already and not one visit is a disappointment. I bet every dish is just as flavorful as the last. Have yet to try the other items on the menu.
This Thai restaurant is a great spot to go and eat. The service is great and the atmosphere is welcoming. It’s a family owned restaurant and they treat you like you are part of the family. They also had vegetarian options available as well. They have a spice range to choose from as well. The restaurant is located inside of a plaza but there was adequate parking. Their spring rolls was the best I have ever had, very light and refreshing and the sauce that comes with it, is also delicious!!! Stop in and try this restaurant!
the best Thai food that we have eaten outside of Thailand. Everything was so good, amazingly good, from the spring rolls, to the pad Thai, to the Tom Kai and the Yum neau (Nam thouk). Sadly, we don't live here and I'm going to have to spend the rest of my life wishing I could have another plate of the Yum neau. It's a beef dish, I've never heard of it before, I don't know how to pronounce it, and it was incredibly delicious. I wanted to drink the sauce off the serving plate. I don't like spicy food, and they let you choose how spicy you want it so that was perfect.
We have been failing to find a good Thai restaurant in Tucson for several years. We ate at Char's Thai this evening and had a great meal. The food was delicious and just what we have been looking for. The service was very good and the people were friendly. We will be going back.
I was so disappointed after reading the other reviews. My yellow curry was extremely spicy, and no other flavor to speak of. I love spicy food but it needs to come with flavor to make the pain worth while. I had a bowl and through the rest out. One of my favorite things about Thai is eating the left overs the next day, this was not worth me keeping. My boyfriend enjoyed his pad thai, and the spring rolls were okay.
I've tried a lot of Thai food and Char's Thai is one of the best Thai places in Tucson. I've had comparable Thai food up in Seattle but not here. If you haven't tried Char's Thai yet, you're missing out. Friendly, attentive staff and incredible food.

So delicious!
Great food. We really enjoyed our meal. Curry to noodles and spring rolls. All were delicious. Plenty of seating.
This is a modestThai Restaurant but the high food quality and exceptional service is wonderful!
This place was amazing. Staff was truly helpful.
Delicious food

Oldie but still a goodie.
portion for one of our dinners was a meager half portion. No coconut milk iced tea
This is one of my favorite places for thai food in Tucson. I cannot say enough about the panang curry ! - but I asked for an alternative since i had ordered it so many times - they suggested the yellow curry and it was awesome ! I order take out so I cannot comment on the ambience or the service.

The food here is just fantastic!
Very attentive and great service.
The ladies can cook. Always top notch flavors and service.
The food was pretty good. Personally I prefer Karuna’s.
Best Panang curry I've ever had. Great traditional ambiance with nice relaxing music. Hidden gem that's been here since 1986 with the original recipes handed down over that time.
They were out of many things we tried to order. We liked, but not loved, what we got. The place needs a refresh. Our bench was lumpy and a lot lower than the other side. Our friends liked their dishes better.
Outstanding Thai food and great service.
Food is always good, staff are friendly and kind, usually no problem to get an open table.
Great food! It is easy to make thai food a bit too sweet, but this place was spot on. Slightly pricy
Good Thai good
It has the best pho soup
I visited here to celebrate Mother’s day. The lady on the front was so kind and nice, food was amazing, they have real Thai food. Usually we couldn’t get Thai spicy on other restaurant, but this place is authentic thai food.
We enjoyed here, I will comeback for sure. This place is already one of my favorite place in Tucson
Wife and I have been going to Chars for over a decade and had 100% wonderful experiences. Loved their Kang Karie 😊
Website needs closing times updated.

This is one of the Thai food restaurants pioneer in Tucson.
I would say it's a hidden jewel, because if the location.
Very friendly hosts make you feel welcome; nice and clean restaurant. Most important is delicious food!!!
It was one of the first places I discovered when I moved to Tucson, and the food never disappoints
The red curry is absolutely incredible. If you like tilapia, get the Pla Chu Chi: it’s amazing!
A very pleasurable atmosphere with amazing food and outstanding customer etiquette! The waitress was funny, thorough and a million laughs! The rest of the staff was equal in every aspect. We are so impressed with the experience we had; we will be back!
This was soo soothing and lovely. The food is really rich in taste! Id be back for sure.
Delicious food, everything we get here or have gotten has been very, very.
Good I would give them more than five stars.
Love the food
Excellent service, great food, good prices. If you're not familiar with the spiciness/heat levels I'd recommend erring on the side of caution...
Hands down, my favorite Thai restaurant in Tucson! I've tried them all, and there are a lot to choose from. The food is delicious, the staff is incredibly kind, and I love the casual dining experience.
