Spicy curries, noodles & other traditional Thai dishes whipped up in laid-back, compact quarters.
There were two large groups when we went in on Sunday evening. The place looked very short staffed. Our server even though he was very nice , couldn't keep up with two large groups and all the other tables. I love Thai food and often go looking for a place wherever I travel and this place didn't feel flavorful. Not sure if it was because it was super busy. The good thing is they have option to add tofu or other meats /protein to all of their dishes so it gives a lot of option for vegetarians like us. There were a lot of vegetables in the dishes and the quantity looked good.
We ordered mixed vegetables with tofu, spicy basil with tofu and a salad. The food was just okay. Spicy basil was the best. The mixed vegetable lacked any flavor. The salad was forgotten and took forever to come. The service was very poor. The server even though was very friendly couldn't be with us much. We went and got our own forks because the food came with only spoons and server was busy, and also some paper napkins. He did give us water once but didn't come to refill. We were happy to be done and get out of the place. One person was waiting for their take out order for a long time. And they were out of seats . Just not a good experience for us. Parking outside was difficult but we managed to find a spot. Parking was free.
I’ve been going here for years. June does a fantastic job. She works very hard and I have never had a problem with the quality of food as it is always consistent, and she’s very accommodating with me to make it to my liking.
My favorite dish is The Drunken Noodles. I get it with shrimp and I add chicken for $3.00 more to get the best of both, and the portion is just enough. I’ve also gotten the appetizer Chicken Sauté with peanut sauce for dipping. Delicious! To finish it off, I get their Thai Iced Tea. Sometimes two.
Lastly, Thai Spoon is a great place to eat. The restaurant is very clean and organized, and the staff does a great job in person and on the phone. If you order delivery, it’s also very quick. If and when you try Thai Spoon, I hope you’ll let others know, and I hope my review helped. Enjoy!
It’s a pleasant Thai eatery with a good measure of authenticity. BUT OVERALL BELOW AVERAGE with significant misses.
The menu is mostly the usual familiar Thai fares. ***There’s a “Specialties” section, which would be a way to test this place***
🫤🫤🫤🫤🫤 The most significant miss is the almost absence of fragrant spices that Thai cuisine is known for. There’s hardly any heat; “medium” heat is non-existent.
🫤🫤🫤 Absence of Fresh Rolls, unusual for a Thai eatery.
😡😡😡😡😡 There’s that pesky Crab Rangoon that MUST BE CLEAR TO ALL… IT IS NOT NOT NOT THAI… IT IS NOT FROM ANY COUNTRY IN ASIA.
🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢 The Spring Roll is crispy BUT unseasoned and very little filling with very thick layers of skin. The overly sweet dipping sauce DOES NOT rescue this poor roll.
🤢🤢🤢 The Crispy Duck has very little duck, which are mere slivers of deep fried (almost charred) duck meat. It’s stir fried with crunchy vegetables BUT LACKS FRAGRANT SPICES. It’s soy sauce-base that tasted like poor attempt of a chinese-style stir fry. EATABLE BUT NO THAI FLAVOR.
👏👏👏 The Bangkok Seafood redeemed this visit. It’s OUTSTANDING medley of mixed shellfish and crunchy vegetables in the most lovely turmeric sauce. This one hits FRAGRANT SPICES PERFECTLY.
Service is very good.
The place is cozy yet very pleasant.
Thai Spoon is one of those special places, where the food warms you and provides comfort when you need it. We come here after a rough day, an emotional day, on a cold day, and always leave happy and full. We also come here with our extended family to celebrate birthdays. The food here is top notch, the portions are large, and the atmosphere is so relaxing and has a warmth to it. The best Thai food in the city.
Very nice Thai restaurant! I wasn’t aware of this spot until recently, so I’m very glad I found this gem. They have many of the classic Thai dishes for a reasonable price. I tried out their pad see ew with tofu and the black sticky rice with custard.
The pad see ew was very good. They definitely loaded up this dish with tons of vegetables, including fresh broccoli, cabbage, carrots, and more! The noodles were perfectly cooked and they used quite a lot of sauce, which I like. A decent amount of egg, although I would have preferred a bit more.
The black sticky rice with custard was near perfect. They had the lovely coconut to pour on top, which added a perfect hint of sweet and savory to it. The custard was perfect, the rice was delicious, it just really hit the spot.
