Came here for the first time super excited to try it and was super disappointed. We ordered Mongolian beef skewers and pork dumplings as an appetizer. The beef skewers were raw!!! Cold in the middle… disgusting. I informed our server who was super young and she didn’t even know what to say. The pork dumplings were doughy. The sushi which I hate to say was horrible. The tuna was chewy. It tasted like super market sushi. It was not good. Owner and managers are nice. Probably not going back, but I guess worth a try if you get the Chinese food, not the Japanese! I’m getting sick thinking of the food I ate. Such a disappointment was so excited to finally try this place. 🙄

My wife and I have eaten at Double AI many times, but mostly in warm weather so we can eat out on the deck. We usually get a variety of hot dishes, but it was my wife’s birthday so we had a sushi feast. We started with mini veggie rolls which were a bit greasy and not very tasty, but my wife’s wonton soup was good. We ordered a variety of specialty rolls which were all very good and we especially enjoyed the Double AI rolls. If I had to find a flaw it was that the rolls had a bit too much rice, but that’s a personal quirk. The servers are very attentive, but communication is sometimes challenging. Overall it’s still one of the best local spots for good Asian food.

Sushi and sashimi was incredible. My top 3 in all of NJ.. very fresh. The miso was amazing. I happened to stop here on my way home after work because I was rerouted… and so glad I stopped in. The special rolls are delicious. And the location right on the lake is gorgeous

I have been going here since I moved to the area in 2019. I loved it for the first 3 years. Last year they made 2 mistakes on orders for pickup and just tonight May 7th 2024 not only was there a mistake but the food was subpar. I order 2 eel avacado rolls and I got yellowfin avacado rolls and my Kamikaze roll and boneless bbq ribs didn't taste fresh. The prices of everything have also gone up significantly in the past 2 years but the quality has unfortunately gone down.

I have gone back after this visit at the invitation of management and was promised a better experience. The food and service was definitely much better. It is a great location with better than average sushi. The plates are beautiful when you eat in the restaurant which I have only done once. I am revising my review and giving it 4 stars. It is a pretty good sushi place.

"Kung Po Beef" He said no problem and offered me several ways to prepare it ! Great start ! The food came out and was done exactly to my specifications ! Awesome ! I should add that ALL THE SUSHI IS MADE FRESH as you watch ! ALSO DOUBLE Ai is a BYOB so you can bring your favorite wine or beer After the meal Jeff offered us ICE CREAM on the house ! 4 different choices ( YUM ) I chose the Green Tea. Overall this was a great experience. I am a world class entertainer ( Jazz / Concert Pianist ) I have experienced many Asian / Chinese restaurants and would put Double Ai in the TOP 5 . I do not recommend this place for big groups even after making reservations they kept us waiting for 30 mins and nobody had a courtesy to say sorry and update us on our table. After waiting 40 mins we just walked off from the restaurant and still no one apologized.

You know you’re in wrong spot when you ask for water and they put it in-front of you in plastic bottle w/out glass and the dishes are plastic too or if not, than chipped.

We couldn’t finish our main course; it was so greasy and flavorless. Ordered a soup, a salad, 2 appetizers, 3 main courses.
Cheap ingredients terribly prepared by someone with zero culinary skills. Main profile - besides who knows what’s going on here - is the entertaining w/DJ, Karaoke. Owner is a jerk, loud and non courteous.

Although the Tom Yum could have benefited from a more generous assortment of vegetables, this minor detail was overshadowed by the impeccable service. The staff were attentive and went above and beyond to accommodate my children's requests promptly. Their friendliness and willingness to engage made our dining experience truly memorable.

they got my order completely wrong for take out. do not get the chicken teriyaki they use the perdue precooked grilled chicken from the bag and drizzle "teriyaki" sauce on it. sushi has no presentation they just stuff everything in the container. the nice view can only take a place so far.

I want to try again when the patio is open, but otherwise, it's a bit of a letdown. The chef knows how to cook Thai food. Sushi looked okay, but I'm not sure I would get anything raw there. Coconut shrimp appeared to be frozen and reheated. It's a mix of good and bad, but people seem to enjoy the place, so maybe it's just a bad first experience.

Minus 2 stars for weird service. Nice deck facing Pompton lake. Food was good, not too salty like many Asian restaurants. Pricing was affordable, just on par with let's say Applebees. The Thai spring rolls (appetizer) were yummy. There were only 3 or 4 tables filled, but it took forever for waitress to take our entree order. So we tried to get attention of a nicely dressed lady fussing around with the dishes and plants and we asked if we could place our order. She said she didn't work there and to ask the waitress, so we went back to waiting and waiting. (Several minutes ago, she had greeted us as if she was the boss or manager of the restaurant and indeed later on we saw her giving orders to and criticizing the employees.) Weird.

We did order for delivery and the missed soem stuff from the order and rice with meals it is not problem after all tge mistakes the owner told us he s going to charge us for the rice which always comes with the food extra now he eants to charge 2- 3 dollars us after this mistake we did order 3:30 and now 6:30 and till now we havent recieved the rest of tge missing order yet for me j ll never think about that redturant this is the worst service ever

Only thing I can say is they need to do better in food and service.

