I absolutely love this restaurant! Whenever we’re in Philly, this is our must visit restaurant!
This place is amazing, the aroma is fantastic! It’s a cool place in Downtown and this place serves authentic Thai food!
This restaurant is one of those which have a separate vegan menu (which you can’t find everywhere).
We ordered vegan fritters and drunken noodles with Chatayee special green curry! The aroma of the food was amazing and food was so delicious!
This is one the must try restaurant in Philly!
Parking is extremely hard to find so try an uber or just walk!
What a wonderful, authentic, family-run Thai restaurant! My mom and I dined on a Saturday night (we made a reservation), and we had a delightful experience. One of the restaurant’s selling factors for us was their vegan and gluten free friendly menu items. Rio was our super helpful, friendly server. We split the Somtam // Traditional Green Papaya salad - it was refreshing, light, and had great texture. My mom opted for the Chatayee Kang Kewan curry, and I ordered the Kang Rawang Hed Curry (lots of mushrooms). Delicious, delicious, delicious - we couldn’t decide whose was better! Since we were starving, we nearly ate all of our dishes. You could easily split 1-2 entrees too. For dessert, we got the mango sticky rice to go - unreal. We will be back! Highly recommend + lovely staff.
It was about a 15 minute wait because there was a party before we came and the tables needed cleaning. The restaurant appeared short staffed. However, when the food came, it was hot and delicious!!! I thought the carrot peeled to make it lool like a lilly was a very nice touch. There was a lot of meat in my dish and I did not eat all of it, but I did have autumn rolls before hand which I also enjoyed. I would definitely visit again, if I am ever in downtown Philly.
Wow, really excellent Thai!!!
In town on business and was thrilled to grab a bite on a Friday night with the crowds hopping up and down the streets. I figure a line is a good sign of good food and that theory held up true tonight. We ended up walking and immediately getting seated for dinner service just before several other groups.
Service was awesome - very friendly and helpful. We ended up ordering some pad Thai and their braised beef ribs curry. That curry was absolutely killer… so good.
Overall, loved the scene, the food, and appreciated a great team working the restaurant. Would definitely go back!
We went out for a dinner. Food is excellent and authentic.Their place is spacious and their service is superb. You can share your plate with someone. We were not informed that there is an additional charge for credit cards. We highly recommend this place for Thai food lovers in Philadelphia.
Food was delicious! Will definitely order again!
Edit: Feb. 2025
It's been exactly a year to the day that we were here last time. We had such a good experience that we decided to come again. Excellent as the first time. Service, food, cleaningness. We'll be back again that's for sure!
Photos are the 2 vegan pouches, chicken skewers, fried tofu and slow roasted lamb. Brandy - Ginger cocktail and a vodka based one, perfect.
Thank you guys you're doing an excellent job!

1st visit Feb 2024:
After more than 10 times of traveling to Thailand I stopped counting. The food here is great, not too authentic but it has its charm. The tung thung is a must, made to perfection massaman was great, same for the slow roasted lamb. The raw mushroom dish was basically all the mushrooms out there in vegetables salad, Didn’t work out for us.
Cocktail menu is decent, can be more to match the Thai food.
Alli the waitress and the other staff were very nice and friendly.
We’ll definitely be back.

Good choice of food, great service
Tom Kha was basic but delicious
Beautiful presentation of food and delicious!
This was a great walk-by find on a very cokd winter's evening. Nothing about the restaurant disappointed. The service was outstanding and thanks to our server, Harold, we had a starter that was out of this world. The rest of the meal was similarly stellar, right down to the coconut sorbet. Could not have asked for a better meal!
Service was terrible. We didn’t receive all of the items that we ordered. The drinks came after our food. No one checked if we wanted another drink or needed anything. We were finished our meal for 30 minutes before asking did we want the check. I went up to bar to see if I could pay for our bill but was ignored. finally the waitress came to give our check and we were given someone else’s bill. Overall bad experience

Good food. Very slow service.
Excellent food and atmosphere.
