One Stop Asian Restaurant for any events
Food was okay. Waiter was really nice. We were visiting from out of town.
We originally came here for the hibachi, but it was not available for lunch on a Friday, which was disappointing. We still ordered hibachi off menu, but it seemed pricey for not having the show and it definitely did not taste as good. They didn’t have homemade hot mustard sauce and the ginger sauce tasted a little off. We also ordered the tempura appetizer which was nice and crispy.
Overall, the food was just alright, but not worth the price for not having actual hibachi available.
Short wait for a table with drinks and appetizers ordered right after being seated. Food served hot right after appetizers are finished. Drinks reserved with fresh glass and ice, empty glass removed. Ordered three entrees for the two of us. Entrees are huge. Food was excellent! Five drinks total. The waitress was very attentive but not intrusive. The expense with the tip was reasonable.
This restaurant has so many variety of Asian food, they have sushi, they have Chinese, they have hibachi grill, variety of sake and margaritas. The atmosphere is great, it looks beautiful inside out. On the way in is a beautiful koi pond with lots of fish. The sushi is really fresh.
I don't have any pictures because I thought I've reviewed them before. We've eaten there 3 times, takeout once.
Overall, we've tried the sushi, hibachi, their entrees and a few appetizers. The monkey brains are really good. The sushi is good. I loved the soft shell crab. But overall, I think the favorite was when my husband ordered the Creamy Walnut Shrimp. .
Next time, we'll probably do sushi again, and I'll take pictures. But overall, haven't been disappointed yet
I didn't rate the food as I never got to try it. We were told that they are basically ready to serve us and just hold on for a minute. That minute ended up being amongst one of my longest minutes of my entire life. After 30 minutes of waiting we just left. 45 minutes after the initial arrival we got the call that they are ready.
I would have appreciated the honestly upfront so that I could have gone to a gas station and gotten a water or decided that the wait isn't worth the time and leave.
Food was nothing special. Waitress did keep our drinks filled. Bunch of sushi Cooks in the background shouting periodically, did not find that enjoyable. Waitress put her on tip on the tab. I always tip but I like the freedom to choose the amount I think is appropriate.

Every time is better,
Everything is good, from food to drinks and atmosphere.

Hibachi Grill and fusion food. Sushi Great and recommend the Egg drop soup!
Food is ok sushi could be better but ok
Kevin was incredible, patient and kind. We will return after service like that, the food was a bonus!

This place has always been good. Serve and food is a must stop if you are in corpus. They are also willing to make dishes not on the menu.

Good rolls. Good service. The men’s urinals and toilet is worse than a construction site portapoddy. I don’t think they have ever once cleaned the toilets. Same with the sink and countertop, makes me wonder about the cleanliness of the kitchen.
This place is the best in Town.
Wow. Best Sushi and service!!!! I had a great experience. Thank y'all!
I usually enjoy this place but something changed. I went in last week and I am not sure if she was the owner or main manager but she helped herself to the bar to pour shots for her and her friend. I was sitting at the bar and just watching her go behind the bar and make a shot. The night manager came back and said he knows that she likes strong drinks and would make her a drink. In the meantime she is helping guests. While this lady was behind the bar she never made eye contact or asked the people if they need anything. Very poor service. Then she sits down with her back to me and pushes the menu towards me. During dinner a bug came off my plate. I asked for a box but threw it away. Also the same lady asked for another drink while just hanging out at the bar. The whole experience has me not returning.
This place has the best sashimi in the area!
Excelente variedad de platillos
Sushi was great, just like the service and atmosphere. It was a little on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for, and it was worth every penny.
5 stars all around! Had Hunan Beef and Chicken, egg roll, and egg drop soup. It was delicious! Service was fast to go.
Went there for birthday gathering. Where they cook in front of you. I love their fried rice. Sake Sake Sake. I had a great time.
Everything was great
Had peppered steak with fried rice. The people are so friendly and food was great
This was one of my favorite places yesterday I went and I ordered fried rice and it was greasy. I couldn’t eat it!! Then the waitress never came back so we could tell someone or for refills. For the money I paid the food should be good. I am extremely disappointed. Wil
I love this place. Their hibachi chef at the grill section had entertained us really well. He is super funny while making the food. All of the dinner he made in front of us were really good and it's worth of what my friend paid for. The steak and lo mein were blasted with flavors.
