Casual Thai restaurant. Made from scratch, natural, and fresh ingredients.
How can you rate this place anything less than 5 stars! This restaurant is literally a hidden gem! I came here for the 1st time yesterday, due to craving a type of Chinese cuisine. We settled on Thai. I ordered the Thai fried egg rolls, and the yum soup. Our order arrived very quickly and the food was absolutely amazing. The soup was the best I’ve ever had. It was very flavourful. I would absolutely return!
The level of service we received was EXCEPTIONAL. While ordering, we asked to remove one of the ingredients from a dish. From that one request, our server asked if there was an allergy so that she could ensure we would be ok. After we told her it was just a matter of taste/preference, she kept that in mind and would mention when the ingredient was included in other dishes and asked us if we also wanted it left out of them. I’m not sure if I’ve ever had this level of almost consultative service before. It was amazing. And the food was just as good! The massman curry was the most flavorful I’ve had in the Twin Cities and the fried green beans are DANGEROUSLY good. Can’t wait to come back!
Small restaurant right on grave Ave St. Paul- Surprisingly busy for a Monday lunch time - very loud in here and echoed noise
Service was a little slow but they were friendly enough
Food portions are basically dinner entrees so be aware if ordering at lunch you will be taking home leftovers
The Penang red curry is delicious but I was not a fan of the drunken noodles
The spring rolls were excellent but the fried egg rolls were not a favorite
The pineapple fried rice looks amazing and if you like sweet with savory you will enjoy it
I would come back here if craving Thai food in the area
Amazing Thai food! Everything comes hot and the portions are huge and totally worth it. Inside it’s clean, modern and a large space. We didn’t have a reservation for a Friday night but were able to get seated right away.
I started with a Thai iced tea and we (party of 3) shared the chicken satay as a starter. The iced tea was perfectly sweet and the satay, which comes with 4 pieces was delicious. For my entree I got the pad see yew with chicken. They have a spice scale from 1-5 with 5 being Thai spicy. I ordered a level 4 and thought it was the perfect amount of spice, but I usually handle spice well. The portion was big enough that I had plenty to take home. Our waiter was very friendly and checked on us often.
There’s street parking right on grand Ave or any of the neighborhood streets.
Overall an amazing dinner and I definitely see myself coming back!
Had a very nice lunch here with my cousin. The food is quite authentic. Had spring rolls, Pad Thai, and Laab. I was so excited they had chicken Laab, most places just have pork. You can even get tofu Laab here. The spring rolls had rather a lot of lettuce but very fresh.
My cousin and I hadn't seen each other in a long time, so we were there quite awhile. Staff was very patient with us, though did not offer us any refill on water 😆
Always good and fresh!
Incredible masaman curry! Best I’ve had in years. Big portion sizes too!
Absolutely terrible customer service. Do not order take out from here as they will double charge you.
These guys always deliver the goods. Drunken noodles for the win every time. It's easily one of my favorite spots on grand.
I already made reservations for my next visit. And I’ll take photos next time. It was absolutely delicious. Everything was amazing. I went there with my family (husband and 13 year old daughter). We ordered wontons, egg rolls, red curry, basil fried rice, and pad Thai. Service was great. They definitely are a busy establishment! I recommend making reservations. This is now our go to Thai restaurant. I highly recommend!! I can’t wait to eat my left overs tomorrow.
Not too expensive, really good food. Definitely going to eat there again. Would recommend to anyone wanting Thai food or willing to explore.
Every bit of food was so delicious. I will be going back for the massaman curry as soon as possible. The Thai basil stir fry was delicious as well, with perfectly fried cubes of tofu. Perfect bite sized cream cheese wontons, big delicious egg rolls, and mouthwatering spicy cashews. Someone nearby got the pineapple fried rice and it look stunning—I’m getting that next time for sure. I want everything on the menu! There was good teamwork among the staff, and they were so quick to deliver the food fresh. Prices were reasonable too. Overall, I’m stuffed but very satisfied.
