Ahan Thai is under NEW MANAGEMENT as of March 2023! We are a small, family owned and operated restaurant that looks forward to bringing delicious authentic home cooked Thai food from our family to yours. Our menu offers mouthwatering dishes for everyone - with options ranging from traditional Thai favorites to curry, fried rice, and noodle. Diners especially brag about our Pad Thai and Drunken Noodle dishes. Stop by and visit us in the heart of Royal Oak.
Sub par at best. The portion size was decent and temperature was good. I ordered Pad Thai chicken-mild. The flavor wasn't great and the noodles were thicker than what I am used to. I usually leave positive feedback but two stars because it wasn't the worst but definitely not the best. I wouldn't try it again.
Hands down the best drunken noodle I’ve ever had. I saw people mention the portions were small but I ate my whole plate and I almost fell asleep driving home because of how full I was. I usually eat off my girlfriend’s plate after I finish mine but I knew I’d explode. Currently eating the leftovers for lunch at work now. Made me remember to leave a review which I rarely do but this place needs to stay around
Lovely place! Wonderful food! We had the Tom Yum Soup, Pad Pak, and Curry Noodle. We highly recommend it!
Amazing food and service. I can't wait to come back.
Lovely place! Wonderful food! We had the Tom Yum Soup, Pad Pak, and Curry Noodle. We highly recommend it!
Do not order from door dash. They started off really good I ordered them 6 times then my last two times was horrible my rice was soggy, chicken half done, paid for extra shrimp barely had any and I got regular rice when I asked for hot spice I know what I always get and they have gotten lazy just a waste of money
Portion sizes are literally HALF what they used to be. I paid for a full meal, and barely got enough pad sea ewew to fill a small soup cup. It's a shame, because they're one of the only Thai places nearby that serves Tom Kha Gai. I'll just go across the street to Tokyo Sushi and Thai instead, they serve it as well, and don't skimp on the portions!
Edit, now that I've had a chance to take a bite : Also, apparently "hot" means "no spice whatsoever", to the new chef. I may be white, but c'mon...I asked for hot.
Got the C4 with shrimp. Creamy and mild spice. Pretty good food. Fantastic service! Fresh rolls were okay.
I always get the chicken fried rice!!

Delicious. Will be back
Quick service, delicious food, good portions and reasonable price. Can’t ask for more!
Gross chewy beef and undercooked veggies. This is Walmart level thai food
Customer service was extremely well by Kayu. Loved the food as well! The decorations are so well fitted. Although the place looks small, it has a good layout and is spacious. I highly recommend this place! :)
Always a great experience
The food was tasty and the service was great
Great Thai food, fast service and cozy interior. Currently, 15% discount on Tuesday/Thursday after 3pm dine-in and all-day 10% student discount on the other days.

The food along with the customer service is horrible! Won’t be returning!
Ariel is very rude on the phone.while Arthur is inexperienced and clueless. The food is nasty the peppers are undercooked the flavors don’t go together please seasoning your food and clean your shrimp.why does the shrimp tasting like rubber. Instead of trying to fix it they want to say you shouldn’t be upset it’s no big deal. No alterations or arguments. Rather them unsatisfied with the feedback. Honestly nasty food and a nasty attitude is diabolical. Allow whoever cooked a few months ago to come back. The owner should definitely be embarrassed I was told don’t come back because of this By your Manager ARTHUR
Pad Thai with Chicken was delicious! There was a nice amount of chicken, I will definitely return
Nice place great staff
We were both very disappointed. ☹☹ This used to be a good Thai food restaurant. Not anymore. Service is slow.
Prices high. Food poor. Not tasty in thr least.
We will head back to a new Thai place we found where the service and food are excellent! We will not be back here again. 👎👎👎
BTW, take a look at those great food shots--they are from ages ago. The food is not presented well.
This is by far the best Thai around! I won’t go anywhere else anymore. The pad Thai is fresh and the meats so good and fresh!
Friendly staff and great food. Bacon fried rice with garlic flakes was great! I added seared pineapple to sweetened the deal along with extra spicy. It was great
My usual order is a pad pad, hold the rice, extra pad pad veggies with a hot spice level. I liked how big that chunks of eggplant and veggies in general were in my curry. I was very pleased with my first visit to Ahan Thai under the new management. To be clear, I didn't have any issue with the old management necessarily, just noting when my comments were made.
The staff is very professional, friendly, food order come fast, nice and cozy atmosphere. The food we ordered was delicious. Definitely recommend if you are in the area.
