Casual, contemporary cafe with vast variety of Southeast Asian classics, plus sushi & Chinese food.
Went here for a quiet birthday dinner on a Tuesday about 6pm. We were the only folks dining in when we arrived.
We loved the mix of Asian cuisine on the menu including curry, noodles, rice, and plenty of vegetarian options.
We got two curry dishes and a rice and noodle plate. We also tried their spring rolls and edamame.
I’ve lived nearby for 2 years and this was our first time here and honestly it was so good!
The flavors of each dish were incredible. The service was good and we felt safe in the restaurant with COVID rules being observed.
Keep in mind each dish we ordered was good for 2-3 people and our part of 4 had PLENTY of food with the appetizers we ordered and the 4 dishes.
Also, we had already ate half of our food before
I took pictures because it was so good!
Basically the same thing as Sushi Ya (in Draper and Provo). Most of the menu is identical. Sushi Ya is a little bit better overall - slightly better rolls, nicer building, more experienced staff. Prices about the same.
Overall this is a quantity over quality experience. The only reason to really come is the buffet. Overall the sushi is fine, but not great. Rolls are pretty basic. None of the rolls really stand out, but it's about $16 for all you can eat (lunch price). So the quality of rolls probably on par with $3-4 dollar rolls. You get what you pay for.
(A year ago) The service was good and the restaurant clean. I got the green curry and it tasted like they poured a whole bag of sugar in it. It was sickeningly sweet. I really don't care for the taste of other items I've tried in the past either, especially compared to other local Thai restaurants. I probably won't be back.
Feb 18, 2020 - I had a craving for pho, but didn't want to travel too far from work. I decided to give this restaurant another try. It wasn't bad, really. While I've definately had better, it did satisfy my craving and was good. I also ordered the pork eggrolls. They were a bit oily/mushy on the inside, which I normally don't like, but the flavor was good and the outside wasn't that oily and very crispy - so I think it balanced out. Since I found something I liked, I updated my review and rating. I think I'll be back to try some other things at some point.
This restaurant recently changed to a sushi bar with an all you can eat option. I chose this option and went with the dinner menu although I was there at lunchtime. I did this to get access to their entire menu. I ordered a few nigiri and two rolls. I ordered a roll with spicy tuna in it to see how they handles this offering. In my opinion, many sushi places add more heat than is needed and it overwhelms the fish flavors. I realize heat in food is a subjective thing. I felt the spice level was a little high in the lovers roll. The rainbow roll was good, not smothered in eel sauce but had it to the fish was still the highlight of the roll. The nigiri were good, the ratio of fish to rice was good, especially for an all you can eat option. Many all you can eat sushi places give you a golf ball size lump of rice and a tiny bit of fish. Not here. The place was clean and the decor eclectic. Service was efficient and polite. I would have preferred hot tea but was told they didn't have this. Don't know if they offer beer or wine
This is a nice quiet location. Their curry is really good - although the bamboo pieces were a little too thick for my licking. Their table service lacked a little. We were constantly asking for more water and it took a while to receive more rice. The flavors were in excellent and the atmosphere was relaxing. I would recommend this place to my friends.
Very good!
The sushi is fresh. And the service is great.
Average sushi and service.
Oh my yum. Wish I had one of these up in my hometown. Their food was so good can't wait till I get another chance to eat some more.
Great all you can eat Sushi!

Horrible service and bad food don’t go here beware

Absolutely love the taste of their curry! I just stopped at their location and it’s longer it. If anyone knows new location please update me?
Delicious! But don't be fooled- the green curry is not as hot as they say!!
I absolutely love the food here and they give you extra chili oil to spice it up. The curry is the best in Utah!
Very yummy, unfortunate that they are closing!
Really good but the hot and sour is not what you think not my favorite soup there
Good food, I haven't had a lot of Thai but the Drunken Noodle dish we got was flavorful and the price was reasonable.
We have enjoyed this place through the years. The Tom Kha Soup is divine! So fresh! One of the best I've ever had. The yellow and massaman curry dishes are wonderful! Pad Thai is good. My wife ushally gets the walnut shrimp. It's too sweet for me, but she loves it.