All in all, this is a great Thai spot. Both of the items I tried, the pad see ew and the black rice with custard, were delicious. Definitely recommend!
The food is a perfect reflection of the people working there.
I always get Green Curry Chicken - I ordered 3rd party site delivery and they sent green curry tofu instead, so I called and they kindly offered to either refund me, or make me a new dish.
I chose the new dish. “Today was so bad” I said “and I just need this for myself. Thai spoon is my comfort meal”
When I went to pick it up, the manager came out to greet me with a new dish, and an extra goodie. She looked me in the eye and asked me if I was okay, and then gave me a hug.
There I was, crying in Thai Spoon because I was so overwhelmed with how much love and kindness they’d shown me…to make things not only right, but better.
Still, this elongated review couldn’t express my appreciation for them.
Kindness matters.
Thank you TS -11/10 delicious curry and cake ❤️
I just stopped by to view the menu I see it was outdated by 4 years so I updated the menu and took some fresh photos.
It will be a pleasure to be invited back to try back the drunken noodles or whatever other dish they would like me to review I have 6.2 million views for what I post and 5.5 million views for my photos.
Love 🙏🏼🙌🏼☺️

Order from Thai Spoon constantly. I recommend this place for pick up take out orders as they get them out the door very quickly. Can't speak to much on delivery or dine in as I really havent experienced it.
But the food itself is great- maybe even my favorite Thai in Pittsburgh ! Their Singapore Noodles is a fav :)
Thanks for everything Thai Spoon!
My husband and I order Thai Spoon take out constantly. It is our favorite Thai restaurant in the South Hills. The food is always good, and the portions are good for the price. Highly recommend the Tom Yum Noodle Soup, Singapore Noodles, Pattani Noodles, and Pad See-Ew.

FABULOUS Drunken Noodles!!

The food quality is way below my standards for Thai food. More like soso chinese mall food than Nikki's thai.

Green curry isn't even curry, might as well call it coconut soup.
finally found a good thai place close to home! delicious!
I absolutely love the spicy Thai noodles at this restaurant! Every time I visit, the flavor and spice level are consistently perfect. Not only that, but the workers are always incredibly friendly and welcoming, which enhances the overall dining experience. I highly recommend this place to anyone craving delicious Thai cuisine served with a side of excellent customer service!
I’ve only gotten takeout from here, so I can’t speak to the service or atmosphere (although I’m sure they’re fabulous) but the food is excellent. We’ve tried pretty much every curry on the menu at this point and none have disappointed. I’ll continue to explore this menu and hopefully make it in in-person soon!
Amazing Thai food served by a very friendly staff
The food here is consistently decent and they don't skimp on proteins/vegetables, but you never know what you're going to receive in terms of your requested spiciness level. I ordered tom yum soup as a 5, as well as the mee u noodles as a 5. The former was very spicy and probably would have ranked as an 8 elsewhere (not a problem though, since I love very spicy food), but the latter had NO spiciness or heat whatsoever. Not the first time this has happened, but Thai Spoon remains our go-to "backup" Thai restaurant in the South Hills when our favorite spot is closed.
Phenomenal place to have a night out with or without the kids. The food is always top-notch!
Some of the best Thai food in pgh
There are times when a person finally needs to post a review after several bad experiences with a restaurants food.
My wife and I have continued to support this business even when we have ordered food that was not consistent with previous experiences.
The most recent experience was ordering Phad Thai that tasted like liquid smoke was added to it.
I called the restaurant asking if they had any dish that had a Smokey flavor.
When they confirmed there was no dish on the menu with that flavor profile I asked why a peanut sauce dish would taste like smoke.
The person attempted to blame it on the spice level , and as a person who orders the maximum Thai spice level everywhere I order it was obvious this was not only a poor experience but the food was prepared incorrectly.
My wife and I will never order from this restaurant.
Thai iced tea soaked into every item I ordered and also the floor because it wasn't properly wrapped. I have a kidney infection so I'm not looking forward to cleaning this up. I love the restaurant but this is inexcusable.
just a note: Tom kha soup and Thai iced tea don't taste very well mixed together. neither does pad Thai.
edit:over half the of the tea spilled so I feel like I am out one iced tea too.
My favorite place to eat in Dormont. Absolutely love the Bangkok Curry
One of my favorite places to celebrate with my hubby!
Best in Pittsburgh!