The young waitress was very sweet and kind and enjoyed her company
I've been eating here for at least 10 years. They have such fresh amazing food. I've tried many different dishes and loved them all. My go to comfort is definitely the pineapple fried rice and spring rolls. They also have super delicious Thai iced tea. The staff is always so sweet Snr personable. I am for sure a life long customer 🫶✨️
They lied about the food being vegan. We’ve gone here for years and always double check that the curries can be made vegan and that they don’t have any shrimp, oyster, fish or dairy in the sauce. This week I ordered the green curry like I always do and asked these regular questions. The waitress responded that the curries all have shrimp sauce in them and it can’t be removed (except for the yellow curry), she then confirmed this with the kitchen. I was shocked that this was the case all along because they have always assured me there was not. We are very disappointed in this restaurant and that they told us over and over that the dish was vegan when it wasn’t. We have taken our vegan friends here and given Char Thai a lot of money while they were lying to us about their food. This could be very dangerous if someone in our group had a shrimp allergy. I hope they make sure in the future that their staff knows what exactly is in their food, or is at least willing to check before misleading people. They lost many loyal customers today, we will not be returning.
Food is delicious
The food was spot on! I asked for a 4 outta 5 and I got it...some music would have created a better atmosphere
Authentic Thai food with great tom yum soup and amazing drunken noodles.
A modest restaurant in a strip mall with the best Thai food in Tucson. The service was a little on the slow side but we'll worth the wait!
Delicious! 10/10 highly recommend definitely one of my favorite places to eat with my wife!
BEWARE! Their food is DOUBLE THE PRICE listed on their menu. 3 dishes and an appetizer was $65. Definitely not worth it.
Literally the smallest portion of food I've received anywhere in the United States for the exorbitant price they charged. It was a slap in the face. I thought the waitress was very nice and service was good. The food was a complete joke. I wonder the exposure people that are rating this food highly have actually had. After reading the reviews and then experiencing this place for myself I was dumbfounded. Bewildered and forced to pay by my moral code but wishing I could've walked out after the food was delivered.
Ate here today for a late lunch March 2,2023. Food was delicious. Large menu selections. Prices reasonable. Service was wonderful, friendly, welcoming attentive. Restaurant motif very attractive.
I love this place. The spicy Tom Kha Gai soup is amazing! Love the Pad Thai and Curries as well. Amazingly friendly staff and great family. One of the best!
My first visit to Char's and will definitely return. Good food, gracious service, fair prices. Check it out.
Food was great and so was the service the atmosphere was kind of dumpy though
Wonderful nostalgic meal! After not having Char for many many years, I grabbed some takeout with a friend and it was just as delicious as it was so long ago! Will revisit other menu items again soon! 🤤 I had the veg pad Thai and my friend had the pad Thai with chicken. Both were devoured!
I can’t say enough good things about Chars. I have been coming here for over 20 years, the service is outstanding, the owner is so kind. Of course the food is fantastic, their vegetarian options are delicious and so comforting. Whether it’s soup, curry or noodles you can’t go wrong with this Tucson staple!
Friendly, fast service and incredibly delicious. :) I will be back.
Very small portions for take out. Chicken is better than beef (as usual for Thai I feel).
We get take out here at least once or twice a month. The food is usually really good and they are great with substitutions. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is that it can be a little hit or miss. Sometimes the food is better than others.
Fresh and fast! Delicious!
It was not easy to book a table. Food was okay and staff was friendly. Surprised with a 20 percent mandatory tips. Credit card can be used with a 3 percent extra charge. Not worth the food for the price paid. Not going back again.
Love this place
Hours were wrong online and I arrived after closing... the staff were so sweet anyway and still served me. Great vegetarian food too!
Literally the best Thai food ever!! Not just in Tucson, but coast to coast. The menu is not very big, but you'll find all the classics like Pad Zee Ew and Pad Thai (my favorites). Both can be made VEGAN!! The restaurant is clean and charming; parking is a breeze. And everyone who works there is super friendly and helpful.
Best pad Thai I have ever had! Delicious soups! I highly recommend!
So good!! Muy delicioso!!
Quick service, delicious food!
Absolutely the best Thai restaurant in Tucson. I will only be going here for Thai food in the future. Wonderful service, fantastic food, good prices. You will not regret eating here.
Took my family here to try somewhere new. We will be back. Loved the flavor and spice of each dish we tried and the Thai Iced Tea was exactly what I needed. Very friendly!!
