Established mom-&-pop hub serving traditional dishes from Northern Thailand plus wine, beer & sake.
Really delicious Thai food found here! It's worth braving the construction and the traffic if you love Thai food. The Service is friendly, the restaurant itself is clean, and the food is tasty. I ordered my two go-tos on my first visit (Pad See Ew and a Thai Iced Tea) and neither of them let me down. What's more, our kind server warned me that I would end up getting the dinner portion since they didn't have a lunch portion of Pad See Ew on the menu...it was going to be a lot. Oh darn, with broad flat noodles and a sweet soy sauce this good I definitely did not mind taking some home. The Thai tea was good too, very sweet as you expect, but you can still taste the tea. What's more, you can get boba (tapioca bubbles) in it if you like, so if you're riding that craze you can get it with a delicious meal here!
Definitely looking to come back for more. This is a great place for friends to meet, or for a working group to come out and have lunch!
I usually don’t leave reviews but this place really impressed me on my first visit!! The whole strip mall is renovated and painted white, so I guess this restaurant took it up a notch with their interior too🤩
The food was BOMBBBB and I have really high standards (must be A health score, food has flavor and is seasoned well, the portions) and this place really exceeded expectations.
I had the spicy papaya salad which wasn’t too fishy and just the right amount of sweet, salt and spicy (i rate a 8.9/10) and my partner had the Drunken noodles w/chicken (which we would rate 8/10) and the thai tea (7). we also got the mango sticky rice and OMGGGG so well balanced with the flavor. my only wish is that there was more mango bc it was that good.
First time trying this place and it was great! Very inconspicuous from the outside but as soon as you step foot inside, it’s a pleasant surprise. Good vibes and relaxing ambiance. The staff was also very friendly and the food hot and delicious. I got the drunken noodles with vegetables and Thai tea. With a 3 spice level out of 5 it was plenty spicy.
There’s plenty of tables plus a bar with beer and wine. This is one of the best Thai restaurants I’ve tried and I’ll definitely be returning.
My husband serprised me over the weekend and we drove 3 hrs to Raleigh for a comedy show, but a huge goal was to have authentic Thai. We lived in Thailand for 12 years and have missed genuine Thai so much. It was great talking to P. Joy in Thai and the food was the best we've had state side! Khao Soi and som tom were both so delicious! We actually ate lunch yesterday at another Thai place, but it had nothing on Thai Star.
I had a wonderful experience at Thai Star Restaurant last lunch. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the prices were reasonable. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for authentic Thai food in Durham.
I especially enjoyed the drunken noodle and the massaman curry. The drunken noodle was perfectly balanced between sweet, sour, and spicy, and the massaman curry was rich and creamy with a hint of heat. My server was friendly and attentive, and she made sure that we had everything we needed.
The portion was good, and although it did take some time to have our meals ready, it’s worth waiting. Also an indication of good online sales or orders by phone calls.
I ordered fried rice, which was well seasoned, not too salty nor sweet, the type of flavor for sure accepted from the point of view of an Asian.
A good nostalgia when you are away from home! A must try!!
OMG !!! Excellent menu choices, amazing atmosphere and the customer service surpassed my expectations.
Absolutely delicious! This Vietnamese restaurant is a must-try. The chicken noodle soup was delicious, and the prices were incredibly reasonable and a good service.

Such delicious choice for take out! We had pineapple fried rice with tofu and pad thai - both amazing!
Fantastic red curry!
Definitely more suited for take out, we went on a Friday night and were the only customers. The food was good and very convenient to Parkwood.

Food was fresh and delicious. Loved the service and good vegetarian options customized to individual needs.
This place was amazing. Do yourself a favor and get something other than pad Thai here, it was good. Small, family owned, and very sincere owner who took pride when complimenting his food.
Tried this place for the first time and the basil rolls were ok with a strange jelly-like sauce. The pad Thai was very dry, flavorless, and left much to be desired.
Great food! The host is so nice we asked for a soup refill and they gave us the refill! ♥️
Been here before and just as good again. Very nice service and flavorful dishes. I love masamam curry and theirs is so delicious!