We had the best time celebrating our daughter’s 18th birthday with an amazing hibachi lunch! Eric and Chef Tyler were fantastic and provided laughs and entertainment for the whole family.
Had a blast, Ang was a really great server our glasses were NEVER empty. The atmosphere is real cool and they have a cute koi pond!
Great atmosphere and good. Waitress is amazing w customer service

Bueno
Kevin was an awesome server tonight!
And the food was good too!
I've been here many many times and it's just going down hill. ask for another server if you get Sabino. he was rude and dismissive and never checked on BOTH guests just one or the other when when would come by. miso was good but asked for the spicy one,.server couldn't answere.if it was hot chili oil in ther eor a whole.diffrent soup. my heart attack (tempura fried jalapeno with cream cheese and spicy tuna took 32 mins to get to the table and we sat for nearly 10 mins waiting on this app AFTER the food arrived. there's an entire page of sake for sale but they only had 4 of them available and again the server wasn't knowledgeable on taste prices or availability. the booth seats are very uncomfortable and cracking so they hurt badly if you have bare skin. it used to be so good there and hibachi show seemed lively but dining in used to be n amazing experience there too
The food is delicious!
The rolls went up in price drastically other than that it's good for a dinner outing. The pad thai is our favorite.
Sushi is the bomb. One of my favorites is the groot...
I and my girlfriend have been going to this restaurant for many years. Recently we went and the food was so “salty.” I even noticed that fried rice had too much salt. For having high blood pressure, I will never recommend this restaurant to anyone. I did speak to the manager about the food being too salty. Due to the high salt content, I felt miserable all night!
We have been going to this restaurant for years. My list visit was just fair. Food was somewhat bland, service was good. I think this restaurant needs to refocus on quality and cleanliness.
I LOVE coming here. I've been to many other sushi restaurants and this one has the best!
They used to be much better but still worth a stop by if you happen to be near by and want hibachi and sushi.
Great food. Quick service. Friendly staff. Social distancing is practiced, and sanitation is used. The hibachi section is reserved seating. Military discount is available.
I had never eaten here, but all turned out great. Egg drop soup was very good too
Food is okay kind of pricey used to love when the plates came in combos now it is not that way.
The food is always great here, and the bartender is superb!
The food was awful. It used to be good. Idk what happened. I can't remember the last time I disliked food this much. The fried rice was terrible and so was the creamy cashew shrimp. Even the cocktails were disgusting. I will not be returning. There are too many good options in Corpus to bother giving this place another try.
The food here sent my mom to the hospital. She is very, very sick. That day, the service was weird and they were rushing us out within 30 minutes of arriving. Some of the food we got was also very questionable, including the chicken, which we did not eat. Dissapointed in Takeniwa. If I could give 0 stars I would.
Bad service/Bad food.
Took family and friends (party of 10) for a Friday night dinner. Made reservations ahead of time due to party size. We were promptly seated for Hibachi style dinner at our reserved time. The server was fun and perfectly attentive to our groups needs and requests. The chef put on a great show for us and the food was cooked to perfection! Portion sizes were large- we have plenty of leftovers for a second meal! Overall, a great experience by everyone! Pricing, to include drinks and tip, averaged out to about $50 per person. Will absolutely visit again!
Great food , service is fun and great. We love going there.
Have always loved the food here, but went this weekend and it was terrible. Ordered pad Thai with beef but it had a pork smell to it. The waitress said they don't serve pork so I said maybe it's sauce. Idk. She let me order a different dish. I ordered the angel hair noodles with chicken, which I've had several times, but this was disappointing as well. Noodles were over cooked and they used too much of a sweet sauce. I couldn't taste the chicken or veggies, just sauce. My husband was also disappointed with the basic fried rice. He said it tasted like rice a roni. Maybe they got a new cook, idk but it was just all bad.
My husband and I had a wonderful experience here! The chef was extremely entertaining. The serving sizes are worth the price. We will be visiting again soon,
I actually have been back twice in three months...everything was simply AMAZING...
Our first time there and food was fantastic. Service was great. So much food, portions were enough for two people per entree. We will be back.
Food was amazing. The sushi was delicious and the service was very good.