I have been craving real, delicious Thai food for a loooooong time. My friend suggested I try Char's. I had the L9 Padang Ka reel with medium spice. They did not skimp on anything. Lots of wonderful fresh basil. So delicious! And the service was lovely. Including tax my lunch was only $11 and that included a cup of fresh homemade soup, a spring roll, white rice and my chicken and vegetable curry in a red sauce. Don't go to a fast food place where the food is monochrome beige. Go to Char's full of fresh produce and eat healthy flavorful food!
Delicious pork pad thai and thai iced coffee!
This place is great, food ausome, the work very hard, you can call ahead and order ahead, chicken fried rice is the best!!
Food is amazing! Fast service too
Very frustrating you don’t update your hours online, we drove out of our way to eat here only to realize you’re not open.
Tasty dishes. Kind staff. I would go back if I was in the area again.
Absolutely delicious! I couldn't stop talking about this food for days.
I ordered take-out, and was treated so kindly by the staff. The Pad Thai was the best I've had, their fresh rolls were delicious, and the broth with our soup was deeply flavorful.
The only sad thing is that they have more restricted open hours, so I can't get lunch on the weekends, but it sure is worth the wait when I can get in for a meal.
We just discovered the place, and it is bombastic. We frequently eat it.
Get it spicy.
Great food, fast service.
Always tasty food and great service. Nice to know this is a local family business too. A real Tucson gem.
My favorite Thai food in my area. I like the coconut soup and the noodles! The waiters are very nice!
Edit: not sure why I had 3 stars but it's supposed to have 5 🤭
The best Pad Thai in town! Our Waitress New was amazing and respectful.
I would give Char's 6 stars if I could. I moved here back in 2019 and have been looking ever since then for a great Thai restaurant and have tried many leading up to this one. The food is exceptional, well priced, and the portions are perfect for the price. It does not stop there either, the ladies that work there are extremely nice and also care not just about your order but how you are doing as well; that part caught me by surprise. This restaurant will be my go to for Thai food for now on, they sold me on an exceptional product.
Great, family-run, neighborhood Thai restaurant. Particularly loved the Drunken Noodles, but we didn't have a dish we didn't like. Friendly and attentive staff.
Great little Thai restaurant in a strip mall. Excellent service and great food.
Both times we eat there, it always takes us back to our trip to Thailand and Myanmar 2020. Would challenge any Thai restaurant in Tucson to top Char's
Good food the owner is a fantastic lady
Really nice food in a family type place. Their curry was very tasty with fresh spices. That was the second time i was there and both times i enjoyed the food.
Favorite Thai in town. Papaya salad and vegetable fried rice are personal favorites
Food is good, the prices are fair and they aim to please!
Last time I ordered take out from them the food was ok even though it was ready in an almost impossibly short amount of time (less than 10 minutes) but the staff was extremely rude both on the phone and in person making me feel uncomfortable. They also had different closing times posted (online, two different ones on the front door and one stated over the phone) that spanned over an hour of time, I.e. closing anywhere from 730p to 9pm. Even though I usually enjoy the food it’s not worth being treated the way I was treated.
Great food and great service
Awesome, just Awesome. Consistently the bast in town. Get the Thai curry.
Authentic Thai food at this Tucson classic! Covid obviously hurt them, but the food and service was as good as it ever was. It's time to make Char's crowded again!
We had a craving for Thai food and enjoyed a dine in meal. We started with Tom Kha Gai which was delicious. We also had Pad Thai (fine but not as good as the version at my favorite restaurant in Pasadena, CA) and Panang curry which was also delicious. The waitress was great. There was only one other couple there while we were eating so definitely not crowded.
i love this place. i wish i could go more often
The pad see ew, pork fried rice and yellow curry are great!
Absolutely the best Thai food in Tucson! Homemade and delicious, always consistent. Very friendly staff. Papaya Salad is very well done. Love the Drunken Noodles here, too!!!
First time here. Ordered take out and it was all super flavorful! Ordered the Tom Kha Gai, Thai curry, and Drunken Noodles. So delicious! Service was quick and friendly as well. We will be back.
Love staff.love food
good food
Small family run restaurant with very good Thai food. Looks like they are mainly doing take out business at the moment. They did seat us when we asked if we could dine in.
Pad thai !!!!
Great taste. Very friendly staff. Som Tum was perfectly fresh.
Thanks so much it was good
Good food and good customer service. We ordered three different entrees and told them we will be there in 20 minutes. By the time we arrived, the food was still piping hot and smell delicious. Not only were they fast with their order, when we went back for a missing item, they immediately compensated us and got our order right the second time around. Also they definitely follow health guidelines and even provided hand sanitizer for use. Friendly people and tasty foods, so I would recommend and visit again!