Server kept ignoring us although we called her multiple times. We politely informed her (chewing gum, and mean looking) that we were ready to order but instead of coming to assist us, she walked right into kitchen. She did came out to dine area but kept ignoring us. That was really rude. We are probably not coming to coconut Thai again.
No reason why the service at front desk girl is really mean in here, when I came in she is chatting with other people and when I with my friend ready to order, she ignore us multiple times and lastly ask her colleague to help us order which take me long time. No sure is this disrespect or racist cuz I am Asian. But attitude is so bad in comparison the way they talk to other people.
We found this place while looking for a quick meal after music lessons at Music on Grand. Overall, the service was really good. The food was very good but very salty. We didn't love the fried tofu (way to overfried), but the sauce was good. We had the drunken noodles and pad thai and overall, great meal! We can see why their takeout business is bumpin'! We'd go back (but request LOW salt).
The food is good. The staff is so friendly.
Good Thai food

I was a little hesitate when I walked in and the restaurant looked like a hospital cafeteria. I was hungry though so I decided to stay. Our server was fantastic (wish I would have caught his name). The amount of food we got for the price was amazing. The presentation of the food was gorgeous (pineapple fried rice and veggie green curry) and the food tasted as good as it looked. I was pleasantly surprised and I will definitely return. Just wish the atmosphere was more cozy.
Based on all these great reviews I was expecting it to be better. We tried 3 curries and they were all good, but Pad See Yew is our favorite item (we ordered 3 of them) and it was not good. In fact, it was by far the least flavorful Pad See Yew we have ever had across multiple states and at least four locations here in Saint Paul. The chicken was left in large strips that were quite dry and tasteless, the noodles were a bit bitter and not flavorful, and I don’t recall seeing even a single piece of broccoli. Maybe the noodle cook was just having a bad night, but we will not be returning to this restaurant.
Many years ago I tasted a pad Thai dish that Hit every single note and was delicious. I’ve been chasing that high ever since. Tonight I found that place. The pad Thai is amazing. 10/10
Food is hit or miss, usually miss.
Service is subpar. Don’t waste your time.

The food is delicious! Service is always quick and efficient, definitely one of my favorite places to eat. The pad Thai, curries, chicken wings and ice cream are all great!
Curry was fresh and flavorful. All of our food was really good. Nice atmosphere and great service as well. I highly recommend if you are looking for good Thai.
Had spring rolls, Pad Thai and Drunken Noodles, phenomenally tasty. Service was good, kind staff, quick seating, lots of water refills.
Best pad Thai I’ve had! Fresh, crunchy and delicious spring rolls. Friendly server and great atmosphere. Soooo many vegetarian options! Will be back!!
Seriously impressed. Best Thai food I've had in Minnesota.
Amazing. Best Curry in town.
Awesomeness indeed! Highly recommended for Thai food cravings! Great fast good quality service.
excellent food, very nice woman waited on us
Awesome place, great food!!
Saturday night, close to close of restaurant. I was seated immediately, ordered the chicken satay, a glass of Pinot Grigio and the squash in red curry with basil and peppers.
Satay arrived looking beautiful, accompanied with peanut and cucumber sauces. I was amazed that I could not take a bite from the skewer. In fact the piece, perfectly golden outside was stingy and chewy. Unable to cut it with a fork. I attempted a thicker skewer and after one bite found same. At that point I asked the wait staff to please return it and remove from my bill.
The manager came to my table and argued with me for several minutes…since I consumed 1/4 of the order he would not refund me. He questioned my motives and refused to consider that perhaps the chicken was not up to kitchen standard.
The red curry was delicious. The satay was not. The way in which the issue was handled was unprofessional.
This is the best Thai food I have had in the Twin Cities! Delicious food, wonderful service, and clean atmosphere.
