Sushi lovers welcome!
Fresh, traditional sushi and sashimi, regardless of what you’re in the mood for: salmon, tuna, yellowtail, mackerel, ikura, uni, and more.
We serve all the classic maki rolls, wrapped with just the right amount of sushi rice. The ambitious (and hungry) should try more inventive rolls like the Pink Panther (spicy tuna, avocado, and peanuts wrapped in soy paper) or the Tic Tac Toe (salmon, white tuna, and tuna wrapped in rice paper). Check out our Chef Special rolls for more!
We also serve hibachi dishes, hot udon noodle soup, and perfectly cooked katsu and donburis. If you’re in the mood for other Asian dishes, our Pad Thai, Crispy Sesame Chicken, and Szechuan Blackened Steak are fan favorites.
Completely disappointed. The seafood soup should have been labeled 'miso broth'. Only two pieces of seafood in a large bowl! Stupid expensive for nothing. Broth, overcooked scallop, overcooked shrimp, and plastic tasting imitation crab meat. Service was inattentive and disorganized. Fortunately the sushi rolls were good. Definitely not worth coming here.
I recently dined at SHOGUN, an authentic Japanese restaurant and sushi bar in Albany, and it was an exceptional experience. This restaurant truly stands out for several reasons.
First and foremost, SHOGUN boasts an extensive food selection that caters to a variety of tastes. From traditional Japanese dishes to an impressive sushi menu, there's something for everyone. Additionally, their premium drink and cocktail collections complement the meal perfectly, adding an extra layer of enjoyment to the dining experience.
What struck me most was the impeccable service. The staff at SHOGUN are not only fast but also incredibly cordial. They took our orders accurately, ensuring that every dish was prepared to our satisfaction. This level of attentiveness is a rarity and greatly enhanced our dining experience.
Furthermore, it's worth noting that SHOGUN has achieved the highest level of honor from the Department of Health—EXCELLENT COMPLIANCE. This recognition speaks volumes about the restaurant's commitment to maintaining top-notch hygiene and safety standards. It's a testament to their dedication to providing a clean and healthy dining environment.
In summary, SHOGUN in Albany is a true gem. With its diverse menu, premium drinks, exceptional service, and outstanding health compliance record, it's a dining establishment that deserves the highest praise. I highly recommend a visit to experience the excellence firsthand.
Oh my gosh, if you are looking for good Japanese cuisine... this is it! Amazing selection! Very good serving staff. We had a group of 6, and they were able to seasily accommodate us. Our server was very patient with us as we were catching up with friends, so it took us longer to order. They allowed us to take our time. The food came out in a good time. On top of all of this, they had free parking in the back. We were not disappointed at all!
My daughter and I have been here twice now, and both times agreed that the sushi was excellent. I don’t know what it is, but it tastes really fresh. I honestly thought tonight’s sushi was probably the best I’ve ever had. The atmosphere is nice as well. Looking forward to coming back.
Really lovely food, our server had the issue of us being a party where people were arriving at different times and all wanted to order, so pretty labour intensive, but she was attentive and fast.
I had the Japanese curry with fried tofu and it was delicious and really well priced.

Krystal and the manager were amazing!!!! Great service.

I had the Japanese curry with fried tofu and it was delicious and really well priced.
Wasnt overly impressed with the service or food. Everything was alright at best.
Fresh sushi, rice was great as well! The whole family all enjoyed our experience. Thank you to all the staff for your friendliness and care
Fresh sushi for a good price
My daughter and I have been here twice now, and both times agreed that the sushi was excellent. I don’t know what it is, but it tastes really fresh. I honestly thought tonight’s sushi was probably the best I’ve ever had. The atmosphere is nice as well. Looking forward to coming back.
I’ve eaten here several times and the service is excellent, the food is delicious, with an extensive sushi menu, and the restaurant is beautiful. I highly recommend checking this place out.
The blonde Host was so nice and helpful and food was amazing!!
The staff here are friendly, and it's the perfect place to enjoy high-quality and delicious Chirashi. The presentation and taste are both top-notch. Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for a great meal!
Not done 20$for shrimp
Nice atmosphere. Great food
Their food was so delicious!!!
This is the worst hibachi I have ever had in my entire life
service was horrible, they didn’t even greet us!!! felt so uncomfortable!!
Best sushi in Albany bc it’s consistent and always fresh. Don’t sleep on the lunch specials.
Recently moved into the area and ordered sushi from a different restaurant. I decided to give this place a try due to the good reviews. I ordered the spicy maki entree, steamed shumai, and miso soup. Something was definitely wrong with the sushi, because later that evening, I spent the better part of an hour in the bathroom with food poisoning. My thought is that the fish wasn't fresh, but it's hard to say. I'll be avoiding this place for the time being...
