Authentic Thai Cuisine in the Heart of Austin, Texas
Amazing food, I always drove past this place, but it’s honestly a hidden gem, you need to try it out. Service was all right, the server just came up to us took our order and that was it until we needed the check.
Super casual place, with good food. Not as expensive as I thought, pretty affordable, which is a plus, of course!
Excellent! I highly recommend the Chicken Satay. It pairs so well with peanut sauce and the cucumbers and is DELICIOUS. The Pad Thai is yummy too, and so is the Basil Fried Rice although the basil isn’t as fragrant as other places (imo) but it was still good!! Yellow Curry tasted well too! The only downside was that the Tom Yum soup was a little salty.. but really really great customer service. Overall, really satisfied.
The Tai tea and food is delicious. Returned a couple of times just for the tea.
I've had great Thai in New Your Miami I grew up in Chicago Houston and San Francisco by far hands down the owner and his mom are amazing generous happy people that just want you to eat there outstanding food I own a restaurant 1000 feet from them I take dinner home twice a week. Thank you guy's. Go try please. Tell them Desmond from Downtown burgers sent you !!!!!!
Great food. We had the pad Thai, and soft spring rolls and sticky rice and it was all so yummy. The pad Thai was a HUGE serving. Would definitely come here again.
The food was delicious - I got Pad Thai with beef. The waitress was kind and attentive. Great experience!
THIS IS THE BEST THAI IN TEXAS!!!! If I am in Austin I absolutely will stop here, their food is killer!!! The only thing I’d say is be careful with the spice, even level 1 packs a little bit of a punch! I always order the Pad See-Ew and I highly recommend it. Enjoy :)
Good Thai food served quickly over lunch.
Impressed with the quality of the food!
Food is average and service non existent
Veggies were good. Both sauces - peanut n curry were VERY watery. Ruined both dishes
This is a mediocre Thai restaurant. I ordered the Tom Yum Soup with chicken and the Pad Kee Mao, also with chicken.
The Tom Yum broth was excellent, nicely seasoned, tasty, but the chicken was flavorless, added nothing, and took up a third of the bowl. If you do order it, make sure to order it vegetarian.
Before I even finished my soup, my Pad Kee Mao was rushed out to my table barely 5 minutes after I ordered it. The noodles were seasoned well and quite good, but the vegetables were basically raw, and the chicken was bland.
I would avoid Mai Thai it unless you are really in the mood for Thai.
One of my favorite Thai spots. Never too busy so usually can get food pretty quickly.
The coconut soup was good. But all of the entrees our party of four ordered had weak flavor and noodles were too hard / too Al dente. Bummer because we were hopeful. Plenty of other places to get food in Austin so I would not go back. I ordered the drunken noodle and it fell flat. Don’t remember what everyone else ordered but we all left half of our food and didn’t even bring it home.
I visited this restaurant as a part of a work event and this place was reasonable for downtown Austin and had a nice atmosphere where you could hear each other talk.
so wie sich der amerikaner thaifood vorstellt, essen nicht besonders warm und frisch
Amazingly friendly staff and wonderful dishes. The Pad-Se-Ew tastes great! Good Vegetarian options and very accommodating.
Ordered pad se ew today and it was really dry and hard to eat. Fresh rolls were amazing, I have ordered here many times but a little disappointed with the entree this time.
This is my favorite Thai in town. It’s in such a great location and I went years without knowing about it. Typically I order to-go and it’s always delicious. The staff were very kind the couple of times I dined in. I hate to sound basic but their pad Thai is amazing. I also love the vegetarian egg rolls!
Natty is the best waitress I’ve ever had 10/10
Incredible food and amazing service.
Amazining red curry!! I'm addicted. Service was topnotch.
