Wonderfood and drinks! We esppecially loved the crispy pork belly. Good service and atmosphere.

Diner Review №5

Food is so amazing!! Our server Sidney (like Australia) was wonderful. 10/10 love it here every time.

Diner Review №6

It's weird that the menu would not include eggs as an ingredient if it is. I had to send my food back but luckily, they were very accommodating and it tasted great once that got resolved.

I was very excited to try Waldo Thai. Unfortunately, I had a pretty bad experience.

I came in at 430 on a Wednesday for dinner with my wife. Someone had turned on an aromatherapy atomizer in the ladies’ room and the smell of jasmine was perfume-shop strong and the staff were nose-blind to it. I mean the wife and I were gagging from 50 feet away from the restrooms.

We were the only people dining when we went in and staff struggled to pay attention to us, preferring to congregate and socialize at the bar.

After ordering they came back to tell us they had given us an old specials menu and we would need to reorder our meal as they didnt make what we ordered any more.

After reordering (things we were less excited about), they only brought 2 of the three things we ordered. When we mentioned we did not get our first course (to our food runner, we only saw our waitress twice in 90 minutes) at all they promised to remove it from our bill.

When we received our bill it had the missing dish charged still. After the bill arrived, the first course then arrived.

Absolutely no attention to detail, we got only 2 of 7 items we ordered (well, technically 3), and service was either inattentive or missing altogether.

I’m a restauranteur. Restaurants can’t survive experiences like I just had for long. I hope somebody starts paying attention soon. I don’t think I’ll be back.

WHOA. Unbelievable curry and scallion pancakes and just about everything else. Just go

Diner Review №12

While we love their food, we have had three awful service experiences. We have heard similar feedback from others. While we live nearby, we have since decided to avoid even carryout there. These were some of the worst service experiences in my long life of eating out, including enjoying Thai food in Thailand.

Food: top shelf. FULL of flavor and very dynamic. Presentation is great. It's delicious Thai food, but as my girl said...ITS FOOD! You just want to eat it! Texture, flavor and quality is all there.
Service: always pleasant. I can tell the servers are a little overworked because they're running around like mad. But, they're always friendly, DO take time and are great with checking in at timely moments.
Atmosphere: might be the only thing not "perfect". But, it's still very nice. Presentable for sure. Calm and intimate as should be desired. Wonderful date night place. Just, some moments that as I look around...we still out here in Waldo for sure;).

Best Thai food in town! Encourage you to order a lot of things and share them family-style.

Diner Review №17

The names of dishes are definitely Thai, but I feel like the flavor has been... gentrified to appeal to the tastes of... Americans. Looks like a Thai dish, tastes like how an American would make a Thai dish at home. I found the garlic chicken wings to be overly salty, and the crab fried rice and pad thai to be quite bland and lacking any flavor or seasoning. Cocktails were pretty good. The pork belly was excellent. The lack of a spice level selection should have given away how gentrified the dishes it would be. Certainly not worth the amount of money they're asking for. The price, blandness, and atmosphere are catered toward a certain demographic. I want the full Thai cuisine experience of flavor and spice, which this place lacks. It's Thai food for white people who've never had real Thai food before.

Diner Review №18

Waldo Thai is fine overall, and the food is good, but the menu is surprisingly small, which left me disappointed. Classic staples like green and yellow curry—essentials of Thai cuisine—are missing, which feels like a major oversight. While the dishes I tried were enjoyable, the limited selection is a drawback. I might come back, but there are definitely better Thai restaurants in the area.

Diner Review №19

This is a must have when I am in Kansas City!

Diner Review №20

We always sit at the bar. Chase is wonderful. The drink selection is always well curated, as are the weekly special dishes. The team here seems to really enjoy their work and it’s a treat to be able to share in that joy.

Diner Review №21

Great local thai place. Lots of unique dishes and traditional ones. Lots of flavor and great smells. A little on the loud side on the restaurant part, bar side not so much.

I guess it’ll make a turd but super over rated for the hype, prices and portions

Diner Review №28

I found the service staff at Wildo Thai be truly excellent. Five stars. But the most important thing for any restaurant is the quality of the food. I ordered the pineapple chicken. It was truly unacceptable. It was obvious that this was an old meal that had been reheated. The chicken was tough and chewy with blisters from being reheated. It was served to me cold as it was put into a chilled pineapple shell. For $24 this meal was pathetic. I don’t understand how a chef worth their salt would even serve this to me. It was leftovers. Did someone reject their pineapple chicken the hour before and they gave it to me? Do they just have a huge pan of pineapple chicken they serve out of all day. If I am paying $24 for pineapple chicken, I expect to be served freshly cooked food. I literally left Waldo and went somewhere else to get something to eat. I’ll stick with Thai spice which is always fresh and much less expensive. 👎

Diner Review №39

Wow! Chef Pam is a miracle worker. We have had Thai food all over the country and this is by far one of the best we’ve ever had! Everything on the menu is perfect and prepared with excellent ingredients and love. The staff and everyone there is so kind and the food is AMAZING!

