Authentic Thai food
Our sister- and brother-in-law took us out to this favorite of theirs, and it did not disappoint.
I saw the dish I wanted to try at another table and asked Conor, our server, what it was. He said it was the Khao Soy Ca. My blank stare led him to follow up with, “The third one down on the Specials section of the menu.” That’s the info I needed, and that’s what I ordered. He also said it was a very popular choice, and I can see why.
Sorry for being slow on the draw and for not taking any pictures of the dish, but it was excellent, as was the special tea with coconut milk that paired well with the main course. My thanks to Conor for recommending both items.
This experience showed my wife and me we need to have more Thai food in our lives. I would order the exact things again because they were so tasty.
We’ll be back whether we’re seeing family again or not!
Believe me when I say this place is so damn good! I haven’t had much Thai food so I had a lot of questions about the menu. Server Paul was so helpful and kind and ensure very quick service as well. Definitely one of my new favorite spots!
An excellent dining experience <3 the servers were attentive, positive and helpful, but not over-bearing; the food was delicious! I love peanut dishes and got the peanut lover dish - simply awesome. The peanut sauce was organic and very flavorful, the veggies fresh and crisp. My sweetie had panang curry and he loved it. He got heat level Very Hot, which is the 2nd hottest level they offer. He likes his curry very spicy and was not disappointed. This is a little hidden treasure in our neighborhood, and we're looking forward to returning soon :)
We ordered take-out. Pad see ew with pork and Massaman curry with chicken. Pad see ew was dry and bland, the curry was flavorless and curry sauce was clumpy. Ate a few bites and threw it out. Counter service at pickup was friendly. Cant comment on the atmosphere.
The server was very kind and I could tell he was doing his best. It seemed like they were understaffed because our order took a long time to arrive. The food, however, was extremely overpriced. Noodles were overcooked and soggy, the rice was pastey and wet and not at all sticky rice. Our order was supposed to come with jasmine rice and they gave us soggy "sticky" rice. The chicken was the only good thing here. I would not come again.
We stopped in at Chao Pra Ya today for the 1st time for a late lunch and had a very pleasant surprise! Even at 2:30, there were still 6 full tables and Eli who was the only server at the time did an amazing job in managing our expectations! He was friendly, very professional, attentive and inquired on our Thai selections and satisfaction. I had the Red curry with mango, squid & chicken in a coconut basil curry. The curry was fabulous, as it was deliciously aromatic, mangos ripe and sweet, which complimented the coconut red curry. The squid and chicken was subtle and not over cooked! My wife had a seafood combination with scallops, mussels, shrimp, chicken and a variety of fresh vegetables. And this too was a symphony for the senses! We finished off with the black chewy rice topped off with mango & coconut cream! We plan on going back to sample their other specialties, hopefully, soon. These delicious Thai dishes were made even more amazing with Eli's service! Kudos Eli! Highly recommended!
I've been going to Chao Pra Ya for years and it's one of my favorite dinner spots in Eugene. They have a wide selection to choose from and they are a model of consistency. You can't go wrong with any of the standard choices and they have a great specials menu as well. Parking can be a bit of a challenge when it's busy, but there is plenty of street parking available.
The restaurant itself used to be an old diner and you can still see it in parts of the external signage, decor, and layout. It can serve a few larger groups (6-8) but make sure to call ahead for reservations. It's a nice atmosphere, even when it's busy. I definitely recommend it, especially if you're in town for an event and you need to get some food that's away from the main traffic areas.

Food I believe is cooked by non Thai staff as evidenced by cilantro on top of dishes no Thai seasoning and vegetables are basically raw in short the food sucked dont eat here. It isn't Thai food.
My server Kamyl went above and beyond with my experience. Highly recommend this establishment to anyone wanting food.
They were busy when we arrived, but they helped us as soon as they could. We were constantly updated on the status of our order and received an apology when it was delayed.
Believe me when I say this place is so damn good! I haven’t had much Thai food so I had a lot of questions about the menu. Server Paul was so helpful and kind and ensure very quick service as well. Definitely one of my new favorite spots!
Food was very delicious, and prices were good! I was disappointed that they did not have Coca Cola!
