Haven’t enjoyed some of the pad Thai I’ve had in Boston, but this was good. Had a lot of chicken in it and was a good portion size.

Diner Review №2

Diner Review №3

Lovely atmosphere. Khao Soi was good but the chicken slices are too big. Pad Thai was okay, could’ve had more crushed peanuts.

Diner Review №4

The food here is so fresh. I absolutely LOVE their salmon salad.

Diner Review №5

I've been coming here off and on since I was a student at Boston University. Brown Sugar has a great menu, good prices and has remained very consistent with the quality and taste. Highly recommended!

LOVE THE PINEAPPLE FRIED RICE AND THAI ICED COFFEE!!

Diner Review №11

The guy behind the counter keeps on scratching his head and getting skin flakes/dandruff everywhere. Very unsanitary not to mention disgusting to look at.

Diner Review №12

Diner Review №13

One of THE BEST Thai spots in Boston

Diner Review №14

Very delicious foods.

Diner Review №15

Tasty Thai food! You can’t go wrong when you eat here. They also tell you what to expect when you order- like they told me I was going to get half of a chicken which I appreciated.

Diner Review №16

Our B U student took us there for dinner. My drunkin noddles was very tasty and spicy just the was I like it. It could have had more noddles but the veggies were better for me. Service was good. Would go back again

Diner Review №17

I came here with a group of friends for dinner during a birthday. Visited again for a birthday two years later in 2024!

Diner Review №18

We have been eating here for a decade or more. So good, the larb and num tok dishes are real standouts. So spicy and fresh and herbaceous, really delicious! My husband loves the crispy pad Thai.

Diner Review №23

Food is top notch my girl is eating food in the Coconut so that's amazing to me

Diner Review №24

Got the apps combo platter.

Spring roll - pretty damn good. A-Tier.
Coz shrimp - pretty good. A-Tier.
Vegetable spring roll - didn't like it. Not terrible though. D-Tier.
Tofu - Meh. D-Tier.
Crab Rangoon - Damn thats one of the best Crab rangoons I've ever had. A+-Tier.
Golden Triangle - Feels like this was just a worse version of a vegetable samosa. Also has a noticeable mint taste (as opposed to a subtle mint taste) D-tier.
Chicken Satay - Okay, but feel like competitors do it better. C-tier.
Beef Satay - solid. C+-Tier.
Spareribs - solid. B- Tier.

Diner Review №25

Great Thai curry, I had the vegetarian one with tofu. Flavors on point, good portion for $14. Service was also good, and plenty of tables in their restaurant.

Diner Review №26

Diner Review №27

I tried the vegetable country style pad thai (actually spicy, like advertised!) and crab rangoon, and I was very satisfied. What really blew me away was the wonderful customer service. When the delivery driver forgot to pick up my thai iced tea from the restaurant, the restaurant reimbursed me and a staff member personally delivered the drink to my apartment. I could not have been more impressed. Great experience.

Diner Review №28

This place is exquisite. From the minute you walk in, the place is draped in elegance. Before you even walk in the door, you are greeted with the beautiful perfume of intelligently selected flowers. The entrance way and the decor are brilliantly chosen and the atmosphere makes you feel welcomed and peaceful. I assumed this was a coffee only place, but I was pleasantly surprised to see the full menu of Thai cuisine as well as uniquely crafted Cafe style drinks. The dishes and drinks on the menu are delicious beyond expectations, so don't be aftaid to order something new as you'll likely be blown away by presentation and flavor. The service was perfection. This is a beautiful spot to dine in, grab a coffee or get take out. I highly recommend it! Thank you for lunch, Brown sugar Café, you're the best and my new favorite! 🌸

Diner Review №29

Very good restaurant I frequent when I’m in town and looking for Thai food. Beyond the usual fare, they give some nice surprises, like this beautiful presentation of Brown Sugar Hawaiian Fried Rice (pictured, on left), along with what’s left of the Mango Curry, the taste of which we all loved.

We ordered 12 meals to go after the BU graduation ceremony. The appetizers and the food was unbelievable. Excellent cuisine and service.

I recommend the Thai Spring Rolls, Satay Chicken, Tod Mun, Brown Sugar Spareribs (get two of these!),
Soft Shell Tempura, and the Scallion Pancakes.

Try the Brown Sugar Salad, it is super refreshing. Careful with the green papaya salad! It's spicy.

Pretty much all our entrees were delicious. But you have to try the Rama duck. It is very good.

Diner Review №34

Badly behaved service providers, ignore ordered items and forcefully demand high TIPS.