Delicious food! I definitely recommend trying this place out.
SLURP <- me when I ate my noodles
Very clean interior and friendly excellent service. Pad Thai chicken and a Diet Coke for 25 bucks with tip but that’s par for the course nowadays. The pad Thai was very, very good. Big and plentiful pieces of chicken and spiced perfectly
Quiet and very good food.
This is the most authentic Thai restaurant I have been to in a long time. Staff is so polite and patient and food is fresh. Will be going back repeatedly. The servings are very big.
Best Thai around, can’t get enough!
Amazing food everything is perfect and delicious. The hostess Alyssa is wonderful and extraordinary helpful! Would totally recommend coming here👍
Delicious curry, but a little spendy
The food was great; everything tasted amazing. The top thing I recommend is that after you have your delightful meal, get a cheesecake roll. The cheesecake roll is legit and now my favorite cheesecake in Minnesota.

So rarely these days so I visit a restaurant and go “that was worth the money.” Yes inflation is a thing… but I’m frugal and I like delicious food I can’t make at home.. for a fair price. This place is so tasty. Gf got some vegetable chicken stir fry thing, and I got chicken pad Thai. I’m so picky about my pad Thai. Lots of people make it with ketchup instead of taramind 😳. But coconut Thai does not ! It’s seriously so good, and servers were the most attentive I’ve seen in literal years. Our water was never less than 1/3 full. Gf loved her food and we both had lots to take home. My friends I can really put food away :) but I had an entire pint to bring home. Very pleased. Will 1000% go here again.
I did think the appetizers were overpriced for amount of food (we got 6 wontons for $9) but they were delicious! Just might skip those next time.
Awesome place!
Orders the fried rice with shrimp it was really nice but they’ve recently changed the shrimps they use
Great food - I had the Laab salad. Very flavorful. Just one negative - the sticky rice was served in a bamboo covered vessel, with the rice tightly wrapped in a plastic bag. I dumped it all in a mound as it was shaped onto my plate. A good portion of it hardened like rock. It would be good to serve the rice differently so that doesn't happen or to explain how to fluff the rice upon serving it.
Both of my lunch companions had good things to say about their food too.
The service was very good. The room has many hard surfaces so sound travels a great deal. A few rude customers were using speaker phone, which was extremely anoying. The restaurant needs to address that issue. Perhaps posting a sign would help or simply asking those few to not use speaker phone.
I love everything at coconut Thai! We went with a party of five and everyone was super happy with their dish.
Good is good and reasonably priced. Atmosphere is stark modern and sound was not pleasant.
Everything was great , but the acoustics are really terrible. please put something in to help. it's so loud !
Best tap water in the metro
LOVED the food but for me, the eco-friendly takeout packaging sealed the deal. I’ll for sure be back! Thanks for dinner!
Amazing place! I had pad thai and it was delicious. I had hot level 4 out of five and it was perfect for me. My husband had pineapple fried rice and he loved it. But! The star of the day was fried banana with coconut ice cream. I don’t know when was the last time we enjoyed a dessert this much! It was so so good. Highly recommend!
This place is truly magical for how great the food is and how quick the service is and it really captures the feeling that you are Thailand.
Nice restaurant with fresh delicious food (prices may seem a little high but the portions are very generous!), excellent customer service, many vegetarian options, and clean pleasant interior.
Best food!!!
Great friendly staff.
There are a lot of GF options.
The food was delicious. We’ll definitely go back. The service was somewhat slow, which was odd because we were one of the few tables occupied and there was 3-4 staff standing around. Either way, the servers were kind. Also the dessert is overpriced.
Best curry, hands down. Everything is wonderful! Large portions at great price. Manager is amazing! Very friendly, very accommodating. Love this place!
Fantastic food! We've ordered for pickup here now about 15 times, and each time we've been very happy with our meals. I've eaten in once here as well, and the food was as usual excellent as was the service and atmosphere. We'd definitely recommend a visit! The cream cheese wontons and fried calamari are particularly spectacular.