Good service. Authentically Thai.
This is on my top 5 favorite restaurants nearby.
Really enjoyed our uncrowded, unhurried meal here.
Great tasting Thai food. Very good collection of vegetarian choices too. Nice ambience. Staff were very courteous
We ordered a spicy Kang Pha Kai and a medium Pad See Ew. The Kang Pha Kai was spicy beyond comprehension and the Pad See Ew was very mild. Aside from this great diversity in spice, the food was good. The decor is beautiful and classy, although a bit dark. Service is also great.
Served the wrong order, me and my wife was fine with it, as it was about equally priced but halfway as we are eating it one of the staff which was an older aged woman snatched the plate. Appalled but they gave us the right order instead of just leaving the half eaten dish. It’s whatever but as we are leaving the same old lady makes a comment in a rude and condescending tone saying “I hope you enjoyed your free meal” hilarious… this was actually a year ago and I just remembered it today and wanted to comment it. The rest of the staff on the other hand are excellent, but no props to the old woman.
Recently came to Philly with my family.and we were excited to go to this restaurant HOWEVER when we arrived there was no one to greet us or seat us. We stood there for 5 minutes and no one came to help out. We asked the bartender and server but they ignored us altogether.
I'd rexomm NOT to go here if you identify as a person or color.
The party of 3 behind my family was seated quickly. Yet we were still ignored.
Will not be returning to the place at all.
Nothing too surprising nor too bad.
One of the best Thai restaurants I've tried and certainly the best Pad Tai I've had. Great service. Elizabeth was especially sweet and helpful. A friend in our group who knows Thai food really well told me he was here a few years ago and the food was bad. He was very surprised at how good it was this time. Plenty of space for large parties.
What I didn't like was that it wasn't very child friendly and was very dim. But I highly recommend it anyway.
Fantastic food... They've got a whole menu for vegans and the food is always delicious. My favorite Thai spot in Philly. Service is excellent. The restaurant is spacious and beautiful. 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Our default Thai. Great - though a little on the pricey side and some orders sans sticky rice.
I ordered via uber eats but the steak pad thai was SOOOOOOO good! I went to thailand in december and this reminded me of the pad thai there. It was very flavorful and I got the least spicy and it was perfect. The mango sticky rice was also refreshing and yummy. I would definitely recommend if you’re visiting philly!
Oh wow. First timer and I’ve been converted! Lol food is 10/10 !! Pad See Ew is amazing ! Along with the firecracker! The restaurant was pretty busy, still foood came out hot and fresh! Service was great and the restaurant is pretty spacious with plenty of seating Highly recommend and can’t wait to come back!
Imagine the sweetest Thai Grandmother adopting you and feeding you the most soul-soothing dishes… that’s what it was like dining at Chatayee Thai. We ordered the Somtam green papaya salad, Thung Tong (Crispy pouch with pumpkin, potato, taro)…. Honestly, this appetizer took pumpkin to the next level… Chicken Pad Thai, Chatayee Kang Kewan green curry (with stunning purple potatoes), Kang SingHol Kaea with slow roasted lamb which literally feel off the bone in perfection! Definitely check them out!
We came here with a large party a while ago and the staff was so so accommodating and amazing! I was surprised by their vegan menu and loved the Pad Kee Mao and Autumn rolls! The food is amazing and the service is phenomenal!
Decent pad thai.
The food is average and male bartender here is pretty rude - makes you feel like a thief 😂
Excellent
They charge 3% credit card fees which never heard of.
The food was very delicious and the staff were very nice. It was my wife and my anniversary. Would definitely go again next time we're in the city.
One of the best Vegan Thai food I have had in Philly . Great food, service and ambiance. Highly recommend
I have both had takeout and dined in at Chatayee. Food is always delicious and I appreciate all of their vegan and vegetarian options (there is even a separate vegan menu!) The waitress I had was incredibly sweet, lovely, and knowledgeable of the menu! I was with a big group and she handled us with grace and ease.
