Restaurant Review: Thai Palm, North Charleston
If you’re looking for a delightful dining experience in North Charleston, look no further than Thai Palm! From the moment we walked through the door, we were greeted with warmth and genuine hospitality that set the tone for the evening. The service was second to none—attentive without being intrusive, making us feel valued guests throughout our meal.
We started our culinary journey with two appetizers that were simply divine. The Shrimp in a Blanket was a perfect blend of crunch and flavor, featuring succulent shrimp wrapped in crispy egg roll skin. The Vegetarian Egg Roll, also deep-fried to golden perfection, was packed with fresh vegetables and spices, making it a delightful start to our meal.
We indulged in a trio of mouthwatering dishes for our entrees that showcased the vibrant flavors of Thai cuisine. The Basil Fried Rice with Chicken was a standout, brimming with fresh basil, bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, snow peas, and broccoli—each bite was a harmonious explosion of taste. The Green Curry with Chicken was equally impressive, with tender chicken mingling with bell peppers, peas, basil leaves, bamboo shoots, and eggplant in a rich, aromatic curry sauce with just the right kick.
We also tried the Thai Salad, Neua Nam Yok, which featured perfectly seasoned beef tossed with cilantro, red and green onions, all brought together with a zesty lime juice and fish sauce dressing. It was refreshing and packed with flavor, a perfect complement to our other dishes.
Every dish we tried was delicious and beautifully presented, making it a feast for the eyes and the palate. The experience at Thai Palm was a lovely blend of taste, service, and atmosphere.
We highly recommend Thai Palm to anyone seeking authentic Thai cuisine in a welcoming environment. We can't wait to return for another round of their incredible dishes!
I was craving mango sticky rice last month when we visited for the first time. The food was so good we had to come back again! Best mango sticky rice I’ve had recently and everything else on the menu was fantastic as well. A plus for us is the atmosphere — it’s a nice and quiet/peaceful place where you can enjoy your meal over a conversation which we prefer most of the time. Service was great too.
We’ve enjoyed and would recommend these from the menu: tom yum (shrimp), fresh spring rolls, chicken satay, pad thai (spicy), mango sticky rice, and their thai tea! Can’t wait to try something else next time.
Just had lunch there with my friend. I had Shrimp Pad Thai and she had a chicken dish.
Both were amazing!! Portions are large enough to take some home! Our server, who I think may be the owner, could not have been more pleasant. It’s in a strip mall, So it doesn’t look like much from the outside, but there are some booths in the back .
On another note, the restroom was neat and clean.
If you’re in the mall shopping, I would recommend you give them a try… I’ll definitely be back!
Stopped by after shopping and found this spot, enjoyed a quick dinner with my wife. The service was fast with no one there, until half way through another group showed up. Waitress was kind and not pushy. My least favorite things were when she brought the check without my asking when I hadn’t finished my meal and that there are no windows in the main seating area. The best was that the food was amazing, pad Thai was very good and curry had a perfect kick for medium spice with an amazing flavor I can’t name. Springs rolls came with a rich peanut sauce. Waiter was also kind enough to bring us a spring roll of shrimp and vegetarian. I recommend for a quick bite to eat with friends you feel close to.
My absolute favorite Thai restaurant. Awesome Panang Curry, my favorite dish. Prompt service and very friendly staff. Highly recommend the experience.
1 of 3 dishes was ok. 2 had little flavor, we kept adding salt and Tabasco. Didn’t help. Only 4 booth tables. Avoid.
Came to Charleston North for a few days with very low expectations on Asian food in the area. Thai Palm is really good food and has other Southeast Asia dishes, not just Thai. Came back a second time. Highly recommend if you are looking for more authentic Asian food in this area.
Awesome fried rice. This is my comfort food and I always try to find a place that makes it well. Good job. Will be back.

We come here every time we pass through North Charleston. The absolute best!
We were a bit worried up on arrival that there was no one else dining but we were pleasantly surprised. The service was excellent and friendly and the food was really good and good value.
I stopped in for lunch. Ordered the Wonton Soup (Thai Style), wow! It was so delicious! The vegetables were so fresh and looked amazing amongst the Wontons and Shrimp. Simply one of the best soups I have ever had.
