Authentic Thai Cuisine in Lynchburg, Virginia.
I have been here a couple of times and have not been that impressed. One of the last times I was there I had got panang curry, which is my absolute favorite. So after a handful of bites I kept saying something is missing. I finally realized it was crushed peanuts every Penang curry I’ve ever gotten no matter where always had crushed peanuts on top. So I said something to the waitress and she said it didn’t come on it and I said well can I get some crushed peanuts and so she brought me some, a whole lot more than what I needed she wasn’t a very pleasant waitress from the start. Then when I got the bill, I noticed there was a five or six dollar charge for those crushed peanuts. My mouth dropped open. I couldn’t say anything because I wasn’t invited guest at one of my sister‘s best friends birthday so I just paid it instead of making a big deal about it. This happened about a year or so ago. I don’t know what was on the menu like a year ago, but when you look on the menu now under Panang curry in the description, it says crushed peanut.
So I haven’t been back or ordered anything to go since then Until last night (12/27/24) I ordered 2 of the mango sticky rice and 1 banana chee. I will say that the mango sticky rice was delicious. My problem was is that it’s $7.99 and there was barely any rice. I was so mad when I got home and opened up the bag and saw what they put in the container. I took a picture of it the way it was, and then I took a picture of it after I separated the rice away from the mango. I’m sorry, but if you’re gonna charge 8$ for this then you need to make it worth 8$ I would’ve rather had half the amount of mangoes and double the rice. Again, it was delicious. It really was. It just was not worth 8$ because of the quantity that they give you. From now on, I will definitely be going I guess to one of the two other Thai places we have here in town. I loved going to Thai 99 when the owner was Patty But I have recently heard that Patty does not own it anymore and she moved back to Thailand. I’m not sure if that’s true or not, but I really loved going there, and the quality and quantity with Patty was excellent. I’ve heard that since she’s left and doesn’t own it anymore it’s not the same and it’s not as good as it used to be.
TL:DR - variety of SE Asian food on the menu with good service and okay atmosphere.
Not bad, but not to the point where I want to go back to try the same menu. The restaurant has variety, so I would like to try more things. I have tried Pad Thai, but I guess it wasn't up to my standard. The taste was there though if you want to just turn of your craving. Tom Yum soup was good. The flavor was there. Penang curry was hard to tell how good it was because we ordered it Thai spicy, so majority of taste was from the spice rather than the curry. They are spicy indeed and I have normal Korean spice tolerance. Pad Kaprow was a good menu. Not to the point that I would get it again, but it was worth trying. My friend enjoyed the samosas that were in the vegetable platter. I personally did not find anything particularly outstanding yet. Service was good. Our server was a Liberty University student, and he was friendly. I thought the restaurant was a bit messy, and I think that is because they blocked a section of their restaurant with chairs as soon as you walk in with no sign to show why. Otherwise, the decor and setting up a wide space in the middle with tables close to the wall was a very good choice of the restaurant.
Food was quite good. The soup was delicious and spicy, the noodles were medium spicy, flavorful, and savory. The fried rice was mild and the egg in it was especially tasty. Would recommend medium spice if you like spicy food and if you really like spice I would go for the hot. Also, highly recommend the taro steamed buns.
This place is overpriced for the amount of food you get . The presentation is nice but the portions are small. The flavor is ok but not great . My wife’s rice was very little . She asked for more rice and they charged 3 dollars . We ordered the $14 appetizer trio and it was very small…barely enough for two people. This restaurant is not a value .
Appropriately priced meals and great employees. More of a date night atmosphere than a grab a bite to eat. Wonderful food! However, if you are not super adventurous or familiar with Thai flavors be careful what you order! There are some really unique tasting dishes.
I highly recommend the Rama, drunken noodles, Kang Malay, and Sunnyside-up kaprow! All sooo delicious!