Can’t miss this place in KC!

Diner Review №40

Great restaurant! We tried a ton of the small plates and drinks. Pleasantly surprised how good all the dishes were! Our server was amazing as well!

Diner Review №41

Original, and tasty spin on traditional cusine

Diner Review №42

Diner Review №43

Overpriced, small portions, and sad service. We sat outside the waiter checked in once. Food taste was good but hardly enough to fill you. Everything was overpriced heavily for the portion sizes. Go to Bangkok pavilion large portions and still great flavor and great service.

Diner Review №44

By far the best Thai food I’ve ever had, since discovering 2 years ago, we routinely order (sometimes weekly 😅). Always consistent, delicious and great staff…highly recommend giving it a try!

Diner Review №45

This place is amazing! We sat at the bar because we didn't make a reservation but it was a happy experience! The food was delicious and the bartender was so friendly and nice! It was cool sitting at the bar interacting with him! YUM! When I visit kcmo again, I'll be back!

Diner Review №46

Food is excellent! The seafood curry is phenomenal and I don’t even like seafood that much. The tiger cry sauce is a must try for the spicy lover. Looking forward to returning!

Diner Review №47

Great experience there the other day! Food presentation was high level, taste was great quality and chef was made available to answer a question.

Diner Review №48

Excellent food and great service. My kids enjoyed the great ambience and decorations which reminded Thailand.

Diner Review №49

We went to Waldo Thai last week. Overall, it was a good experience. The ambiance is very nice, the service was excellent. We got a couple of cocktails, wings and shared an entree. All delicious.

No modifications are allowed to the items on the menu, so finding something you can eat might be difficult depending on your dietary requirements.

Diner Review №50

Everything we had was absolutely delicious.

Diner Review №51

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING EVERYTIME!!

Diner Review №52

Diner Review №53

The loud music blaring as soon as I entered the restaurant was a bit off-putting, but since I was there to try out the food, I stayed.
The menu offered a decent amount of dishes, but there were too many pork or shrimp-based ones and there was no option to swap ingredients either.
I am a big fan of Khao Soi and have had it in many Thai restaurants that serve it, so I decided to go with this dish. It was a whooping $22, maybe because it's served with brisket (no option to switch). When the bowl of Khao Soi arrived, I was a bit disappointed to see that the portion was smaller than other places despite the price. I was also surprised that the consistency of the curry felt more like it was a pasta sauce and not a curry broth. In other words, I decided right then that it would not be my go-to place when I have a Khao Soi craving, even if it is conveniently closer to my area. The taste was not bad, though, but it was not exceptional for me to want to go back.

Diner Review №54

The portion received for the $20 price is very little. I asked for a chicken pad Thai, once i got home I noticed it was shrimp. Will not be coming back.

Diner Review №55

Top five best meals we have had in Kansas City. We have had a lot of meals.

Loved it! The food is. so. good. Our waitress was lovely and helpful. My cocktail was perfect. And I LOVE when a place makes me feel special on my birthday with a surprise dessert!!! The coconut custard was a perfect way to end the night.

You just can't go wrong here.

Wow! Waldo Thai is the best restaurant I’ve been to in over 5 years. I’m a good cook and most places don’t “wow” me but they sure did. The food was absolutely top notch, flavorful, balanced. The service was good, the employees were prompt and very nice. It’s not your traditional Thai place with all the usually dishes but don’t let that keep you away!

Diner Review №61

Mids at best

Diner Review №62

Vegan menu and green mango sticky rice!

Diner Review №63

Their food is everything. 🤤 Highly recommend! Love the small plate options now.

Restrooms are lgbtq+ friendly! Not sure if the place is handicapped accessible.

Love the natural light from garage door windows and the porch+flowers behind the restaurant! I gave 3 stars for atmosphere, because to be brutally honest, it did not meet my expectations after all the hype. Apart from the cloth napkins and some really cool original-looking art, the rest of the interior seems like a low-budget remodel job with generic furniture and a smattering of discount store statues. 🙁
My totally unsolicited advice is... if the lighting could be more dim and strategically placed (on both sides of the restaurant, not just the bar), it might make a huge difference in perception. Or, you could embrace the natural light from the garage doors and consider some furniture, flooring, and decor upgrades over time. Lighting can either highlight or hide a lot of things... Use it wisely!