Great experience, aside from no customer WiFi access.
Sat waiting for an hour for my takeout food that never came. They still charged me.
Always a good place for a weekday mid work lunch... Fish in Basil sauce and Shrimp fried rice is always a star!!
The food is delicious, I can't give a 4.5 so I gave a 5. Some Thai places have slightly better dishes in certain areas, but this place is unique, their coconut dishes are amazing, as someone who hates coconut.
Great Thai food and very quick service. Very homely place
Great Thai food and super nice server there! We’ve tried multiple dishes and they are always good. The coconut cake is awesome.
very positive
My, dish, the crab meat fried rice had very little crab. Everyone else was happy with their food, so I'll go back.
Delicious flavorful food and attentive service!
Highly recommend the curries! The noodles are good but we thought the curries were great!
Food was just ok. Everything was a little too sweet but we ordered mild food I guess so it was our fault. Spring rolls were the tiniest rolls that can be rolled! Pad thai wasn’t too good. Green curry was very good. They added 4 $ extra per dish for adding vegetables to a vegetarian dish! Go figure. Lady serving didnt speak any English. At least have a person who can speak the local language in a customer facing roll!
Delicious and will be back many many more times! We had the curry - nice and creamy, the nam tok beef was THE reason I kept coming back: flavorful, light, beautiful texture. The papaya salad was another must have - I in fact have it with the beef and it was heavenly. We topped it off with mango sticky rice. Will def recommend
A very authentic Thai place. No fusion food . No sushi.. no Chinese dishes
My husband loves the Green Curry with Chicken and I always have the Thai Stars and Egg rolls. Delicious and excellent service 😁😋
The wonton soup was so plain and didn’t have any taste to it. The pad Thai was so flavorless. There was no peanuts or lime on it. Noodles were all stuck together and the chicken was so dry. Terrible experience!
Our lunch was delicious. Our server was friendly and helpful.
Unfortunately, I have to write a somewhat negative review for what was once our go-to Thai place. We always order Volcano Chicken. It was homemade using real chicken with the sauce covering it. Their sister restaurant Thai Cafe also had the same dish. It was not the frozen sweet and sour chicken nuggets you get from their competitor a mile up the road or from every Chinese place in America. We haven't eaten here in months, but apparently they've gone the way of every other Americanized Thai and Chinese and also now use the cheap mass produced fried chicken nuggets and have the volcano chicken sauce on the side for dipping. I could have made that at home on my own. Everything was separated in the to-go Styrofoam box (they nixed the plastic containers apparently). The veggies were bland, the sauce was oily, the chicken portion was small for what we use to get. Sadly, we will not return again. Now I'm wondering if Thai Cafe also decided to cut costs and quality and ditched real chicken for frozen nuggets.
My go to spot
Stopped in for a quick lunch. Ordered spicy basil beef. It was tasty enough but sadly the meat was tough. Best to stick with chicken if you decide to give it a try.
I ordered on Door dash for the first time tonight and I was very happy with the flavors and portions and the freshness of the food.
Delicious. Had Khao Soi here for the first time and it was superb.
Purely based on the food, this place deserves one star. Ordered the chicken pad thai, it was dry and the noodles were stuck together like one big rice cake. No taste at all. I even found a shrimp tail in my CHICKEN pad thai. Threw put the majority of the pad thai. I won't ever come back here again. Save yourself some time, go somewhere else.
Very nice atmosphere. Restaurant was very clean and decorated nicely. Service was quick and friendly. I ordered the chicken noodle salad and it was very delicious with a curry broth. Highly recommend this Thai restaurant. They’re open on Christmas Day!
Friendly staff.
Fried rice didn’t taste fresh and weren’t the best.
Decent if other places are closed but doesn’t satisfy craving for Thai food.
I'm so lucky yo live so close to great Thai food!! You're food is amazing, thank you!
Food was tasty and quantity was good. We tried coconut soup, drunken noodles, red curry, chicken satay. Pad thai was little on sweet side.
Best Thai I've had!