New favorite restaurant! Best service and food was amazing! Couldn’t eat it fast enough it felt. Lol
Will make this a regular thing now!
The server was very kind and I could tell he was doing his best. It seemed like they were understaffed because our order took a long time to arrive. The food, however, was extremely overpriced. Left here full and happy. Paul was very knowledgeable and made sure my pad se ew was perfect. Food was great and I love it spicy and he made sure a great job making sure I got the right level!
Tasty food and sauses! Recommended
Kitchen staff and front of house went above and beyond to accomodate me today. Delicious food as well!
Great food and amazing service, they aren't afraid to spice up the dishes and everything we got was amazing. Our server, Kamyl, was able to make great recommendations and was extremely attentive and efficient. Can't recommend this place enough if you like traditional Thai food with an attention to quality.
Som tom for the win
I came in recently and a lovely meal. Our server paul was outstanding. Felt like talking to a friend.
I love this restaurant and the waiter, Paul S., who took care of me the other night was awesome. He was quick and wonderfully attentive. I give the restaurant and the waiter five stars.
This is one of my favorite Thai restaurants in Lane County. And the atmosphere is typically friendly. Last night, it was extremely busy.
While we are out meal, we overheard, shouting by the front register. We learned after that it was the manager. She shouted at a customer, who waited patiently for her pick -up order.
I got up to see if she was okay. She shared she was told by the manager it would take "10 minutes." Evidently, it took more and it was 1/2 hour later. All she did was ask how much longer it'll take. And the manager shouted at her, loud enough that we overheard it from our table, which was approximately 8 feet or more away.. The manager told her it was taking longer because they were busy and short staffed. The customer said that she wished that the manager should've informed her sooner rather than later and she would cancelled her order and gone elsewhere. I was taken aback and surprised that there was a lack of professionalism and customer service.
Amazing experience all around, food was amazing and came out fast, Not too expensive and there was enough for leftovers after. I was served by Peregrin and he was excellent. He kind, professional and very attentive.
This was a good place. Very original to its culture. Would go again and again
I love this place, it has some of the best Thai food in Eugene.
Tina was really nice and thoughtful and presented a great atmosphere with a great attitude.
Be careful when selecting heat preference. What they say is mild is not mild. When they say a little heat, it means a lot. Try for yourself. But I was not expecting a wee little bit of heat to make me sweat and cry! 😂
Ch-Ch-Chao! I like this place so much. I does not give me lower GI complications like some others.
I had the spicy squid and 3 strawberry bubble teas. Our waitress was a delightful gal, her name was Isabel but we called her "Izzy". Her service was exemplary.
Decided to try a new Thai place for my Birthday tonight. We really enjoyed it here. The food and service were both great, and we will definitely return.
I’ve been on a Pad Thai hunt lately and lots of good places, but this so far beats them all! Perfect!
😋
I’m sorry we waited so long to try this place! Isabel was awesome, friendly, and efficient, and didn’t steer us wrong with her recommendations! The rice and woon sen had delicious smokiness to it, and the khao soy was outstanding. Will def be back to try some more dishes.
Great place for a lunch meeting. Food is amazing, the wait staff is attentive, and it is very clean inside. Drawbacks are limited parking, and they are in an area with a high homeless population. It is worth it though.
My wife and I's favorite spot in town. Consistently delicious. The khao soi is our favorite. Isabel was a lovely young waitress
My favorite Thai restaurant in town! We order take-out once a month and it never disappoints!
lemongrass chicken was a whole experience
If you've had authentic Thai food before skip this place you're going to be sad. No chopsticks or traditional Thai condiments on the table should have been a red flag to leave. Masking lack of flavor with absurd heat and serving raw chicken with over cooked broken rice noodles sums this place up. I've experienced a better atmosphere in a hospital waiting room, no one wants to watch infomercials while eating at a restaurant.
food was great and isabel provided good service! definitely coming back for the pad see ew again

Good was so good!! I can't wait to go back!! Made for excellent leftovers too!