I truly love the food and look forward to coming here again. ☺️

Diner Review №64

Upscale Thai food. We tried the lab, Thai tea, and shrimp phad Thai - all really good. A bit pricey but I think for a nice night out every once in a while it’s worth it

Diner Review №65

This is not the cheapest Thai food you are going to find in town, but it's some of the most specialized and regionally-focused that I've seen outside of Thailand. Bright and on-point flavors. Prices might be a bit higher than you are used to but worth it. Also great cocktails!

Diner Review №66

Waldo Thai was a neighborhood favorite for a long time. However the service and quality have steadily declined over the last 2 years. Recent take out was soggy and we were ignored at pick up while host seated and chatted for quite some time with regulars. Food sat on counter which could have contributed to food issues. Refund was provided.

Diner Review №67

Waldo Thai is one of the best restaurants in KC. Not even one of the best Thai restaurants …just one of the best restaurants period. Delicious food and drinks. Love this place.

Diner Review №68

Diner Review №78

Loved coming on Small Plate Wednesday! The food was fantastic!

Diner Review №79

Waldo Thai is easily one of my favorite restaurants in the city, and small plate Wednesdays are a great way to explore different types of food from their amazing chef.

Diner Review №80

I travel quite often and absolutely love to eat Thai food. This was my first time to Kansas City and my first time to Waldo Thai. I was blown away. We ordered several different dishes and every single one of them was amazing! I’ve never had better Thai food anywhere in the world. I’ve been dreaming about this since traveling back home. I may have to take a trip back just for the food. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent.

Diner Review №81

Best Thai food in town, hands down. I’ve never had such delicious Thai food. The service is always excellent, it’s a big upscale but not in any pretentious way, in an easy-going nice way. The drinks/cocktail selection is always great, they have some really lovely drinks. Also the menu is always changing! This has been enjoyable since you can have some different options to choose from each time you go. I highly recommend this place for tourists and locals alike, it’s also a wonderful intimate date night spot!

Diner Review №82

Looking for Thai in Kansas City?? Look no further than Waldo Thai. Waldo Thai is known in the Kansas City area for cooking up AMAZING & authentic dishes. Popular menu items consist of Pad Thai, wontons, dumplings, wings, & more. The ginger sauce on dumplings will have you craving to return!
If you are looking for delicious cocktails (or mocktails), this spot has you covered. On beautiful, sunny days the windows are wide open.
If you are at a KC Current game, make sure to stop by the Waldo Thai stand!!
Did you know this spot is now open for lunch 11-2:30 too?? Make sure to stop in for lunch deals! If you haven't visited Waldo Thai yet, add this spot to your list asap!

My husband and I were so excited to try Waldo Thai, but I was disappointed. The food is decent, but the staff made us feel like we were an inconvenience. We arrived right when they opened at 4:30p. The host immediately asked if we had a reservation and looked at us like we were crazy that we didn’t, which I found odd since the place was completely empty. It remained fairly empty while we dined. He sat us at a bar table, which was not a problem, but the judgment wasn’t warranted - we told him this was our first time and we were excited, yet there was ZERO attempt to make us feel welcome. In fact, it was the exact opposite.

I ordered a vegetarian curry which was mediocre at best, but I asked for it spicy. The waitress immediately said “we don’t make any modifications to any of our dishes” instead of politely saying “oh, we prefer to let our guests add the spice level they like.” She brought me some spices to add but nothing reminiscent of my preference, even when I added EVERYTHING she brought.

Not worth a $70 tab.

I might be willing to give it another shot, but please don’t treat your guests like we are a bother. I’ve had much better experiences elsewhere in KC.

Diner Review №86

Amazing and authentic Thai food. Creative menu and cocktails. Always delicious and served to perfection. My favorite place to go!

Diner Review №87

There’s no doubt that the food is very, very good, but it is also literally double the price that it should be. Service is mediocre at best parking is problematic. I probably won’t be back even though I love Thai food.

Diner Review №88

Diner Review №89

Great food, fancy place

Diner Review №90

Most pretentious place I’ve been to in a long time and overpriced for barely above average Thai. Service was very slow and waiter couldn’t make eye contact.

Diner Review №91

The food was incredible. The best Thai food I have experienced.

Diner Review №92

We have been dying to try this place and we finally did, it was Meh…

The location and atmosphere felt like your typical unrenovated strip mall bar, but was pretty bumping with people!

The service was amazing, we loved our server J.Chang who makes awesome chili oil you can buy at made in KC!

We got a tom yum soup, and it was good but the portion was tiny, and spring rolls, again tiny portion and the meat inside was super dry and not flavorful, the fries were awesome!!

