I've eaten here several times. Food is amazing in general. This review is to warn you specifically about the Basil Duck dish...please leave duck to the Chinese. It was dry and had bell peppers and onions on the side...who the hell cooks duck like that?! Order anything else besides the duck.

And seems more authentic, less American, which is something I look for in an enjoyable sushi experience! And other Members of my dinner party had Thai food and they seem to also really enjoy it! (Ask for mild or no spice if you don't like the Thai heat, very hot!!)

Then we stumbled on Makin Thai! Very small place but easy access and parking, no wait mid day mid week, great wait staff; friendly, cheerful, and knowledgeable. Food was delicious and plenty of it! Moved Makin Thai to the top of our list.

We ordered 3 different Bento Boxes and a Spider Roll. The Spider roll was incredible. So flavorful! Never had the option to have Pad See Ew in a bento box before! All of us loved it!

Update 01/22: I went in around 7pm and was told I wouldn't be able to order to-go, although their closing time is listed as 8:30. Unfortunately will impact my future orders. Went somewhere else.

Wow, I am so impressed with this restaurant! I love that they serve Thai and sushi in one stop. The packaging is thoughtful and beautiful. They even vent anything that needs it so it doesn't get soggy (ex: pot stickers). The portions are great and the food is just lovely. The chicken satay was so tender and flavorful, possibly the best I've had. The sushi was top-notch and just delicious, as were the dumplings and pad thai. Will be back!

Dont get the tempura or peanut sauce! The tempura batter was really thick and not right. Like a donut?
I got the pad thai and it tasted burnt. I asked for a side of peanut sauce for the pad thai and it tasted really weird and chemically, not like peanuts.
I usually like the Pad See Eew but maybe they changed cooks and its not as good anymore?

Best sushi in the area!

I've eaten sushi all over the world, specifically many spots in Oregon. This restaurant unfortunately does not have the best sushi. If Gas station is 1 star and a typical good sushi place is 4 to 5 stars in regards to quality, this restaurant is 2 stars. Equivalent to my local grocery store sushi. Not worth the price, if the rolls were $3-$4 then I'd consider coming back. Also hilariously asked for (x4) spicy mayo, they gave me one after I paid and i tried to charge me an additional transactions and pull out my credit card for an additional $0.50 spicy mayo when they messed up. Not worth it overall. Take this review for what it is and nothing more.

I visited Ma-Kin Thai & Sushi for the first time to meet a friend for lunch, and it was a great experience! I was craving Thai fried rice, so I ordered the Thai Basil Fried Rice, while my friend went with the Pad Kee Mao. Both dishes were delicious--perfectly flavored and cooked, though I could have asked for mine to be a bit spicier! The service was quick and friendly, making the meal even more enjoyable. I'll definitely be back to try the roast duck fried rice next time!

One of my favorite spots to get Thai food, I love having the choice between Thai & Sushi, I usually get both. My favorite would be the Pad See Ew & Red Dragon Roll, also the Pad Kee Mao is delicious. If you want to try a couple things, I definitely recommend their bento 🍱 deals!

Yellowtail and tuna rolls would've been a 5/5 if it had the scallions on it lol. But the fast service and kindness made up for it!

I rarely write reviews but we ate here tonight and it was the best pad thai I've had in years the goyza were perfectly done, nice sake selection, I had a hand roll and am guessing all the sushi would be that good. Service was excellent. We will definitely be back!

Ma-Kin Thai is hands down the best Thai in Portland. I am picky about things being too sweet, too Americanized. And quality. THEY NEVER DISAPPOINT. They have a dish that I cannot even talk about because I fear too many people will catch on to just how damn good it is, that I cannot live without, my family actually had an intervention , so basically, if you like really high quality food, excellent flavor profiles, are kinda snobby about Thai(or food in general). This is your place. Love it sooooo much!

We’ve gotten take out here a few times. Each time was mid afternoon so they weren’t very busy. The food has always been excellent, especially the Pineapple Fried Rice with Chicken. The staff were capable but not particularly friendly.

Amazing experience

Delicious food. Had the spicy yakisoba special and it was wonderful. Ordered hot spice (4) and thought it was appropriate. Im a spice fiend so I added a little chili powder to make it perfect.

Nice neighborhood restaurant for a great quick sushi bites and Thai fusion mix. Loved the Bento Box Options. I would recommend for friends and family to come check it out.

The food was okay. I got the lunch special in beef. There was little to no flavor. Kind of like they didn't season anything.

The sushi was fine, but expensive for what it was. An eel roll is 12 dollars 😅.

A hidden gem. The Thai food was well balanced and tasty. My wife had a Northern Thai noodle dish that was every bit as good as the best Thai we’ve had in our 17 years living in Portland. The sushi was well crafted, the rice was perfect and the fish was fresh. Just enough garnish to be interesting but not overpowering. The staff was very chatty & friendly. The service was quick despite being very busy at the time. I could hear the kitchen hollering and making a racket (which always makes me feel at home). I found this place after reading an article where the owner of Le Pigeon listed it as a restaurant that he likes to take his family. Spot on, we will be back!

If there were an option to rate this restaurant zero stars, I would choose it. Unfortunately, that's not possible. If you're African American, I strongly recommend avoiding this restaurant. I visited it twice, and the service was incredibly disappointing. The person who claimed to be the manager, named "Mai," provided us with no attention and seemed irritated by serving us. I asked her what the problem was, and she replied, “I know you people. You guys order food and change your mind at the last minute.” I was shocked and responded, “What? 'You people'? You don’t even know me. This is my second time here.” In my 30 years of life, I have never experienced discrimination based on my race. "You people!" I was hurt and felt terrible. She's narrow-minded, and it's disheartening to know that people like her exist.