I never leave bad reviews and usually love this place, but I won’t be coming back unfortunately. When I ordered I asked if it was possible to swap out tofu for extra veggies on the lunch special and they said that was no problem. The lunch special costs $12, and when I got there they charged me $20. When I asked why they said it was an up charge to swap out for veggies. The guy working was very rude and when I told him he should have mentioned the up charge he just shrugged and said “ I don’t know what to tell you. Have a nice day” and walked away. When I opened my order they didn’t even give me the veggies that go with the dish.
The food here is amazing and the staff are so friendly! If you like authentic spicy Thai foods this is the place to go. Order the native Thai spice and it won't disappoint, but be prepared to have some cold beers to chase it down!
I went with the hubby to try them out. We got the ka prow with a sunny side egg, spicy fried rice, spicy dumplings, and mango and sticky rice, plus some Kirin on tap and Chang beer. Everything was wonderful, highly recommend giving them a shot!
Friday nite at 8:00, only 14 other diners in dining room, ordered apps and one entree..The wait time was 35 minutes for first app. The food consisted of proper ingredients but all dishes were horribly cooked, the preparation for all was extremely overcooked, the portions for the price were so small..The table beside us ordered more food because the were still hungry!!! I wouldn't recommend this experience for anyone !!@
Great drunken noodles
Outstanding Thai food highly recommend
Tasty, prices are a bit steep for take out.

Little but surprisingly good food.
By far this is the best Thai food we've found in a 100 mile radius. And we've tried several, believe me. My wife and I have been eating here for more than 6 years and the greatest thing we can say, besides the awesome wait staff and the clean restaurant, and the pretty ambiance... The food is always perfect! It is consistent and delicious and I have never been upset. I would put this place against any! Trust me, it is worth the drive... My wife and I drive over an hour to get there.

Great food along with the service.

The kitchen mistook cucumber for zucchini in my green curry. Out of half the draft beers with no explanation or apology. Server is a jerk in his attitude. Kept calling me “bud” (?). Doesn’t refill water. Acts annoyed. I realize he was only server on the floor but..
Food is some of the best in Lynchburg if you're into it
The best and spiciest curry around. I love it!!!
Appropriately priced meals and great employees. More of a date night atmosphere than a grab a bite to eat. Wonderful food! However, if you are not super adventurous or familiar with Thai flavors be careful what you order! There are some really unique tasting dishes.

Delicious food. Everything was freshly cooked and very flavorful. Megan was a wonderful server, friendly and welcoming without hovering. I love this place
I will never eat here again after tonight's experience. The waiter was as extremely rude. He had a 12 top and a 2 top when I walked in. He was so 'busy' that he treated me like garbage. I was polite the entire time and love the food here. I even told him I understand he was busy. Didn't matter. The only thing I asked for besides my food was one refill on water. (I had to call out to him because any time he came out he purposely ignored me, keep in mind I am one of three tables). He poured a nice warm glass of water into my empty glass. Not sure what I did to deserve this treatment but the guy really made me feel like I was bothering him by being there. I will never go back. There is no way the owners do not know of his behavior. For some reason this must be ok with them. I don't care how good the food is, I don't spend good money to be treated this way. The entire dining experience took one hour because of him ignoring me. Good luck treating people like they bother you by eating at your restaurant.
You need to try this place
Absolutely disgusting front house looks
Like he hasn’t showered in weeks n was very rude and passed off menus from
One table to the next with no sanitation in between. Just gross. Beware!
Delicious. We celebrated a birthday here. The food was superb.

One of my favorite places in Lynchburg to eat. Noodles are amazing. Good vegetarian options.
Excellent authentic food with a very fair portion at a great price
While attending LU, my daughter had worked previously in a school cafeteria (where regulations for safety and sanitation are very strict!) as well as another restaurant in town. So, when she recently took the job of server at Ty Thai, I asked her what the kitchen, food prep, and sanitation practices were like....
Her answer: "Not a problem here, Mom! They are meticulous about food storage and cleanliness!" I wanted to share that in my review, from an "insiders" p.o.v., for people who care about such things ...