The short rib we got was okay… the curry was amazing but the meat was not fall off the bone and actually really tough like it was cooked in a rush! The Lana platter our friends got was a rip off!! Almost $40 for basically 1 sausage and some sauces and carrots lol 😂

Honestly for the price point you can go get a fine dining experience at Corvino or somewhere nice with live music and awesome exotic food ! I was expecting more Waldo Thai! Let me know when you step it up and we will be back!

Diner Review №93

Ordered takeout a couple weeks ago and found a dead fish head in it. I know that this is not a part of the dish as I ordered two Pad Thai’s and only one had this fishy inclusion. Pretty disappointed in this as I ate here a few months prior, hence the reason I returned.

Diner Review №94

Diner Review №95

Absolutely amazing. Best in KC. The food is out of this world. Great cocktails and small bites. The best example of its kind in town!!

Diner Review №96

Great food and great service.
Best Thai food in town!

Diner Review №97

Savannah was our server and she was excellent! The mussaman coconut curry and braised rib was INSANE. I haven’t been here in years and was worried the food wouldn’t hold up, but this place deserves its stellar reputation.

Diner Review №98

Amazing! The wings are very good and spicy! The grilled steak was oh so tender, and flavorful. Great place!

Diner Review №99

Probably the best Thai food I’ve had in the city. Great food and fast service.

Diner Review №100

We had great service and everyone was very friendly.

Best Thai I've ever had. Couldn't have had a better experience!

Diner Review №101

The Peek Gai Phad Graprao (48-hour brined chicken wing) is terrible. The chicken meat is dry, so probably the quality of the food wasn't the best. The Phad Kee Mow Nua (stir-fried fresh flat rice noodle) is salty. On the other hand, I like the combination of curry, taro, and basil in a coconut yellow curry.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is too dark for us to look at the food that we are eating. The table is also small, too. Last but not least, the portion size and the cost are ridiculous (expensive for a small portion), which I've never seen in any other Thai restaurant in Kansas City.

A special place with special food. We got the chud laab (pictured) from the lanna platters and it was incredible! Definitely going to come back on a special occasion and get the biggest one. Alongside this, we also got the coconut yellow curry to try as our main and it was SO delicious! We also got the miang khum appetizer and it was so fun making little leaf wraps with all the dishes of dried shrimp, ginger, nuts, lime, etc. Everything was delicious, and beautiful, a true culinary delight! Two of us split all of this and we both brought boxes home.

Diner Review №106

Delicious authentic northern Thai food. Great service. We ordered Miang Khum, Seu Rong Hai, Chud Nam Prik, Laab Moo Kua, Tum Kanoon, Garlic Fried Rice and Coconut Custard. We will definitely come back here next time we visit Kansas City.

A must visit in KC! best crab rangoons & curry I’ve had in my life. The authentic food and warm staff (James and Pam) made this place feel like home. We dined family style and everything we had was phenomenal but the standouts were:
-Tiger cry beef
-Pumpkin curry
-Seafood curry
-Drunken noodles
-Pad Thai
-Coconut custard

Diner Review №110

I'm Thai and the photos of food from this place made me take my American family to try Thai food during the holiday week. Parking was a little bit difficult to find. Service was slow. They were understandable maybe because of the holiday. The food options surprised me and the authentic flavor of Thai cuisine was very impressive, except Somtam which had no lime flavor included. The portion of food is very small, comparing to the price. We paid over $260 for 6 people, not including tips. Noone felt full back home but we think we paid for the experience of Thai food. I think this place is good for a party of two, not for a big group.

Diner Review №111

Loved every single dish we ordered from here. The Thai toast is a bomb. The platter I had amazing Thai sausage. Coconut crème brûlée has rich coconut flavor with sweet, soft cream with caramelized sugar scent on it. The chef was super friendly and really took her time to explain her dishes for us. This is a go-to place in Kansas city. 캔자스 시티에서 꼭 가야 되는 식당입니다. ㅈㄴ 맛있어요.

Diner Review №112

Cocktails are good but the wine list does not have a good selection. Oddly, our food had no flavor. I asked to order something else but the server never returned to take my order. I flagged down a different server and this second person also did not ask what was wrong with the food. Neither of us ate our entrees and staff did not ask us about it. Poh Taek is $33 and was composed of chewy, overcooked seafood. The Gai Tord Phad Khing tasted like dry, regular-American chicken for $28. I like that the portion sizes are not super sized, however.