Food and cocktails are amazing. Well balanced flavors.
음식 전반적으로 다 맛있음
Very authentic Thai! The best happy hour with the great portions.
We had a wonderful dinner full of vegan and meat dishes. Service was impeccable.
It’s a wonderful place to eat and have fun. A very nice atmosphere, very good attendant and wonderful dinner.
This is some of the best pad see ew I've had in a long time. The waiting staff was friendly and checked in on us enough to make sure we had what we needed, but not so much that they distracted from our conversation. I'll definitely be back!
My FAVORITE Thai spot in Philly, hands down. I’ve been there atleast 10-20 times and they never disappoint. Food is always on 10! Highly recommend.
Love the food, but the place is always busy, and you need to wait even to order take out
Great food but very slow service. When we arrived there was about a 30 minute wait. We were seated, and it took a while to get our drink order and to take our order. The food also took a long time to come out, and we had to constantly flag servers down to ask for things. The decor in the restaurant is immaculate and very authentic.
The massaman and roti, pad thai and pad kee mao were all really delicious! The Tom kha soup was ok, but I've had much better. The portions are huge. We all had leftovers. Would definitely come back again.
Came here to enjoy a birthday dinner and everything was great. The food was very tasty and the service was amazing. Our server, Ali, really made our whole dining experience the best. I would highly recommend Chatayee Thai.
Excellent food, good service, nice atmosphere. One of the best thai food restaurants i have been to.
Food was ok, I asked for Thai spicy and it turn out not spicy at all. Also take too long for 2 orders with no customer. 3/5 star.
First off, I love that they have a separate vegan menu that highlights the items from their regular menu that are or can be made vegan. Super handy.
Second, this was one of the best Pad See Ew dishes I've ever had. It wasn't just flat noodles sautéed in soy sauce. There was a beautiful aroma of basil in the whole dish as well, and there were plenty of other vegetables other than a smattering of Chinese broccoli like most places do. Also a good serving of tofu that helped it be quite filling.
The boyfriend also had some chicken satay skewers that he said were very tender and delicious.
Most of the other entrees on the menu were significantly more expensive and not what I would even think about trying, but the basic noodle and rice dishes were relatively reasonable ($18).
We came early in the evening on a Sunday, well before most people have dinner, so it was relatively quiet, and the servers were on top of it when it came to taking our orders, refilling our water, taking away dishes, and bringing the check. Very smooth service.
Would definitely eat here again.
Ordered entrees around 7:30 on a moderately busy Friday night and did not receive entrees after staying to 8:45. Our reservation was for 7:15. Very poorly managed.
Great customer service and food!
Good food, great service
Wow, really excellent Thai!!!
In town on business and was thrilled to grab a bite on a Friday night with the crowds hopping up and down the streets. I figure a line is a good sign of good food and that theory held up true tonight. We ended up walking and immediately getting seated for dinner service just before several other groups.

Overall, loved the scene, the food, and appreciated a great team working the restaurant. Would definitely go back!
Excellent service. Very nice, relaxed atmosphere. My favorite drunken noodle.
Pretty nice place with good service and good atmosphere. Food was ok just not great. But the service was great and the people were really friendly.
Food so, so. Spices were washed out. Prices on the steep side, but service good. Ample space and not too crowded
Their takeout food is the best, every dish I’ve tried are excellent. But dine in experience is not so good, a few (2) responsible people are doing all the service, and the rest are unresponsive and ignore your requests.
A little expensive but the food was excellent. I’ll definitely be back
Best Thai restaurant in Philly!
Hersey cok guzeldi
Awesome spot. Out go to when traveling in Philly. Food is excellent — try the curry. Owner operator — she’s walking around the whole time helping out her team. Go for the food - come back for the food and great folks.
Best authentic Thai cuisine in the area !!!
The food was amazing I would suggest everyone to try it once but I do need to comment on the staff service because we (group of 5) made a reservation for 9:30 PM even though we arrived 5 mins late we were told to wait for extra 10 mins there (I am not sure what was the reason for it).