Diner Review №35

Diner Review №36

Ordered 3 items, they didn't provide 3rd item, even didn't attend in between rather ignored us. Surprisingly, at last they billed for the item they didn't not serve, when we mentioned that they have no regrets on that rather demanding at least 18% as tips even if we are not happy with the service. Our previous experience was better but this time has crossed all the limits of bad services. Not recommended at all.

Diner Review №38

Staff were so friendly/helpful! Great food great atmosphere great everything

Diner Review №39

Very nice Thai restaurant. Central location on a main street (hard to find parking). Pleasant interiors and atmosphere, authentic and fresh food in generous portions. Great service, reasonable prices. Very good experience 👌

Diner Review №40

This has to be the best Thai restaurant in Allston. I absolutely love their crispy pad Thai with chicken.
Everything I get here I love. I have never got a bad dish here.
The food comes out so fast too. My boyfriend and I sat down ordered and within. 15 minutes our food was at our table.
It's like magic. And I must know how they do it.
The atmosphere is so cool!
They have a cute collection of butterflies on the walls and a lot of different items as well.
11/10 recommend going to this place!

Diner Review №41

Diner Review №42

Curry tasted great and the shrimp dish was also amazing. The spring rolls however were a little disappointing. Stuffing could have been more generous.

Diner Review №43

Diner Review №44

Clearly not the same restaurant as 10 years ago when it was getting rave reviews

Diner Review №45

The vibes are so good in here, super clean and the decor is rlly cool! I got the babe ribs and the meat was SO JUICY AND TENDER a bit spicy for me but just right… get with rice and you will def have leftovers. Thai tea was good too and the fresh spring rolls were super yummy. Everyone is very friendly and it was v good

The food is great, the atmosphere is very peaceful

Diner Review №50

The server was very friendly and knowledgeable. She answered all our questions.

Diner Review №51

The food is pretty good here. It won't be the best food you get in the city but it's definitely high quality. The staff are great and were very nice and pleasant.

Diner Review №52

The curries are delicious. Very flavorful.

Diner Review №53

Fast service, order and your food is out in 7 minutes. Beer list is mostly name brands and no craft beer. Went in without a reservation and we were seated right away on a Saturday evening.

Diner Review №54

Always great food and service

Diner Review №55

Legendary food. After Similans closed, this place is the only place to go to get the best Thai food in The Boston area. Cannot recommend high enough, it's just great food, atmosphere, and service all around, no faults

Diner Review №56

The food was decent. I left a tip and the lady didn't count correctly and then she followed me out to say I tipped her less. I told her no count properly. And then she said.

Diner Review №57

Honestly the best food I've ever had, the crispy rolls are made fresh in house or a least taste like it. 10/10 would recommend the fried ice cream

Diner Review №58

Excellent Thai food. There is a supplemental menu at the back that's mostly in Thai that I have not yet been brave enough to order from.

Medium spicy makes my eyes water but is flavorful and not just hot

Diner Review №59

Diner Review №60

Very good Thai food, very reasonably priced, and good value given their proportion size. Decor and atmosphere were above average, the place looked good and clean, nothing extremely special. Service was alright, servers did not really greet us or anything, it was very functional and efficient, which was fine, the job was done, just nothing exceptional. One thing about the service that did stick out was that the food was spicy, and we complained about it, originally we were met with a little bit of opposition, but they eventually made up for it giving the friend a sweet drink. Overall, I would come back, and give it a good reccomendation.

Diner Review №61

Diner Review №62

Delicious and great staff!

Diner Review №63

Beautiful atmosphere

Diner Review №64

Great pad thai, the tanginess hit the spot
Not to great fried rice

Service: Attentive staff
Food wait time: pretty fast
Food amount: reasonable

Diner Review №65

This is a great Thai spot in the neighborhood. The tom yum soup is EXCELLENT. The fresh rolls and shumai are very good. The pad thai is GOOD but not at all mindblowing. They have a long list of unique desserts that are worth trying. Service is excellent.

Diner Review №66

Absolutely loved the Brown Sugar Mango Fried Rice! Food was all around great and the service was kind and helpful. Many options from a range of prices, from a couple dollars to around twenty five.

Diner Review №67

the sweetest, most consistently reliable staff. they ran out and walked a block to catch up with me after i left to tell me i forgot my bag. queens !!!