Great food! I love their Massaman Curry!
Great place for dinning, more than enough food, clean place, friendly staff.
This place looks great....
But 25 minutes in and the drink order doesn't show up, the host goes out for their vape session for the 3rd time and the server seems lost in space with only 4 active tables in the restaurant....I guess they are a take out place. Absolutely avoid this place for dinning in.
As I keep trying I will say the food is excellent. But I still would avoid trying to dine in...
Food was excellent. Tried their seafood curry, Pineapple fried rice with shrimp and curry fried rice with chicken; 10/10. Service was great, nice and clean place. Portions were pretty good too.
Always amazing food! This is our favorite restaurant and we have never had anything less than great food here.
The appetizers (chicken wings, wrapped shrimp and chicken satay) were good. The main entrees were not as flavorful as other Thai food I've had. We ordered the basil stir fry with beef, the pineapple fried rice and a curry dish. The beef was so tough and the flavors were off. It's more of a Chinese style stir fry than a Thai style stir fry. The fried rice was fine but didn't have the Thai flavors. The curry was probably the better dish out of those three entrees. I don't think I'll be returning. There are better Thai restaurants in St.Paul. They don't have any food options that are really kid friendly either. I would not recommend this place for families with young kids.
We love getting take out and dining in! Fantastic curry and Pad Thai, food is flavorful, hot, and fast!
It was a little loud, hard to hear conversation across a booth table. Food was great and service was friendly and helpful.
Always fresh and delicious
First timer, take out, it was great. Medium is plenty hot for the spicy lovers. Pad thai and the basil fried rice both excellent.
We ordered takeout from Coconut Thai this weekend, and my only disappointment is that I didn't know about this place sooner. Thai food is far and away my favorite, but it can be hard to find places with gluten free options that don't involve removing much of the flavor and/or texture of the original (non-gluten free) dish. Coconut Thai makes most of their dishes gluten-free BY DEFAULT - several more are gf upon request - which is remarkable and deeply appreciated. We got the red curry with chicken, the pad see yew (also with chicken), and the pineapple curry (again with chicken - I know, we need to branch out), and they were all superb. I echo what everyone else has said about it being reminiscent of Supatra, but with the addition of dozens of gluten-free menu options. It's like the Supatra of my dreams! Can't wait to continue working my way down the menu very soon, as I plan to try just about everything.
We have tried so many Thai places in MN and this is the hands down winner. Flavor was great, portion sizes were generous and prices were reasonable. This is going to be our new go to Thai place.
Update: We have been here three times now and the food is consistently good, another plus! Also, some Thai places use a lot of oil in their food but this place is NOT one of them which I really appreciate.
The food was great, we got Pad See Yew and Panang Curry, both spot on.
BUT we were there on Valentine’s Day and waited almost 50 minutes for food. We realized it was because they exclusively prioritize to go orders over people in the restaurant.
We were given complimentary spring rolls for the wait, but overall the takeout order priority will probably keep me from going in person anymore.
I would still order to-go.
Good food good service good everything
Food was excellent. Was there with friend for dinner. Both of us said food was great. Prices very fair. Everything available as vegetarian option, love that. Friend had calamari stir fry. Also choice of how spicy. Staff knowledgeable and friendly.
Only downside, decor and ambiance pretty generic. Also not a good place for drinks (alcohol).
Amazing Thai food! Everything comes hot and the portions are huge and totally worth it. Inside it’s clean, modern and a large space. We didn’t have a reservation for a Friday night but were able to get seated right away.

Overall an amazing dinner and I definitely see myself coming back!
