Casual, compact eatery with a mix of Thai & Vietnamese staples, including curries & noodle soups.
Food is awesome here. The pad Thai is full of flavor. Pho is great. Can’t go wrong ordering the pho. The shrimp spring rolls lot of fresh vegetables and they aren’t skimpy on the vegetables. I love the fresh, cold lettuce, carrots and celery. My kid ate all of her orange chicken so that must be good cuz she is a picky eater.
Worst pho I have ever eaten ordered a combination Pho , old bean sprouts, some kind of meat that looks like thin brisket, almost didn't see the rest of the ingredients they where hidden under 3 huge jalapeno slices. Will never eat there again . The first pic is basil house pho the rest are Pho bo ne. See the difference? Last 2 are real Pho. Edit After ready new reviews I tried it again and even bought extra ingredients however it was the same terrible at least to me. I haven’t tried their other food so I can’t say anything about it. I think being the only pho in town is why people speak highly of it. I spent 19.00 on a bowl of pho and was very disappointed. Went elsewhere and spent 12.00 and had a great experience. New pics below. Second row from visit where I paid 19 for extra which I didn’t get. Bottom five is what I am eating now from Viet Saigon. I just want them to do better because the ingredients are cheap if they give a decent bowl for the money no problem but like I said being the only game in town means you don’t have to step your game up.
#1 Thai restaurant. Family owned. The B3, charred pork with rice is amazing. Nobody does it as good as them. The pad thai and pho is also very well done. They take care to have a clear and savory broth. Most dishes are very good here. I try and find reasons to go near Texas city to come here and eat. The restaurant is very simple and the family runs it.
Ordered the fresh garden rolls and beef lo mein was super happy with bothe the rolls were so fresh and great the veggies in it were crisp and and juicy lomein was great great flavor and size definitely pleased with my purchase
I originally rated 1 star for very poor service but since then I've tried it a couple more times and I've had fairly decent service. Food is tasty, price is fair, it's just the service can be hit-or-miss

Good place for pho
Fast and hot.
Taste was lacking.
I would go back tho.
The food here is so good and authentic. Yummy 😋
I really enjoyed the pork fried rice
This place has good food! But I don't recommend the curry. Not the best. But their drunken noodles are really good!
Either update your timings you don't take people in after 8:30, or take them in. The place was empty! Smells bad inside and out. Restaurant is not just about food, there should be a basic sense of hospitality, you are doing no one a favor taking their money and giving food, that is literally the purpose of the place, get your attitude under control maybe the place won't be that empty on a Friday night.

Food and service is great.
We have eaten here for years. The food is incredible. Today we came for a birthday celebration and the meal was ruined by the owner’s little children. They let their kids run wild the entire time. Screaming. Running around. Playing in the restaurant. We could not even hold a conversation. It was like a poorly run daycare. So disappointing. They never said ‘sorry’ or apologized. Terrible service. This was our favorite Thai and we will not return. If you walk in and see kids get your food to go. The owners just want to sell food. They do not care about customers or service. Sad.
One of my favorites!!

Green curry is a watery disgusting imitation of green curry. Remove curry from the menu if you can’t do it correctly. I’ve been to Thailand many times and had proper curry from restaurants all over the world. This is the worst interpretation. The store bought curry mixes are so much better! Another reviewer thought it was food coloring and I would have to agree. This place may be good for pho (what the other two patrons were eating) but I won’t return to find out. I know good pho places!
Amazing food. And keeping on always goin back... good portions. Never disappoint. Good good food
Dirty walls and an overall unclean establishment. I ordered green curry with a spice level of three. It didn't taste like green curry at all and I think they put food coloring in the dish to make it green. My wife ordered a grilled pork that was actually pretty good. They had their kids their banging on the tables and making a lot of noise. I had a headache by the time I left. Overall not a good experience, however, the pork was good.
found a bug in my drink they immediately took it seriously and offered to replace the drink. food always good.
Food was tasty!
I don’t recommend going to basil house. At least don't get the chicken soup. The soup tasted and smelled like straight up plastic. The chicken tasted like they just boiled it with just water like it had no flavor at all and it was rubbery.
Muy rico Pho.
I went there with my daughter this past Saturday. The man who greeted us was so kind. The food was delicious and we got a little extra entertainment while watching the Mardi Gras parade going down the road. 10/10 would and do recommend 👌
The facility was very dirty from tables to floor and walls. The food was band a not tasty at all the red curry I ordered did not come with coconut milk ( as posted) 1/3 of a pepper, a few bamboo shoots and tofu. I’ve never had curry so tasteless. I do not recommend that restaurant at all.
La comida es buenísima!!
Con madre
Great meal and great service.
Great dinner. Had the vegetable PHO, and drunken noodles.
Both very good.
I got a soup today and it was the most white washed unflavorful version ive ever ate. Ther was no galangal root, no kaffir lime leaves, no spice, no flavor. The mushrooms were wrong. It was just coconut broth with chicken regular white button mushrooms cilantro and green Onions which is not the way its ever been served to me at other places. It was not at all what o expected and tasted like it was made for white people who don't know any better but it was $12 and i will probably never be back here.
