Long-standing, no-frills destination for Thai curries, noodles & stir-fry in a strip-mall location.
Wow! I drove from Bellevue to eat here because I heard the food is phenomenal and I’m a big Thai food lover. They opened about five months ago I hear. The restaurant is very clean and had an excellent king county health rating on the front door. I highly recommend! The chef told me no MSG and only use vegetable oil so very high quality and healthy foods. Highly recommend and will be coming back! Thank you!
I wanted to add my review for three reasons. 1) We love this place - we are here at least twice a month 2) The new owners are celebrating 1 year in business-any review older than 1 year ago (July 2022) is not valid and 3) I felt that previous review by Kris Mani is misleading. First of all, I do not consider the portion sizes as small. I feel they are normal for dishes that run $11.95-$12.95 each-$1 extra for pork. The only way his order was $30-$50 per person is if he had dinner alone. The pic he posted was only a small serving of his 3 full dishes he ordered. I attached pictures of the true size of their dishes. Cashew Chicken and Crispy Chicken. Both come with choice of white or brown rice. Also attached a picture of the Kids Fried rice which is 1/2 the size of the $11.95 Thai Fried Rice Try this place sometime. You won’t be disappointed.
“I visited Roy Thai restaurant at the lunch today, and the food was absolutely delicious! Every dish (ginger chicken and cashew chicken), was full of authentic flavors, and the presentation was spot on. The restaurant itself was very clean and well-maintained, creating a pleasant dining atmosphere. I’ll definitely be coming back and highly recommend it to anyone craving great Thai cuisine in Federal Way.
Best place for Thai in the neighborhood and very friendly staff. If people don’t like it go somewhere else but for me and my friends and family, this is the place to go!
Possibly the worst thai food, definitely the worst dining experience, I have had since moving to Washington.
We arrived with over an hour before they closed, yet we were asked "how fast can you eat".
We took our order to go due to the social pressure, and ended up with the most bland thai food ever created. Thankfully they sent an extra packet of crushed red pepper jic.
Regardless of your experience, tip well because the front desk has to make his bus and could care less about your dining experience.

Amazing food and quick service.
This is my favorite Thai place in federal way. Food is consistently fresh and tasty.
A Taste of Thailand, Right Here!
If you're craving an authentic Thai dining experience, look no further. Roy Thai Cuisine is a hidden gem located in Federal Way that will transport your taste buds straight to the heart of Thailand.
From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with warm smiles and impeccable service. The staff is not only knowledgeable but also incredibly friendly, making you feel right at home.
The Pad Thai dish I had was sweet, sour, and savory, perfectly balanced and delicious. The curry my wife had was rich and creamy, and the vegetables were fresh. Also highly recommend the mengo with sticky rice for dessert ~ Wow! 🤩
If you're looking for a memorable dining experience with truely authentic Thai food, Roy Thai Cuisine is the place to go.
Highly Recomend A+++
Just finishing up my lunch here on a Saturday. I've just had the best red curry ever, and l've been eating Thai food for decades. I like all Thai food so much I just asked the waitress, TK, what she would recommend, and I went with it. It was a good choice. :)
The service couldn't possibly have been better. She was very attentive, very helpful, and a sincerely joyful person that enjoys her job.
Even the music was very enjoyable, slightly jazz like, rolling, soft piano and a nice rhythm.
I couldn't have asked for a better lunch.
Will definitely return over and over and over.
The food is always incredible, The fresh ingredients and traditional cooking methods truly satisfied my cravings and transported me to the heart of Thai culture. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making it a perfect spot to enjoy a delicious meal. Highly recommend for anyone looking to indulge in genuine Thai cuisine!
First time here, their food was amazing, everything we ordered was delicious! What could have been better was their service . Looking forward to coming back!
Place is clean, foods are delicious!
This place is so Delicious 🤤 I order the tum yum noodles and I was not disappointed at all. Dessert was the mango sticky rice🥰
Extraordinarily flavorful, rich, high-quality. Highly recommend.
Came here after a round of golf (shot a 65). didnt have anyone else dineing in at the time but the place had a great atmosphere and calm music. they have a solid menu with some intriguing chef specials and a great thai tea. I would highly recommend checking this place out if you're in the area.