Love this place. It’s my current favorite restaurant in Eugene. They never believe me when I say I want it spicy😂 I am from St. Louis and I am used to very spicy food, apparently to the locals here it is too spicy and the servers always warn me that there are real Thai people in the kitchen which just makes me love it even more. The ingredients are fresh, the flavors are amazing & authentic, if you stress that you are serious about the spice level they can accommodate, the atmosphere is super pleasant and the help is top notch. Love you guys!
Always great food and great service.
I didn't eat but it's popular on grubhub
Hole in the wall Thai restaurant. In the funky Whitaker neighborhood. Fun atmosphere. Good food.
Our favorite Thai restaurant in the area! Portions and service is spot on. Food always tastes fresh, lucky to have this gem in our neighborhood.
We always love our visits to Chao Pra Ya. We moved to salem a couple of years back and we have been unable to find any Thai food that compares. Silver noodle salad is my favorite dish!
I got take out the other day and the restaurant was nice and clean, the staff were friendly, and the food was so good! I will definitely be back! 🙂
The green papaya salad is excellent.
They had some problems a few years ago but the last couple of visits have been fantastic. I'm not an expert, but they have the best Thai food I've ever eaten. Great food, reasonable prices.
Isabel was our waitress and she is just the sweetest! Thank you for a delicious dinner! Been coming to this restaurant for years~always great food!
I love the food every time. Never disappointed.
Order the Khao Soi. Close your eyes and you are in Chiang Mai.
Food is always fantastic! Excellent service, clean and cozy atmosphere. This is the best Thai spot in town for the $$. My husband and I had our first date here 8 years ago and we still eat here consistently.
We have been wanting to try Chao Pra Ya since we moved here in 2018 and for some reason we never got around to it, wow was that a mistake. We just ordered a ton of options off the menu for takeout and I have to say this was some of the best Thai food we've ever eaten. Now we want to try so many other options on the menu! We ate way more than we were expecting! Thank you Chao Pra Ya!
Everything is good here try the coconut shrimp
This place is- by far- the best Thai food in Eugene. It's quickly become my favorite restaurant in town.
Pad Ke Mao had enough Thai basil and it was absolutely perfect!
I'm a 'regular'. If you want great Thai food and decently sized portions (as in, enough to take home for a second meal), Chao Para Ya won't disappoint. The atmosphere is casual, not fancy. Staff are friendly. The spice level can vary as chefs change. Ask the server for a spice level assessment if needed. Skip the parking lot and park along the curb across the street instead. I got the panang salmon. The sauce is delicious.
The salad rolls with peanut sauce are DELICIOUS
Great food. Always humble service.
Lunchtime menu is expansive with options.
Used to love this place… first time back in a year and it wasn’t the same. Food tasted like it was sitting out and just reheated. I knew something was different when I walked in and didn’t smell the delicious Thai food smells… you hear pans cooking food but no smell. Suspicious.
Chao Pra Ya makes my favorite Pork Pad Thai, and you choose the heat level. I always order a side of Warm Peanut Sauce for the Pad Thai. The Chicken Wings are very juicy and perfectly spiced. The Beef Mussaman Curry has Potatoes, Carrots, Onions, and Peanuts and this dish is spectacular. The Crab Rangoon is a beautiful delicious bite that is a Fried Wonton stuffed with Imitation Crab Meat, Cream Cheese, Bell Pepper, Onions, Celery, and Water Chestnuts. The Sweet and Sour Dipping Sauce makes it even better. The food is fantastic and the service is amazingly fast.
Everytime I go there I get take out. And it's always good, fresh and hot. Their thai wings are so good 👍
They had the take out done on time and the Pat tie was good.
I have loved the food here since I moved to Eugene 6 years ago...the service is friendly, prices reasonable. The portions are huge so go ahead and share yours!
This is our favorite Thai restaurant and the service has always been excellent!
But today was different. My mom had complained about how our soup was missing many ingredients and not tasting like the usual Tom Yum soup. That’s when we were made aware that they have new people being trained in the kitchen and that the manager was not the one who made our food today. Which is fine, we’re completely understanding that there are trainees in the kitchen. The problem was AFTER the waitress went back to the chef to report the feedback , all we could hear is loud obnoxious laughing and talking in their language. My mother said she saw the chef peek over the counter at us ( we were the last ones in the restaurant) and then go back to laughing out loud.. it was honestly really hurtful to see that behavior as we eat here often and we NEVER had any issues with the chefs and staffs like this before, As the staffs have always been so wonderful.