The food and service were good!
I definitely wouldn't want to eat in, but will absolutely take out again
Used to be good and fair price. Not sure what they did, but paid $78 for 4 take out plates and some egg rolls. 3 of the 4 were cheap noodle plates. EVERYTHING was nasty and had a burnt taste to it. Egg rolls were super dry and tasted burnt. Never knew it was possible to make fried rice taste this bad. Will never go back and don't recommend.
Easy parking good food. Can be a bit spicy .
.
Everything tastes so good, and the service is always fast and the atmosphere is very calming and peaceful.
Great food and service. Love the coconut soup
Food was delicious
Favorite restaurant in the area. The lettuce wraps and all the curry dishes are family's favorites along with Tail iced tea.
Place is awesome! All I can really say. Every time I come to Bay city I stop in.
Great food and even better service.
Good food and fast service. Great place for lunch.
I will start this review by saying I have lived in Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. Also my wife is from Thailand. While the flavor of the dishes were nice it is far from authentic. To me it tasted like someone who grew up in China trying to replicate Thai and Vietnamese dishes they had never had before.
The food is great! I love the lemon and mint noodles!
Horrible food. Will never go back.
Love the Curry
Very delicious
Update 2023: Basil House is still as amazing as ever! Their Pho is Phenomenal and honestly it's been the only thing to really help a cold when my throat is sore and I can hardly talk. Thank you for the amazing food & service!
I've been here several times after hearing about their springrolls on Facebook & I'll definitely be visiting more in the future! Along with their springrolls I absolutely loved their Pho and boba tea! My husband and kiddo also love their dishes, especially the shrimp ones!
Great food!
Fantastic authentic food. Told him he had to move to our town so we could eat there often. This will be our go to when ever we are in the area. Thank you!
Good East Asian lunch spot. 5/5 for what you expect from a mom and pop Asian lunch spot in Texas City
My husband had the (B2) Marinated grilled chicken with extra noodles. I had the beef lo mein (N5). We also had 2 orders of fresh salad rolls (K2). It was all so delicious! This is our 2nd time coming here. Athough the wait time might be a little long it is so worth it! My toddler absolutely loves it as well.
Great food and service.
Its ok, it is more Thai then Vietnamese and I dont like Thai. I got spring rolls, they were ok kinda blain, no meat in it at all which is not the normal spring roll. Lettuce wraps usually have chicken or tofu, this had bacon pieces and like old rice and egg in it. It was too salty and pretty much in-edible. They are pretty price for cheap food but I thought I would try and deff will not be back.
Very good drunken noodles
The food was delicious 🤤 we all had a great time. We had an order of 70$ it was a lot of food
I have been to Basil House 3x since I came to Texas in the past year. The first experience was great, I got the curry and it was delicious. I tried it again with my parents and got another kind of curry, it was ok. Last night I ordered carry out, orange chicken and crab Rangoon. The Rangoon didn’t taste right at all, the orange chicken was dry and the sauce was nothing special. My store bought brands are better. All my food tasted like it was cooked on a dirty grill and smelled like it too. I won’t be going back.
Business looks closed down. Have been once before & really liked it.
We just stopped by on a whim while in Texas City. It is our go to spot now. Soooooo good.
Service was very good and the food was incredible. Definitely a good hole in the wall place for authentic food.
Good food but not very friendly if your dark skinned. They only nice to light skinned individuals.
This place is truly a diamond in the rough, this is hands down my favorite restaurant in Texas City
I had a noodle bowl And it was great
I spend at least $9 a week here, I love Basil House. Spring Rolls with peanut sauce to go just hits different than pizza or chick FIL a 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 they doordash too
Everything was delicious
Good pho
Great service, amazing food! One of the best places I’ve ever eaten at, and I’ll definitely come back!
We regularly get to-go orders from here. The food is always fantastic. The inside shows it's age, but don't let that stop you from visiting.
The food was so good. The service was excellent. Nice little quite place. You order your food and it's out very quickly. Definitely recommend trying it if you have not already. If you have tried it then hurry up and go back 😁
So so. Not bad but not great.
I had Coconut tea milk and really enjoyed. The food really too healthy for me. Service was okay clean
The food was amazing! Highly recommend!!
Fresh and warm food. Loved the Red Curry Thai Rice.
Everything we tried was good they had an interesting assortment of Vietnamese, Thai and Chinese food will definitely be back stop by and give them a try
My favorite place in Texas City!
First there was today! Everything was delicious and fresh! The pho is really good.
We LOVE BASIL HOUSE!!!
Food is always fresh and delicious! Yum-yum....
Very good food! My boyfriend and I got the yellow curry. Very filling!