I spent $90 plus a tip on a pick up order. When I got home two of the meals had veggies when I asked for no veggies or chicken. The guy on the phone even repeated my order back to me when I called in. My husband called in and asked very nicely if we could make the trip back and bring the meals back in exchange for what we ordered. The guy on the phone replied with “Not tonight” We also order meals at the highest spice level and they tasted the same as the level 2. Very disappointed with the food and even more with the customer service. This will be the last time I order from here and I’ve spent a lot of money at this place.
Very slow night there so can't accurately judge service. Food was very good. 7 out of 10 on their heat scale, our food was just into the heat zone and was very tasty.
It's just ok.
On a scale of documentaries to romances, Thai Spoon is the novel Teal Paisley Tights with quirky and delightful flavors.
Thai Spoon offers a decently-sized dining room, but our waiter Alexander is who truly made the experience extra marvelous. It was a slow night, and we had the dining room to ourselves though many stopped to pick up to-go.
Try the Golden Triangle appetizers! On a whim, my partner and I ordered them, and they are the most delicious surprise of Turmeric! We also enjoyed our entire meal, and we highly recommend the Salmon Mango Curry as well as the Spicy Duck!
While parking can be a bother, it's not hard to find, and it's generally free around the dinner hour.
A bit overpriced but well worth it
I have eaten here many times. It is one of my favorite Thai places in Dormont. I love the wonton soup. The drunken noodles are delish. I am not one for spice, so I usually only go for a 1 or 2. If you go low and decide you want more, they are more than happy to accommodate and bring you a nice chili sauce that you can add to give it more kick. The black sticky rice is the perfect dessert in my opinion. It is sweet and savory. With just a hint of coconut in the sauce. Being that I am not a fan of coconut, I still really like this dessert. Highly recommend.
After trying a new Thai restaurant in the area a week ago and being incredibly disappointed with the quality of the food, I felt like it was time to show some Google Reviews love for Thai Spoon. I've been dining here for years and have never had a bad meal. The atmosphere is unpretentious and cozy. The servers always have a welcoming personality. The food is colorful and flavorful. When a certain level of spiciness is requested they never tone it down, they trust your ability to handle a "Thai 10". There's a special home cooked quality to the dishes that I always find comforting and seek out when I want to treat myself and a friend or two. This is a lovely little place and I hope to continue visiting for many years to come.
Great Thai Food.
We ordered for delivery. We never received our rice with our curry order and the shrimp I got on my pad Thai was extremely over cooked and flavorless. The pad Thai itself was fine and we didn't wait super long for our order
Heard only good things and it didn’t disappoint. The food is fresh and delicious! The prices are affordable. We have tried most things on the menu and have liked it all. If you like spicy get closer to an 8-10 range.
Good food, small (cozy!) restaurant, friendly staff. Convenient street parking. Wheel chair accessible entrance, seating space and restroom.
Kitchen staff were very accommodating of 'vegetarian' requirements. It is said many of the Chinese and Thai restaurants serve vegetarian items cooked with sauce that is not fully vegetarian or vegetarian stock and cook vegetarian items on the same wok after they cook a non-vegetarian item, but this restaurant is more appreciative of vegan/vegetarian and considerate.
Tom Kha Soup was excellent. Mango salad has thicker pieces of mango, but still very good. Their Drunken Noodles are considered to be the best in Pittsburgh area. Massaman Curry had more liquid and less 'gravy', which made it seem like potatos in water broth.
Good food but expect a wait long wait time
Good food but pricey
The Vegan food is to die for! So yummy and really good service.
Food is good but the portions are way too small...
Fantastic food. If you don't like it somethings wrong with your mouth
Had Think Kai with chicken soup. Delicious. For my entree the had three flavor chicken. It was a little salty , but very tasty.
Consistently good, this is a great spot for Thai in the South Hills. I never really stray from shrimp pad thai, but it's always on point for me. Good flavor and spice!
The food is amazing. The prices are a little high any portion size is small.
Super friendly, but the Pad Thai just wasn’t right. Asked for 5/10 spice, got what I’d call 0/10 spice. Bland as could be and the noodles were pretty undercooked as well. Not sure I’ll be back.
