Authentic Thai food - Cooked with love!
Kudos to Thai Won On for a yummy birthday dinner! This local spot just around the corner from me in Wellesley has a cozy vibe, great service, and flavorful food!
Drunken noodles is always my gauge at a Thai restaurant, and they understood the assignment. Level 3 Spicy Hot brought the heat without being painful. Will definitely go back for my next Thai craving.
The fried wonton appetizer didn't last as we devoured it. Sauce and wontons had good flavor, serving up the savory pork filling.
My wife had the Phō. Great broth with infused ginger flavor.
Up next to try will be a curry...
A fantastic experience in all aspects. The service staff was quick and friendly. As someone who enjoys Thai food, this place hit the mark with every dish. The steak appetizer had tremendous flavor and the sauce was unique. The curry was spicy with a little sweet on the backend and extremely flavorful. Will absolutely visit again and give Thai Won On a high recommendation for all to try
When we went, only the British menu was available. What a wonderful tour of British cuisine it was. The sausage roll was so tasty people traveled just for them. The Scotch egg was very savory, and the egg was cooked perfectly. The fish and chips were crispy, succulent, and authentic. You can tell hours of work go into the onion gravy.
I would highly recommend.
Jonathan (Englishman owner) served the room, while his wife ran the kitchen. Friendly folks made it a pleasant dining experience for our table. The Haddock fish n chips was cooked crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, and the beer batter was the right thickness.
The chips were thick cut and cooked just right.
A small cup of curry sauce that accented the fish was tasty, the tartar sauce was good, and with HP Sauce and malt vinegar I felt like I was in England.
Well-done! I shall be back to sample more of your cuisine.

What has 2 Thai thumbs and 2 British thumbs!?
A: This Won!!!!
From the clever name of the restaurant to the great service by Jonathan(british) up front, his wife(chef,Thai) and her staff in the kitchen who bring the food out personally -- so you get to meet most everyone!
Great menu! I had scotch egg followed by drunken noodle 🍜 What a great combo!
3 new menu items for 2024!!! I included all the pages of the menus!! I will be back!! Sounds like fish-n-chips and dessert is in the cards for next time!!
Very cozy and cute little place offers both Thai food and British Fish or Sausage with Chips. My son had the Cod and Chips, he said the fish has a very good flavor but needed salt and pepper. I ordered Drunken Noodles and Chicken Krapow. The appearance of the two dishes looked very much alike other than one has rice noodles in it. They also tasted similar. Drunken Noodles was very good, had good amount of ml noodles. Krapow did not have as much flavor as I was hoped for.
Update: it appears as they are no longer offering the Thai food on their menu when I recently checked their take out menu. Need to confirm.

Just went for Sunday lunch. The lunch specials were great. The noodle soup so good on a rainy Sunday afternoon.
The best Thai restaurant in west end henrico , virginia. Near at brunches
Delicious! We went not realizing that it was under new ownership, but we were not disappointed! Everything was amazing and we’ll definitely be back. The Tom Kha, Thai Lomein, and Khao Soi were especially on point!
Amazing food and ambience. I had the Thai fried rice, it was amazing.
Food was fantastic. The tom kha and kao soi especially slapped!
First time to Thai Won On. It’s a cozy restaurant. The Massaman and the Red Curry were amazing!!! Just the right amount of spice. We plan on going back to try everything on their menu
Loved the authenticy of the food and the staff was also very pleasant and welcoming the entire time. Would absolutely stop here again on future travels.

The food was really good!! I had the massaman curry at a 1(I'm a wimp lol) and it was fantastic.
Just be aware that proteins are charged ontop of whatever dish you're getting. So I thought my curry was going to be $13 and it was actually $16.
We stopped in for lunch and the food was delicious. We got the fried wontons, Tom Kha soup and Num Tok and Pad Thai. The portions were very generous and the service was amazing!! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The price is very reasonable especially for Richmond area. We will definitely eat here again.
When Joy was the chef the red curry was outstanding. Now since new Management and she no longer is the chef well......curry horrible! I threw it away. Will not be back. BIG waste of dollars.
Food is great very authentic, service was good, even though it was a packed house. Very good experience, I'll definitely go back soon.
unfortunately our pad thai was flavorless, it didnt have any of the yummy thai flavors you would expect, just rather plain.
I placed a take out order at 5:38 and received a notice that the food would be ready at 5:48. My husband went to pick it up. It is now 7:08 and he hasn’t gotten the food yet. That is unacceptable!