But besides today, We’ve always loved eating here and the staff is so friendly and food was always so delicious. We are hoping that if we do come back next time, this won’t happen again all because we complained about the food not tasting the way it usually does.
I have been eating her for 20+ years.
Isabelle helped my friend and I have the most amazing dinner experience. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and kind through the entire evening.
Excllent food and fantastic service. Conor was our server; he was probably the best server I have ever met.
The food was spectacular and so was Conor's service. I'd give 7 or 8 stars if I could!
One of the best if not the best Thai places in Eugene! I learnt my lesson the hard way when I ordered "Thai Hot". For first-time spice-heads, start with "Very Hot" before diving right into "Thai Hot". Be warned, "Thai Hot" is no joke.
Ordered the dumplings and the fried spring rolls. There's not much flavor to either dish, although the dumplings were more flavorful than the rolls.
Also ordered the Rad Na, and it tasted like every other Chinese restaurant. No spice and little flavor.
The server was fantastic, quick, and attentive.
Beer taps were also not working.
Overall, 3 stars seem fair.
Flavourful and delicious food
Good spicy food. Excellent service, I asked for Thai Hot but it was only hot. Somewhat disappointed . Service was great though like always. Tks. Will give 5 stars next time they make it Thai Hot like I ask.
Update.... they made it Thai hot this time around.
SIXTEEN DOLLARS FOR TOFU PAD THAI!?!? Why are we paying big city prices in EUGENE!?!?
Great food and drinks
Went for dinner, service was friendly and helpful. Food was all delicious and dinner portions were very generous.
- Highly recommend the mango stir fry
- Very hot was pretty spicy, so don't order Thai hot unless you are sure of your spice tolerance.
The food is amazing and fair prices. The curry was perfect and the drinks were great too! Servers were patient with me and my friend when we ordered and I’ll definitely be coming back soon and often!
Outstanding food, drink and service!!!
Their Pad Kea Mao is my absolute favorite, love their bubble tea but the bubbles get stuck in the straw lol. Appetizers are on point we had the Shrimp Rangoon and chicken potstickers. Their customer service was courteous and nice.
Forgot to take pics of the main meal because I was so hungry lol.
Great people and a large food range, easily covering Vegans and Vegatarians as well as those who want fish or meat options. Wait staff are well versed and very nice, well worth a visit.
Nice thai food, with a solid menu and good execution. I got the very hot, looking forward to trying the "Thai hot" next time.
Amazing food with great portions, our server Connor was fantastic and friendly. Definitely coming back
This place is absolutely amazing. One of my all time favorite restaurants. Our server was conner and if you ever get him you're in good hands
Holy cannoli, Connor made our friggin night! Excellent service and great food!
Conner was our server, and he was amazing! From helping with recommendations, great menu knowledge, and a great attitude, this place is so lucky to have him! Not to mention the food is just to die for. Authentic Thai if you’re looking 😁
Asked the waiter to bring the heat with my beef salad. Didn't disappoint. My sister and neice seemed very happy with their food as well. Waiter was great. Not overbearing was helpful and very personable. When I said hot hot he listened. It was a great time and can't wait to take my wife and kids there.
Pretty decent hole in the wall. I always passed by it and finally stopped in. Huge variety on the menu from stir-fry to noodle plates. The spicy plates come to a spice level, highest being the Thai spicy. Atmosphere was outdated and need some dazzle dazzle but it’s a nice lowkey place.
The service and atmosphere was really nice. However, we were bit disappointed with the food items. We ordered chicken wings, pad ga praw, lemongrass chicken and crab fried rice. The chicken wings were bad, it was well cooked but it didn’t have bit of Thai taste. Pretty blend. The lemongrass chicken was like a fried chicken, I thought we would get a curry based chicken, but it was just tasteless food item. I am not even sure why is it called a lemongrass chicken when they don’t even have a taste of any lemongrass. Pad ga praw and crab fried rice was okay, I would give 3 star for those two items.