A lesson in good self-care with *Amazing servers + Delicious Thai food*! As a 30+ year-old Nice Guy, I’ve treated women to dinner dates, but hadn’t felt what it’s like to be treated to a date! Part of my recovery from Nice Guy Syndrome is to start putting myself first and to take better care of myself. I did both at Mai Thai 😎. Located in the heart of downtown Austin, near Austin convention center and 6th Street night life, Mai Thai is a hidden gem! I originally found Mai Thai while searching for good Austin Thai food online for a dinner date. *And they do reservations, which is a nice touch!* This time around, even though I returned solo, I decided to make an online reservation for one to really enjoy the experience 😎. After driving downtown, I parked in a garage and walked over to the restaurant, which sits nicely upon a flight on stairs, tucked back on the side of San Jacinto St. Most people would miss it if they didn’t know it was there. Upon entering, I was immediately greeted by the hostess and felt good to be back 😎. It was a wonderful vibe for a Friday night. People from multiple cultures dinning together, talking, laughing, and enjoy the evening. I ordered the vermicelli with tofu, fried rice with tofu, and vegetarian egg rolls (I’m a vegetarian, if you can’t tell 🤣). To drink, I asked for a Thai tea and a smooth glass of pinot noir. My food was cooked fresh with quality ingredients, the most important being love. The egg rolls arrived first as the appetizer, creating the feeling of a 3-course meal. I enjoyed them with my Thai tea that was just the right amount of sweet. Then my vermicelli and fried rice arrived. It was so much food for one person lol 😂! Yet I loved caring for myself. The presentation of the each entree was on point, each plate was decorated with a colorful violet flower. I enjoyed my vermicelli and rice, while sipping slowly on my glass of wine, and it was a really beautiful moment to share with everyone in the restaurant. My wonderful server was curious and asked me why I was there by myself. With excitement in my eyes, I shared with her that I was putting myself first, and it touched her. With a caring heart, she and the rest of the staff treated me to a free bowl of green tea ice cream, completing all 3 courses 💜. She even included two chocolate dessert sticks that she dipped into the ice cream with a personal hand touch. I felt very moved by their generosity and am very grateful for their service & kindness. Love is truly the answer to most of the questions on our hearts. The night wrapped up beautifully. Groups of people exited a few a time. And finally it was my turn to say goodnight. I can’t wait to be back! Thank you to everyone at Mai Thai, I appreciate you all! P.S. The leftovers were delicious!
Very good but very spicy!! 😂 One of my favorites in Austin.
Love their curries & noodles
the first time i ordered from here i genuinely loved it so i convinced my bf to get it again. the pad thai and pad see ew we’re extremely dry with almost no sauce. tom kha was watery and salty. we got the golden cheese rolls which were supposed to be “bursting with cream cheese, scallions and mushrooms”. please look at the picture below and see if you can identify any of those ingredients. it was literally just egg roll wrapper. LAYERS of egg roll wrapper. with the worst sweet and sour sauce. honestly very disappointed because i did enjoy the first time i ordered from them
Don't get the golden cheese egg rolls, they are so small and barely have any filling, they were a 0/10. The pad Thai and pad see ew were very mediocre
It was most awful restaurant and ever been
My husband and I love this place! Staff is amazing! Food is sooooooo delicious! My husband loved the pineapple curry!
The food was fantastic and Brian, our server, did an amazing job during a full house of a night.
Service: 6/10, it was kinda awkward because after 20 minutes of sitting at our table with the menus, no one came to ask us what we wanted to order (I had to get up and ask). I also had to get up to ask for dessert. They were nice though and gave us more peanut sauce when we asked.
Green curry: 9/10 Pretty great! Exactly what I expected. Delicious.
Tom Kha: 4/10, tbh the worst Tom Kha I've had. Too watery and more salt-based. It was missing the spices it needed.
Water: 4/10, I normally don't rate this but the water they gave tasted funky. Luckily they were nice enough to offer bottled water ($1 each) and take away our glasses.
Soft spring rolls: 9/10, can't go wrong with this! It was great with the peanut sauce.
Salmon dish: 5/10 Just kinda salty and lacked flavor.