Diner Review №113

Diner Review №114

Last night our food had no flavor and the seafood in my Poh Taek was chewy and overcooked so I politely asked to order something else. The server did not ask what was wrong with the food and did not return to take my new order. I flagged down a different server, who also did not ask why I sent back the food and also expressed no apology or concern. How do they know the chef didn't mix up the salt with the sugar in the kitchen? My companion did not eat his Gai Tord Phad Khing but neither server noticed this. His food tasted like plain American chicken, although there was a small amount of sauce that had flavor. He also liked his cocktail, which had a beautiful blood orange garnish but I don't recall the name of the drink.

I did not ask either server to take the item off my bill but one of them did this without mentioning it. They seemed most intent on just turning our table for the next set of customers.

Waldo Thai food looks beautiful and has fresh ingredients but it just tastes like American food with a high price tag (Poh Taek $33/Gai Tord $28) Even the rice has no flavor. Compare it to the long-grain rice served with meals at Taj Mahal Indian Cuisine (also in Waldo). It is simply-prepared rice that's delicious.

Skip Waldo Thai--go to Lemongrass Thai in downtown OP; have the Kha Soi (under "native dishes" on the menu). Order extra noodles to take home with the leftovers. Lemongrass Thai is fantastic.

Diner Review №115

The food here was definitely delicious, I had the Tom yum soup and the pumpkin coconut curry with braised beef. However, for an entree to be $32, not a large portion and come with one small bowl of rice is reaching. That’s very much fine dining prices and it’s more expensive than most places in Kansas City. On a positive note, the roasted coconut fan dessert was amazing and appropriately priced.

Our server was also very sweet and friendly and we loved the service.

Diner Review №116

In town for Turkey Day and my brother took me to Waldo for dinner on Wednesday. We went Wednesday because this place has a 'small plates' special running.
With reservation we were prompty seated by attentive staff, drinks quickly followed and we went through 4 small plates between us. Staff was attentitive going forward and orders timeley arrived. Ambience was lovely.
Everything I sampled was exquisitely tasty. Not a bad plate among them, though if I had to pick I would point toward the Sakoo Sai Moo or Kow Moo Grob as my favorites.

Diner Review №117

Make sure to roughly know what to expect about your order. A waiter brought me the wrong type of spring roll, fortunately, another waitress who took my order caught the wrong order and fixed it. The food is good.

Waldo Thai is a must when in Kansas City. We stopped in for the first time when while visiting KC from out-of-state for a Chiefs game. Now we live in Kansas City and are blessed to be able to eat here any time we want. I dream about the crispy rice! Ask for Eric. He's the best!

Diner Review №122

I just moved into the Waldo neighborhood and was so excited to try Waldo Thai based on feedback from friends and coworkers. Even on a busy Wednesday night the host was able to find two seats at the bar for my friend and me - great start! I ordered the pork belly, which I was told shortly thereafter you were out, so I ordered the fried chicken instead. The bartender forgot to put in the chicken so we waited 20 minutes for him to enter it again, and he very nicely offered to take it off our bill. Minutes later I heard a patron at the bar successfully order the pork belly, apparently you were not out. When the bill came the fried chicken was not removed from our bill. I live a mile down the street and was impressed with the food - I'll be back! - but this was not the ideal first impression.

Diner Review №123

Had so much food and it all was delicious - came with a group of 7 and got to try 8-9 different things. One of the best Thai experiences I ever had.

Diner Review №128

The food was great and service was being exceptional!! I love that the menu is always rotating. We got the shrimp cakes, tiger beef cry with AMAZING sauce, and the $64 platter. Will definitely bring my family back!

Diner Review №129

Classy vibe and service. Gourmet level authentic Thai cuisine. Top notch cocktails. Great happy hour. What’s not to love. This isn’t your typical Thai-American spot with sugar laden noodles. This is aromatic, fresh, and legit stuff with creative twists and turns. Let the servers pick your apps and mains. Can’t go wrong.

Diner Review №130

First time! Super delicious! Green curry, duck, apps. All delicious flavors!

Diner Review №131

Best meal I have had in KC!!! Ask for James and he will Guide you in your choice of an amazing meal.

Diner Review №132

Make Reservations. Had the Khao Tod Nam Sod, Giaw Neung, Khan Toke Lek and Phad Kee Mow Nua. I thought the dumpings, the pork belly and pahd kee mow nua were really good. They rest was good but to me these stood out. We sat at the bar, because we didn't have reservations. The bartender, who took our order, did a good job of describing the menu, but he never refilled our drinks. The restroom was different. I had to go back out and look again, to be sure i was in the correct place.