The menu is diverse and inviting, lots of unique dishes to appeal to differing palates. Our server was very helpful and communicative, and our apps and meals were very satisfying. Good prices for 2024👍
love mango sticky rice!!
Great food, excellent service, lovely restaurant, the curry is amazing.
Very great curry would recommend
Delicious food, great service, clean and nice atmosphere for date night. Will come again
Food is delicious people are great too
Ordered chicken satay, steamed veggies and steamed brown rice last night. Got horrible food poisoning and won’t be returning :(
Great food. Legit my go to place in Federal Way/North Tacoma for Thai food when I'm craving it. I highly recommend this place!
food is sooo good and well presented the only thing was that me and a group of 3 people arrived 40 minutes before closing and we were rushed to order and finish our food (understandably)
I can let that slide for the amazing food! and the mango sticky rice is probably the best I’ve ever had! will definitely come back earlier than before lol.
My favorite Thai restaurant here. Great prices for what you get
The lady at the front is very rude. I usually tip 15 to 20 percent when I’m eating at an establishment but I was just picking up food, she asked me to sign the receipt then proceeded to watch me like a hawk while I wrote the tip amount: uncomfortable but I gave a dollar— again I tip more if I eat somewhere not if I’m just picking up. Upon seeing my tip amount she then aggressively points to the bottom of the receipt where the suggested tip amount portion of the receipt is where it says 15, 20 percent, she wanted me to tip 5-7 dollars to pick up food. Then she conveniently left out utensils so when I went to my car to check there was none and when I came back to ask for some she smirked at me and said oh you need spoon and fork? I usually don’t write reviews but that was too much. She also gave everyone else that picked up their food utensils and speared to be talking about me to her coworkers.
You all are crazy if you think this overcooked mushy mess is good. Worst pad Thai I've ever had in my life. Service was subpar as well.
Restaurant got bought by these folks it's good but the portions are way too small for the price
The crab wontons were the best I’ve ever had! Phad Thai was great . Customer service was excellent. Highly recommend !
Current: I love the food. phad thai, basil fried rice is good. My go to. Staff is very friendly, and all made to order quickly.
Orig: I've been coming to the previous Northshore TC regularly for many many years and know the two previous owners very well - I still stay in touch with them. So I was very familiar with the flavor profile, quality, and quantity of the menu items. I was bummed it was being sold in June 2022. I finally tried Roy TC and got the chicken Phad Thai 4 star to-go. The phad thai was a little bland (need more sauce), the bean sprouts and crushed peanuts was UNDER the noodles, which seemed odd. No green onion or carrot topping either. The quantity and the to-go box was smaller. Though the price looks to be the same as before. Overall, just OK. I'll try a rice dish and see how that goes.
My boyfriend and I love this place! Easily the best Thai food in Federal Way. The panang and green curries and the green papaya salad are my favorites. Staff is always so friendly and kind too.
Loved this place! Family owned! Atmosphere was quite nice for a little joint! Tables were clear and set, floor was clean. Service was wonderful! The lady at the counter was nice, inviting and appreciative of our business. Wait wasn’t too long. Roughly 10 mins for 4 orders. Food was delicious! Everyone enjoyed their meal! We had the potstickers, popcorn chicken, pad sew ewe, and the black pepper beef. Loved it! We recommend this restaurant and we will definitely be back!
We used to go all the time but they changed owners so we hadn't been in awhile. When we dined-in at lunch it was delicious and the service was so nice. When we called in we got rude service. When we called in we didn't even know if we'd called the right spot because the person on the phone just answered "hello" and then acted annoyed that we're confused about whether or not we'd called the right place. Then we were mocked for attempting to pronounce the names of the food. When I asked how many the popcorn chicken appetizer could serve, his response was "I don't know it's not chicken nuggets." I get that but I think it's absolutely a legitimate to question if an appetizer is shareable or not. The guy on the phone just seemed annoyed to be taking our order. I ended up cancelling. We went to another place. Prices today are too expensive to be mistreated even a little.
Just awful customer service. Did not get acknowledged upon arrival and got dismissed without even having to ask about my mobile order. Food is too expensive for what/how it is.
Tasty Thai food. Nice treat once in a while.
You can tell the owners care deeply about their service here. We thought it was so sweet the staff knew some customers that entered by name and made conversation with all of them. The atmosphere felt very cozy and the food was delicious! Will definitely be back.