Worst thai I've ever had... got pad thai with chicken and it had 0 flavor. It tasted like unseasoned noodles and boiled chicken. Somehow even the sticky rice with mango was bland, and if it weren't for the mango there would have been no flavor. I was excited to try it but please stay away. Mango tree, taste of thai and thailiscious 2 all blow this place out of the water.
Just had lunch there with my friend. I had Shrimp Pad Thai and she had a chicken dish.

Excellent !! Best Thai food in town!!
Ordered the crab fried rice and saw no crab meat at all. When we asked about where the crab meat was the waitress said, do you know how much the crab meat cost? So we literally just ate a plate full of rice and we saw two pieces of crab meat and they were very very little. Although the rice was good, I wouldn’t recommend this place if you’re looking to get what you’re paying for .
Good food, nice people will not disappoint!!!
Best thai food I've found in the low country!
Me and colleagues used to go there for lunch but we no longer will, due to the service. The younger bigger girl that they have working there is extremely rude and ìmpolite. She àcts as though we are bothering her when we come in. She barely speaks and rarely will respond when we say thank you. We dont need this from someone we are trying to give our business to especially since there has been a significant increase in their prices and its usually almost uncomfortably warm inside. I would overlook those issues but not also to then be treatly poorly.
Imagine in the midst of a shopping district a restaurant that takes you back to the food stalls of the night markets of Bangkok or a good meal on the island of Koh Tao. A cozy place for good eats.
My husband ordered the pad Thai and I ordered the egg roll noodle salad. The most delicious Thai food we’ve had in a long time!
Best Thai around
The restaurant was clean. The portions were small especially for the price. Not much flavor. In the curries or the chicken satay.
Loved the mango sticky rice here !
One of my favorites 😍.
Staff was friendly and attentive.
We will be back... and tell friends as well.
Some of the best Thai food we’ve had. We were in town for a week and ate here on a whim. It was so good we came back again a couple nights later.
Best Thai food anywhere around. Every time I'm in the Charleston area this place is a must. Exceptional every single time!
Pretty good for a strip mall Thai place, the seating is past the storage area which is a little sketchy, but the food makes up for it.
Our overall experience was excellent from the time was walked in until we left. Our host/server was absolutely lovely. He was able to make suggestions for our picky eaters. His suggestions worked as they ate every thing! The pad see ew was the best I've had. When we come back to town we'll definitely visit again!
Pad Thai is fantastic!
Best food and service 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻 I will definitely be eating here again
Delicious authentic Thai food. Good price as well.
Came here for dinner with my kids. The food is SO delicious and fresh. The food was surprisingly delicious!! I ordered the ginger chicken, my daughter ordered the tofu curry and my son ordered the pad Thai. All thumbs up!
My go-to place for delicious spring rolls and frozen taro drink!
Stayed in local area for a night and looked up Thai food in the area. Reviews were good so gave it a try. Ordered the Pad se Ew, spring rolls and sweet and sour chicken. Order came out pretty quick which was weird because it takes a while to cook the noodles for my dish. Needless to say noodles weren’t even the right noodles for the dish, it was also under cooked and a bit hard. The entire dish did not come close to how it was suppose to taste. It was so oily! The sweet and sour chicken was more like a chicken stew dish. Really Terrible. The only thing that tasted ok was the spring rolls which was just deep fried so you really can’t mess that up.
Food was cooked in rancid oil. The peanuts in the curry were all rancid & tasted bitter.
EAT HERE! Trust me! I always eat at Thai restaurants when out of town and we happened to be on this side of town and WOW Ia m so glad we found this little slice of heaven! Chicken noodle soup was amazing! The pad see ewe was amazing and my husbands ginger chicken was so good!! The mango sticky rice was WOW too!!! Wish we had Thai place where we lived because we would eat there all the time!!! The owner is the sweetest lady too we chatted with her for a bit!!! Y’all go there! It’s so good!!!!
Best meal I've had around Charleston.
Great place for some wonderful Thai food and the staff was very friendly
I’m new to Charleston and living in the heart of the French Quarter. This was a recommendation from a a new acquaintance, and located in a North Charleston shopping area. Still, trying to get to know the area, I drove the 25 minutes to try Thai Palm. Am I glad I did. It is not an “impress your date” place. It’s a real, quality, authentic Thai restaurant. Pad Kee Mai. Fresh Spring Rolls. Basic. Freshly cooked, slightly crunchy veggies. Big shrimp. So so good.