We have enjoyed this restaurant on several occasions in the past. However, when we walked in tonight, we noticed very few diners and multiple dirty tables (dirty plates with food piled up). We sat at the bar because there weren’t any clean tables. There was an 8-10 yr old behind the bar on her phone. She was instructed to pour our waters. She didn’t wash her hands and scooped the ice from a dirty cooler behind the bar. We opted not to order food because honestly, we were put off by the state of the restaurant, but also because the only diners in the restaurant were not attended to. We have heard that the owners opened a 2nd location in the city. Perhaps, this is why the restaurant was in this state. They should probably close this location if they are no longer attending to it. We left and went to another Thai restaurant and had an amazing meal.
Great curries, awesome flavor. Chef is not afraid to add the heat to her dishes! She even took the time to come out and speak to us! Very welcoming environment- can’t wait to return!
Extremely yummy food. Relatable and entertaining host as well!
Be aware if you order the Thai food that you will possibly wait a long time. That said the owners are very friendly and the food is good!
Best fish & chips in Richmond! It also comes with a tasty curry sauce on the side in addition to the tartar sauce.
Adorable little restaurant with great GF fish and chips. Don't forget to order the Gf sticky toffee cake. To die for! I will be eating here often!
Thai food wasn't great but the older man there was nice when we picked up our food.
Their fish dishes are one of the best I have had. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for their Thai food. It's very bland. The older man he is always nice every time I go there. The girl waitress has her days but who doesn't. It wasn't something very terrible I guess. Definitely come here and try the cod or haddock. 👍
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Thai One On. My yellow chicken curry noodle dish was flavorful but not too spicy. Just like I wanted. I'll try their fish and chips next time.
I'm totally amazed that any restaurant has the culinary skill to create such exceptionally delicious Thai AND British cuisine. We ordered drunken noodles and haddock fish and chips. Both were excellent. The haddock tasted like fresh catch. A beautiful and bountiful piece of lightly breaded heaven with lovely crispy chips. The best F&C I've ever tasted. The noodles were plentiful and delectable with generous portions of chicken. Prices fair and service excellent. High star rating well deserved!
Ordered pad Thai. was pretty disappointed. No flavor and when asked for some chili powder, he handed me red pepper flakes like the ones you sprinkle on pizza. I love Thai food but never had bad tasting pad Thai until now.
Absolutely hands down the best place in town in my humble but indisputably correct opinion. Not just the best Thai restaurant or British or fusion, it is The Best Food in Richmond and I have lived here my whole life. I am not a foodie or someone otherwise prone to using phrases like "complex" or "harmonious" in regard to my food but that what every dish I've had here has been. I have never had a meal here that did not impress me with how delicious it is. It's off the charts good for within the typical price range of local Thai takeout. The only restaurant I have ever waxed truly lyrical about. I love spicy food but for those less inclined be forewarned that they do not hold back. I have rarely felt compelled to write online reviews, but I do today. Everything I've had off the menu thus far has been amazing.
Best red curry I have had in the states!
A wonderful place to have dinner with friends and family. Joy and Jonathan are amazing!
Place is wonderful, their spice level is for real. Only place left actually willing to go max on spiciness.
Very tasty British and Thai food! My nephew gave the chips a 5/2 star rating (delicious).
The best
I love their Pad Thai and Pad See Ew. At first when you bite into them, they've got a different flavor and it might be kind of strange, but the second bite is incredible. For example the Pad Thai's flavor isn't primarily sweetness the way it is at most places, it's something different--I can't describe it, but it's great. And the Pad See Ew's flavor is a little different than other's and the noodles are softer and fresher, and it's overall a great taste. I'm so glad the Thai menu is available again! I missed it dearly.

We ordered Thai fried rice and Khou Soi, both were a bit bland but not bad. The establishment is a bit small, but the waiter was very nice and pleasant.
The fish and chips (gluten free) were godly, so crispy on the outside and perfectly moist and tender inside. I've never had better! The pad Thai was also the best I've had in Richmond. Will be back soon to try the Thai curries and definitely get another fish and chips.
Can’t get enough of the gluten free fish and chips. I unexpectedly interrupted a private party to pick up a takeout order and the place was packed. An extra order of chips and a drink was missing from my package. Shortly after I left, I got a phone call asking if my order was right because they thought they hadn’t forgotten the chips and a drink. They offered to refund me but I asked if I could come by later and get the things that were left out. They gave me a double order of chips and two drinks instead of the one. What incredible customer service. The food is always spot on and you won’t find a nicer business owner. Eventually I will try the Thai selections, but the GF fish/chips is impossible for me to pass up at the moment.