Used to be great but now the portions are small and prices are higher. Food is good but don't really feel like paying more for less.
this is how it all started, paper menu I ask ? looks at u like your idiot for even asking, with response, online ! I may be the last hold out, not everyone has phone at ALL TIMES ! Plus eaten before, NO BIG LOSS ! next door is the bomb !!
I wanted to add my review for three reasons. 1) We love this place - we are here at least twice a month 2) The new owners are celebrating 1 year in business-any review older than 1 year ago (July 2022) is not valid and 3) I felt that previous review by Kris Mani is misleading. Yum! Wow. Pineapple Curry is my new fav! Fresh, flavorful, abundant, and beautiful.
Pineapple fried rice is great every time, super consistent. I haven't bothered to try any other mains because it is so good.
Entered the restaurant, and felt really inaccessible by constantly speaking at my face while I gave the signs that I am deaf. And the guy, who was working at the front. And he gave me a really nasty attitude. Would never recommend this to my deaf community.
Excellent!
I absolutely LOVE this little gem. Best you’re ever going to get at the price point and in the area!! The panang curry is absolutely heavenly and the popcorn chicken is a surprisingly tasty treat. All the noodle dishes are superb and the chef’s fried rice is scrumptious! Everything is fabulous! I usually DoorDash this place but have recently started doing take out too.
Grateful for excellent service
MY GOODNESS THIS PLACE IS DELICIOUS!!! if you want REAL Thai food, this is the best in Federal Way. I got the tom yum noodles, it was the perfect spice (I ordered 3 stars), but the broth really hits the spot. Service was spot on, very friendly and the food came out QUICK! The restaurant also has such a nice atmosphere and bathrooms were very clean. I'm very picky about my Thai food, and I was not disappointed.
Delicious! 😋 Tasted light and actually nutritious. You can tell it was made from scratch and he was light on sugar, even desserts. We had pineapple chicken fried rice, chicken tum kha (has coconut milk), and chicken tum yum soup (kind of like chicken soup asian style), pot stickers that were steamed then lightly pan seared, and sweet potato noodles with sea food (my mom's dish). My mom also enjoyed her mango sweet pudding.
We both drank Thai tea and it was nice but again not overly sweet so you feel less guilty. Altogether a solid 5 and will definitely come again! Decent prices and quite clean. Plenty of parking 🅿️ and safe area.
***Chicken satay is grilled chicken with tumeric and it tastes good and has like no salt so you combine it with the sauce. Traditional Thai Peanut 🥜 sauce is always included but I don't like that sauce. I like the sweet cucumber 🥒 vinaigrette from another Thai region but it was cooked well here. Just if you can't eat it without that cucumber sauce like me don't order chicken Satay.
Tried this place for the first time after the last thai was there being subpar…man, this food was good! We had cashew chicken and crispy chicken that were both very delicious and packed with really great flavor. The service was great too for dining in. I also ordered the salad rolls to go and they were pretty good for being all veggie, but the sauce that came with it was pretty magical. Would highly recommend and already have to friends and family in the neighborhood!
Recently remodeled, and under new management -- this is now the best thai food in the area (and we are lucky to have a few pretty good options). Also, the service seems impeccable.. While front waiter was on phone taking a large complex order -- the cook came out and took my order verbally, to begin working on it. How nice was that! The chicken curry was fantastic, and the overall experience brightened my whole day. I'll be a regular customer soon..
My family and I love this restaurant. Their team is incredibly friendly and the food is delicious.
Great service and friendly staff, I call ahead for take out and it's always ready in about 10-15 mins. I love that the food is spicy when you order a 4 or 5 star. Love the popcorn chicken and it's our go to Thai restaurant in the area. Prices are fair compared to others.
It’s good enough, these people talking about how it’s the best they’ve had must have been very hungry
One of the best Thai restaurants I’ve eaten at around western Washington. As good as Bangkok too! Excellent food and nice staff. All the dishes I’ve ordered have good Thai fresh flavors. Roy and family do a great job every time!