Good options, nice sauces and well flavored thai dishes. Staff were friendly, helpful and gave great recommendations.
Expensive but so good.
We love going here for delicious food, fast service and welcoming atmosphere. I ordered steamed dumplings and shrimp in a blanket and was impressed at how quickly our food came out. It was fresh, hot, and delicious!
Our first time eating here after our daughters graduation. No can cook Thai food like my momma but this place had curry as delicious as moms. I would definitely recommend the Pad Thai and Chicken with cashews. If you like curry this is the place to eat it. The owners were very hospitable and accommodating to our party of 7.
Thai Palm is located in Tanger Outlet in North Charleston. The space is intimate and dimly lit, quiet and cozy. We ordered beef satay, chicken pad thai, green curry, and mango sticky rice. The woman who served us is pleasant, kind, and considerate. She kept our glasses full! The food was delicious and portioned generously. The mango sticky rice was unique to me because there was a combination of savory and sweet flavors. We really enjoyed ourselves!
We just found this place while visiting Charleston. There was a massive traffic jam so we pulled in and saw their sign on the backside of the building and decided to give it a try.
We are so glad we did. Eveything here was fantastic. All the food was spectacular and we had the most lovely little old lady for a waitress. And she was one of the best waitresses we've had anywhere recently. She was funny and informative and helped us put our food away to take home with us.
We will definitely make a point to come here again when we get back down to the area. HIGHLY recommended!
Good food but small portions for a $20 lunch
Not a good value
The lady at the front desk seems to be like a miser. We ordered a take out and she didn’t provide napkins or spoons and forks in the bag ! (These are some of the basic things you need to provide). When asked for napkins she gave like one napkin. Looks like food is made with recycled / reused oil. Smells iffy and tastes below average at best. We had to throw away the food because of the oil used for cooking and had to order something else.
We have been going to the Thai Palm for several years now. Excellent Thai food!!
Wonderful staff + service :)
Loved the dishes we chose ,, very tasty!
Thank you
Food was surprisingly really good, just a little pricey!
I absolutely love Thai Palm! I've been eating here for years! It's a family run restaurant. The owner, Notch, is a talented chef, and her son works the front of house, and he is so kind. I usually get take out almost once a week from this place. I love their Wonton Soup and Shrimp in a blanket😋. They are fast and delicious, never ever had a problem. They definitely strive for excellence! So, if you are looking for a great Thai restaurant, I would recommend you try Thai Palm for your next meal.
See you guys this week sometime🥰
I thought the food was decent… my Thai wife did not lol.
Perfect in every way. Small intimate restaurant with great traditional Thai offerings and great service. Will be going back.
Made reservations, glad we did 👍
The food was very delicious. And the customer service was great also. Will definitely return whenever I’m in this town
I’ve ate at Thai restaurants all over the country. This was probably my best basil fried rice dish ever!
This place has the best Thai food in town. It's the only place I will ever take my mom (who is Thai) and the only place I will take my friends for the kind of meal my mom would make. Larb? Curry? (awl the kinds) So good. Pad Thai? So good. Pineapple Fried Rice? Amazing. Tonight I had the Neua Nam Tok Salad and it had the perfect mix of onion, cilantro, and delicious beef. 10/10 will order again cuz it was so good and left enough room for dessert (Mango and sweet rice). The pic I took only has half of the dish cuz I dove in before I remembered to feed my phone 😄
The chicken pad Thai was fresh and delicious. I like how they make it to your level of spice to make sure you get exactly what you like!
Food was so good I would move to Charleston and eat here once a week. The best Thai I have had in ten+ years. And they will make not spicy or extra spicy depending on your taste. Highly recommend.
Pad Thai was good a little above average. The portion was very small and only had 3 shrimp for the price not worth it.
I was told by the manger "You order at your own risk!"
I was so excited for thai curry! The meals that I ordered turned out to taste totally opposite from tie that I have ever had! I shared that with the manager and the server and asked to be refunded or even in search of a different meal and I was actually told, "You order at your own risk!"