Besides that everything was great the food, the ambience and the drinks.
excellent thai food, really enjoyed the food and cocktails. chef found out i've been living in thailand and made some great recommendations. highly recommended.
Best Thai food I have tried in center city Philadelphia. The food looked and tasted like authentic Thai cuisine. The Tom Kha soup was the best soup I've had in a while! If you like spicy food go for the Thai spicy option. The service was very good, the staff were well mannered and very helpful. I definitely recommend everyone who loves asian food.
The food was delicious. The service was terrible. They forgot our soups. When the soups arrived, they forgot the spice so they brought out a spice rack. Took 20 minutes to get the soul. Ordered standard Thai basil with egg on top, it came out without the egg so I had to wait while they cooked an egg, food for cold waiting. The manager and staff kept apologizing for all of the mistakes but did not offer any solutions.
The meal had great flavors though and would concede going back.
Attentive and friendly staff. Good eats!
excellent food and service from Ali!! will be returning!
We went out for a dinner. Food is excellent and authentic.Their place is spacious and their service is superb. You can share your plate with someone. We were not informed that there is an additional charge for credit cards. We highly recommend this place for Thai food lovers in Philadelphia.
Best Pad see ew I've had in Philly and their service is great. Only complaint is the really inconsistent hotness levels.
This place was amazing!! Great party! It was a little hot in their upstairs room.
Great food! Came here with some coworkers for happy hour. The happy hour starts a bit early but is still reasonable. There was a great variety of drinks and happy hour dishes. I especially liked the pork skewers and spicy basal vegatable fried rice. The house marg and Long Thailand Iced Tea (not a HH drink) were also pretty good. Furthermore, the restaurant was beautifully decorated and the staff was really friendly. They didn't rush us out even over an hour after we finished, which was really kind. Overall, I would definitely come back and am interested in trying some of their entrees.
Great vegetarian options
Friendly staff
Ate here with my partner spur the moment one night, had a very chill and memorable experience. Our waiter related a story to us about the mango sticky rice that we enjoyed. As a bonus the decor even feels immersive and legit even though I'm white AF and I'm sure I don't know what I'm looking at. I've been ordering delivery from them at least once or twice a month now since then.
1) If you're full omnivore, always get Firecrackers. Crunchy and delicious. Po Pai Koog is another great warmup option.
2) If you're vegan/vegetarian, never fear because there's a ton of toothsome options here for you here. The vegan menu is practically a mirror image of the regular menu, and everything I tasted was just as inviting.
3) The thai iced tea here is legit, I get it even at 8/9 PM even though I probably shouldn't do that so late.
4) Tod Mun Pla, Kang SingHol, and Boom Bai Kai are all very delicious. Going spicy in lieu of medium made me sweat a little but I felt alive, recommending risking a spicy dish at least once.
Everything else is probably just as good though, so enjoy.
Nice Thai restaurant, food was pretty good and big portion size. Service was nice and friendly.
The food was great. We ordered bom bai chicken and Salmon and Lamb. Salmon and Lamb was better compared to bom bai chicken. We also ordered chicken Satay which was great. Overall all the food was great.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
EXCELLENT food ans service !!
We went with out kids and we had an excellent experience.
One of our daughters is Celiac (allergic to Gluten) and they offered her several options. She had a great experience and enjoyed the food 😊
Great place for dinner! Food was delicious. Chicken satay and Firecracker was amazing. Loved the kang singhol kaea (lamb curry), kang leung pla (salmon curry) and chicken pad thai noodles. Boom bai Kai (Mumbai chicken curry) was okay.
Service was nice. The restaurant had a great ambience.
Ordered items: Tom Kha coconut soup, green curry with seafood (scallops, octopus), Tung Tong (appetizer). Everything we ordered was an absolute bliss! Tung Tong was one of the best I’ve had, so flavorful, just delish. The soup was a very good balance of coconut and lemongrass sourness. Final fish green curry deserves 10 stars, I’m obsessed with scallops - they were so fresh and soft, simply melted in my mouth. Butte but squash and blue potatoes cooked to perfection. I would say it was a sophisticated dish, very light. We came right after it opened so the place looks empty in photos, but it gets packed towards the night.
