Quaint BYOB establishment providing familiar rice & noodle entrees & bubble tea.
This restaurant is absolutely divine. You’re greeted warmly from the very moment you step inside this gem for Thai food lovers. Love the lush plants that outfit the space from top to bottom. And I didn’t spot a single gnat! Sadly the plants aren’t for sale, but they should reconsider that. The restroom is also beautifully decorated and cleaned. I ordered the shrimp dumplings, pan seared striped bass and Thai iced tea and devoured everything. Great for a solo lunch, date or weekend meal with friends or family. I can’t wait to go back!
I don't know why this place only has 4 stars. It's the best Thai food I've ever had, has great ambience (so many plants and pretty lights!), and lovely people working there. It's my go-to spot when friends are visiting!
I ordered the Panang curry with vegetables and it was SO good! Delicious, fresh vegetables, the curry was perfect and it was a huge portion! I ended up saving half of it so I could enjoy it again for dinner 🤣
ETA: We came back! Ate at the restaurant. This place is SO cute! So many plants, you scan a QR code at your table and the whole process is so seamless! We ordered the same meals 🤣 They were delicious!
Atmosphere: really, really cool. Love the plants. We went at a quiet hour and it was like sitting in a jungle. However, the room was very cold. Bring a light jacket.
Food: very tasty and well presented. Wide choice of spice level on everything. However, it was pricey.
Service: the people we interacted with were friendly, but there wasn't much interaction. We were left to a table and given water then left alone. There is a QR code on the table to scan. Unlike most places though, it's not just a viewing menu - you order from the link on your phone as well. Very unusual. They bring your food and don't check up on you until it's time to pay. The automatic 20% gratuity fee doesn't make sense either since there's really no table service.
Overall: good but expensive, very unique atmosphere that's worth seeing, and not for people who love the "customer service" aspect of dining out. Good for the socially anxious though. It was nice but I'm not sure I'd go back!
Extremely beautiful atmosphere! I have food allergies, so I was only able to eat the spring rolls with shrimp added and a peanut sauce, which was tasty but simple. I was happy that they were able to accommodate me with a meal, considering I was allergic to everything on the menu. If you have a coconut and/or so allergy, unfortunately, this won't be the best place for dinner. The rest of my dinner party enjoyed everything they ordered, though. The beverages were also really tasty!
Very cute restaurant with ambience and great food. So well decorated interiors. The food was also really great. We ordered Thai teas, chicken satay, red curry and pad see ew.
However they're short on staff and somewhat expensive. Therefore ordering is all via phone and bar code. Other than that there's not much to complain about this restaurant. If you're passing by the Philly suburbs and craving Thai food, this place won't disappoint you.

Forced tips.
The food was really bad, one of the plates was unfit for a human consumption.
I wish they were taking care of the food the same as they taking care of their plants.
Food is not consistently good. They often forget parts of our take out order. We will be going to a new thai restaurant from now on
Such a charming place! Cute interior, nice staff, and great food. An easy place to eat vegetarian or gluten free. Make a reservation for large groups.

Automatic 20 percent tip on dine in should be ILLEGAL. They make you order and pay on your phone and you have no contact with any server except when you are brought food. There was only one server for the whole store and they never checked on any single party. Portions are very small for what you are paying. We waited OVER an hour for our food which is ridiculous for the price and automatic tip. We also ordered all the same amount of spice on our dishes and received wildly different spice levels. The food however, was pretty delicious . The only exceptional part about this place is the beautiful atmosphere. Probably never come back unless in a pinch or if you have a lot of time on your hands.
The manager was terrible. They made a mistake with the order and were not willing to fix it despite us kindly asking. The manager was abrupt and rude. I have never left a review but this was outrageously horrible.
Automatic 20% dine in gratuity for no service, no option to remove the charge. Nickel and dime for every deviation from the standard menu order. Plants are nice. Hard to justify going back. What a shame.
If you don’t want indigestion, don’t eat here.
My family used to regard Coco Thai Bistro as something we were proud to have in our hometown. The food was lovingly prepared, the space and staff warm and inviting.
Something awful has happened to this establishment in the last few years. Dining in has become a reliably miserable affair, with no menus and the barest of unfriendly table service. Still, there was takeout.
For us, the final nail in Coco Thai’s coffin was their refusal last week to issue a refund for two carryout entrees that weren’t what we ordered.
I have perhaps never witnessed such disdain by a merchant for both its customers and employees as in Coco Thai’s written offer to refund me only the tip I paid for the entire meal rather than the charge for the bungled entrees — essentially asking me to claw a partial refund solely from the tip jar. I declined the restaurant’s offer and am instead disputing the charge through the card issuer.
Went there at 8pm to sit and eat. The woman said the kitchen closes at 7. I asked why it says 9pm on the website and she said “yeah, I know”. The front door was open and even had a sign hanging that said “open”.
We also told her we tried calling twice and no one answered. She said “yeah, not enough people here to answer”
Disappointing to say the least.
Change your website and your google page.
You took the time to put it on your door. But too late for someone who drives and parks.
Used to love this place. Heading to Rudees Thai in Wynnewood now. They have bogger portions and nicer people. Bye bye.