Here's the scoop - this is a Thai restaurant in name but they also serve a British menu and right now are serving only the British menu as the Thai chef is on a trip back home to Thailand. This was fine because we wanted the British menu! We moved to RVA over a year ago and had yet to find any fish and chips that rivalled the mom and pop British place in our previous town. This place is small and casual but we really liked it.
My mother ordered haddock and chips which came with curry sauce, topped with a lemon wedge, with salt and malt vinegar as well as HP sauce were available on the table. I went with bangers and mash with onion gravy. All the flavors were delicious and everything tasted made from scratch, hot and fresh. Portions were generous, prices were in line with portion size. We will definitely add this into our regular rotation! And we plan to try the Thai when the full menu resumes next month when she's back from her travels. Thry also have a selection of. British grocery items available. Quite a hidden gem!

Amazing fish and chips!
Great athmosphere and friendly service
This is my Thai choice in this area. Super friendly guy in the front and his wife cooks in the back. I have not tried their great british menu, but have heard it is good. All of the thai dishes are incredible and some of the best in the area.
I've lived in the U.S. for 27 years and I can say that this was THE best Fish and chips I've ever had. I had the cod. The curry sauce was mediocre - too runny. Love the fact that I can get black and white pudding and rashers here. Cooked up the sausage, bacon and black pudding for breakfast and it was delicious.

Great food and service, friendly folks .. but the place is tiny and noisy. Really depends on if that's your thing.
Food was freshly prepared. It was hot, spicy and tastes amazingly to the taste buds. I enjoyed the little time I spent there. It is a small place with a lovely ambiance.
I love love love the food. You should try it.
Beautiful small shop with a nice atmosphere. I tried the drunken noodles with tofu and the gluten free fried cod. They were both really delicious!!! I love they have gluten free options! I'm not sure of anywhere else you can get a gluten free fried fish. 10/10. Highly recommend.
Just opening the box I got excited to see that presentation and the quality. I didn't even eat it yet and knew that this was going to be the best I ever had period
A tiny family owned restaurant full of authentic Thai and British delights. Get a reservation if you are eating in on the weekend for dinner. Our server got a little distracted in the back during our visit, but it was an understandable disappearance.
You're coming here for the food, though. Looking for authentic Thai? They'll give you that and more. Most places cut back on the meat and put in filler vegetables. Not these guys. Each dish gets a choice of meat, chicken, beef, or shrimp. Large portions and everything can be done gluten-free. They have a good spice rating system, too, which is always a concern with Thai/Indian for me. Theirs is on point.
They also have a grocery option too if you want to take home some British culinary items. My mother in law took home some blood sausage. Apparently, we are going back this weekend so she can get more.
Great little space and wonderful owners. I loved the food myself and sent my fiancées British family. They have a new favorite fish and chips in the city.
Great food! Awesome service! Fun atmosphere!
WOW WOW WOW!!
Why did it take us so long to find this place! The Pad Thai has to be the best I’ve ever had. Crab Rangoon… we have been in RVA 6 years and have looked high and low for what they make. My wife said it’s worth 5 stars just for that alone. Love that they offer a British selection as well. Had fish and chips, and mushy peas. Spring rolls are great too. I will be back here so many more times!!
Absolutely perfect pad thai my son got the cod and again Absolutely perfect 100% coming back
Loved the tofu pad thai! Kaprow was a little salty but still good
👌👌👌 these owners know what exactly they are doing and love their customers! I can't think of a place I've ever had better service. Just beautiful! The absolute best fish n chips I've ever had!
Food was amazing! Husband had haddock and chips and I had Pad Thai Shrimp. Best we've ever had. Staff was extremely friendly. Will definitely be back
Excellent food and service. The traditional fish and chips is great and very authentic. The Thai food is equally delicious!
Nice little place with yummy food. The drunken noodles had such great flavor!
Everything was excellent. Even have a couple British options that did not disappoint. Cozy place. Friendly staff.
Whatever you do, don't sleep on this place. I just enjoyed the best fish & chips I've ever had. It's so nice to have the choice between Cod & Haddock. The batter was phenomenal, and the Haddock was absolutely perfectly done. My wife had the Chicken Pad Thai, which she only let me have one bite of.
If you want a taste of Britian, this is the place.
If you or your partner can't agree on Thai or something else, this is the best option as well.
Thai Won On USED to come to our community as a food truck. Sadly, for us, they became brick/mortar in Short Pump…away from us in the VCC area. I visited for lunch last week and had the best Fish/Chips I’ve ever had. The portion of cod was huge and the breading just right. The fries were so yummy, with just the right amt of salt. Jon even encouraged me to try the curry dipping sauce! I can’t wait to go back!