Diner Review №133

Dismissive male waiter who had an attitude and rushed us to order. Extremely dim restaurant to the point I had to use my cell phone flashlight to even read the menu. In an attempt to be trendy and boutique, the menu was quite confusing with overpriced entrees/shareable platters. Was reluctantly sat at the bar since we did not make a reservation, which I did not expect we would need for a 2 dollar sign Thai restaurant in KC. Flavors were average, food was room temp, and it was nothing any Asian mother couldn’t replicate at home. Also, no substitution for an ingredient when you’re paying minimum $30+ dollars for anything on their menu is ridiculous. No heat, dry chicken, nothing special or authentic about the food. Please remember you’re a Thai restaurant in suburban KC. You’re not doing anything that’s a culinary revolution so please get over yourselves.

Diner Review №134

Spectacular food!!

Diner Review №135

It was hot and cramped in the dining area, but the bar area was nice and cool. That's the bad and now for the good.
1. Awesome flavors of food. High quality and very good.
2. After eating here I never want some Thai restaurant that serves the standard stuff. No Thai food at some 1 or 2 star restaurant could come close to the food at Waldo Thai.
3. Service was good and food was served timely.

I highly recommend this Thai restaurant if you want a good Thai food experience.

Diner Review №136

This is not your average, run-of-the-mill pad Thai and potstickers place. The menu here is much more upscale and thus much more interesting. They’ve put a great deal of thought into flavor and texture combinations, so everything I tried was absolutely delicious.

The cocktail menu is also impressive. On the recommendation of my dining companion, I tried the Mekong River. It really was as remarkable as she said it would be. I was going to try one of the seasonal drinks with the entree, but they were out of the ingredients for it. Still, it didn’t exactly hurt my feelings to have a second Mekong River.

I think I may have caught Waldo Thai on an off day. In addition to the drink issue, the air conditioner in the dining area wasn’t keeping pace with the heat outside. The warmth and the crowd made things a little stifling. And the parking was limited, with most of the nearby spots apparently reserved for the Jimmy John’s next door.

But the food, drinks and service were more than worth some minor inconveniences.

Diner Review №137

Food was very tasty but not spicy at all. We got traditionally spicy dishes and my Sriracha at home was spicier than the dishes. I overheard another table ask the server if the Tiger Cry Beef was blow your face off hot, he said it was a medium heat. Definitely ask for spicy if you go here and want spicy. That said, their food is very delicious and flavorful. It was just lacking any heat.

Diner Review №138

So tasty. Just delish
It is different food than other Thai places and the food is amazing.

Diner Review №139

Thai food is in general street food. To overthink this and try to make it boutique food is a mistake. Our dinner was adequate if overpriced. The fact that they refuse substitution is not acceptable especially in the days of tick born and other allergies. This is probably my new least favorite Thai even after the hour wait for the food truck version.

Diner Review №140

They are the most savory Thai restaurant in Kansas city.

Diner Review №141

Some of the best thai food in KC! They have awesome drinks too!

Diner Review №142

Diner Review №143

Amazing food and the braised beef was amazingly tender that it fell off the bone. Each dish’s presentation was also amazing. Never expected KC to have such an establishment for Thai food.

Diner Review №144

I was expecting way more.
I'm 6' and a little over 300 lbs and my friend is 6'2" about 230 lbs and they sat us at a small 2 top by the bar while other smaller 2 person parties sat at larger 4 top tables.
The server was not attentive at all! I would've ordered another drink but he took too long to bring the first one and to refill waters and to take our order. It wasn't busy at all when we were there. He just seemed aloof.
My friend and I tried a sampler dinner for 2. I really didn't enjoy most of it and it wasn't cheap.
The dish with the pork belly was pretty good. The rest was mediocre at best.

Diner Review №145

Amazing Happy Hour apps and drinks. The dumplings are too die for. Best Thai food in town

Diner Review №146

The food was amazing! Huge variety of authentic Thai dishes. I loved the Laab Mua Kua Lanna, Yum Jim Gai, and Kow Phad Ped. Flavors were bold and fresh.

Tried to eat here on a Thursday evening. Entire bar was open along with several tables. Was told by hostess everything was reserved, including the individual bar stools at the bar. They take reservations for individual bar stools. This place thinks they're in downtown Chicago and not South Waldo

Diner Review №150

One of my absolute favorite restaurants, excellent food, top tier ingredients, perfect service. Their menu is amazing, with traditional Northern Thai cuisine and seasonal dishes that make each visit feel special. This may not be the spot to grab a cheap Pad Thai but it is one of the best restaurants in the city, period.

Don’t expect egg rolls and chicken Pad Thai! This place isn’t your ordinary Americanized Thai restaurant. We had Traditional Lanna Experience small plate, red curry and Gai Phad Supparod. The red curry was flavorful and the small plate was fun to try different flavors.

Downsides were their menu which was tiny to read and the price was pretty high, but if you like authentic Thai, this is the place to go.