Have been there many times over the years. Food is still great but the quality of service has gone down. We were made to feel that we were an annoyance. Probably won't dine in again and seriously have to think about doing takeout.
I'm so disappointed. I tried to get the hibachi salmon lunch special, but they told me I couldn't because a few minutes had passed. I mentioned that I've been a loyal customer for 8 years, but the front desk girl and her supervisor still refused to make an exception. I had a few guests that I promised to buy lunch for, but I couldn't because they didn't care about the situation. Never again.
Shogun your reply and this kind of service is worth a 5 out of 5 everyday. This kindness will make me return soon thank you!
Tl;dr:
Sadly the waitress was pretty rude. She had made a mistake, and brought us the incorrect dish for a part of our order. She was short with us. She refused to take the item back! :( Furthermore she refused to remove the incorrect item from our bill at that time. Nonetheless, we proceeded to then add the correct item to the bill ((again)) because it was one of the only reasons we were initially even thinking of choosing this venue.
If you've been to Shogun in Albany near Washington Park and have eaten here, you may even know of whom I am speaking of!. Audacity coming out of the nose and ears.
"Oh, read some of the reviews",
so I'm told.
Well!
My fiancé had done that prior, at at some point and then again after the experience we most recently had. And she remembered that this establishment actually has had multiple poor reviews in the past regarding some of the service here.
WELL!! A couple of weeks ago we wanted to go on a date night and I had been all but having dreams about some shrimp tempura sushi rolls. Yum.
There was no wait when we entered and the environment was nice enough. Cleanly.
The woman who waited our table seemed to work with haste. Which wasn't to our favor. ESPECIALLY since there was legitimately no apparent rush at the sushi bar nor much traffic to and from the kitchen really. I digress. The place was pretty desolate for lack of trying to come up with a better word. Hmm, empty then, perhaps ? NO NEED FOR HASTE, BASICALLY!
We placed our order my fiancé did. She had it written on a notes app via her smartphone. She showed our waitress and read the order at the same time to her so as to simply specify what we wanted.
We ordered:
*sweet potato sushi rolls
*vegetable pad Thai, +add shrimp
* we ordered I believe some sort of dumplings as well
* and the shrimp tempura rolls, too, of course
The food came. They brought it to the table. We looked at the shrimp tempura they brought to the table for a second, then my fiancé and I looked at each other with confused looks on our faces.
My fiancé flagged down the waitress and explained that we wanted the shrimp tempura rolls and not the shrimp tempura dish itself.
Long story short though yes, she would NOT take back the shrimp tempura dish!
NOR would she deduct the item from our bill, even as it was stressed to then that we did not want the item. And yet, still we consecutively proceeded to have ((again)) the shrimp tempura rolls ordered and had them (obviously) added to the order. It's really the one thing I'd mainly been yearning for when we went there , hah... jokes on us, though, really.
I paid. I signed my copy of the check. I actually very innocently forgot and missed really the spot to put in an amount for a tip on the check. She still though had the kahunas to promptly mention this and ask for a tip...! Like flat out drop the check back on the table and pointed, "tip, no tip?"
Wowie!!
Again, big SOLID JADE balls this woman had! If you want to order here, I recommend you ORDER OUT AND HAVE THEM READ BACK YOUR ORDERS, like you have to do with a fast food workers! It's not that there is poor service rather a simple (yet totally NOT simple) erm. How you say? LANGUAGE BARRIER ON THE FRONT LINES. 😭😭😭
Shogun offers a vibrant dining experience, combining traditional Japanese culinary arts with a modern twist. The ambiance is inviting, perfect for a night out with friends or a special occasion. The menu is diverse, featuring everything from meticulously prepared sushi to sizzling teppanyaki dishes, all crafted from high-quality ingredients. The service at Shogun is attentive and professional, ensuring a pleasant meal from start to finish. A must-visit for those seeking authentic Japanese cuisine with a contemporary flair.
Amazing food loved the fried chicken and rice me and my family really enjoyed it!!! Our service was a little rude but then they got replaced by someone else and they were very nice. Good prices for the quality of food... atmosphere was very nice and chill I felt very fresh there...
People speak highly of this place but the food is subpar. I even got what I felt was undercooked chicken last month. Won’t be returning. I’ve tried different meals about three times or so finally released it’s just not the best.
Always a pleasure and great service
I really enjoyed the food. Ordered a few different things including the funky monkey, amazing and the green marbles, I was blown away by the flavor. They take reservations. Parking around back. Walking distance from the Egg.
One of favorite sushi spots in Albany
Ordered priority Uber eats and the meal was being ‘prepared’ for an hour! It was one roll!
I am a doordashe delivering these people's food , well the was a wait cause order was not ready when I arrived so I used the bathroom. I was rudly informed that I as a doorfasher could not use restroom as I was not a customer , but here I am deli bring these peoples food . Is doordashers don't get many places here in Albany. You should be allowed to use the bathroom if you're delivering food for these people as your extension of the customerit's the shame of these places.