Delicious food. Plan on going back soon. It may be small, but it's full of flavor.
My friends and I decided to try this place for dinner. While the name lead me to believe it would be primarily Asian Cuisine I wasn't disappointed. The food was very good, our server was very intentive and kept the entire establishment entertained. It's a small quaint environment, with very limited seating. I'd recommend if you're looking for something not in the heart of Shortpump with easy parking.
Fantastic food! It's a smaller space with six tables and a small bar. The food is amazing! We had the pad Thai, fish and chips, spring rolls, drunken noodles with shrimp, and fried rice with shrimp and everyone loved their meal. The owner is so personable and kind, clearly very passionate the food. We had a meat eater, vegetarian, and two pescatarians in the group, and no one had an issue finding something great. It's a mix of British food and Thai. Definitely a go to spot!
Absolutely the best fish n chips in Richmond. British style chips and choice between haddock and cod.
I was excited to try this place as they had a lot of gluten free options.
We ordered chicken Pad Thai and shrimp Pad See Ew. We spent 42$ for both dishes.
Pad Thai is among the most well known and eaten Thai staples. This one, not so much. The flavors weren’t there. It was quite bland and the flavor that it did have was reminiscent of barbecue sauce. The noodles were dry, there were no green onions and the lime we were given was dry as well. I definitely won’t order it again.
The Pad See Ew was closer to the flavor that it should have been, although still very bland. The texture of the noodles and cabbage was accurate. I had to order the entree with shrimp instead of beef because they were out, which is understandable. But I only received 4 small shrimp with the meal.
They also offer British fare.. I can’t speak on that as I have not tried it. It seems they should pick one and sell just that as I’m sure they both suffer.
The Aussie who took my order was very nice and professional. The inside of the restaurant was clean, but very very small.
Great food. Nice walk from the house.
Wonderful experience dining here. My fiance couldnt decide what to have so got the cod and chips (best either of us have ever had) and some green curry to take home/split. The curry was wonderful. I had the kaprow done thai hot. I absolutely love insane levels of spice and if you do as well you will not be disappointed. Ive been to more places that try to talk you out of this spice level and have underwhelming heat levels, this was not the case here. If you arent 100 percent sure if you want thai hot i wouldnt do it. Even with the heat the flavors were really able to shine through. Cant say enough good things about this place!
It’s so good. Make a reservation if you can. It’s a small restaurant, 5 tables and a little bar. The owner is delightful and so is the food. I can’t wait to go back. We had 2 appetizers and 2 entrees. It was all flavorful and perfectly cooked. They had sausage rolls in a little hot case. My husband got one to go and loved it. You really can’t go wrong.
The best cream cheese ragoon I've ever had and the fish and chips were AMAZING!! Best restaurant meal I've had in a long time!
Best thai food and they understand gluten free and nut free. They also have London fish and chips and rumor says they can make them gluten free with advance notice! They are a hole in the wall place. I want them to be packed to be busy and succeed and at same time, I want them to stay able to cater to food allergies and Individuals. They used to own a food truck before taking the leap to brick and mortar.
Jon and Joy are a delight to visit. My Wife likes Thai food a lot. I’ve eaten Thai and generally enjoyed what I’ve had but I’m scared to order online for me because I don’t like/enjoy food that is too spicy HOT. I stopped in one afternoon. They weren’t bust at this time and I “chatted” Jon up. Among other things I explained my “fear” to Jon.
He said “wait a moment”. Joy came out of the kitchen …..she is so very nice. She assured Me that she can adjust the heat….I just have to ask. A very nice couple.
I’ve ordered tonite. An hour wait. My wife and I were both happy to wait. We both also agree that we’re happy that business is good.
If you’ve had something that wasn’t GREAT from TWO….I think it was a fluke. Try them again.
Time to go get my order!
Thanx Jon and Joy.
See you in a few minutes!
The rangoons are the best I have had in the area. Next time we will try a British Option.
Absolutely the best place this side of the Atlantic to get fish n chips owners from England they also do bangers and mash and sell propor bacon n bangers and great curry sauce
This has to be possibly the worse Pad Thai I have ever eaten! The spring rolls were burnt, I was also missing napkins and fork. I had to remind the staff that I paid for a Thai iced tea. I am so disappointed!
As a fellow brit it goes without saying our expectations of finding anything remotely close to the thick flaky cod that we are used to is very hard to find here in the states. And we have traveled various states, and always searched out many places that offer cod and chips while there. Majority bringing disappointment.
Travel no more 30min up the road best cod ever.
Thai food out standing and tasty.
We also bought 32oz of back bacon fabulous price bargain.
The selected cost below did not reflect the bacon.