Diner Review №68

Diner Review №69

Diner Review №70

My family and I frequented Brown Sugar when they started in the Fenway. As far as I know, they have 2 other locations now. I am not too keene on their Brookline location, but I waa at the Allston location this time, and it was great! Loved the food, the atmosphere was great, even kid/family friendly. My daughter is vegan/pescatarian and they had loads of options for her. She absolutely loved it.

Diner Review №71

They have the best Thai Food Anywhere!!! Drunken Noodles & Siamese Twins are out of this world....

Diner Review №72

We came to the place about 1.5 years ago and had a pleasant experience. We decided to come back today and sadly the food was unedible and pricey. Tamarind Duck had a very gamey taste and ended up returning it. We then ordered the Pad Thai and it was just SAD. Veggies didn't seem fresh. We rarely give a review like this, it was just a bad experience overall unfortunately. Not planning to go back.

Diner Review №73

Diner Review №74

Food is decent and atmosphere is relaxed. We liked the brown sugar duck and drunken noodles but did not like the Tom yum soup. A good place to meet with friends.

Diner Review №75

This has been consistently the best Thai restaurant in Boston for over a decade, imho. Food is good, atmosphere is classy, wait staff are great. I make a pilgrimage here every time I am in town.

Diner Review №76

Diner Review №77

Found brown sugar cafe after Similans closed. I go there at least once a week for their chicken pad Thai noodles, it’s the best you’ll ever have!! So tasty and delicious

Diner Review №78

This Thai Restaurant was amazing! The quaint ambiance, food, service and location were excellent. We made a reservation for 4 right before a 7:30 pm show at the Agannis Arena and it was a perfect addition to our evening. I highly recommend this cute little restaurant.

Diner Review №79

Every time I come to Brown Sugar cafe the food is fresh and the service is prompt! The dressing and chicken on their Brown Sugar Salad is to die for, and every curry I have tried has been delicious! I highly recommend this restaurant for a casual sit down meal. They also seem to accommodate large groups very well.

Diner Review №80

We were gladly surprised with this restaurant because it wasn’t our first option and we were walking by the street. First we ordered Shumai (5pieces) as entrée. Next we ordered the main dishes. My husband ordered Siamese twins (if you don’t like spicy don’t order this), it was served in a half pineapple. I chose BBQ Seafood which it was a generous portion and a selected variety of seafood. Both dishes were very well presented and cooked. The taste was very flavorful and delicious. The price is good for the quality of the food. We are sure we will come back.

I’ve eaten here a few times and tried a variety of their dishes but have never left saying WOW that was so good.

Diner Review №88

Diner Review №89

Diner Review №90

Used to get Drunken Noodle from here by Uber Eats. The best Drunken Noodle ever had.
Recently visited with colleagues after realizing that Similans was closed (we used to go there - Best Thai Food in Cambridge!!) Surprised that Brown Sugar is run by the same people as Similans. Found the same menu here. Absolutely love the Shrimp Scampi and Fisherman's Madness. Huge proportions for reasonable price.
Thought we would miss Similans, but Brown Sugar has got our back!
Will be back for the Shrimp Scampi!

THE BEST THAI FOOD in Boston!

Diner Review №91

Just love this place.

Diner Review №92

Diner Review №93

Great place. Authentic Thai food.
Birthday party has special music, light, and cake to celebrate.

Stuffed wings 4/5
Taste great with sweet chili sauce. Crispy chicken outing with stuffed inside. Without sauce it’s a bit dry

Tom yum gong soup 5/5
Super good. Authentic flavor

Khao Moo Dang 5/5
So good. Authentic flavor. Huge amount

Khao Kah Moo 3/5
Soft pork but no strong flavor. Sauce is sour spicy which I’m not a fan. I asked for sweet chili sauce for dipping.

Diner Review №94

Good Thai place. Loved the entrance and the interiors. Gives authentic Thai vibe. The hostess was very friendly and kept checking on us periodically. Service was quick and lot of menu on the items to choose from.
We ordered Thai ice tea, chicken satay, crab Rangoon, brown sugar mango rice, Salmon Sui sui curry.
Food tasted good overall. Salmon in the curry could have been softer. Almond in the mango rice could have been avoided. Although, I think these are not a big concern.

Diner Review №95

Best Thai food in Boston! The authenticity of the dishes is presented well with its impeccable flavors and aroma. Would come back again!

Diner Review №96

Diner Review №97

Diner Review №100

Diner Review №101

The food is always great as is service. Perhaps looking a bit shabby and in need of a decluttering and deep clean, from a design point of view

Diner Review №102

I came across Brown Sugar when I checked if Similan’s in Cambridge is still open. Basically their menu’s the same, and the food is also good!

