We tried the Pad Thai, the Pot Stickers and the hot and sour soup (Tom Yum). Everything was delicious! I've found my new favorite Thai restaurant in Alabama. Now the hunt continues as Surin West disappointed us last time with rice all over the bottoms of our appetizer plates they brought to our table not to mention we waited about 15 minutes and never saw a waiter or waitress 🤷🏻‍♀️ second time that happened and this Masaman Thai restaurant didn't disappoint!
The service is order and seat yourself. Don't expect fancy atmosphere but definitely get your Thai here to go if you're busy.

Great new find. I had been craving Thai food for quite some time and wanted to try a new place. The restaurant is quite small; I was not expecting the right seating arrangement. Due to the close proximity of others, I wish they had music playing because the restaurant is very quiet so you can be all up in others conversations. You go to the counter and order and pay for your food. Get your own drink so no one is really waiting on you. I kind of liked that though.

The food was excellent! Perfectly spicy and flavorful. We ordered the crab angels, the shrimp soup, pineapple fried rice with a shrimp, and the chili Thai basil leaf with beef. If you have a cold this will clear you right up. I already want

I've gone twice in two months. First time I went I tried the masaman chicken (lunch) and the Potstickers. Masaman chicken was good and flavorful, the pot stickers with panang sauce left a lot to be desired. I've had much better pot stickers. Overall good experience.

Second time I went was today. I had the Pad Thai (Lunch) asked if I could make it spicy. They give you the option of doing 1 - 4 peppers, representing spice level. I asked for 1 pepper just to gauge. I also ordered the Egg Rolls.

First, these egg rolls were amazing. So full of flavor and fresh. I don't remember when I have ever had egg rolls this good. Most egg rolls taste bland and have some kind of bland meat like pork added in. These egg rolls added no meat, I'm a huge meat lover so I was nervous, but these are the best egg rolls in Alabama. Hands down. If they had shrimp egg rolls, I'd get them at least twice a week. Amazingly delicious.

Lastly, the Pad Thai lunch, when I first bit into the chicken the rush of flavor I got was amazing. If I had a complaint, it's that I wish they gave me more meat, specifically shrimp and chicken, but I was left full and wanting more. Spice level one was nice, not really spicy, just a nice little punch. I'll be trying level 2 next time.

The panang tofu is delicious. Very flavorful and hearty. The entree makes 2 portions for me.

I had been going to the same Thai place for 7 years when I moved here. I didn’t think I would find another place I loved but Masaman is SO good! I go anytime I can and they’re always nice, it’s always clean, and the food is always good! 10/10 recommend!

There's not much to say about the restuarant atmosphere- it's compact inside, pleasant with basic tables/chairs but not a fancy dine in experience. Less of a dine in spot, more of a pickup or online delivery go-to for takeaway for you to go home and stream Paramount + and chow down.

Best Thai I’ve had in Birmingham. The pangang curry is 11/10. Chefs kiss.. As well as the Pad Siew oh my gosh so good.

Never had an off day that I’ve seen. Owner operated keeps it consistently delivered quality. Also always clean. It’s mostly take out concept, so keep that in mind. There are tables but it’s plastic ware. Tastes the same and keeps it lower cost. I just take it home. Try it once. You will be a regular. lol. I moved on the other side of town. about 2 miles from Surin in mt brook. Still rather go to vestavia to eat here. Enjoy!!

Great hole in the wall place. U want fine dining it is not. Small only 7 tables and most are 2 tops. But food is killer and portions are generous for the money. Delicious coconut soup served with lunch as well

Best Thai in the area, if you ask my girlfriend and I. Massaman (namesake) Curry is the jam. It’s thicc and they don’t skimp on it. Crab Angels are an amazing app that comes in excellent Panang Curry. Not exactly a romantic date atmosphere, just a simple walk-up diner style place, but EXCELLENT Thai.

First visit to Birmingham. Stumbled across this place for lunch. Very tasty and fresh food. The spicy noodles had the right level of heat. Will come again when in the area.

I love this place for not only the food, but the attention that the staff paid to my online order. I am a vegetarian and inadvertently ordered the Basil Rolls, which had shrimp. They caught that so actually called me to ask did I really want shrimp or would I prefer tofu. Wow!! That was so nice and really meant a lot to me. This will be our go-to Thai restaurant. We have had the Green curry, Pad Prik Pod, Chili Thai Basil Leaf, Pad Kee Mao, TOFU Larb and everything has been outstanding! Highly recommend this restaurant.

I have eaten Thai food in over 50 cities and in North Thailand. Honestly, this place was just OK. If you need a gluten free option DO NOT eat here. They don't offer one and seem indifferent to your needs. Their curry bases are all pre-made and they are not about to adjust anything for someone with an allergy.