While visiting from RI, we went out on a limb and decided to try this restaurant.. we were not disappointed! The food was amazing but what made our experience even better was our waiter, Howard! He was so attentive and fun and took the time out of his day to talk to us and make us feel welcome. I can’t wait to visit again and go back!
Food and atmosphere was amazing must go here !
Among the top spots I had Thai Food, along with another place in NY (Thai Villa). Get the curry dishes. Everything I tried at this place was good, if not amazing. It did take us long to get seated, but the food made up for all the service shortcomings.
I had both the Pad Thai and the Boom Bai Kai. The Pad Thai was good. Not too heavy, over-seasoned, and nice. It was a little on the lightly seasoned side, but I prefer that over food being too heavy and hard to eat. The Boom Bai kai was really good. The curry was creamy, coconut-flavored, and herbal. It paired perfectly with rice. The Pad Thai was super savory and have a nice flavor of soy sauce and fish sauce, along with that signature Pad Thai stir fry taste.
My friends got the Panang Si Krong On, Kang Lewan, and the Pad Cha. They were all very good. Pad Cha was a little salty, but nothing too crazy. I thoroughly enjoyed trying all their dishes. Panang Si Krong On was soooo good. I could go a long time on how each were so good, but honestly you should just try it for yourself. I really enjoyed this place.
The atmosphere is good too. Ethnic, but also polished with fine-dining elements like dim lighting and table cloths. Our server, Melissa, did a good job of making sure we were accommodated with everything we needed. I will come back here soon.
Update 6/18/23- Visited this place again was was not disappointed. Quality was exactly like how I had it the first time.
I will suggest that you choose at least the basic spice level for any dish. If you ask to have a dish be less spicy than usual, they will water down the sauce/curry and reduce both flavor and spice. Just something to be aware of.
We got the chicken red curry and it was super flavorful! Service was excellent.
Chatayee Thai is located in a very good, centralized area in center city Philly. It's a pretty decent restaurant! A couple of friends and I came here for dinner on a certain night. We sat outside since we felt safer since COVID was around, but also weather was nice. There was also a live musician playing, so that was pretty cool!
Food
Lots of traditional Thai food that you would think of in a Thai restaurant, but definitely with a "chef" feel to it. The taste and seasoning were great, and the portion was a good size! The presentation of the food was definitely on point. I definitely would say it is slightly more expensive than most Thai restaurants, but not too outrageous. They also have a lot of specialty dishes as well, which I have yet to try (much more expensive). I recommend the Pad Thai or Pad Kee Maow (Drunken Noodles) if you want a solid dish and to be safe, haha. They do serve alcoholic drinks as well.
Environment/Service
Very dark, moody type of restaurant. They had tables lined up along the wall outside, which is where we sat. The service was about average, and could be better in terms of knowing the dishes and providing recommendations. Great place to bring a date!
Rating: 7/10
Pros: Super tasty food
Cons: A tad bit pricey
Chicken pad Thai: 10/10. Great flavor, great texture, kept well for the next day. I'd recommend extra limes. Nice spicy flavor, but like pepper spicy hot jalapeno spicy.
Mango Sticky Rice: bomb/10. Perfect sticky, perfect sweet, great mango.
Fried Rice: 10/10
I'm visiting Philly from LA, and I gotta say I think I like Philly Thai more. LA Thai tends to be on the sweet side, with more oils in each dish. I love it, but this is the first time I've had a seasoned, spicy Thai like this.
Very good. Distinct. Ordering like, every night while I'm here haha
great food, service and atmosphere, i highly recommend if you’re looking for good authentic thai food it’s just *chefs kiss* their drinks are also good and they do happy hour
The best vegan Thai anywhere! Amazing for vegetarian.