The food was absolutely amazing but the service was horrible I don’t wanna sound like a Karen but the one individual that claims as the manager said “I know you blacks you change your minds a lot so make up your mind”.And she continued to laugh it off I can’t believe that she said that in front of my children and continued to laugh it of I will not accept my children bieng exposed to racism at this age. My wife was very shocked and was crying last night.

We chose this place spontaneously when driving, it was nice to finally find a place that serves Thai & Sushi in one. I’m usually picky when it comes to Orange Chicken dishes but this location’s was genuinely actually my favorite, the sushi was delicious. Everything was just fresh. Staff was sweet. Will be back :)

Great little Thai place. Had salad rolls and cashew chicken for lunch. For 2 people is was a great value. Food was very good and service was perfect! Love the curries and sushi as well. We'll be back soon...so much to try.

My wife and I visited this restaurant for the first time.
The night before we wrote out a list of restaurants we wanted to visit the in our area.
The service was bad, but tolerable. I noticed the other 2 table got the same level of bad service.
Regardless of the service I always leave a tip about 10%

Unfortunately, when I reviewed my bank account and receipt from this restaurant. I noticed they increased the tip to 15% without my knowledge.
That could be considered….

Look at your bank statement and check and keep your receipts.
It’s only a few hard earned dollar's right, but it’s also much more to me if it’s removed from my wallet without my knowledge!

I love their food. I order on GrubHub all the time. This was my first time in the restaurant. It was full at noon. Clearly everyone's on to this little gem.

We have visited on a couple of occasions, and tried the pad thai and a sushi roll. Everything was just perfect! The avocado rolls were shaped like teardrops and arranged in a cool little circle like a flower. Great place!

It was the first time we came here. We took 3 different rolls: spider roll, Philadelphia roll and salmon tempura roll. We felt like spider roll and salmon tempura roll tasted very similarly. we decided to sit outside, I’m very glad they have this option. The staff was very friendly and the food was delicious, definitely recommend you this place, we’ll come back and order other meals for sure.

I asked about the ingredients in the tempura batter and she said she only takes the orders and gives it to the chef and she cannot ask and the sushi chef only knows the ingredients and he does not speak English so they cannot tell me. I left. I am cruelty free so I need to know what I’m eating and since they would not tell me what they are putting in their food, I had to leave and not eat there. Very disappointing and weird you cannot tell your patrons what ingredients are being used and cooked with.

Milwaukie's best-kept secret! Excellent decor and atmosphere for dining in, and easy ordering for takeout. This is our favorite sushi spot in all of Portland. I love that I can get either delicious thai food or excellent, well-priced sushi.

Crying Tiger Beef was excellent. Spicy, sour, and cooked perfectly. Sticky rice to accompany is a must.

Been wanting to try this place, for our first try we ordered 2 Thai dishes that we hadn't had before, at the advise of our server, and both were really good. So glad she recommended these. Service was nice and friendly. I like spicy food and never know where to start out, went with a 3 and it was great, could go higher but I might stick with 3 for now, she even brought us some Thai chili powder in case we wanted more heat. Spice levels are real here. I saw they have bento boxes with a mix of sushi and Thai, so excited to come back to give those a try, perfect for those "do I want sushi or Thai today?" No need to choose! We'll be coming back to this hidden gem. So glad it has some heat!

Along with the most excellent Hammachi Toro, this place had some of the best tasting miso soup I've ever had.

I was disappointed that their food and service went down since I first visited this place.

I order chicken pho. It didn't come with any herbs. I asked for hosin sauce and they didn't have that either. The chef tried to offer me some alternative sauce but the waitress stopped him. I don't know why she would do that....

Y'all. I have been driving by this place for the last couple of years and never knew this gem of a restaurant was so good. First time eating here. I lived in northeastern Thailand for over a year, and I just had the best Bu-plalah papaya salad since I was in Thailand. I asked for 5x spicy, too, and I got it! The perfect pairing to my Thai fried rice with chicken and Thai tea. They weren't able to do a half order of the papaya salad as I initially requested, but I was able to finish it, and it was honestly worth the full price. If you love authentic taste in your Thai food, PLEASE COME AND EAT ("Ma-Kin") at this place. You'll be happy you did!

This place serves the best Thai food I've had. It's very small so I always get take-out but the atmosphere is good for casual dining. My food is always fresh and flavorful and hot. Never tastes like "take-out" food. Give it a try. I think you'll like it.

Most of the time I would give them 5 stars, but a few weeks ago I ended up with food poisoning from them. It's the first time that happened and I have eaten there many times. The restaurant is very clean, so I was really surprised. I will eat there again eventually, but I need some time.

It's a new Thai restaurant. I loved the selection of dishes. I chose the orange chicken and really loved it. The cashew nut dish was also good. The crab rangoons were really good. I totally recommend this place.

My personal favorite sushi place around. I just wish they were closer. Fish is fresh in-fact everything is fresh. It’s worth the extra money to get good quality sushi. The last thing you want is to get sick from eating raw fish and here it’s not even a thought. Easiest 5 star review I have ever left.

I was in the area and thought I would try this out. I had the Las Vegas roll, and it was fantastic. I also took to go a chicken drunken noodles. I took off a star because I asked for milk spice and this was way too hot for me. The flavors were wonderful but i could not eat it.