Now to address other aspects of the restaurant:
I have gone at least five times since my daughter began working there and have always found the meals to be excellent! The egg noodle dishes and spicy rice are probably my favorites. I love that there are so many vegetables in their dishes. My daughter tells me the food is free of MSG (I have to request that it be omitted from Chinese dishes), and the service couldn't be better! 😉
There is, at times, a longer wait for the food than one might experience in other restaurants. I see they've received some negative reviews because of this. I just want to add that this is a family -owned business, and there are only two, maybe three cooks with a few burners on which to work. Every single dish is made FRESH!! That takes time - especially on busy weekend nights. So, if you're in a hurry, go through the McD's drive-through!! If you are looking for quality food in a clean, relaxing atmosphere, go to Ty Thai (and don't forget to tip your server! ☺️)
I never leave bad reviews and usually love this place, but I won’t be coming back unfortunately. A wonderful dining experience.
We went during the busiest time on Saturday 6PM to 8PM so we knew there would be a wait. But worth all of it. If you want great food be patient! Serves were great through the entire experience!
They are rude! Said takeout would take an hour we went ahead because we really wanted to try it and it ended up taking over an hour and a half. Should have hung up when he was rude in the first place
Great food and fantastic staff.
Food is fantastic! Our server last night was delightful. Highly recommend!
Really good food. I highly recommend. Every meal that I have tried is delicious
For lunch, this place opens until 2:30PM. I went there at 2:08pm and was told I can’t dine in. The way the waitress told me is very rude. Worst experience ever.
The food was not tasty and the portion size was small. Has there been a change in ownership? They raised prices and reduced the quality. I was unhappy with my Penang curry and drunken noodle dish. I have been comming here for since they opened the restaurant.
My families favorite restaurant in Lynchburg. Amazing flavor and great service.
I don't know much about Thai food, but we tried 3 different dishes and all were delicious, as was the Thai tea. The tablecloths and decorations on the wall were really beautiful.
I went in for a nice meal and was unpleasantly surprised with an hour and a half wait for my food when the restaurant wasn't busy. I also had to wait 20 minutes for my check as the second to last table in the restaurant. I get that sometimes you're understaffed, however, that does not excuse the one checkup in the hour and a half from the waitress.
Food was decent but the wait was atrocious. It was over an hour from ordering to receiving the food. It wasn’t even that busy. The waiter was kind but she didn’t check on us and inform us of the wait. Another couple walked out right after we were served. We were about to leave when our food came. We will not be coming back. Such a shame.
Ordered takeout. Guy on the phone was super friendly. However, the food was a disappointment. The quantity you get for the price is too low. They give the smallest container of rice I’ve ever seen - probably 1/3 as much as a typical take-out rice. The curry containers are also small, especially considering they don’t come all the way full! The pumpkin curry tofu had only a small little layer of curry. The panang curry container was full, but the curry was watery. Despite the friendly staff, would not order from here again. The meal fell short of the $40 price tag.
Wonderful Pad Thai and delicious Thai Iced tea
Yummy, love spicy pad rice.
The best Thai food in lynchburg period. Never had a bad meal from here and the service is always excellent.
Best Thai food I have ever tried
Awful service. Left before being served. There were 5 customers in the restaurant when we entered. We were told to sit wherever. Then it took another 7 minutes to get a menu. Then another 5 minutes to ask about our order. No offer of water, no smile, no introduction or welcome and we felt like we were an inconvenience. So we left.
best Thai food I've gad in a long time!!
Love this place for good Thai food.
Highly recommend the mango chicken salad if you want something light.
For something more substantial i always go for the Drunken Noodles- with tofu add string beans. The pad thai is a good introductory dish, it's pretty mild and something the kids will eat.
The Thai ice tea is excellent as well, great at cooling you down after a spicy dish 😝😅
So far i have loved everything I've eaten here. If you like healthier Asian food with a tropical twist, this is your jam! Check it out!!