Prices are too high and tip is included
Tastes fine but extremely expensive Thai food. In the end, the business model comes across as greedy. Just ordering two entrees is guaranteed to cost a $50 minimum after tip & tax. That's not including: a salad, drink, appetizer, or dessert. After add-ons, a entree will likely cost $30+. Many good Thai places charge about half of that. Then there's the tip situation: you're forced to give at least a 20% gratuity. Ordering is done via cell phone, so there's no incentive for the waiters to provide quality service (since a good tip is already locked in). On the positive side: the interior design is really beautiful. Really. It's impressive. But five stars for Atmosphere isn't enough. Overall, still one star.
As others have mentioned, I remember the quality of the food being better in the past.
I’ve been ordering from Coco Thai Bistro for two years now, and while the prices are steep, I found it to be good Thai food for a suburban restaurant. Tonight I ordered the pad see ew, and it just didn’t have much flavor or substance to it. The presentation was even different. There used to be more egg in the stir fry, vegetables sautéed well and the meat chopped finely. This time it was the opposite, with vegetables quite prominent, very few egg, and a few pieces of meat cut large and awkwardly thrown in. It seemed like it wasn’t stir fried as long as it would take to let the ingredients cook, and become a flavorful dish.
Echoing the other reviewer, like calm down Begum, it’s just noodles? But I rarely eat out and love thai, and for arguably, the most expensive Thai food I’ve had anywhere (and I’m from California!), I just expect better.
Also, if you want take out you have to order off of their website with a credit card. If you order by calling the store, they said you have to pay in cash. That was just annoying bc while out and picking up a quick take out the last thing most people want to do is stop somewhere and navigate a website. Most other places, I just call and give my order. I also did not realize there is an automatic 20% gratuity — I walked in and picked up my paper bag from a kid watching her iPad. What service?
I hope the owners take these reviews into consideration because I feel far less likely to consider Coco Thai anymore given my experience and those I’ve read from others.
For all they hype about this place, my experience was mediocre at best. There is an automatic 20% gratuity charged to your order, which at first I was fine with because that's what I normally tip. But the entire waiter process is done through your phone. Tip is generally contingent on having a good experience with the wait staff, which was nonexistent. I got the Pad Thai which was solid but not great and certainly not worth $22. It tasted akin to classic takeout Pad Thai that I could have gotten for half the price. I gave 2 stars because the experience and food is not worth the price. The atmosphere is very calm and aesthetically pleasing with lots of plants which was certainly the highlight. Mediocre, pricy, instagramable.
Phone automated ordering system which is cool. Delicious fresh and flavorful.
Not too spicy
Gluten free knowledge and gluten free options include green apple salad and curry dishes.
This restaurant is absolutely divine. You’re greeted warmly from the very moment you step inside this gem for Thai food lovers. Love the lush plants that outfit the space from top to bottom. Has the Udon noodles, Pad Thai, Fried Rice and Coco Thai Basil. All with chicken
Food was avg for the Pad Thai, below average for the fried rice. All chicken was dry and overcooked. Fried rice was most disappointing.
Service was a bit shocking. Roof was leaking and left a wet table and floor next to us. One of the mason jars that was on the table was filled from the dripping water. Not even and attempt to mop it up or leave a sign indicating wet/slippery. Host on the phone told us to just come in for dinner and didn't need a reservation as it wasn't busy but hosy on the dining floor looked at me as if I had something offensive when I relayed what host on the phone said ( one was female the other was male).
Lastly, the automatic gratuity of 20% on prices that are already high seemed presumptuous. Dinner for 4 was $120 including tax and tip. Insane.
We were a party of 4, asked for a small plate for my 3 y/o. Flatly denied. Offered a take out box instead. Ran out of water with no refill on the carafe.
Not going back
I come back several times a year to visit my parents and ever since Coco Thai has been open ours been fresh, delicious, and somewhat expensive. This trip, the prices have gone up yet again and it seems some of the quality may be… lacking. Not sure what is going on: I ordered Evil Fried Rice and my sister ordered a curry. Her meal was delicious with lots of vegetables and flavor. My fried rice was lacking in flavor and visual appearance.
Bear with me- it’s just fried rice right? Well it costs about $22 or more depending on what you add. In the past the rice has been colorful with vegetables and eggs. But todays rice was mostly vegetables, a fair amount of chicken (that’s all fine), and a small amount of dried and old seeming eggs.
Maybe it was just my dish tonight, maybe it we just a fluke.
Our takeout order was right on time and easy to manage.
My wife wanted to go there for her birthday. We had been to this restaurant for dinner before but it has changed and not for the better. First, we had to use our phones for the menu and ordering. The waiter never spoke to us at all. Also on the phone menu was a message that a 20% tip would be included on the bill. For what? Also we were seated by the front window, which was drafty and it was a very cold night. Those windows need to be repaired or replaced. My wife told me after the dinner that she saw a live half inch bug on the wall behind me. We were charged a $5 byob fee, which was added to the bill before taxes & tip were added. That is not right. We will not be back! 👎🏻
Sunday closes at 9 pm. Says on their door and Google. Walked in at 7:45 and they told us they’re closed.
The food is quite good. It’s definitely the most expensive thai food I have ever had, but I guess they have to add upkeep costs for the shop somewhere. It’s a really cute restaurant, and I recommend it if you don’t mind spending extra money on food (on average the dishes here are about 50% more than other thai restaurants).