Diner Review №156

The food is phenomenal. A bit of advice: If there are two of you, order three small plates and share. We were so glad we did this. After enjoying the dumplings for a starter (they were indescribably delicious; among the best I've ever had), we ordered the Sai Ua, Thum Kanoon, and the Gaeng Nor Mai Dong. Hands down, the Gaeng Nor Mai Dong was our favorite. I want to return in the morning and have some more for breakfast. But we don't regret trying three options. It was a great way to explore the menu.
The service needs to be mentioned, too. They took great care of us without being interruptive, and were happy to answer stupid questions or offer suggestions.
The only drawback is parking, and Waldo Thai really has no control over that. FAR too many of the spaces in the back are reserved for a sandwich chain next door. It seemed like the sandwich shop had more reserved spaces than chairs inside. And (of course) they weren't busy. We parked across the street, and it was way worth it. We will be back.

Diner Review №157

Food was really authentic and flavourful. Parking can be tricky and avg cost of large plate is $30. Not sure if they were under staffed but service was so so. Overall I recommend this place. The wonderful food trumps any cons from my experience.

Diner Review №158

Perfection from unique apps and entrees to knowledgeable and helpful service, to delicious cocktails with a spiciness to keep your memory fresh. 11.5/10

The food is amazing and the music is always on point.

Diner Review №161

This place is so incredible that even my burps taste good after I eat here.

Diner Review №162

Food was ok, definitely have had better Thai, for half the price. we arrived 30 min after opening. we were informed that we could only eat there if we were less than an hour and a half. Whole place had one table with two people there. Basically if the parking lot (6-8 spaces) is full. Might as well look somewhere else. Not worth it

Diner Review №163

We've ordered for takeout numerous times. It's always spot on, delicious, and one of our go tos!

Diner Review №164

Foods always good

Diner Review №165

Chicken wings, dumplings, chicken stew were incredible. Fantastic drinks with a large and well stocked bar. Attentive service. One of the better dining experiences I have had in KC

If you're looking for mouth watering Thai cuisine, attentive and thoughtful service, and a romantic and upscale atmosphere, look no further. Waldo Thai is all this and more, every dish is a delight, something unique with every item, with the surroundings and staff to match! Go broaden your culinary horizons! This gem is definitely one of KC's best!

Diner Review №171

Cozy place, Great tasting food, great service. To start, we had the Pla Meuk Ga Ta (Calimari) I rated that appetizer a 5/5. Also the Khao Tod Nam Sod ( Crispy rice with lettuce) was interesting and rated a (3). My main dish was Phad Kee Mow Nua ( Noodles with veggies and steak) which was very tasty and authentic. (5)
The house tea was enjoyable with a slight vanilla aftertaste (5). All in all the food was very good and authentic. My only 2 negatives were difficult parking and high price of dining. If you want to get away to a different part of the world in your own city, this would be the place.

Currently eating my leftovers as I type this out. Waldo Thai has been my favorite place in KC for the past 3 years so I believe it’s due for a review. I end up eating here at least once each season and am always thrilled to try their new menu selections. I have never received something I didn’t like here. Their food flavor profiles are out of this world and the cocktails are so fun and creative. My absolute go-to every time is the Phad Kee Mow Nua. I’d want this dish catered at my wedding, my funeral, etc. It’s that good. If you don’t overstuff yourself (which I do every time) their dessert options are so unique and delicious. The staffing is always wonderful and they offer great suggestions. If you haven’t tried this yet you are truly missing out.

Diner Review №177

Had a great experience dining at Waldo Thai. They were very accommodating with our family. Food was excellent, very flavorful....Can't wait to go back!

Diner Review №178

The sun was in our eyes and they had the whole place reserved without many guests present. We left.

Diner Review №179

Best Thai food in KC by far. Incredible service and food. Will definitely return.

Diner Review №180

That was one of the best meals of my life. Can't believe it took me this long to try this place out. Just unbelievably well crafted food, and lots of it. Not cheap, but cheap isn't how you get one of the best meals of your life. Everything was amazing, but that lamb and potato curry set a new bar for how perfectly a dish can be conceived and executed. I'm still afterglowing.

Diner Review №181

Somewhat expensive, but best Thai food in KC.

Diner Review №182

My girlfriend and I had quite a strange experience. Food was alright, but came out mildly warm, not hot like a good thai spot.

The staff, particularly our waiter, was giving us strange vibes the whole time, just a bit creepy towards both of us.

The interior is pretty poorly decorated, and just over all wasn't a good dining experience, hard to put in words.

For the fairly high price a head if you're factoring in drinks, would much rather go somewhere else.