Very good Thai food
Best Pad Thai in St Paul
We have been searching for a new Thai place since Supatra's closed AND FINALLY FOUND IT! We tried several menu items and everything was as good as we remembered Supatra's being. Most of the menu - even fried rice - is gluten free or available gluten free. We weren't sure if the St Paul location was open for in person dining based on confusing info online - come on in, it's open and service is quick. We are going home giddy having found our Supatra's replacement and with a feast of leftovers!
What a wonderful place. The red curry was the best I’ve had, and the tom kha was great too.
The atmosphere here is nice and calming as well.
Incredible food!! Highly recommended. Loved the squash curry and ginger stir fry. Fresh spring rolls were phenomenal!!
The 4 of us enjoyed our Thai dishes. We split the fresh spring rolls and the vegetable tempura appetizers. Two of us had red curry, one with shrimp and the other, tofu. A third had chicken pad Thai, and I had basil vegetables with salmon.
You alao might expect: The restaurant interior is fairly plain. The staff tag-teamed with us on apps, drinks, entrées, clearing, and the check. We had to wait a short time for a table without a reservation.
We all truly enjoyed our food.
Very good food, nice clean place!
First time ordering from Coconut Thai on Grand and everything was amazing. The eggrolls were packed with pork and the Thai basil stir fry was full of fresh green beans. Nothing was overly greasy and everything was ready in 10 minutes!
Always good.
Quite possibly the nicest Thai place in the Twin Cities. Simply gorgeous food at good prices. Pretty much a weekly treat for us!
Very good food, large portions. would come again.
Although I am a food snob, this restaurant left me nothing to criticize. My 13y couldn’t stop raving about it. Tried curry puff and masamman curry with tofu. Definitely worth a visit.
Good service and ambiance. Certainly more trendy than authentic in that regard. The food was very flavorful, but a bit too on the salty side. I also was dissatisfied in the spiciness, as I would classify their 5 at more of a 3. If the spice was solved by way of adding a sauce that had the salt, then the saltiness makes a bit more sense.
Overall a nice venue, and I might go back if a friend wanted to, but it's more "minnesota hot" than "thai hot"
My favorite pad thai in Saint Paul, and generous portion sizes
Literally best Thai food - perfectly cooked and seasoned. Came out super fast. Got the pad Thai and the gyoza and both were phenomenal.
The BEST curry I've ever had. And I LOVE curry!
Overall, good portion sizes and fresh flavors. Dishes we ordered included the Tom Kha (w/ Tofu), Seafood Curry, Rama spinach curry with roasted peanut. I did order the Rama spinach curry with Chicken and they gave me Shrimp without asking, so they do lose a star for inattentive service.
We love to come and eat at Coconut Thai, but don’t ever order take out or delivery. One of our favorite dishes is the Masaman Curry. It feeds 3-4 of us usually with leftovers when you eat IN. When you take OUT, they charge you the same and get maybe the leftovers. Such a shame!
Excellent red curry. Will return!
First of all. The service is BAD. We got seated by a person that did not greet us at all. He asked us if we want booth or table. We choose booth. We sat down for a while, didn’t get our water until about 8 minutes later and got our order at the same time. We ordered an appetizer and 2 more items. We received our appetizer not long after, finished it. He took it away and drop off our food. Not once did he come back to check on us to make sure everything was okay or doing good or need more items. My fiancé tipped them more than 20% tip, but it’s for kitchen staff and not the server. Server definitely did not deserve the tip. We will not be returning to this restaurant. Service was very disappointing.
Yum
Absolutely delicious fresh spring rolls and pineapple curry.
Coconut Thai and Nong's in Golden Valley are among the best and most consistent restaurants in the Twin Cities. Cannot recommend them enough for quality food with tons of flavor, fresh ingredients. I hope to be eating here still in 50 years.
Pretty good, im spoiled by my usual thai place but this was a great stand in while i was in Minnesota
Would have liked less oil, more vegetables in the dishes ordered, and the option of more spice. First time there. Liked enough to try again. The noodles in "Drunken Noodles" had great 'chew'.and may have been made in house!!