This is where my partner and I went on our first date and where we just went for Valentine's Day. It is a great place with excellent food and service. And very reasonably priced. We will keep coming back to celebrate special occasions.
The rose was a nice touch.
Great food in a cozy yet open restaurant. Had the sushi and it was excellent quality skillfully prepared.
Ordered hibachi for take out the shrimp and steak hibachi. The salad dressing for the salad was not the typical yummy ginger dressing. The hibachi is the same price as other hibachi places but doesn't have the fried rice, soup or noodles included. The steak was cooked perfectly the shrimp was ok! Veggies lacked flavor and they gave such a scant amount of dipping sauce that it didn't help much. Inside looked nice and service for pickup was fine.
This was my go to sushi place in Albany (until Ruby City opened). It's pretty equivalent to Zen in Schenectady, with better quality sushi but worse service. Much better to order take out from here, the waitresses I've had have all been awful. The sushi is great for Albany though. 5/5 takeout, 2/5 dine in.
Very rude owners
The food was terrible and theservices not much better. The food wasn't hot at all more like lukewarm.
Good service, clean, nice food.
Great place, food was great, sushi was fresh-delicious, great atmosphere overall highly recommend
One of the worse restaurants in Albany went there yesterday they served old soup which was kinda sour very disappointed with food
They offer tasty high quality food in downtown Albany. We love vegi tempora roll and California roll! Mango chicken sweeter than our taste but still good!
جيد
This is our family's go-to sushi place in Albany. Food is terrific, never have to wait for a table, and while it's say it's "kid friendly" we've never had an issue with kids being obnoxious :P
Typical small town Asian restaurant that sell everything from sushi to Thai food. My friends and I came here for dinner on Sunday and everything we ordered were better than we expected. We especially liked the spicy rock shrimp, and the rolls were also solid for the price.
Everything was great with the exception of the Unbelievable Roll. It is made with cilantro but I can't eat that. The website did not say it has cilantro in it, and did give me a tickbox to say No Cilantro, so the meal was wasted. It was an expensive roll too, 18 bucks, so it wasn't a small error that I would normally brush aside 😞
Was there for my wife's birthday and brought my son with us and they did not offered a booster (which later we foumd out they dont have any). The service was terrible and the food was NOT I repeat NOT authentic like you see in the other reviews. They didnt have a kids menu! Like wow it is 2023! Will never go again. Very disappointed!
Service was terrible, food was not good, no kids menu.
We order from here all the time. Good food, fast service. Wonderful local place.

We always go to SAKE for our hibachi, it’s our favorite. Today we were right around the corner from here though so we decided to give it a try. We waited about 10 minutes for our server to come even give us water and it was pretty empty. I was so disappointed in the hibachi it comes with your choice and veggies… no fried rice no lo mein noodles. They don’t even have lo mein noodles on the menu!! I had to end up getting basically sautéed spaghetti. Not a fan.
Consistently delicious food and good variety. Friendly and attentive staff. The atmosphere is also very pleasant. A dish I had not tried before going here was Japanese curry which turned out very tasty! Good parking
Excellent meal.
Excellent!!!
Tasty sushi place. I was never disappointed when going there. The location can't be beat either.
Absolutely incredible!! The Seafood Udon is to die for!
I loved the food and experience! 10 out of 10!!!
Hands down the best sushi spot that I’ve ever been to. My boyfriend and I go there all the time. Got the Tom Yum soup and there’s nothing like it. The atmosphere is beautiful. Excellent service and wonderful staff! The food is out of this world. This is one place we can’t live without.
Love this place! Their Maki for Three platter is a bit of a gamble but it ALWAYS pays off! Such a great deal and always delicious. 11/10
Always friendly and helpful
Food is great, service is exceptional! I would recommend the Hawaii roll.
Fast preperation w/o loosing quality to the food . Great atmosphere employees up front very nice and friendly. I totally reccomend.
Ordered by Uber eats. Delivery person took off with my food after confirming PIN. When I called shogun, the employee was no help.
This is the best sushi in Albany. Everything was fresh and had a ton of flavor. We got one of the lobster and specialty shrimp tempura rolls and they were both phenomenal. The rock shrimp was also very delicious. Highly recommended.
I have been getting food here for years. Its amazing. Some of my favorite sushi. I love it.
Exelente comida y muy buena atencion.
I always have a happy good time here. I felt welcomed. The food isn't bad.
Love the food and ambience
Sushi was amazingly fresh and tasty. 10/10 would recommend
Friendly staff. Some of the sushi wasn’t the best but that’s the risk you take when you get a bunch of randomly chosen sashimi. Best eel roll I’ve ever had. Pricey.