Diner Review №183

Food is incredible, great service

Diner Review №184

Service was fine, food was good, everything is a little pricey.

Diner Review №185

Such a delight! The food is ambitious, surprising and most of all delicious! I know I will be thinking about my meal for days (such flavors)!

Diner Review №186

The food is a more traditional thai food and was delicious. They have set entrees and as well as a menu that let's you share dishes among 2 to 4 people. The cocktails were good as well.

Diner Review №189

The review is for service, not the food.

Made a reservation online, was running late, called numerous times to let them know I was running late, phone was never picked up.
Walked through the door 13 minutes late for my bar res, saw my spot with “reserved” sign, was told my reservation was cancelled, the employee told me they have a 15 min policy. The hostess was rude and unaccommodating, eyerolled and gloated “sorrryyyyy”, essentially accused me of lying when I told her I called and the phone was never answered with “Well, I was here the whole time”. Overall had no interest in “hosting”.

Will be a while before I go back, if ever. You are in hospitality business, train up your staff.

Diner Review №190

Definitely understand why this place is a James Beard Nominee. The service was fantastic even with the new menu our server Nathan gave us a rundown on the updates. The food was incredible. Will definitely be visiting again.

Diner Review №191

I love Khao soi. But when you pay 32$ for it and the meat that comes with it is so fatty you can’t even chew it it’s so slimy and bouncy in your mouth. Then it’s not my favorite. The broth was amazing but this hunk of meat was pure fat and chewy tendon. I was so bummed because I paid so much for this dish and the broth was good but the meat was so gross. I attempted the next day to dissect the fat off and this is what came off HALF of the meat. This was the whole piece of meat that I paid for. If this dish was chicken I would totally order it but you overpay for a hunk of fat. That stinks. And both mine and my husbands piece of meat in our Khao soi was like this

Diner Review №193

Best authentic Thai food in the city, my favorite place for top-notch drinks and Thai food. 👌 very far from me but more than willing to drive an hour to enjoy the world-class food selections. If anyone rates it under 5 you are severely underrating this place. The people who work here are amazing as well, from the kitchen to the front door.

Diner Review №194

Food reminded me of Thailand. Great flavors. It's a Northern Thai cuisine restaurant focused on small plates. Menu is different than other Thai restaurants.

Diner Review №195

We ordered takeout from here last night. We ordered the Gui Chai, Kow Phad Pu, and the Gang Phet Taohoo. The Gui Chai was DELICIOUS. I was also happy with my Gang Phet Taohoo. It was delicious and well seasoned.

I tried a bite of my husband's Kow Phad Pu. I didn't care for it. But I thought it's because I don't eat meat. But he didn't like it either. He said it didn't taste right to him. He wasn't happy with the flavor. He's salty about spending so much on a meal he didn't care for. So he wouldn't recommend that.

But I DEFINITELY would what I got.

We had the pleasure of attending the 2022 Holiday Pop Up! It was incredible!

We sampled several of the drinks and all of the entrées that were offered.

The appetizer, Ricotta & Candied Tomato Chili Jam, was a great balance of creamy, sweet, and spicy.

The Kabocha Salad was good and refreshing but could have used a little more dressing.

The Roasted Lemongrass Chicken Thigh was absolutely incredible - moist and delicious chicken and the pork sausage stuffing it was paired with was fantastic. That sauce was to die for!

The Sticky Pork Belly was perfect - if anyone knows how to make pork belly it’s Waldo Thai. Loved the spicy cranberry namjim it was served with. It was really, really, spicy but so good!!!

The Crispy Shallot Coated Shrimp was perfectly cooked - the shrimp was large, succulent, and delicious. It was served on top of a green bean casserole for a fun Thai holiday fusion.

The Braised Beef Short Ribs were nothing short of divine -perfectly tender with that all-day cooked flavor that ribs require. They were paired with an excellent sweet potato.

We also sampled six of the special cocktails that were offered including the Holiday Whobee Whatee, Holy Spirits, and Nutcracker Fashioned. And then for dessert we had the Grandma Kisses, Bah Rumbug, and Yule Shoot Yer Eye Out.

Chef Pam Liberda stopped by the table and chatted for a few minutes about the menu.

All of the staff were decked out in festive and fun Christmas suits, holiday sweaters, and reindeer costumes and there was a Hallmark Christmas movie on TV. They nailed the homey and fun Christmas vibe.

Overall the holiday pop up was absolutely amazing - we’re looking forward to returning to Waldo Thai hungry (and thirsty) for more.

More upscale than a lot of Thai restaurants, with delicious food and a welcoming atmosphere. Really good, all of it, though some of the dishes were a bit greasier than anticipated.