Average Thai Food. Quantity was really great but the flavor isn't up to par with some of the other Thai places I have been to.
I'm on a liquid diet for a procedure and I got some egg drop soup from here. Now I was hungry, like really hungry, but the egg drop soup was SO good. I did try the Massaman Curry sauce and it was yummy. I can't speak to the other items ordered because I didn't have any of it.
Appetizer sampler was good, coconut soup has way too much sugar, massiman curry also too much sugar and weird flavor, drunken noodles were pretty good but also very sweet. My favorite Thai place doesn’t use a lot of sugar and lets the unique mix of flavors speak for themselves. Staff was nice.
If you like the coconut dish flavor, the yellow curry is delicious! It’s a very mild (not spicy) curry, and has a savory Thai coconut sauce; served with rice.
For dessert their sticky mango rice is AMAZING! Chunks of mango with a sweet coconut dessert sauce over rice. Delicious!
Worst food and worst service ever.
Low quality food.
I couldn't finish my food because there was so many sand and little rocks.
I wasted my money. Don't order sea food from here.
Never going back to this restaurant.
Great food. Most lunch meals are under 8 bucks. This is going to be a weekly staple.
Update... 2 years after eating here a minimum of once per month. I still love this place.
Nice restaurant with good staff
Fabulous experience. Food is always fresh and made to order! Highly recommended!

Surprised to find a thai place in this corner of the valley with such good food. Both dishes were great and the portions were good. I'll be back!
The chicken seemed old. The curry sauce it self was good, but the meat just wasn't edible. I ordered the yellow curry. I have had it at multiple thai places in the area and would not recommended Thai Basil.
Love the food here. Great place to eat.
This was my favorite place for Thai food. Last time I went it was terrible. We left without even ordering. It looks like they are under new management and that hasn't been good for them.
Really good Thai food
Their food is generally very good. Couple instance with excess salt but their service is generally good.
I've had better Phu the pot stickers were okay..
I love this place so much!! The food is amazing!!
Perfecty delicious!
Yum yum in my tum tum
One of our family favorites! The food is amazing and we love the owners! Such wonderful, caring people!
Great food and excellent take out options. They make it very easy to order and pre-pay online, and there is a division between staff and customer lobby, making us feel safe for contactless pickup. Their Pad Ki Mao and Singapore Noodles are some of my favorites.
Great restaurant. Worth going back.
meh
Their food is quite yummy. Good variety too, and they do online orders for pickup.
Good food
Food was delicious and came quickly, good atmosphere and kind service
Amazing food!!!
Always good food. We love the Sweet and Spicy calamari, PAD THAI is our daughter's favorite. Great service.

This place is my go to! The Pho is second to none and the staff are extremely friendly. Never had a bad experience and the food is delicious. Great food and the kids love their chicken lowmein. Highly recommend!
I went here for a work lunch and felt a little confused. The restaurant is titled Thai Basil, but the lunch specials offered Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, and Thai dishes. Furthermore even if you order a Thai curry lunch special it comes with a Chinese soup... For me Thai soup is the best. For me Tom Ka or Tom Yum are better than any Chinese soup. I guess if you were with a very indecisive group this may be a good option, but for me I go to a Thai restaurant to eat Thai food. Furthermore it makes me wonder how good the Thai food is if they don't specialize in Thai food.
I had heard from a number of people about the Pho at some nearby Thai restaurants, including this one. I also am a bit of a Pho enthusiast and my curiosity was piqued hearing people order Pho at Thai restaurants since I eat Pho (at real Vietnamese Pho restaurants) at least 3-4 times a month. Being more of a purist I couldn't see myself ordering Pho at a Thai restaurant. This made me google it and I found out that most Pho offered at Thai restaurants is actually Thai Boat Noodle soup. This made me give it a try here at Thai Basil and .... it wasn't Thai Boat Noodle soup.... it was traditional Vietnamese Pho. It was fine, but not as good as what I would get if I went to a Pho restaurant.