Rice: 10/10 well cooked.
Seafood mix (forgot the name): 7/10, flavor was okay but the mussel clams etc. were so soft and cooked well! I poured green curry over it to eat it.
Overall: 6/10, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to others but it's not bad! Try the green curry if you come here.
The food was great but a bit expensive.
Some of the best pad thai I’ve had in a long time! Very flavorful. The egg rolls were delicious, also. I ordered delivery & look forward to visiting the restaurant very soon.
The best Thai food..
I have ordered vegetarian and they make it according to my specification. There Server Natty is super sweet.. she suggested me knowing my reluctance in few things and her suggestions were top on.. with every bite I got mmmmmmm... a must try
The appetizer was good, but the beef entry was tough to chew, and the sauce was watery. It's the first time I ever contemplated discarding my leftovers.
Waitress could have smiled but food was great and came out fast and place was clean
Some of the best authentic Thai food in Austin.
Delicious food at reasonable prices
Solid Thai food in downtown Austin. Doesn’t replace my usual favorite spots but when traveling, I would come here for a quick, easy meal again.
The quality of the food is very high and the price is unbeatable. I have visited the restaurant plenty of times and I have never been disappointed. Most of the dishes are or can be made gluten free
Excellent Thai food at a reasonable price. Highly recommended.
The best 👌
Disturbingly large entree portions. Fish cakes were the best item we had. It will fulfill your need for a Thai fix but you probably won’t crave it.
Dining here was a complete pleasure. Wait staff was attentive and personable without being intrusive. Food was delicious. Environment was extremely comfortable and tastefully appointed.
Highly recommended!
I sensed micro aggression when I didn’t tip on a to go order. I was chatting with another person who ordered food to go while waiting. When the order came, the person I was talking to was given a paper bag with a handle. The cashier returned with my order in a tied plastic bag and placed on my lap. It didn’t feel good.
So good I went back for more! Pad Thai and Pad Kee Mao were a little on the sweet side but otherwise full of flavour and a generous portion size at a reasonable price ($16). Chilled vibe inside, friendly staff, TV plays some random feel-good video channel Bviral which was delightful to glance at.
Everything was absolutely delicious. My first time visiting Austin—highly recommend.
Great job Mai Thai! Coming back in the Austin city limits from the Texas Eclipse Festival and Mai Thai was our first choice to enjoy a tasty meal prepared with flavors of Love. Good for Vegan gluten free friends. Many thanks for all your services.
My pad see ew with tofu was easy to order online and ready much sooner than expected. Noodles could’ve been softer and slightly less heavy on the sauce, but otherwise good. Expect downtown Austin price of $16.
Nice Thai option downtown, but everything we got was pretty salty. Good portion sizes.
Overall a good spot but service is currently lacking. They have a notice on the door they are short staffed but we wanted to try anyway. We ended up waiting a fair amount of time but are happy we did as the food was great! Still, if you’re in a hurry, you may want to consider somewhere else as of April 2024.
As I mentioned, we all tried the egg rolls and a mix of food and we all enjoyed our dishes. We had Pad Pak, Mai Thai Noodles, and a peanut based dish I can’t remember the name of.
I took a few pictures but unfortunately am realizing now they came out horrible. Oops!
Food was mediocre, but service was good. Noodles and broccoli were undercooked in my pad see ew.
Excellent Food. We had three dishes, all very flavorful, spicy and served quickly on a Wednesday afternoon. Will be back!
Great Thai food and lots of vegan options.
I walked in off the street after doing a bunch of manual labor at SXSW and felt a little awkward asking for takeout at such a pretty place, but the woman at the front desk was very welcoming and helpful. I ordered the Mai Thai noodles and she had it ready for me in under ten minutes. When I took it home and got to eat it was INCREDIBLE. 10/10 would go again if I could ever find parking downtown
Best Austin local spot. Ran by a family this restaurant will hav e you thinking about it till the next time. I personally love the pineapple curry and cheese rolls. The pineapple curry has the perfect taste and spice every time. The Mai Thai noodles are also a classic as well as the red snapper. The red snapper heat and flavor is perfect. Honestly the best Thai around.