This is a very good Thai restaurant in the downtown Royal Oak. Very tasty meals, very good portions, very nice and informative young waitress. The decor is simple and pleasing; it is a very clean place. Prices are also very reasonable. i.e. Everything is very, very very very fine.
Extremely good Thai. We have another go to Thai restaurant decided to try Ahan vegan that before but it is now under New Management. The two dishes we had were very flavorful. Enjoyed it very much.
Placed a group order for a birthday party hosted at Creative Arts Studio down the street from Ahan. Hope was really helpful on the phone and the food was a big hit at the party.
Great food there!
New management. Night and day difference
Great food made with fresh ingredients and cooked to perfection.
I’ve been trying different Thai restaurants in the area looking for the best pad thai and this one is by far my favorite
Great food and great service will be back again!!
Glad they reopened with new managers to try it! We loved our Pad Pak/vegetable curry and crab rangoon! Will definitely be back!
Ordered on door dash, the vegetables were barely cooked and there was no sauce. Worst Thai food I have ever had
They are back open under new ownership. The food is delicious and the owner was super nice.
New ownership - awesome lunch deal for $10.75. Great food and experience. Will come again!
Best Pad Thai I've ever had, including in Thailand. We all really enjoyed our dishes and will definitely return.
Just came under new management and was DELICIOUS. literally made my family drive from Detroit to Royal Oak for it.
This was the best Thai that I’ve had in the metro Detroit area. Fair prices, good service, great food. I got the drunken noodles (hot) with pork and a Thai iced tea. Both were delicious 👍
Right next to a parking ramp so you can park for a free couple hours. Chill atmosphere & the food tastes great! My personal favorites are Curry pad thai and crab rangoons! Will def be coming again
great food!! great staff!! super simple menu which makes it easy and fast to order. love the modern atmosphere. With the awesome new crew running Ahan thai, I can see this restaurant going far. So if you're in the area and love thai food, this is the place to go.
Good food and great services.
Friendly staff and nice atmosphere. Food came out hot fresh and delicious!
Food tasted great. Staff was attentive and owner was super friendly. It's a nice hole in the wall that has been updated to modern time. Plenty of things to do around the area also. Will definitely be back soon.
Quick service, great food and a great place to get your Thai food satisfied. Love the new management! If u haven't tried it, your missing out!
I recently had take out food from here and it was amazing! I had the crispy rolls and the Curry Noodles. I was thoroughly satisfied. Will be coming back again.
Amazing food!
Great atmosphere, food was really good and friendly customer service.
this place is so epic 😎
Great food, good pricing, staff was courteous and attentive, the chef even came out to see how we liked it. Great chill atmosphere. Would definitely reccomend and come back!
Just reopened and had to try it out. Great food and service. We tried a wide array of foods and everything was delicious. The egg rolls and tea were incredible! Will be back!
Extremely good Thai food. I've walked past this place many times and never felt compelled to go in. After having it though, I'm kicking myself for not going in sooner. The food is great and the atmosphere is nice and cozy. Staff is all really pleasant. And the spice is great here. Some Thai places in the area seem to pull punches with their spice if they don't think you can handle it, but this place gives you what you want and that is so refreshing. Will absolutely be back.
Edit Feb 2023: Looks like they will be reopening under new management soon. Looking forward to trying them again. I'll admit the quality dipped there recently, so hopefully the new management saves this place.
Where’s my doordash order. Just avoid this place
Please update your hours of operation if you are not open or able to answer your phone. Thank You
This is probably the best Thai restaurant I've ever had, I'm not sure why it's getting hammered in the ratings.
Horrible, tasteless food. I ordered Pineapple Fried Rice and Red Curry and neither of them had any flavor. On top of that, the pineapple chunks tasted quite old.
Horrible. Just horrible. This restaurant is running a grift.
Both of those stars are for the gentleman at the counter. He was friendly and personable, he really tried to make it all right.
They have tables but you grab your own waters, napkins and plastic ware. Food served on a tray in carry out containers. No plates. But I was offered an empty carry out container. I didn’t feel like adding more plastic and styrofoam to my footprint so I declined.
The Tom Yum soup was broth, tomatoes and 2 mushroom pieces. They were out of the onion and green onion and I guess the cilantro was just missing? It tasted like tangy water and fermented tomatoes. The tomatoes were actually fizzing. I also had to change my order as they were also out of water chestnuts. (Again, insert very pleasant staff member doing his best). I was told the prices of some of these vegetables were making them rethink having them on the menu?