With the new ownership I was hoping the food would be better. It was; barely. The other Thai in the area (basil Thai, Thai in fife, and Thai bistro) are all still better. The Tom kha soup was so watered down that I could taste the chlorine in the water; I pulled the veggies out and threw the broth in the garbage. The pad Thai was overly tangy, although it actually had bean sprouts like it was supposed to. The thinness of the soup makes me hesitant to try the curry as it may be just as thin and watery. Too bad as this place is closest to my house but I probably won’t be back. Also it was expensive at 26$ for a soup, tea, and one pad Thai.
Very awesome food👍
Best thai dish in this area
So sad to see Northshore Thai owners gone. They were so friendly, had amazing flavors and portion sizes never looked skimpy. I sympathize with Roys endevours to take on new ownership. I imagine it very stressful and risky. However, I was very displeased with my 2 dishes. Mango sticky rice had half the rice and a half filled small tiny cup of sauce. Cant imagine rice or sauce breaking the bank. Portion sizes suck. Thai tea was good. Cant recall the Pad Thai which must have been okay. Fresh spring rolls were unimpressive and strangely 1/2 wrapped. My impression is they are trying to be more like a fancier establishment. I will give them another try before finding better.
*** update🙂 spicy basil fried rice is superb! Good portion size. Stay tuned for green curry review.
Take out was packaged nicely and super quick. However it didn't have a punch of flavor in their food. Also, mini corns in pad see ew seems very odd.
Great food, friendly staff and nice spot. Much better than the place that used to be here. Happy to have great Thai food nearby.
We have been going to this restaurant for years before they were bought by new owners. The new food is good. Veggies are fresh but the prices are on average $5 more a plate and the servings are 1/2 the size as they were, at best.
They took over where Northshore Thai cuisine was on NE Tacoma. We ordered pad Thai, pad see ewe, beef ginger, beef eggplant lover, & Panang curry. We got all level 3 spice but it was pretty spicy. Their portions was on the smaller side for the price. The beef was a little tough & chewy. All 5 dishes were $75.
Overall, pretty decent place.
They have really good food and did great remodeling the location, and the owner seems really nice. I'll definitely be coming back!
Gets the job done, food is decent (it can be hit or miss) but the owner is very friendly.
The best of the best. My husband always get our usual dish and it’s 10/10 each time. Customer service is excellent and quality is superb. I recommend showering Rama!
The Pad Thai was hot, fresh, and delicious
First time here today. I had chicken fried rice and chicken red curry. All very tasty. Service was good too. Portion that I got was a lot and prices are good.
If I could give no stars, I would! I called to place my order and while I was telling her what I wanted, I realized she was speaking to another customer about their order. She was taking my order and another customers order at the same time. What the hell? Then after 5 mins, she asked me, ok go ahead an order again???? I then repeated my order and she was quick to rush me off without taking my number or name. She just said “oh ok, ready in 15 mins, goodbye” & hung up. Very unprofessional & incredibly rude. Don’t ever order from here!
Update: the mango sticky rice I ordered was disgusting. There was lack of coconut flavor. It was sugar and water. The mango was unriped too. Do not order from here !
This is a great local place for take out orders. Prompt service, they are always accurate about how long it will take. I love their North Shore Fried Rice which includes meat and seafood. Curries are fantastic, I have had the yellow and Panang. Also very good is the noodles, pad thai, as well as pad see ew.
Portions are big, worth the price. Great for leftovers!
Very friendly service, great recommendations and amazing food. Will be back soon
Called in my order for 2 phad thai plates and fried rice. Was told it would be 20 minutes. Showed up 20 minutes later and waited for 35 minutes. No customers in the front and it took this long to cook my order. I'm done with this place.
On a cold, gray Monday afternoon an order of Chicken Tom Kha soup hit the spot! Aromatic, yummy, loaded with chicken and mushrooms - - it was everything I was hoping for and more. Thanks very much for a lunch that warmed me up and made me smile! Comfort food at its best!!
The Thai food here is the best in the area. Totally worth the wait!
Terrible wait time, bad customer service. Buddy at the front desk will just act like your food is out ever five minutes, but in actuality it’s 50 minutes later and cold
Awesome Thai food, fast, great price and service! Very close to home also.
Awesome place, portions are unbelievably generous and the service was stellar, thank for the good food.
quality of food is amazing & so is the service!
This is my favorite Thai restaurant in the Federal Way area. Great ambiance pre-pandemic, the food is still good when I get it to go now.