I ordered The Tom Kha soup and the fish cakes. Soup was very watered down. More watery than coconut milk consistency and flavor, basically it was closer to hot water with lime and coconut flavor. The fish cakes were actually harder to chew than they should’ve been. I needed to out significant force behind my fork cutting of the fish cakes. I would not recommend this place. They seem to be taking quality shortcuts that are not reflected in the price point
Super Essen und schneller Service.
Wir waren mit einer Gruppe von 10 Leuten da und wurden sehr freundlich bedient.
I did take out from here and thought the food was excellent
Just received an Uber order. I paid extra for vegetables in both dishes, but there were none. Small portion on the Pad Thai with no vegetables and the dish is very dry. The Musmum also had no extra vegetables and the flavor is odd/uninteresting. Incredibly disappointed and big waste of money.
The service was a bit slow due to staff shortages, but the staff worked very efficiently, and the food was fantastic. The Khao Soi was comparable to versions I recently had in Chiang Mai.
Someone at a conference I was at recommended Mai Thai and I’m SO glad they did. I had the Tom Yum soup and one of the salads with beef and oh my goodnessss every bite was a delight.
I’ll definitely be back. So good and affordable for the potions you get. Thanks Mai Thai!
Literally my favorite restaurant in austin. Every single thing I have ever ordered has been incredible. Quick, friendly service, Affordable prices, no wait. 10/10. Almost everything can be made gluten free. I’m celiac and have never gotten sick from their food.
They were so wonderful and welcoming to us after a long day. Their tofu is amazing and they have the largest Thai Tea servings I have experienced. I got so excited about the green tea ice cream with edible flowers on it that I forgot my wallet; however, as I live in Dallas (we were there for a day trip), I called them when I remembered and they offered to mail my wallet to me. Thankfully, I will be receiving my wallet soon. Amazing service and kindness! Will be going here every time I visit Austin! :).
Mai Thai had great food and a great environment. I went with family and friends. We all enjoyed it
great spot for Thai food in downtown Austin. we were swiftly seated and the food was served soon after piping hot and delicious.
ordered delivery from here and it was very solid. both the red and yellow curries are very full, not too creamy (/ not too much coconut milk), and have good portions.
I got the chicken and enjoyed it, will definitely be trying the tofu next.
The food was excellent!!Loved it!!
Grat place!! Seat at the bar get a drink sushi and talk to Oscar the bar tender!!
The food was pretty good. The service was so so but it was nice that it was open late.
Best Thai in Austin!
My Thai has always been one of our family's favorite spots to eat. The egg rolls were different a while back but I'm happy to say that they are back to the originals, although a bit smaller but still great. Their Lemon Chicken is the best I've tried. They also have some new items added to their menu. They are closed between 3-5pm for a break by the way.
My ol lady is from Thailand. She really loves their papaya salad (Som Tum)
Food was very tasty.
Food came smelling like rotten meat. Disgusting
Decent food but super super obnoxious and gross off brand TikToks playing everywhere. It’s impossible to have a conversation and ruins your appetite. I looked over and it’s videos of rodents, then beetles, then pimples. Ridiculous for a nice restaurant.
Very delicious!
So far everything we tried was incredible!
Amazing spot! Delicious and perfect.
Excellent cuisine, cute service, ask for prid nam pla 🌶
We tried a bunch of dishes and all were delicious. Most tender beef I’ve had at a Thai restaurant. The pineapple red curry, basil fried rice and coconut soup were especially good but the pad see ew and pad kee mao were good too. I’m usually not a huge fried rice or curry fan but I was super impressed and actually liked those dishes better than the noodles which are my typical go to.