The food here was disgusting; literally could not finish it (and both me and my partner aren’t really picky). Both of our meals had the same strange aftertaste. Really gross. I don’t know how they have so many positive reviews.
I had the Prad Kra Prao and mango sticky rice. Couldn’t enjoy more! The service was also amazing. Highly recommend this place!
Perfect little spot
The spicy rice was real good😉
Fantastic fancy Thai place, great for going out with coworkers for a nice dinner out. I highly recommend the Kratiem Prik Thai, which was perfectly done: the shrimp and scallops were well cooked and not at all rubbery. I ordered level 'spicy' but would probably go for the 'thai spicy' next time because the spice level was more mild than I expected.
The Pad Kee Mao was also really nice, and the awesome part is you can order it with whatever protein you want, and even a combination of them. We got the chicken and shrimp combo and it was perfect. Again, would have ordered it a level spicier.
The only disappointment was the tom yum soup, which seemed like it was not made daily, and had some raw mushrooms in it along with raw tomatoes and other ingredients that told me they weren't cooked together. The broth was okay, and more spicy than everything else I ordered even though I ordered the same spice level for all dishes. I wouldn't order this again.
Overall good experience, just don't order the soups.
Really, really tasty Thai food with excellent service and neat atmosphere. I'll go back.
Horrible service. Spent approx two hours there, never received my drink even with reminders and questions, we were given the wrong appetizer, one with meat instead of vegetarian. Food was ok- would not recommend. No worth the hassle.
Great food, I had the lamb curry which was great.
Great food and service
This place is a treat. The atmosphere is casual yet classy and the food is on point. Highly recommended!
The menu options are an excellent value (vegetarian friendly). The dining experience overall is very pleasant. I highly recommend this restaurant.
The best Thai restaurant in Philadelphia. It's beautiful inside With colorful and ornate decor. The chandeliers alone are worth seeing.
Chatayee is such a great place!! The pad thai and kang lueng pla are my favorites!! Their teas are also wonderful!! Highly recommend!!
Delicious Thai Food, Vegan Friendly. They did substitute our spring rolls without letting us know. Luckily, we don't have any allergies. Seem to be short staffed, but hard working crew. Drinks were delicious.
Best vegan date night spot! Everything is good here.
So bad experience. Sweet and same curry taste. You can not order different items because it taste like you are eating same food. Sweet honey omg. American people do not like spicy food, it doesn’t mean that you will put sugar and honey everywhere.
Delightful surprise in Philadelphia. Comfortable, welcoming, low key setting with genuinely friendly service and exceptional food. Highly recommended
I've been to Thailand and ate thai food many times. Their food was delicious and reasonably priced. The staff was friendly and attentive and the restaurant was very nice inside.
Went here Saturday night for dinner. It wasn’t too crowded and didn’t take very long to be seated unlike every other place in this area of Philly. The decor was nice. The restaurant wasn’t noisy, so you could easily have a conversation. The lighting was very dim. Service was excellent and the food and drinks was great and reasonably priced. The short rib and lamb were delicious. I also really liked the roti appetizer.
I love Thai food and have been to Thai restaurants all over the world and most in Philly. I don't know why I haven't been to this one in person until last week. But this is a gem of a Thai restaurant. Really good and authentic food. Love the atmosphere and decor as well. Glad I found it.
So about the roti...😋😋😋 Autumn rolls and the Masamma (sp?) roti was sooooooo good!!! The wait for food is a bit long but worth it. Service is great. I wouldn't order this as take out bc you need the full experience. We ate soooo much good. I absolutely recommend and will return!
Great mocktails.
Got takeout and they forgot to put/mix the sauce in the pad Thai. So it was just a pile of white noodles and beef. The other pad Thai in our order was just oily. Yeah there isn't a single good Thai place in Philly.
Update:
Not a fan of their noodle dishes. Their Kang singhol kaea was amazing though. So changing from 1 to 4 stars.
Food was good they have a vegan menu which is always nice and the flavors are really bold. The mushroom dishes are really really good …