Been going here for many years. Great service, fantastic food. If you like spicy food or not have no fear, they let you order your spice level, very considerate! It's a 1-5 spice range and if you cannot even handle a speck of spice they will try to give you a 0 which when i tried it, tasted like candy. It is soooo sweet. (I usually get 3 or 4 on spice) pro tip: if u can't handle spice dont get anything with lemon grass. It's naturally spicy so even if u order 0 spice, if there's lemongrass there will be a kick. (At least that's what I was told.)
No answer and closed for business.
This place is amazing, great portion sizes for the price and the staff is genuine and friendly. I'll be going baxk to try more of their menu, the pad Thai was delicious.
I love the pineapple fried rice!
Excellent. Service and Food
Fantastic. So fresh, delicious, beautiful, and so much food for the money. I really need to get through the rest of the menu but my regulars call to me...
Great experience, great prices, great portions
This is my go-to spot for PAD THAI! They’re the absolute best in flavor and spice ! 😋🔥
This is by far one of the best Thai restaurants in Washington. First, the owners are absolutely so incredibly kind. The food is made with passion, and extremely tasty spices. I love that I can trust that whatever I order from the menu will taste amazing! I would highly recommend this place for anyone who is looking to eat super amazing tasty Thai food!
Food is fantastic, but don't bother calling in an order ahead of time, they won't start making it till you show up. Called it in, was told 35 minutes, arrived at the time it should have been ready and waited an additional 45 minutes.
This is my favorite Thai restaurant in federal Way.
Best Fried rice in town.
Oh my God!! These wonderful people serve the best curry I've ever had in my life! I can not get enough of their authentic dishes that are packed with sooo much flavor. The portions are very generous and the prices are incredible! The family that runs this restaurant are very kind and work hard for their business. Every time my family and I don't want to cook dinner, we come here :) It's more than just home cooked food, it's Heaven :3
Great curries and fried rice
Favorites are the yellow curry, panang curry
Curry fried rice and pineapple fried rice.
Family owned family friendly business.
Also great portion sizes, one box can feed two with left overs and the prices are very reasonable
A must try if you’re ever around the area and even if you aren’t door dash can deliver 👍🏻
Delicious thai and a kind staff!
Good food and friendly service
Went in for takeout on my way southbound, ordered Chicken Pad Thai four stars $10.95 w/ tax.
Spicy was in the Goldilocks Zone, food ready in a time which pleasantly surprised me.
Portion size excellent!
Coming here next time I'm in town.
Best beef and chicken Pad Thai I’ve ever had! It’s authentic and a great deal for the portions, I highly recommend!
Love! Sweet people. Never disappointed 💕
Ordered pad thai super spicy, and its not even spicy. My daughter hates spicy food and she ate half. Also ordered garlic wings and hot wings. Received 2 orders of wings no sauce on them, plain wings. Will not be returning again.
I’m moving out of Federal Way, but this was our favorite Thai place and our go to for inexpensive, delicious meals. We’ll miss living so close to it!
Wow. That food was divine! Complex flavor and incredibly well seasoned. I mean seriously just yum! We had the Northshore Noodle and the Tom Yum soup and both were delicious. Will be more than happy to return! The staff were great too!
Whoa! Food was incredible! Ask for the tom yum soup! And northshore noodles. Great staff! Fun atmosphere. Best Thai food in the area.
Great food and service
I love the food, we eat there and bring spring rolls for events it great!
Fast, very friendly, extremely tasty Pad Thai, ideal for take outs, really starting to love this place and we return often.
Great food, large portions, and my picky child loved it! Great customer service too!
Fried ice-cream!!!
Friendly and yummy food
Still my favorite Thai restaurant.
Great food! Home cooked feel
I love the food here but since I believe the ownership changed, the customer service is horrible. I called in my order was told 20mins, got there in 15mins. Then waited an additional 20mins before asking where my order was, which was the 2nd time. It was ready, sitting on the table. Mind you while I was waiting 3pick up orders came & left & the ppl who came in to dine had their food. My wontons were cold by the time I got home 7mins after leaving.
Good Thai food! Usually order through Door Dash and recently went in for a sit down meal. Food was excellent and service was great. The gentlemen behind the counter was friendly and helpful. He seems to be trying very hard to have a good experience there. He had plenty of pick up orders and even went outside to look for a guy that was waiting in his vehicle. Overall great experience.