I ordered Tom Kha (coconut soup) and red curry for take out and it was probably one of the best Tom Kha I had in this area. I would go back the next day it was that good! They added plenty of vegetable and tofu to my order as well which I was delighted to see. I will be back !
Best meal I’ve had in NC
毎週通っていたレストラン。パッタイとドランケンヌードルが最高にやみつきになります。辛さは選択できて、ホットだと汗が流れる辛さ。店員もフレンドリーで居心地の良い店です。
This was great food. Ordered through door dash so can’t speak to atmosphere or service but the food was excellent.

อาหารอร่อยค่ะ
Food did not disappoint. There was a bit of a communication problem with the server but another employee came over to help her out.
I had a wonderful experience at Thai Star Restaurant last lunch. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the prices were reasonable. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for authentic Thai food in Durham.

Cute maître d'
Good food.
The food was delicious, the portions were consistent with the price, and the food was ready for pickup when promised. My order consisted of masaman curry and spring rolls. Both were exactly as expected and had just the right amount of spice. Highly recommend!
Not at all good. I don’t recommend to come here.
Food doesn’t make me happy anymore
Tasty and the environment is good.
My husband and I visited Thai Star for the first time today and we will be sure to return soon. This is why...
The restaurant was very clean and laid out nicely with plenty of space between the tables. We were greeted as soon as we entered by a young lady with the sweetest smile. The service was excellent from the beginning of our visit until we left to go home.
The single occupancy ladies room was clean, well-stocked, and had a changing table for the little ones. They even had a mouthwash dispenser in there.
The menu was full of tempting choices. For our meal, I had Massaman (mild curry) with Tofu and my husband had Pad Thai with Tofu. Both were plated beautifully and were equally delicious.
Thai Star is a 40-minute drive from our home but it was worth the trip.
Chicken Noodle bowl is really good. The lunch price is cheap. Bathroom is very clean. I highly recommend this restaurant. Will come
back again.
First time trying this place and it was great! Very inconspicuous from the outside but as soon as you step foot inside, it’s a pleasant surprise. Good vibes and relaxing ambiance. Excellent
One of my favorite places. We ordered ahead of time and they were willing to accommodate our request. Beef salad, Pad Thai and Thai tea are my favorite here.
Best drunken noodles I’ve had! I came here around 6pm on a Sunday and the place was pretty empty. I placed an order for takeout and my food was ready in 15 mins. Staff was friendly as well. I also got an iced Thai tea and it was delicious. I definitely want to come back and actually sit down to dine.
Omg the servers are very bad and literally asking people to leave by switching off the air and constantly giving away the vibes. Wouldn’t recommend……
The basil fried rice here used to be amazing, but I think there’s new management. Today, it lacked sweetness, seems like the entire sauce base has been modified. The pad thai was the same as before, but no carrots or cabbage was in it. Needed salt and a little more tamarind tang.
Very pleasant dining experience...excellent food:-)
Perfect food - I loved the drunken noodles.
Perfect service - our waitress was happy to serve us.
The interior was modern and clean. I loved the fun table cloths.
It would be fun to hear some traditional Thai music added to the playlist.
Also it may increase the feeling of hospitality if the hostess table were directly in front of the doors when you walk in.
Thank you for serving us and I wish your fine restaurant all the best.
One of my new favorite places!! Love the food!
Food was excellent. Restaurant is clean. Ruchira our waitress was excellent. High Recommended.
All five of us were impressed with our orders.
Notably fresh ingredients.
Yellow curry was fantastic. Drunken noodles and Par Thai were also solid.
I have ordered here probably 6 or 7 times. I feel it’s better than other Thai places close by. Staff is always friendly as well.
We have been looking for a go-to Thai place near us and this one is the best so far! Loved the Thai basil, panang curry, papaya salad, and drunken noodles. The medium spice was awesome…not at all bland like some others we have tried. The pad Thai was just okay. Will definitely be returning.
I just ordered the Thai Pineapple Fried Rice with shrimp through Door Dash. It was 15.95 and an extra dollar for shrimp. Why were there only 5 shrimp in this heap of rice???!!! They either were skimping on the shrimp or the driver ate a few shrimp in route. lol Either way, it would have been a good dish had they not rationed the shrimp. Definitely not worth $17.00!!! Disappointing.