I have never dined in, I live close by and do delivery. The sushi/sashimi is really good, but the the people taking the order are absolutely horrible. I always ask for extra soy sauce, chopsticks etc and although the food order is always correct, they never add the extras I ask for. I pay with my CC and the girl asked me if I wanted to leave a tip for the driver; I said yes, please add 20%… the driver shows up and there was no tip added.. not sure if the people answering the phone are drunk, dumb, overwhelmed or just a combo of the mix, but this restaurant should just invest in some professional staff and it would make things a whole lot better

I really wanted to try this place, but their hostess management skills are beyond horrible.

Doesn't seem like a place that can handle a busy crowd. Young staff looked lost. Took forever for someone to bring over plates and Silverware. After waiting for half hour if we didn't ask for menus we prob would still be waiting. Staff never comes to check on tables to see if anything is needed. I know I'm not the only that feels this way because we witnessed 3 tables get up and ask if they can collect the check. One lady just got tired of waiting and left. Food was ok shame service is terrible!

The manager is very nice so let me start with that. But the service is less so. They told me a 45min wait, which ended up being 90 minutes. But that's not the worst. They messed up our order and I have a gluten allergy so I asked for GF fryed rice. Which was not GF when I got it. The bill was 40ish and I gave them a 50. They never came back with the change till I ask. They also over taxed us which is what ever since I'm sure it computer generated. The food is average for a sushi place.

This restaurant has so much potential and I really wanted to like it but it failed in so many ways.

Decor/ambiance:
Great location, good parking, right on the water, great views.
Terrible upkeep, water damage in ceiling, paint chipping off the ceiling.

Cleanliness:
I feel dirty sitting in the dining room. Servers wipe all the table crumbs onto the floor when they leave.
One of our knives was very dirty and looked used. The other knife had a fruit/produce sticker on it.
How do you put these dirty utensils out? Doesn't anyone check before they set the table?

Service: not good, staff did not seem to care much about the service. Brought my credit card and bill to the wrong table when it literally says the table number on the bill.

Staff: They hire a bunch of young and skinny high school girls that don't know what they are doing. I assume the creepy owner thinks hiring these young girls will get more customers to come and dine. I guess people will sacrifice their stomach and taste buds for flirty little high school girls. What a PATHETIC AND GROSS business model!

Food:
Terrible, I don't understand how anyone says the food is good here.

Dumplings: very mediocre and the frozen pre-made variety, definitely not fresh made.

Boneless spareribs: came out kind of cold, probably been sitting there for a while. It was dry and tasteless.

Kamikaze roll: the soft shell crab was mostly batter and very rubbery, wasn't newly fried, probably premade and sitting in kitchen for a long time.

Salmon avocado roll: this was ok. Hard to mess this up, literally salmon and avocado.

Tuna avocado roll: terrible, tuna was rubbery sitting out in room temperature for way too long.

Sushi combo: not good, again, sushi was not properly kept and sitting out for a long time.

Soy sauce: Something is really off about the soy sauce they offer. I'm not really sure what. I think it must be a cheaper variety they are trying to cut costs on. It tastes weird and thicker consistency than normal.

I am surprised we didn't get sick. Ate maybe half our food and couldn't manage to eat anymore because it was so bad. They asked us if we wanted to take leftovers home and I said no, the food was not good and the guy just smiled and walked away. He did not care one bit and did not bother to ask what was wrong.

I wouldn't come her again if they offered me free food. I'd rather eat at McDonald's than come here. Probably one of the worst sushi places I've been to in NJ. Sushi village in little falls might be the only place that is worse than Double Ai.

Double Ai, ,the food I asked for was delicious, but the service was disappointing, my friend asked to change her plate, because what she asked was bad(Teriyaki chicken) and honestly I tasted it didn't have the flavor of Teriyaki , so they brought another plate of food,and after that they star been a little nasty in a way that we didn't finish eating and tried to take our plates and the appetizer, without asking if we were done, my friends and I have to tell them don't ,we still eating ,a mean Id been in restaurants,they are courteous, they asked,they offer , polite,but not here, disappointed

I have been to Double Ai several times and generally enjoy it. Today, the meal was fair at best. First, we ordered dumplings and they were cold in the center. Next, I ordered chicken teriyaki. Again, it was ice cold. In addition, I am almost 100 percent certain that it was Tyson grilled chicken on a plate with the teriyaki sauce placed over it. I tried to share my concerns but management didn’t seem terribly interested. I don’t like to leave negative reviews but the meal was not cheap and the customer service was just not good.

The food was ok but We will not be back because we don’t support restaurants that nickel and dime you by charging 3% using a credit card. Other local businesses don’t add credit card fees why do some restaurants? If you can raise your prices to cover your overhead then I can’t support your business please don’t do it and respect your client base.

Terrible service. The server would not sit my friend & I inside the restaurant. It was raining and started to get cold. She said No. I've never heard of a restaurant that would not move you to another table, especially that we were outside and it started to rain. There were so many available tables inside. I was also given a dirty plate. She even gave the check without being asked. We had no idea that it was even on the table. The food is good, I've always liked the restaurant. This is the first time I've experienced a distaste in the way we were treated. Major lack of respect for customer service.

We started the starters with won ton soup , miso and tum yon

Next we went to main course like Basel fried rice and drunken noodles chicken

And also we ordered seshmi plates

The best of our dinner is Sat and pepper shrimp with scallops

The waitresses are so polite , smiling face, and also the ambience of the restaurant was so benevolent . I’d surely recommend this restaurant for great sunset dinner …