Pad thai and drunken noodles are tasty. Thai tea is good. We do like sharing chicken satay here. The curries are also delicious.
Local gem of a Thai restaurant. Byob.....
Had delicious salmon, vegetables, and rice tonight.
Came in, and there was no service, scan menus to phone… I can handle that.. only while we waited I saw a cockroach!!.. now I get it, there are live plant, it’s a restaurant.. but exactly for that reason PLS PLS PLS do your job with a natural (food safe) PEST control .. lost my appetite in an instant!
The food tastes so bad, and the attitude is so rude. We made reservations on 7:45 PM, but when we arrived, they told us the kitchen closed. They let us in after we showed our reservation confirmation. The food tastes so badly
I was thinking about dinner last night and bothered the more I think about it.
18% tip was included for a dinner we had to order ourselves on phone and were never checked on during. We even had to ask about Wifi when menú wouldnt even load from QR code. The only thing the young man did was “run” food out to us and clean up. It’s like going to Chipotle or Honeygrow. That shouldn’t require an automatic 18% tip. The option to add even more is ridiculous too.
The two women who sat next to us didn’t even know they had to also order after using the QR code on phone. No one ever told them too. They just sat there waiting until they called for help using the phone.
I love the food here, especially the drunken noodles, but I won’t be returning with this lack of attention to service.
I stopped in on a Sunday to find out it was take out only but saw two people eating inside the restaurant. I ordered lemongrass soup and salad rolls. It was extremely expensive and just ok.
Not worth the price. The place is very cute, but the food is average to bad. I have had a lot of Thai, and this ain't it. They add 20% gratuity automatically even though you order on your phone. Tried once, would never come back.
Wonderful flexible Thai food for all diets.
Interesting experience. Not very interactive with the staff, very digital and "non-contact" experience. Food was decent and felt clean but not worth the $$$ so probably won't be back again. Had high expectations but we were quite disappointed overall.
First time eating here! Food was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere was beautiful. We got the pad thai and chicken satay and it was amazing. The automatic 20% gratuity , and no menus at all was a bit much. Obviously have been to places with the QR code but most now offer menus as well, people sitting around us also complained about the no physical menus. Also took a solid 10 minutes for someone to realize we were standing there waiting to be seated. Had we known to go upstairs we would have. The server there was helping the tables around us with navigating the website menu which I found to be very nice of him to do.
This is not a review of their food, because we didn’t stay after finding their service to be very poor and odd. Menu is by QR code only. Order placement also via mobile device only. To place the order you must enter your personal information - no option to place an order as a guest. And for all this lack of service, the menu says that they will automatically add 20% gratuity for dine-in!! We found this unacceptable, so we left.
Very odd place you have to walk up steps to go to the restaurant. Then you sit at the table if you are looking for someone to take your order not going to happen. You will need to use a QR code. After sometime your food comes out but you have no server to ask you how was everything just a check up to see if you need anything NOT this place. Then the bill comes oh does the person hands you the check. How nice of him to show up. If their is no server how do you expect to tip. Oh they will add 20% for a tip without asking you any questions. Get ready to tip them what they want. This is America tipping is still optional not mandatory. Especially if they choose how much of a tip you will give.
When you tip a server that is understandable when you tip for no service that's when I have a problem. I don't agree with this tactics. Therefore, I will not be back.
lets start with the good. its super nice in here. it literally feels like are at an oasis. from the plants, the lights, the bamboo seats. it all fits and its nice. the food is food. we got the steamed dumplings. very good. a curry dish that was too spicy but still good and udon stir fry.
lets move to the bad and reason we wont come back. its all super weird. you sit down and there is a qr code to the menu. fine the menu's get all nasty and dirty anyway and its a waste of paper. But here you also have to place your entire order through qr code website. when you do all that which takes forever it then asks you to type in name email phone number and all this info. thats too much work. Im here to eat and relax. Then you see on the first page. 20% gratuity added. you get better table service at a buffet where they just refill your drink. atleast they ask if you need anything else. the waiter literally just drops off food and clears the table. god forbid they ask if you like it, if you want anything else, if you need more water or another drink. maybe get take out here if you want to avoid all this mess. but its not worth all that. also, they charge $1 for a to go container. fine again but at a certain point its just racking up the bill. when you order a dish you see the price. everything is extra. you want chicken extra, more veggies extra, different rice extra. its just too much. im good. i dont need to go back
very yummy food and a beautiful restaurant
Would recommend everyone to read owner’s reponses to critical reviews. Shows the attitude and explains the overall “we don’t care about you” vibe.
This used to be a friendly neighborhood restaurant. Now they are gruff and unfriendly. When we were there last night, they overcharged us $25. When my husband pointed this out, they didn't apologize but after some discussion, they did refund the money.
Been wanting to try this place for over a year and I finally got to try it out with my fiancé this weekend. It was soooo good. Everything was delicious. I loved the drunken noodles and enjoyed the ability to pick spice level. My fiancé's masaman curry and coconut soup were very tasty as well. The atmosphere is dreamy, of course. Will definitely be going back again.