I love the Crispy Catfish (more like a salad) and would have it with a side of plain white rice.

The crispy pork with chili and basil rice plate is also worth it. The pork is perfectly crispy and had no “smell”. I do recommend ordering mild as it could be really spicy.

Definitely will be back!

Diner Review №103

Brown Sugar used to be great. It’s now dirty, not tasty and the service is awful. Our food came cold and the portions were very small. Chicken was stringy and literally everything we ordered was pre-prepared and semi heated before being served. That’s just totally disappointing and unacceptable for a supposed top quality place. I appreciate the prices were very moderate, but re-heated food is just not why people go out to eat. D minus at best.

Diner Review №104

Long time favourite of our family. Large menu.

Diner Review №111

Just visiting Boston for the first time. This place was so delicious! My massaman curry had a unique flavor and spectacular. The service was just as wonderful. The atmosphere was cozy yet beautiful.

Diner Review №112

Classy place. Good food. But so you know, rice isn’t free and they’ll charge you for it and you won’t even know til you get the bill.

Diner Review №113

One of the best meals of my entire life.

Thank you for this delicious food.

Diner Review №114

Diner Review №115

They did was tasty what I could have as a plant-based person. I had veggie tempura and it was nice and crispy. I thought maybe there would be more options. The place was jam packed with people so it's cute inside but a little claustrophobic. Service was good but with all those people they were very busy and all over the place. We got our order very quickly though which was nice. The price of everything did surprise me, it's in the higher end and I was not expecting the sort of "fanciness" for the food and location.

Diner Review №123

Diner Review №124

The old asian server lady was very rude to us starting from when we sat down. She kept clearing the plates even when we have not finished them. When we told her we were still working on finishing the dish, she gave us attitude. The whole time it felt like she was rushing us out (the place was kind of empty on a Sunday!) When we only tipped 10% because of the rudeness, the servers keep confronting us and would not let us leave, we had to run out. A very frustrating experience.

Food was ok quality, nothing special. Would never go back because of the terrible attitude though.

Diner Review №128

A great Thai restaurant to go to in Boston! The Pad Kra Pao is amazing and if you ask for spicy, they’ll give you spicy! The Kao-Soi is a little too sweet for me but it still tastes amazing! The chefs and servers here are also all Thai :D I’m from Thailand and I definitely would recommend!!!

Diner Review №129

Diner Review №136

Diner Review №137

Great food and service

Diner Review №138

Brown Sugar Cafe is my favorite Thai restaurant. The food and service are always impeccable. My favorite lunch order was the chili duck rice plate with the lunch special of the side salad and chicken spring roll. I would ask the server to omit the onions. For dinner, there was a pork dish on the Thai special menu -- last item on the pork dishes page, that I liked, but didn't know how to pronounce. Brown Sugar is beautiful inside with high ceilings and pretty decorations. The ribs appetizer is addictingly good. The Thai iced coffee and Thai iced tea are both wonderful, and I ask for little ice.

Diner Review №139

Diner Review №140

My favorite Thai place in all of Boston. The menu is huge so I try to mix it up every time I go. I've never been disappointed here, its always amazing. If you're there celebrating your B-Day let them know! They have an awesome celebration.

Diner Review №141

Easily one of the best restaurants in Massachusetts and I've been to them all, name it I've been. Beautiful Thailand aesthetics inside, comfy and great food, easy on the wallet comparitively as well.

Diner Review №142

Good pad thai. Disappointing pineapple seafood fried rice. No condiments available.

Diner Review №143

Some of the best pad see ew I’ve ever had!! I’ve been dreaming about coming back to order it again as soon as I can. This is one of the best thai food restaurants in the Allston area. Wonderful, well-priced, and fast service.

Diner Review №144

Chicken was over-cooked and tasted tough! They also heard patrons on top of one another and prices are high

Diner Review №145

DO NOT VISIT THIS PLACE

the ordered noodles & rice and it was too sweet felt like they added lots of sugar. Also the co-owner was racist & served us with attitude, we tipped 5$ then she came back saying “is there a problem?” We were confused at first but then she was like you need to tip at least 7$ or stay at home😹 we then headed out without giving her any tip. It was an experience that i hope will never go through again.. we definitely don’t recommend this place at all

Diner Review №150

Good food and service. Came with a party of 5. We likely would have tipped well, as this is a function of the quality of meal and service. So far so good.