Masaman used to be one of our go-to places pre-pandemic, but we hadn't visited since late 2019. Went back tonight, and it was even better than I remembered. The Thai eggrolls are crunchy and delicious; the spicy chicken coconut soup flavorful and rich. The panang curry was fantastic, and their pad thai first-rate. A simply fabulous meal for a great price. My ONLY "critique" would be that their spice level is definitely geared toward American palates - even the "spicy" level is pretty mild; but ALL their dishes are SO incredibly flavorful, only high heat-seekers might be disappointed. I am SO happy you folks managed to survive the trials and challenges of pandemic - THANK YOU Masaman, for making SUCH great food!!!

One of the best (if not the best) restaurants in bham. I always get the masaman curry with chicken and it is sooooo good. There are 3 levels of heat, 1 is decent spicy, 2 is pretty hot, and 3 is very hot. It’s basically my comfort food at this point, I would always be down to eat here. You have to try it!

They are always my favorite place for Thai food. Two of my favorite are Chicken Larb and Spicy Beef Salad with side of sticky rice. They are tasty. I always add extra spicy to my order. These are more close to authenticity of Thai food than other places around Birmingham.

I've had That food all over the world, including Thailand. I usually order Massaman Curry. This is seriously some of the best Curry I've ever had.

I ordered pad see ew for takeout. I all the home and realized there was hair in my food. Dish was also extremely dry. I was told to come several miles back to the store in order to receive refund.

Superb authentic representation. Rare find in BHMAL. Warm, inviting, quaint atmosphere. Equal amount of care goes into each dish as is extended in their customer care. Deserves more stars.

This place is awesome. I’ve only ever had their lunch specials to go but have started dining in since they opened back up. Food is consistently great and the lunch portions are filling, plus that coconut soup is tooooo good!

Nothing spectacular but for the price the food is very good.

The food didn't match the raving reviews. At all. The lunch portion was disappointingly small, the quality was mediocre. Plus I had to skip the soup as there wasn't an option without chicken broth.

That said, cute place, hospitable staff. Will give it another try, dinner this time, before I strike it off my list altogether.

I grab lunch here at least once a week. In my opinion it’s the best Thai around! Try the chili eggplant for a fun new dish-it’s one of my faves.

I'm so glad my friend, Cilo, brought me here because I love this place. Because my friend brought me here, I was able to bring my roommate and she really liked the food as well. The service was welcoming and we were greeted with a polite smile. I enjoyed the sauce that they put with the Pad Thai and the Spring rolls were amazing as well. My roommate got curry and loved it. Everything was made quickly, but it was still fresh when we went back to the dorm.

My wife and I have made this our official go-to restaurant. The food is absolutely superb, and the Pnang Curry or however you spell it is amazing and my wife loves the masaman curry.

Ordered through door dash. Everything was packed perfectly and nothing spilled. There were 3 entrees and a soup. The tofu soup was very satisfying. The masaman curry, green curry and the cashew tofu were also very delicious.

Well i just love thai food and when it comes to local places i usually prefer them however when i walked into the establishment for the first time it looked very grim inside and was comparable to the look of an mental asylum i was shocked to find only one other group of people in the whole place and that the food tasted sub par so i in all honestly would never come back here unless i was paid to do so

We ordered spring roll, chicken Coconut soup, Pad Kee Mow(stir fried wide rice noodles with chicken) and Pad Prik Pod (beef with vegetables). Everything were delicious except spring rolls. (It wasn't impressive at all). Our server was very kind and friendly.

I recently tried Masaman for the second time. I don't care for sweet dishes and I had struck out a few weeks back with yellow curry. This time I tried Chicken Thai Larb. I was disappointed they no longer make Beef Larb but I think pork would taste the best. The dish wasn't too spicy but it was a little bit sour. I felt like the meat could use a little savory flavor. I also got Tom Yum soup. It was very good and flavorful!

Very friendly service. Tom yum and green were mediocre at best. The chicken in the curry was tender and tasty but the green curry its self did not impress.

The Fresh Thai Basil Rolls are incredible! They are definitely the best spring rolls in town.

I've been here many times. It's easy In and easy out and you don't have to fight the downtown or 280 traffic. They have better prices than other places. Today I placed an order for the office, it was several of us and we all had our form of payment, normally a nightmare. I get there and the order is not only ready, but each bag had the name and the total. The staff made it very easy.

Good food but only good for takeout. You can dine in but not great ambiance.

I really like this place! After weeks of hearing everybody talk about it, I finally got to check it out. One of my fav Thai dishes to order is Masaman chicken... and what better place to try Masaman chicken than a place called Masaman!?!?!

The meal didn't disappoint at all and was a healthy (large) portion, especially for a lunch menu price. The order came with a good amount of steamed rice as well as even a nice sized cup of coconut soup! It was packaged VERY well to accommodate the to-go fashion in which I ordered it. Everything was delish! Not sure if it's my fav Masaman dish but if it's not, it's number 2 for sure! The soup wasn't my fav, but that doesn't mean it was bad.

The restaurant itself was smaller than what I envisioned but again... not a bad thing at all here. It's not a place that you'd dress up to attend, more of a casual deli feel (as compared to somewhere like Surin or Taste of Thailand). Staff was very courteous and prompt, especially for an order cooked AFTER I ordered it.

I will definitely be returning to Masaman for lunch!