Wonderful food. However, there is a mandatory 20% service fee, yet virtually zero service, a QR menu, and even a corking fee when you cork your own wine.
Expensive
Love the atmosphere, delicious food, great local spot. HOWEVER, I am really disappointed by their QR ordering system. We can't ask questions about the food, no one ever comes to check on us, and it has lost the warm touch it used to have. If at all possible, I recommend they reconsider this ordering system for in-house dining.
At one point in time we loved going to Coco Thai and we used to order from there during the pandemic many times. The food is good, however, with our most recent order, we have received some horrible customer service. The amount of food they give these days to their customers for the amount of money they charge per dish is really less! We order 4 dishes for a family of 4 and it was hardly enough for all of us. When I spoke with Ann (who apparently is the manager) she got really mad over the phone and got defensive instead of listening to us (the customer). Very rude customer service on genuine concerns about the quantity we received for the price we paid and hence I would not recommend it to anyone.
We have eaten here at least 15 times through the years and obviously enjoy the food. The upstairs dining area is one of our all time favorites. Having said that however we find the automatic 20% tip added to the bill inappropriate. And even more outrageous is the fact that we were charged a 50 cent charge for each of two “doggie” cups for food we were unable to finish at dinner. Since our bill already was over $100, this just seemed a little too much. The restaurant may lose customers just like us by trying to squeeze every penny out of its loyal customers.
Great looking restaurant beautiful on the inside!
My issues:
No waitstaff, you download the menu and have to navigate yourself through the menu. For a first timer like me it was hard figuring out things.
20% tip is automatically added to your bill no matter of the party size! Who are you tipping if you don't have a waiter????
$1.00 if you want a take home container???
WHAT????
It just felt like a Frontier airlines flight nickle and diming you for everything, I know times are hard for the industry but that's not the way to turn better profits..
Just my honest opinion..
The setting and atmosphere were really nice. But the food was just okay and quite overpriced. Plus, they automatically include 20% gratuity on every check. I found that very off-putting.
Overpriced and the value isn’t here. No service and they charge extra for everything including a corking fee (the first restaurant I’ve ever been to that actually does that! Greedy, greedy owners). I’d suggest you to drive up Mainline and find an alternative. There are countless better choice!
The food is above average for Philly suburb Thai. The problem is that they charge 20% tip no matter the party size and you order from your phone while
having minimal contact with an unfriendly server! The food is expensive ($20 for small-sized red curry and with 1/2 cup rice) so the 20% unwarranted tip is killer. I can’t support this type of institution.
We dined in Friday evening - have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Sadly, we will not be back. When I asked about the corkage fee (it is byob) the server informed us we could leave if we did not like it. When we were leaving and I asked if I could speak to the manager I was informed that she was busy and it would be over an hour until she could speak.
Authentic Thai cuisine and beautiful environment
Ordered vegetable drunken noodles ($20) for dinner and was given what amounts to the lunch portion of other Thai restaurants. Forced 20% gratuity automatically added even for a single guest.
Restaurant charges 20% “gratuity” but admits that it’s only a charge to offset the high cost of supplies, which is illegal since that 20% is not actually a gratuity. They do not even provide the service they are charging you for: you order your own food online. They also charge for takeout containers, which is a business flaw. If no other business has to charge for boxes, this business should not either. They are doing something wrong to have to charge this much and will eventually be reported and shut down for illegal business practices.
Three tables in a row arrived with reservations and this restaurant refused to seat any of them. They also refused to take any responsibility for their mistakes, especially considering that we drove out of town to come. Do NOT patronize this place. The owner and staff do not care about their guests. When we explained the situation, they told us "tough luck. Most of our orders are pick-up anyways."
I’ve been here before, and I can say that the restaurant has terrible customer service overall. Servers don't take orders, so you have to order everything from an app on your phone, which takes extremely long. To top it off, all bills come with a 20% gratuity automatically added on. Nobody is bringing you menus or taking your order, so what am I tipping 20% for—the ambience? After seeing the owner’s rude behavior, I'm skeptical that any of the money even goes to the actual servers anyways. How could it? If the owner refuses to acknowledge mistakes, refuses to give so much as a voucher for a free drink, she’s probably to cheap to pay her employees a decent wage, which explains all of the mess ups.
NEVER GO HERE!
The food is good and the atmosphere is really cool (a good spot for plant lovers) however it felt overpriced. And a bit like a budget airline where anything they can is charged extra. There was a mandatory 20% tip imposed for dine in, but you enter your own order into your phone so you were doing some of the typical work waiters do. Then most dishes are priced with extra for protein ($2-5 extra for chicken, beef, duck - I admit if you picked tofu that gave you the listed price) and when we asked for takeout boxes to take the leftovers we were charged and extra $2 for that. So a nice meal but it sure added up to a pricy lunch.
Very good food. Love the plants. But there is no service. And they charge for service. Customers order for themselves on the phone. A holdover from Covid which isn't necessary now. And the ordering app is very confusing. My dining companion and I spent all of our time figuring out how to order, ordering and waiting for food. Not a pleasant experience.
We loved the tilapia with massaman and crab fried rice, so delicious! Very friendly staff. The online ordering is easy to use and staff is helpful
Coco Thai Bistro is your small, local, community restaurant. The atmosphere is charming, surroundings of natural vegetation and greenery throughout. The food is delicious. Those are all the pros.