The spring roll had great texture and wasn’t greasy. It also lacked flavor. I think it was just lack of any salt whatsoever (I’m not a big salt person, but it was extremely plain). My food did come out extremely hot (temperature) so that was nice. The rice did taste good, extremely oily though. I think it is precooked/batched, so it probably requires more oil to reheat. My entree was decent. Had it contained the water chestnuts and green onions it would have been better. And a plate to scoop the food out onto and escape the plethora of sauce would have also been helpful.
I wish this place success. I know times are hard. But if the price of water chestnuts and green onions are making you short your guests and affect quality, it is time to rethink something. Using less carry out containers? Reducing entree portions by 25%? Adding $1 to each entree? I’d pay for quality. And my portion was too much food. But unfortunately I do not see the value in returning at this time. It just needs to taste better and be consistent.
Terrible food. Soggy noodles and the chicken tasted rubbery and awful. Me and my fiancé found the food completely inedible. Threw both of our dishes away after a few bites. Pi’s Thai or sunny Thai is a much better option. Do not eat here.
I got horrible food poisoning here 4/2022. I have literally never been that sick. Avoid this place.
This is probably the worst thia I have EVER HAD. The crab ragoon was completely inedible. I ordered the pha thia crab with extra shrimp. They charged me $3 for extra shrimp and LITERALLY GAVE ME 3 SHRIMP. That's $1 a shrimp. I get that stuff is more expensive. But when your paying a good amount of money for a at home dare night and you get poor quality food, it ruins your evening. I will never order from here again. That's $70 bucks down the drain. Save yourself the money and order somewhere else.
Check out their bacon fried rice
Food was delicious, but I've had better.
Chicken pad Thai. About all I eat here, but it's Delicious.
I am not a picky diner, if this was on par with some Lincoln, Nebraska strip mall Chinese food budget take-out I would let it go, but the food at this place is garbage. Though the name literally means "Thai food" it gets everything wrong. Depressingly awful.
Don’t ever order from this place . Rude and terrible food .
Great food, cozy setting.
Alright not very picky when it comes Thai food but was told 10-15 minutes… more like 40. My pad Thai is soupy and the noodles are soggy. I asked the girl how much longer after waiting 30 and she looked at me like a Sphinx who just asked her a riddle. Shin Thai wouldn’t do me like this.
BEST THAI FOOD IN ROYAL OAK!! tried many other thai restaurants in royal oak but no one does it like Ahan Thai! very consistent in great food quality everytime i order! my go-to order is a pad thai shrimp with medium spice and an order of shrimp rolls! to anyone deciding about trying this place out, do it! they won’t disappoint!
This was our regular Thai place. We loved the pad Thai and drunken noodles. Unfortunately one day we ordered and the eggs were clearly rotten. The dishes smelled off and when we ate the eggs, we were so grossed out we took them back to the restaurant. The staff didn’t seem to care or be shocked by this and didn’t offer any assistance with making things right except for a refund. That is fine but we will be taking our business elsewhere. To management: please ensure your staff is checking expirations on eggs and storing them in the correct fridges.
Nice!
I love this restaurant. I had the privilege of spending 5-months in Thailand and this place is spot on. I’m pretty much stuck on the curries. Wonderful! But I do try different dishes sometimes, and I’ve never been disappointed. Everything I’ve eaten from the drunken noodles, to the sweet Thai chili fried rice, is delicious. Always fast, wonderful service. I love that the owner comes out to say hello and check on her customers. I read a complaint about an added gratuity to a group of 6. I’ve seen that on my check at many other restaurants. That’s common for groups of 6 or more. And reading through some of the other reviews I don’t think they’re even talking about this restaurant. One of them talks about making sure you have enough time on the parking meter. Huh? Another one, although a good review, shows a pic of a totally different restaurant. And there’s one with a pic of something that looks kinda like chicken (can’t really tell because the pic is poor quality) and claims it is shrimp. Anyway, this is by far one of the best restaurants in Topeka!
Always a great experience here! I love their pad Thai and drunken noodle. I come at least twice a week and the employees are very kind.
Terrible green peppers tasted old. Worst Thai ever. What happened to this place ??!!
SELF SERVE in house dining at a premium cost.
granted it’s been a couple of years since I’ve come in. But the last time I was here service & food was TOP NOTCH. Today... “meh” —>mediocre at best!
The music was something out of a bad hip hop club where you keep your head on a swivel. I asked for more appropriate dining music in the dining area. She could not muster up any so she turned it off. Then sat down & turned the TV on and louder. So now I feel like I’m at the kids table at grandma’s 🤦🏽♀️
You place your order from menus BADLY taped to the counters. It is difficult to read. No electronic or paper versions offered.