The food is always good staff is always very friendly
Got good poisoning after. Not recommand
I tried a 30 day dry aged ribeye and it was the most delicious and tender piece of flesh ever must see
Best Thai this side of the river. Always on point. Always consistent. A rare find in just about any cuisine
I realized I have never reviewed Thai Spoon and feel I owe it to them. They're basically our favorite restaurant. I've had pretty much everything on the menu and always had a great meal. I eat primarily vegan now and they have lots of options. I ate meat previously and they have that covered to. They are BYOB which is awesome for a nice dinner out, and the take out experience is great too. Long live Thai Spoon!
Stop, stop cahier si visible sick
Great little comfort food place in Dormont. You can BYOB and the selection is great. I always get the chicken pad thai. Get the ginger or jasmine tea with. I love that they ask you about the level of spice that you want. Some thai places don't. The only thing I miss is the woon sen pad thai that they used to have.
This place has some very good food. Quick service. Clean restaurant.
Their panang curry 🔥🔥🔥
Oh my gosh, the food was unbelievable
Food is amazing, server was clearly inexperienced but was attentive, kind and helpful. Prices we acceptable for the quality. Facilities are clean and in good repair, but not a focal point, although we did discuss a particular wall color that was pleasing but in an indefinable way. Clearly the owners are very involved, and I believe are the ones making the food. The ingredients were fresh, and prepared with care. The selection is varied but succinct and in no way overwhelming. Each thing we ordered stepped up from the previous surprising us with increasing splendor. Everyone was asked what level of spice they wanted for their individual entrees on a scale from 0-10, and we had chosen 0, 3, 6 & 8. The balance between heat and flavor was perfection and no way a challenge of bravado and tolerance and everyone tried all 4 dishes despite the original preferences, with surprising satisfaction at each level despite the original preferences of each. We will return, and refer anyone who will listen to try out this jewel.
Service was super attentive and the food absolutely delicious!
A bit pricey but outstanding!
Delicious food excellent service
Most of the food tasted delicious. The spring rolls, however, had an awful chemical flavor- like there was bleach or something in the dish they used to make it. I like a lot of food from different places, and this was definitely not supposed to taste like that.
If you know someone who likes to pursue his interests at a somewhat self exclusatory place, and you don't particularly get emotionally enthusiastic about him--- TEACH HIM BILLIARDS !!! HA HA HA; Or let Kelly O'Brian teach him. !!! HA HA HA HA HA---- Sorry, I meant Killian O'Brian; ha ha ha ha
Nice, very. Hidden gem in Dormont area. Thai deliciousness throughout the menu.
Always had it for delivery and it has always been very good.
Delicious, great service. A gem of Dormont.
the staff is very nice, the food is absolutely delicious, one of my favorite places to eat! it gives you a "classy" feel without the high price tag. we love to walk down the street, have a mix drink or glass of wine ((BYOB)) at dinner, and walk home. hope they never change
The Bird's Nest, Green Curry, or Chiang Mai curry (in that order). Best Thai in all the land (radius of 20 miles of Dormont). Small venue that packs a huge, spicy, authentic punch.
best thai food ive ever had myself! staff is super polite, the atmosphere is very clean and sophisticated, its byob. i always order the 3 flavored chicken, and although smothered in delicious sauce, the breading is always super flaky and crispy, the chicken is always plump and never fatty, i end up eating every piece, and this is coming from a "picky" eater.
A favorite Thai choice in Pittsburgh area. Excellent food and service!
Best Thai food in Pittsburgh.
Excellent food. Brown rice offered. Vegan options.
First time at Thai Spoon and enjoyed everything. We were greeted quickly and our waitress was very friendly. Best of all, the food was incredible! The “three flavor chicken” was the best I have ever eaten. Also the Pad Thai was amazing. Lastly, the restaurant was cozy and wow what reasonable prices. We will be back!
Worst Thai food & service I’ve had in Pittsburgh. Was charged full price for my meal even though I ordered the cheaper vegetarian options. The waitress watched me like a hawk when I was paying/leaving a tip. I wish I would’ve went to another Thai restaurant in the area & saved $10 & the agony of feeling sick the rest of the night.
Excellent fast and friendly service. Greetings when entering, food delicious and plentiful. Friendly atmosphere wait staff very attentive. Awesome 😊 several meals to choose from the menu.🍽️👨🍳
Wonderful food and service. The atmosphere is pleasant. I truly marvel at the secret of how Thai chefs prepare fully complex and elaborate dishes, in just a few minutes.. And they're not charging very much for this magic..!