Great restaurant, the noodles were far too spicy but the food otherwise was great
I have been to many Thai restaurants over the years and generally is it difficult to be really bad with Thai food because the flavors are very appealing and accessible. That said, Mai Thai is the exception in being the only really bad Thai restaurant I have been to - granted I only had 3 dishes and only one visit but I don't dare go back. The egg rolls were just too salty to start. Where it got really bad was the Mai Thai Red Snapper. It was just really bad (and not cheap)- battered snapper to be this chewy and tough and salty (even with the sweet and sour sauce) really takes really not giving a damn to a new level.
It is not that hard given the great flavors in Thai food to be passable but this was really bad and I could not even finish the dish. The was finally compounded by the fact that the brown rice was like glutinous rice - where the grains were all congealed together, sticky and inedible. So Mai Thai is really exceptional - in being the only Thai Restaurant that I have ever been to that is really bad. The others have been at worst - 'just not good.' The only caveat is that this is a single visit - but one visit too many given that the price was very Austin Standard.
I had takeout Masaman Curry, it was excellent.
Parking in the area is terrible but the food and service are amazing! The curries are so delicious. Food comes out super fast. Staff is very polite and attentive.
I’ll definitely be back!
I read the reviews and expected to like this place but was disappointed.
First I got the satay skewers and to be honest I’m not really sure I’ve ever seen chicken looking like this. If you look at other’s photographs you can see that they have this bizarre omelet-like look, nothing like chicken at all. They were bland and sort of tasteless, nothing in the flavor suggesting chicken that had been grilled on skewers.
I also had the panang curry and while the curry flavor itself was decent, it included nothing in it but a few slices of pepper and the shrimp I had ordered. Literally just soup instead of a hearty curry. I’ve had panang many times and have never seen it with so few (in this case, one) vegetables in it.
Looking at other pictures of the panang curry on here I see what looks like eggplant and potato and maybe bamboo in the curry, which would have been great. Instead I had to dump a whole pile of rice into to make it somewhat hearty and filling. Very strange. Perhaps they are trying to save on food cost?
Overall I wouldn’t come back, based on these two dishes.
Amazing food. Fast service. Will definitely come back
Excellent service. Some of the best panang curry I've had.
I’m always used to leaving bad reviews. But this place deserves all the rave. Food is amazing and service is great. I’m super picky with food. So trust when I say, certainly a place worth eating in!
Rating higher than 1 star bc I wish I would’ve seen the lower reviews. I love Thai and was super disappointed with the quality of food here.
I was sent a wrong item in my order and could’ve gotten passed that if the food was delicious or at least good but, it was not.
Ok place
If you come to Austin and don't visit this restaurant you are doing yourself a disservice.
Quick service ✅
Reasonable prices ✅
Delicious authentic thai flavor ✅
Your taste buds deserve this!
Po Tak soup worths 5 stars
I loved this place! Amazing service, and great food.
I tried the basil fried rice and it's very very good.
Such a great little shop. Very friendly and courteous staff and the food was great. Try the Kaho Soi and Pineapple Fried Rice
I usually don’t review restaurants, but the pad see ew and pineapple fried rice I ordered were both outstanding. Highly recommend.
The food here was good. Everyone enjoyed what they had and the shrimp was well.cooked. the same was great. The only downside was that we kept having to ask for water and drink refills. They were not that busy at the time.
The pork skewers were very tasty as well as the pad kee mao. The Tom Yum was lacking in flavors, such a bummer! Service was fast and attentive. Nice and cool restaurant. Overall was a good experience.
The food overall was quite good. I mix matched a few things and one of the main parts of my dish was missing; the cashews. It was delicious without but after finally flagging the waiter down, they brought me a small bowl. It would have been sooo much better stir fried in.
My partner ordered his mai tai noodles with a level 2 spice and he got level 6. It was good but way too over powering to eat.
We did enjoy the food and will definitely give it another chance.
Parking here looks like it would be a challenge. We walked from the hotel so it wasn’t a bad walk for us.