Overall my soup was fine. I didn't try their Curries or Chinese food so I can't comment on them, but I would say if I wanted Pho I would go somewhere else. If you want to know where you can always check my other reviews.
Great food. We have been coming since they opened. Menu needs streamlining to make it less confusing. Friendly staff. Good variety of food.
So, some pros and cons to this place. I've been here 2 times on Saturday afternoons for reference.
Pros-
It has nice decor.
The food tastes good.
You're seated quickly.
The food is prepared relatively quickly.
Cons-
The wait staff were in jeans and a t-shirt both times.
It was difficult to get the attention of our waiter to get the check both times.
I was able to watch the "mango lemonade" be made by our waiter by them pouring mango syrup into the cup, and then using soda fountain lemonade to fill it the rest of the way. Not blaming the waiter for this, but I didn't want to see that, and I don't think most people would.
The second time I went there the yellow chicken curry gave me intestinal distress.
Prices seemed a little bit higher than expected for the kind of food and service provided.
I don't care how the wait staff dresses, or if I see my lemonade get made. But the lack of thought that has gone into the front of house makes me a bit nervous about how the food is kept and prepared.
It was meh... would probably be better if i was drunk or high (i don't do either so...)
Amazing food and get service.
Great food and nice atmosphere. I highly recommend the food. Pretty terrible service. No drink refills, no checking to see if anything else was needed, no check brought to table and had to return multiple times with to go boxes. There were only two in our party and the restaurant was about 5/8 full.
The service was good and the wait was not too long. But the taste of the food was a bit weird, as the Massaman curry tasted sour and was too watery, and Pad Thai tasted a bit old. Overall the food was not close to Thai food but instead closer to Chinese.
It was decent Asian food. A bummer that they don't have sushi any more
They have a good pho. They are very fast at bringing your food.
Best coconut milk soup anywhere. A little price but food is good and portions are ample.
We ordered a large pick up order on a busy day (Saturday after Thanksgiving) and everything was ready and hot exactly when we wanted it.
Over all the food was good, here’s what we ordered and how it rated:
Gyoza- very good definitely getting again
Cream cheese wontons- very good definitely getting again
Egg rolls- good
Vietnamese spring rolls- disappointing. There was too much lettuce, not enough noodles and we couldn’t find any fresh herbs that are supposed to be in there. Also the dipping sauce was ho hum.
Pad Thai- good, not the best pad Thai I’ve ever had but solid and will probably order again
Panang curry- very good and a good spice level. I thought it was medium and my husband thought mild. I could eat a good portion and not feel like my mouth was going to fall off. Definitely getting again.
Orange chicken- good pretty typical orange chicken
Bon Bon chicken- okay
Beef lo mein - good
Wok fried ginger pork- very good definitely getting again. Great flavor and also a good mix of veggies.
Beef and broccoli -very good getting again
Pineapple fried rice - very definitely getting again
Like I said overall the food was good. Typical Chinese American style food, good Thai ones. Next time we order I think we’ll get more curries and Thai noodle dishes. Just really disappointed in the Vietnamese spring rolls especially since they’re a favorite of mine.
Good atmosphere and food.
Great food, great service, and fantastic portion sizes. There is enough food for lunch the next day.
Their Thai green curry is like a dessert. My daughter likes their sushi. I go here whenever I can!
So yummy
I have enjoyed the food there when I am in town. The Pho broth should have been a little richer but I love their soy chicken.
Always a good spot for yummy Thai food.
Not the greatest Thai I've ever had. The Massaman was strange, it was zesty like it had something citrus in it. And the satay was basically grilled chicken, not much(if any) flavor. I'll likely never go back.
Wow! What an amazing menu. The food was fantastic!
Rica la comida vegetariana
I always order takeout from here. What I love the most is that the staff is friendly and accommodating to any modifications you need. Their fake chicken is delicious ( coming from a meat eater) and their dinner portions are huge. The flavor is consistently good.