I've been wanting to try this place, mostly because it's tucked away near my house. Also, I love thai food. Since they don't do dine in right now, I called in an order for takeout. I ordered a variety of my favorites, some thai standards, and a new item I had never tried. I was very happy with all of the items I got. Staff was super friendly and very safe. My food was ready on time. This will likely become my weekly Thai place. I would highly recommend this food for a night in.
Delicious, authentic, locally owned. Definitely going to be coming here regularly, the food was so flavorful. Its hard to find authentic Thai food in Tucson, I find a lot of places to be bland and serve very caucasian-friendly dishes.
Char's has many items on the menu I'd never heard of before. I had the duck curry, Tom Kha and it all was so good.
Hands down, best Thai food in Tucson.
Food quality varies. I have been here on a handful of occasions and their quality really does vary.
A small place that is only doing takeout at the moment. The food was good, just not fantastic.
Excellent food, good prices. Very fast service for take out. Highly recommend.
Char’s thai is my childhood restraunt because of their amazing food. Everytime I went the staff were really nice. The air smelled of food cooking while I waited for my coconut soup, It’s the best I ever had and I will come back anytime as long as my parents are willing to come and pay.
Used to love going here, but it's extremely disappointing when you pay $12 for sweet and sour chicken and get an ounce of actual chicken sprinkled throughout a mountain of vegetables and bland sauce. Sadly I will not be going back.
Hung up immediately when asked about soup of the day. Gave the excuse of COVID19 (the baby's way out) wouldn't tell me about the prescence or abscence of my allergens (attempted murder) will never go there.
One of the best Thai food places in the city always go here for the special fried rice that they make specialty Thai soup and Curry that my husband loves. Closest your going to get than going to Thailand itself. We get our food to go usually and when I get home that food is piping hot I don't know how they keep it so hot and fresh but that food is literally like it just came off the grill when I'm at home eating it.
The food I had was unremarkably neither good nor bad. I had the pad see ew and fresh spring rolls.
The Tom Yum was fantastic!
Excellent food. My kids loved the spring rolls.
Tucson's most authentic Thai food. Friendly service. Yes the murals have Thai warriors in Monument Valley and Saguaros next to a Thai
Temple
Great food
Excellent food
Great service. Ordered the panang and they spiced it perfectly according to individual preference.
Prompt and courteous
Duck was pretty good.
Eaten there for 35 years
This is one of the best Asian restaurants in town! They have such fresh food that it always well prepared and presented well. They have an array of dishes from Thailand and other parts of Asia. The staff are very friendly and very willing to help you find anything if you are unsure about what type of food you would like. The restaurant is clean and well lit but also has a cozy atmosphere if you would like to dine in. They are also quite quick in their preparations if you would like to take anything to go as well. I would highly recommend giving this place a try if you are looking for something new, it was one of our favorite places in Tucson!
Very good food! Don't worry if you think it may be too spicy. They have fare with no heat, and the dishes with chili can be ordered in mild, medium, or melt your face. Try the Thai tea!
Just like back home in Canada!!!
Char's is a local favorite that has delicious food, good prices and fast service. The smell of home cooked food hits you as soon as you walk in and it is hard to decide what to order because there are so many great choices. Don't be shy about asking for a special preparation. They are very accommodating. The dishes with the chili pepper next to them on the menu are hot and delicious. The mild dishes are full of fresh food flavor. Check the hours before you go, and check the specials when you arrive. Tonight's coconut ice cream was superb. Come as you are... I've seen flip flops to pearls. The table decor is entertaining. Plenty of parking up front, especially for dinner.
Great place for a business lunch. Not too noisy, great food and service.
Delicious Thai
Good food good service. The sauces are a little sweet. The prices are a little high
The food was delicious, the atmosphere was tranquil, and the service was stellar! Loved my trip here to this hidden gem! The food was a nice portion, not too much, just enough to fill you up and not have leftovers. The place is neat and tidy, kinda small but I liked it. And finally l, the service. It was awesome service.
A hidden gem. Great food, large serving and friendly staff.
Still one of the best places to eat anywhere in Tucson!! 20 years later, it has the same great food it had when I went on a date with my now wife of 20 plus years. Best Thai food in Tucson simply put!! Thank you for the great service and excellent food!
Delicious! I haven't had Thai food in a decade. I used to come here in high school. Its just the same as I remember it. My pad thai craving has been cured! It was perfect! Definitely going to have to make thai food a habit again!
Outstanding as always. I have been coming here for years for their authentic Thai food.
Great service and terrific Thai
This restaurant is really unique and AMAZING! The food is so delicious I would never get bored of it, there are so many options, and the service was EXCELLENT!
BEST THAI RESTAURANT EVER!!!