If you love sushi come here
Short wait for a table with drinks and appetizers ordered right after being seated.
We went to Takeniwa last night and I was severely disappointed. Let me start by saying my family and I travel full time and have been to numerous Hibachi style restaurants around the country.
Upon arrival, the location itself is nice/clean looking. The hostess was fairly unfriendly. When our friends arrived we sat down at a Hibachi table. If we had not been with our friends, we'd have left after immediately seeing the absurdity of prices on the menu. Never have we encountered a Hibachi restaurant who charged $3 for fried rice! I got a steak/chicken at combo and it was $35. My husband got chicken that was $27. He opted for white rice because paying additional for something that traditionally goes with it seems like a scam.
When the chef came out, the first thing he did was put his hands on our 5 year old son's face? He then went to do it again, and we actually asked him to stop and he laughed???? We weren't kidding. Then, after he was done cooking.. and going to leave, he DID IT AGAIN?! Absolutely not okay. I cannot believe this even occurred.
The food was absolutely bland. I even watched him cooking it, I got fried rice and he barely seasoned or flavored it to the point there were clumps of white rice not mixed up in the fried rice. Same thing with the steak/chicken. I actually had to ask him for more sauce directly on my plate and it still didn't help. Also, surprised they didn't have "yum yum" sauce or ginger sauce where they give you it at the table. He had it and would put it on your plate if you asked, but the sauce itself left much to be desired. I always love even my Hibachi leftovers the next day and I am debating throwing them away, because they were just not good.
Again, we travel full time, this was the second Hibachi in the area we tried - Koi was the first and it was significantly better and much cheaper. I would highly recommend avoiding Takeniwa and going to Koi!
Great menu selections. Waiter staff exceptionally attentive.
Full time traveler here (@whatrvdoing). Go to Koi instead. We sat at the hibachi table with some friends. The good: soup and salad. The bad: first of all the cost. Had we not been with friends we would have stood up and left. They are $10 higher than every other Hibachi in the country. They also up charge $3 for fried rice or noodles. Everyone else doesn't. My Chicken Hibachi was $27 and my wife got the Chic. and Steak at $35. That is flat out absurd. Moreover, the Chef kept putting his hands on my son. I asked him to stop and he laughed. Then right as he was leaving he did it again. I think the manager or owner should reply to this post and comp. my families meal at the least for this disrespect. Battery is defined as applying physical force to someone unlawfully, resulting in bodily harm or contact of an offensive nature. Per google. Don't go here go to KOI.
Always fun to watch the food being made right in front of you. Service was very nice.
The taste of the food has always been delicious and the amount they service......I always have to bring half of it home, not complaining.
On our short visits to Corpus this is our go to take out/delivery restaurant. This is the best Suchi we have tasted in Corpus. The fish is always fresh and delicious. The Harumaki appetizer rolls and crab rangoon are always good. The shaggy dog and sexy beach are our favorite specialty rolls. I don't think you can go wrong trying anything on the menu!
Service was great food was nasty
Google says they're open until 10pm. Showed up at 9:02pm and was told they only allow to-go orders and dine-in after 9pm. Misleading.
My work team and I came for our christmas/white elephant gift sharing and we couldn't have picked a better spot. The atmosphere set the right mood for our rambunctious group! The apps, food, drinks were all on point. Last but definitely not least, our waitress was amazingly patient and very attentive to us!
Took a short getaway in the Corpus Cristie area. Wife is from Philippines. So we are already on the look out for good oriental food. We found a jewel here. The selection was great, as were the prices and portion size.
Upside:
Place clean, staff friendly and efficient. Area for groups, hibachi, good menu, bar drinks.
Downside:
Slightly pricy (dinner for 4 with sodas $117). Beef was fatty/chewy
Comments:
Review based on one dining experience. Would recommend going here.
John our waiter was very kind very nice fast with service and willing to go above and beyond his job description to make us happy
There were plenty of spots in the parking lot. We fined in during off peak hours so there were plenty of booths to choose from. Drink refills were fast. Server was very friendly. Food came out very quickly. The only thing I could say as a downside is that the sashimi was served in a wooden boat, which the presentation wasn't the problem, it was how quickly the sashimi got warm. Other establishments serve it on plates that are sitting on ice. It keeps the food cool and in my experience makes it taste better. Still very good dishes
The food was great, service too, and it was fast for a Sunday night . The only thing they need a Men's bathroom remodel. Was in poor condition.