They have great food, but I would only go there for take out in the future. We have been there twice. The first time the manager and server got into a disagreement about how we were seated and the second time we had the worst server I have ever had at a restaurant.
Autumn was a fantastic waitress. Fastest service I've ever had. Food was also delicious!
Everything tastes fresh and homemade, gracious service and BYOB is a plus!
Unfortunately Google makes you pick at least one star but if I had my way they would get no stars it's the worst place ever for customer service I we go there every Saturday in get a $100 worth of food so this week when I went they totally messed order up so I drove all the way back from work to return And get the Right order the owner tried to tell me that I was wrong and that the order was right then when the idiot realized that the order was wrong she took the food in the back and stuck it in a Pan and just tried to mix it up so that we couldn't tell so that is not a way you treat a customer that has been coming to your establishment on a weekly basis spending a $100 we will never be ordering here again in if you are smart you wouldn't either Also they have my number and when I left in left without the food because I didn't want the same food just mixed up they didn't even call me and offer me my money back what a joke
Awesome BYOB Thai restaurant just south of downtown Pittsburgh. You can specify your spice preference on almost everything on the menu. If you like spicy be sure to let them know as their '10' is pretty mild.
Great stuff !!
Just ok
Drunken noodles are amazing!
The service altogether was good. However, i got a dish which was not cooked properly or under cooked. The cook got offended and it was a terrible experience.. June ruined our experience.
At first I was sceptical on trying Thai food, I thought all of it had peanuts in it. However after try the noodle soups and curries I was more than happy to be wrong. I was able to adjust my spicy level on the food to my liking and it was amazing!!! MAJOR recommend!
Great food, reasonable prices, service can be slow at times
Terrible service. People around me leaving because of the bad service. I stuck it out and the waiter brought out my order to go. Never seen anything like it.
One of the best hidden gems in Pittsburgh. Excellent food, excellent staff and cozy environment. I really enjoy spicy food and have yet to order the right "spice level" but even so, I have never been disenchanted with this place. The seating is limited so if you plan on having a large group, I'd show up around 5:30 PM for dinner. The seafood is fresh and the curry is delicious. I would have given 6 stars if it were available. Every plate I have tried from here has exceeded my expectations. This is a must try in the South Hills of Pittsburgh.
Had to edit my rating after husband and I both got sick within a half hour of eating here. Used to be one of our favorite places :( We also witnessed the waiter pour water from a customer's glass back into the pitcher he was using for all the tables because he accidentally over poured. Very unsanitary! Will not be returning to say the least.
The crispy duck was perfect.
Our favorite. We go a few times a month.
Solid Thai spot, underrated
We go to Thai Spoon all the time but they frequently do not have items as advertised on menu. I need some Lemon Cake people!!!!!
Best Thai food in Dormont! Always reliable and very delicious
Best Thai Food in Pittsburgh. Good price, excellent service. BYOB optional.
Quality Thai, friendly service, in an area of small cute shops. They must have had new hours, as we got there 20 minutes before closing, about 50 min before they were closing according to the online time. We said we didn't want to trouble the workers but they insisted we come in anyway. They served us quickly, the waiter was really nice, and our meals tasted great
Pretty solid Thai food for a reasonable price. Waitstaff very personable.
This food was not great, the massaman Curry was oily with not very nice beef.
Excellent service. Friendly. Food came out very quickly. Food is absolutely delicious. Drunken noodles with beef is 15 dollars n a very large portion. It's BYOB which I'm cool with.
Best the absolute BEST Thai food in the Burg!
Really great food
Horrible service. Food below average.
Nice Thai restaurant. BYOB!
Delicious flavor!
I don't want to rate this 5 stars because if more people order it's going to make me wait longer to stuff my face full of Panang Curry.
BYOB. Massaman curry with tofu was fantastic. The special chive dumplings were also delicious. Husband is not a Thai food fan, but really enjoyed the three-flavored chicken (similar enough to General Tso's for picky eaters or the less adventurous). If bringing a large party on a weekend evening I would recommend calling ahead for a reservation. We went before a movie at The Hollywood Theater and the location was perfect for dinner, drinks, and a movie.
Great food, the fried avacado apatizer was great!
Loved the mango and Asian pumpkin curry
Excellent Thai restaurant. The ambiance and service was excellent. The food was amazing and the Green Curry was wonderful. Would definitely recommend this place to others and would definitely come back here again next time we are in the area