We finally got to try this restaurant, and unfortunately I don't think we'll be coming back. Ty Thai has to compete with Thai 99, which is really hard to do because everything Thai 99 serves is SO high in flavor and cooked perfectly. Ty Thai also costs about 15% more. My family wanted me to rate this as 3-stars, but I'm giving it 4 because comparing this restaurant to Thai 99 is like someone comparing every great artist to phenomenal ones like Van Gogh and Monet — that's not really fair. Plus the dining environment is nice.
Here's what we tried and what we thought about it:
- The Kang Keaw Whan (green curry) with chicken tasted a bit like dill pickles, and the vegetables were overcooked (some were extremely mushy). We really wish this could have been ordered as mild since it was too spicy for some family members.
- The Kao Pad (Thai Fried rice) with Shrimp was tasty but somewhat lacking flavor. Maybe 25% more of however they flavor it would have made it a 5 star dish for us.
- The pork in our pad see-ew was overcooked and fairly tough, and though the flavor was pretty good, it was a very forgettable dish.
- The steamed dumplings were perfect.
This place has really gone down hill. We waited for an hour and never received our appetizer or food. We ultimately gave up, paid for our drinks, and left.
Food has no flavor ,no peanuts ,Called and tryed to bring food back ,was told they could not give me refund or re make .While I was waiting to pick up food ,tryed to order a drink but they had lost there liquor license. Will not revisit this place.....
I rarely leave bad reviews but this was a truly baffling experience. We went as a 5-top around 6pm on Saturday night. Almost the entire place was empty , save for three tables totaling 7 guests. We were told it would be a 20 minute wait. We waited for 20 minutes without even being sat at any of the empty tables or getting water or anything. After 20 minutes we asked for a status and were told 10 more minutes max. After about 15 minutes , someone came out and told us that we could sit but if we wanted anything with rice or noodles, it would take over an hour to make … what can you order at a Thai restaurant without rice or noodles ?! We ended up just leaving and the staff didn’t apologize or care. Very disappointing and will not return.
The worst experience ever! The server and service is slow at this restaurant. I called multiple times and got hung up on, after being on hold for over 10 minutes and then arriving at the restaurant I try to place a to go order. It was about 1:10pm at this point in the server came back to the desk and told me that they were no longer serving lunch, even though several dine in customers had not even received a water at their table! Then I was ignored and asked “was I ok” I asked them to speak to the owner, she told me the owner was leaving and didn’t have time. I warn others about the slowwww service there and the horrible owner. Avoid this place at all cost !! Go to Thai 99
One of the best restaurants in Lynchburg, hands down!
We waited 45 minute for dumplings appetizer. And longer for our food order. They’re reasoning was they had call in orders to do first. So if you don’t want to wait an hour for your food don’t come here, this was absolutely the worst service I have ever had in Lynchburg. Ive never posted a bad review on anyone before, but this place deserves the worst rating. The hostess or whoever she was got loud with me when I asked the question of how much longer till we get our dinner? She said very loudly so the whole restaurant hears go back to your table and I’ll check, Needless to say we left!! I will never visit this restaurant ever ever again. I hope the owner of this restaurant reads this! To tell someone that you’re calling orders mean more that speaks highly of what you think of your sit down visitors!
Food was okay
Maybe we came at a bad time?
We arrived at 4:30 on a Thursday evening and were the only dine in customers for about an hour. We couldn’t leave until 6pm because everything took so long.
There was one lady working and it took us a while after we were seated to get menus and also a while to get our order taken. The food also took a while and we ended up having to go up to get the check and to go box.
While we were there, there were SEVERAL people who came in to place to go orders or who were there to pick up orders.
The food was good, but not memorable enough to make up for how long service took.
So maybe this is more of a take out spot than a sit down restaurant?
Pricey for the service. Only 1 guy working host and server. Takes forever for the foods to come. The food was definitely overpriced. They have good thai tea tho!!