Very good food, great vegetarian options, gluten free options, clean, fast service
Mediocre flavors. Terrible service. We basically had the place to ourselves on a Friday evening, which makes sense, considering our experience. Our server was unobservant and short with us. We thought she forgot our appetizer until it showed up near the end of our meal. We didn't have any silverware for several minutes after our food arrived... until we walked to the back and asked the chef for them. The Tom kha soup was pretty good. The curries were middle of the road. The chicken satay and peanut sauce were below average. The pad that was ok. The mango sticky rice was some of the worst I've had. But the service takes the cake. It was truly terrible, which is especially upsetting since there was basically no one else there most of the time. We won't be back.
Very good food, I loved the sesame chicken
Great food and service!!! The Thai coffee is wonderful
Great food! The service waa a tiny bit slow- I would give it 4.5 stars. This was our first time here. I got the Chicken Katsu and Mango Sticky rice. My husband got the combination red curry. Everything we ordered had great flavor! We will be back!
Standard Thai food, nothing special. Be wary of Asian restaurants offering all types of Asian cuisine. Jack of all trades, master of none.
Good food and decent prices.
The service here is terrible. I can't say anything positive about it from the minute we walked in to the minute we walked out. Staff seem to be teenage kids who seem to have had no training at all. Very unprofessional and very inattentive. The food I ordered was not very good, the food my wife ordered was decent so overall I would say the food was OK. Our bill came out to $31 dollars for two meals and a $3 appetizer. If the service was OK I would have left unhappy and never returned but the combination of terrible service, mediocre food, and high price for what it is make me leave a bad review.
The food is amazing and service is great, try it out
Thai basil is the bomb!
They got my order wrong! But the food was pretty good!
Food tasted nasty. Couldnt get a refill if your life depended on it. Wont be back. Bad service the waiters were to busy eating and not helping customers.
Went for lunch. Had the yellow curry, pad thai, and sesame chicken. All were excellent!
Great food but service is a little slow. Takeout might be the way to go if you're too hungry and impatient (aka "hangry").
Excellent food and service
Huge menu, great food!
The food tasted good, although the mango chicken didn't have much of a mango flavor. The staff seemed to be more interested in their phones and the TV than actually providing much service.
My wife and I ate here one night. We will be going back. The service and the food were great. It was not busy (which we couldn't understand). It was clean. And it was a good value, not too much money for the product. Everything we ate was tasty. We're pretty picky when it comes to Thai, but we were happy.
Food was good but nobody came around to refill water or bus all the dirty tables around us.
Love this place the food is the best love the pho
Ho hum. I don't mean to be overly critical of restaurants because at the end of the day, they're like me just trying to make a buck. Sawadee is the standard for Thai in the Valley in my opinion, that's all.
Excellent food!!
Pretty good tom kha. Surprised it wasn't busier.
I have eaten here several times in the last few weeks and have been really impressed by the food. I've had the Yellow Curry which is very flavorful and has a little kick to it. You can't go wrong with the Orange chicken, my kids love it too. And I just tried the Masala. Wow! I am going to be back over and over to this place.
This is a nice place. Depending on the crowd it seems very intimate and quiet. I have only been during lunch. The lunches are wonderfully tasty.
New fav Thai place. Massaman curry chicken was a lil too sweet but very delicious. I look forward to trying other menu items. :)
Pad tai, and ham fried rice were awesome
The food was actually pretty good and the server was very kind.
This is a hidden gem. People who eat here are usually regulars. The portion sizes are fantastic and the food is always fresh. I know it's also popular for sushi but I haven't been in for sushi in a long time. The pho is great every single time. You definitely will not leave hungry. The staff is really friendly and accommodating.