Cons:
1) Mobile Ordering: The ordering is done entirely on your smart phone. We asked for paper menus, but were kindly turned to our smart phones. No waiter service aside from having your food served. Upon checking out, you are asked to fill out your name, email, phone, and if you want to "subscribe". Just like a YouTube channel.
2) Fees: The "fees" charged to your bill are horrendous. There is 20% gratuity charge to the entire order. Even with no waiter service. A dollar is charged per box for a small container for any leftovers. Now, you are debating if you should finish your food or just leave it.
3) Additional Tipping: On top of the 20% waiter-less gratuity, after paying, there is a line for "additional tip". The audacity to ask for more even after a required tip is jarring. This has left many customers questioning if it's even worth giving any business.
4) Rude Host: Whoever answers the phone for reservations is curt. I had to call twice just to make sure a reservation is made. It was briefly debated how well the restaurant would be if the host is brusque and impatient. I still felt wondering if a reservation for the right time was made.
Summarizing, the food is delicious, but expensive. Bring a charged smart phone, otherwise you may have to order upfront. Be aware of the excessive fees. Gouging customers to pay more is not a way to do business, especially when this restaurant is located in a small niche community. If you aren't old school or traditional, then making a reservation online would be easier. It is a small opinion, but this restaurant is operating on a slippery slope; that is to be out of business. It is also understood that due to things outside of control, such as, Co-vid and the pandemic that prices would be higher, but charging customers for more than just their meal is not a smart, long term business strategy. *Attempts were made to discuss with restaurant about these issues before this review was written; was dismissed briskly and told to write this review online.*
Good food terrible service. and they charge you 20% for you to place your order yourself. Food came out cold and took forever to warm it up. Just asked for it to go. Not going back
Made a reservation for five people for 7pm on a Saturday night. When we showed up we were told that we couldn't eat as they were too busy. They made no attempt to call and cancel the reservation (they had my contact info) and were in no way apologetic when we showed up. We like the food and were good customers but we will never be back.
Service was awful, food was even worse,it's a shame that the lights and the abundance of indoor plants didn't match the rest!
Food was good, if a bit overpriced. But waitress rushed us out, saying that table had another reservation. Inexcusible.
A little on the pricey side but was definitely worth it. Great atmosphere and food was delicious and authentic.
I enjoyed my time here, as it was a nice time out with the family. If you don’t like plants, this place isn’t for you haha, you’re basically surrounded by them which I liked. With my food, I had the Drunken Noodles with duck, and a 3/6 spice tolerance. This place’s spice level is higher than you think it is, so keep that in mind. Everything was really good, would definitely come back!
Excellent food in a wonderful setting
The decor featured a lot of plants that give the tropical vibes. However, the food was overpriced along with a mandatory 20% gratuity which was not quite justified by their service.
Is a lovely lovely place, you can field the nature and the air is really cute place for a romantic evening, the food was great and I don’t give it the 5 stars because I’m really picking with the service and they don’t really offer any service and they charge. the price is good for the food and the place 😍
I ordered soup and a curry. All the vegetables were raw in both dishes. The guy upstairs seemed not to care
I've been here many times but will not come back again
Don’t come to this place! The food is okay and the environment is nice, but the server is so rude. The dish is already on the pricy side, and they force charge you 20% tip, with no service at all. You can’t even see the server throughout the dinning experience. And they didn’t even tell you they charge for a to go box until you see it on the bill. This is absolutely horrible and just steals your money. Will never ever come again
I used to love this place. Frequent it with friends and family at least once per month pre pandemic. Food was consistently good. Went back last night and was very disappointed. Not with food but more with the service. The lady who was sitting people down was extremely rude. After we got a table no one told us we had to order ourselves on our phone through digital menu. Ordering is not a problem for a younger generation but I can see how my parents or grandparent would have a hard time figuring it out. They also add tip to the check!!! Adding automatically a 20% tip on a final check is unacceptable!!! I used to be a server and a bartender years ago and I tip well but I do not want to be pressured. Besides there was no service, and no interaction with a waitress. She brought the food out. That’s it.
Icing on a cake - they charge for containers to take leftovers home!!!! $3.18 for 3 boxes. Doesn’t sound like a lot but the food is already very expensive!!!! You gotta have guts to charge people for a box to take food home!!! Not going to be back. Felt ripped off.
Wonderful little restaurant located in downtown Narberth, PA. Great selection of very tasty Asian food that is priced right. Highly recommended!!
Great atmosphere and food.. but adding automatically a 20% tip on the final check is a bit unacceptable and defeats the whole idea a customer choosing the tip
Terrible customer service. Used to be so good. Wouldn’t even let me order food. Not helpful at all and rude.
Coco Thai used to be my favorite place. I just revisited yesterday since they finally have inside dining available again. They now only offer online menu and it took us good 10 minutes to get four dishes and drinks selected, that was annoying. We came with kids so not everyone had a cell phone. Food was good and then when they billed us, they tackled on automatic 20% gratuity AND still had a a line for “additional tip”!! And for what? For us ordering by ourselves off our phones? We got no service but were presumed to tip 20%. And our stomachs felt a little off later that night. Sorry Coco, I will be looking for a new Thai place in the area :(
The portions were HALF the size of what they used to be. When I called to complain (our take out boxes were 1/4 of the way filled) they gave me a hard time and would not credit me anything! WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I have ever experienced. EVER!!