I regret this first time visit! I've wasted $40 of food that didn't look like it should have been eaten and We even tried to more past the sight of it, then the taste want like any Thai I have ever had!
This was a horrible experience from the start!
I thought I was going to get food! It was all gelled together more like mush! The meat looked like slop! It was a horrible experience! Never again, please beware! I really don't think they have enough customers to keep up with quality of their food. A waste of money, it all went in the trash!
I came here for takeout from my Mom and I and my Mom did not like her meal and I just needed a little refund because I need to purchase food somewhere else. They would not take their food back that she did not like! I really believe that the customer is always right and you should try your best to please the customer!
For the price (almost $20) for a lunch salad, the portion size was disappointingly small and the service during the interaction was short and unfriendly. Two starts for tiny, albeit tasty, salad!
Low key amazing Thai.
Great food
We found this place out of desperation and it ended up being one of the best Thai food I have ever had. We simply searched for something in the vicinity and here we are. The personnel were so friendly and we got our meal in a timely manner. Keep in mind that the place is not too spacious parking May be limited so plan accordingly.
Amazing this food… one of the best that I’ve had in Charleston… it’s at Exit 213. We were at Exit 209 and I especially went there because the food there is simply Awesome… and the staff is great… the quantity is good… try the basil fried rice and the Tom yum chicken soup my favourite… overall an amazing experience
The service was so so so great.
They were friendly and fast.
They even gave me multiple waters while waiting for the to go order (it was a hot day).
Thank you Thai Palm.
Why do you advertise for this company when they are closed for 3 weeks? Sign on the door says closed from Aug 2 to Aug 23. Way to go Google.
Tiny place with great food and terrific service. Very enjoyable.
The food here hits your palette just right. This was our second visit. This time we had an Appetizer to start, Shrimp in a blanket. They were tasty and served with a sweet chili sauce. Our selections were Basil Leaves w/ chicken and Tom Yum Chicken soup. Rice was given on the side to the table. Both entrees were flavorful and delicious. We absolutely love the service as well. They do a good amount of carry out. So go check them out!
Little dive restaurant. So glad we decided to stop. Green curry was great, noodle dishes were on point! Not a lot of seating, but they do take out. So good, we'll be back!
Ordered Fried Rice on Friday and it was absolutely delicious. I loved the fact they add eggs, peas, fresh onions and carrots.
Food is just ok, But the place seating and decor is horrible its like a storage room
And the price for the quality is real to high
Food was okay. Service was okay. But the portion size for what you pay is pathetic. Add on top of that the menu prices aren't correct. I wouldn't waste your time or money.
Food tasted ok but very expensive and tiny portions.
Good food! Helpful service. Would go back!
I had the crab fried rice, it was pricey for a small plate of fried rice, and there wasn't any crab visible. The menu states it has crab and shrimp, it only includes 2 shrimp. I spoke to the waitress and she said you have to look closely to find the white claw meat ,👀 and they, in fact, only serve 2 shrimp with the dish. It was okay, but I expected visible crab and more than 2 shrimp.
Worst experience i have ever had. If you are from Asian origin you are treated badly here. The server was very rude. The way she was treating other non asian customer was totally different then what we received. I have been a Thai food fan since last 3 yrs, in Dallas & Charlotte. But the taste in this restaurant is no where near to what i had at other places but it seems Charleston area does not have much choice when it comes to Thai food. The owner of the restaurant needs to train all the serving person on treating all customer without any discrimination inspite of country of origin.
We just ate here as in we haven’t even checked out yet and this place is amazing. We had the basil rice, red curry duck and it was amazing. They’ve gained a new customer for sure. The greeter was very pleasant and greeted us with a smile. Atmosphere and nice and quite.
This is one of the best Thai restaurants in the state, if not the entire country. I don't know why people feel entitled to drop negative reviews for personal or one-off errors, but I have eaten her multiple-hundreds of times (not joking, I may as well pay part of the rent at this place, and I do so happily) and I have never experienced anything negative enough to question returning. The owners/staff (often synonymous) are genuinely kind and sweet people who truly enjoy when patrons experience their cooking. This place deserves the patronage of anyone who understands non-americanized Thai cooking, and should be at the top of your list. Love, love, love this place.
Great place, great service.
Food was delicious!