I am still amazed on how people consider this place a best Thai food in town, may be I was expecting a bit more from Eugene, but well I tend to forget that it’s a white town, taste buds are different :)
Staff were friendly and provided a lot of suggestions and the speed of service was great. Planning on take out in the future.
Very good food. Huge selection
This is really good food!
Hands down the most delicious Thai spot in Eugene or severely underated. The tofu on fire at a medium heat was a religious experience that all should partake in. Service was speedy and friendly even coming in 30 mins to close. What a treat this place will be to come back to and find other culinary treasures as the menu was stacked.
Second place this month that I picked a place we'd never ate and was pleasantly surprised w the service and food! Love the teas as well 😁
Portions are very large. Food was spiced as ordered & tasty. Service was excellent. My overall rating is 3 stars because the Pad Thai was mostly noodles. They could add more tofu and a lot more vegetables - there was some broccoli. Doubtful I'll return - I'd rather pay half & get half the huge portion.
Short version: Great service and food! We recommend the green curry and eggplant garden.
We were traveling on a road trip and stopped by Eugene to eat before it got too late to eat at our destination. We made a reservation for our larger party and they were very responsive and communicative about the closing time and how they didn’t want us to have a rushed experience. They were still willing to take us and we were able to order ahead of time on the phone.
We were able to get the food promptly when we arrived and our server was very attentive in making sure we got whatever we needed. Food was great and the portion sizes were plentiful. We especially loved the green curry and eggplant garden. I would have posted photos if I could but our group was quite hungry.
Honestly the service and care here was much better than many many restaurants I have been throughout my travels and I have been traveling a lot!
I hope Chao Pra Ya continues to thrive and we’ll be sure to visit again when we can when we are in the area!
I've been here several times and always had excellent service and food, but tonight when I was a bit down and out and showed up near close they took care of me. Food was perfect, hot, and service was professional. I really appreciated it.
Best Thai food in Eugene. My uncle said that it was the closest thing to eating in Thailand.
The food was amazing, ordered the peanut chicken and green curry both were scrumptious! Service was friendly and attentive. Only thing less than stellar was the Thai tea was way too sweet.
Love the chicken pad Thai. Also try the Thai tea, it is delicious. Short wait times
We got the fried pumpkin appetizer, pad Thai, and chicken pot stickers :) All the sauces were delicious and the food was tasty
Really nice American Thai food
Delicious food!
My boyfriend and I went here for a lunch date, and arrived about 2 minutes after they opened. Our waitress Casey was awesome and sat us as soon as possible. The food and drinks we got were wonderful and full of flavor, and we were well taken care of. I got a strawberry Boba mimosa and it was super fun to drink! We got a sampler plate of appetizers, and it had this coconut curry chicken skewers that were so good.
We definitely plan to come back again.
Quizical
Very disappointed by our takeaway food. Our pad thai had NO sauce at all, just white bland noodles. How do you forget to add pad thai sauce to pad thai?!?! Once doctored by sauces in the fridge at home it was edible but definitely NOT pad thai. An unfortunate waste of money. :(
It was the best Thai place in Eugene. It's sadly going downhill. The garden eggplant is still quite good. Don't skimp on the spice level.
Good old fashioned Thai food in a hip setting with great servers. The foods itself is tasty and affordable. You wont be let down!
Had the green curry. It was grosss
Very tasty, authentic, Thai food.
Almost always a must go when we are in town. Food super yummy, and I love supporting this little whole in the wall.
We had a wonderful dining experience at this restaurant. Our server Colton was very friendly and made sure he understood my husband's order. My husband has strict dietary requirements and Colton was amazing!! Food was excellent! Our new Thai restaurant to go to now!👍
Have had a fantastic dinner twice now. They were exceptional about helping me navigate the menu and find things I can eat with my Dairy Allergy.
Conor was the best waiter we've ever had, even at super fancy places at the coast.
Everything we ordered was delicious.
We went with friends, 8 of us all together, for a birthday celebration. This was our first time to Chao Praya in many, many years. The food was incredible, all 6 dishes tasty, cooked to perfection. Our waiter Eli was great, very attentive, friendly, constantly checking on us, recommending dishes and desserts. We will return to Chao Praya again and again.