The food was actually really good, but don’t come here unless you’re willing to wait a long time for your food and you’re okay with having an inattentive waiter. It wasn’t that busy when we got there on a Saturday at 6:00 pm, and we dealt with 3 different waiters. Between the 3 of them, you’d think they’d be able to take our order, get our food and drinks, and bring us a check. The first waiter got our drink and appetizer order, but he never came back for our dinner order. After we had long finished our potstickers (which were really tasty) a second waiter came and got our dinner order. Then we watched as all the tables around us who got there after we did got their food. Finally my husband got his food, but I didn’t get mine until after my husband was done eating his food. A third waiter came and asked us how we were enjoying our food, to which I replied I never got mine. She said she’d follow up for my food, but I never saw her again. Several minutes later I got my food. We were quickly ready for a check so we could leave (we’d been there an hour already) and I saw another table walk to the front and ask for her check, so I followed suit and did the same thing, as it was clear we had been forgotten.
It is unfortunate the service was so bad, because the food was really good! Despite me and my husband having eaten separately...
Took one bite and knew if i took more i could never eat Thai again. Terrible food! Do yourself a favor don't waste your time or money.
It took a while to get the food but it was good. The employees were nice the restroom needs some cleaning
Lily was our server and she was super sweet!
My husband and I got the orange chicken and the chicken/beef pad thai. I didn't think the orange chicken was worth the price and, though I liked the pad thai, my husband didn't.
I don't know if I'd visit again.
Fantastic food and quick friendly service
Thai Basil is a great place in Riverton if you want some quick Asian food at a decent price. We've had the pho, katsu chicken, appetizer sampler, Thai iced tea, pad Thai, and curry and it's all been pretty tasty with no drama. The interior is nice and comfortable with nice music.
Thai Basil has consistently great food and customer service whether you're dining in or taking out. The portions are generous and they offer a sushi menu. The atmosphere is casual, warm and welcoming and everything is cooked fresh so there is a slight wait but definitely worth it.
get the Tom yum soup..legit
Love the soy chicken options!
When we walked into the restaurant the first thing we noticed was how casual the employees were dressed. We thought it was interesting, and honestly I would have liked a more professional atmosphere. We waited a long time to get our food and had to finally ask the to box it up because we needed to leave. I don't know if they were short-staffed or were just behind and unprepared for the lunch rush. The food was good, though. We'd like to go back and try their all-you-can-eat sushi. The experience wasn't horrible, just inconvenient. The employees were nice, even though it was more relaxed.
Delicious food with generous portions, but severely understaffed so be prepared to wait.
Great little local restaurant, good food and clean.
We are vegan and live in Long Beach CA, so every time I come home for the holidays we go here atleast 5 times! They have AMAZING vegan food—literally dream about it all year—and that’s saying a lot because we live in the vegan capital!
This place is wonderful. Great service and excellent food. We will be back soon!
Excellent service and wonderful food. We had the Orange Chicken, Honey Walnut Shrimp, Beef Pho, Panang Curry, Gyoza dumplings, Chicken Skewers, and Cream Cheese Wontons and they were all absolutely delicious! The Panang Curry was creamy, sweet and savory, and just heavenly. If you haven’t been here, give it a try!
I was warned against this restaurant, but their green curry tasted normal (i.e. good) to me both times I had it. However, I just tried their red curry today and it is probably the worst-tasting curry I have ever had of the many varieties I've tasted. A little too sweet and tasting vaguely of fry sauce or something similar. I might come again for the green curry, but if trying new menu items is hit-and-miss, I won't do that here.
UPDATE: The next time I tried the green curry I did not like it at all. No more of this place for me!
Tried a few different things. Pad Thai noodles and shrimp were way over cooked and stuck together. Beef lemongrass vermicelli the noodles were over cooked and mushy and the yellow curry lacked spice and flavor over all. Shrimp tempura was soggy and the chicken satay sauce tasted watered down. Pot stickers were really good. Egg rolls tasted like frozen egg rolls.. came here twice but probably won't be back.
Long wait times. Food was average.
We have eaten here twice now. The first time we weren't so impressed and prefer to go to other Thai restaurants, but this place is just so close we thought we'd give it another try this evening. We ordered panag, masaman, honey walnut shrimp, and pot stickers. I'd say all of it was good with the exception of the masaman which is shocking for a Thai place. The flavor was way off from what my wife and I are used to (kind of taste like eating perfume). Other than that the food was really good.