Best tie I've ever had I will be going back went to a different place tonight in Summerville it was awful time was good the food was fresh cooked to perfection very flavorful lovely staff ❤️❤️❤️
First off, please forgive the unappealing photos 😅 It was a takeout meal and I took this when I was almost done.
The service was great, the cashier was super helpful, kind, and answered any questions we had about Thai food to the best of his ability! We arrived around 6-7pm after a few hours of shopping so a few tables were already filled up but we got our food relatively quickly (about 10-15 minutes? I’m not sure).
However, although the service was amazing, the food itself was subpar at best. We ordered steamed chicken dumplings, beef noodle soup, spring rolls, and green curry. The chicken dumplings were delicious, but that might just be due to my liking for them. One thing that was annoying though was that the wrap around the dumpling filling kept falling off and some of the dumplings were stuck to each other. As for the beef noodle soup, just make sure to read the label that it consists of RICE noodles (I clearly didn’t). Rice noodles are personally not my favorite, as I find it too thin and tasteless compared to flour ones. The soup itself was very excellent though! The spring rolls wrapping was also too thin and there were too many veggies in it—it was basically a salad. The green curry was a no for me taste bud wise.
My biggest complaint would definitely be the pricing however. $8 for 2 poor spring rolls????? This goes for all the dishes— the portions were quite small considering the price.
I would not come back here again.
Found this place close to our hotel the last night of our stay. The server was attentive, efficient, engaging, knowledgeable about the menu, and obviously a great fit for his position there. We had the spring rolls, cashew chicken and the pineapple fried rice with chicken. The entrees came out hot, fresh, the temps as we ordered (one mild, one medium). Our water glasses were never more than half empty and he checked to make sure we had enough hot water for our Jasmine tea. In all, this was the best dining experience we had here in 3 days.
Authentic Thai !! The women who run this place are super sweet, the food is AMAZING !!!
This was my first experience with Thai food and I was impressed! My boyfriend and I opted to dine in. We were greeted and seated with no wait. The establishment was clean. The atmosphere was pleasant. It is a bit dim in the dining area but we didn’t mind. Waitress was sweet and attentive. I ordered steamed chicken dumplings and spicy chicken noodle salad. My boyfriend ordered shrimp spring rolls and chicken pad thai. Our food came to our table several moments later. My boyfriend and I enjoyed my meal. Hours later, we wished we had order more food/takeout for later. We will definitely be coming back!
Expensive bih😑
Very small portions for a very high price. We got take-out and couldn’t believe how small the bag was for two people. The beef noodle soup was mostly noodles with a large coffee-sized container of broth and very little beef. The people were friendly enough, just need to adjust the prices or portions.
The food is ok and I find them to be more expensive. This restaurant is located in the same vicinity of the Tanger outlet. I only liked their cashew chicken dish. Fried rice and noodles are not that great.
Pad thai and beef satay were delicious. The Thai tea was refreshing. Great menu variety. Staff was kind and friendly. Overall very pleased with their service and quality of food.
Food was delicious and our server was incredible!
Red curry 👍
Friendly staff and authentic food. Delicious 😋
Very good food come here often
Excellent food and great service
Food is great! But extremely overpriced.
It's ok not the best, not the worsr
My favorite Thai restaurant!! I’ve ordered several times here and they are fast and always friendly! Not to mention the food is delicious!
Ordered through UE. This review is not a reflection on UE, the food arrived on time and hot. As far as the restaurant goes the price is not worth it. The food is tasty, portion is small and that's if you get what you ordered. We paid extra for beef and shrimp for my wife's pad see ew - she got 4 shrimp lol. 20 bucks for some noodles, veggies and 4 shrimp. At least I received what I ordered but for a separate 20 dollar plate, I shouldn't be hungry after eating it, again only 4 shrimp for the upcharge. We won't order from here any more.
Food was not as good as it used to be.
Ordered from Uber Eats-- was missing half of my order. The half I did get was flavorless and cold. Try Lanna Thai or Taste of Thai instead.
The foods okay but the interior is kinda off putting I don’t know how to describe it, so overall don’t expect to be wowed by the quality but it’s not too bad of a place to check out
Food was okay was not as good as it used to be hadn't been there for quite some time.