Wildly overpriced, food was good, nothing special for the price and the service was ridiculous. I’m ok with digital meals but we had to order through phone, they automatically add a tip for any size party even though the waiter does what a normal food runner would. Atmosphere was pretty I will give it that but not worth the rest. Will not be going back
Delicious food.
Lovely atmosphere.
It took us a long time to get the check and be able to pay.
We used to eat here almost every weekend, and it has been a few years. The menu has become much more limited, particularly when it comes to appetizers, but the main courses are still exceptional. I had drunken noodles with rice noodles and duck. My husband had green curry with duck. Both were served promptly, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. It remains our favorite Thai restaurant.
Came here for dinner on a rainy Monday bc we heard such good things. My friend and I were seated and we had no clue you had to scan a menu, so we were sitting there for 30 mins and Noone came up to us. Finally we asked someone next to us and they told us to scan a menu. Our waiter vivi came and we told him we didn't know we had to scan a.menu his response was oh you never been here before? Ummm no. Our meal came with no extra plates or utensils. We had to ask. After out meal we were talking and enjoying our wine. WE GOT ASKED TO LEAVE! The waiter vivi said they have another reservation coming and the place was EMPTY. The guests next to us said omg did he just tell you to leave?!! Bad experience and rude customer service
Love this quaint location. Food is delicious. Bring your own wine if you like. I would eat here every day if I could.
Consistently delicious.
Nice place, a real hidden gem! I'm a real fan of their coconut shrimps soup and even all their shrimps offerings. Absolutely delicious, everything was fresh and wholesome. Highly recommend to try their shrimp dumplings. Staff are really doing great job, well done!
Food was excellent, server courteous. However, they were blasting music from the kitchen while other music (presumably for the diners) was playing at the same time. I asked the server to please request the music be turned down. But halfway through the meal, the music was turned up again. I do realize good professional help is hard to find these days and this was apparent here.
Delicious Thai food, good service, and a beautiful atmosphere with lots of green plants make this a one of a kind experience
LOVE Coco Thai!!! The food, the plants, the staff, the compostable to-go containers....simply the best!
My most favorite restaurant. I have been going here for years. Food is always Outstanding. I like vegetarian options and they do have great things to eat for the vegetarian also vegan options as well. Like home cooked food from Thailand. Excellent I highly recommend.
The foods are authentic
Coco Thai Bistro was featured on TikTok as a hidden gem. The atmosphere was beautiful. It reminded me of a restaurant I went to in Bali. The food was mediocre at best. The coconut soup with shrimp was good. The crab fried rice was boring. If it weren't for the extra heat it would not have had much taste. I tried to get a sweet sauce to balance the heat out but all they had was peanut sauce. The most disappointing part of this experience was the service. There wasn't any. You ordered through the app. Someone did deliver the food and bring water but they were absent for the rest of the time. Getting the sauce for the rice took a long time because we had to wait for someone to appear. I felt like they were still operating in "pandemic mode". I prefer dining at restaurants where I am waited on. That being said there was a 20% gratuity added to the check. I usually tip at least 20% but that's when I'm not doing all the work. The gratuity, appetizer, and rice was over $50 for lunch. Not worth it.
Amazing food, atmosphere and service. Will definitely be going back!
Food and atmosphere were fantastic! Panang curry and Drunken noodles both with the most tender chicken I’ve ever had. Would recommend to anyone who loves Thai!!!
The food is really good, best drunken noodles and penang curry. However, they really scam you out of your money here. $5 alcohol fee if you bring alcohol, $1 per container if you have leftovers, and automatic 20% tip is included (even though a server doesn’t even take your order, you order on your phone). They don’t compensate by lowering entree prices by a dollar considering the amount of fees. But its good food, and ambiance.
Delish! Great homemade Thai, which is hard to find in this city. Decor is beautiful GREAT date spot. Food could of been more flavorful but the chef keeps it very safe given the neighborhood and demographic
I had the worst experience ever in my life I went there today with my family I ordered the red curry with veggies & my daughter ordered the drunken noodles with a bubble tea, my daughter took 1 sip of the tea & didn’t like it intern I told the waitress she didn’t like it she told me she couldn’t do nothing about it so I asked to speak with the manager after I noticed the tea was still on my bill which was ($150) with the 20% gratuity) so the manager came out & I told her the same thing she tells me that I should of said something when I first received it “ I said I did “ after I said that she got furious & said YOU ORDERED YOU BUY & walked off come to find out after my research she was the owner I will never go there in my life or recommend anyone I know to go there worst customer service I ever experienced…
The ambience is lovely. The food is very delicately spiced and delicious. Only thing that I didn't like was there is no paper menu and you have to do everything on a smart phone.... If you are smart enough!!! I'm old fashioned I guess. When I go out to eat I want to be served, not have to struggle to figure out how to order what I want.