Flavor is good, food is way overpriced for the portion size. I'd expect the portions to cost around $10 instead of the 15 paid
Had an excellent red curry. The coconut and shrimp soup was also very nice.
The food was fantastic. The service was very pleasant and friendly. We got the NamTok Beef appetizer, Pad basil pork and the Thai Crab fried rice.
The NamTok beef is one of the best appetizers I have had in a while. The Paf basil pork and Thai crab fried rice were simply delicious. I would say this place serves one of the best Thai food on the area!! Definitely going back !
Loved the Basil Fried Rice and Pad Thai. The restaurant was very accommodating and made vegan versions of these dishes for us. Would definitely recommend.
Really good service.I am in love with the authentic Thai food taste here ..
Very good ambience, service, food and value for money. I got the chicken massaman
Yummy food! My another favorite food is flat noodles seafood!
Ordered the spring rolls, crab Rangoon, and pad Thai. All were very low quality and not good. Would not recommend.
Really good! Service was helpful and the food hit just right. We had pad ped pla (sweet basil fish) which was colorful, sweet and spicy...it could have used a few more veggies though, and the fish lost its crispiness a bit in the sauce, but we finished it all because yum!. I was also very happy that the fish was catfish and not tilapia. That made for a more flavorful dish than tilapia ever dreamed. The Thai beef salad was fabulous with just enough heat to enhance the flavors of the beef (cooked medium) and sauce. Very tasty.
One complaint: the ginger dressing on the salad was meh. A lot of ginger (A LOT of ginger) but no actual flavor to carry it. It was like a freshly grated ginger paste was dumped randomly on the romaine.
We still miss Thai Lanna, but Thai Star left us with a really good taste in our mouths.
Will visit again. 4.5 stars
My four year old crushed a chicken satay and ate a bunch of veggies from my dish. That says a lot. Quick and easy online order, everything was correct and delicious.
This food was amazing ❤️. We are in the Durham area for a few weeks. We will definitely be doing this again. Thank you for the great eats!!!!!
I decided to get my Thai fix at Thai Star today since I had errands in the area. I haven't been to this place since it was Thai Lanna so I had no idea what to expect.
Interior is nice and the employee I interacted with was friendly. The sanitation score was 92.5. It's still an A so I tried it anyway.
It was lunch time however the dish I wanted was only available on the Dinner Menu. My pad see eww chicken takeout order took 10 to 15 mins to prepare.
For dinner order, it was smallest container I've seen. It was likely a lunch container and it was not full. For $16, I expected more. Maybe there's the penalty for ordering off the dinner menu at lunch? There wasn't much dark soy sauce and there was very little wok hay. The flavor was okay but you could see from the color of the noodles something was missing. It needed more sauce.
The combination high cost, small serving size and lack flavor of flavor will keep me from returning. I really how what I got wasn't the dinner container.
Delicious food prepared fresh and fast! The people are very friendly.
The staff are very friendly. The food I ordered were really delicious and lots of meat, shrimp. Great reasonable price. Thank you very much.
Tried them for the first time. Good portions but not as flavorful as we're used to. The sesame sauce was really good. My veggie spring rolls were undercooked 😔 We had drunken noodles and Basil fried rice but as I said before neither was as flavorful as we're used to.
Delicious food and friendly service!!! BEST drunken noodles around and their coconut cake is amazing!!!
Fresh, tasty food and a wide variety of options. A local gem that’s great as a takeout spot or to dine-in. Folks working there are very kind as well.
Great healthy and vegetarian options. They shredded vegetables instead of having noodles. Beautiful place too!
Excellent Thai option! Hands down the best I've had in the area. I've only had carry out so far but the restaurant is cute and clean inside. The food is fresh and tasty, and they heed the notes regarding spice for carry out. The quality of the proteins is excellent. I only wish they were open Sundays!
Yellow Curry and Spicey Papaya Salad!! Really, really good! Mel and I eat at the Thai Star as often as we can get in the area and we've never been disipointed with the food. The dinning room is always clean and the seating comfortable. Friendly? O yea. Great service, and with a friendly smile to!