Super consistent, especially with noodle and curry dishes (my favorites). Everything is super tasty.
Great!
Amazing food.
It was kind of loud and there with all the people
A place I can count on getting a great meal every time.
Incredibly good pad thai, basil fried rice, and spring rolls.
I have a gluten allergy and had no issues with any of the above. They can make the peanut sauce for the spring rolls gluten free, though you need to ask for it to be GF!
One of my fav local Thai restaurants. Come here almost every week, sometimes more. 10/10
This is one of the best thai places we've had similar to a place that used to be in the global market but after covid had changed their flavors and no longer there. We eat their pad thai here often and LOVE it. Service is always great. Never had an issue. Food has been consistent in flavorings and how things are cooked. I would strongly reccomend anyone who wants pad thai to come here!
Surprisingly the inside of the restaurant looks so much nicer than I expected from the outside and is usually never busy (which seems odd to me but Yumi is also like that too).
Got takeout from here - larb, pad Thai, spring rolls and mango sticky rice. It was amazing! Right on time too.
Excellent! Fast and friendly service, food was pretty amazing.
I've been looking for Good Thai since returning to the city, they nailed it!
Really amazing food. I tried pineapple fried rice and caramelized banana coconut ice cream. It was delicious!!! Definitely give it a try!
Food was far better than anticipated they do serve alcohol. The service is slow they bring out the food at their own pace but the pineapple fried rice was definitely worth it.
Masaman curry was 10/10 edamame was super plain but good. Cashew curry delicious. We will be back for sure, thank you!
Food is fine but not set apart from other local restaurants serving Thai cuisine. I was excited about this place given the renown and was looking forward to complex flavors and masterful preparations of classic Thai dishes - I didn't get that. It was pretty average and for each dish we tried, I can think of another place of equal or lesser price that does it better.
Spring roll was mostly lettuce with a few meat crumbles and one shrimp, rice paper was fragile, likely from being over soaked, many dishes had excessive amounts of filler vegetables like bell peppers and cabbage but far overpriced at $13-25, and the tofu was unseasoned and leathery at the edges.
They seem to be understaffed for servers as only one person was waiting tables during peak dinner hour and the wait times were excessive between every visit to our table.
Last complaint is the lighting. There seem to be two different types of overhead lights and the bright, harsh effort lights around the periphery of the room made the tables along the wall pretty unpleasant to sit in for long.
Unfortunately I can't say I'll be back here. With the abundance of Thai food here in St. Paul, competition is high and they didn't make the cut in my book.
The pad Thai was tasty but sort of bland, but the addition of some hot chili oil (which they were happy to provide) made it into an exceptional dish. The egg rolls were good, not great. The service was great. Overall, I would return.
We usually order phad thai and tom kha soup at thai restaurants, and therefore have had many, many versions to sample. Both of these items were well below average at this place. The pad thai noodles had no flavor at all, as if the sauce had been poured over the noodles. And the sauce was odd, lacking fish sauce. No paprika for color. They didnt ask what spice level I wanted, so maybe it could be spiced up a bit.
We ordered chicken tom kha, and it appears that they just take some refrigerated precooked chicken and toss it onto the soup before serving. The chicken was dry and tasteess.
We left most of the food uneaten, a first ever experience.
Another observation is that the room is just an empty box, with no acoustic treatment at all. Pretty hard on the ears.
The pineapple curry is phenomenal
Absolutely delicious Thai food on Grand Avenue in St. Paul!
The fried rice and veggie eggrolls were fantastic!
I really loved the meal I got here.
Delicious! We had the spring rolls (prepared gluten-free), Pad Thai, and the Sweet & Sour Stir Fry. Servings were plentiful. We were a party of 4 and shared the 2 dishes.
Delicious and generous!
Food was fantastic and I love that there are so many vegetarian and vegan options! Service was fast and very friendly. This place is a new family favorite!