Delicious! I highly recommend this restaurant, it's my new go to place! I ordered Sriracha Lava Crispy Chicken "Thai Spicy" and it was amazing.
Our favorite restaurant in town.
Service is great. Portions of food are very little. I thought I ordered a kids meal.
A bit costly but the food is good. Love their spring rolls.
The food was fantastic and the service friendly!
Nice place. Friendly staff. Portion to price on the Thai fried rice was not that good. The rice was pretty good but not that spicy even after asking them to make it thai hot. I don't think I will go again.
We are huge fans of Thai food and have been to some excellent Thai restaurants. This was the first time that we’ve been to TY Thai, and they did not disappoint. Already looking forward to going back.
Beautiful decor, great Thai food, friendly service.
Never disappointed wonder food. Great place to have di ner & chat with friends.
The server Megan was serving a busy dining room and managing take out by herself. Very impressed with the service!
Great food and service.
Totally awesome food (just be careful with the spiciness level, as medium is quite hot for some...)
Good sandwiches.....from ordering to takeout is a little slow
The food here is amazing and the staff are so friendly! If you like authentic spicy Thai foods this is the place to go. Order the native Thai spice and it won't disappoint, but be prepared to have some cold beers to chase it down!
I went with the hubby to try them out. We got the ka prow with a sunny side egg, spicy fried rice, spicy dumplings, and mango and sticky rice, plus some Kirin on tap and Chang beer. Everything was wonderful, highly recommend giving them a shot!
A really nice local spot with some really good Thai food and service.
Their golden shrimp and green curry are delicious.
I love Thai food, I've been to Thailand, I cook Thai food at home and I go to a Thai restaurant in every city I visit. This was some of the best I've had. Super authentic, great flavors, heat levels were spot on. I usually don't go to a restaurant multiple times when I'm visiting because I like to try different places, but I went back 3 times in 3 days because the food was so great and I just wanted to try more. The staff is beyond awesome as well!! Lynchburg has a gem and I hope anybody that is local to the area will support them and anyone visiting will take the time to stop in!!
Excellent staff, great food, and lots of memories are made in this lovely spot. I introduced the wife to the beauty of Thai food here, I'll always keep this establishment dear to my heart, always.
I love Ty Thai! Megan has been our waitress for quite some time now and she is excellent. The food is always above and beyond and I always leave with a full stomach. I look forward to my next meal to try!
Long story short, I would not recommend for large families or families of color.
I’m not going to lie, the food is delicious but pricy. Unfortunately, we had to wait over 45 minutes before we got it. Also, I don’t recommend it if you’re of a certain color because my family and I have noticed that we ordered the same food as a different table who were not colored. Their portions of food were much larger than ours even though we ordered the same exact thing.
Don’t get me wrong, the customer service is not bad, and I understand they may be understaffed. However, as a previous manager of a restaurant during COVID time, equal opportunity is essential to business. Also, it would be nice if the server came to check on us every 10 minutes instead of every 20+ minutes; especially when there are only five tables that do not require a lot of attention.
Very nice place! I have never tried Thai but decided to try it. Me and 3 others had the Thai sampler which was delicious then we got pad thai and Rama crispy chicken which was so good!!
For desert we got fried ice cream that was on fire!(literally) my only negative was that the tables and seating were very close together so you could here what other people were talking about. But I definitely recommend!!!
Good was ok. High price
Love thai food
New favorite restaurant!
Best Thai in Lynchburg, by far. Generally, the farther you are from a major metro area, the harder it is to find good Thai, so Ty Thai was a nice surprise. Wait times can be long but given current difficulties I completely understand. And, wait staff have always been pleasant and hustling to keep up.
Excellent food, great service, and nice place to eat.
This is my go-to Thai restaurant in Lynchburg. Everything I have tried there has been very good.
The food was good and the price was reasonable.
Good Thai food, nice atmosphere.