There isn’t a single item on this menu that doesn’t look amazing. As you can see from the pictures of what we ordered (and we weren’t shy!), the dishes are a feast for your eyes first, and then for your taste buds! The curry is
A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!! I ordered Thai Hot and it didn’t disappoint (it was hot!!). The Pad Thai was beautifully prepared, and all of the appetizers were well-executed and equally delicious. Jon was engaging and made brilliant recommendations, and Joy (the chef) came out personally to make sure everything was to our expectations. All around exceptional experience. This is our “spot” for Thai in the RVA area.
Being born and raised in England, I’m very particular about my British food and have experienced many ‘fails’ during my years in the US! Being owned by a Brit, I was hoping the new British menu at Thai Won On would live up to my expectations…I was not disappointed. I chose the Haddock over the Cod and was blown away by the freshness, crisp batter and the likeness to traditional fish n chips. The ‘chips’ were crisp on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. I’ve finally found my home-away-from-home comfort food!
Me and my family loved this place, and we will be back often. We are all Brits, and we tried the cod, the haddock, sausages, pad Thai and the papaya salad. Everything was wonderful, but a special mention to the fish and chips; they were perfect. My sister even said 'better than the Friary' which is the best chip shop in our home town (trust me thats really saying something.) The staff were very friendly and the service was great. Highly recommend!
So many good Thai places in the area… tough competition and location.
We went when it was first opened and got fried rice. We were surprised when we got home and opened it to see it had burned parts throughout the rice. I read other reviews and see someone else said the same.
Amazing dinner there last night! Food (both Thai & British) was delicious & the owners delightful. HIghly recommend the pad thai & new cheesecake roll creation. Plan to return soon.
Best Food in Short Pump! We had intended to visit a different restaurant, but thankfully they were closed today and we went to Thai Won On instead! My husband was standing outside saying, "It's not Chinese..." I replied, "It doesn't have to be." And we are so glad it wasn't!
The food is fantastic - no need for salt, definitely no need for soy sauce! I got the #10 Fried Rice with the optional chicken. I usually order things with "no onion", but this time, I thought I'd give it a go. The onions were sweet and tasty, not pungent, and not overpowering in any way. The other vegetables were cut just the right size, and the chicken was sliced to perfection. The portions were huge, enough to take leftovers home.
I can't have gluten and the owner took the time to explain the menu and how everything, except for one soup, is gluten-free. They even have two kinds of gluten-free beer! (I'll be trying that on a future visit.) He said everything is cooked to order, so you can decide what you want. They do vegetarian, vegan, and have tofu or shrimp for the other proteins besides chicken.
We had desserts, the names of which I can't remember. One had a special sticky rice that only grows in Thailand topped with mango and a light creamy sauce - SO delicious!! I've never liked the taste of mango I've had in the past, but this was incredible and I'll be ordering it again!
The owners were awesome (they are in the photo) - the wife is the cook, although she deserves a much better title that I can't think of. The husband takes care of the customers and does a fantastic job of it - very personable and attentive! The atmosphere is beautiful: clean and bright, yet cozy at the same time. It's a small space, but they did a great job with designing the layout - plenty of seating and didn't feel crowded at all.
This is our new favorite restaurant! I highly recommend Thai Won On!! (Such a clever name!)
Really wanted to love this place but it was such a mixed bag of good and bad that I almost certain won’t order again.
The good: coconut shrimp were AMAZING! The pad see ew was fine and I would eat it again but nothing to write home about.
The bad: the cream cheese wontons were extremely soggy and oily, so I’m pretty sure their oil was too cold or they undercooked. The mango sticky rice was inedible. The flavor of the rice just didn’t work for us.
We saw this place open up a few months ago and really wanted to try it out. We are glad we did! We ordered the Pad Thai with Shrimp, and Pineapple Fried Rice with Chicken, with a side of Cream Cheese Rangoon. The Rangoon was the best we've tasted. Very flavorful without the greasy, fried taste we are used to. The entrees were simply fantastic! Great taste. And the owner was great to chat with as well. We will definitely be back!
Yummy. Will be going back for sure.
I went to Thai Won On's fundraiser, and tried the spring rolls and green curry dish. Everything was delicious, and the service, superb.
Amazing dumplings!
Great for Short Pump. I had the Pad Thai and ordered it screaming Thai hot and yes it was HOT just how I like it! The establishment was very welcoming and super clean. The staff was nice and welcoming.
I love Thai Won On! Favorite lunch spot.
Just ordered pad Thai which has no flavor at all. We also ordered their pineapple fries rice which was burned and flavorless. I would not recommend this place