When the food was ready it was put on the counter and said your food is ready” then walked away.
Go get your own water & no dishes, no napkins was offered.
Date night dinner ruined.
I have no words for how I feel right now... wait “simply flabbergasted”. Yup that describes it.
Nope I won’t be back. So unfortunate.
Food was terrible and overpriced. I ordered mild drunken noodles and there was so much pepper I could only eat a couple bites. It honestly looked like the lid fell off the pepper shaker and the just said eff it. The pad thai was bland and the siam crispy rolls were nasty. I'm not a picky eater, this was gross.
Amazing food!!
Slop! The Pad Thai was drenched in sauce. I put it in a strainer and I couldn't get enough of the sauce to drain it was that bad. This used to be a decent Thai restaurant. No more. It is not like I could turn it in because it was delivered to my home.
Delish! I have only tried L15 and L4, but both were great. Easy in/out, or dine in. Food is ready fast too.
Good, not great
Ahan Thai is a terrific restaurant in Royal Oak. Their food is by far the best Thai I have ever had. I would highly recommend giving them a try.
Best pad thai in town .
Very disappointed in here. They have amazing food & have always been one of our favorites. Unfortunately they cant seem to keep their masks on. The last 2 times i was there the girl taking the money repeatedly took her mask off & even went into the back with the food with no mask. They dont sanitize pens or counters between customers. They seem to not have a clear understanding of how the virus is spread.
Ordered peanut curry and they gave a straight peanut butter paste. Besides, the vegetables in it were not even half-cooked. I don’t think I am ever going to order from here. Worst Thai food experience
Crab pad thai no flavor noodles stuck together barely any meat disgusting not authentic food.
Expensive taste terrible
They are not wearing masks!!!!
Confirmed order for 12:15pm at 11:18am. Attempted to deliver food at 2:50pm! I refused to accept the delivery.
Great food, ordered through Postmates and it was still hot and fresh.
Waste of money and waste of time. Shouldn’t be called Thai food because Thai ingredients are not even used. Ordered seafood green curry and it was watered down and had no flavor. The only ingredient used was probably sugar. Bad bad bad!
Didn't Like my food. Probably it was just what I ordered that day, but I would Try something else. Sorry
Delicious soup and wonderful food. Great service
I have eaten here twice before. The food was mediocre. This time I got it and I have never been sicker in my life!!! They have poor food handling practices and I would not recommend this to anybody!!! Stay away!!!🤮
Food was great and the little 17 year girl named vanessa was a great waitress I will be going back thier
Carry out was ready on time, decently priced. However the pad thai had zero flavor, and was watery. Spring rolls were ok.
This has always been my go-to and favorite place nearby for Thai. They’re crab Rangoons are the best. However, I just got carry out with my usual order (crab ragoons and vegetable curry), and it is NOTHING like the normal preparation. The curry sauce was like water, vegetables nearly raw, and the crab ragoons are flat with no filling!
I’m so disappointed :(
Maybe a change in or worship or someone filling in for the cook tonight?
Order through door dash... Gang gai had no rice which makes it pretty much inedible. Portions are small, flavor was meh, and prices high for Thai food. Nothing like ordering carry out because you are too tired to cook, and having to make rice to eat your food. First and last time.
They are extremely rude I ordered the noodles Thai pod and I received plain noodles with nothing done to it, it was not type of seasoning on it they didn’t even add salt I am really disappointed and when I called to talk to them about it the girl was extremely rude and wouldn’t help me resolve my problem. Never again will I order from here😑
Very average tasting spring and fresh rolls. The fresh roll was as fat as a burrito and they were out of cilantro. Still paid full price for some reason. The shrimp spring roll had the shrimp tails fried into it. Weird.
The Pad Thai leave something to be desired... All other food had been great
The food and service are good , the prices are reasonable , my only comment is the value is much better eatting in that carry out .
Delicious! Quick service and authentic food. Be aware, the spice levels are no joke. I love spicy food, and two peppers was perfect. It goes up to five, so you’d better be brave.
Delicious pad thai!
Small however delicious and affordable. I will be back many more times with my nephew and other family. Flavor was so on point
Not an authentic Thai restaurant. I bought one of their coconut red curry, it was full of bell pepper, less chicken and totally waste of money.
Not Recommended
A rather uninspired place with thin sauces lacking richness and undercooked vegetables.