Food is very good. Delicious. The waitress and owner are amazing. 😊
The soup tom ka soup tasted 95 sour. Rename it the bad sour soup.
Solid Thai food, not too bad pricing
Best Tom Kha soup in North + Central Austin. As an Asian, the spices and dishes taste like elevated comfort food. Very delicious. Every dish is flavorful, dependable, clean. They can make it as spicy as needed. The hosts + kitchen are very kind and accommodating.
The location has existed for years, parking varies, sometimes I street-park and walk over. I've brought numerous people for work/events through the years and trust the location as my go-to downtown. There is a small up-charge for large groups.
Best Thai food!
And they will alter the dish to your liking, completely. Don't want egg in your fried rice, they got you. Want extra meats/veggies in your dish? No problem.
Staff is great. Prices are reasonable. Food is amazing.
There is no better Thai food in Bratislava. Thai is on the top of my list, I’ve eaten thai food in many countries and also worked in Thai restaurant so I am very familiar with this cuisine. Thai mai id deliscious, authentic, fresh and affordable. Win win. Great customer service, make a reservation on busy nights.
This food was super delicious, very reasonably priced, and the service was great. They ran out of mango sweet rice but everything else was perfect.
First time in Austin and I started walking around the hotel, found this place and went there for a to-go order. I was told 15 minutes wait, which was reasonable. The food came in 5 minutes and it was delicious! Good portion and fairly priced. Will visit again when in town.
Great service and excellent food. The proprietors are actually Thai. Some of the best pad see ew I've had in a long time.
Excellent Thai food with pleasant service. The only drawback is a noisy room. Highly recommended.
Duck Curry was so delicious. Very surprising combination of food but so good.
Restaurant is conveniently located within 2 blocks of the downtown hotels by the convention center. Friendly service. Food came out really fast, 3-4 mins after placing the order.
The food was good - fresh ingredients and good portion. Pad Thai was good. The papaya salad (somtum) could have been a bit more spicy. This place seemed to Thai owned. Definitely a place to go to if you are craving for Southeast Asian food.
I had lunch here and the food was amazing. The staff was very friendly and great to interact with. The restaurant felt very clean and well maintained.
Always delicious, especially the crispy crunchy lettuce wraps. Never had anything like that anywhere else, and they’re incredible.
Food was amazing! Best Pad Thai!
I wasn’t expecting this to be fancy but I did think it would be better than it was because of the reviews.
Delivery was fine. Door Dash guy did great, actually.
I got the crispy cheese rolls (not pictured), the fresh spring rolls (vegetarian?) and chicken red curry.
The crispy cheese rolls were the most edible, hence, I ate them. But they were pretty hard / chewy, like they had sat out for a bit after being fried, and had the tiniest amount of cheese inside. The “sauce” was not “sauce.” I would call it more like a salad dressing, very watery, weird texture. But flavor was okay. Not too sweet or sour. Just bland.
The “vegetarian” fresh spring rolls as they were labeled on Door Dosh came with shrimp. I don’t mind, but it did annoy me that the only option was for vegetarian ones and I chose vegetarian ones. The roll itself was okay, bland again. Nothing wrong per se, but nothing great either. The peanut sauce was straight up gross. Coagulated with a weird flavor. Weird texture. Yuck! No thanks.
For the main course, red curry, I was excited that it said it came with red bell peppers as those are my favorite. There were probably 3 pieces of red in there, the rest were green. But it’s okay, because they both tasted old, mushy…, 🤔 The chicken was tough and very over cooked. The absolute kicker and reason for this long and necessarily negative review was the curry, however. While the chicken and veggies tasted over done, salty, and just plain old, the curry was parts straight up curry, parts straight up milk, like it had not been thoroughly cooked together into a sauce.
The steamed rice was good. Good job on the rice.
I have no clue what was going on tonight, but I would not recommend this place for takeout / delivery.
Place needs a paint job. FOOD was exceptional! Overlook the chipped paint, and all good.