Loved the drunken noodles and spicy fried rice. Definitely best thai in Lynchburg!!
Excellent Thai cuisine! A friendly wait staff and a wonderful menu (lunch prices are amazing) make this a must for anyone craving good Thai.
Zero Stars if I could -- absolutely and unequivocally the worst Thai food experience of my life. Despite a very nice young lady who provided decent customer service, the bland food and unannounced pay-for-water policy makes this place the last restaurant of any kind that you would want to visit (unless I had no other choice and was starving). My wife and I ordered what we thought were traditional Thai dishes (of course why else would we go there) of Green Curry Chicken that was watery/ soupy and a cold heap passing as Pad Kaprow and it was anything but authentic. My suspicions that the cuisine was not the 'real mcoy' was confirmed after I paid the check and commented as such to the waitress -- the owners / chef are Chinese -- do not do justice to the cuisine but probably better with Chinese food!!! We were mesmerized by the Thai decor upon entering but it turned out to be cultural misappropriation gone wrong. Frankly, I'm shocked that this restaurant is still in business--definitely avoid it!!!
We go here all the time. It has the best fried rice. I would definitely recommend this place to eat.
Get the thai iced tea and duck wontons! Also recommend the garlic jumbo shrimp, and any of the curries! 😋
Always fresh, always tasty. This place is a true treat for its quality food and pleasant atmosphere, conveniently situated.
Ordered pad Thai with chicken to go today. it was basically all noodles and very little sauce. I wanted to like it so much but was disappointed. it was terribly dry and needed something more. Granted I was there between lunch and dinner but it really should not make any difference. Sorry but must write a truthful review.
I had the calamari. It has been the best here in Lynchburg so far. My family came and they had different things so I was able to try the curry and the sweet and sour. Both was excellent. They don't have fountain drinks just bottled beverages. The price is high but worth it.
Green curry was good, basil eggplant was really good
Great Thai restaurant! Food was excellent and beer ice cold. Poor waitress runs herself ragged though. They could use some help.
I have never waited more than 45 min at any restaurant ever and had to pay for my meal. I’ve waited over and hour to be seated but never for my food. From the time my family and I were sat to the time our food came out was an hour and 52 min. We were literally getting up to leave, because we just asked for the third time when our food would be out and were told it would be another 20 minutes, when they finally started to bring our food out. We were, with good reason in my opinion, rather unhappy and told them unless they wanted to comp our meals we would be going elsewhere. The server had to check with the manager whose response was “we don’t give away free food so we can take the food back and just charge you for the drinks and appetizers.” I usually love the food here and the service is usually great too but that whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth and I highly doubt I will be returning any time soon.
Food was great, long wait, busy and need more help.
I haven't had Thai food since I was 6 or 7 years old and I don't remember it other than one of our mexican friends ordered something Hot and it lot her up and this lady ate Jalapeño daily. My late experience says that Thai food must be from a region near India because the majority of the food was based in Curry. Being that I'm not a fan of Curry doesn't make me a great critic. I ordered a Salmon yay was not Curry based and while it was good it wasn't great. That is not to say the dish was bad it just wasn't great to me. My son liked his food and my wife was neutral.
We love this restaurant! They have a nice shaded patio and the food is wonderful. The portions are generous. I highly recommend their Pad Ginger Chicken
Best Thai in Lynchburg for sure
We wanted to try Thai food in the area and decided to go here since it is open for dining. The other reviews about being charged and not being told about weird charges are very accurate.
Never have we been charged at any Asian restaurant for soy sauce. The waitress never told us that they charge guests for sauces. I have always thought condiments are complimentary? It’s like going to McDonald’s and being charged for ketchup.
Overall, food was slow to get out. Flavor was ok, not bad, but not great. We were just shocked to see a charge for soy sauce! Very dishonest! Please tell your customers that they have to pay for everything—-literally, everything.
I personally love and only get their drunken noodles dish here.