Food too salty
Good food wayyyyy over priced though. Our plates were great and decent sized but only because they were full of onions and bell peppers I'll pass on the bland fried rice next time especially for an extra charge. Mixed drinks were awesome but expensive. Waitress was good. Over $100 for 2 plates and 2 mixed drinks though???
To describe our dining experience as disappointing would be a colossal understatement. Despite the considerable price tag of over $100, our visit to this establishment left much to be desired. The server appeared utterly clueless about providing adequate customer service. Our journey began with ordering appetizers, which were not only frozen but unmistakably tasted that way. Still, I maintained a glimmer of hope, thinking that perhaps the main courses would redeem this culinary misstep. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case.
My husband received his meal ahead of me, and while delays can be acceptable for meticulously prepared sushi, it became apparent that something was amiss. After 20 minutes, he had finished eating, and I was still left waiting. What's worse, both the waitstaff and the cooks seemed to have fixated their attention on me, and not in a welcoming manner. Their unspoken judgment cast a toxic cloud over the atmosphere, and I couldn't bring myself to consume the food that lay before me. Having worked in the industry myself, I couldn't overlook this complete lack of customer service.
The question that lingers is, what happened to the essence of genuine customer service? I had hoped for an enjoyable dining experience, but it seemed like a distant dream. Regrettably, I won't be returning to this establishment. I don't want to put all the blame on our server, as it's evident that they may not have had control over the back-of-house operations. Nevertheless, their service skills left much to be desired. I genuinely hope that future patrons will have a more positive experience, but as for me, I bid farewell to this place. Takeniwa... It's time to step up your game.
Nice place and great food.
we like this place a lot, the booths are huge. my kids love all the space. we learned the hard way that their drinks are very expensive, so we just go for the food.
Love the manager Eric he is like family now and always greets us with a smile. love the drinks ! Joe is amazing you haven’t had an amazing cocktail until you try Joes drinks and love the cooks the food is absolutely amazing!!!
The food was great, but the service was even better. Servers helped each other, the people at the hibachi grill where all laughs and great spirits. I'll definitely be coming back. Highly recommend 👌
It was my birthday my son took me there everything was delincuentes Great sushi bartender was soo frienďly & he made excelente drinks Great food Great food Great drikns
Great restaurant with good food, great atmosphere and great service
Very nice atmosphere with great service you would expect at high end Asian restaurant. All at table were happy with quality and selection of food. Only reason I gave 4 instead of five stars on food was the fried rice was a little dry and came with an upcharge. Perhaps should have stick with white rice.
Salmon sashimi fresh tasting and delicious. The Mexican roll is the best with ginger ... and an extra jalapeño. Oh my. .... nice atmosphere and staff. Ladies bathroom 🚻 was horrible. Come on owners... fix it up.
Food was horrible
Price went up, consistency issues with food, sometimes its great, others its almost unedible.
Wasn't sure if it was going to be worth it but it is! Best sesame chicken in corpus christi and stayed hot all the way home! It's worth the money if you want great food!
I went to this place years ago(to go order) and I didn't like it not even a little; I remember not eating my food. I gave it a try yesterday(to go order again) thinking that after so many years; maybe their food had change for the better..........ohhhhhh boy; I was wrong it was horrible; have not change a bit; the sushi which I think it's not that complicated to make; was ugly!!! And the other dish was soooooo salty; that I couldn't eat it. Only thing good...cashier was very nice and polite.
I guess I don't have good luck with this place. In other words...$40 into the trash!!!!
Typically I have a 5/5 star experience but this last time I went I made a reservation for 13 people and they didn’t seat us until the entire party was there (understandable) but when I got there to inform them everyone had arrived, they ended up seating the party that was supposed to be after us before us. I wouldn’t have had an issue with this but one of our guest was on his lunch and that put us back a WHOLE HOUR from our reserved time. We were all there before the party before us even got sat so I was confused as to why they still gave them our table. The server was amazing and attentive. The hibachi cook was entertaining as usual and we ended up have a great birthday dinner/celebration.