Ordered simple Red curry. Curry sauce was water thin and flavorless.. Chicken tastes like cardboard. I was hoping for better..
Super friendly staff and fantastic food!
We live VERY close and would go here often (maybe once a week) the new owners were very very busy and understaffed at the beginning of their ownership, took patients with that, 2weeks ago we ordered Mayo-Honey Prawns and received a bunch of popcorn shrimp with hardly any sauce. My boyfriend called them up and complained. They offered to replace the order the next time we came in. Tonight I called to get our Mayo-Honey Prawns but had to make sure they were prawns instead of popcorn shrimp. I also ordered chicken chow mein (1 star) and an order of the crab ragoon. Made quick mention that they weren't the same as before (they were completely delicious) and the guy on the phone snapped at me and said "she has been making Thai Cuisine for 30 years, she knows how to make them and that's how they will be made!" Was very off putting and i was tempted to cancel, but i waited the half hour and went to get my food. Once i arrived home (under 2 minutes), my crab ragoon was cold and the flavor upsetting.
Needless to say this was probably the last time we will go here.
Miss the old owners, the friendly service and delicious food.
What a wonderful 5 star experience! The chef recommended her favorite dishes and the food was outstanding. The flavor was delicious, the quality of food was excellent and the serving portions were plentiful! Our waitress was fun and spunky!! Definitely a great restaurant with this new management.
I have love love loved this place for so long! My favorite thing to get is the mango sticky rice! But I just ordered it this evening....TWO OF THEM! (They’re that good) but the sticky rice wasn’t the same at all...and neither was the coconut milk it comes with. Not sure what happened to the old recipe but this new recipe is not worth buying again to me. So sad!
Under new management starting last month but this place is still rocking it out. Very friendly folks, I'm always patient during busy take-out callin times because I know the food is always tasty and I've never had a disappointing experience with them.
Horrible at customer service. We called in 5x and they wouldn't tell us when our order was going to be ready. And soon they just picked up and said nothing. We could hear the restaurant behind the caller. And the caller said nothing. Don't get delivery with this business!!!!
My fav place for thai food, theyre so friendly, fast, and they have amazing portions and prices. Their pad thai is AMAZING ive tried other places and never have i found a recipe that compares (:
Love the starters, Pad Thai shrimp and Thai iced tea. Yumm and it's fast and convenient.
Great food. Lots to eat. Take out too. Love pumpkin curry, red curry, Northshore rice special.
I love the curry soup here. I order it to go often. Because there is so much soup and I don’t want to waste it or have the foul smell from day old chicken in it, I always order it with tofu. The tofu is grilled separately, I believe, and takes on a really really yummy flavor. I absolutely love it, and they are super accommodating when it comes to menu items that I can quite eat the way they are. Over all, the staff has always been beyond polite and the food has never let me down. 10/10 would eat with rice.
Their fried rice is incredible. Delicious vegan options and very kind customer service. I order here twice a month.
Great start with the fresh rolls, that peanut sauce is out of this world. Then we go downhill and pretty quickly. The pork in the Pad See Eew was probably 40 - 50 percent gristle. The restaurant was not very busy but it took about an hour and a half to get the food and eat as a solo diner. So expect a wait. I was pretty disappointed after the other reviews touting the food.
Good food
Very good food
Always good. Always reliable and on time. Been eating here for forever.
Yummmm!
Pad Thai was good and the crab wontons were delicious
The best red chicken curry around (and Ive looked). Their pad thai is good too.
Very good local hole in the wall Thai. This one is in the top 10% of Thai restaurants in King County.
Go here with my handsome. We like it a lot. Always great fresh food. Always great friendly service. I think the guy we deal with is the owner but I'm not positive. I had just had a surgery done on my arm and needed some ice. My husband asked if we could buy some from him, he was very nice and after hearing why I needed it he just gave me some. We have gone back just bc of this.
awesome mango salad
Food is always delicious here. The service is fast and great!
Awesome!!!
Best Pad Thai around
Amazing food and service very tentative didn't have to ask for anything. Looking forward to stopping again
Very impressed. Great food and 5 stars of heat is actually spicey. I will be going back soon.