Food was fresh and tasty, the service was nice. Not the best sushi I have ever had, but for the price it's pretty decent! I wish they had a better Japanese beer selection (e.g Orion).
Good Japanese food. Quiet and good service. Good parking space in the back.
Very good sushi! Great service! Nice location.
my fav sushi in the albany area
Very delicious and reasonable prices
Pretty good sushi it's fast service and large variety of drinks and food! It is a calm place and I appreciate the vibe there! 😌
Fish is fresh
Good lunch special. Food and service is good, nice atmosphere.
Excellent food, beautiful presentation, great service! Nice easy music not too loud!!
I was disappointed with the portion size compared to the price. I ordered pickup for lunch. I bought one roll because it was considered a speciality roll and pricey so I thought I’d get what I paid for. One roll cost $17.28 (and that’s without tip). It was good enough but small and should have either been larger or cost less (and this was lunch). It wasn’t anything fancy either - shrimp tempura and cucumber inside, avocado and tuna on top. I’m still hungry. It actually tasted good but definitely not worth it.
Nice bento set
The atmosphere and food are nice, staff is good, sushi is freshly prepared and they have some great cocktails.
Giving 3 stars because I think they should be more aware of food allergens. Their salad on the side was topped with peanut dressing and it could be dangerous for people who are allergic to peanuts. Also, portions are small for the price.
Very decent sushi, nice vegetable tempura.
Excellent food. Great drinks
Quiet mid-afternoon lunch. Mango chicken with lots of veggies and rice
Tastes good, but I don't think it's cool for them to put sushi together with vegetarian order. Plus there was no crunch on the crunchy yellowtail
Ordered a bento box for lunch. Told there was an hour wait. Never got confirmation that my food was ready and when I picked it up an hour later it was cold. For $17 I waited an hour for cold food, plus they forgot my salad and there was a hair on my spring roll. Not a great first experience.
Awesome!!! Asahi too 👍👊🙂
Best sushi I’ve ever had. Extremely fresh tasting, it’s so good. Service is very quick as well.
Best sushi in downtown Albany. I go there regularly and the quality is always superior.
Always delicious, high quality food, EXCELLENT service! Always look forward to catching up with our favorite server with our surprise flight of sakie!
Excellent food and service!
The rolls are always…. fine. That’s it. They won’t take your breath away. They don’t make you want to write poems. They’re… fine.
Sushi was great, service was fast, attentive and pleasant! Selection was good too!
The best place to get sushi in the area. Their pan fried noodles are the best!
Update 1/11/22: Still coming here for any sushi cravings! Everything that I’ve ventured out and tried has been delicious for a picky yet adventurous eater! The only downside to this place is that I end up spending $30 on food for myself because I can’t decide on one thing so I order 4-5 items. Ordering from the lunch menu has helped tremendously reduce the price while being able to get different entrees. The sautéed noodles are my go to! It’s like an upscale lo mein. The gyoza and spicy rock shrimp are bomb too! Can’t wait for my order today now!
The food was terrible, made me sick while eating it the hibachi chicken and shrimp is not good
It’s alright but they gave me California roll instead of spicy crunchy tuna and I hate California roll plus it’s cheaper than California roll so I’m kinda angered by that, so 1 star on here too
Food was great. Decor was also nice, it doesn't have 5 stars because it wasn't super clean but it was clean. Just wish that they could clean the garbage cans near the register or the bar area more often.
Very good sushi! The unbelievable roll tastes unbelievably good. Friendly and quick service.
Some of the best Asian food in the Capital District at reasonable prices! I have been here often and always enjoy coming back to try something new or to order an old favorite!
I tried to stake out my local neigborhood restaurant and I was a little disappointed with portions i mean I got tom yum soup which doesnt cost a lot and they gave me portion size of if I was getting dressing for a large salad. And it was pricey too. I know the cost of foods has definitely increased but with such a small portion with two pieces of chicken an barely any mushrooms or anything. That really put me in a funk having to wait as long as I did at the restaurant. Well, maybe try it again but not get soup and get a meal.
Pretty good sushi, not many different options when you get a sashimi platter for 4 or even 6. A bit overpriced for its portion sizes and lack of variety in the ingredients in the chef’s special rolls. The appetizers are amusingly colorful and the plating is beautiful, but yet again extremely small; taking up about a a quarter of the plate or just a very small pile(talking about the funky monkey and seaweed salad.)
The atmosphere is nice and the front of house is oftentimes teenagers or most likely students. The wait service is pretty decent, just a tad slow.
Ordered the shrimp fried rice (spicy) they made it just right. Not too spicy, not too bland thank you. Good restaurant nice atmospheric energy
Great sushi
Delicious food every single time. The staff are all excellent, as well.
Masterfully designed to please all senses.
Good food. Very clean.