I have NEVER written a review for any restaurant before let alone a bad review (it takes a lot for me to complain) but I was so unbelievably disappointed with my spring rolls that was filled with almost all lettuce and 1 piece of shrimp, I had to say something. I ordered through doordash but still wanted to call the restaurant and see what they would do and say. While talking to the person who made my spring roll, she stated that I must not have read the description of the rolls and offered no compensation. I went back and looked at the photo of the spring rolls they show and mine were not even remotely close to that. ALL LETTUCE. WORST spring rolls I have ever had and terrible costumer service.
Great food
Waitress was very nice and friendly. Food was good and hot. Prompt service. Nice atmosphere.
Great Thai
This place made my friend and I so, so sick.
Don't eat at this place if you like eating food. This contrary to popular belief is not food. It is garbage. Thanks for reading.
Also crab Rangoons have more than just cream cheese in them in case they want to change the recipe in the future.
What a waste of money.
we use to plan on thai from there every time we came to Royal Oak they closed a since they reopened food has been bad, ask for mild its to hot to eat this time found egg shells in my drunken noodles not going back,
This is my go-to place for pad thai. Perfect hangover food.
Amazing food, the portions were out of this world, I loved our waitress, she seemed very happy to work there. I would totally recommend this place, it was amazing.
I ordered from here on door dash and the restaurant called to verify the special instructions for my order and when it arrived it was completely wrong( a dish that cost $17.95 and one that cost$14.45). I called the store to tell them that it was made incorrectly and I was told that my order was difficult anyway. I asked to speak with the manager and was told there was no other manager. The woman on the phone stated she was a manager and stated that she made my food herself. She was very rude I want to make a formal complaint because the customer service is poor.
Will never be ordering from here again. The first time was through Postmates, and they cancelled my order. It was late so no other restaurants were really open. I decided to give it another try eventually - this time there was hair in my food and sauce ALL over the inside of the bags and outside of the boxes (it was carryout). Never going here again.
Good prices for great food. Pretty big servings too!
The scallop pad Thai is delicious. Friendly wait staff
Great place to eat. Love the variety. I get treated like family.
Always incredible food. Staff know my order as soon as I walk in the door.
Ordered via DoorDash. Got FR3. Rice, Veggies and pork. There was absolutely no flavor to it.. besides a fishy one..and let me remind you of the main ingredients...Rice, veggies and pork.. NOT fish.. never ever again.
The spice is good. The food is good. I order the curry noodles as a usual with veggie mix and medium spice. $10.30 is the cost without tip. Make sure the meter for parking has at least 40min. if you are dining in. If it’s take out the service is fast like 10-15 min. fast.
Very good food for a good price.
Had the Tofu Tod Appetizer and it was delicious!
I love this restaurant !
I came here with a friend, and we both got the drunken noodles. There were hairs in both of our dishes, and the noodles were drowning in the overly sweet sauce. The waitress smelled like she hadn't showered in days. I was charged almost 7 bucks for a fresh roll cut in half.
Nice food. This is the first time I had been to a dine in restaurant in Royal oak downtown. Loved the experience and food. Really good Thai food. Almost everyone in our group had a similar opinion. The ambience of the restaurant was good. The food is bit on the spicy side. Medium spicy was a bit high for me even though I am used to spicier food.
Fresh rolls are excellent. Thai prepared the way you want. Slightly elevated compared to many in town.
Best Thai place around!! Just heard it closed though. That's a shame.
Decent food but a bit on the salty side. Specially the fried rice
Pad Thai is AMAZING here. Thank you.
I'll let you decide if you want to go here after this review.
I ordered food from there tonight. They delivered my order wrong (was a small, simple order). They gave me shrimp instead of chicken. I'm allergic to shrimp so lucky I caught it. I called back and complained and she sounded less than sympathetic. A few minutes went by and she called me back accusing me of lying. She said the cooks said they were out of shrimp. Interesting. See my attached image of the shrimp. So after I offered to drive up there and show her she said no and she would refund my $12 (only half my meal). I explained to her that if she would have refunded my order being the inconvenience she caused and rudeness she displayed, I would have probably came back and tried it again. She responded with something to the tune of "people like you aren't welcome there". Literally. I was shocked.
So because I'm also fair I'll leave an honest review on what my wife ate. She said it was "meh" at best. Pad Thai was borderline nasty but she was starving. Other area places are better. I didn't eat any of the food so I can't personally comment on it.
Good Thai restaurant... if I don't feel going far for lunch or dinner, I'll come here.
Wonderful food. Reasonable prices. Great service.