I must have come here on a off day or something. Normally the food is great but the last time I came here I was overcooked and chewy. Even the sushi was off, spent over 100$ for two people for subpar food. But don't get me wrong it's normally pretty good. I was disappointed this time. May or may not be back. Waiter didn't seem to care much this time, go to go boxes even our dogs wouldn't eat it...
Sushi rolls were fantastic. California crunchy roll was delicious.
The Habachi Presentation is just not worth it. Even the chicken was tough.
Be aware that they will share the Hibachi table with the other party, and we didn't like it. It changes the experience. It's not worth the money.
I eat here almost every week. Love the food and the service.
Ordered beef and broccoli and end up in the restroom even before I left the restaurant and all night long . I won't be back to this place again . Sorry this restaurant sucks 😕.
I'd never been, so I always get something basic at a new restaurant. The pineapple fried rice lacked flavor and seasoning. I was extremely disappointed, especially for what I paid.
Service was great but the food was not good. We were a party of 4 and every single one of us did not like our entree. The sushi was okay but definitely not the entrees
I love the Mexican Roll, it is fried for those that don’t like raw sushi yummy, customer service could use a little work but hey food is delicious.
This experience at Takeniwa has it all. Great atmosphere, attentive staff, amazing sushi (tropical roll is my favorite!) and beautiful, tasty drinks like the passion fruit mojito. PLEASE open a location on the island!!!
Great food forgot sauces or to ask what sauces we needed.
Good amazing food chicken teriyaki was amazing as well as the chicken yakotiry customer service was great packed my food for me no one was here when I was here and it was a clean quite little music atmosphere
Food ain't what it used to be, and not worth the price...
Best bartender! Best drinks! ☺️
My experience was overall very positive, the place is very inviting, clean, well kept. The service was a bit slow at times, such as it took more than 15 minutes to get my water. I was there 30 or so minutes after opening. I think they may have had just 1 waitress on the floor at the time, I believe she was just maxed out until more staff arrived.
My actual " woah" kinda disappointment was I asked for the hibachi grill. I did not mind waiting for a group but was sat a a normal table. I was by myself. I did not see any others sitting at the grill tables so I think they might not be open until the dinner crowd.
The clear soup was not available, and I did not want the salad. The waitress again was very sweet and brought me an egg roll. It was delicious. I ordered the tempura and the steak and shrimp hibachi with steamed rice. The steak and shrimp were very peppery and the rice was not that warm. The tempura was good but I am not sure what all it came with, and the sauce that comes with it tasted like a vinegar sauce. I did not like it as much as the yum yum and teriyaki which were both good.
I took pictures of the portions but for just me, and drinking only water it was almost 60$. Overall a good experience, but it seems very expensive per person especially for a lunch.
Used to be reasonably priced. Now too much for basic meal
Try the seaweed salad (it was slay)
The food was good, not great. The Hibachi show was good, not great. Called ahead for wait time of Hibachi and was told there was not much of a wait. When we got there we waited way longer than originally told and was told they were not doing Hibachi. Waitress seemed confused when asked why they did not have the Hibachi show. After the waitress spoke to the manager, they got us a Hibachi table soon after.
Great food and friendly service. Great drinks. The manager was very nice and funny.
Great place to eat, manager and staff were great. Our waitress was one of the better ones I've seen. We payed up for the food but there was alot of it. The place was nice and clean.
Had reservations made for my son’s birthday on a Saturday night, to secure my spot I was required to place a deposit of $168. It was a party of 17 people at the hibachi area. I received great service the moment we got sat down, from the two gentlemen attending us (the server and cook) the food and show was great. My only critique would be that the hostess could use a smile.
Wonderfully staff and great food. Will be returning!!
I tried the Yellow Monkey Roll and it was delicious with the Mango sauce, a combination that I wasn't sure about to begin with! Very nice staff!
Teppanyaki (cooking on table grill) is a great treat. The chef was skilled n food was good. However, my order from menu for dinner to go was subpar. The chicken was very dry. :(
Ate there for the first time. Great service, good food, well taken care of. Will return.
Good food. Mediocre service. Bar available. We had the garlic edamame - delicious with the perfect amount of garlic. I had the chicken pad thai - really good. I do wish they had tofu available for their food, but it wasn't listed as an option. My husband had the chicken curry udon noodles. He said it was ok.