This place is a gem in the dust and highly overlooked by people. I absolutely love their food.. Everything I've tried, even the basic grilled dishes are extremely good. I've had Thai all over the states and one of the better areas was in South Puget Sound in Washington State. I ate at one near FT Carson in Colorado when I was stationed there but it wasn't as good as this one in Texas City. Prices are great, portions are perfect.. Do not drive past this place, give it a try.. Have a Thai iced tea if you haven't had one before. I've met a handful of random folks going in there and it's a family owned and ran business. I've found myself dining in at around 8:30 and my wife and I were basically sitting next to the family that owns it eating dinner while they had their family dinner getting ready to close up shop. Awesome experiences, I love this place and only hope and pray they will stay in TC. Give them a try! You never know, I've been an avid customer since retiring from the US Army.
Thought I should add this note, My wife took my keys one night.. I wasn't aware and I ordered dinner to pick up before they closed. I couldn't arrive there so the owner offered to drive and deliver it to me at my house. He's not a very talkative fella in shop but very kind hearted, so don't take that as a sign of being rude. He ended up leaving the food at the front door for me in several bags for my wife to grab on her way home.
This is absolutely the best Thai and Vietnamese food in the whole Galveston area. Worth the drive over to Texas city. I highly recommend the basil house lemon grass and also the yellow curry with prawns.
Hidden gem! Great place for lunch the Pho is definitely my favorite
Food very good and people nice
Highly recommend this place.
Swift customer service and delicious authentic Thai dishes. I highly recommend the spicy Thai fried rice.
All the food is great!! The Soups and Pho plus the spring rolls are the best.
Another awesome visit to this hidden gem around the corner from home. We will be back again.
My first time ordering from the Basil House. My favorite is chicken Panang curry with white rice. I have had this meal at about 2 dozen or more Thai restaurants in the past. The Chicken was tender but the Panang curry sauce was nothing like any other I've had before. It tasted more like a really spicy red cashew curry. More like Chinese food than Thai. I was not impressed.
Always good!!
Husband and I came here for lunch. Wasn't able to take more than 2 spoons of the hot and sour soup. I was not for me. I ordered the pad Thai and disappointed is an understatement . I couldn't eat it. It was a soggy mess and tasted just like the hot and sour soup. My husband had a chicken plate and the chicken was burnt.
I was heading back to my hotel from Galveston and wanted Thai food and saw this described as a hole in the wall type restaurant. Well those are the best because the food was great. I walked in and sat myself and about 5 minutes later the one person working in front took my order. I asked for it spicy but not too spicy and it was perfect! The waiter was fairly friendly, not rude. Overall if you are looking for a spot to get good Thai food try this place!
Tolles Essen
Traditional home made. Little plates but great flavor.
Best Asian cuisine I've had in a long time and by far the best in it's area. I highly recommend trying the creamy red curry with stewed chicken or beef.
Very good for a take out dinner
Got three dishes and all tasted great, large portions too
Nice fragrant meat. However burnt. Not edible. Bitter taste. $31 for vermicelli "burnt meat" noodle added shrimp and egg rolls . One order of appetizer. So hungry and very sad. Tossing it to seagulls.
Enjoyed my food
Good food reasonable prices and excellent service.
Restaurant was clean.
The. Best. Pho. around! Highly recommend it. Delicious!
Clean restaurant, delicious food, and friendly service.
Wonderful food!!! My first time!
I love this place I always get their grilled chicken the number B 2 is awesome and the owner is very very nice.
The food was great and the service was great as well. My first time with a friend and the prices were great as well. Not expensive. They give a great little soup with the meal.
Sam has been making great Thai food for a long time
Delicious!!!
Nice and cozy. Great family run place.
A few dishes are true Thai cuisine, and good (they also got some Laos, Chinese and Hmong dishes).
I like the food but the portions aren’t good. I get the Spicy Thai Chicken with Fried Rice and it came with little chicken and a ton of rice. It was good don’t get me wrong but overcompensating the lack of chicken with rice bothered me.
Excellent food every time. Servers are always very nice.
I'm working my way through the menu, but there are many great things to choose from! Dinner ar happybhpir... I'm in. Check out Basil House. Come with an appetite!
Their dishes there are delicious and the restaurant is clean service is good
We went for the pho and were very satisfied with the price, taste. Will be returning for more soon.
Best place to eat spring rolls pho soup grill chicken or pork over rice etc
They're food tastes amazing. We got Beef curry, Pas Thai & imperial rolls. Everything was wonderful.
Yum Yum
Awesome pho.
Really good food, pretty quick service, portions are big and filling. Milk boba tea is incredible.
Great food every time
Good food decent prices. the curry was great I recommend yellow curry and my wife recommends the spicy red curry with chicken. We will go back and recommend
Try the Thai Hot & Sour Soup.
We ordered a meal through the grubhub app. When it arrived we were missing one whole item and half of another. When i called, the man who answered tried to tell me that peanut sauce does not come with the satay skewers any more. Then said the other menu item was no longer on the menu and that I would have to contact grubhub because they were not affiliated with the delivery service. When I pressed him, he grudgingly said I could come up there to get the peanut sauce. We are never going or ordering from here again. Don't lie to customers and don't pass the buck. Grubhub however was very helpful in getting our refund.
Ordered Pho soup and I was so disappointed in the taste. I couldn’t get past the 3rd taste and I became nauseous really quickly. Bottom line it was nasty and it has a foul taste to it.
Great local food