Wonderful food, nice when you don't have to cook. Interesting the consistency of the food is much better than the TaRaRin locations, even though owned by same family.
I always get their Khao Soi noodles. We also got Larb and a Thai tea. Their portion sizes seem larger than the other Thai restaurants in town, I have enough food for lunch tomorrow. True medium spicy, their larb was sufficiently seasoned with the right amount of lime; bursting with flavor.
The server was friendly, we got seated right away. Smaller parking lot, but definitely good parking considering the neighborhood.
I was so full I did not get dessert. Sadly they were out of mango, but it's not really much in season right now anyway. And I was too full to eat it anyway. Happy dinner.
Amazing place!
Wonderful food ..exceeded my expectations !!
This place is awesome. They can make almost everything gluten free.
Garden rolls: tasteless, overpriced, not rolled well, not quality ingredients. Iceberg lettuce? C'mon.
Pumpkin Curry: delicious flavor. Excellent serving size. Served with a small cup of overcooked sticky noodle ball.
Noodle dish: good. Over salted. Over priced. Standard.
It sufficed while traveling but would not recommend or eat there again.
Great flavor and nice quality and quantity. Service was very good.
Very good food! I had duck in curry sauce. It was delicious! My kids loved the phad thai too. Pricey though. My favorite dish there now is the spicy catfish!
The food is always good here, biggest and best tasting crab Rangoon's I've had.
This place always sends the best take out! Sometimes thai food noodles are way over cooked when they come through delivery. Not from here!
The dessert custard with black sticky rice is amazing, too!!
This food is so tasty! And the portions are plentiful. I highly recommend Chao Phraya for lunch or dinner.
Excellent Thai food, good service.
Love this place! Got the red curry with tofu and it was amazing. My server, Maleeka was so helpful. Highly recommend this hidden gem.
Was very busy and they were understaffed. Servers did an admirable job managing the chaos. Food was fine but unremarkable. I don't expect to go back again.
My favorite Thai in Eugene! Always delicious and always fresh! Just visited again today and still my favorite in town. Must try the golden pumpkin!
Tom Yum hot and sour soup was out of this world.
This. 👏Is. 👏The.👏 Best.👏 Everything was amazing. I came there craving Tum Kha, and I left so satisfied. I wanted to snuggle up in that soup it was so good. Amazing crispy golden fried tofu, Real Pot Stickers, & Spring Rolls. 100/10 best spot in town. This is now our #1 spot for Thai .
Food was ready quickly. Stopped in for a grubhub order pick up.
Best Thai food in Eugene. I ordered Thai noodle soup an wow this soup had a sweet spicy flavor to die for. There is one caveat. I like Spicy and usually ask for Thai-hot but I found this restaurant takes spicy to another higher level. Best to order mild with spicy on the side. Taste your dish first before adding anymore spice.
My favorite vegan restaurant AND all my non-vegan friends get to have amazing meals too!
We always have great service and today Eli did a wonderful job of taking care of us. :-)
Eli provided us great service. The food is very good!!
Great food and our server Eli was very attentive. Great place to eat.
The pad Thai here is so delicious! I wish they didn’t moved. They used to have a food truck at the Whit which was just 5 minutes drive from me. But I am happy for them they now have a restaurant. Will ho there again when I am driving around their new place.
Don’t bother calling ahead. I called in an order at 430 (opening) to be ready at 530 for pickup. Upon arrival at 535 they told me they still had 25 minutes to go on my order. When I have eaten here the wait times are long too, servers don’t fill up waters, etc.
Best Massaman curry in Eugene!
Good Thai food in Eugene.
Fast and friendly service.
Seems to take a while to get food as they stay quite busy.
Decent atmosphere.
Enjoyed chicken fried rice and the chicken chow mein.
Great food. Although I didnt catch our servers name, she was awesome! Its been a long time since we've had such an attentive server. The cook took my husband seriously when he asked for his food to be Thai hot and he was not disappointed.
Food tasted good, service was excellent.
You must go!. The outside doesn't looks good but the food is delicious!. I love this restaurant one of the best of Tai food in town.
Yum