They added a 19% auto-gratuity to the bill which was not pre-communicated, and marked the table as 6 people to justify it, and refused to acknowledge any questions or reasoning otherwise. Reading the other reviews, it seems hostile and gaslighting behavior is common practice at the restaurant. To the owners, I suggest if you want more money, just raise your prices rather than blatantly lie to your customers. It’s not a good look. Would definitely not recommend or go back.

Diner Review №151

I come here quite often. Today I ordered my regular and tipped within my budget; the server (old asian lady) told me I should pay at least 15% and shouldn't go out if I don't have enough money.

I'm very disappointed, and will never come back again. This is rude and unacceptable.

Diner Review №152

When I came here with my white friend the old short Asian lady was very nice and polite. When I came again alone, she wasn't as welcoming and just wanted me to rush out. Today I went with my very Arab family and she was nothing but rude and annoyed. She literary asked us to not come again and order online.

I can't help but feel like race is in play here. The lady is resist.

Diner Review №153

Delicious food! The spring rolls were very fresh and the Na-tang was very flavorful as well.

Diner Review №154

This is the best Thai food in Boston, period. Comparing Brown Sugar to other Thai restaurants is like comparing Mike Tyson to a backyard wrestler. The menu is so vast that you can eat here for years and never get bored. I would suggest the Hawaiian fried rice, the soft shell crab Pad Thai or the Chili Duck for basic good stuff. I've been impressed with all their soups and the larb dishes. The grapow noodles will send you to the afterlife. If you like spicy, this is the place for spicy. Eat here three meals per day for the rest of your life.

Diner Review №155

Diner Review №156

This place was hopping on a Saturday night! Food was excellent. I had the bbq ribs and they were literally falling off the bone. They were well seasoned. The Brown Sugar Fresh rolls lived up to the name and the sauce was sweet and spicy without setting my mouth on fire. Go you'll love it

June 2022
This is my new favorite place! Servers are friendly and helpful. Indoor and outdoor seating. I got the appetizer sampler and fried bananas with coconut ice cream. For my traditional apps and dessert. Very yummy.

Diner Review №157

I got take out. Surprised by the smaller portions at a larger price and not as good as I remember it being.

Diner Review №158

Nice food with decent spice. Sometime Thai food can be a little bit more sweet than expected. However, this restaurant knows the balance well for some dishes. Liked there hospitality as well.

Totally underwhelmed with this place. I went in there after the great reviews but i did not love the food.

The crispy pad thai was too sour. The quantity of the spring rolls was limited. The basil fried rice was the only decent dish.

Diner Review №176

Excellent Thai food with a menu so extensive it’s reminiscent of The Cheesecake Factory. Scallion pancakes were hot and tasty and my salmon curry with veggies was great. Very generous on the salmon. Service was excellent. Never ran out of water, which is important when you order extra spicy. Will definitely be back.

Diner Review №177

Very seafood centric, everything we tried was fabulous. They only have beer and wine, no bar.

Diner Review №178

Order took 5 minutes to prepare which is only ok if the food is actually decent. This tough grey-hued “meat” is supposedly beef? For 16 dollars??

Diner Review №179

First time ordering from this restaurant earlier today for lunch. Ordered duck with vegetables. Duck meat tasted like it was cooked a week ago. Just tasted old. Vegetables looked and tasted like they had been marinating for a few days. Sauce was very watery. I was so disappointed, couldn’t take food back because of work. I Will never buy from them again. 😟

Diner Review №180

The service was very bad, and the waitress was very rude, she forced us to pay extra tips and told us not to come back to dine in if we cannot afford to pay the tips that was demanded from us.

Diner Review №181

This is Drunken Noodle... and this is Tomato, somehow it got in here. This is not good at all, and I am allergic to tomatoes. There is only one piece, how can one mistake be made. Smh I am very disappointed

Diner Review №182

Yummy yummy authentic taste of Thailand cuisines

Diner Review №183

I had a hair in my dish which is so disgusting.

Diner Review №184

Diner Review №185

Outstanding.

Diner Review №190

These folks are super vigilant about COVID-19-prevention (but wouldn't it make sense for everyone to stay home instead?), e.g., requiring everyone who walks in to use hand sanitizer and wear masks until actually taking a bite of food. The flip side is that they don't have energy left to refill water glasses, remember to cook and serve dishes that are ordered, etc. (We ended up with 2 out of 3 entrees.)

Worst experience ever! Got a metal wire in my chicken satay. When called the manager, she seemed very casual about it & said would have caught the chicken or the wooden stick while cleaning. I didn’t understand the reference. I’m pregnant & thankful for not swallowing the metal wire. Service was really bad & so was the food, no flavor!