Yummy food! They have vegan options and the wait staff is very friendly.
Very good. Family had a great time.
Best Thai in Lynchburg 👍
Great service! Food is great and you can choose the level heat you prefer. One of our favorite places and a lot of healthier choices!
Tasted bland..
The best Thai food around! Love everything about this place.. the food, the owners, the staff. Always consistently delicious!
My wife is a big fan of Thai food, so she chose Ty Thai for her birthday dinner. We've eaten there a number of times before, so we liked their food, but things have gone downhill in recent times.
If we had gotten takeout, this review might be better. The food itself was good and we enjoyed it. The biggest problem was the service. When we arrived, we heard the waitress telling others that they were very busy, so wait times to get their food might be up to 30 minutes. We had reserved a table, so we got seated immediately. From the time we ordered, it was well over an hour, maybe 75 minutes, before our food arrived. After waiting an hour, I asked the waitress if the food was almost ready, and she said she'd check. She then proceeded to bus other tables and do other tasks, and never did come to our table to give us an update. This is unacceptable after she knew we were getting upset!
On a Saturday night, which is probably the busiest of the week, they only had one waitress. This is just unacceptable, but even if they had staffing issues, she didn't seem to be too concerned about the satisfaction of her guests. Take out orders were going out quickly, so I wonder if those were prioritized.
I assume that due to Covid they were not serving tap water, but why? They gave us cups with ice in them, then charged us for bottled water without telling us they were doing this. If it was okay to fill the cups with ice, why couldn't they have just filled them with water like other restaurants still do? At least tell us about the charge! Not only that, but she never even asked if we needed more water over the course of nearly 2 hours!
Unfortunately, it'll be a long time before we go back to Ty Thai. They aren't even the best Thai food in town, but we wanted a sit-down meal. There's no reason to take so long and then to not even talk to customers to tell them what's going on.
If you're in the mood for Thai food, I suggest you look elsewhere.
edit: we gave it another try today and it was much better than before!
Disappointing. My pad Thai tasted like a few tries I made at home and failed miserably. I had all the right ingredients but the taste was just off. Also quite expensive for Thai food.
Get the dumplings appetizer. Great food. Great service. Highly recommend. Have them give you the spice tray for added flavor.
0 STARS. So. Let me break this down for ya'll. For those who just want a simple yes or no if you should go there, your answer is NO. This place has the worst customer service, there would be better service as a POW in Kim Jong Un's dungeon. But for you to understand here is the timeline of events: my friends and I made a reservation morning of for 6 people at 6pm. To start the lady on the phone was extremely rude and showed about as much emotion as a dead fish. When we arrive the the waitress asked if we wanted water and we said yes (we gotta stay hydrated bby). She then proceeds to bring us WATER BOTTLES and glass cups with ice. It wasn't until after we got the water that we saw on the menu (a single menu stuck on the table btw) that they charge .50 for water and for each refill. I get it .50 is not that much but the last I checked (which I did), by law restaurants that serve alcohol require to have free water available. And also it wasn't even good water, like if it was Fiji I would understand. but it was that cheap stuff deer park or whatever. We then ordered our food and proceed to wait 1 hour and 45 minutes!!! The waitress never came to check on us and bring us more water or to update us on the food. After about an hour we called the waitress over and she rolls her eyes and say "what". We ask (politely btw) when the food will be out bc it was taking forever. She said "probably another 30 minutes idk". Like ish what? We ask why this was the case since there were only 4 other customers in the whole restaurant. They claimed it was because of the high amounts of takeout orders. Many of my friends work at restaurants and they all said how they should not have been prioritizing takeout over us. Especially since we made a reservation! At one point i was convinced that the food was coming directly from Thailand, but honestly it probably still would've gotten to us quicker if that were the case. We finally got our food brought out one at a time with 5 minutes in between each. The food itself was pretty good but I've honestly had better. Any cheap mall Thai place would've been better. Because of the long wait we decided to ask to speak to the manager which hey lucky us was the rude woman we dealt with over the phone. So as you can guess she was still rude and gave a rock's butt about us. She told us that it was our fault for making a reservation for such a "busy time of day" and on a popular day (Valentine's Day). If making a reservation during that time was such a problem why wouldn't she just have told us when we called. We asked if she could at least give us the $1.00 of water for free and she said no. In the end, Ty Thai is the best place to go to if you want to sit for 2 hours and think about every terrible thing about yourself while your hunger slowing eats you within. As each minute passes without food you and your date will be able to analyze each pimple and weird wrinkle, and slowly fall out of love by the end of the night. Some recommendations I have to pass time as you wait are: watch the entire 9 seasons of the office, rewrite a copy of the KJV on rock tablets, grow out your leg hair, or even move to Thailand, learn how to cook the food, get a business degree, go to culinary school, open a restaurant and serve ya dam self.