Great Thai food. Pad See Ewe, Green Curry and Tom Yum all were excellent. The restaurant is nothing special, seating is kinda tight but the important thing is the food was great!
Really good food!
I haven't had Thai food this good since i was in Thailand! Super quick service. Excellent price and super authentic. I will visit again when i come back to SC.
It's okay
Food is delicious.. Kind of pricey
Awesome place and staff. The food was perfect for my entire family. Pad Thai is on point and the their “spicy” is just right.
Ordered shrimp fried rice with crab and only got TWO shrimp. That’s ridiculous. Two shrimp? Not sure if that’s a Charleston thing cause i went to a different thai restaurant and got only three shrimp. So that’s crazy and disappointing because the dishes are not cheap prices so I’d like to get what i paid for. Will not be going again.
The food is not bad. However, the portions are too small and overpriced. I ordered a fried shrimp basket for $8, which included four small fried shrimp. For the main course, I ordered beef pad Thai for $15. Finally, I added sweet sticky mango for dessert. My bill was about $50. I expected to get enough food for both my son and me, but that was not the case. The portion of noodles was too small to share and the shrimp basket was a snack.
The staff are very welcoming and attentive. They gave exceptional service. I had the Red Curry Duck Pot, and I reccomend it to anyone expecting great flavor and portions. The curry has heat levels ranked 1-4, if you crave spice or not.
Best food ever
The cashew chicken was delicious.
Amazing food and service!
Up there with the best Thai restaurants in the USA. A little gem. Nothing fancy but clean and packed full of flavor.
Definitely the most authentic Thai in Charleston area.
The chicken satay skewers were great (use the sauce for additional yum), the pad thai is the best I’ve had, and the wife had pad see ew and it was good as well.
I almost didn't stop here to eat here but I'm glad that I did. Steamed shrimp dumplings, Pad Woon Sen, Green tea ice cream, Mango Sticky Rice and a thai ice tea. All of it was exactly what I needed. Anyone who didn't give this place five stars doesn't know what they are talking about. This will be a regular stop for me when in Charleston.
I was so pleased with this restaurant and everything I ordered. The service was great and they are just so incredible nice. Il definitely go back just for that. Thank you!!
I ordered tofu pad kee mao, and I will say that it was tasty. However, it was definitely overpriced. It was $16.00 for one serving. I am typically someone who has to split my meal into two portions because most restaurants give you too much for just one person, but that didn't happen here.
Never a bad dish
They can't get order correctly
Yummy yummy thai food!! Love the soups, coconut tom kai.. get the spring rolls with peanut sauce ;)
Red curry chicken is excellent. The owners are supper nice and we’re very friendly when I picked up my food.
I had the papaya salad as takeout. You have 2 choices with the salad: dried shrimp or crab. I chose crab, which was a very bad decision. They basically threw in some crab shell pieces. There wasn't enough meat in there for me to bother trying to crack through the shells. It's like they threw in some garbage. Also, the cashier didn't have a mask on.
This was only my second time trying Thia food, so I decided to ask a few questions, the girl at the counter (Christina Lor) was extremely biased and had the worst attitude EVER, when I tried to ask her a few questions she took immediate offense with an attitude and said I don't know bc I'm not Thia, so as most of you know a lot of Asian restaurants have Asians there and and depending on the restaurant we don't always know whether they are Chinese, Thia, etc she was clearly asian and it was VERY clear she was extremely racist, she went on to call me ignorant over me asking basic questions about Thia food on the menue and it was unbelievable bc she started a huge debate over nothing, when I first walked in I was welcomed very kindly and professionally by NOCH ( the owner who was also working the kitchen) she answered a few questions politely b4 going in the kitchen and with no form of bias, it was clear after speaking with her she has had this same situation before with Christina Lor, she apologized for her behavior as Christina stood there arguing and refused to give her privacy and go in the back so she could talk to me,
I told Miss. Noch that Christina, will destroy her small operation if she kept her at the front, there was absolutely no reason for her behavior, she clearly has had problems with minority and has begun to classify them, it was a mess.
Miss. Nach was VERY nice and empathetic and it was clear that wasn't Christinas first time.
Awesome food - authentic and flavorful dishes. Kind and thoughtful service.
Great Chicken Pad Thai. One of the best in the area!