I really hate to leave this review since I’ve frequented for both dine in and take out often. I was here for dine in tonight and as my husband and I were sitting upstairs in their dining area we saw a MOUSE running around the room. The waiter also saw it and had no response. He offered us to go containers and gave us our bill to pay out. When I mentioned it to the woman in the downstairs area (I did so quietly since there were others eating) her response was “that’s out of my control”. Not one time did anyone offer us an apology or anything. Disgusting and I will never be returning.
Very polite and friendly staff, the food is amazing(spice level just right!) and the atmosphere is gorgeous!!!
10/10 would definitely come again!!
Yummy as usual beautiful decor!
We have ordered from this restaurant several times and the food is very good. However we called tonight, in the requested time frame, to place a large order for a Mother's Day dinner and the order was declined. When I called the restaurant I was told that they had a backlog and were not accepting more orders. The woman I spoke with was not particularly apologetic or kind. We were very disappointed and surprised at the way we were treated by this previously lovely restaurant.
Coco Thai was featured on hidden gems of PA and it didn't disappoint. The coconut shrimp soup, shrimp dumplings, pad Thai was all delicious. Cozy little place with 2 floors and outdoor sitting filled with plants. Don't forget it's byob and if you never finish a meal (me) you can also bring your own Tupperware to bring it home!
Delectable food. Distinctive and green decor . Accompaniments serving size was very small for price .
great thai food, friendly service with a unique plant-based atmosphere.
Would not give my service to this establishment again. It is segregation to only allow vaccinated customers to dine in and I do not support that.
Food and service was excellent, shared the striped bass special with green curry, pad Thai, and coconut soup. My one complaint is they add a 20 percent tip on top of the corkage fee and tax. I think that's plain wrong.
Pre pandemic, I loved this place. WAS a friendly, cozy and quiet BYO with an uplifting atmosphere.
I made reservations to go post pandemic.
We arrived to find the only seating was on the second floor, which is not ADA compliant. My walker depended mom wouldn't be able to easily sit. (Strike one.)
Then they asked us to use a QR code to access the menu. I don't have or want a QR code thing on my phone and shouldn't have to download an app to order food. Some people (me) have vision issues that make online ordering unpleasant. No paper menu option. (Strike two.)
THEN the waitress points out that there's an uncorking fee for your BYO.
NOPE.
I draw the line at that. (Three strikes.)
We were out of there.
Additionally, the second floor only seating put us right next to a very loud table in a very cramped spot.
When I asked to be seated on the first floor telling them about my mother's disability (not to mention my own issues with stairs,) and the noise level I was told there wasn't a server for the first floor. So, my disabled mother should have to climb the stairs because your staff wont?
I was told I should have asked before making the reservations. WHO EVER WOULD ASSUME A RESSTARAUNT ONLY SERVED ON ITS SECOND FLOOR?!!?
When I asked if there was any other option to order aside from "online," I was told no.
Some people don't have phones. What do you do then?
As for uncorking fees.... that's ridiculous.
IK I may be coming across like an uber-karen... For which I am truly sorry. I'm especially sorry and apologize to the waitress for my bruskness and walking out. The waitress wasn't at fault for anything, and she got stuck with my airing of displeasure.
I hope the owners see this review and recognize that they need to make some changes to keep customers.
The food is (probably) still wonderful, BUT the place is no longer "user friendly." A real shame.
The best Panang curry chicken I’ve ever had!
Best Thai food in the area. Never disappointed
Best Thai food ever!
I visited friends in Narberth in December, they highly recommended Coco Thai Bistro, so we gave it a try. I had the Panang chicken curry with rice, it was delicious, the best!
Miss Evelynita our server was the sweetest girl, food was all fresh and warm, I'll go back for both!
Overpriced, mediocre food, annoying decor, and bad service with enforced 20% tip. Plus you have to use the confusing smart phone app to order and if you make a mistake they are ruthless: “be more careful next time.” Won’t be going there again.
We order takeout from Coco Thai several times a month. Hands down the most delicious, FRESH made Thai food you'll find in the Philadelphia area. No MSG, which a few of our family are very sensitive to. They have just the most delicious authentic flavor. Try the duck Pad Thai, Green Curry, Drunken Noodles, Crab fried rice, any of the soups, or anything else really. We've never had a bad dish. Also, they use sustainable takeout packaging, which is excellent. Yes, sometimes their takeout estimate time is a little off, but it's because they're making the food for real. Well worth a few extra minute wait. 5+ stars regardless.
I am giving this restaurant 1 star because of their service. Food is actually decent, but they can't get their sit together. Ordered dinner for pick up and was told it would be ready at 6:15. I arrived at 6:15 and order wasn't ready. Was advised it would be another 20 minutes. Went back at 6:40 and still not ready. Finally ready at 7:05. If this was the 1st time that this happened to me, it wouldn't be a big deal, but this is the 4th or 5th time. Not going back anymore. If others would follow suit, pretty sure they'd get their act together.
Good, fresh food but very expensive compared to other Thai places. Also, asking for "Thai spicy" gets you a little extra pepper.
Thai Spicy Cabbage Salad, Massaman Curry, and Coco Thai Basil. Can definitely recommend all of them. We did a level 2 on all. The dressing on the salad was excellent. At 2 there was enough spice to give the flavor and a little heat on end but not a lingering heat. Atmosphere was great with the abundance of plants everywhere. I just wish it was closer to home
Absolutely love this place! We have tried a lot of Thai restaurants in the area and this is definitely one of our favorites. The portion sizes are substantial and the food is so FRESH. The atmosphere is also lovely! The staff has been always been very nice as well! I love that proof vaccination is required to enter the restaurant. It brings me peace of mind during these uncertain times. I just wish they were open a little bit later. Overall, 10/10 would recommend this restaurant!