This has been a review by a gen z, NOT and I repeat NOT a Karen. Have a good day, except the 2 girl workers at Ty Thai.
Made a reservation morning of for 6 people at 6pm (only ended up being 5). The woman on the phone was extremely rude and when I asked if I could make a reservation, you could practically sense her rolling her eyes as she gave me the worst attitude and unfriendly responses. And I totally understand that it’s Valentines Day and it’s going to be busy, but if that were a problem, she did not have to take my reservation. We get here 5 minutes before 6 and we’re seated right away. First, the waitress asks if we want water and we all say yes. she brings out bottles of water and did not tell us there is a $0.50 fee for water (refills also cost an additional $0.50). We order almost immediately after and an hour passes. At 6:55 we ask if the food is almost ready. The waitress says it will be another half hour and we ask why and they said that there were takeouts and it was busy, meanwhile there are only a few other tables seated and they should not be prioritizing take out orders when we made a reservation. They could have even warned us that it would take awhile or at least apologize. Never coming back. (i’m not a karen, i’m gen z)
update: talked to the manager and she was super nasty. I tried being polite and understanding of the situation but she did not react kindly and instead yelled at me for bothering her with my complaints. (ALSO, I have worked in the restaurant industry for over three years. I am more than understanding of awful customers and I get annoyed at them too. But this woman handled herself completely inappropriately and that is not the way to conduct business or get repeat customers. just awful service overall, only go if you don’t mind waiting for hours and getting yelled at by a mean and lonely looking individual.
If I could have, I would have selected 0 stars. I had one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. We had reservations, but we waited over an hour to get our food. Our waitress did not come to check on us once until we asked about the status of the food. We would have understood if they said something at the beginning, but there was no warning. Before we could even ask for a drink, we were given water (that we had to pay for). We definitely will not be coming back here.
First place I ever tried Thai food. Only place I'll eat Thai food. Great food. Great prices. Nice interior decor. Nice employees. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Great food and service!
Delicious food! Service was a little slow not not too bad. I'd definitely go again.
The food is amazing!
Great service, best pad thai in the area, fried ice cream is a must. Make sure to start off with the veggie trio
Everyone is always super nice... Now they're on Uber eats too... Check it out
Awesome food
And great service
Hidden gem. Well prepared, well seasoned, well served food. If you like thai, or not sure, you need to try this place. Especially keen to the mango dishes. Great atmosphere. Covid safe
The food was good, the restaurant was out of staff and the service was to slowly.
Food was amazing. Service attentive. Would highly recommend.
So grateful Ty Thai opened their dining room! The place was nearly empty when I met a friend there for dinner, but many folks stopped in to pick up food while we were there. The food was delicious and attractive (I got the spicy teriyaki chicken), and I was so glad to be able to see the waitress's friendly face through her face shield instead of a mask...it really made a difference.
Food had no taste, waitress was snarky. Been a customer for over a year. Lost my business!
Samosas and Thai iced tea were amazing.
Best Thai in Lynchburg!
Delicious food!