I’ve been to many Thai restaurants all over the Eastern coast of the U.S.
This clean and quaint experience is good for the mind, body, and soul. The food is top notch in flavor and always super fresh. Do yourself a favor and stop in!
Easily the best Thai food I’ve ever had! I’ve yet to be disappointed in a single meal and I’ve done a pretty deep dive into their menu. Give it a shot you won’t be disappointed! Do take care with your spice levels though, they aren’t afraid to make you some seriously spicy food.
We now have a go-to Thai restaurant in Durham.
They hands-down have the BEST drunken noodles we have been able to find in the area. Would 100% recommend. The coconut cake is also very yummy!
very good tofu and curry
Thai Star-5 Star.
If you are looking at this you're probably weighing a few Thai restaurants to order from. STOP. You found it, this is the one.
Thai star is hands down the best Thai restaurant I have found in the 4 years I've been living in the triangle and the food is always consistently absolutely perfect.
Everything isn't spicy here, but.
I am an insane person who loves spicy food more than anything and I order my food "Extra extra extra thai hot" every time, which I do from most places wether it's indian or thai or japanese and there is a spicy option and Thai Star is hands down not afraid to give you what you ask for.
I love them, I love the food, I just got done eating a delicious Pad Basil a few minutes ago and I want to tell the world how incredible they are here. Thanks for coming to my TED talk, please order from them.
Red curry Is so delish as is the pad basil!
The place is awesome! Food is very very good. Portion size is larger than I expected. 100% will go back
I used to eat here under the prior ownership BUT the new owners are definitely a step up in quality and taste. I have a Thai restaurant right by my home but I drive the extra distance as the food at Thai Star is significantly better than what I can find here in Chapel Hill. Also their portions are quite adequate for me on the lunch menu. I highly recommend Thai Star!
Absolutely must try the Thai Tea. Best I've ever had - rich flavor with lots of fresh cream and ice. As good as ice cream!
The red curry with tofu is my favorite
Nice place for lunch
Love, Love, Love them! Food, fresh, hot delicious! Place always clean, prompt service. I'd just love for business to pick up for them cause I get off work late & need a 10 night...at least 2 nights. You won't be disappointed!
Best Thai I’ve had in the triangle. We have had the pad Thai, Nam Sod, and red curry and have not been disappointed. We often pick it up on our way to trivia at Glass Jug and orders have been on time, hot and accurate.
Great food, terrific service. Will definitely be going back!
Amazing food! Wonderful service😍😍best in town! Love loved the food😋😋. Highly recommend.
Lived it
The food was amazing! I got the yellow curry and it tasted wonderful. Also the hostess was super sweet. She made a lovely coconut cake from scratch. We ordered it and it tasted delicious! Will definitely come back.
Great service, good food. It was roughly 10 of us (relax, it was coworkers and spouses, we all spend a lot of time at work together already). The service was in point given that we were such a big crowd! Good was really good too
Authentic flavor. Recommend the special dishes instead of the lunch specials for a better treat. Ka Pound Chicken is a great dish and the noodles are good. Coconut soup is also nice.
NOT OPEN ON SUNDAYS
I ordered a take out and it was very delicious. We got the curries and the taste was authentic.
Food was average at best. Service was average as well.
I really like the crab fried rice here. It's so delicious.
Outstanding, I placed a takout order and within 5 minutes they had it out to me. The coconut soup is both rich and light somehow and the Thai curry is full of delicious vegetables cooked to perfection. 10/10 I would eat here every day if I could!!!
Food and price was ok.
Food and service was great! What I didn't like was the cashier/waitress automatically adding her tip. I find that to be rude.
I always enjoy to food and service at this simple Thai restaurant! It also helps that there is an awesome tap room in the same shopping center (The Glass Jug). They make a great pair for an after-work outing
This place never disappoints. The food is amazing!
Great taste and friendly service! Respect the spice rack... They pack a punch!!
They changed management and now it's not as good
Best Thai place I've ever eaten at
Yummy Thai food at a great price. Usually quick too!
Poor service