I brought my family party of 12 to Coco Thai Bistro the day before Thanksgiving with an advance reservation. My whole experience was excellent. The staff communicated with me promptly and took our reservation in advance to ensure our in dining experience went as smoothly as possible. I appreciate the care the staff takes to require vaccine proof to keep everyone safe. When we came at our reserved time we were seated immediately. The staff provided us a beautiful extended table on the second floor that was perfect for our needs. The food was delicious, the spice levels fit our diverse group, and we all loved the ambiance. I would highly recommend Coco Thai and look forward to our next visit.
Was visiting the area for the first time and was met by a rude women with an apron on. She didn't greet just began to holler where vaccination card. We were masked but she told us we could only eat there by showing vaccination card. Well we live out of state, didn't know I needed to have it with me to eat at this place. Then I asked could we get take out, she stated she can't put the order in, go scan an app. I have never been treated so rudely at a Thai restaurant. The place only had one couple eating there and the rest empty chairs. I see why they don't have alot of business.
Dined there with a friend early on a recent Friday. The waiter told us the menu could be accessed only on our phone using a QR code and that is also how we placed our order. We struggled for a while..... it was difficult to view the menu using the QR code so I asked the waiter if there were any paper menu we could look at and if he could take our order.. He said no. We struggled another 10 minutes and finally the waiter came over and took our order. All this time he had one other table he was waiting on. Very rude. I’ll never go back there.
Gets better every time! Great atmosphere
Charged for a twisted to bottle of wine. No one explain to us that you have to order on the app
I’ve been here an hour and a half after ordering service is abominable
Food is amazing, staff are amazing. Hostest Ruby is so helpful to me! 5 stars for her alone, if I could give this location 6 stars I would
Boring. Nothing special, popular because of location only
Can’t believe we waited so long to check out this local staple. Food was excellent, staff was great and the ambiance was perfect for a night out.
🇹🇭🥥 Coco Thai - Narberth. We got the Evil Gaga ( wonder why it is called Evil... it's not especially spicy...) with Shrimp and the Masaman Curry with Duck (Masaman Curry- spices with coconut milk, carrots, broccoli, onion, green beans and bell pepper) I felt incredible full after lunch here. Both extremely delicious Service was great. 🦠 If Covid safety is important to you then this is the place to go. They require proof of vaccination for inside and outside dining and staff was all masked up. The have the most incredible living plant walls I have ever seen... especially for a small space.... like eating in a rainforest.🌴
Coco thai is one of my favorite fast-casual that's nearby my home! Food is delicious and they tend to add have more vegetables in the dish which I love. Food is always fresh and they are quick. If you get a chance to eat here, they have an amazing plant aesthetic inside and outside of the restaurant. It feels like you're eating in a garden!
The best thai food I have ever had! The quality of the meals never change, no matter how busy they get. I also have a gluten allergy and called to let them know and the woman on the phone was so kind and helped me pick a gluten-free dish off of the menu. An overall wonderful place to eat or get take-out.
Super cute restaurant , great service, everything is clean and food is so good!
This place has got an amazing atmosphere. I must say they have very professional and polite staff. Dumplings and curry is just amazing..
Absolutely love this Thai place!
I rarely make the effort to write reviews, but this place was just amazing. I was craving drunken noodle and took a chance trying Coco Thai out and I was not disappointed! The mango sticky black rice was great as well! The interior is full of plants, which gives the the place a nice natural welcoming vibe to it. I also like how eco friendly they are from the paper straws to their takeout containers as well. The staff was polite and attentive. Overall great experience!
Pros:
- This bistro is a power house of clean air with plants all over the place.
- Plenty of veg and non-veg options.
- Dumplings both steamed and fried are must have.
- Do not forget to have bubble tea, it is nothing but yumm.😍
- Polite staff.
- Clean restroom.
Suggestions:
- The food can get a bit bland so select your spice level correctly.
- The quantity of rice with the dish should be increased.
- Selling plants could be a good business model.
Always fresh and perfectly spiced (and spicy)
So pretty! Good food too.
This place is awesome. The food is delicious. The staff goes above and beyond. Unbelievable customer service. They opened a whole floor for us because outside was too hot for my 2 year old. This is all on top of the exceptional food compared to the 30+ Thai places I’ve eaten at over the years.
I rarely post, and food is great, but we waited 2 hours for an online order, and they were very rude to my wife and I. Beware of your time.
This is my favorite Thai restaurant in the world! The pad Thai is DIVINE!!!
Was twice served cold entrees! Manager could only apologize but did not know what was going on in his establishment. Eat here at your own peril.
Best curry I've had in a decade. I'm not exaggerating this was by far the best Thai food I've ever eaten and possibly one of the best meals I've ever consumed. Got the frickin Panang curry and it was perfection. Service was also fantastic I would for sure go again but probably only like once every few months cuz it's way too pricey for me, but ended up being worth the money.
